Reasonably priced pub grub, 6 of us dined after hospital visits. Varied selection of meals to choose from, my own fault choosing rump steak as not my favourite cut of meat, it was ok but .. nobody had any reason to complain and drinks were decent price too. Extensive work has been carried out on beer garden since Covid. There are plenty of seating options and what appears to be an outdoor bottle bar near the entrance. Don’t forget to claim your refund on parking if that is your mode of transportation 👍

Had the Sizzler but unfortunately rather than sizzling it was charcoal! Edit: originally gave a one star, however I was contacted by the manager after and offered free meals for me and my partner. The manager went out of his way to make everything perfect on our second visit and the food was lovely. We will definitely be returning.

Called in for some lunch, polite attentive staff & manager, we ordered the sunday best burgers x 2 & 2 lemonades paid £29 which is pretty fair, waited a little while for the food but there are plenty of TVs on to watch while you wait, roasts were lovely & it would have been perfect if there was a little pot of gravy to go with it as a bit on the dry side without, will definitely return 👍

I visited Cumberland and all staff very attentive. Leighton served us our food and couldn’t do enough for us, always ensured we had drinks on our table. Very polite lovely girl a credit to the pub 100%. Food was nice will definitely return.

Myself and my husband had the candy mania to share. We were shocked when it was just plonked in front of us still in the tub with just a couple of blobs of cream on the top. We eat with our eyes first and foremost and would have loved to have had it in a glass like we used to. Presentation is key as it looks like some effort has been put into it. Please bring back the glasses.

The Cumberland has always been a really nice place to eat, today was no different. After running on a few hours sleep I came in for parking and to exchange my ticket for food and the staff were really helpful with my 27 different swaps and alterations to my meal. It was a great place to be able to relax and chill for half an hour after a stressful evening/night.

Very nice food but not worth the hassle. Your charged 3-4 pounds on monday-saturday due to the local hospital,you can get the money off the meal supposedly. Accessibility is mediocre. Not many disabled bays,if your bigger then a car I would suggest avoiding it completely. It's very small inside with tables and feels somewhat cramped I'd say it appears more to be somewhere to drink then eat a meal as that's what most were doing.

First time in The Cumberland was served by Kenny & Karen & chef Banging staff up for some banter, i had the Jerk chicken & Ribs absolute banging meal, My partner had the chicken New Yorker which she enjoyed the kids had the Crown of Burgers, and the 8 oz steak all the plates went back empty, made us feel very welcome and at home we just found our new local unlike some other local pubs looking forward to our next visit

The place looks really nice after the refurb but more importantly, the food and service are great. The staff are friendly and helpful and unlike any pub chef I've personally ever come across, James can actually cook a steak the way you order it. Brilliant atmosphere in here, there is a good outside seating area, well away from the road so the kids can run round to their hearts content. Lot's of people where eating inside, so I assume the food is good, for some they want you to pay for drinks before they are served to you, I wanted a hot drink but the machine wasn't working, I was given a refund and the offer off another drink.

Recently refurbished, it's a spacious and inviting atmosphere, with a good range of drinks and a great food menu. Also TV's for the live sport, and a great outdoor area which will be perfect in the summer. The food menu was awesome, but was a little disappointed with the food itself (both the wait and quality) but to be fair to the venue, they were very busy because of the football, so I will definitely go again when less busy to try some of the great food choices. Peroni on draught too, always a winner in summer for me. Worth the visit

The food and the service is excellent. However, don't pay for the parking using your credit card as you will not be able to claim the money towards your food and drink bill. I had paid using PaybyPhone, therfore, I did not have the receipt to display in my car. My parking confirmation was sent to my phone. Couple weeks later, I have received a Parking Charge Notice for £100!!! Thankfully, I still have my receipt on my phone but it has taken up my time, and effort just to appeal. NOT HAPPY! I know it is not the fault of the restaurant, but they should made clear that: 1) if paying for parking by credit card, there will be no paper receipt for you to use the receipt as part partment for your restaurant bill. 2) they may issue you a PCN if paying by card !

I can’t comment on the food or the ale, we just needed the car park for the hospital in all honesty. But our car wouldn’t start when we went to set off, which is always a stressful situation, nevermind the hospital visit but we needed help, so we went into the Cumberland. On first going inside, we were well greeted and felt welcomed and when they realised we were distressed they were very helpful and even came out to us and help us to get the car started. They waived our parking and the AA man’s parking and we’re generally extremely helpful and warming. I can safely say we will be parking here again, next time for food and a drink. Thankyou so much Cumberland staff!

Beautiful historic building, good food and very friendly and helpful staff. It was once a farm and the Duke of Cumberland paused here on his way to fight the Young Pretender. There used to be a portrait of the 'old villain' Duke hanging in the main bar, but this has now vanished, and has been replaced by a large photograph of Jeremy Clarkson!

Think the refurb is beautiful and the atmosphere is great. Staff are always polite and accommodating. I would say I was disappointed by a group that “booked a table” complaining to staff because they didn’t have the right table size for the group even though they don’t do a table to fit that many. The staff moved the tables to accommodate them and still they moaned. I look forward to coming back soon

My wife and myself were invited to a pre-opening evening following a well needed makeover, and I can honestly say it’s the best the pub’s looked in the fifty years I have frequented the place. The layout and decor make the pub look warm and inviting, and combined with the decent food and excellent service provide by the cheerful and efficient staff, it made for a really pleasant evening all round. There’s still quite a bit of work to do in the outside areas, but when completed, I have no doubt that ‘The Cumberland’ will feature as one of the best pubs in South Yorkshire.

Food was good value for money and was clean and tidy. Thought they were short staffed with just 1 person behind the bar. The lady who was serving was a polite lady called Karen who was working alone from behind the bar, she got some abuse from an impatient guy who was waiting for a Guinness, he was extremely rude and even threatened to get her into trouble by telling Jamie (guess he's the manager). She was very calm and polite and dealt with it well. Hopefully the manager will be a good guy and back his staff and put this unruly customer in his place. Probably needed more team as they were stretched but the staff were very friendly, will be back when I visit Doncaster again.

This place is, like a typical Hungry Horse, good for big plates of simple food at reasonable prices. Our food was fresh and tasty and the service was quick and polite so nothing to complain about there. There is also plenty of atmosphere in the bar where beer and football is available for anyone that wants them. The big negative is the on-site parking. The parking machines are often not working or restricted to cash only payments and who carries cash these days? That means you have to use an app to pay for parking and then can't reclaim the cost in the bar. The situation is poor at best and needs to be managed much better in my opinion.

Me and the Wife went this morning before my Doncaster Royal Infirmary Hospital appointment. We was met by the friendly Manager. Ordered two bacon sandwiches and cappuccinos. The bacon was griddle fried on slices of bloomer bread, with side of butter. Fantastic and filled us both up for the day. The cappuccinos was a treat. We would both say visit the Cumberland, outside of appointments. Menue for other food looked tasty. We will visit for a meal.

Hi. The welcome was great. The waitress however needs a little more training because although she was polite and friendly aftera 15 minute wait to order she asked what drinks we wanted. We said 1gin and tonic and 1 tonic water, she arrived with 1 gin in a glass and 2 bottles of water, no 2nd glass. Our meals arrived promptly but the garlic bread was microwaved beyond saving and the salad with a steak topper arrive minus the steak and side order of garlic bread. Both were rectified and the meal, eventually was lovely. It was my sister's birthday and the 1st meal out she'd had since the 1st lockdown.

First day of reopening when I visited. Quiet at first but then started to get busy. They need to be stricter at enforcing not leaving table. A few were wandering around with no mask. Had to order at table but no help was offered with using their app. Meal OK. Venue not terribly warm when we arrived as we arrived in heavy downpour of rain. Might return at a later date.

It was my first time in a pub since the first lockdown, so it's been awhile. I decided as Euro Cup was on it would give me a chance to catch up with friends I not seen socially for awhile. We were glad to be able to book a table a week before, and when we arrived early we were guided to our table which was in a corner with it's own tv. The staff were friendly and explained all orders were made and paid using an app, which helped us see all choices of drinks and food, and any offers clearly available. Treated myself to a quadzilla burger as it was a two for one on burgers, so my friend had the same. It was definitely a gut buster and I wish I had saved the uneaten burger for my dog, it was that big. I got to see my team draw, tried some new flavoured cider and catch up with friends in a very safe and friendly environment with kind staff. Thanks Cumberland for welcoming back to society after a trying year of silence.

Has been hit and miss in the past but my last visit I was pleasantly surprised. Food came out as ordered, was hot and quite tasty. The faint smell of wee in the back seems to have gone which is a huge bonus. They have a wide variety of drinks and the food is well priced with a different deal on every day

The staff here are really friendly and nice, the food here is amazing. As someone who's gluten free there's not a whole lot of choice but you do have a couple of options. The atmosphere is nice inside, lovely furnishings and decorations. Only downside was it's always heaving and when you do find an empty table it's very sticky. Otherwise lovely pub 😊

Food is great, always a good bar service and friendly floor staff. Fairly priced menu in comparison to the portion size. Will continue to eat here again in future. Never had to wait long for food to arrive after ordering. Over all clean pub inside and outside in the beer garden. Toilets have always been clean. Puddings are really good. Slightly smaller pub would consider booking a table in advance. Have to pay to park but parking will be knocked off your bill at the bar is you give them your ticket.

Always nice food when you finally get served. A good idea queueing system so everyone gets their turn without anyone pushing in. BUT, there's not enough staff to get the queue down quick enough. I was stood beyond the outside door and it took 25 minutes to put my order in. I work in catering and feel it's unacceptable waiting time,then of course you have to wait for your food. It's difficult to predict how busy it's going to be,but it seems like that majority of the time. Hassle management for more staff, I'm sure the turnover and profit margin could accommodate.

Table hadn't been cleared, so we just pushed everything to edge until someone took it away. Ordered from the 2 for £8.99 options on the menu. The lasagne was smaller than the individual dish it came in, burnt around edges, sauce splattered everywhere and the garlic bread was a funny colour and quite hard. Didn't complain as you get what you pay for and have no plans to go back. Ideal place if you just want somewhere cheap to eat though.

Hmmm, seems to of gone down hill recently, we've had some great meals here but we went a few days ago and it was nothing special, the burgers were very very dry as if they had warmed up the day before leftovers, the steak was also very dry, I got 4 chicken wings instead of 5 but upon complaining they did bring me one more. Something has changed as it has been nice before. Oh well, looks like I'll have to find elsewhere.

Prices aren't too bad. Food is nice. I eat gluten free so i tend to stick to their chicken Korma. Not much gluten free food on the menu though. Staff could smile a bit more, i dont find them overly friendly. I know they get busy, but still. Alright in the day but in the evenings there tends to be people in there arguin fighting or smashing a glass. Could really do with bouncers on the door. And the toilets need to be kept up with the maintenance i.e. theres always things that are broken that don't seem to get fixed or they are dirty. However i do like its location as it is only a 5 minute walk for me so if i cant be bothered to cook i just pop over the road with the kids. The outside area is nice too and in the day i never feel threatened. Hospital is over the road from it which can be nice for the patients or/and their family.

I have been in since a few times and whilst the food is nearly always good you appear to let yourselves down with not having enough wine glasses, I assume there is a large number of thefts. Sat here now having ordered the double cheeseburger with fries and coleslaw. Fries are nice - they have a nice, crispy coating. Coleslaw is fine. The double cheeseburger is overcooked and has absolutely no flavour. Also, it might be double burger but it only has a tired looking slice of cheese that looks like it landed there by accident. The server must have been having a REALLY bad day too as she was miserable as sin!

Wonderful pleasant staff when I got to the Cumberland I paid £7 for a parking ticket as I had a appointment at the hospital I asked the lady who was on the bar how ig worked and she explained it's from 0:00 upto 23:59 I explained my problem with the ticket the lady took it from me and informed me she was on a bar finish and would be out around that time.e and she would put me a new ticket on and put it behind the bar for me the next day so I didn't get a fine I said she didn't have to do that but she insisted and as she promised when I went the next day my ticket was waiting for me I've since found out the lad's name is Karen well done to the Cumberland as a token of my appreciation I took her a thank you card in in which enclosed a gift voucher I hope all your staff do things like this for their customers Lennie x

I've known the Cumberland for well over 12 years now. It used to be a lovely old-world pub with a roaring fire, home cooked meals and staff that had been there for years. The Cumberland is situated directly opposite Doncaster Royal Infirmary, so there was never a shortage of customers. However, a few years ago the Company that owned it decided to do a very expensive make over. They spent a lot of money and made it into a young, trendy family friendly restaurant/Pub. It did work for some people as their profits must have gone up as The Cumberland is always busy, BUT the heart of the pub has been destroyed and there are a number of issues. Service is very poor and not very polite. There are a lot of young staff that have no idea of customer service. When busy, there is a MASSIVE queue, practically going out of the Main entrance as there are only usually 2 staff on. Very bad indeed. Although, I don't have much complaint about the food. I've had some really nice meals there. There are time delays sometimes. I waited with my Father for a Sunday Roast for an hour once, but it's not usual. They have to get there staffing levels right, which is crucial for ANY business. It's still a great Pub, just avoid the busy times e.g. Friday and Saturday night's and Sunday afternoon! Yes another hungry horse pub, which is opposite the hospital, where i had to go, abit suprised that the pub chain carpark had a pay and display meter but understand why, when people including myself Don't want to pay the extortionate parking prices at the hospital carpark and as a bonus the pub refunds your payment for the carpark off your food and drink bill if you go in on the same day. 😁
