Reviews of Brauhaus
S. M.
always liked the place but had not been since covid.i was very pleased the beer selection is still massive. also they have nice non alcoholic beers. bartenders know their stuff and i recommend asking them for what beer type you like instead of going through the hundreds over beers from their menu.
D. G.
Great music. Rustic but charming. Brilliantly eclectic whisky selection, great craft selection, looks like wonderful wine choices. Very atmospheric.
A. F.
A great little place, well decorated, with lots of character and a large selection of drinks. You can sit your drinks on old Singer sewing machine tables (we found a funny note inside) and candles and fairy lights make the atmosphere cosy at night.
F. V.
If you're a lover of fine wines, imported ales, or local favourites, look no further than Brauhaus. Located in Tollcross, this hidden gem stocks a blistering array of choices, where the friendly owner and staff are always happy to make recommendations. Open for pick up and deliveries at the moment, and can't wait to grab a pint there again soon.
J. L.
Very cool neighbourhood hideaway with friendly service. Learned so much about old style scotch and local distilleries. Will be back!
N. K.
An incredible selection of natural/low intervention/biodynamic wines and beer, excellent and friendly service within a lovely environment. Give it a try!
P. T.
Decent selection of whisky and beer, reasonable prices. The atmosphere and staff was not the most welcoming though.
J. J.
It’s beer heaven again!
Mix of odd seats in a nice candlelight atmosphere.
This is a proper beer place. They a large beer menu, do not think you can just peek in the fridge when deciding what to drink.
Good recommendations by staff based on what you like.
L. T.
Eclectic bar with a chilled ambience. It's small but cosy. There was no wine list, but the bar tender was extremely knowledgeable and served us a delicious wine. It's not cheap, and think if you are a wine lover you would really enjoy it, and even if you aren't, it's worth popping in to try something new.
a. l.
A great beer fridge and some incredible ipas sours and other rare treats on tap.
R. C.
What a great find. Excellent beer selection. The Chimay sign on the outside was the first positive sign. The bartender was super cool and knowledgeable about the Quads that I love. Nice and cozy inside albeit small.
A. M.
Incredibly well kept cask beer. Glad I came in and I'll definitely come back.
A. A.
Great selection of beer. Lot of Belgian beers, some even on tap. Small but somewhat cozy place.
F. A.
Had a lovely cider there that I enjoyed so much I bought a bottle to go - great staff, lovely vibe and really charming
B. J.
Back recently a couple of times and the bar staff are amazingly helpful and knowledgeable. An experience far removed from my first time here. Come for amazing beer and wine choices.
H. B.
We managed to get a walk-in table for 2 on New Years Eve and had a lovely evening. Great selection of natural wines and various whiskeys, very cosy bar.
L. M.
Superb German beer selection on offer!
G. S.
Loved this place great beer and good food friendly helpfull staff
S. C.
Good choice of beers. A very traditional pub
J. S.
Nice, warm, cozy setting with a big selection of wines and beers. Barman was great, very attentive and knowledgable.
M. V.
Perfectly curious drinks, perfectly underground interior design.
M. E.
What a place! The extensive beer, wine and cider selection is second to none. It's an unpretentious place to enjoy some of the world's best brews! Some here have called the man working here rude, j didn't think so. His knowledge was impressive and was keen on strictly enforcing Covid-19 rules, which made me feel comfortable.
P. C.
Very cute bar. If it's quiet and you get a seat it's a lovely place to chill out. They have a Couple of cask ales and maybe 10 kegs. Impressive selection of whiskies and bottled beers. Slightly arrogant barman when I visited, who enjoyed chatting more than acknowledging customers, but that might be a one-off. Well worth visiting.
V. M.
Cozy, atmospheric little wine & craft beer bar. Top-notch selection of wines from small producers, independent obscurities and skin contact wines. But wait, there's more! Good breadth of craft beers on draught and in portable formats, from wild ales to imperial stouts. Superb place!
T. F.
This place used to be a little beer lovers haven. However, after changing management a while back it's been refurbished and slightly modernized losing any charm that it might have had. The beer menu has been drastically reduced and prices inflated (if I remember correctly).
Even with the cut down menu, there's still more choice of Belgian or German beers than any other pub I know in Edinburgh, and with decent glassware.
EDIT: Increasing my rating as the management has changed again since writing my review.
Glad to see passionate and knowledgeable staff and a great selection of UK beers now in the fridges.
L. A.
Amazing selection of bottled beers in this cozy little bar. There is great ambience in the evenings with the lights dimmed and candle light. Only downside is that it is a little on the expensive side, especially if you wish to try some of the more unique beers. Nevertheless, I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Edinburgh and locals alike.
G. C.
Great selection of tap and bottled beers, plus wines! What's not to like :-)
K. M.
Great atmosphere and huge selection of beer and wine from all the craft and European breweries. The staff are really knowledgeable and will help you pick out something new to try.
S. M.
I like the beer here and the small platters are nice. They definitely live up to their German name with their well-stocked fridges full of hefeweizens, helles and double bocks, but the staff weren't all that polite the last couple of times I've been. It also feels way too expensive nowadays, as though it caters to richer clientele. It was always a bit pricey, but now it feels it has sold itself out.
E. T.
A perfect bar for beer lovers! Brauhaus search the world for strange and unusual beers, ales and ciders. They have an extensive beer menu as well as special beers for limited times only. It's a small bar but full of character. The staff really know their stock well and can advise on what to try. Great wee place.
D. T.
Good late night atmosphere. Loads of interesting beers. I was always curious to visit when passing by during the day.
N. S.
I am a big fan of Brauhaus. They sell a large selection of beers from the continent. As a fan of Belgian beers, it's a great place for me to go. Also, they have one of my favourite weiss beers on tap: Schneider Tap 7. The pub is quite small so if you want a seat, make sure you arrive early in the evening, especially at weekends.
J. M.
An excellent beer bar, specialising in Belgian beers, but also has a good selection of beers from Scotland. Great place to take a date, not really suitable for large groups.... No macro brewery rubbish.
E. P.
Only downside of this place is that it get so crowded and hot and you can’t sit outside. We came around 23:00 on a Saturday and squeezed into some standing room at the back. They have a fantastic selection of wine by the glass, some natural and funky choices. Can recommend, but I’d come during a quieter hour
G. B.
Always kind staff, good selection of beers and most importantly love their breakeven bottle. It's Laphroaig 28 ATM - as far as I remember from 2 years ago - 44.1%. Only a few more left, so be quick!
G. x.
Wide selection of beers including some alcohol free ones. Very helpful staff and a nice atmosphere.
I have been here three times now and enjoyed the experience each time.
S. A.
Superb range of bottled beers, intimate ambience, and knowledgeable friendly bar staff who really know their Flemish Red Ale from their Lambic. Feels more like a café in Brussels than a bar in Edinburgh, and as I grew up in Brussels I felt right at home!
N. C.
Nice atmosphere and a good selection of beer. However, the bartender was rather rude and kept telling us to move tables so that other guests could sit too even though the place was half empty and there were several free tables. Seemed like he was just looking for trouble!
B. M.
Cozy place, good selection of beer, ciders and wines.
J. F.
Good range of beers. Staff really unfriendly. I've been a few times and they're always unfriendly. No chat at the bar with anyone. I would not recommend this place when there are so many other good craft beer bars in the city.
N. K.
Place to go if you want to enjoy some great beers and wine. It's small and cosy with knowledgeable staff and a huge selection of bottles. Feels more genuine than some of the bigger craft beer places about.
D. W.
Love the Brauhaus for extensive, quirky beer list. Quirky surrounds including a singer sewing machine table. The staff will help you decide on a beer as it can be overwhelming with the selection but the staff really know their stuff.
m.
Massive selection of both foreign and domestic beers. Lots of new and interesting brewery's and some classic European brewery's. If you're serious about quality beer, wines, whisky and all other quality booze things go here.
S. S.
A bit of a cozy place when it gets full of people. The selection of beers arent too bad and they break them down pretty well. They run a few different taps and have a selection of whisky and bottled beer. I vaguely recall wine and other hard liquors. The place has good mood lighting with candles as your primary and a overall dim house lights hslpimg guide you. Not sure what the significance of the sewing machine in the middle of the pub is but i guess it fits. If you want a table, get there early or be ready to pounce on one. I dont believe that food is served here but you can get a bag of crisps.
S. C.
I love this place - it has a stupidly huge beer range, some truly fascinating natural wines, and if slightly drunken memory is correct freshly baked bagels. A central location close to the town centre and the cowgate, excellent staff and again, the ridiculous beer selection. The only downside is that it's tiny and at busy times you'll be seriously lucky to get a table, it is well worth it if you do however!
R. H.
Sadly a much more limited beer selection than previously but the refurbishment has made this a lot more pleasant place to be, light and airy.
A good selection of mainly Belgian, German, British and American bottler beers. Trappist ale fiends should pay a visit for some interesting choices
M. D.
Fantastic place.
Snug and cozy interior.
Best selection of craft beers. Dozens of not hundreds beers from across the spectrum. Light and hoppy, sour, ne ipas, massive stouts. You name it. And great German weizen on tap (German nationals approved).
The staff knows their offer and is great at handling crowds.
D. W.
A great selection of bottled beers, that although they didn't have a full list, the bar men showed great knowledge in offering and guiding us through recommendations. Also have a really tight and well selected back bar featuring whisky and gin and some interesting wines, offering a similar approach to that of the craft beers on offer. Loved the Mikkeller that we had, can't remember what it was, and Augustiner on draft.
R. S.
Always been one of the best places in Edinburgh for European beers and craft ales. And the recent refit has made the place even better. Small, independent and with genuine local character.
P. G.
Great bar with an expertise in all forms of beer, ales and lagers. If you want to drink some excellent or unusual bottles or draft, come here. Lovely atmosphere too.
m. s.
The vast menu here makes it difficult to choose a beer, however they do a tasting deal where you can buy a few bottles for a tenner.
It's a small pub, so it's hit or miss whether you will get somewhere to sit. If you fancy a specific beer that you had on holiday one time this is the place to go!
D. C.
Used to be my favourite bar in Edinburgh because of its mammoth beer selection and convivial atmosphere. It has become a bit 'trendy' with a bizarre selection of seats and had become increasingly quiet. A shame. Still has the best beers though! Erdinger Pikantus a must try.
M. T.
Great selection of drinks, (gutted they no longer have thistly cross cider) but the one let down is the seating. They have had a refurb not too long ago and the seats as you walk in to the left and just not where i want to sit and have a nice drink. The bar is quite small, but perfect size for the atmosphere it creates, but due to it being so small its hard to get one of the seats that is comfy. Defiantly one to try in Edinburgh, reasonably priced and the bar staff are always happy to help you make a selection!
K. M.
It's a bit small so hard to get in when it's busy but the drinks are unique even in Edinburgh and you're guaranteed a good chat due to the atmosphere. The owners are class gents too, well worth your support.
A. B.
Lovely atmosphere, reminded me of a Belgian bar, plenty of German beers to try and wines from indépendant growers
A. B.
Great selection of beer from all over, lovely atmosphere. Some of the beers are carrying a pretty high percentage so you can get your self feeling pretty good pretty quickly if you know what I mean!!!!
C. L.
A good selection of great beers are served here!
L. M.
Fantastic Belgian beer selection for beginners and for connoisseurs. Snacks, including meats, nuts, olives, etc. available. Atmosphere is very cosy, relaxed.
K. B.
What a great little place! I used to spend a lot of time in Munich and I just love Augustiner! As far as I know this is the only place in Edinburgh to get it on tap! Good atmosphere and staff are friendly.
R. F.
Friendly, atmospheric bar, with good range of beers and whiskies
A. C.
Just a gorgeous beer bar with an amazing selection!
S. L.
Dom and team have the best natural wine spot in Edinburgh, complemented by excellent beers and whiskies. Recommend - for sit in in normal times and takeaway even during lockdown!
L. S.
My favourite bar. More of a place to go for a treat than a weeknight pint but what a treat it is. I love spending time here and it's where I take guests to impress them, it always works.
K. B.
I have never met a more knowledgeable bar tender! Lovely little place, unbelievable selection, friendly and great to support more artisanal beers and wines.
M. M.
A hidden gem! Friendly, enthusiastic and highly knowledgeable staff, a welcoming atmosphere, the best beer selection in town, a great selection of interesting wines and some tasty bar snacks. Really can't fault it!
R. T.
Great beer selection and lovely staff. The girl working tonight provided a masterclass in how to handle really unpleasant customers politely and effectively. Full marks!
A. P.
Nice for a lot of choice of German and European beers and wines generally. Very small and cosy so you may struggle for a seat at the weekends especially. Friendly staff.
S. S.
Great selection of beer, natural wine and whisky (and probably other things but I didn't notice) couldn't recommend this place more. It's my favourite bar in Edinburgh
J. O.
Massively rate Brauhaus, both as a bottle shop and bar. They’ve been amazing during Covid and at Christmas and over new year do the best mulled wine in town.
N. K.
Tons and tons of selection of cool beers. Laid back, vibey and neat little bar. Reminds me of so many places back in Toronto, Canada. Love, love, love that water is already on the table.
S. C.
A beer for every ocassion and taste. The let down really is the size, and would sometimes deter me from going, knowing there was a good chance there wouldn't be somewhere to sit. Location is good - just up from Tollcross. Couple of chain hotels nearby so if you are staying in one, this might be your best bet for a nearby non-hotel bar drink.
H. M.
Edinburgh's original Craft/artisan and specialist knowledge beer place. Been around for years but sadly the decor tells that age. Small but not cramped, one for the old guard of beer lovers
S. G.
Really awesome natural wines, stunning beer, cool staff, one of my faves
I. A.
Great service from a nice pub with on the ball owners. Consistently excellent selection of beer at very reasonable prices. A pub that desrves to succeed.
B. C.
Incredible place. Natural wine and cider by the glass and a beer cellar containing some great lambic and continental classics plus keg and cask taps
S.
A new favourite. Fantastic selection of beers & intimate, friendly atmosphere. Wish this place had opened up near home.
R. G.
different experience to try new beers and wines, nice staff who come to your table. Reminded me of being back in Munich, will be back!
E. M.
Very cozy pub with a nice atmosphere and a lot of different foreign beers, maybe almost too much and you dont know which one to choose if you are not a beer expert!
L. G.
Superb bar, great selection of drinks which are not too expensive at all! as others might think. Bar staff are friendly.
place does get busy so if you want a seat get in early.
G.
The beers have a 4 side menu from all the world. Great wee place is you are up for trying something new or you are a bit of a beer snob. It can get very busy, but worth it.
G. H.
Tiny place with great beer selection. Good variety of stouts and porters. The Artisan Roast Imperial Stout is a must!
B. L.
Really good beer selection from all the world. Had like three different Gose/Berliner Weisse. Small place with friendly staff.
S. E.
Nice little bar with a good atmosphere. A serious amount of beers to choose from and friendly knowledgeable staff to help you choose.
S. J.
Small bar but with a large selection of craft beers and imports. Friendly staff and great for a cosy drink at night.
J. H.
Perfect place if you like German beers. They have almost all the beers you can think of when it comes to German beers. Staff is super friendly and location is cozy.
f. r.
Do you enjoy perusing a wide selection of beer? They're chalk covered blackboard handily conveys prices, abv's and a wee description. Gets harder to read the longer you stay though!
L. C.
Lovely wine and beer bar with a seriously impressive selection and knowledgeable staff. Also, most things in bottles are available to takeaway.
T. M.
They've really done well with the place. It's kind of small, but it doesn't feel cramped. Great selection of beer, and great knowledgeable barmen.
D. A.
Excellent beer selections. Very nice atmosphere. Highly recommended.
R. C.
Excellent knowledgeable staff and great selection of natural wine, craft beer and spirits. Nice atmosphere and good vibes.
N. A.
It is a bit small, but has a nice selection of beers. There are limited edition beers as well. Ask the barman, since the catalog is not exhaustive
T. W.
Really nice atmosphere, really good beer. On the expensive side though. £6.20 for a pint of lager!? Really?!
K. C.
It's such a beautiful place, selection of beer is insane and stuff is not only knowledgeable but also very friendly and happy highly recommended
C. S.
Great beer selection and nice atmosphere. Good pit stop on a Sunday walk or classy pub crawl.
J. S.
Great vibe, friendly staff. Great whiskey tasting and beer tasting. Thanks
m. c.
Very small and intimate, so don't go mob handed, but a great spot for relaxed drinking with a wide range of craft alcohol.
K. R.
There German beer selection is second to none so prepare to make several trips if you want to make a dent in to the menu.
N. B.
An amazing beer selection in what you could euphemistically call 'intimate' surroundings, this place is perfect for one or two (let's be honest: 4 or 5) beers on you way to somewhere else.
S. P.
Cosy wee pub with a nice atmosphere and lots of beers from around the world. Natural wine, good whisky selection and gueze beers available.

Nice bar, no music and very good range of quality beers, chairs not the most comfortable, and beer is slightly overpriced, bit worth a visit for the best selection of beer in Edinburgh

A nice little pub.
However, you have to be careful with the choice of drinks.
We drank delicious lager, but also a craft beer (strawberry flavored) and a craft cider? (smoky flavored) which neither of us could drink.
A. R.
(Translated) A non-Scottish pub (German, Belgian beers... German, French, Spanish parishioners... :P) but with a very Scottish accent at the bar. The place is very cozy, as is the service, good background music and a lot of noise from good conversations.
(Original)
