Reviews of Canny Man's
B. B.
Amazing hospitality. Food was great! Good drinks choices.
Some weird and wonderful decor.
Weird you need a key for the cubicle though. I don't like urinals but also don't want to ask for a key at the bar 😩
Only been once, would very happily return.

Best pub I’ve ever been to in the UK (and there were a few):
• quaint atmospheric ambience;
• top food, as tasteful as the music and decor (uniquely Edinburgh, but certainly much posher than most);
• excellent service, waiters as friendly and authentic as the regulars frequenting this gem 💎
Want to enjoy a memorable meal in good company - look no further, you won’t find any better.
Definitely will invite my ould man for a treat here.

Weekend Break
We recently spent 3 nights at the Canny Man, and was so happy we did, I’ve been to Edinburgh a few times though always stayed in town.
Morningside is a vibrant suburb a short distance out of town, and the Canny Man is certainly one of its jewels, the Pub is an eclectic mix of curios, furniture and art which was a breath of fresh air compared to generic Pub interiors we’ve become accustomed too.
The suites attached to the Pub are full of clean lines and quality furnishings and served as a luxurious sanctuary after a days trek around Edinburgh.
Would not hesitate to visit here again! Keep up the Good Work ✌️

Had an excellent night, fully recommend this place! It was our last night in Edinburgh and we are so glad we came here. The food was excellent and the staff were really accomodating. I have a lot of allergies and they went out their way to make sure it was all ok. Loved the quirky decor, it was one of the reasons we chose to go and it did not disappoint!
E. s.
Absolutely loved this place - completely eclectic but a must when visiting Edinburgh - if I was in the area it would be a regular haunt. Thistly cross cider on tap as well!
M. L.
Lovely welcoming pub with good food and interesting antiques all over the place. Great management and staff.
J. K.
Absolutely BEST! Choice of spirits is amazingly large - over 250! And I cant remember a place that had more interesting interior than Canny Man's. I'd come here every day for this atmosphere..
A. F.
A really great pub full of character. One of the best in Edinburgh, it is a family-owned freehold pub (meaning it doesn’t need to promote a particular drink from its own brewery) and has a large selection of whiskey and gin.
A. F. V.
Amazing place, the food has amazing quality, the portions are very good size as you can see in the pictures and the staff is lovely!!! It is a great place!!!
C. F.
A visually stimulating reception awaits you, as you walk through the doors of the Canny Mans. This is closely followed by a warm welcome and an array of drinks to satisfy anyone’s particular or peculiar liking. We went on a Friday evening for the hot dinner selection. Great food and a great place that Edinburgh is rightfully proud of.
J. R.
What a wonderful place to get a great meal in a great atmosphere, with friendly and attentive stuff. Great choice on menu, with daily special fixed price menu with 3 courses at £21.95. Full of interesting artifacts and antiquities. Like a really traditional, busy pub but even better. We had mussels, salmon, steak pie, and managed one portion of profiteroles between us. All delicious and very good value.
A. G.
A good old fashioned pub with quirky decor. Staff are brilliant, I have yet to sample the food there, although it looks amazing. Nice little beer garden out back and the pub is dog friendly 👍
T. G.
Eclectic collection in the pub, great Blues music and a very dour landlord.
K. F.
This is a really cool quirky pub and we loved that its been in the family for generations. The food smelt delicious and it had a nice chilled vibe about it.
The only negative is it felt like 1 rule for visitors and another for locals. Now I dont mind wearing masks at all however when we walked in people was walking around without so we asked the younger guy do we need to wear these which he said no its okay. Then we had got our drinks and the older bar man said very rudely guys you need to wear masks when walking around here, so we put them straight on. Whilst sat down he was chatting to what looked like locals walking around without masks on!
So not only was the bar tenders on different pages with having to wear them but if you was a regular then its fine to not wear one ✔️.
N. M.
This place is unique and well worth a visit ... plan time to peruse the walls, ceilings, the nooks and crannys... you won't be disappointed. Oh and the staff are excellent.
S. B.
Bloody Mary's are exceptional. Atmosphere and staff are great. Didn't try food this time, but heard great things!
W. L.
Excellent, family-owned pub. Terrific environment, great food. Didn’t get a drink — looking forward to coming back!
J. M.
Possibly the last man standing when it comes to characterful, family owned pubs. The exterior might not say much but the inside is an Aladdin's cave of family history and eclectic charm. Because there is no interference from a brewery or cancerous pub company, the offering is genuine; they won't sell it unless it passed with the Kerr family seal of approval.
D. M.
One of the most pictoresque pubs in Edinburgh! Really worth visiting in the way one visits a museum. Also very cozy and a decent selection of brews.
C. D.
In the heart of Morningside is the Canny Mans. Good food good wine and good service. This is another world and it is all the better for it. It is quite traditional and has an old world interior but the food uses the best freshest ingredients to deliver great food. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
I. p.
Been a few years but very nice friendly staff hope to go back for a meal sometime
B. R.
My local and one of my all time favourite pubs. I attend here every weekend more or less with my wife. We love the atmosphere and overall calm ambiance of this pub... I love the selection of spirits and wine.
Best Regards
Ron
K. V.
Excellent pub, absolutely love the decor, great selection of drinks.
C. A.
If you come to Edinburgh you need to come here, particularly better if you get to chat to a regular called Ian, totally made our night! Such a quirky venue, homely and just what we needed for our last night. It's like a rabbit Warren, every little room has its own character, and feels very authentic
M. R.
This place has long had a notoriety for being a bit stuffy and exclusive. However, I can certainly say that this has been subverted by my last visit. While the menu is relatively limited the quality of the food was great and we'll priced.
Our favorite part of the visit was the staff who had some of the best banter I've experienced in a good while as well as being very professional.
In short, no longer a no shoes no shirt no serve establishment but still a bastion for a pleasant and cozy night out in Morningside. And if that doesn't convince you to visit, then the decorations and whisky selection certainly will.
A.
It's a very odd place, the food can be good, and sometimes very average. Fairly expensive and limited choice on hot food, they have loads of staff so the service is normally very good.
C. C.
A fantastic traditional pub with a unique menu of open sandwiches and fresh seafood. Very interesting inside with lots of trinkets and drawings dating back 200 years. A must if you are in Morningside.
R. R.
Fantastic Sunday lunch provided by the Canny Man’s highly recommended! Beautiful pink roast beef, crispy roast potatoes and perfectly cooked veg. Topped off by tasty gravy and Yorkshire pudding. Accompanied by lovely starters and washed down with a classy bottle of wine. Great value and delivered straight to your door.
P. C.
Great historic pub. It had been 30 years since I'd been in it - but theartefacts/junk were similar and quirky and the place was atmospheric. Full of nooks & crannies! Great!
P. M.
The canny mans a lovely quirky place the drinks are great the food is mouthwatering and the atmosphere is fabulous x
S. J. H.
Lovely food, intetesting decor, pleasant service.
G. M.
A cultural gem of a bar with a long history in the City. A good food menu and wide selection of drinks. Staff are friendly and helpful and a good atmosphere inside. It's as much a museum as a bar. If in Marchmont or Morninside it's worth a trip here even just to have a nosy inside.
S. F.
Edinburgh's quirkiest pub
R. S.
Terrific place with individual rooms to drink and chat. Wall are covered with very nice stuff, from old pictures and even a moose!
H. M.
Food was excellent, and nice menu. Decor and ambience wonderful -lovely wee rooms and nooks full of character and history. Service fast but not super friendly.
R. E.
Proper pub. No change... excellent whisky selection
R. B.
A group of 5 of us enjoyed lovely 3 course meal served by friendly, polite and professional staff. White cotton table cloths in our our small, quirky room reminiscent of the 1940s. Good wine selection too. Very welcoming to our small dog. Exceeded all my expectations; this is a very nice, friendly place that deserves a much better headline than the "famously rude staff, cash only rule, inflated beer prices" quoted in the very wide of the mark review from SquareMeal.
R. B. B.
Canny Mans is my favourite bar in Edinburgh, Grant selection of wines & spirits, decor is eclectic, very homely!
N.
Quirky old school institution that's a great atmospheric place to visit. It's full of character and characters! Great range of beers wines and whiskys etc . Unusual but interesting menu based around open sandwiches but deffinitely worth spending a few hours in this very convivial Morningside pub. However please note there are a number of strict house rules to be aware of including no mobile phones or back packs, check the website for details.
L. H.
One of the best pubs in the world. Certainly an easy choice for a relaxed evening with excellent food and staff that are always attentive
G. C.
The pub was established in 1871, been in the same family for many years. A very eclectic atmosphere. Excellent service charming staff! I always take an opportunity to visit when in Edinburgh. Full of very quirky Antique items pictures ephemera. Where ever you sit there is something to look at. In recent years the Lanflady/ owner has worked hard at improving the experience. Love It! Very popular. Lots of interesting local customers. A must visit!
F. C.
Definitely worth a visit. Fantastic host, amazing selection, and can honestly say a place has never intrigued me more that this quirky place!
M. T.
A brief beer visit as part of a Morningside recce. Guinness great, service great, atmosphere great. Looking forward to going there more and trying the food.
G.
Brilliant pub at the bottom end of morningside. Quirky decorations everywhere. Food is fantastic, I can highly recommend the steak pie.
C. A.
Fantastic wine tasting. Staff and wines were out of this world.
b. p.
Perhaps best known for an interior that looks more like a second hand shop than a pub, which people tend to love or hate. Excellent range of whiskey, a very good range of wine for a pub and decent beer. I have not been overwhelmed in the past when I've had the smorgasbord for which they are famous but there are certainly other options. I had a full meal there recently which included a really excellent steak which came properly rare as requested.
C. H.
I refuse to say more on the grounds that you lot might overrun the place. ❤️
N. W.
Excellent evening, very friendly staff and wonderfully dry waiter who knew exactly how much attention we wanted. Food was very good indeed, came in excellent time and with perfect breaks between courses. Adapted the cheese course to our needs and all of this in a great venue full of fascinating bits and bobs. Well worth travelling for.
B. G.
A lively pub, full of character and decorated with all sorts of parparaphernalia, bikes, trumpets, instruments, paintings, posters, stuffed animals etc. etc. The decor is genuine, unlike the modern theme pub. There is a great range of spirits and beers on offer, too many to mention. It's an intimate place with little space between the tables, but that's one of the attractions. An Edinburgh institution that you really should visit.
A. Z.
Great atmosphere, a bit busy early on Saturday night, but plenty of room to relax late on a Friday.
D. B. Z.
This place is iconic, one of its kind.
It feels, smells and sounds quirky. Very distinct ambience with great selection of spirits makes it one of my favorite pubs in Edinburgh.
An option of outdoor seating makes it an easy hangout for lunch.
K. S.
Fabulous pub. Very nice landlord.
C. B.
Very polite and helpful staff Stayed in their hotel for 3 night. Clean bright and value for money.
A. S.
The food is fine as is the choice of drinks etc. The atmosphere is still at best staid. I/we have stated before that this EMANATES from the proprietors. Even when they take a booking they can't close by saying something like 'look forward to seeing you' or when leaving 'look forward to seeing you again and hope you enjoyed yourselves'. It doesn't take much, to make customers feel valued. This is a SERVICE industry.
J. O.
A lovely local pub with a great selection of whisky. We had a great meal and the staff were really friendly. All in all it was an excellent evening.
S. L.
Excellent pub ... A definite favourite... superb food and excellent range of alcoholic beverages.
P. B.
We went for a whisky before heading home and found this little gem. A lovely welcoming atmosphere and cosy place to grab a drink and soak in some Edinburgh experience. Would definitely recommend for friends coming to stay in Edinburgh if they want a nice and friendly pub.
I. B.
Super quirky, great staff, be sure to make time to go and enjoy it and not a foot in and our kind of place. The steak was top class and a superb selection of whiskys.
V. M.
Excellent food, wonderful hosting from the charming and enthusiastic Italian man. Really enjoyed our lunch today.
S. G.
Fantastic nostalgic pub, well worth a visit, you will be amazed with the decor. Friendly staff, good choice of drinks. Can't wait to go back again.
j. b.
One of the last great traditional pubs in Edinburgh, this institution is firstly a marvel to look at on the inside as it is a miss mash eclectic haven. Secondly the food is sublime and thirdly the selection of alcohols is amazing even if just to look at. Definitely worth at the very least having a drink in.
A. S.
This is a local pub some 15 minutes by bus from Edinburgh Old Town but definitely worth the journey. It has a restaurant as part of the pub which is where we ate. The food was well prepared and delicious. The set menu during the week is particularly good value . They also have a good selection of local beers.we would definitely go back when we are next in Edinburgh
M. H.
Eclectic pub with bags of character...... like a wooden kayak hanging from the ceiling surrounded by instruments. Great selection of beers, whisky and gins. Also serves food but I've never tried so can't review.
G. K.
Amazing and very interesting so many weird and wonderful things to see inside. The outdoor area had a great vibe and was mostly all under cover (handy for when it rains!!)
F. M.
Certainly not lacking in character and definitely worth a visit. However, would never really feel comfortable enough to call this my "local". Somewhere to go to experience a really traditional pub that looks like something out of Mary Poppins and comes with a long list of rules. Fun for once a year to show off to friends from out of town.
C. P.
Very much an upmarket place. Not the kind of establishment which welcomes scruffs. You will never run into any trouble there. Probably the safest pub in town.
Nice collection of malt whiskys there!
G. W.
Great pub, lots to admire on the walls. Good food and friendly service.
F. M.
Food was simple and very nice. Extensive choice of open sandwiches and a great wine menu. Great pub with lots of nooks and crannies. Would definitely go back.
E. M.
What an interesting quirky "best pub" So glad to have visited , we all enjoyed our meal here for Jim and Tina's last day in Scotland before flying home to Crete. I especially enjoyed my sweet.
R. F.
Possibly the best pub we visited in Edinburgh. Lovely food (super fresh oysters and a delicious sirloin steak with pepper sauce were highlights) great beers and awesome whisky list. The wine list could use some improvement (I say this because from the menu's quotes it sounds like there has always been an interest in wine in this historical pub, but the wine by the glass is all at the same price/quality level..) . Giving 4 star only because the service was a bit cold, not very personal at all. It is a shame because this place has great character, shame the waitress did not care about leaving a nice impression. Perhaps this place is more for locals than visitors, as I noticed they were a lot more friendly I people they knew! Overall a good experience and will be back.
C. H.
Quaint old style pub. Lots of history. Packed the night we were there. Great selections of whisky. Under new management so vastly improved in terms of welcome and friendliness.
D. W.
Been coming here for 18 years. We are not from Edinburgh but usually visit when in Edinburgh a couple of times a year. Its a great pub. Love the decor, drink selection and individuality. Please visit but ssssh don't tell everyone.
P. R.
One of my favourite pubs. Just a joy to see all the rooms. Champagne beer wines and spirits marvelous. Short bus ride from centre. Highly recommended.
C. H.
The Canny Man's is a sure contender for the title of Unfriendliest Pub even now, despite the passing of its infamously grumpy landlord. But the frosty reception and the air of tresspassing are all part of the theatre of this unique little boozer.
The onslaught on your confidence starts outside, where a sign reads: "no mobiles, no credit cards, no backpackers, no cameras..."
Inside, an intimidating land lady (I think) guards the door as you enter and glares. Dare to wander in? You will need to survive the withering look that follows you around the room. Take a seat and ask for the menu and you will have a white line cloth and proper napkins set up which is very nice. If you manage to understand the ordering system (write some code on paper, not the name of the dish... THE CODE and don't for god's sake try to talk to the waitress), you're in. And it is worth it! My favourite of the hundred options is the surf and turf open sandwich though the food is all a bit pricey as is the wine actually it is good for a change.
Inside, The Canny Man's is like a curio shop alongside the traditional mandolins and dusty jeroboams pinned to the walls are military uniforms, paintings, swords, prams and a boat. Then you look up: a shop mannequin is skewered to the ceiling, dressed as a witch and many other sinister faces are peering at you from paintings are everywhere.
The whisky selection is extensive and reasonably priced and they usually do a free buffet weeknights as well as giving a little nibble to enjoy with your drink. It is our local but despite being regulars I don't think we are very welcome but hey!
A. H.
Legendary pub and probably the main attraction for tourists to go to Morningside. The decor is unique and worth a look. The beer selection is average at best and the dinner set menu is reasonably priced but lacklustre.
H. B.
Sadly they have added music, which I don’t really think fits in with the pubs eccentric vibe. The place is well worth a visit if you are if you are in the local area. There is a pleasant courtyard outside to either smoke or sit in the sun on good days.
J. K.
Great place god god and drinks
d. f.
Wow!! Great fish menu....nice steak too. Good selection of real ale.
A. G.
Eccentric décor! I love this pub. Wonderful champagne cocktails and I really want to try the food. A bit of a frosty reception on arrival but I feel that adds to its quirky style/theme!
g. f.
Good pub , £4.30 for a pint of Tennent's though 🤔👎
M. W.
The Canny Man's is a retreat from the identikit pubs and bars you get elsewhere. It is a place to go for some peace and quiet from the noisy alternatives. You can sit on your own and read a paper or sit in a small group and actually hear the conversation. It is not open plan so there is lots of little areas you can sit in. There are no outside distractions. The drink options are good. You get nibbles at the table. There was a Sunday evening platter of complementary sandwiches. The interior is something you need to experience for yourself. If none of the above interests you then don't waste your or our time. Go elsewhere.
C. R.
Helped us choose from their vast selection of whiskies, staff were very knowledgeable and tolerant of whiskey novices. The whiskey was great!
J. V.
Have been into the Canny Man's many times over the years and always have an enjoyable lunch. However it has lost some of it's magic recently, prices inflated and the waiting staff needing an injection of personality. Only person to smile was the barman! Won't stop us going again but might try some other of Morningside's eateries first
C. G.
This pub is like Marmite you either love it or hate it. It has a lot of "verbotens". The best thing about it is the garden with its empty champagne bottles as ashtrays.
J. B.
Great service, great location, great environment for a drink.
F. M.
Excellent Service provided in a wonderfully eclectic establishment.
An institution of Edinburgh.
If you can only visit place in Edinburgh - this is the one.
Sunday lunch is superb - book ahead to avoid disappointment.
A. S.
Sometimes I love Canny Mans and sometimes it's just OK. Amazing bar for aesthetics. Sometimes people, including the staff are friendly and sometimes they are a little 'clicky' and aloath if you are not one of their regulars. On a good night it's an amazing place to be.
G.
Once you stepped in, the atmosphere is taking you back in time.
Relaxing place to have a pint.
J. W.
Impossible to categorise. I always enjoy an evening at the Canny Man's, but it's rarely my first choice for a pint. Quality very high, character idiosyncratic, prices a bit high. You should try it once. You might love it, but I know one or two people who really don't.
J. K.
A unique, quirky experience. Cash only bar, beer garden, and usually a complementary pot of nuts or popcorn to go with your pint. Odd collection of artwork and curiosities on the walls. Has a reputation for being a bit unorthodox, and deservedly so.
D. T.
Along with The Clifton in St. John's Wood, this is one of the best establishments in Western Europe. Superb beers, whiskies, wines & cuisine. Simply the best...,
D. B.
The staff was incredibly welcoming and warm. Don't be put off by those who say otherwise. The interior is wonderfully eclectic, and the whiskey selection is phenomenal!
I. B.
The Canny Man's is a well known Morningside pub. It has a fantastic whisky selection and quirky decor which has remained largely unchanged for years. Well worth a look in.
S. M.
As always say the best pub in the country for character always found it friendly but I am a bit bias as was a local to me many years ago even now when I get home to Edinburgh I always go in for an evening and have done since was a teenager, will be up there in June 2019 and looking forward to it
I. V.
To say this place is quirky would do it an injustice. One of the most unique pubs I have ever visited. A definite must visit place if you are in Edinburgh.
L. A.
Excellent service and great food, I would highly recommend a night out at the Canny Man's
D. N. A.
Well, it's an institution at least.
It's a strange pub, the Canny Mans - it's not exactly welcoming (no backpacks, no phones, no cameras, no cards) but it has a certain charm about it that's unmistakable.
Unchanged for decades, you can imagine Miss Jean Brodie popping in for a sherry and encountering exactly the same décor and service.
And they put on a buffet every now and then...
M. T.
Canny Man's is a Morningside institution a tad more expensive than others however a unique pub.
D. R.
Eclectic decor, local punters, and an almost endearing gruffness to the owner. Can almost always find a place to sit, great range of drinks, oftentimes free finger-food, and the unique interior is worth the trip by itself.
M. N.
Very atmospheric, staff very friendly and helpful. The seafood was excellent and very fresh. Great selection of whisky and wines. Highly recommended
K. S.
I love this little pub. I should end my review there really as what more would you need to know? It's a great place to catch up with friends, whatever season, the beer garden has never been a draw to me, i much prefer to sit inside and look at the eclectic ornaments and pictures. There's a fair amount of controversy surrounding the canny man, apparently they have the cheek to turn away less dressed people, ie workmen in work clothes. How very dare they! But i think it adds to the charm, there isn't a day i've walked in and wondered if i'd be special enough to be refused entry! What can I say, I like character! Believe the rumours about it being expensive, it is. I really shouldn't add that it's worth it but I already did! As a footnote, i've recently discovered that they do cocktails! Very good ones at that.
C. W.
Food was good, place is lovely and a bit different, staff are very friendly. Open sandwiches although tasty are a bit small if you're hungry and poor communication from staff and oddities in the menu led to confusion and some mistakes with our order.
J. D.
Loved it,lovely food and friendly staff 💚
L. D.
Nothing short of a municipal institution! Going from as long ago as 1871 and long may it continue, in a world of identikit pubs canny man's really stands out. Great service, great wine and love the décor.
R. E.
What a gem of a place, loved it. Great staff and a big thank you to the gentleman in the waistcoat for finding us a seat.
P. B.
Sunday roast was epic! Friendly staff and dog friendly. Decent selection of beer, and holy moly the Sunday roast was good! :)
I. H.
I used to work here years ago was a great pub. When I went in to visit lately it has changed so much but it was beautiful and great memories. X
C. M.
Meal was amazing, surroundings cosy and convivial. Staff were cheery and efficient. Stayed at the adjoining Lane boutique hotel where we had a very comfortable night in lovely spacious rooms
S. J.
Popped into this pub for a bar lunch. Limited menue but great home cooked food. The best pub lunch I have had in a long time.
D. L.
Really cool pub with a very friendly staff
N. P.
Atmospheric pub, very friendly and welcoming staff. Service was excellent. Guinness was outstanding
C. R.
Sometimes pubs this quirky are not good pubs, but this one isn’t one of those. There’s good service, lots of seats, and the layout means you can usually get s quiet corner to yourselves.
L. E.
A strange place, a bit like antiques roadshow has exploded in there. Drinks are good, although atmosphere can be either very welcoming, or the complete opposite. Worth a visit.
A. M.
Unique place. Huge array of drinks. Lovely menu. Excellent customer service. Well worth a visit.
G. T. H.
Excellent home made food and service 10/10
We will certainly be back.
L. Y.
Really nice place, quirky and with a friendly atmosphere. Lovely surprise to find a decent sized beer garden out back too!
S. L.
Good little pub. Recently changed hands and is MUCH friendlier and more welcoming for nonlocal folk now. Feel of a good British pub, great decor and good beer.
Y. K.
Had a lovely Evening meal here on Wednesday Husband had Haddock Mornay which was delicious (I have to taste everything) I had a starter of Prawns with Smoked Salmon followed by the beef Bourgignon also great will go again for the Evening meal Sorry can't get my head round French spelling.
S. P.
A unique pub - masses of character. Staff have a reputation for being overly discriminating but I've never been on the sharp end, and a bit of quirky isn't a bad thing.
K. g.
Great wee pub
luv green santa 🎅
m.
Lovely place, very much a traditional pub
H. T.
Wonderful, quirky pub in the Morningside area of Edinburgh. So much to look at whilst you are enjoying a pint of Innis and Gunn. Highly recommended.
P. E.
Great Service, wonderful atmosphere, love this place
R. J. R.
Quirky decoration, worth a visit
D. E.
Popped in here for a drink on a (rare) sunny Saturday. Lovely pub, nice beer selection and very friendly staff.
L. W.
A quality upmarket pub come restaurant. Do not expect to be served in wirking clothes. Food and drink are upmarket, worth a visit but remember, prices to match.
A. F.
A good pub with an excellent atmosphere. Staff could maybe be a bit more friendly, or perhaps this adds to the character?? Give it a try nonetheless, you sure wont forget it!
F. C.
Decent enough pub. One of the best bars in Morningside. Has regular closing hours and decent staff.
P. M.
Very nice interior but the "famous" sandwiches are small and Underwhelming.
Nothing special.
The mince pie was great though.
M. G.
Perfect pub in Morningside, so much character, great atmosphere and fantastic selection of beers and whiskeys. A must visit for anyone in the area.
M. R.
Historic old place I hear. Been there for time. Which is cool cause there's lots of stuff to see inside it but at the same time it has a mannish, obnoxious vibe. Ppl drink too much eh
M. A.
Fine enough pub, looks to be great whisky selection. Expensive though. Other patrons not the best.
c. f.
Lovely pub with a lot of selection and friendly staff. Excellent hotel on the side which I used for a quick business trip and was thoroughly impressed
K. N.
Excellent meal in restaurant and lovely drinks area out back.
A. S.
Great atmosphere and relaxing and civilised. Music on in the background which was just at the right volume. A proper pub to savour.
A. O.
Great little drinking venue. Quite classy actually. Lots of quirks from pub and staff that add to the overall vibe.
S. C.
Even without alcohol this place remains one of the very best places in Edinurgh to have lunch, truly special place to drink and be merry
J. H.
Best bar in the world though nowadays my wife frequents more than I do (she meets her friend to enjoy their midweek evening set menu)
D. L.
Talk about a place with character, you could spend all day looking around and still find some amazing pieces you didn't see last time, just a shame that when we visited they were very full which meant that we could only order cold food
P. O.
Long established distinctive pub in Morningside.
R. B. H.
The best bar in Edinburgh. Excellent food, service and ambience. You can't fault this family run bar.
C. A.
We are incredibly fortunate to have the Canny's as our local. Amazing pub, full of character and history. Couldn't recommend it highly enough

Great bar, has history and character. If you are not nearby take a cab and enjoy a little bit of Morningside.
N. H.
Not keen on choices of light meals for lunch and soup wasn't brilliant with lack of bread. But overall a nice place maybe if having a full meal.
W. B.
Friendly atmosphere. Good beer

Excellent selection of gin and very interesting decor. A bit pricier than a regular pub.
M. W.
Fiery Bloody Mary's. Great quirky place. Don't expect a smile.
Mr. Kerr's standards live on. Beware, cash only.
A. S.
A fabulous place with a quirky atmosphere with some very old artefacts. A very old establishment with a very extensive menu, and the Bar is very impressive.
C. N.
What can I say steeped with history , passed down the family really great food and friendly helpful staff.
p. l.
Don't like the changes. Loss of bar in main room, plain windows, no waiter service, no nibbles, another price rise
S. H.
Wonderful pub. Decor is fantastic. Feels really warm and cosy. A definite must - even if just for a drink!!
C. B.

J. C.

V. D.
Very good, delicious piping hot food, An authentic Scottish local institution.
C. S.
Lots of old world charm without faking it or feeling twee. Beware their Bloody Marys. They are sensational and lethal.

Very nice when quiet but miserable when busy. Staff are very polar: had one exceptionally good waiter, but bar staff were very snooty.
P. S.

Quirky and atmospheric, this Morningside institution isn't for everyone but if you want a cosy wee spot for a drink or two for a chat without music blaring you could do a lot worse than The Canny Man's

Used to be an institution. Now just a
