Lovely pub and lovely Christmas decorations. It was snowing outside and we weren’t sure where to go, but found this pub nearby and were very impressed by the food and environment.
F. K.
That was fun! Had great time and nice lunch. Food was really tasty. And staff was SUPERB! So funny and very informative 😊 xixixi... cool dessert😂Thank you! You made our day!
H. W.
Food was absolutely delicious and the presentation was amazing. We had the Haggis, neeps and tatties and burger and chips (sorry no picture). For dessert we had deep fried Mars bar and icecream, first time trying it and it was amazingly delicious. Staff were very helpful and service was fantastic
D. J.
Spacious, traditional, well furnished pub.
Helpful staff, strict COVID rules applied, but staff at hand to assist. We were required to use track n trace app.
English app not valid, barcode available to scan and download.
Best to reserve a table during expected busy times.
I. K.
Love this bar. Great staff, very friendly and attentive. Food excellent, chicken wings a MUST!!!! Great atmosphere when busy. Give it a try, highly recommend.
A. T.
I remember the food was great. I had burgers with fries. Loved a lot how they arranged the place. Great atmosphere to have a great meal and many beers with friends especially lunch and dinner. Will come back again for sure next time I'll be in town.
M. O.
Just had dinner here with my partner ordered a burger and chips and my partner a cesar salad .I would like to say this bar /diner was 100 percent perfect food was quick tasty the staff were very polite and I would definitely recommend this place for food and drink .I will most definitely be back and my belief is workers who take pride in there job deserve recognition
S. S.
Before our arrival to Edinburgh, we looked for a bar with a kids menu and mac & cheese for our LO. This one was perfect, because it had both. The place is beautiful! The food was really really delicious! The service was excellent! The guy who took our order, made sure everything was good. I ordered Haggis and my husband order the Fish and Chips, both were absolutely delicious. We had a wonderful time!
V. S.
A nice place with wonderful interior.
S.
1. Social distancing rule was well kept with a clear instruction from the entry to the bar
2. Both Haggis and Fish and Chips were top quality even comparing to other top restaurants on trip advisor
3. Waitresses were highly attentive
We had a very pleasant first dinner in Edinburgh. Thank you.
R. C.
Great atmosphere. Food is top notch. Nice selection of Draught beer and cask ales. Staff were absolute champs.
L. B.
Good drinks, good food and a lovely atmosphere. Waiters are doing a great job! Loved it!

Fun little pub right by the City Library! We enjoyed our meals- we wanted to experience a Scottish pub vibe but with vegetarian food and George IV delivered, however it did feel quite touristy and shiny.
Also the menu on their website is not correct. I found the drinks menu a little overwhelming- e.g. they have SO many types of gin, it would be nice to get recommendations. Overall a nice solid meal though.
T. K.
Stumbled upon this lovely place on our way to the castle - it was quite busy but we found a space quickly near the entrance at the high tables and the service was really quick and attentive (table service in place)
We had leek&potato soup for starters (YUMM) and fish&chips and chicken pie for mains. Really nice and massive portions. We ordered an extra portion of chips thinking it won't be enough and here comes a MASSIVE bowl of chips. They were very nice though so we held on to them as a snack with the cocktails that we ordered instead of desserts - bailey's banana colada (delicious) and a whiskey sourz.
Not the cheapest of places but reasonably priced as the food, drinks and service was really good.
J. C.
Only in Edinburgh for one night travelling through Scotland but my friends band was playing. Great little pub and drinks were great. Check out old dollar bill for some lively music throughout Edinburgh venues.
S. B.
We stopped here for breakfast on a Sunday morning and very glad we did. Unfortunately I was so hungry that I forgot to take a photo of the food, but it was amazing. I ordered the full Scottish breakfast and it came just as I like it, with nice crispy bacon. My partner was very happy too that they serve decaf coffee and they have coffee syrups. It was a bit early for me, but they do have a huge gin list which I would love to try next time I'm there. I'm not a whiskey drinker, but by the looks of it they had every kind of whiskey you'd ever want too. Nice clean toilets. Lovely staff and very reasonably priced. Will definitely go here again.

Everywhere around the George IV pub was teeming with people. For some reason this place was quieter than most, but that suited us just fine. It made for a lovely stop for a relaxed lunchtime drink.
G. D.
For the short time we were there for drinks, the bartender was very attentive and had some great suggestions.
M. M.
Love this place in town, great time always, on my own or with company 💯👍
E. L.
Lovely little pub. Food was good and not too expensive. Although we had to re-ask for a drink we had ordered and ask for the bill twice.
c.
Amazing pie and fish & chips. Clean pub, great service.
Μ. Π.
Traditional environment, friendly staff and excellent tasty food. Definitely recommend it! The nights live music
A. L.
Stopped in for dinner. I ordered the Balmoral Chicken not knowing that it has haggis in it (I guess that's widely known, but not by a Minnesotan like me). Not a big deal, I'd already eaten haggis and don't hate it. But the chicken was very dry, despite being wrapped in bacon. Husband had the mussels and liked them, but the portion was tiny (as were the mussels) Potatoes were good! It's a nice looking, comfy place.
j. m.
Love milnes bar ,always an excellent pint off Asspell cider.however was extremely to be told to order at the bar when the rules for scotland are table service only, Went in to the Malt shovil also own by Green King totally different attitude.
A. P.
Really nice bar with many craft beers and tasty food. Beautiful and stylish interior. Very Scottish, must visit!
L. R.
Really good atmosphere. Lost a star due to taking FOREVER to serve us our food. But the food itself was of a much higher quality than other pubs I have been too. I would strongly recommend this place for a lunchtime stop!
E. B.
Popped in just for a quick drink and ended up getting food as it looked so delicious. We weren't disappointed. The food was lovely, the staff friendly and they had a huge drink selection. Would definitely go back.
P. A. H.
This pub has been totally renovated and it is a charming place. I asked if they could make me a vegetarian Caesar Salad. No worries. The waitress came back a few times after consulting with the kitchen and so when my meal came it was basically a deconstructed salad with things on the side. It was fresh and obviously just made and it was DELICIOUS.
My cousin had the haggis with neeps and tatties (he is obviously NOT a vegetarian!) and his meal was beautiful.
You can't fault the service and the ambiance and the food. Heaps of beer on tap. A winning combination.
B. B.
Good pub, close to Royal Mile. It was busy, but got a table quite quickly. OK range of drinks and food was nice. Arrived in good time at the table. Food - big portions, you need to be hungry to go!
V. M.
Great find to have a few drinks after the Scotland Vs South Africa game. Shame about the game result but managed to watch the England game here. Staff were lovely and friendly, a large selection of drinks and super great atmosphere
A. B.
Marvellous pub on George IV Bridge in the old town. Old-fashioned, plenty of pictures hanging on the wall. The food is tasty (we had two pies) and there's a long list of beers. Live music ❤️ and kind and polite staff
N. B.
Nice pint, nice food excellent staff. Attentive without being overbearing or at all pushy. A pub i will definitely use again, when I'm next in Edinburgh.
S. A.
Good service with a smile, food was very good. Fish&chips one of the best that I had, Salmon good as well. Good choice of beer with some Cask ale.
K. B.
They serve food till quite late (when other pubs stopper already, e.g. Saturday night it was after 9pm) and its quite a decent food.
Try the traditional scottis smoked fish soup or the beef and beer pie.
P. H.
Excellent service with a smile, food was first class. Haggis, neeps and tatties were great and so was the deep fried mars bar dessert. Highly recommended.
D. S.
Interior very nice. Looks like a local bar but bit touristy. Would come again for a quick pint only.
G. R.
Great tavern, good music and excellent food!!
We enjoyed a lot!
A. C.
Popped in to have a Scotch egg and didn't get service for 10-15 min after being seated. Mind you that someone just got done cleaning my table so they knew I sat down. Servers were busy but also not paying attention to the patrons. Waited a while again to get my bill when I was finished too. I went in the daytime and there were a lot of people but it wasn't packed. Scotch eggs and chips were fine. Service was the worst I experienced in Scotland.
J. G. V.
Great place for food and drinks! Even not in the menu they have half size portions for kids.
S. J.
Visiting for first time on a short break from Leicester. Staff very helpful and friendly and great beer and food. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Edinburgh. Where can I buy one of the Guinness t-shirts the staff were wearing ? Very nice 😎👍🏴
m.
Found this place by chance on a short break in Edinburgh and really pleased we did. We went in just looking for a quick lunch and were met by very friendly and attentive staff. The food was delicious and seasoned perfectly, only wish we were here longer so we could visit again.
P. G.
I listened about the typical Scotch Eggs from Scotland.... Well, it's not easy to find a place with it but in George IV Bar I ate a fantastic and tasty Scotch Eggs and the price was reasonable . The bar is very Scottish, the atmosphere nice and the waitress friendly.
K. A.
Just a great bar in Edinburgh, it was a first bar we visited after moving to Edinburgh and now it's our favourite spot for a couple of drinks! I'd recommend this place to everyone who comes to Edinburgh or lives here. Once we tried the food - and it was just amazing ! The beef and ale pie was very delish and even deep fried mars bar comes with a very nice presentation :D Highly recommend, great vibes!
R. R.
Beautiful place, good choice of drinks, very friendly staff, great sweet potato fries:)
B. K.
Nice bar area in a great location. Well priced and very friendly and attentive staff. Food was ok hence the 4/5.
M. P. (. y. c.
Classical Scottish beer bar, with a lot of different beers to choose. A good place to visit if your tourist
h. c.
Really enjoyed this place, fab hand pulled ale and good service. Stayed way longer than intended!
T. B.
What an excellent find! We initially had to wait outside as the place was fully booked (I recommend booking way in advance) but was fortunate enough to get a place at the bar. There was live music, great local beer and a buzzing atmosphere!
J. M.
I liked the old fashion decor and the music from the late seventies and early eighties
A. D.
I ordered the mash and bangers and they were okay- nothing special. My friends got the pie and apparently it was beyond delicious. The service was not slow and they allowed us to pay seperately. The place has a nice ambiance but it a little pricey. Almost £12 for fish ans chips thats is just too much.
D. M.
They didn't have a lot of drink ingredients for being a pub. They charged me for a drink I never got. The food was okay. The dessert was the best part.
M. T.
We ventured here on a Thursday early evening during a two night stay in Edinburgh. It was understandingly quiet due to the pandemic, but the drinks were reasonably priced, with a good selection, the staff were attentive but not pushy on a quiet night. We had a good seat at a high table near the front window so could watch the world go by. The pub itself is Edwardian in style but not plastic, so had an oldie worldy feel. Shame we didn't get to see any live music - I would imagine it is lively when a band plays (in a good way)!
J. G.
Gorgeous food and the service was excellent and quick despite it being busy. The staff are so friendly here. Would 100% reccomend!
M. d. W.
Staff was friendly, value for money and food was excellent.
R. H.
Decent pub with a good selection of Beers and spirits, even though it is in a tourist area the prices are not to bad
a. d.
We had lunch, which we enjoyed and the staff were friendly and attentive.
D. M.
Good selection of beers and whiskies. Traditional pub vibe with bit of music.
D. H.
Nice cozy pub. Beef & beer pie and the scottish balmore chicken, were delicious. ( If you've never tasted haggis just start with scottish balmore chicken. ) For dessert we ordered cranachan(& extra ice), sticky toffee pudding and the deep fried mars bar.
The cranachan is mediocre, a lot of cream. sticky toffee pudding is a large portion. So was a bit heavy. the deep fried mars bar really heavy. Just like a dutch donut with mars 😂
The staff is friendly.
P. O.
Great atmosphere, very attentive bar and floor staff, excellent door staff in managing permitted numbers on a busy Saturday night. Food delicious, plentiful and served promptly! Excellent live band ("Drouthy Neebors") Would highly recommend this bar! 👍
S.
Stopped here with my family for lunch whilst sightseeing in the city. Good beer and superb food with friendly and efficient service. I'd definitely return.
V. C.
Great little pub close to the Royal Mile but far away enough to avoid hordes of tourists/locals even on a summer weekend. They even did cocktails (espresso martini) which were all right. Prices were average.
D. K.
This is a good pub with phenomenal food. You will not get the traditional pub experience here but for a quick hearty bite, this is the right place.
I. M.
Nice old style pub. Choice of beers. Friendly staff.
P. D.
Friendly staff and great selection of drinks. Very clean.
A. Z.
The food was fine, the beer was fine, the service was fine, the bill was reasonable. It's a pub, everything went as you would expect into one.
G. D.

Staff were very helpful . Enjoyed the beer as well 👍

Great pub just off the Royal Mile. Good beer and great whisky selection - we had the steak, which was excellent!

Nice place, not too crowded on a Saturday’s night
D. C.
Nice place. Only had drinks but the smell of food was lovely. Their pies looked great.
A. P.
Tried the chicken wings and cullen skink ( a soup ) both tasted very nice. And tried the lager beer and the local gin and tonic.
H. A.
Excellent way to spend a rainy afternoon. Cullen Skink to die for 😊
N. W.
Lovely little pub, staff were super friendly and the place had a oldy worldy atmosphere. One of the better pubs we visited with regards to covid safety.
R. M.
Lovely bar with very friendly and helpful staff.
R. D.
Nice place, not too crowded on a Saturday’s night
D. P.
Friendly and attentive service, very covid aware, easy ordering, clean and well stocked pub. Burgers were delicious 😋
G. G.
Decent pub with friendly staff and a few hood local ales. A good place to watch the world go by...
M. D.
Amazing atmosphere, service and food! 10/10
S. M.
It's nice to have a quiet place to have a few drinks and a meal in the centre of town without it feeling too touristy or too exclusive. Good food menu - the mac and cheese was delicious. Chips portions are generous to say the least. Overall excellent value for money and a nice setting away from the bustle of the royal mile.
T. M.
Food was excellent and the staff was very friendly
M. C.
Very good food, friendly staff, no booking required.
M. D.
We came from a pub called Deacon broddie.to George IV.i wished I came here first. Yes it was a bit pricy services was spot on if your glass was empty they be straight there.D broddie same price and didn't care less Twice we asked to be served got totally egnord so rude no wonder there was many in there.staff or owner should be ashamed to run a pub in a great city.
B. G.
Good food, great beer, what else would you expect?
Nothing!
M. C.
Great place, food and beer. Staff were first class
T. M.
Excellent food in Fantastic bar service
Z. M.
Falafel burger was amazing! And the chips are to die for! Best I've ever had! 🥰 Staff are super friendly!
P.
Very nice place, cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. Recommended
j. r.
A pub and restaurant filled with ambiance and character, the staff disinfected surfaces well and all wore face masks, drinks were all garnished well and service was impeccable. Not what I was expecting when I arrived
D. W.
Brilliant bar if you're in the area definitely worth a visit 😀
C. G.
Traditional modern doing its best to look 19th century or Edwardian which is a difficult task to pull off. The service was excellent and friendly and reasonably priced considering the prices some of the other city centre bars are charging.
G. M.
Great service, welcoming pub. Child friendly and reasonable food
G. C.
Really nice and authentic food. The waiter are also really friendly.
A. P.
The Scotch Eggs are quite tasty, but much of the other pub food is decent but not spectacular. However, the service has been excellent at each of our visits, and the drink offerings are very good. Live music some nights, and it was really quite good.
r. d.
A lively and lovely, friendly bar to pop in after making it down from the castle to George IV Bridge.
J. N.
Wonderful restaurant and bar. Food was fantastic and hot.
When we arrived there was a table with 2 chairs so we had to find 2 more. Our waitress was fast with placing our orders.
Regular Scottish bar food. They do have a veggie burger, mac & chex and ceasar salad.
Restaurant was clean they had 2 dumb waiters. 1for removing dirty dishes and another for bringing up the food orders. Great idea.
I would highly recommend this for a meal.
2 couples £90.
C. C.
Cool pub. Great service. Great for a pint or few.
M. S.
A nice pub with a cool vibe. Service was pretty good. I think my favorite thing was the soup of the day which was lentil. Other than that, the food isn't anything too exciting. We needed food and drinks and that's what we got!
M. P.
A beautiful classic old english pub, with a number of beers we truthfully enjoyed while chilling with friends in cosy atmosphere.
The staff was extremely kind and they suggested our drought beer well.
Highly recommended!
H. M.
Wicked bar with a great selection of ciders. Plus the decor is super pretty.
J. H.
Excellent food brilliant service would recommend it to friends .Had 3 meals there super food
r.
Great pub, looks like a museum, loved it
J. H.
Solid pub with a good selection of beers whilst being reasonably priced. The seating arrangement was very nice too, with enough space for whatever you wanted. I didn't try the food however, as it looked slightly expensive, with no deals to ease the burden.
B. G.
Went in early, so there was less crowd. Place is always full coz of the food and drinks. Wonderful service. Previous day was totally booked we didnt have any place to sit. So went in the next day. Another must visit Pub in Edinburgh.
J. W.
Great food, great friendly staff.
Reasonable prices.
k. m.
Great place! Live music, cold drinks and brilliant atmosphere.
T. W.
Great live Music, great atmosphere, reminds me of a cool bar in Amsterdam.
A. C.
Decent Friendly City Pub
Decent food, the beef in beer pie was excellent with a decent depth of flavour. Balmoral Chicken stuffed with Haggis, and a good burger. No complaints from the rest of the party.
To top it all the beer was good.
S. R.
This is a big improvement on several pubs who've tried here. Opening up the main space makes it more lively and welcoming. The staff are nice, it has a good selection of drinks. It has a local pub feel in what is tourist central. It's a shame then that is just plays loud generic pop which adds no atmosphere and is just loud over conversation. One day pubs will realise how great traditional Scottish music (like Coda music sells a few metres away) is for pub atmosphere.
D. A.
Good service, good food, especially the steak and ale pie.
P. B.
Nice bar but gets busy at times
L. B.
Lovely old pub, please visit and support in these difficult times. Family friendly and just a stones throw from the castle. COVID-19 restrictions adured to. We were made to feel welcome and food was good.
J. F.
Really engaging and helpful staff, offered recommendations and followed up on them, great selection of drinks
N. T.
It's a lovely place to have a guid beer in. The staff were excellent.
B. S.
Nice atmosphere, lookes like an old scottish pub. The waiting staff was not really paying attention, we tried to order our food for 15min and also tried to pay the bill for more than 15min, while the pub was half empty. We then asked if we need to order at the bar but this was not the case.
K. L.
Visited on a wet Sunday during the festival.food was ok and a bit slow but beer selection was good with lots of draught beers. The menu was traditional and kind of suited the pub. The food was worth the money , was fresh and the bar had lots of seats . It is in a good location too. The Innes and Gunn IPA was good!
M.
Fantastic lunch with two great friends and my dad the food was excellent personally had probably the best nachos I have had in Edinburgh definitely recommend for any fans the steak pie my dad looked very tasty whilst one of my friends had fish chips and was a very big portion yet tasty along with the chicken burger definitely would return
D.
Just a short walk from the mile, really nice, Haggis fritters and fries, both amazing, staff really friendly.
B. L.
Popped in last night for something to eat, service was nice and quick and very polite. Smoked salmon to start followed by the beer pie. Good quality pub food with a selection of local beer.
J. W.
This is the third time I have been out since August and each time I have called into here at some if not all of the times out and each time the staff have been excellent. I look forward to the next visit in the near future.
G. L.
Was in last week for something to eat, and a beer. I ordered a Bloody Mary a pint of Heineken and a Cheeseburger...Bloody Mary was so good, I think I had five in total. Cheeseburger was tasty, fries were good.....however, there is a problem with fruitfly. I was swotting them away with monotonous regularity, as were a few staff members behind the bar...Cheeseburger, Heineken, five large Bloody Mary's came to £50....was worth it for the Bloody Mary's....keep up the good work.
R. M.
Great fast service. Very good food portion size. Nice ambience.
M. R.
good bar, many different drinks available but not intelligently stored (you need to get a ladder to get to the whiskys), reasonable prices. Since our hotel was across the street we found it a great bar for a nightcap.
A. M.
Large high ceiling pub with a good range of local and craft beers. I wouldn't use the word cozy to describe this place. All hard wooden surfaces, lots of noise bounce, can get very loud without being full. Fine in the middle of the day for a quick drink and a rest while on the tourist trail. Does do food but seem to struggle with long wait times. I didn't eat as a result, but the beer was fine.
f.
Good food and atmosphere.
e.
This is a great place for eating traditional Huggies and drinking local beer
P. D.
Great pub with a fab atmosphere. Food is of a good quality and would recommend a visit. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Place is also kept very clean.
Y.
Friendly staff, good beers and the most amazing chips ever!
S. D.
Had a leaving lunch on friday past and the person whose lunch it was has an allergy. Chef could not accommodate her unless she chose a salad consisting of leafs parmesan cheese. She asked to bring food in as we were all eating . Was told no!!. Also told we could not pre book tables but on arrival saw reserved signs on some tables!! And to top it all we could not push tables together so that we could all eat together. Not ideal 😡
d. a. g.
Nice garlic bread with cheese
R. D.
Really impressive pub, great atmosphere, really pretty inside. Food not as expensive as expected for the area and much better than expected quality - mussels, cullen soup and haggis all excellent and even the chips were good enough to get a mention.
G. M.
Wonderful time on Saturday for our last night in Edinburgh.
Good drinks and food. We also appreciate the live music which was great.
M. S.
Great fresh pub food.
Walked around the streets until we walked past this one. Plenty of people inside that’s usually a good sign.
Did not disappoint.
Fresh food cooked well.
Went home with a full belly.
R. V.
Great pub, very accommodating, service friendly and great with the dog.....Nachos amazing
D. W.
Popped in for an hour for a couple of beers . Didn't have any food but it did look good when they were bringing it out
C. S.
Great bar. Nice food, nice theming and good staff. I would visit again and try something else on the menu.
J. C.
Nice pub. Service was really quick. They serve hophouse13.
Didn’t eat here but from what we saw the food looked good.
C. P.
Awesome experience! Fantastic beers, always helpful and friendly staff and great food. I have nothing bad to say about the place.
D. S.
a very nice pub for eating and drinking. a good menue for different beers abd drinks. and the food was also good and the portions were also large. also with live music from 9pm on some days. have fun
J. F.
Seemed ok as far as pubs go but had a more local clientele and the worlds smallest toilet, felt a bit like it had its regulars and we were tourists (which we were). Lads stayed long enough and no trouble to complain of.
A. M.
Nice atmosphere, gin cost me 11 quid tho. Yikes
J. W.
Great pub, lovely atmosphere and service. Food was delicious although would have been even better if it wasn't frozen veg
J. P.
Good bar, nice atmosphere and great staff. The food is good as well. Recommend of you're around the area
A. J.
Decent beer, even better sausage and mash.
M. W.
Great location, atmospheric interior and good food.
M. P.
Busy pub restaurant. Big mix of ages probably from university as well as others. Standing room only when we went. Lots of people eating. In a street full if busy eateries of all sizes.
A. B.
Nice pub, good food. Friendly staff. Biggest bowl of really nice chips ever. Lovely tomato soup.
I. B.
Smart pub. Well laid out, good beers and decent spaces to sit at traditional tables or stand around with pals. Friendly staff too.
H. J.
Emery is amazing! Really knows all the beers and very polite and professional!!!
M. M.
