Reviews of Greyfriars Bobby's Bar
T. W.
A friend and I stopped in for a coffee and a sweet treat a few weeks ago on a day trip to Edinburgh. We had sticky toffee pudding in mind (which we got, with custard...freaking amazing), but were distracted by a daily special of meringue and raspberry goodness in a dome (so we got that, too). The lady serving us was super friendly, and the place has a cute story about a dog (be sure to touch his nose outside the place).
I'm including pictures of the meringue raspberry thing because never in my whole American life have I come that close to orgasm from a dessert. You're welcome.

This was a reccomendation by a young one. Location is great and hard to miss. We were very hungry when we reached there and waited for them to open.
And boy were we glad that we waited.... Excellent service.... Fantastic food....Great Ale'...And wonderful pudding.....
Great work team...Keep it up!

We went here for dinner on our first night in Edinburgh because of the story of the dog Bobby. It was wonderful to see the statue and learn more about it, but the pub itself was a bit of a disappointment. The chef was finishing early so we were brought our starter and mains at the same time, and no opportunity to order a dessert. This was 8pm on a Friday night, so would have expected to be able to eat eithout the rush at that time.
The staff were very friendly, but the service was quite slow. The food was okay, but nothing too special and the atmosphere was a bit dead. There are other better places to try scottish classics in the city.
K. K.
Friendly staff. Very professional. We ordered steak pie and burger. The steak pie had gristle and fat and that puts me off looked good. Hubby said his burger was nice. The pub decor is nice olde worlde. I would drink here but not eat.
A. B.
Great food, amazing location and atmosphere. Staff was pretty friendly and sat us immediately. Only down was that they seemed to be out of many food options and drinks.
l. b.
The pie was good , atmosphere of the bar was splendid as well . Old , rustic feel of Edinburgh’s bar . Staff was good and friendly to every single customers . Give it a try 👍
P. T.
It was cold and raining, I would have liked to have a longer look around but I was soaked to the skin. Some very interesting gravestones, I loved the statue of the little dog... Greyfriers Bobby. #purplenanatravels

Fabulous! Restaurant quality food and 5star service. Welcoming and professional bar/table staff, serving amazingly good food. Had a thoroughly enjoyable evening in here, nice comfortable atmosphere. I seriously can't recommend this pub enough.
D. C.
Wonderful pub. We walked in on New Years Day and was greeted by a lovely gentlemen who interacted with us most of the evening, providing a lovely service. Food was great, as Londoners the non-veggies of the group were keen to try haggis and it did not disappoint. Definitely recommend for a true Scottish pub experience.

Greyfriars Bobby’s Bar is located in the heart of Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh in Candlemaker Row. As one of the most photographed pubs in Scotland, you’ll find us within a short stroll of Chambers Street, Grassmarket and George IV Bridge.
D. A.
Nice pub, well located just off the royal mile. Didn't eat here but the food looked good
Decent drinks selection with ales on tap. Friendly talkative atmosphere. Would return.
C. F.
My jet lagged husband was napping so I wandered around the city on my own. I wandered into this pub and was served by Claudia who was awesome! I asked her if the city was safe to be wandering around on my own in and she assured me it was… but found a spot for me right near the bar and said she’d keep an eye on me. So sweet.
Really cool old bar! Loved it!
A. K.
Good little bar. Reasonable prices. Great food. Friendly, polite, helpful staff.
M. C.
The quality of food is satisfying. Don't expect Michelin star flavours, but service, prices and atmosphere make up for the food quality.
M. S.
Good food, great staff

Waiters were so kind, they were really patient and very helpful. They put everything in order and set the tables to prepare for the closing, but they let me stay for a bit because it wasn't closing time yet. The restaurant stills opened but the bar was end of service, I explained them that I need some minutes to do some arrangements in internet about my flying tickets and they were comprehensives. I stayed 15 minutes more and then I went with good vibs. The service was standard and acceptable.
R. H.
Good, decent pub food, some nice cask ales, friendly staff. Nice inexpensive lunch with a bit of history on the side ;-)
P. S.
Nice pub next to Greyfriar's monument and other attractions. Good staff and food and drinks.
D. W.
Excellent service!! Very good food. Many restaurants can offer good food, but at Greyfriar Bobby's it was the service that made our visit special. Kamil's team members - Claudia, Toby, Joe, and Vick provided exceptionally attentive service. Thanks to them all!
A. B.
A wonderful little traditional pub with some Classic scottish food if you want to try some local grub! We took our dog and she was very welcome, had her own little bowl!
Social distance measures in place and tasty food, so close to so many attractions too!
J. S.
The pub is on quite a noisy junction. Buses idle at the top of the hill before revving up to make the uphill turn into the main road. Aside from that it is a standard, fine pub, but the buses really spoil the outside seating.
Y. L.
Delicious food and friendly barkeepers.
C. J.
Wonderful little bar, good is excellent, staff is quite friendly, and prices reasonable,
Don't forget to try a very Scottish fish soup, (absolutely delicious!!!!) Name is Cullen Skink, ( I know, name is a bit scary but it is actually very nice)
l. M.
Lovely pub lots of history, lovely food, clean and staff very friendly
H. E.
Lovely place!! Great atmosphere, a lot of history celebrated in this pub. The food was amazing, even tried the haggis. I dodmt want to order a massive plate and not like it, they do a starter size for 5.50. Amazing value and to be fair, I loved it!!!
K. T. K. B.
Veggie approved! I was looking all over Edinburgh for a vegetarian Sunday roast. I could not believe how difficult that turned out to be! Luckily for me Greyfriars Bobby’s came through. They had a delicious nut roast bursting with flavor, roast carrots, parsnips, potatoes, crispy kale and a Yorkshire pudding. The entire meal was spectacular, my only critique would be the gravy was a little bland. I’d recommend adding a little red wine to give it that extra twist. My dad has his haggis (not pictured) and enjoyed that as well. The desserts were also good, but I think the main dishes were the best. I LOVED the elderflower cider and am hoping I can find it in a shop back in Oxford. It was very fruity and the elderflower was very strong. Overall a great meal and a nice location. I was glad to see that they had several interesting vegetarian (and I think one vegan) dishes. All too often veggie fare is typically a veggie burger or a salad, so it was nice to see some variety, and more importantly a good meal. I definitely recommend this place. It’s pretty regularly priced in my opinion, definitely not as cheap as Spoons but it’s not horribly expensive either. Thumbs up from me.
S. H.
Good food, nice selection of cask and great list of whiskey, staff friendly and helpful.clean and tidy even though very busy .thumbs up to all.will be back
Stewart and Penny.

Delish! This was my only pub lunch experience during my stay in Scotland, and Greyfrars Bobby did not disappoint. Meat options, veg options, tasty beers. I ordered thr veggie Toad in the Hole and it was fantastic.

Nice spot to take a load off. Great ciders. Gets busy later in the day. Staff are amazing!
A. A. C. T.
Had some wonderful food but OK service. I just stopped in there took way too long for a table so we had to sit in the bar area. But the food was really good.
Actually have decent prices which we were surprised by.

Welcome to the Most Haunted Graveyard in the World...Safety Not Guaranteed..:)
The Greyfriars - is idyllic cemetery dating back to the 1560s...situated in the centre of Edinburgh Old Town and near to this Cemetery situated the Greyfriars Bobby's Bar, bringing the same name.
The day visitors and the late-night visitors can sit, eat, drink here, between whispering headstones, listening the history of stolen bodies...
Greyfriars Bobby's Bat is a beautiful place for a tranquil lucnh or dinner, just beware the ghosts...:)
But before to go to eat visit the Greyfriars Bobby - a loyal dog that stood vigil over his deceased owner’s grave for 14 years.
Anyway, take some good quality whisky, and don't be afraid :)
In menu you can find the traditional Haggis, and other tipical local dishes. Enjoy the nice atmosphere of this special place.
D. B.
Overall a very lovely experience for lunch. The food was quite tasty and so beautifully seasoned. Don’t miss the haggis. Yum! Service was great and atmosphere was top notch. Everything you want in a Scottish dining establishment.
K. m.
Pictures don't do this place justice. It's a lovely place. My favourite part was the dog memorial as I'm a great animal lover. Was interested in the comment about the film would love to know what it was to give it a watch if anyone can help would be great.
G. K.
The pies here were amazing - we had the fish pie and the duck pie, and we loved both!
The negatives - super long wait time, almost 45 mins to get served our pies from when we ordered. They also missed out my order of nachos, which we had to ask for twice and eventually came when everyone was done eating. Nachos were cold in the middle and cheese was not even melted - very disappointing and definitely did not meet expectations for such a simple and foolproof dish.
G. B.
This was a wonders experience and we’ll definitely be back on our next trip to Edinburgh. The staff and food are wonderful. Do yourself a favor and try the haggis (pictured) with mashed swede, mashed potatoes, and gravy to pour on the top. We had this as a starter and then we both had the steak and ale pie and can’t wait to go and try more.
F. C.
We a 4-member family traveling from Taiwan by taking 14 hours flight just experienced a lovely traditional bar restaurant in Edingbrough. It was very great time. Delicous mini pies and burgers with soft drinks plus beer. Not only tasty food and friendly atomsphere there but also a touching story about Bobby we still could not forget now. Well we did enjoy there. However, we queued there for more than 10 minutes for someone to serve us a table. A bit slow, but never mind. Hope to visit again soon.
G. W.
Love this little bar great service gorgeous food and drink and of course historical valuable
J. W.
If I could give this place 10/5 I would - the food was fantastic and fresh. The staff were really welcoming and professional!
We had the fish platter for starter, all of which was really fresh! I also had the crofter’s pie which was delicious!
Would definitely recommend this pub to a friend!
K. B.
Highlight of my trip to Edinburgh! This is the first time I try a tod in the hole and it was amazing. The waitress lady was beyond nice. Due to COVID, please make a reservation.
C. D.
Best service and food I've had in a while. We really felt welcomed and at home here, I definitely recommend!
L. K.
This was my must see and we did the kirkyard next door first, famous for the dog bobby and then went in the pub for a leisurely drink, I had pre booked our evening meal here and the food did not disappoint it was amazing and served quickly. The staff were very friendly and chatty. We loved it.
N. J.
Stopped for lunch and had the fish finger sandwich with very tasty Haddock dish and lovely skin on chips nice pint of ale as well around very nice place
N. K.
The staff were lovely. The food was amazing, I brought friends who were on holiday in Edinburgh as I love the food and they were very impressed
I. P.
Great pub with a real piece of history, food was very nice and a good selection and quality.
M. E.
Food is great- huge servings, delicious meals and reasonable price.
Place is lovely if you're in a mood for a pint, coffee, tea or sumptuous meal.
P. B.
Fantastic food, great service and staff so helpful & friendly. The pie was amazing..... and the atmosphere was wonderful. Seeing the statue and photos of greyfriars bobby was so lovely
M. B.
Nice cosey pub, great selection of ales and whiskey's. Good bar staff. I had the Caol Ila whiskey!
K.
Nice pub with friendly and helpful staff. The food was out decently quick and the pie was very good. Didn't like the steamed veggies but still was good value for money and only £10 for pie, mash and veggies. I'd go back again.
E. “. M.
house of pies and pub. Very Scottish style place. long chiude of beer, cask ales, cider and whisky. I tried a local draft beer Holyrood pale ale. fresh and tasty and a cask ale "Cross the line" perfect after a day dedicated to rugby. to eat tjere a short time to wait but then the food was good: of course haggis and a pie: steak ale and mushroom. also the dessert was nice a caramel profiterol. Live music is an added value. to complete a touch of whisky. enjoyed the evening in a historical place dedicated to the famous dog Bobby!
D. J.
A lovely little bar with indoor and outdoor seating. Excellent service, a great menu, and beautiful building.
Was suggested to dine here by a friend and was happy that I obliged. Thank you Greyfriars Bobby's Bar for a absolutely delicious meal!
K. K.
Friendly reception, award-winning ale pie was good, sirloin was average at best .
Not much attention during stay, even though it was not busy at all.
D. M.
The steak and ale pie was delicious with perfectly glass pastry. Good selection of beer and gin and dog friendly to boot.
P. M.
We stop here while in Edinburgh for the day. I ordered a Glenfiddich. Staff were friendly. Nice wee pub
C. G.
A good pub which caters mainly to tourists due to its location and its history. The nearby church and graveyard are also worth visiting. The graveyard is a lot larger than it appears from outside as it is surrounded by high buildings.
J. H.
Fodd was great, the platters are meant for two but if you're not really hungry (which we weren't despite going up Arthur's seat and back) then a platter with a side of chips could do three. We had the seafood platter and it was delicious. The only disappointment was when I ordered a whisky, I asked for a water on the side so I could pour some into the whisky, as is traditional, not with ice (both too cold and too much water). I was served a glass with ice *and* a slice of lemon. What on earth? They need to train their bar staff better.
V. L.
Great place to get local pie (~12£) and test of local cuisine with a pint of draught Guinness (4.75£) .
Nice stuff, service is very quick and prices are reasonable.
M. P.
Great dinner, nice atmosphere. But walking around later found that Deacon Brodie's has literally the same menu, so these must be operated by some other corporate entity. Fine, but spoiled impression of being authentic.
n.
Really nice place with a lot of history. Good food too. Lovely interior and all in all, its a lovely place to be. Centrally located in Edinburgh its definitely worth a visit.
s. h.
Lacking atmosphere from the start, its colder than most pubs should be and not everything on the menu was available.
I used the app to get £5 off but it still came to £52 for 2 mains, 2 desserts & 2 drinks... (£7.50 for a vodka & coke is just a rip off but with no prices to go on you wont know until the bill comes)... the crofters pie was pretty bland and certainly not worth £14.
The brisket burger was good (according to my wife) but at £16
These are restaurant prices for pub quality food.
Our last visit to edinburgh we ate at the deacon brodie on the royal mile which fared far better.
If you want quality good value pub food try the abbey bar a little further out of the city but well worth it.
A. R.
Been here a few times over the years and it’s always good. Located right by the famous Greyfriars Bobby statue. Good food and a wide selection of drinks.
C. C.
Really lovely place, nice friendly atmosphere. Drinks were lovely and so were the staff
T. W.
Excellent and quaint location to visit. See the Greyfriars graveyard just behind this memorial where you can lay a stick on the dogs grave. Checkout Wikipedia did the history of this location. Take a ghost tour (entrance), see the tombs embedded in the wall of the houses (right as you enter) and see some of the graves covered with Iron bars (to the left as you enter) that we're there to protect from grave robbers.
Back in the day graves were robbed to have their cadavers shipped and sold in London for medical training. (Later grave robbers skipped the middle man and just killed vagrants and drunks!).
J. D.
Very good pub beer 🍺 excellent meals good variety clean plenty space friendly plus historic graveyard next door wee Bobby the dog and his master interesting
V. J.
Good food, Scottish traditional selection. Lovely and good atmosphere. Friendly staff.
V. L.
Dog friendly and staff polite and welcoming. Bar snacks very tasty would recommend it.
p. b.
The landlords platter is delicious. The pints are good too. Lovely staff
F. a. F.
An average experience in a beautiful city. Although the pub has been around for a very long time it’s lacking some of the higher service standards you would expect from this kind of establishment. At best I would say drop in for a pint but leave your meal to another pub.
K. H.
The staff were very friendly and the food was delicious; the salmon was melt-in-your-mouth good and the stovies was good too!
A. G.
This has to be one of the most Historical and beautiful graveyards in the world in the hart of Edinburgh. Very popular with tourists and if you go on a guided tour you will find out all about the dog body who wouldn't leave his masters graveside. The ground are beautiful and some of the headstones are amazing. There are also night tours if you are brave enough to enter at night.
A. D.
Lovely old fashioned bar. Just a compliment to wee Bobby
S. A.
This is the first restaurant I put my foot in in Scotland and I was pleasantly surprised. I mainly booked it because it's just behind Bobby's statue and it seemed to have affordable prices, but it's absolutely lovely. The interior is wood-based, the items of furniture seem qualitative and there are several pictures on the wall representing Edinburgh in different ages. The staff is very efficient, knowledgeable and respectful. Both the food and drinks menus have a wide variety of Scottish and Brittish options and you can be sure that, whatever you choose, will be nicely and freshly done. I liked it so much that I returned for a second dinner when they had a live concert. I definitely recommend the place and I'll return there.
P. R.
Food was good and service excellent. And the tale of Bobby gives the place the little extra aura. Maybe slightly overpriced but it's the old town.
T. A.
A typical english style bar. The ambience inside was nice and you also have option to drink outside. They food/starters served were also really tasty.
R. C. (.
My Day off from work. Me and my girlfriend and brother had a Wonderful day in Edinburgh, nice day for it too. Went to Dynamic Earth, the to Greyfriars Bobby. To the Castle and round about areas.
J. V.
We arrived by car in Edinburgh and parked it on the reserver 'JustPark' spot in the centre that we reserved on fore hand. Here's your first advise. After 15 minutes we arrived on the 'Grey Friar spot' and we noticed it was 12.30 and it started to drizzle. Quick decision lets go to Greyfriars Bobby's bar. I went in with mixed feelings, tourist trap?? Yes I'm spoiled. But I come from the hospitality industry myself and I expect the best, just as I have always given the best. And we got the best. Atmosphere, staff, food, drinks get a two thumbs up. We loved the pie selection and enjoyed the fine pints of beer. Keep up the good work! It pays off.
L. C.
Pet Bobby and then pop on in for dinner. The service may not be the fastest, but the food is very much worth it.
M. O.
Really good pub. Nice atmosphere, good range of beers
N. D.
Nice lovely wee pub for meals and drinks and very helpful staff while I keep an eye on Bobby outside coming back again
K. A.
I really loved this place! We stopped by for lunch and were served great haggis. Staff was very helpful, and the atmosphere was amazing.
A.
Visiting as was in Edinburgh, not through choice, but had a v. Nice lentil cottage pie and chips.
J. U.
Good food good beer. Completely ignored by the staff. Made eye contact multiple times and acknowledgement and started walked towards my table and the to take care of every other table but ours. But she was quick to come for the bill.( older lady behind the bar)
C. W.
Visited a few weeks ago when we were in Edinburgh. We only had a few drinks however we had a lovely visit and the staff were all excellent. Very COVID safe also.
F. B.
Great pub, only had drinks. But the barkeeper seemed so nice that I would trust their chefs aswell. Located just around the corner from the entrance to the graveyard you have to visit if you dreamt of going to Hogwarts as a kid.
P. V.
Very friendly reception when we walked in, it was our first visit, it is exceptional inside, clean, welcoming, staff are professional, the food menu is great, we had fish gujons from the bar snack menu, beautifully cooked and presented. It was starting to get busy, it is clearly a very popular place and food served to other tables looked delicious. The atmosphere was great, music playing, not too loud. A must visit when in Edinburgh. We would definitely go back!
S. D.
Not many gluten free options. Cute and ok staff. Decent food.
L. H.
Nice place but staff were overwhelmed, wrong food and charging for food we didn't have, they were friendly though
L. R.
Edit to say: Weeeops. I'm taking the statue but I'm sure the venue is great!
This is a heart-warming story and I love that there is a statue dedicated to Bobby. We heard the whole story while doing one of the walking tours, it was excellent.
Popped over to see this guy afterwards. Small and easy to miss, but worth saying hello to if you're able!
C. P.
A very famous Statue of a dog who was loyal to his Master even after he died and sat on his grave for 14 years. The storyin my literature text book when I was in school and lived up to my expectations.
S. A.
Wonderful, authentic bar with top quality food and superb staff.
A. C.
Excellent food , and service , and reasonably priced, compared to miller and carter night be fore
M. C.
Wonderful experience. We ordered Haggis and Scottish salmon as starters and then shared a beef pie. Everything was delicious. Service was great and facilities were nice and clean. Would come back!
J. V.
Good choice of ales, great food served by friendly and efficient staff
P. R.
Lovely place very friendly and helpful staff and the food was good too.
H. S.
Kind staff and highly recommend the halloumi fries, only complaint is too much salt on food.
E. M.
Beautiful traditional pub. The weather was lovely so we sat outside with our dog. Straight away a staff member came out and offered to get a bowl of water for Teddy the dog, which was much appreciated on a hot sunny day, and luckily there was plenty of shade for him to escape the sun! Staff explained the ordering system via an app, we ordered with ease and within about 2 minutes our drinks were with us.
A. A.
Good historic pub.
S. M.
Delicous food - mind you, I visited three times and had their perfectly cooked rib eye steak on each visit!! I also had cranachan for puds on one occasion which was heaven! And their vegetarian Scotch broth for starters on another occasion which hit the spot after a long day of sightseeing. Fellow diner's food did look rather tasty - but nothing could away me from their ribeye!!
G. H.
Cheerful staff and a friendly atmosphere. Nice pint of Peroni despite having ordered 80/- not an issue when it's mad hot outside plus the barman was quite wiling to change it for me. Fun to watch the reactions of those discovering the statue of Greyfriars Bobby.
B. S.
Owned by Nicholson's chain, this pub has plenty of character, and benefits from a great location behind the statue of Bobby.
Staff were very friendly, with a good selection of food and drinks on offer (there is also a kids menu!). It isn't particularly cheap (but it is in a tourist hotspot in the centre of Edinburgh!).
Service was fast, food was plentiful and tasty, and we'll definitely be back!
R. L.
Great traditional bar good food and drinks
李.
A good place for making some new memories, but salmon is not valuable (as this price). It contains some scales, lemon is grilled (I can’t understand why), sauce is sour or tart(than it should be).
D. R.
The place is frantic with staff not knowing what's going on, where people can sit, and whether the restaurant is open.
g. s.
Great little bar, serving good food and drink, with outside seating
A. M.
Nicholson pub so can't go wrong. Very quiet. Seeing at was the last Saturday before Christmas. Just off Grassmarket.
K. 6.
Great place for a drink or a meal. Book a table online to be sure of a seat. Located at the top of Candlemakers Row, a short walk from Grassmarket.
A. R.
The food was delicious, and the staff very friendly! The service took a while, as the bar was crowded but was well worth the wait. Their pies are phenomenal!
S. H.
Only went in for a drink but nice pub and friendly staff
S. S.
Staff are welcoming and friendly.
Great little place for lunch and a catch up
F. F.
Very lovely dog friendly pub. Nice scotch broth!
P. B.
After rubbing Bobby's nose, definitely go in for a pint! Friendly staff, great place and a good pint - what else can you ask for?
G. S.
Lovely statue of Bobby, the terrier who sat on his Master’s grave daily for years following his death. A short walk from the main tourist areas, passing the Elephant tea rooms (where JK Rowling worked on Harry Potter) as you walk from the Royal Mile. Greyfriar’s Kirk is just round the corner. As you enter, Bobby’s grave is straight ahead. He might appreciate another stick!
S. S.
I had such fun with my kiddos finding out the story of Grey Friars Bobby. We also hunted around the kirkyard for the graves that inspired characters in the Harry Potter books. A very interesting place to visit.
M. B.
Had table booked for food, arrived little early but taken to table was no problem for staff. Ordered and didn't wait too long for food which was fabulous.
Е. Е.
This bar is really nice with some local specialties. The staff is also friendly.
L. C.
Small representation of a Bobby dog, nice place for a lovely story. Full of tourist everyday. Near there there's the cemetry, interesting place to visit, too.
r. d.
This is the best statue of a Skye Terrier that spent 14 years guarding its master's grave in all of Edinburgh.
It's nearby the disappointing cafe where JK Rowling sat writing Harry Potter books when she was broke.
Unfortunately the owners have ruined the cafe by painting FAMOUS JK ROWLING CAFE HERE IT IS THIS IS THE JK ROWLING CAFE COME ON IT'S RIGHT HERE JUST IN CASE YOU THOUGHT IT WAS ANOTHER CAFE NO NO NO IT'S THIS ONE THIS IS THE ONLY CAFE JK ROWLING HAS EVER BEEN IN all over it. You get the picture.
No such nonsense with Greyfriars Bobby.
G. B.
This pub has good food and facilities, love the live music ,the pub is well laid out ,the bar is well stocked , enjoyed many a night out here,so check it out ,well worth it.. 👍
M. K.
Only had one drink. Staff friendly and welcoming
a. m.
Lovely pub, great food, visited the graveyard too x
C. F.
Lovely bar. Great pint and fabulous staff.
A. S.
It is a historic legend of Edinburgh and you not miss the sculpture. Make sure to run his nose for good luck!
R. W.
Good food, friendly staff, fun time. Draft selection was limited the night we visited, and quite a few menu items were not available. But still a good experience.
A. H.
Delightfully friendly and decent bar staff. Big thumbs up 👍🏻
L. M.
Having a day out in Edinburgh and Greyfriars Bobby pub is a must for a couple of pints if tenants and calamari. Perfect ❤️ A must for locals and visitors alike
K. B.
Delicious food, friendly staff and cosy surroundings
T. B.
Service not so great..drinks ok
A. L.
Beautiful pub with good food and beer. You must try the pies. Very friendly Walters.
B.
Good grub and great service. Would have gone back but there was big fire a few doors down which shut all the buildings either side. Will definitely visit next time I'm in Edinburgh

We really liked the atmosphere of the pub. The prices for drinks are fair, food as well. However, we had two Ribeye Steaks - both of them were over done. That shouldn't happen for more than £18 per piece.
Staff were friendly and were good at keeping the distance due to Covid.
Toilets were clean.

Nice pub 👍

Had a wonderful lunch here. Great staff.

Everyone Loves the story of Greyfriars Bobby. The statue is cute its what you would expect. in fact its so cute everyone rubs the nose of this little terrier. You would be suprised amount tourists that come to get pictures taken with Greyfriars Bobby. Its just a joy to watch for five mins and see all tourists smile at this super tourist attraction of Edinburgh.
B. G.
After recieving some news about shares I just had to find out who the stunning gentleman with the nice smile was in one of the photos. It turns out he is the hunky manager of the Greyfriars Bobby. He wasn't there on my visit, which was a shame, but I had some great food and a great gin when I was there. I will be back and I will meet the hunky gentleman soon
T. V.
Great pub, amazing food and awesome wait staff. Will definitely be coming back. One of my favorite places in Edinburgh.
P. G. F.
Great service, good food 👍🏻 = 5 ⭐️

Cozy interior with a great menu. Right by the statue of Greyfriars Bobby - please DON'T rub his nose - and Greyfriars Kirkyard.

Starters:
- Vegetable Scotch broth...Tasty!
- Haggis Neaps & Tatties... Excellent
- Balmoral Chicken... Superb!
The service was meticulous and the staff were si friendly!
R. D.
Family friendly, Dog friendly, nice staff. Recommend
W. L.
Really, really friendly servers, good gin list, and tasty pies. Great vibe at this place, if a little touristy due to it's proximity to Bobby’s statue (of course, we contributed to the touristy-ness!).
H. V.
Great to see this statue and learn the story of Greyfriars Bobby as we walked around Edinburgh
d. H.
The food was delicious, the atmosphere terrific and so were the people. Totally enjoyed it.
F. Z.
Delicious Chicken and Mushroom Pie... For once a touristy spot that actually has great food...
D. W.
Absolutely lovely meal in a great atmosphere. Pies are a speciality and well worth trying. Great staff too ,made to feel very welcome.

Table for Food and table for drink are separated... Nice atmosphere
B. S.
Had a meal with friends. Third time visiting greyfriars and its surtainly won't be the last . Great food had by all .
C. F.
Nichsons restaurant and pub right next to the famous Edinburgh dog. Covid restrictons in place. Good selection of food and generous portions. The haggis is particularly good if this is your thing. Very friendly and attentative staff. At the time of visit (Jul 21), last orders is 10pm with strict chuck out at 10.30 in line with Scottish national restrictions. Booking recommended.
J. N.
The story brings you to this charming bar, but I have to admit I didn't enjoy the food as much.
A. M.
What a find, lovely pub, friendly staff and excellent food. We downloaded the app and got 25% off the total bill- absolute bargain. We will definitely be back before we leave 😊
A. P.
Very nice place & service very good & staff pleasant. Food was lovely.

Splendid place. The customer service is excellent. As a dog's owners we appreciate that dogs are welcome. My daughter was in love with cranachan.

Nice pub. I like eating here when I visit Edinburgh.
M. M.
A pint at last! Popped in for a drink around 5pm on Monday with a small group of five. None of us had been in before - it's usually very busy, especially with tourists in the summer. Started talking to one of the bar staff in the doorway and they had a couple of tables free so decided to go in and chose a table by the window at the front. Lovely pub, strange at first but quickly relaxed and got used to not wearing face coverings indoors! I would guess they're running at about half capacity, felt very spacious with the social distancing measures. None of us had been to a pub since lockdown began but the staff were extremely welcoming and quickly put us all at ease. I enjoyed my first cask ale in months, well, more than one. :) I should say that although we were lucky and walked in without a booking, they asked that next time we pre-book through their app. Two of our group used the bathroom and said it was extremely clean - not to be taken for granted in central Edinburgh! - but it is up one flight of stairs if that makes a difference to you. Can't really comment on the food as only had light bites but the fries and chips were good. I'll go back but it's also made me feel better about going out to pubs in general - strange times. Recommend.
A. T.
Lovely cosy pub - enjoyed the atmosphere as we warmed up after walking round Edinburgh.
S. L.
Lovely pub - very good food and ale
M. H.
Atmospheric place, staff was polite and welcoming.
J. S.
Very nice pub on the Edinburgh tourist trail. Good food, good beer plus staff very helpful and welcoming
R. W.
Nice little bit of history attached to the pub, found on our way to the museum and popped in for lunch, the Nicholson burger was very tasty, could tell it was made with fresh/high quality ingredients. My partner had the steak and ale pie which also went down a treat. Would highly recommend popping in for lunch/dinner nice friendly place to be
J. B.
Worth a look if your in the area to stop and take a few photos of this famous dog.
And rub his nose for good luck ☺
K. K.
Fab old fashioned traditional pub. Food was very delicious. Been served by ultra nice male trainee. Keep like that!
D. J.
A bit of Edinburgh nostalgia here at this bar and Restaurant. Plenty to choose from the menu and at reasonable price. My wife had Garlic Chicken and I had Rib eye Steak and both were very delicious. All kinds of drinks available, cask ales, lagers and spirits and coffee if you want. Very professional staff and helpful. Well worth a visit.
D. A.
We had the fish platter to share. Can highly recommend. Beer was good as well.
P. K.
Very kind service, deliciuos food. And the most important: lot of pictures from Bobby ♥️🙏
H.
I love this place so much! I've been several times, a few years apart, and neither the staff nor food nor drinks disappointed ever. Cosy Pub with a good food selection at reasonable prices. The burgers are fantastic, and if you've never had haggis because you are scared then I highly suggest theirs to be the first! It's super tasty! The Nicholson's ale goes well with it
c. i.
cute pub, greatest food, good service
A. D.
A must visit for everybody coming to Edinburgh. Great drinks range and amazing food
W. M.
Lovely place. Fantastic food
H. A. H.
You are most welcome i definitely would love to visit again if I'm in Edinburgh again I would definitely recommend to anyone it's a lovely friendly pub with great history.
C. P.
Best pub in the old town! Great location and newly refurbished makes it a true gem. Popular with travellers it is generally busy but waits are never too long. Steak pie to die for. Great selection of beers, gins and whisky. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere make it a personal favourite!
M. F.
Good food but pricey.
C. D.
Loved this place. Have been taking my parents around Europe for vacation and stopped in here during one of our nights in Edinburgh.
We had a 45 minute wait but the staff was very friendly and the bar at the front kept us entertained. Once we were seated it was even better. I had the Balmoral Chicken which was fantastic, while my parents each had one of the pies. Food was delivered quickly and felt genuinely authentic and well done, which seemed to be difficult to find in the touristy areas of Edinburgh.
Would definitely go back if I find myself in Edinburgh again.
N. C.
Came to Greyfriars on the recommendation of others. It has a great story about a dog, whose statue is outside which the Pub capitalized on. The Pub is divided into two sides, one is bar seating and the other is a restaurant side. The bar seating is small, so intimate groups are best. The food was all very good. The menu is typical Scotland Pub food. It's very laid back inside and casual. On the bar side you get your own drinks which can take a while, it was pretty busy at lunch time so it may have been just really busy. I would recommend this place for some in the city.
C. O.
Lovely pub, reasonably priced and Covid-19 precautions followed
T. C.
My favorite statue in Edinburgh. I wish the tourists would stop rubbing his nose . It's only been the last few years that it's been happening. Shame.
J. O.
We were recommended by a tour guide after the tour if we wanted a nice quick pint, was quite a nice little pub actually, cleaned very well and had a decent staff team, quaint, welcoming and reasonable on the price
d. j.
Great pub lots of atmosphere food looked good nice selection of drinks very friendly staff
N. C.
A well kept and beautiful place to take a quiet stroll, gather your thoughts and be at one with yourself.
T. A.
An outstanding Scottish pub, a true asset to Edinburgh. The food is quite simply perfect and very reasonably priced for the quality and location. The drink range caters for all tastes, lots of local beers and whisky. The staff on hand were very polite and attentive, clearly a well run establishment. I will be returning and recommend.
c. B.
Great Scottish pub with a great history, fantastic food and drink
K. S.
Good service and really tasty food...plus really great ales...
M.
Nice place and sympathetic staff. The food was good, not unbelievable but passable. I advise to take a speciality like the pies and to avoid chips (if you go to Scotland, avoid all chips/fries everywhere you go). Finally I still advise the Greyfriars Bobby's Bar but to drink something or take a pie.
M. R.
Staff was friendly. Ambiance was perfect for a pub in Edinburgh. Drinks were as expected. Good was okay.
R. P.
Had the Sunday roast. Gravy okay. Roast beef too well done. Parsnips and potatoes had a very hard shell from frying. Vegetables great. Portions good.
Good beer selection for a restaurant. A bit lacking for a pub.
Overall okay.
m. m.
Wow some place with great food.
M. S.
What a terrific place. The historic statue is right across the street & the grave site is just around the corner. A huge selection of beers, ales, lagers & fantastic hard ciders. We really enjoyed our dinner & the calamari "starter" was the best we'd ever had. Wait till you see the inside. Something interesting on every wall. We loved Greyfriars Bobby's, you will too!
K. B.
We didnt eat here but popped in for drinks during our wandering. The drink selection was quite good and the atmosphere was vintage and relaxed. The staff was friendly and helpful. Dont forget to pet the statue across the street or walk through the cemetery behind it. Both are great staples for the area.
A. S.
Lovely story history food was excellent haggis naps and tatties yum yum.
E. D.
A lovely pub with great food. I had the vegan mushroom and ale pie and it was delicious. Lovely looking out at the statue of little Greyfriars Bobby too. A bit random but the toilets were cool too being wallpapered with Georgian Madams and bawds. Highly recommend!
J. B.
Really cool ghost history behind the bar. Also the pumps are as old fashioned as they get for beer. They are slight gas assisted, but still neat to see the old fashioned way.
Staff is great and the drinks are reasonable. Enjoyed the part of my night here.
R. W.
Very friendly staff, very good food, really a nice place to stay.
A. C.
I loved this pub! We spoke to a man in the airport who claimed the pubs in Scotland are far better than the ones in Ireland, and, he was right. This pub is no exception. Very nice, clean and full of history. We loved Greyfriars Bobby. Yes, it's a tourist spot, but every bit worth seeing and stopping in. We got a few bites to eat and some drinks and the food was very good and the service was excellent!
b. s.
It was quite when I went in. Always a good place to eat and drink but can get very busy
A. D.
Amazing! Wonderful staff, lovely atmosphere and delicious food! Great selection of drinks. My husband and I are in Scotland for our honeymoon and after eating here one day, we came back the next day and ordered the same meal (garlic bread with cheese, stovvies, and vegetable scotch broth). I wish we had more time to try more items on the menu!
D. “. E.
Great pub, excellent food, staff very helpful, live act on in bar great night out 👍👍👍😁😁😁😁
F. G.
This pub was excellent and the food was good. We ordered Cullen Skink which was excellent.😀 My husband had Scottish cheddar macaroni cheese whilst I had pork & haggis sausages and mash. Unfortunately these main courses weren't so good in comparison which was disappointing 🙁 A great spot to wait for friends if going on the Music tour that starts at the Museum steps which is convenient.
D. H.
Lovely food, cosy atmosphere, reasonable prices
M. B.
I'm a lone traveller, so walking into bars and restaurants is always an unknown. Was seated immediately and in the seat I asked for, had the Stovie (which was amazing) and the staff were great. Lovely atmosphere, fab food, really impressed.
C. A.
Nice staff, easy going and chilled
W. R.
Absolutely love this place.Fabulous food and drinks.Staff attentive, great atmosphere and the building has character.Highly recommend!
J. C.
Nice pub bar and seating area.Usual single overworked waitress.
Spanish girl-very good.
We only had a light lunch but I had haggis which was well above average.Very smooth snaps and tatties.well done.
S. R.
This place was superb. Service was wonderful, staff very friendly. The Haggis was the best I've ever tasted!
W. T.
Really nice bar nice and friendly staff food was lovely really enjoyed it would recommend this to anyone who comes here
M. H.
Lovely staff nothing too much trouble. We had a lovely meal, I'm really fussy with my food, I was told not a problem what you ask far you will get and I did. One of the best pubs in Edinbrugh highly recommended.
J. N.
Really nice pub with good ambience. The food was pretty good - I would recommend the mixed grill, everything on the plate was great. I wasn't a fan of the fish and chips though, fish tasted fresh but the batter was too soggy on the inside which was off-putting, but the chips and minted pea mash was good.
M. A.
This was the first restaurant I went to on my first day in Edinburgh and after a long walking tour. My partner and I had their delicious pies, the steak pie and turkey pie. The pies were scrumptious! I’ve had lots of pies in the U.K. and these were definitely the best I’ve had so far. The crust is thicker than the typical pub pie crust and has a unique flavour on its own. My dog also enjoyed his time there - he had a great snoozle on their luscious rug while we had lunch!
w. c.
Fantastic meal and staff very friendly and make you welcome
A. M.
Beautiful pub, highly recommended
G. H.
Good food, reasonably priced, very friendly staff and good kids menu with colouring sheet enjoyed by our little one.
S. B.
The food was really good (baked salmon and the sesasonal salad with chicken) but the service today (Sunday, April 28th) was improvable. We waited some time to be seated (the restaurant was nearly empty), when we ordered sprite we got the information "No sprite!" but instead to say "We have Coke etc etc" we were told to look into the menu again. At the end we had to asked twice for other soft drinks. Our sparkling water came right after our order.
Funny enough the waitress had enough time to explain the menu to some fellows from her home country...
It is a nice old building with a rich history, but I doubt I bring my guests here again.
The prices are reasonable and cheers to the chef - keep on with the good job!!
C. E.
Busy during a Friday afternoon, but we still got a table. good drinks selection on tap. full of tourists, most of whom didn't understand how pubs actually work. nevertheless staff were attentive and friendly
L. A.
A warm welcoming bar with a good selection of drinks.
J. K. G.
History of Greyfriars Bobby impresses and led people in Edinburgh to love Dogs and experience the real relationship between mankind and pets🐶🐕🐩🐺

It was great, good food, lovely staff and tasty drinks. There inside is very nice and clean.
D. M.
Very friendly staff, they even ask if you want a double when ordering "grey goose" excellent.👍
M. B. W.
The pub is what I would class and cozy. Very friendly staff and the food was absolutly lovely!
D. B.
Amazing!! We're from California, USA and vacationing in Scotland and this was the best place we ate on the entire trip. The Balmoral Chicken with haggis was phenomenal!! Love the story about Greyfriars Bobby as well. Very heart warming story and worth checking out if you're in the area.
D. M.
Nice bar in tourist heart of the city can get very busy, worth booking a table in advance.
R. R.
An historic pub in Edinburgh's Old Town. Located in front of Greyfriars Kirk and adjacent to statue of the famous faithful dog. The bar is split into a dining area and bar area, though food is also available in the bar. There is a good selection of bar food favourites and drinks. Given its locztion thus is a busy and popular bar especially with tourists.
C. B.
After hearing the story of Bobbie the dog we felt we had to check out the restaurant/bar & I'm glad we did. The food was very good & the staff was exceptionally friendly. If you're visiting Edinburgh, definitely consider stopping in.
C. G.
Lovely pub, ideal for the odd few pints or a full meal. The choice of drinks was good and it's in a great location, just up the road from Edinburgh old town and also at the top of the street where the Museum of Scotland is. Greyfriars Bobby Statue is right outside the front doors, so there can be a lot of tourists outside at any one time, taking.photos. Would go in again next time I'm in Edinburgh.
M. M.
Visited for the first time 04/02 and i have to say i was disappointed. I ordered the haggis and pork sausages in a Yorkshire pudding .the presentation was fine however the sausages were on the burnt side and the yorkshire was cold. It was meant to come with onion gravy however there were definately no onions in mine !!
Very overpriced for what you actually get...wont be back !
K. G.
A lovely dog friendly bar with delicious food and a great atmosphere in the heart of a beautiful city.
j. a.
Been to Edinburgh many times and this was the first time eating here. The beers are plentiful and the pies are absolutely amazing! I had the chicken and chorizo which came with veggies and mashed potatoes. I can't wait to get back to try the other pores on the menu!
F. A.
Good food, nice place.
F. R.
Absolutely fantastic staff very friendly very relaxed atmosphere awesome food awesome beer many thanks
C. R.
I tried for the first time the haggis sausages in this place and it was really good. We were well served and quickly. Also, there is a great view to contemplate the famous Greyfriars Bobby's statue.
(Sorry I put 3 stars by mistake I change for 5, It was one of my best restaurant during my Edinburgh trip)
R. B. (.
Good place. Bit expensive for a pint but outside of that is was clean, staff were friendly and they got everything to you in a good time
R. C.
Nice bar lots choice off drinks available reasonably prices vert good night followed all the rules great bar staff
W. M.
Great experience yesterday. Came back expecting the same today. Very disappointed with our server Harriett who showed an active disinterest in serving us. Maybe a bad day for her or she may have chosen the wrong profession. The manager did his best to improve the situation but fell short.
EDIT: I believe that the first experience should have outweighed the difficulties we experienced on the second day and after consideration I am updating my rating. I hope that the staff at Greyfriars Bobby's Bar enjoy all the success in the world, and continue to provide the wonderful atmosphere we enjoyed on our visit to Edinburgh.
S. G.
Lively and lovely staff, good COVID precautions, nice bar on centre of Edinburgh
E. O. b.
Fantastic place, amazing story, highly recommend it
M. D.
Absolutely loved it there! Very central and cosy with great atmosphere to it.
Extra nice staff, decent selection of beers, wines and spirits.
I can't believe it took me 11 years of living in Edinburgh to finally visit.
D. S.
Nice Scottish pub. Decent selection of beers. I had a hearty stout from Bad Company (Dishforth, North Yorkshire) Dazed & Confused. The atmosphere was nice and so was the staff. The famous Greyfriars Bobby statue is just across the Candlemaker Row.
A. B.
Ok pub, very expensive. Definitely cashing in on the name
£5.50 pint of beer and £3 for half a coke. Rediculas
T. o.
Great place to eat and drink staff very friendly nice atmosphere to relax after day at Edinburgh zoo. Will go again
R. B. (. R.
Friendly, lively pub. We were made to feel very welcome and there's a good selection of beers.
C. T.
Warm friendly pub.. yummy haggis... friendly staff

Stopped here for dinner.
Nice historic feel to it, directly across from Greyfriars Bobby statue and next to the Greyfriars Kirk cemetery.
Inside the premises there was a understated tartan carpet and dark wood panelling around the walls. There was a separate dining area but I noticed that they did serve food in the lower bar area as it was very busy.
The service was prompt and drink order taken. Once we had looked at the menu for around 5-10 minutes the friendly server returned and took the food order.
We had the large vegetarian nachos to share as a starte served with sour cream, salsa, guacamole and to top it off jalapenos. I'm afraid that there was no heat in the jalapenos but as we were very hungry I let it go.
For mains my husband had the steak and ale pie with mash and cabbage/kale and chanteney carrots, this was completed with a small individual jug of gravy.
As I couldn't make up my mind which pie to have (Nicholson chain pubs are famous for their pies), I opted for the trio of mini pies. This consisted of a mini chicken balti, shepherds pie and a beef and ale pie all in a lovely individual pastry case with the same accompaniments and it was all very tasty. The pies and fillings were lovely and the pastry crust was nice and short.
We were both stuffed so no room for dessert or even coffee.
We were both fully satisfied on all counts and asked for the bill.
For what we had including 2 diet cokes the bill came to £41.80 which for Edinburgh is very reasonable.
D. S.
Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Decent selection of craft beer (bottles/cans only). Went there to try the haggis. Haggis itself was pretty good but the "neeps and tatties" (turnip and potato mash) was disappointing. The smoked salmon starter also left something to be desired.
L. M.
Beautiful historic pub and restaurant in old town Edinburgh.
C. P.
I enjoyed my stay here very much. The food was good and not overpriced, the staff was very friendly and fast. You can sit in- and outside. I can totally recommend this pub to everyone. The sticky toffee pudding was fantastic 😍
T. H.
Had to visit this place because I have always loved the film .so glad I did its great
L. J.
Nothing much to see but kind of amusing to learn about the story of Bobby the devoted dog, even though some said that the story is not true.
S. H.
Pleasant friendly service
Food great 👍😋
Recommend it
Touch of history as well

Friendly and helpful people worth a visit

Nice atmosphere. Great place to visit for food or just a resting place while sightseeing
T. (.
Great place to pop in for a pint on a rainy day.
J. B.
Great pub! Get the Haggis!
G. S.
Lovely place from a historic point of view. I can't really call it a bar because you are not allowed to order a pint stand and drink. Very nice staff but you can find the same food elsewhere on your journey.
A.
The story was of I remember properly that Bobby the dog (statue in front of pub) was walking his owner to pub every day and when owner died dog just sat and wait in front of pub till the day he died. People were so found of the dog they put his statue in front of the pub and legend is if you scratch his nose it will bring you luck. That is why the nose is so shiny. And it brought us luck. Meal in a pub was great, beer great and staff too
N. P.
Good range of drinks. Bar staff are great, friendly and always on the go.
T. N.
Great for a pint and tasty pub lunch. Don't forget to rub Bobby's nose.
E. A.
An historical landmark in this fine city. And an emotional, yet heart-warming tale to boot. Don't forget to visit the actual grave site just across the road from the statue. Ideally placed, just up from the Grass Market, across the road from the National Museum of Scotland and any number of fine eateries in the vicinity. Walking distance from Edinburgh Castle and about 15 minutes walk from Princess Street gardens.
B. M.
Great traditional pub.
J. F.
Love this bar in Edinburgh! It’s a fun and lively place to meet with a nice crowd. The servers are always nice and the location is perfect if you want to grab a pint and scroll around town.
B. A.
This place is one of the best places to grab some food in Edinburgh. The food was excellent, the servers and bar tenders were very nice and all for a great price. I definitely recommend.
P. S.
6 of us turned up at 7.30pm for a meal. There was a wait as tables could not be booked. We waited till 8.45pm whilst ha Bing drinks. The food was delicious and the staff were very good. Will certainly go back when we visit again.
C. P.
The best Cullen skunk, but I'm told the stovies weren't as a Scot remembered them. Tasted ok to me, but just brought it down from a 5 star. Service was great too!
H. B.
Really lovely food in a relaxed atmosphere under the current circumstances.
The staff were very friendly. Should we come back to Edinburgh again (hopefully) we will deffo be back x
S. O.
Great pub atmosphere which pays homage to a loyal dog. Fantastic British pies with meat and veggie options. Good service and not too much noise. And it's located near Greyfrairs Kirkland and the famous Elephant House.
S. “. M.
Brilliant pub fantastic food and ambience within the originality of the place well worth a visit
j. h.
Bar was nice. Food questionable. We all wanted the same roast and was told it was available. The waitress came out and said there were only two portions so two of us changed our order. The waitress then came back to tell us there was one portion!
A. G.
Lovely legend based on a true story.
C. R.
Great selection of Scottish ipa's. Hadn't realised this was a Nicholson's pub like the Conan Doyle. Both had decent menus but had already eaten when I visited. Really enjoyed the 80 shilling.
J. J.
Came here solely for Haggis.
Ordered Haggis Neeps & Tatties and was NOT disappointed.
Best Haggis E V E R.
J. M.
The best local food in Edinburgh. And if you would like to get traditional pies it's definitely your choice. Also I found traditional desert calls Cartachan only here. So I love this place 😀
A. S.
An iconic Edinburgh hero, as brave and loyal as any person. Bobby is said to have sat by the grave of his master for 14 years. He died in 1872 and was buried just inside the gate of Greyfriars Kirkyard, not far from John Gray's grave.
Not sure why some reviews on this landmark are of a restaurant. Its all about the dog.
Edit. So you sorted out the name and photos now reflect a bar 9 months after I did the review. Well done but you hadn't at the time of the review. Hope your service is quicker. I don't appreciate the response, better to have said nothing and bank the 5 stars.
c. j.
Fab staff , great little pub with a lovely heritage attached , been by lots of times glad we popped in the atmosphere is really nice , and the staff make sure everything is done safely x
C. C.
It is a pub full of character with little alcoves to move into with good seating outside to watch the buzz of Edinburgh. It serves good food too and of cause is synonymous with the legendary greyfriars Bobby who died aged 16 after visiting his masters grave every day for 14 years and the dogs statue and plaque is right outside it was a privilege coming here.
A. D.
Staff are friendly. Food is nice. A little bit pricey but location is perfect.
B. D.
Went in on friday 30th may 2019.it was busy about 3pm there was 4 adults had a mixture of meals burgers ,ocean fish (different fish) and 3 deserts a couple of cokes 2 pints of tenants and a lime and soda total about £95 quid. Food was good service was spot on i dont know the guys name but he couldnt do enough for us made to feel very welcome and wasnt rushed etc .if in edinburgh i would defo return with the family.
D. C.
Looks a little tired in and out the food is good value was under staffed and they served my main and starter at the same time claiming I had requested it a conversation we never had
M. K.
Food was luke warm. Asked about coffee (impressive espresso machine) after our two course meal but waiter asked the supervisor who said they weren’t doing coffee. Was around 6pm, so a bit weird.
I. M.
Lovely typical pub. Shame that the kitchen closed early as the pies looked lush.
V. B.
Lovely staff. A very warm and welcoming pub. Great service and very helpful. Asked for the Mac and cheese as a side which was beautiful and full of flavor. Roast dinner was filling and tasty.
D. S.
Everything was great, would absolutely return. Was my first experience with Haggis, taties and neeps, and I loved it! Nice atmosphere, we sat in the bar, so a bit "self service" which was fine, and quick.
C. G.
Great atmosphere, wonderful service, fab food and not too busy on a Tuesday night. Enjoyed the varied music selection too. Will deffo be going back when next in town.
F. W.
Good pub food and great service. It is a touristy place but the haggis and breaded brie were quite good. Service was very friendly as well.
Do try the chocolate cheescake, it's the perfect balance between salty and sweet.
M. M.
Very popular pub with a dining area. The place was packed but the servers managed to get us a table after a short wait. The menu is mostly traditional Scottish pub food and it was delicious and well priced!
R. H.
Very nice bar with good menu. Friendly service. Good surroundings.
I. F.
A statue to honour the dog that stood by his owner's grave for 12 years or so. Touch his nose for luck. You'll see the nose is shiny where people come up and rub it. Inside the graveyard there lies the dog's grave also.
T. D.
Great food and service would not go hungry eating here portions large. Staff very polite and good prices too.
M. F.
Great place..staff very friendly and attentive..food was amazing great value for money.. as in portion size and hot. I had the crofters pie was one of the tastiest things ive eaten. Will be back

Nice place, quite, excellent food and staff kind :)

This pub has a very nice selection of food that is suited to as I would say a wide range of people I would recommend visiting this pub! You would not be disappointed in anyway, great atmosphere and amazing staff members that are very eager to make you welcome, I will say the great thing is that is if their dinning room is full that you don’t have to go hunger as they have a bar section that also does food which is the full menu

Amazing Fish & Chips 👍

Bigger on the inside, reasonable drink prices, what I saw on the menu regarding pies has enticed me to come back another day to try out one or two pies. Service is friendly and attentive.

Charming little pub for tired travelers to rest their feet and enjoy a beer or two.

Busy bar in heart of Edinburgh, lovely food and refreshments set at normal city centre prices. Staff busy, but still had time to pass the time of day with their customers. Will be back when back in Edinburgh.

This statue celebrates a dog named Bobby. He was owned by a man named John Gray. According to legend the dog remained at his owners grave from 14 years until his own death in 1872. As he had no living owner, his license was paid for by a local Lord. A short time after the dog's death the statue was commissioned for the most loyal dog in Scotland.

Good pub near the Royal Mile. Was not too busy around 4 but later got really packed. The bar lady didn't put fresh thyme in my fancy and $$ Gin and tonic.

Always come here when visiting Edinburgh. Great location. Fair prices for both drinks and food. Have had the burger twice and it's just delicious. The place has a nice homely atmosphere and the staff are also very attentive!

Cosy and lively atmopshere - somehow a must-try in Edinburgh with a good mixture of locals and tourist. Service so and so. Meals okay, however not outstanding - small portions and definitely had better Haggis on our tour through Scotland.

Staff were friendly. The food was good, though disappointed there was no fish pie as I was really looking forward to it
B. S.
Brilliant old classic pub and a great pint 🍺👌🏻
J. M.
Pub has wooden features and traditional chesterfield style seats, but looks quite bright and modern with a chain style. I didn't try the food but it looked great.

Excellent service. Pork & Haggis Sausages were excellent as was the Macaroni Cheese with Garlic bread. Would definitely recommend it & would definitely return the next time I am in Edinburgh.

Busy pub. Meal was pleasant and a nice pint. The staff were obviously used to the numbers, and really efficient and professional, we were called when a table became available. Would recommend.

Here I tried haggis for the first time despite some fears. Loved the tasty generous meal

Lovely pub with a lot of history near the grey friars bobby statue

After their refurb I popped in to see what was new. The downstairs cosy former "drinks only" has been transformed into a nice little eatery. Noticed a lot of power plugs with USBs scattered around so you could plug in a laptop or smart phone or tablet.
And it's now dog-friendly, which is a welcome change to previous policy.
But you can't get past the sheer number of (mostly American) tourists in the place. As a local, it's a turn off...the volume of conversation is deafening...but it IS in a high tourist area so I suppose it's no surprise. It's a cheerful place though, and the food is pretty good. There are several very good Scottish beer options on draught, so I was incredibly offended when the young American couple next to me ordered Budweisers...in a bottle. Sheesh.

Lovely bar and staff was fantastic. Great place to enjoy a wee drink or bite to eat when visiting Edinburgh. Reasonable priced bar for the area.
G. M.
Love this pub and always go for a mooch after a pint in the grave yard.

Typical food, tasty and not expensive

This is a really lovely little pub with an amazing selection of whisky.

The food is ok but service is not good enough for such an historic place like it is!
Real shame....let’s see what will happen now when crisi comes.

Talking about extraordinary little fellow! The cute bitter-sweet story of Bobby known all around the world is one of loyalty and patience of a dog's heart. So you absolutly must see the statue if that hits your soft spot ;) As I learned from the local guide ONE MUST NOT RUB THE STATUE'S NOSE - that's a habit that originated here just a few years back and it's actually hurting the statue :)
P. G.
Nice food and friendly atmosphere! Recommended! 😊
G. B.
Nice place, I had the roast which was nice however all the vegetables were deep fried and not roasted which I don't fancy that much. Staff were attentive and friendly.
C. P.

I've enjoyed dinner with a book, salad macaroni dish and the raspberry desert. Good service and food and interior. The prices are a bit higher than average but it's worth it.

Lovely place! A must see and a must try.

We were with an international group of 10 people. The atmosphere is very relaxed. The story of Bobby makes it more special. The food is fine.
H. V.
Lovely old world feel, lovely story about the dog Bobby. Great whiskey choices
T. I.
A really cosy, warm pub. A great selection of spirits, soft and hot drinks and food. A couple of the ale taps were off for cleaning which was a little disappointing, but not the end of the world :) great fries and polite bar staff!
Z. V.
not bad, good food, many tourists

A very nice, friendly pub with a good range of drinks and bar food. Very good for any visits to the National Museums if Scotland (across the road) and remember to pat the statue of Bobby on the head as you go by!

Nice to look at and with a heartwarming history/ legend. Recommend to visit in the morning or evening die to the crowd around the day. Can be combined with the harry potter trail which starts there. Just beide is britain most haunted graveyard with lots of graves which Inspired JK rowling during the writing of Harry Potter

This place made our day. Thanks.

Exactly as you'd expect it to be, a statue of Greyfriars Bobby.
b. w.
Friendly service, had club sandwich (comes with a whole chicken breast), double burger with cheese & onions, steak&ale pie (comes with lots of kale), for dessert sticky toffee cake and a Cranachan, obviously it reduces the wait before or after the lunch rush, overall we enjoyed our stay, prices are reasonable considering the location and audience
W. W.
Went for a relaxed meal of pub food and a few drinks. Friendly and attentive staff but nit overbearing. Food was better than expexted for a pub meal and couldnt fault the drinks. Busy atmosphere but didnt feel over crowded. I will recommend this pub to anyone visiting edinburgh.
J. H.
Very busy evening so had to wait a bit. When we were seated food was quick and was really nice! Staff were friendly but looked a little overworked.
L. M.
Interesting history of this pup. He was dedicated for is loyalty to his owner, and even after the owner died, he stayed at his owners grave during rain or shine. The townsfolk was so inspired by Bobbys dedication to his owner they build a little house next to his owners grave so he could survive the harsh winters. Another interesting fact about bobby is that he ended up receiving the right to vote in the towns picking affairs, meaning this little dog received the right to vote before women did!
L. S.
Lovely place although bar staff appeared to be inexperienced.
G. M.
Great food, staff were excellent and welcoming

I didn't know this place was so famous, but i liked both kind staff and the food and beer, but Haggis is not easy for foreigners to eat.
L. B.
Just love Bobby's bar. Lovely atmosphere friendly bar staff. Didn't eat but menu looked good.
W. H. H.
Super nice and authentic pub! Really good ales and serviceminded and sweet staff!! Try out the place, you won't regret it!!! 🍻👍

We were visitors from Canada to Edinburgh and I had always loved the story of wee Bobby. Excellent food and superb service. Our server was from Hamilton ON!! I would recommend 100%!!!
D. C.
Nice wee statue. Please don't touch his nose though, it's causing damage and the "luck" thing is really recent and was never anything to do with the Bobby story.
Plus people are disgusting, do you really want to touch a thing that's had thousands of other fingers on it?
m. g.
Friendly staff good food and plenty of drinks to choose from good atmosphere
G. A.
Bit of a dump capitalising on it's position beside a major tourist attraction. Walking a few hundred yards either way gives a wider choice of good value and attractive drink nd eating places.
