Reviews of Malones Edinburgh
F. W.
We came here for toilet, but K just figured there has live band playing…
Nice pub for having pint and watching games
Great selection of beers, drinks and food , good looking bar, kind and friendly staffs. Highly recommended if you want to have a relax night with some live band, here is an extremely great choice.
B. K.
Great atmosphere, good Guinness, staff are great craic. Nice screens for sport. Live music and opens late.
G. B.
Nice wee pub. Bar staff are nice. Popped in for a Liverpool game, great atmosphere. Good selection of Irish drinks, be nice to see some craft beer choices though.
I'd certainly go back for another football game.
D. B.
Very chatty customers , feels welcoming and lively , nice atmosphere and fantastic "straight to the glass " tennents, never tasted anything like it .
d. g.
Great atmosphere on the day I was there (old firm) place was rocking good selection of drinks ?bar staff quick to get every one served
A. B.
I didn't realise there was an upstairs bar at Malones. Lots of big screens and seats to watch football and rugby. Great pub!
P. M.
Great atmosphere, great beer, very busy, but still a great atmosphere. Recommend highly.
C. F.
Music is very noisy. Not somewhere for a quiet drink as there are football games/ sports played on TV here. There is a lot of seating but it's still quite busy, especially at peek drinking times. There is outdoor seating for smoker's, with a canopy so you don't get soaked which I thought was great.
I wouldn't call this place expensive in regards to the price of alcohol in the capital city. I think all bars/ clubs in Edinburgh are overpriced.
The outdoor seating is not solely for smokers, ur just so happened to be reading so it was only smokers outside at that present time. Many other times, on a sunny day it looks really pleasant to sit outside and enjoy a beverage alcoholic or not. You cam just order a coffee here, however, I wouldn't recommend if that's what you'd liked to do then here's probably not the best place to but you can.
I think the crowd Malones attracts now is different under the previous management (Diane's pool hall). As I am no pool fan I didn't frequent this venue previously. I would return here but it would probably be better in a group of friends, rather than just two people. My expectations were it would be more Male orientated than it was. It was a great mix of people; males, females, under 25s, over 50s, tourists also.
The noise level is the only reason I would be inclined not to come here in the evening, or when there's sports on. It's lovely when the sun is out and sitting outside with a refreshing drink.
I'm sure there's an upper level, although I've never ventured that far, probably should. Although someone told me they serve food upstairs? I can't be certain, however, I certainly haven't saw food downstairs. Also I've not used their toilet facilities yest shl can't comment on that.
Overall it was pleasant, friendly staff, fairly quick service considering how busy it was, not over priced, quirky interior, outdoor seating is always a bonus for me. I couldn't spend a whole evening here, after 2 or 3 drinks the noise is too much. Great to check it out now it's under new management.
M. R.
The food is banging. The portions are huge and well worth the money. I would tell anyone to visit this pub because it's a good place to chill out/vibe to eat, watch sports etc
R. O.
Nice pub for having a pint and watching a game.
Loud music though and they allow you to order Uber Eats
T. B.
Came to Edinburgh for my Birthday and spotted this pub just opposite the hotel I was staying at.
Its fair to say that it was one of the best nights I have ever had. Band called The Guiness Brothers were playing and it was a great atmosphere, certainly come back on next visit!
j. l.
A proper pub in the haymarket good ales and nice friendly bar staff. if you walk upstairs to the 2nd bar there's a picture of a sheep on the right he's called chris
R. D.
Great food. Great atmosphere. Good value for money
R. W.
It is a great pub....grear atmosphere..however was absolutely gobsmacked when the staff told me that football was being showed in the spacious upstairs and the Rugby 6 nations was bening shown downstairs on the smaller screens.......Ridiculous...considering this was the 6 nations international i simply could not believe it.
R.
Great time upstairs. Busy pub but served quickly. Compliments to the staff. Area booked for a small group. Great atmosphere.
A. C.
Great place to watch the rugby. Live music always ensures a lively atmosphere and the staff are really friendly. The downstairs bar is cosy with authentic traditional Irish pub decor. Upstairs is much bigger and mixes the old and new in terms of decor with a big stage, lots of TV's and some fun reading in the toilets! They also have a huge Fr Ted painting in the stairs. Must visit!!
R. C.
Amazing atmosphere, class to watch the sport and live music afterwords. Best pint of Guiness in Edinburgh!
K. C.

p. b.
Proper pub good selection of beers and great food though kitchen closed on a Tuesday lunchtime
p. b.
Great atmosphere, toilet wallpaper ISA good read
D. H.
We had both lunch and dinner at this pub. The selection for food was limited, but it was extremely tasty. Their fish and chips was top notch and the beef and Guinness stew was very good as well. One of the bartenders was also very helpful with ideas of what to do and see in the city.
K. F.
Good atmosphere on a late Friday night 😊
J. M.

P. C.
Great atmosphere, very friendly staff and a good selection of drinks, like your local in the heart of the city.
S. T.
Superb atmosphere, food excellent would recommend fish and chips. Eat here two nights in a row, going to come back for more.
C. W.
Dropped in with a few guys from work just before Christmas, really good, very clean and excellent staff.
T.
Good place, 2 bars so never wanting for a drink
e. “. V. I.
This pub is situated a short walk from Haymarket Station and is a very lively pub. Walking past you can hear live bands playing, our pop favourites from 90's (what I mainly heard), the pub has a upper floor (although closed at the time of visiting). The pub has a selection of beers, IPAs and Craft largers and is pretty nice.
This pub shows sports with the two massive screens.
A. H. M.
Loved it! Best fries I've had in a long time. The halloumi & grilled veggie sandwich was excellent. Great atmosphere too!
B. H.
It's a nice pub Irish music is downstairs but could do with also having lrish music upstairs food is lovley.
D. S.
Great atmosphere and Guinness was spot on. Will be back.
P. C.
Nice pub, great upstairs bar with plenty of TV's, we were able to watch Irish Football games, nice service and very enjoyable.
V. R.
Great atmosphere and friendly staff - live music is a bonus
B. S.
Great bar and excellent service!
If its a bar with a good atmosphere and to watch sport that you want this is the best in Edinburgh. You won't be disappointed it is a Top Class Bar.
O. K.
Great people. Great atmosphere. Definitely worth popping in for a pint
P. B.
Average at best. Cold and uncomfortable. I think 3 stars is generous
R. S.
Very nice Pub 👍👍
First Floor watching Sport ⚽️ TV 📺
Underground listen Live Music 🎸🥁
L. C.
Very nice place Near bus and train station with live music. Well decorated and confortable. Ideal for to listen live music and enjoy with friends
k. o.
Whent for a job interview Neil was very nice 👍.
M. K.
Great pub and the band was good to
A. A.
Love it! The Irish people are so nice- they definitely know how to make a hot whiskey for the cold and music!
S. T.
Great atmosphere whilst watching F1
D. E.
Lively buzzing live band kind of place... Definitely for the younger ones
T. B.
Excellent pint of Guinness great atmosphere
D. S.
Only bar in Haymarket open after 11pm on a Sunday.
J. H.
Had.nice time sitting in the sun having a wee swally
C. B.
Top craic...then Celtic scored in the 5th minute of added time and the place properly erupted!
Z. E.
Great place, staff are fantastic, drinks are great food is great all round a good place to be 😊 byo sunscreen if the big yellow thing in the sky is out.
S. M.
Decent selection of beers and upstairs offers tv for watching games whilst in town. Food is good for a pub and staff friendly and helpful. Would come back again. Was not here for the live music but can imagine it is buzzing on nights they do!
G. M.
Only had a couple of drinks but warm friendly atmosphere.
S. A.
Great place but overly expensive
P. C.
Great pub would like a wee Scottish or Irish breakfast can't wait to live music again hopefully would love to see and hear the wee Scottish band The Dazes they are are a an amazing twosome
N. A.
We had our staff Christmas drinks here. Great service from barman 'wee Johnny'. Lively atmosphere with a mixed crowd. Huge upstairs bar as well with band playing in evening. Easy transport links especially for getting back to Glasgow.
C. E.
Very poor selection of non-alcoholic drinks and the ladies toilet is up 3 flights of stairs but the garlic fries are top notch.
S. D.
What a transformation. I admit I never ventured in to the pool hall but was very happy with what I found on my first visit to Malones. The interior especially upstairs is great with wooden floors and exposed beams. Staff were very attentive and the live music excellent. We were a party and had several very tasty platters. Would definitely visit again.
J. W.
Brilliant live music, maybe a tad loud but of a consistently high standard. Friendly staff who in general serve with relative efficiency. Drinks are a bit pricey but the quality of toilet wallpaper makes up for that
A. P.
Fantastic atmosphere, great beer!
S. B.
Went for the Edinburgh Wolves Superbowl party. Atmosphere was great, food was good.
M. N.
Nice pub, downstairs a easy going pub.
Upstairs is more busy and has a podium for a band. Was ther on st patricks day and had a blast. Highly recomend going there. Fun for both scotisch/english/irisch and from other countrys. Very welcoming people.
R. W.
Visited for a drink while on holiday . Great service friendly staff thank you
R. H.
One of best places in Edinburgh for Heineken,. A busy and enjoyable venue at the weekend, great for watching sports
a. g.
Sticky floors. But drinks were cheap and cheerful. Door men were funny.
B. M.
I found this place was broadcasting the 2018 AFL Grand Final, so I decided to attend at 5am in the morning. They had managed to get a license to serve alcohol so this was a bonus. Great atmosphere. Great game. Do recommend.
P. H.
Great bar with good prices. Guinness is stunning 😍
B. B.
I went to see some free music here for the Fringe.
The staff were lovely and the musicians were talented.
The place is quite dark and dingy looking which I know some people enjoy in a pub.
With regards to food. I felt it was a little pricey for what you got. It took a fair bit a time for pub food I waited about 40 mins for a burger and some chips and was a tad disappointed when I received it.
F. I. P.
Great Irish pub. Had a whiskey night and wasn't disappointed.
M.
Live musicians and great atmosphere
J. S.
I visited here in August, so the outdoor bar was packed. I like how it is located right next to the train station. It's a great spot and I would return if I'm ever in Edinburgh again. The live music was the best part! I believe Scott McWatt played there when I visited. Go Malones!
J. H.
It's a large venue but always manages to get packed. I have been frustrated with the wait to get a drink at the bar here before. I do like the atmosphere, especially when they have live music, I also like how it's split onto two levels with the seating at the top, looking down onto the dance floor. I have had some really memorable nights here but I think it was more down to the people I met rather than the venue.
A. G.
I had a very enjoyable few hours with a few of my friends on Saturday afternoon. The service at the bar was first class, bearing in mind it was a rugby weekend. Keep up the good work. ANDY.
K. C.
Very lively spot not far from haymarket station
G. D.
The food was delicious, and the two gentlemen working when we stopped in around noon today were fantastic. It was a little show, so they took the time to talk about whisk(e)y and beer with us, as well as a bit about themselves.
2. s. p.
Great atmosphere and the food was lovely
A. R.
A great aesthetic and was very big and open. The night I was there it was full of individuals looking for a fight. However, during the day it is excellent. The food was very good.
S.
Super fun. Nice and spacious. Live music is always a winner
K. Y.
A great place to watch the sport. Good selection of beers and great quality food as well.
M. P.
Fantastic place friendly staff and a great atmosphere
D. M.
Gotta say, I hate a lot of pubs, but this I just dislike. Mostly due to the price and limited selection of booze. The aside, it's jot a bad place. Especially if sport is your thing, plenty of screens upstairs. More Oirish than a yank on paddy's day though.
E. F.
A traditional Irish Pub - Malones is the perfect spot for a drink with friends. The staff are friendly and up for some banter. There is live music which is normally uplifting and really adds to your night. There are plenty of seats over two floors perfect for whether you want to be close to the music and dancing or a bit away from the rabble.
Malones is a good night out where you can really have a good time.
S. B.
Fab atmosphere, banging tunes
C. P.
Awesome local pub with live music and friendly staff
D. A.
Great atmosphere, fab music, coffee and gin. Barman could've cracked a smile and needed told 3 times an order of 3 drinks despite bar not being very busy
T. S.
Lots of fun and good music!
G. W.
Called in on way to hotel great bar
A. H.
Very friendly pub with seating both indoor and a small amount outdoor. The price of drinks is what you would expect to pay in Edinburgh so can't fault it there.
D. L.
Class boozer 5mins walk from haymarket Station. Food was tasty and service top notch
J. E.
Usually pretty busy, though worth a visit if you can squeeze in. Good atmosphere for rugby games and live music on occasion too.
H. D. K.
The best Irish pub in Edinburgh hands down. The place is authentic and you get the feeling that these people are honestly trying for you to have an amazing experience. Very professional stuff, always willing to help. The father Ted theme corridor is a plus and it honestly lightens up the mood. There are also plenty of events organised, with live music and trad tunes over the weekends. In my opinion, this is a very good effort and you could have your pint of the black medicine in a very Irish and authentic atmosphere. Good job!!! Will definitely visit again and again!!
L. R.
It's a pub with a solid atmosphere, nice staff and well priced food. Not sure if they do it every day but when we were there they moved all the tables out the way and we're doing some traditional dancing to live music which was pretty cool. I'd recommend going for a couple but it'd be expensive to get pissed there.
A. W.
Malones Irish bar does what it says on the tin. With loads of screens it's a particularly great place to watch sport. If you are watching a 6 nations game (or the upcoming world cup matches) I would suggest getting there early as the place is always filled to the rafters for these. They do live music most evenings and the bands at the weekend will have you dancing away and making new friends on the dance floor. Reasonably priced drinks and good standard pub grub fare food.
A. C.
Fish and chips was huge and delicious. However, it wasn't a particularly good value and took longer than expected, given we were the only table sat.
Waitstaff were pleasant.
R. A.
Good atmosphere, friendly staff, live music some night's. Good screens upstairs for watching the football.
Shame there is no selection of real ale and the food when I tried it was lacklustre although it was a very busy football night.
A. C.
Great atmosphere and service
B. D.
Pretty average Irish bar, nothing special here at all. The drinks were fine, as were the prices. The staff were pretty friendly and did a good job, but the large space and dull music meant it was a bit tame
A. R.
For a lively Friday or Saturday night with lots of live music, everyone's favourite tunes and great craic then this is the best place in Edinburgh. You're always guaranteed to have a fun night - it's always packed out at the weekend with people of all ages having a good time. The food menu is actually really good as well - it's pub food but you can tell the chef really cares about the quality.
D. D.
Cozy, warm and well decorated. Simple and tasty menu to keep you inside and drinking. Staff are the right combination of helpful and humorous.
J. Q.
Very nice bar, good to watch sports and also had live entertainment on which had the bar singing along. Staff very friendly and good service.
P. C.
Great food and great service! I am a big fan of Rekorderlig cider and they had a variety that I had never tried before (Passion fruit)... It was delicious. Perfect for afterwork drinks or an informal dinner with friends.
I. L.
Too crowded and no-one was wearing a mask. But a nice place nonetheless
Z. H.
Stopped in for a coffee. Lovely warm and friendly staff, coffee was hot, smooth and full of flavour
B. C.
Got to give it to these guysthis is one of the best bars i have visited in the cityit may be my 130th !-yes but believe me you seriously need to pop in here -the atmosphere is superb the staff are excellent and the beerwell it beer !--fair prices all round 5 *
J. B.
Great Craic! Staff didn’t understand that ´Glass of Guinness’ means only a half pint. So sadly not true Irish staff. All the same, great night but bad hangover
G. G.
Renovated Jan 2018, nice decor, friendly staff, food looked decent, crazy selection of Irish whiskey, live music, sport and one of two tank breweries in Scotland with that largest tanks in malones- unpasteurised beer fresh from the brewery
f. S.
Great place friendly
W. S.
An amazing pop up venue for drinks. Outdoors but with rain protection, on waverley roof, with a stunning view of edinburgh. Rail station 30 secs away. Airport bus 30 secs away, and run by friendly staff.
T. P.
Really nice atmosphere. Liked the large Hall on the second floor. Unfortunately didn't make it to the live music.
s. l.
Nice place, drinks very expensive
G. P.
Irish-themed pub with large upstairs room where they sometimes have live music. The best thing about it is the funny newspaper stories that line the walls in the gents.
K. A.
Fantastic night out, live band was amazing
A. Y.
Good local pub with great service.
A. C.
The most new eve ever thanks guys!
E. Z.
A fresh taste of Irish hospitality! The pub is huge, but it's often pretty crowded! Great live music nights!
P. D. L. N.
Went there for a couple of drinks, even though bar staff are good they can be over-worked considering that the bar bench is very long and they can get almost mobbed by noisy & very lively punters. Good place to watch rugby though.
L. M.
This is a massive Irish bar, always full when there's sports events or St Paddy's day of course! It can be tricky to chat to people with loud music sometimes. When it's quiet it feels REALLY quiet because of it's size.
I. R.
Not a great beer selection really , just standard stuff but .. the staff are brilliant and helpful and the atmosphere is friendly and fun .. very popular with the younger crowd 😊
D. J. M.
Really enjoyed this Bar.... Fine Service.. Diligent staff... Great beers...
S. M.
Always a good atmosphere
p. s. o.
Great pub and good food on the menu
A. Y.
Nice atmosphere staff friendly
S. B.
Great pint of Guinness
D. C.
Good ambiance and very good for live music.
Positives:
+Live Music everyday of the week
+Beautiful atrium
+Always busy
Minus:
-Standard choice of beers
-Quite expensive for standard drinks
-Average food
C. S.
Bar man was Irish himself and taught me well about Guinness and the venus is pretty decent with stage upstairs
J. P.
Although this is an independent bar with only 4 pubs, it looks like a formulaic Irish theme bar chain. They need something extra in order to distance themselves from the tourist pubs. So far, they don't.
К. Д.
Great place for a drink with friends. Cool decor and good atmosphere. Definitely recommend.
S. A.
The staff are great.. Good pints, good venue...
C. S.
Great place to hang out and have some drinks and food. The area got extended, more live music, more bars, more food. It's like a little festival village! I'll be back...
S. R.
Great atmosphere. Great Friday afternoon sesh 🍻
C. S.
Good bar
P. M.
Good time.. live music okay.. the wannabe Liam Gallagher should have quit before he was behind, but hey he was a punter!

Great atmosphere with live music can get a bit crowded but we managed to get a table, definitely worth a visit if in Edinburgh
M. A.
They have done the place up really really nice.
But the price of 2 drinks was just shy of £10..
D. T.
Faux Irish pub, reasonable pint of Guinness, Tayto crisps add authenticity, but the pogues on repeat will do your head in. I prefer the real thing in Temple Bar.
G. A.
Glad to be back! Had a cracking night with music and football! Nice to feel alive again after lockdown.

C. B.
Great place for beer and snacks
M. J.
Great little Irish pub, good selection of beers and whiskeys. Apparently some live entertainment on some evenings, but not on this occasion.
C.
Cozy bar with a good selection of beer, expensive but not surprising given the location, the next choice of near station pubs.
M. R.
Great pub with an Irish touch in Scotland. Nice atmosphere and sports entertainment on large screens.

Popular student hang out, and it's a bit gritty and dated, but can be quite lively. Live music venue and big screen sports.
