Reviews of St. Vincent Bar AKA "The Vinnie"
H. B.
Really enjoy this bar just off one of the best mews allys in Britain. Nicely decorated and light particularly for the semi basement bar. Staff are friendly and is excellently situated.
A. B.
Recently changed management but the atmosphere remains the same as it has been for many years, a snug little bar with a good variety of beer, cider and spirits. Friendly staff. If you are hungry they serve a charcuterie or cheese board, provided by local businesses. Always busy, always a relaxing place for a pint.
L. S.
Amazing beers and dog friendly (really).
Don't forget to check their special craft beers menu!
K. E.
This is our local and we love. I love the fact that they have kept the option to book a table for two hour slot and hope they keep that going long term. On our most recent visit we had their cheese and charcuterie boards and they were super!! Very highly recommend
P. M.
One of the best nights I've had in Edinburgh! We spent the night sat at the bar, served by an incredibly kind and entertaining Texan. We had a fantastic evening, strongly recommended.
C. G.
This pub is like the TARDIS it appears tiny from outside being in a cellar but is surprisingly roomy inside. Good snacks and excellent choice of drinks. Both the staff and customers are friendly and you feel very quickly at home.
S. H.
Lovely atmosphere and great beers. Friendly staff but the charcuterie board was a disappointment. Thank you.
J. L.
Such a picturesque place! Friendly staff.
A. P.
Tucked away in one of the city's prettiest parts. Lots of drinks to explore after a day in New Town
R. M.
Came all the way from London and ordered a Beavertown. I apologise.
J. N.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff & top beer!
a.
Nice and cosy, barman was very nice. Good wee place to drop in for a drink. Music was good for a while then the Christmas music came on.
J. W.
A nice little basement bar wuth some ourtside seating in a nice part of the old town with lovely little cobbled streets nearby. Worth a visit.
T. N.
Bustling lively local pub. Small heated outdoor area with service via a hatch. 👍
J. O. C.
One of our favorite spots for a drink. A perfect traditional local. Cheerful staff and great selection of drinks.
D. W.
Lovely staff, great ambiance, very mediocre beer. This place has been through many permutations since it was my local ten years ago, but it's hard to rate its current incarnation as highly as I would like, given the state of its drink list.
On my last visit they had only one option that could reasonably be described as real ale (a pleasant but unremarkable bitter), one more that could be described as craft beer (some sort of new world IPA) and then nothing but fizzy lagers of various descriptions.
It's quite a shame, as the staff are truly brilliant and the space is amazing a dark, sunken, Victorian drinking hole with windows onto street level, in the heart of the New Town but unless you think Whetherspoons is some sort of real ale cornucopia, you will likely be disappointed with the lackluster pint that lands before you.
O. S.
Really nice place, very friendly!
C. H.
Brilliant! I'd been hesitant to go in but was convinced and it's a favourite now. Amazing selection of drinks, super friendly bar staff who recommended great drinks. Sat outside on their steps to enjoy the sun. Great vibe, great people, great bar.
J. L.
Nice spot, caters for the New Town rich though, so be warned of young toffs barging about the place. Good amount of cask beer, and good gluten free beer options too
P. P.
Super little pub. Great atmosphere, lovely staff and well looked after draft beers. What more could you want?
J. E.
Nice little pub with a good atmosphere
B. S.
Really nice bar, a little bit off the beaten path. Good selection of drinks, welcoming staff, and dug friendly. Will be back.
N. H.
Dog friendly, good old pub
A.
Great wee Bar , great atmosphere in the evenings ! Lovely Spanish Barman with a wicked sense of Humour . Dogs very Welcome 🐒
P. S.
Nice collection of beers!
Atmosphere is great. So come early or make a reservation to guarantee sitting!
M. (.
A great cosy pub with very friendly staff and an awesome selection of craft beers and whiskeys. Excellent.
D. R.
Great service, atmosphere and range of whisky
d. f.
Lovely local pub with a short selection of extraordinary organic meat burgers and hand cut chips and fries. Lovely location too. Update: We went back for dinner, two different burgers and chips. The burger is undoubtedly one of the best in Edinburgh and the home cut chips were just perfect, so light they didn't seem fried. I added another star coz I couldn't ask more from a traditional pub: nice atmosphere, good ales and amazing burgers.
I. d.
Has to be one of the best pub around here with a lovely interior and a proper pub feel. Highly recommended !
C. P.
Real nice corner bar near the Stockbridge Market. We stopped on a Sunday and the bar tender was very nice. Just had a gin and tonic, and boyfriend had a beer. Sat outside. It was relaxing and pleasant, . Lots of birds chirping, people walking dogs, etc.
D. M.
Great traditional bar. Good selection of beers and spirits...and wine. Also great bar food. Can highly recommend their home made burgers.. Cosy, friendly atmosphere whether with a crowd or just on your own. Also allow dogs...
S. Y.
Something has changed and now there is a shape again in the Vinny.
Now serving food, the burgers are pretty good with fantastic portion sizes. Good selection of beers and even bar snacks!
The milkshakes, as part of the food menu, looked great with such a generous portion of ice cream in each order. Highly recommend and we'll definitely be back for more.
J. D.
Staff really friendly plus very welcoming of dogs 🐕
R. B.
Had a few pints here at the end of a long day of 'touristing'. Really nice traditional pub with a good selection of beers and friendly staff. Seems like a good crowd gathers there too - ended up chatting with a few locals and other travellers. Didn't get to experience it, but seems like they have sing along sessions in there too, as there were several instruments on top of an upright piano in the corner, which is a great touch to a boozer (I did tune the ukulele though!). Highly recommended if you're that side of the city.
L.
I've always found the St Vincent to be an anomaly. At certain times of the day there's only regulars drinking, and both they and the staff have a tendency to make you feel a bit unwelcome.
Go at a different time of day, and the place will be full, the regulars relegated to the corner of the bar, and the main body of the pub will be full of chatter from people from all over the surrounding neighbourhoods.
There's not a huge selection of drinks available, but if you're into ales and continental lager you should be fine.
The decor is interesting, it's dog-friendly (always a bonus as far I'm concerned) and they serve fantastic burgers. They actually run the kitchen as a separate entity, delivering gourmet burgers to your door via Deliveroo, under the guise of Feed. I can heartily recommend the burgers. The pub itself I'm not so sure about.
T. A. Z.
Great staff, friendly, helpful and not in your way. Excellent pints at perfect cellar temperature. Devine food, sometimes a bit loud during sports events but it adds to the pub atmosphere. Cherry on the cake, it is dog friendly!!
E. H.
A great idea to open the hatch and provide an option to staying in. Dress up warm and keep moving! Thanks to all staff for providing a civilised friendly and safe option through lock down 1 and 2.
J. H.
Nice wee local Edinburgh New Town pub. Well of the beaten track so not a place to find lots of tourists. OK I wandered in courtesy of my local guide a former resident of the area so a bit of a tourist as part of my 70th birthday pub crawl. Walked 6 miles at this stop but well worth the hike. Enjoy.
G. M.
Good choice of beers, not crowded, staff pleasant. But, you need a better choice of soft drinks for kids and non drinkers. There was no mineral water available, neither still not sparkling. Nor were any fruit juices, Appletise, J2Os or similar available. Just unhealthy fizzy drinks like Coke and Sprite were on sale.
I. A.
Really cute bar, in a picturesque location and a quaint garden. Good beers on tap.
M. C. (.
Cool little bar in very pretty part of town.
Nice outdoor seating too.
C. A.
An excellent pub in a lovely neighbourhood. Great service and an excellent atmosphere.
A. M.
I love this pub, especially since they like dogs too. Dugs on the leash becomes dugs on the lash! Love it
N. M.
Great drinks including wine and retro ambiance. Music from old LPs. Burgers are fabulous and the sweet potato fries are yum with hot hot hot chillie sauce. Sadly the chef is changing but the staff promise that the new chef will be just as good.
K. W.
Really enjoyed it here. Staff are really nice and attentive. They do a great Margarita!
C. R.
Shout out to mimi who was the most attentive barmaid ever last night. 👍👌
D. l.
Brilliant hidden gem with great staff. Only gripe need better selection of bottled lager
J. H.
Always a great evening / catch up with friends at The Vinnie. Pina Colada Fridays are a must and you *have* to try the Mezcal Margaritas!! 🍹
R. M.
Love this place. Always a nice ambience and fab people watching. Dog friendly, great drinks selection (even the house wine), and buffalo wings to die for...
C. P.
A true local’s pub. Nice selection of drinks and you must go for a pickle back, always good fun. Food is the same as Feed’s which is brilliant. Great burgers, wings and poutine. If you’re one for spicy food go for the Vladimir Poutine. Staff are lovely and good banter. A bit pricey but reasonable.
R. D.
Small, mad local Edinburgh pub and exactly what you'd expect a Scottish pub to be. Friendly, lots of characters to hear stories from and a good laugh. We were hungry so the food went down well.
A. C.
Back at my old 'local' after 7 years.
Great beer and atmosphere catching up with friends.
D. R.
Proper wee bar! The bar had a smell you only get when it has been open years and years and years. If I could get the smell made into a candle I would. Reasonable prices also. Thank you Dx
S. H.
Great pub, good selection of beers, shows sports on decent quality screens, off the beaten track so more of a local pub with a cosy interior, good decor and friendly people. What more do you need?
C. A.
Great atmosphere here.
p. l.
Great atmosphere, brilliant music (White Stripes, Cure and the Thompson Twins to name just a few), dog friendly and great food and drink. I wish I lived nearer!
K. B.
Nice pub off the tourist route, friendly staff, good selection of beer and wine and great atmosphere.
R. A.
One of the most gloomy bars in Stockbridge .. Also the most expensive in the area for a simple pint of very ordinary beer! .. The thing in its favour is it's open late, which in Stock bridge is 1am.. It's also one of the only bars to apply for & use it's Festival late licence!
Ł. P.
My favourite pub in Edinburgh. Inspector Morse would drink beer here. Great food, as well, with quite a nice choice of burgers on the menu.
P. P.

Excellent experience. Lovely atmosphere and the staff coped well with a largish party of potentially rowdy students plus an ageing parent!
C. L.
Great food and a friendly atmosphere. Good for meeting up for a chat and a couple of drinks.
R. B.
A pleasant bar with a good vibe and friendly dogs. Limited beer selection but plenty to like.
