Reviews of The Abbotsford Bar & Restaurant
J. G.
We had pork chops with a mustard sauce, fish and chips, and steak/ale pie (2 people had this). All of us thought the portions were overly generous and the quality was excellent. I should also mention we started with the smoked salmon app and it was one of the best versions I’ve ever had! Only downside was they were out of a dish on the menu that my friends wanted but in today’s supply chain challenged world, not gonna hold it against them. Great service and great food!!
S. K.
Delicious Fish and chips, good service and a nice Guinness.
A. N.
Lovely place, bar on the ground floor, the restaurant is upstairs. Super friendly staff, fast and swift. Not a very big place, but that's a big plus, you feel comfortable and relaxed. The restaurant that is.
Carrot & horseradish soup + fish & chips, both excellent and all one needs for a late lunch after a few freezing December hours outside. The soup was delicious and hot, perfect winter starter. Best fish&chips I had north of the border. Not a fancy one, but enjoyable dish, always was. No offence to the other places though, I only visited few.

We could have sat I this bar forever watching the bar manager. His build, his clothes, his mannerisms, the way he walked pulling his shirt sleeves down, it was like watching Basil Fawltey, a great asset to the pub and for people who remember the program. The bar itself was perfect and the staff brilliant. Well worth a visit for the entertainment value.
L. T.
Friendly staff, tasty food and good beer. Toilets were clean and the place looks beautiful!
J. L.
Great pub, good selection of cask ales, and the staff are great. The pub is a real looker too, nice oval bar and a great moulded ceiling.
The oval bar means even when table service is the name of the game, the staff are still able to manage the pub well. Great spot
K. S.
Classic pub tucked a little off the main roads. Restaurant upstairs that I've eaten in before and has a nice cosy atmosphere, however this time we ate in the pub. Great range of whiskey and beers, the steak sandwich was superb and I am told the steak and ale pie was spot on too.
D. P.
Great nice and cozy traditional pub with a nice whisky selection. The manager (Steve) really knows his stuff if you need any recommendations.
Very affordable prices too.
C. P.
Great food. Large portions for starters and mains. Couldn't finish either meal. Place was busy for a Monday. Good menu too. Will go back there.
D. K.
Great traditional public house with an ornate island bar. If you love your traditional ales and whiskeys then this is the place for you. No music, this is all about the atmosphere and drinking 👌

A big thank you to the staff at The Abbotsford Bar in Edinburgh. We called yesterday while on a day trip to Edinburgh with our friends and two dogs Max and Molly. We were made to feel so welcome by the two young ladies behind the bar. It was a wet rainy day so not fit to go walk about and so glad we did. We also had something to eat again so glad we did I had a ploughmans with a portion of chips and I can honestly say it was one of the nicest I have ever had, but the best it was the price what amazing value for money. It was served quickly and presented beautifully.
Thank you so much, we will definitely call again.

Great selection of real ales, food excellent. Great atmosphere. Only downside is that it's popular and can make getting a seat impossible
O. B.
Excellent establishment. Good choice of beers, friendly staff. Went in for a couple beers on way to Rugby Scotland v Australia
d. c.

T. J.
Great atmosphere Good ale and 64 wiskeys on the menu
W. B.
Friendly bar staff which is always nice.Good selection of beers and spirits. Also a good range of food choices which were well presented and very tasty.

This wonderful restaurant is tucked up above a loud pub. The setting looks a bit austere, but most people dining wore casual attire. The service was top notch, very friendly. We had beer and cider and ordered the haggis, tatties, and needs appetizer. This was our second haggis. It’s been great both times, but theirs was especially good, with refreshingly present spice (nutmeg and maybe mace, I’m guessing). My husband’s main dish was the Caesar salad with lots of chicken, maybe two breasts, and actual strips of anchovies. He found it excellent. I opted for the wild mushroom risotto, which was incredibly good. In addition to the mushrooms--which included some adorable little ones with stems--there were tomato chunks and leek. Everything was delightfully fresh. We left stuffed and happy.

L. G.
Great wee place good selection of beer and although we didn't eat food looked very good
R. S.
Circle bar the way it should be. Cask beer and reasonable pub grub. Hard in Edinburgh as there's so many but this place is worth a stop.
J. R.
Very friendly classic bar with good beer and whiskey selection, and traditional pub food
A. L. G.
Very good service and excellent quality food. Temperature was a little cool but so was Edinburgh today.
N. W.
Had a few drinks here Saturday night. Really nice pub & a brilliant atmosphere.
D. R.
The restaurant looked a bit jaded when we walked in, But the smiling barmaid soon brightened up the place The food was delicious and plenty of it would definitely be back.
Y. M.
The pub downstairs doesn’t serve under 18, FYI. However, the upstairs restaurant is quaint and has a neat little bar in the middle. We got off to a bumpy start as there are five in our party. The server didn’t seem interested in accommodating us at all, and initially turned us away. (Despite the fact that there was one table of people eating.) I’m not entirely sure why she came back and stopped us leaving to tell us she could push two tables together. But, she did. And we proceeded to have the worst service we have had in the UK. And that is unfortunate because the food was really quite tasty. (With the exception of lukewarm cock’a’leekie soup, which still tasted good.) get the haddock and chips. According to two in our party, some of the best they’ve had this trip! The tagliatelle with mushrooms/spinach/artichokes was tasty. My husband felt that we were treated the way we were because we are Americans, as the “natives” or at the very least; non-Americans, were treated noticeably different from us. It seemed apparent that they had zero interest in serving “tourists.” So, we will mark this off our lists of places to return to.
M. B.
Lovely lunch here service was quick and friendly.
B. G.
Nice pub, full food service at the bar, restaurant upstairs, takes cards not AMEX, very friendly staff. Food was filling but nothing to write home about. Has wifi!
L.
I found this bar a delight. I love the way it is set out. Nice bar staff and the toilets were very clean. Definitely be back.
D. G.

Popped into the Abbotsford for our first stop of the day. Very friendly and helpful staff and very tasty prosecco! Always a delight to be at the Abbotsford!
D. D.
Excellent. Went on my own for a drink before home, staff masked up and helpful as always, directed me to check in qr code. Brilliant Orkney stout on tap and a wee malt of the moment to go with it. Top pub.
S. S.
Sat outside in the sun had a burger was very good. Great service most enjoyable 😉
C. A.
Good traditional island bar inside. Outside seating area. Good range of cask and keg beers.
S. H.
A traditional pub with a good selection of beers & spirits. It also serves food in the bar & has a restaurant upstairs.
T. W.
A very pleasant bar serving a nice selection of beers etc. Attentive staff.
M. P.
Great pub the top end of Rose St in the centre of Edinburgh, worth it a visit if you're walking in the area, it's a very classic Scottish pub, large enough for bigger groups. Great selection of malts and beers. Friendly stuff and nice atmosphere. I recommend!
L. C.
Our local when in Edinburgh, beautiful traditional pub with an excellent selection of hand pulled beers and a great choice of whiskies.
A. S.
Lovely, traditional pub - quite busy but staff were very efficient in serving us drinks. Genuine Scottish atmosphere
K. D.
Beautiful experience. We had haggis, chicken burger, and fish and chips. Everything was lovely. Friendly and professional servers and chef. Would absolutely recommend this restaurant. And I will definitely come back next I'm in Edinburgh.
l. K.
Been here a few times and its always cosy, welcoming and has a good menu too. Definately worth a visit!
J. H.
A good place for a drink downstairs and a meal upstairs.
Excellent food and service.
J. W.
Pub grub very good. Guinness £6.00 a pint on the experience side and ripping it a bit.
Z. R.
Great service and environment upstairs. Even a fire in the fireplace. The toffee pudding is great!
A. K.
Great service from really friendly, helpful staff. Good food too.
b. m.
Very helpful staff. Food was good pub fair, and the prices weren't bad for the location. I'd have given it a 4 star but the staff pushed it into a 5. Does what it needed to do and does it well. Lovely old features to add to the view while eating.
C. J.
Nice pub, friendly staff, a bit more variety in familiar draught premium beers would have been good though. Nice real fire!
A. S.
Went there three times for lunch first two times lovely lunch third lunch not so good had fish and chips wasn't very good I complained and they didn't charge us for any food so sorted apart from that nice pub lovely decor
L. M.
Lovely Steak and Ale pie in a quaint wee pub! Really nice 👌
L. S.
Good bit to sit outside and have a beer when the weather is nice
F. T.
Visited pub on Christmas break from North East great atmosphere staff excellent Scottish beer very tasty worth a visit folk's .
j.
We were served food when many other restaurants were closed or not accepting walk-ins. The staff was polite. Not much vegetarian choices but the wild mushroom and asparagus risotto was good, and the nachos were average. Cider was good. Recommended.
L. T.
Really great starter with the haggis, very well priced beers for the location
K. D.
Perfect bar. Food was also really good. Would definitely visit again.

Hasn't changed for years - good range of beers and spirits - good service.
J. S.
Nice place for drinks and a chat near the open fire it was busy when I went hars to get a seat
P. S.
Awesome whisky bar on rose street with a great selection of ales ( as soon as one is finished a different one goes on). Food is great and it's the sort of place that has few tables but people are happy to share tables and stories with each other. You enter as a stranger and leave as friends.
Staff are amazing especially Stephen, Greg and Freya. If you want a bit of banter then James is your guy
G. A.
Really warm and welcoming atmosphere, staff were very friendly and food was absolutely fantastic, really recommend the steak and ale pie!
F.
This pub has hardly changed since my last visit, 20+ years ago. It remains a very good central pub with great staff, food and interesting clientele.
M. R.

Sister bar to the Guilford Arms and can be just as busy. Outdoor seating and indoor food only at the moment because of the pandemic.
R. G.
Fantastic find if visiting Edinburgh. We had a meal upstairs. Which was great. Great choices all served by the most amazing young waiter.

As a wegie visiting Edinburgh I always head to the Abbotsford. Consistently good service and hospitable staff. 1 star less for tables outside, get them a bit more level!!!
B. C.
Fab venue, great staff. Well done wetherspoons
B. S.
Very friendly staff and very tasty beers on draft
F. S.
One of the most perfect bars I visited ever.. Perfect Barkeeper, fantastic kitchen...
C. G.
The first pub I ever drank in way back in the sixties. The building has not changed much but it is now more of a restaurant than a pub. Social distancing has spoiled it as it has done to many other businesses.
D.
Great pub, nice atmosphere and attentive staff
S.
Very Nice pub with plenty of seating both inside and out, we didnt stop for food but i would definitely return for another drink.
m. m.
Very good malts selection. Over 120 malts to choose from. Friendly atmosphere. Good quality food freshly served.

Great pub, good choice of whiskeys

Nice food bit expensive very friendly staff

Having read the reviews my expectations may have been set a little too high. The decor is old de worlde and staff are attentive and welcoming. However, I was underwhelmed in the quality of the food.
P. D. L. N.
Beautiful interiors, friendly barman and nice environment.
p. S.
First visit to the pub and the food, and general atmosphere was just perfect. The two dishes ordered, vegetarian risotto and the pork loin were cooked just perfect.
C. G.
What a great place. Staff were amazing and made me very welcome. Gorgeous food. Lovely beer and a warm feel to the place that makes you want to stay. I visit here every time I visit Edinburgh. They welcome my dog also with a bowl of water and a cuddle.
T. M.
Very nice Scottish pub/restaurant in the city center. Good place to break from an afternoon of touring. Try the steak and ale pie.
J.
Food passable service good. Been won't be back
P. C.
Always come here for lunch, fish and chips lovely. Service great, very obliging. A smart, crisp clean uniform would make all the difference. Bit shabby.
a. t.
Wife had a ploughman's really nice
E.
Pleasant Scottish pub with good food for a reasonable price. Had my first ever (vegetarian) haggis. The staff was really nice and seemed to genuinely care about me having a good experience. Came back another day for beers and the place was jammed with locals.

Really good, efficient C-19 system in place. Friendly staff and at no time did I feel stressed because of close customer contact....best bar so far. Accepting walk-ins if they have space and nothing is a bother. All sanitisers, track and trace and a one way system in place. Well done to the team.
k. o.
I was ln for a quick pint. Thanks. I would go back. Kenny.
A.
Excellent! Good beers and wide selection of whisky!

One of my favorite spots. Great selection of beers and I've always been satisfied with the food 😋
I. L.
Cozy pub, ok pub food and friendly staff.
C.
It's an ok bar, service and drinks were fine it's just there's much better options near by.
I. W.
One of the great understated Edinburgh watering holes. Good value. Excellent range of real ales and malts, good wholesome Scottish food, served by brilliant bar staff. No canned music, only very rare TV, to distract from a sociable chat. If you want wall to wall sports on big screen TV or music so loud you'd need to text your companion, go elsewhere. Please.
T. K.
Very good food, very good table service in current situation, friendly staff and not expensive. Recommended
C. M.
Great pub, very atmospheric inside.
Good choice of drinks

Excellent choice of whiskeys . Very friendly place.
S. C.
Good pub, good beer, good food
G. T.
Lovely restaurant on the 1st floor, the interior is very traditional, rather empirical style, which is more than satisfying. The menu is simple, but we're talking about one of the oldest pub in Edinburgh, so if you're up for microbiotic food or molecular gastronomy, this is not your place. But if you're old school and looking for traditional gastronomy and hospitality values, I'd recommend the place. Another plus, the prices are moderate, it's like magic, knowing the area where this pub is situated. Highly worth a try. The staff is really nice and very professional.
D. L.
Friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Some great beer choices. Great pub
P. S.
Lovely old style pub with a great range of drinks.
N. R.
Old-school boozer with nice features, decent food and good service. Whisky list stretches to two pages solid!
s. O.
This is an environment where you can
Relaxed and enjoy.
You can come in with your friends and family either for a dinner.
You can make reservations.
The desert is served just for £3 95p
You can seat out side to have your drink
The staff are nice, friendly.
There is a wheelchair entrance.
M. S.
nice place, good and tasty food.we had the soup for starter and for main pie and another (don't remember the name)both tasty .the staff very friendly. I could say was the most traditional launch I had during my stay.
H. M.
Stoped in for a wee bite to eat, Me and my partner shared the the snack platter, it was delicious! Nice place very clean.
N. D.
Pretty good food, upstairs of the place to go to avoid the crowds.
J. H.
Lovely traditional pub, beautiful decor, great atmosphere friendly staff. A must visit!
H.
All the bar staff are really friendly, approachable and polite - lots of nice chit-chat and happy banter.
Good selection of beers and ales, usually local and if not, then from elsewhere in Scotland.
Whisky list is outstanding and worth a try or five!
Food is perfect pub grub - hearty and plentiful. Puddings are to die for.
M. G.
I've been here a few times as it's just across from the bus station. There's a good selection of drinks which seem reasonably priced. Staff seem quite freindly & I was able to sample a drink before buying. The place is always heaving which is a good sign. Haven't tried the food here so I can't comment on that.
a. p.
Walk in no bookings.if space available so glad we discovered this great pub with very good pub grub .and with Eat out discount great price .very good Covid rules. Clean .staff very helpful. Having be unable to find a restaurant that would a cept walk in customer .very happy to find a great pub .Thank you.
D. R.
Great service and lovely haggis neaps and tatties
S. H.
Warm atmosphere, helpful staff and great scotch broth
I. Y.
Nice Haggis and good and smart service !
C. D.
Good place, great service, reasonable prices, decent menu. The restaurant above a pub should have burgers, fish & chips, and steak & ale pie. This place also has good soups and salads as well as a few items with duck, pork or vegetarian options. It's a crowd pleaser.
a. w.
Went last night whilst on business. Nice little pub but nothing special. One of the women behind the bar was miserable (maybe having a bad day). second lady that served me was friendly and helped choose a nice whiskey.
M.
The place is cool and I think it's awesome to take a glass with friends but if you go there for the food, you have to take a speciality and not something like chips. I advise the pies, good but not unbelievable. I still recommend the Abbotsford Bar but not obviously the restaurant.
A. S.
A fantastic historic pub in Edinburgh with an insane whisky selection and good selection of real ales. The service was fantastic; despite the bar being two deep when we visited the service was fast and friendly! A definite must visit if your nearby!
N. R.
I have visited this place twice already and I can say it is worth it. It's quite cozy inside, I was well served, staff is friendly and approachable. I recommend the french fries, fairly priced. What I did not like was the fact that they didn't have honey for my tea but that's understandable since they don't drink tea with honey in Scotland.
L. W.
Perfect place to visit if you're looking for an authentic Scottish bar experience. Very busy (making it hard to get a seat so girls in heels beware!) with a no frills design with a brilliant range of whiskeys.
P. H.
Fantastic haggis and friendly service. Thanks!
c. b.
Great bar nice cold pints of at mungos . Chips and cheese was delicious 😋
A. U.
Great bar, staff.
M. P.
Cracking pint and a table, hits all the right notes.
E. H.
Great service , staff very helpful, very covid aware , well done
N. M.
Decent old fashioned pub at the start of Rose St. Doesn't serve shots or cater to stag or hen dos so has almost a local feel about it which is unusual for a pub located in central Edinburgh. Definitely a good place to pop past for a quiet pint if you are in the area.
B. S.
Revising my previous negative review - now highly recommended and a must visit for Rose St visitors.
After revisiting this place a couple times recently they have really made a change in staff's behavior.
Staff is attentive, know their drinks and much more friendly than visits a few years ago.
Management, thank you for bringing the quality of service back to where it needs to be.
s. d.
Interesting old pub. Friendly staff and good service. Good selection of drinks, not too expensive for the city centre. Good covid plan in place. Well done.
M. R.
Favourite place for lunch. Best haggis neeps and tatties in town
M. G.
Lovely service by our server Calum and the food was delicious 😋
They were able to accommodate our group of 12 people (3 tables of 4) which we greatly appreciated!
So thank you very much for your service and the food, would definitely recommend it!
g. m.
Great bar downstairs. Traditional central wooden bar popular with locals and visitors alike. Great choice of beers amongst the usual wines and spirits. Good whisky choices. Food in the bar downstairs is good quality and the restaurant upstairs is good.
J. N.
Excellent food and good beer!
W. B.
Spend a day in Edinburgh & was looking for somewhere to have dinner came a cross this place very nice inside Haggis delicious great service for the staff would recommend
P. o. a. b.
The soup was fantastic but the fish and chips was ok. But I'm very particular about fish. Lovely pub and staff were very friendly, love the German beer
T. C.
What a surprise, first time up the stairs and it was brilliant. Great service, amazing prices compared to the usual high Edinburgh bar prices. The menu was very good.
M. M.
Small resturant above the pub seats approx 35. Sometimes need to reserve a table in summer and at Xmas etc. Good prices and food cooked to order. They do a.mean venison steak when it is on menu. 3 course meal with couple of glasses of wine for 2 approx £55. Can also order bar meals downstairs in main bar but it is a busy and popular pub. Restaurant not suited for disabled customets due to 2 flights of stairs.
J. S.
Nice olde worlde pub but staff not very friendly. On leaving we thanked them but was totally ignored!
P. M.
Stunning pub...loads of character
A. S.
Great food. Service was exceptional. Only 2 girls working the upstairs restaurant but worked like a well oiled machine. Polite, friendly and well worth the visit. Will be back. 😃
A. M.
Only had drinks. Was happy to get a seat & not too noisy on a Saturday night! Reasonable beer selection, small choice of gin. Friendly bar staff & glasses cleared regularly from tables.
A. E.
Great place to catch a quick drink in the middle of all the shopping.
E. W.
Good classic pub food. Good price
G. V.
Went to Edinburgh for the day. Was going to have a meal at Witherspoon on George Street, but it was Very busy. Found The Abbotsford off St Andrew's Square on Rose Street. This Pub was Old Fashioned and very homely. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Bar meals very good and reasonable. Sat in the bar area. Steady flow of customers coming and going. Restaurant area upstairs and was also very busy. Highly recommended.
J. B.
It was my first time to visit this restaurant and to say I was pleased would be an understatement. It was fantastic. The ambiance, the service and the food was excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.
P. F. M.
Always good to enjoy a pint here.
m. g.
Good pub atmosphere loved it
h. h.
Very busy every night, it's small so you might have to wait for a table. It's worth the wait. Everything cooked fresh. Staff were very pleasant, especially clem who was our waiter both nights.
I. K. 1.
As a Canadian Scot in Edinburgh I had to have my Scottish haggis. What a treat. Had a highlander beer, a cup of Scottish soup and a wee Haggis. Made my day all were delicious. Nice setting, beautiful pub. When we gect back to Scotland plan to spend a lot more time at the Abbotsford pub.
L. J.
What a hidden gem!!
Decided to pop in The Abbotsford for a beer and some food before travelling home.
Exceptional service from Maurice, the best we had received during our few days in the City.
Haggis, neaps and tatties, with the gravy was amazing.
Definately topped off our stay.
J. M.
First time we used this pub and I doubt we'd return. It was very cold to start. The ladies toilets are up 21 steps so we were told that I could use the gents if no men were in or go across the road to marks and spencer to use their toilet. My cousin and I chose the lentil with root vegetables soup with crusty bread and butter while my other two cousins got the steak pie. Our soup tasted like a mild curry sauce and not like any lentil soup I have ever made and although we said it was alright when asked by the staff in did ask the barman/waiter if there was curry in the soup and he said a mild spice was in it. My cousin is not one to complain and gets very uptight if I go to do so therefore I let them away with it.
R. B.
Food excellent as was the service.
R. G.
We were looking for great scotch whisky and we got it. The barman was excellent and he perfectly understood what we were looking for. He suggested us a variety of whisky from smooth to smokey that supposed a remarkable experience.

In this lovely pub every so often. Until today I have never had the pleasure to be served by 'kenny'..happy..smiley..generally an amazing bar man and also person. If you come in here..guaranteed to leave with a smile(not just from the beverage).
Everyone try this wee amazing boozer!!!!

Good old fashioned pub.
A.
Lovely pub with an authentic, traditional feel to it. Friendly staff with a decent selection of drinks. Doesn't feel like a tourist trap- in Edinburgh a lot of places are, unfortunately.
j. m.

One of the historical old pubs in Rose Street, Edinburgh. Many of its fellow Rose Street howffs have changed, but the Abbotsford remains. You can't visit Edinburgh without having a drink here. The decor is fabulous and you really feel as if you're experiencing the City at its best. Range of ales, wines and spirits excellent. Don't miss it!
G. W.
Good beer, good food.
Very welcoming, great service
J. C.
Staff brilliant, good food...
C. S.
Lovely local pub in heart of Edinburgh
S. B.

Solid food, big portions! Staff were amazing. Lovely cosy restaurant above the bar. Like going back to the 80s, in a good way!
E. A.
Popped in for a quick pint, and I'm impressed. Lovely old wooden bar, great selection of beers and whisky (check out the whisky board at the back to see what they have!). Great stuff.
D. C.
An excellent traditional bar with a restaurant on the floor above.
A classic island bar holds a wide high quality selection of beers including a number of Scottish breweries.
E. C.
Great meal. Very busy, but, fortunately got a table right away, considering the time of year, as everywhere is chaotic. . Breaded fish and chips excellent.
N. H.
Well kept beers and staff that know about the beers they are serving. Pleasant surroundings, which I would say ( Victorian pub ), excellent food and wine menu, you just got to try.
D. D.
Great food, great beer, fantastic staff.
W. m.
Food was lovely and excellent choice of gin from the lad that served us
B. K.
Great pub a wee bit expensive
C. D.
A really unique bar with a good selection of beers that were kept well. Food downstairs was good and filling. Staff all nice and a real roaring fireplace too.
D. N.
Very traditional Edinburgh City bar. More of a stand-up and quick drink place than one to spend all night. Will be busy in tourist season, and every lunchtime and early evening. Fairly expensive for what you get, but well worth a visit.
H. C.
City centre bar busy but service great as is the drinks. Not tried food here as yet but bar food as well as restaurant menus. Old style local boozer lots of passing and tourist trade.
T. E.
My Male friend found it very enjoyable as he made very strong inclinations of endearment towards the ginger barman. The ginger barman responded with a stroke on his arm. Never seen my pal so happy
D. C.

A. R.
A real gem of a pub. Pleasant staff, good choice of drinks and a brilliant atmosphere. Really glad we went here instead of a generic bar with thumping music etc.
O. G.
Beer pours very nicely and is well kept. Good ambiance and friendly staff. Great spot for any Real Ale lovers
A. W.
Excellent Scottish bar with good choice of real ales and plenty of other drinks options. One large room with island bar. Good food served in the bar area and in the upstairs restaurant.
D. R.
One of the planet's great pubs, the staff were so eager to help and took the time to have a wee chat. Food was only OK but I would go back just for the ambience.
B. R.
Loved this pub for a lot of reasons. The food was great and large sizes. I had veg Hagis which was delicious Service was great. Definitely will go back

M. C.
Tasty lentil soup and a small plate of haggis for a main for about a tenner. Well placed for the station and the downstairs looks like a nice boozer.
M. A.
Great beer. Good service and all covid-19 compliant. Felt very safe.
S. D. P.
Very nice style and atmosphere with real working fire place. Good beer.
Unfortunately not convincing at all in terms of food...
Cured meet antipasti...: very LITTLE quantity of food consisting of very small salami slices (not of the best quality) with huge amount of rocket (basically more rocket than anything else).
SCOTTISH mixed cheeses...: one piece of blue cheese (gorgonzola - Italy), one piece of very smelly brie (French) and another one of maybe Manchego cheese (Spain). A part from this, again very small cheeses' amount and more rocket than anything else. On the top of this the grapes were totally FROZEN. Obviously, as most of them consists of water they were really really HARD ice beads!
A. M.
Have never had a bad pint of real ale in this pub, they are always spot on. Can also testify to the fact that the food is excellent and reasonably priced.
