Everything was served in huge portions and a full tummy is guaranteed after a meal here. A variety of toppings available for nachos, good bites with no surprises, anyway people would be satisfied by the sheer size. And the real star should be the beer. Great selection, the ale and cider we had were nice.

What do I think about this place? I think everyone should visit it. There is charm here, there is the coldest beer and here the most important thing is the attitude of the staff. Indeed, you are one of the disappearing kind of people smiling, friendly and thoughtful how to please the king's client. Thank you very much. And those who do not come to you may simply be deeply sorry. I recommend you to everyone. Anyone who wants to experience the real Edinburgh.

Nice décor and good nachos. Was a bit surprised to see black eyed beans in them but still good. Was weird to be told to sit in a tiny table with uncomfortable stools when there were nicer tables with sofa/chairs available, so we asked to move. Good service overall.

Old hoose is a great place to enjoy with a small group of friends as it delivers excellent atmosphere and dining options regardless of the average Brit pub experience. Their Nacho's are Amazing . The place once crowded feels a bit packed but that's something outside of their control. Recommended for groups of 2 to 6 .

Very friendly staff, food excellent - tasty, good quality, well presented and decent portions - great choice of beer and whisky but it was afternoon so couldn't sample anything more than the IPA. Vegetarian and vegan options were popular on most tables (vegan nachos a good sharing size). Music was low key so could enjoy conversations, great atmosphere.

Came for the massive nachos twice already. Doggie friendly pub so if you’re lucky enough you will get to pet one 🐶💖 Friendly staff and quite attentive if it is not very busy. Prices are ok, ciders for 4-5£, massive nachos 23£ the big one and 13£ the regular one.

We went to The Auld Hoose for one thing only: the Nachos. And we were not disappointed! The staff were very friendly and polite in their cautions about its hugeness, a caution which is fully warranted because of the sheer enormity of the Nachos. They were super tasty, really nicely assembled and were a super fun for a meal out. The atmosphere was relaxed, not too crowded at all, chill staff, rock music.

Found this pub totally by chance, looking for a dog friendly place to get out of the rain and wound up having a great time. I spent a long weekend in Edinburgh a few years back, and had the opportunity to stop by the Auld Hoose after hiking Arthur's Seat. What an absolute treasure. The plate of nachos I got I still think and talk about to this day. The service was great, and the music was refreshingly out of the norm. Great atmosphere amazing food. If you are visiting and plan on hiking Arthur's Seat this is a no brainer next stop. I want to visit Edinburgh again just so that I can have one more plate of these nachos.

The Auld Hoose; Warm, comfy, with decent selection of beers, good music, and good food. The burger-meat is very good for a pub, while the menu encourages you to build-a-burger. The giant nachos are somewhat of a meme, and you might want to try the 'smaller' portion first. You eat heartily for about £12, or below £10 with a smaller appetite or one of their regular discounts (including everyday student discount; Mondays 20% off food). The clientele varies, but seems to mostly be 25-40, and is frequented by junior academics.

The friendly staff make you feel at home from the get go, in this lovely restaurant that boasts some of the finest punk and goth tunes played all day long. We had hotdogs that were indeed mouthwatering and the nachos were amazing as well. My only comment is that the nachos were served in the worst plate imaginable. I mean it was a 3 storeys Nacho's dish served in a really small and uncomfortable plate. Apart from that everything else was amazing. Well done.

Super crowded in evenings and they don't take bookings so you essentially have to wait and could take up to an hour. Had the famous nachos, initially looked like it had enough sauces on the top but it soon became apparent that there was definitely not enough cheese inside and there were way too many beans. None of us was a fan of beans and to be fair we forgot to ask them to not put them in. We did also run out of sauce by the time we got to the chips at the bottom. Was pretty good when I wasn't getting beans though.

Dinner was so good I came back the next day for a full cooked vegan breakfast (which is served until 3pm!) which was an absolute treat. This is a remarkably comfortable, student pub, even if you're not a student anymore. The atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly, even when it's busy, and the same adjectives apply to the staff, who are basically just lovely. While it may not exactly be a craft beer or real ale cornucopia, I'd be surprised if you couldn't find something that you properly liked, even if you are a bit fussy about your beer; I am, and I've always been happy. There's a handful of rotating cask ales, backed up by a decent spread of beers on keg, and a reasonable selection of craft beer in bottles. The food options lean mostly in the direction of comfort, but there are some good healthy options among them, and a reasonable set of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free choices with a mexican-ish theme. Almost all of the food I've had would suffice to keep you full for at least a day - I highly recommend the vegan burrito. Surprisingly, they make pretty good coffee for a pub. Last but not least there is a small selection of boards games, and many people's seem to bring and play their own. N.B. This is a four star review only because I reserve five stars for the sort of pub that I would head to if the world was about to end; the Auld Hoose may not quite be that, but I'd happily stop off here for a sneaky half along the way ;-)

So this was a nice surprise that I discovered today. Outside its your typical unassuming Edinburgh pub and inside your first impression might be that it's nothing special - but you'd be wrong. The food here is a little bit special. For example we ordered a side of Onion Rings which turned out to be quite literally a tower... Enough for 3 or 4 people never mind one! All the portions were incredibly generous and tasted pretty good. They cater to both vegetarians and vegans, an unusual thing for Edinburgh pubs. The staff were really friendly and if you love your rock/goth music you'll love the jukebox. It's also a short walk from another Edinburgh favourite - Arthur's Seat. So if you fancy a brisk walk taking in the incredible views of Edinburgh from atop the crags this is a great place to bookend it. Visit!!

Love the food here. Great vegan versions of everything (burritos, nachos, burgers, hotdogs), and you get plenty for your money. Lots of seating, though toilets are a little inaccessible for anyone using a mobility aid (have to squeeze between bar and tables). Good drinks select, with rotating casks. Very studenty and can get very busy and loud.

Only downside is the venue is small and you can't book a table so if you're coming as a group you need to plan for that. The place is always busy. The Hoose is a great pub, usually haunt for big pub meals and a good selection of drinks. Rally at least 4 people before you take on the nachos. This hidden gem is definitely worth venturing off the beaten path for. Nicholson St and South Bridge have their share of eateries but Auld Hoose is different. One of the best locals around; with its punk and metal jukebox, a few guest cask ales, whisky and the BEST nachos in all of Edinburgh! Yes I said it, all of Edinburgh. The nachos for two is definitely a decent portion of corn chips, meat, cheese, guac and sour cream and if you love spicey, then it is served with a heap of jalapenos too. Go there for the pub quiz (it has been running for 10 years) on a Monday night, where folks can win money to spend on the bar. It is bound to be a good night out.

The Music! The Nachos! The ales! The Auld Hoose feels a bit out of the way being on the "wrong"side of Nicholson Street - it faces the Crags and is surrounded by sheltered housing - but it is *such* a great pub! It's very popular with the student crowd and folks that like their music shouty and industrial with amps turned up to 11. Along with the usual bar taps there are usually 3-4 guest ales every month and a board that tells you what's coming up next. Food wise, they do a great selection of tex-mex and burgers - the nachos are *MASSIVE* and tip top. If you like drinking a nice craft beer and listening to Machine Head while tucking into the biggest plate of nachos ever, then this is the place to be :)
