Reviews of The Banshee Labyrinth
Y. A.
The best rock bar in Edinburgh. It's in the old town side, within walking distance from the centre. Great atmosphere and vibes, the prices are great. The staff were nice to me. I love the decoration and the music being played. Also they have a cinema inside. It's a must visit if you're in town. Cheers .
S. R.
Fun quirky venue. We've been a few times to watch our friends punk band. Always get a drink when we visit Edinburgh. Fab music and such a quirky cinema and cave as style floor too. I love it ,👻🖤🤘🎃
J. D.
Absolutely LOVED our night out here. So glad we found it. Great cocktails, atmosphere and friendly staff. Karaoke too! And spent a while in the cinema, which was fab, albeit a bit creepy lol can't wait to come back on out next visit to Edinburgh.
D. N.
This place is just brilliant with lots of underground cavern bars and rooms. It even has a free cinema. One bar has a stage for live music. There is so much to explore and the place is really atmospheric. We went twice while in Edinburgh as it was just such fun. Also it opens really late for night birds.
T. M.
Got here right at opening so not sure what the late night scene is like but this place was fantastic to wander around in and have a drink in fun room. Saw a band setting up in one room, watched part of Flash Gordon in the theater had a drink in a purple corridor right outside a for-hire bar that looked amazing for a private party. I'll have to come back another time later in the night and wearing black clothes so I fit in more!
A. G.
Edingburghs most haunted pub.
Open 7pm til 3am.. situated on Niddry St..and part of the famous haunted vaults an underground pub on 3 levels with its own cute cinema.. just as the name says the bar is a Warren of tunnels and rooms.. various bars .. due to covid restrictions most rooms we're closed off and the cinema was closed so will definitely be back to explore more once restrictions are lifted..
L. P.
My absolute favourite alternative venue in Edinburgh! Free cinema showing the best classics, pool table, amazing cocktails (Mollies Ashes 😋) and all the spooky vibes you need. Often has live music or karaoke downstairs.
M.
An amazing horror pub in Edinburg. Very good music, great environment. Only things that I did not like were a cocktail which was not good and the service of a girl. Nevertheless, having beers here is awesome.
A. A.
Popped in here on the last weekend of the fringe. Amazing aesthetic, very atmospheric. Service was great. Also caught a free show by some vampires in the cellar, yes, really. 😂
L. C.
I always love the Banshee. I've played gigs here with my bands - the sound is always incredible! The vibe is always so great here and I've had many fun nights here. The cinema is super cool and I love how there's always something for everyone with loads of different rooms.
I enjoyed some Fringe stuff, which was great.
e. m.
Amazing and safe place for everyone. So much things happening - karaoke, twister, live music, cinema!! Everyone can find something for themselves. Very inclusive for everyone, and the security is doing a great job making sure only right people can come and stay. Wouldn’t hesitate to leave my drink unattended. Great safe space and a must to visit!
A. e.
Loved this place! Fantastic atmosphere, good people and great music!and a movie theater! Will be back!
d. r.
This bar was a lot of fun on Halloween! Lots of little rooms and bars, some of which are underground and feel like you're in some sort of party dungeon.
H.
great place with a few different areas to drink, alongside a cinema room and a live music area. the haunted aesthetic meshes really well with the location and atmosphere, and I found that the drinks were fairly priced, especially considering this is in the city.
M. S.
They have B teams every Monday night. Fantastic collections of varied bars all under one venue. Very cool. Love that there is a free to sit in little theatre for chilled out drinking too
D. S.
The barmaid was nice. Drinks were reasonable priced. Got a free pints of water. My kid got drunk off of qty (1) cider. The only ghost I saw was that of my previous self whomst may have enjoyed this place more 10 years ago.
E. M.
Super cool bar!! we just walked into the movie theater with our Guinness beers and watched Resident Evil! It was so cool!! This bar has so many rooms and such a cool vibe!!
R. P.
Amazing place. Staff are friendly and the people in there are fun. It claims to be haunted and it may be, my sister was downstairs and felt her hair being pulled and the feeling of someone scratching her arm, scary!
A. B. r.
The pub overall was actually quite good, with good music (most of the time) and nice cocktails which weren't overpriced. The atmosphere was also nice, the low ceilings and dimly lit seating areas adding to the idea of this being Scotland's most haunted pub. Now onto the downsides. There seemed to be some... false advertising I guess. On the website it said that on wednesdays, the day my friend and I attended, there was open mic live music which started at 10, however after checking the whole pub there was no sign of any live music, nor any room big enough to accommodate. The website also said there were 3 bars, which there were, but you had to hire them, which wasn't, at least from what I've seen, advertised on the pubs website. And the final thing, they don't take song requests, which isn't a major dealbreaker as most of the music being played was actually quite good, it just kinda irks me a bit considering they were just playing music on spotify and could've easily taken requests as long as they were rock of metal songs
A. H.
Cool bar but most the bars were closed inside. Was quiet and not much life. Also not inclusive if you wear certain clothing they don't let you in
S. P.
Great spooky old haunted bar. Great bar staff, cool movies and a truly fantastic atmosphere all round! My favourite bar in the city ❤️
E. S.
Been a regular night out for me since I was 18. Always love a night in Banshees staff are good crack and the place is always packed. Part of the vaults that run under the bridge so part of Scottish history as well. 🥰💜
w. c.
This is my favourite place to go in Edinburgh. Very Edinburgh, possibly very haunted, and very brilliant. Excellent bar staff.
I'll be haunting it myself, as much as i can.
B. W.
One of my favourite bars in Edinburgh, great vibe, theres always something going on, nice staff and normally friendly people inside.
If you're in Edinburgh (especially around halloween) its a must visit
J. E.
What a crazy place! Lots of little dark rooms and bar areas up and down stairs plus pool table and little cinema room.
Spent a lovely hour or so and will be back.
D.
This pub always really flicks my bean! And if you like haunted pubs this will really flick your bean too! The pitcher was quality and I loved the art on the walls.
S. S.
Super cool spot! Go on in and roam around the underground depths of Edinburgh with a pint in hand!
With it's catacomb feel, entertaining yourself with a game of pool, social setting or a movie in the chill theater room. I'm sure you enjoy it's spooky atmosphere and wondering tunnels of old!
A. M.
Just had a fantastic 1 hour comedy slot with Obie. Brilliant crowd participation and some ad lib in places from Obie. He absolutely had the whole crowd taking part on his journey.
The Banshee Labyrinth is a pub come night club turned into a comedy venue for the Fringe. Beers were good and cheap, staff were pleasant, what more can you ask for😉
Well done all.
L. B.
Interesting bar. Supposedly haunted and has been decorated to the dirty/grunge look of most rock/goth bars. Movie art on the walls and wear and tear and to the feel. Great idea having a cinema room and pool rooms. Would like to spend time in here if I had longer to visit. Star knocked off due to the toilets being poorly kept and uncomfortable
J. K.
Visiting from the US, went on a Wednesday night when they had an open mic. Full band setup. Earlier in the evening, seems like a lot of 'bands' show up to play together, which was pretty great. Lots of unique cover songs along with some originals. Towards the end of the night, people hop on and off instruments and just jam together, which i was welcomed to join in as well (drummer). That was the best part of the night for sure. It's a good thing music is a universal language
N. R.
Music too loud in side rooms. Not enough rooms open earlier on in the evening, makes it very crowded. Bar quite good. nice setting.
H. E.
Great atmosphere, good range of drinks. Love the cinema!!! We watched a movie whilst having a beer. The basement was cool too!!
D. H.
Excellent alternative/rock bar with a very interesting interior. Loved the spooky/Halloween décor going on. Labyrinth is appropriate too, it just keeps going
F. G.
Really cool place, with a really cool aesthetic and vibes, serve good drinks too, a must go, beats going to a generic bar or club.
D. C.
Great little venue to play, fantastic sound engineer and atmosphere.
Good bar, with reasonable prices considering location.
R. J.
Very unusual layout for a bar which is well utilised. Spooky / metal theme which I really like and the staff are great. I'll be back!
A. R.
Great bar that we always try to visit when in Edinburgh. Decent prices for a city centre, and they always seem to try and have a couple of unique drinks on offer at the bar. Crowd was a good mix, and we've seen metal gigs in the basement and films in the cinema there too. Love this place.
S. R.
This has got to be the best bar to while away the fringe in great staff plenty of bars and 3 different areas for shows all underground with a great gothic atmosphere
D. T.
Bar staff are very professional no matter how busy the venue happens to be. I wish there was far more live music.
J. B.
Amazing pub, great bar staff. Something a bit different. Would definitely reccomend. 👍🏼
S. A.
Loved it so much! The best pub I've been to wish there were more like that where I lived! The most unique, one of a kind pubs that even if you don't like rock you would still enjoy the quirkiness of it. The highlight of my visit to Edinburgh and will definitely be revisiting later in the year!
J. D.
Absolutely amazing place! It really is a labyrinth, so just have fun exploring. Grabbed some beers and watched a B horror film. Wonderful night!!
J. B.
Best rock bar/pub I've ever been to! Downstairs live band room with bands daily! Separate bar for drinking upstairs and beat of all a free cinema showing films all day long for those that just want to relax with a pint and movie!!!! Would highly recommend a visit if in Edinburgh
G. C.
Quirky dog friendly pub in central Edinburgh. The staff are great and they regularly host live music and fun events
J. M.
Loved this place, such a cool concept to have different themes rooms all based around the maze with a gothic theme 👌 great prices for drinks as well, with £5 cocktails, which were perfectly strong enough 👍 great venue, would 100% be returning on my next visit to Edinburgh
N. C.
What an awesome, spooky experience. The place is well decorated with many different rooms and bars. It even has its own cinema
K. K.
Great place for drinks! We loved the cinema :)
A. D.
Brilliant bar, great atmosphere and the love music was awesome
B. S.
Such a cool place. We ordered drinks, and then just wondered around and found a pool table and a cinema, where they played awful movies
R. B.
Getting a bit rundown these days. Still its a good pub ,well worth the visit if your in edinburgh.
F. O.
I've never been so cold indoors. I know my rating is a bit unfair as I was there in the afternoon just after it opened, & can see it as a great party location.
C.
I expected more about it.. we were 3 years ago in Edinburg and wanted to visit this place because of the reviews.. It was closed than.. Now back to Edinburg and visited Banshee Labyrinth. It was ok but not great. Music a bit loud for a 'quirky', 'mistery' place... Use some soft live music and some sort of mystic atmosphere... this is really below expectations. Sorry.
C. R.
Cool bar with multiple rooms. Saw a standup comic and had some pints.
Great service!
A.
Very original bar, friendly bar staff and reasonable drinks prices
J. I.
Cool.
Dark.
Spontaneus Conversations possible.
Fit goth / alt types.
Deliciously confusing layout if you are tipsy.
Recommended.

One of the best rock bars in town! Called "Edinburgh's most haunted pub" it's certainly in a spooky location, built into the tunnels and caves below the bridges (you can also take a ghost tour here with another company). Gig space, games rooms, multiple bar areas, great music, great staff and security and always a good pint! Definitely worth a visit and check out their other bar too- The Black Rose 🖤 5*
K. G.
Not gonna attach pics, there are some on here already but personally, this is the kind of place you want to truly experience and discover on your own!! Best described as a horror theme, in a labyrinthian dungeon!! The cinema is totally awesome, and I made SO MANY international friends laughing and screaming together at the campy B movie zombie film that played on screen!! The vibe here is fun, energetic, and invigorating!! I went back all 3 nights we stayed!! Made friends w the staff, and I have already started working on another trip to Edinburgh JUST to come back and party again!! SO many drink choices, pool, karaoke and open mic, and tons of cool creepy things to check out!! Shout out to Chris the bouncer, for being such a sport!! Love you guys, cant wait to "come back home" next time!! Ahhh found my people, I did!! 😍❤💎🤘😜🤜🤛💀🎉😘
M. L. D.
Great metal bar! Recomended if you're a metalhead!
D. H.
It was awesome, the place literally IS a labyrinth. I had SO much fun
D. T.
Was a lovely atmosphere in the karaoke room defo be going back x
l. K.
Wow! What a place! Haunted pub over 3 floors with lots of wee rooms leading off the main corridor and A CINEMA!!! Free horror movies playing till 3am. Would not like to be the last person locking up this place at night, creepy but soooo cool! Definitely well worth a visit.
J. R.
Been in there a few times and ive been scratched on my neck and chest every single time i was there so i have no doubt that the banshee is haunted by a poltergeist or some sort of demonic entity.
B. S.
One of the most interesting places in Edinburgh. Would definitely recommend it for a fun night. There is a cinema room where you can either watch a movie or a comedy show. There is an open mic bar where you listen to random artists. Nothing fancy. Would recommend.
T. B. T. F. T. E.
Banshee is an intimate live music venue with stadium quality sound ! A great place to see bands
K. I.
Always a great night out, amazing staff and a cinema too!
D. G.
A quirky bar that's reputated to be the most haunted in Edinburgh, it is full of charm and charisma.
As the name suggests it's a Labyrinth in there with 3 bars, 1 live music room, and 7 rooms in total, not to mention one that will blow you away when you find it. I'll leave that for you to seek out yourself.
The staff are lovely. In fact, I adore them all. They'll look after you if you treat them with respect, as you would anywhere.
Remember, after they close, there's nowhere to go for them to unwind, except home. They're beautiful people, and all who work these shifts, likewise.
Definitely on my list of favourite pubs of all time, and like another home to me...
C. D.
A great little spot to see a band and have a pint
a.
what a place!! different, cool, great music
C. H.
We were recommended to visit the Banshee Labyrinth by a couple of friends and it did not disappoint! Fun atmosphere and spooky vibes, decent music, average priced drinks and friendly staff. They put zombie land on for us in the cinema. We had a great night and would definitely come back!
E. L.
Great pub, great staff and great line up of fringe shows, all of which are free entry
R. M.
Was here for the Fringe. An amazing labyrinth of venues and bars. A definite must for acts or to chill out
L. V.
This place is cool! Several different rooms from cinema, bars, till dancing floor. Free entrance and reasonable price for drinks. Definitely recommended!
M. P.
Wow, what a find. Loved it, so quirky. Its not "posh" but I find those places very artificial & lacking in atmosphere. Great eclectic mix if people from all ages too. Best room was the cinema showing the Exorcist!
R. h.
Lovely bar staff good prices.maxxim was great actually.
Only let down was dirty toilets .
S. H.
Taken over by the Fringe I suspect this place is better outside of the fringe festival. A lot of it was closes due to that.
L. A.
Well... I'm not sure how we ended up here but it was definitely worth it. The drinks were good, the place was just weirdly wonderful and it had a free cinema too. We watched Flash Gordon which I must say was the weirdest movie ever but I guess it suited the general atmosphere. Oh and there was a pool table in the basement which was cool.
M. P.
Great experience there, lots of fun, very friendly bar stuff. Definitely recommend
See you next time there :-)
M. Z.
Amazing bar!!! Best staff - really put up with us on a Monday and were super friendly. Very different to most bars, too.
J. G.
Good place for drinking something
E. T.
Open til the wee, small hours, The Banshee Labyrinth plays host to all sorts, but is particularly inhabited by those from the alternative scene, meaning it is open minded and run by awesome staff. There's a cinema, unisex toilets and a maze of rooms and areas so you can lose your friends while trying to find a table! Great selection of drinks, including some rather tasty shots!
A. R.
This place is so fun and makes me happy! They are very accommodating to student societies and have a nice array of cocktails, mocktails and more. The kareoke is a laugh and the staff are lovely.
G. K.
The place has a nice atmosphere with multiple bars.
a. h.
Very cool and unique bar love all the different areas and the tone of the bar. But the cocktails were poor but again it's not looking to be a cocktail bar. Would go again tho
S. D.
Great cocktails at a reasonable price and amazing atmosphere!
B. M.
Great pub... didn't see any ghosts though...
R. H.
One of a kind venue in the underground city of Edinburgh. The maze takes you through various rooms that include everything from heavy metal concerts to a cinema.
L. S.
Really great place - very interesting and unique. Awesome music playing and nice friendly atmosphere. Staff were friendly and polite. I've never been anywhere like it, and I loved it. Will definitely return.
J. H.
Great fun. As the name suggests, a labyrinth of rock and horror influences. Free cinema, dance floor, pool table, numerous bars and some tucked away drinking spaces - something for everyone (provided you're not expecting something upmarket!). Would highly recommend.
j. l.
I didn’t see any ghosts but something unexplainable to my mind happened... I stood very still to take a photo of stairs to bar 13 and the preview showed a clear photo, I didn’t take another looking back at the photo it was blurred as if I took it in a rush but I didn’t 🤯
J. S.
Great place to go, even on a Sunday evening. Really chill vibes with options to sit and watch a movie in the cinema, listen to live music, or hang out in the several bar rooms. Drinks were good, unique and well priced.
A. A.
Felt safe, sold Guinness, confusing toilets though
J. S.
Tons of fun, so much to look at. drinks are always good, staff are so friendly. Great atmosphere, the main rock/alternative bar in edinburgh now, if not the ONLY.
E. F.
Brilliant night out! Defo recommend. Music was brilliant...so many bars under one roof 😊
T. T.
I could come here almost every night. Went to a metal show one night (great bands, BTW), poetry reading the next (amazing Dead Poets Society commemoration), and the cinema in the back is usually playing something great. Hard to get bored in this place. The vibe is unique and just plain awesome. The staff is outstanding, drinks are good, and the music is typically on point. Definitely a must-visit venue!
S. B.
Incredible bar! Great staff, amazing drinks and there’s even a cinema! Plus they’re inclusive to everyone! Coolest place in Edinburgh
N. M.
Solid bar, lots of cool nooks to explore!
N. J.
Never had a bad time there. Good environment and friendly staff. Always a good time for a more chilled out rock/metal/alternative bar. And the karaoke nights are amazing 👏
P. H.
Really cool atmospheric pub on three levels. Definitely a place to visit when you're in Edinburgh.
S. S.
This is kind of a cool place to go, with campy Halloween decorations and a little ghost story. Fun to take pictures of the skeletons and you can pose in the stocks.
L. O.
Very interesting. Several different bars, only one was open but it was very eclectic
M. S.
Labyrinth is a great description. Room after room of dark, seedy spaces playing rock and with friendly staff. Great drink selection too. Will go back the next time we visit Edinburgh.
G. A.
The single greatest bar in Edinburgh, end of conversation.
P. B.
What an awesome place to have a drink. It's quirky, haunted and has a cinema!! What more can you ask for? 🎥 👻
E. K.
Very cool place, quite an interesting history as it is part of the underground city so supposedly haunted. Drinks were a pretty reasonable price and pretty strong and actually really nice which is always a bonus! Great vibe, with lots of seating. Music was quiet enough that you can actually chat with your group of people. Nice bar to check out if you're in the area!
H.
Loved this place! The cocktails were fantastic. By far the coolest bar I've ever visited
b. w.
Always one if my favourite bars to go to
K. H.
What a fun place! We watched a show in the cinema. Wandered the labyrinth and drank some good beer. Great place!
D. I.
First time in Edinburgh and my mates who live there recommended this place more that anywhere else. I was not disappointed in the slightest! Don't think I've ever been anywhere quite like it, absolutely have to return here next time I visit.
P. w.
Fun place and very nice staff. If you are visiting Edinburgh you definitely should visit it this place.
H. D. K.
Amazing place to go for a drink! With many different bars and options to choose from. Ranges from the typical pub to a metal venue. Good selection of drinks. Great atmosphere! You can feel the chill and this is a great way to use the underground tunnels. Amazing. Another plus is the cinema room this place has. Really a treat! Don't skip a visit if you happen to be in Edinburgh. Unique and Totally worth it.
T. H.
Great place, loved the building and the theming. Only down side was it was cold, but tbf it was January in Scotland and basically in a cellar...would definitely go back here though.
W. S. M.
Amazing bar I loved everything about this place, the spookiness the coffin shaped tables the staff the merch the cocktails the rooms that were like dungeons the old creepy photos etc music was ace to lol
J. C.
Got drunk, sang karaoke, left with some money still in my wallet.
B. M.
One of the coolest bars I've ever been in. If you like drinking in cool dark spooky places and you don't like fighting over tables this is basically paradise. Tons of tables, massive bar with tons of nooks to drink in. Plus they constantly are playing scary films in they're own theater which is free for customers.
A. A.
cool spot. good music. decent prices.
G. G.
Great place for a gig, nice pints. Love the cinema! The draught and the sour smell adds to the labyrinth vibe!
A. C. A.
My favourite place every time I visit Edinburgh ❤️ just fantastic👏
R. W.
Cool alternative bar with a cinema, stage etc a labyrinth of rooms.
C. T.
One of my favourite bars in Edinburgh. Love the cinema and how there are so many different sections. Always something fun and exciting happening, no matter what day of the week it is. Drinks are reasonably priced. A must visit if you're into rock and metal.
J. H.
One of the coolest bars I've ever been to, the cinema was the icing on the cake, great decor and friendly staff!
V. S.
So much fun! Great staff and location! The best night out experience you'll have!
L. B.
A wonderful laid back bar that hosts an array of alternative events from music to magic and cinema to caberet, there is always something on to keep you entertained
G. E.
Handy if you want a late night drink.
K. L.
Really fascinating club/cinema/bar. I liked the maze-like layout and the weird, niche cinema. Definitely not for dancing but it's free entry so I would highly recommend popping in, having a drink with friends in some dark corner, playing a game of pool or even sitting through half a disturbing film.
A. S.
Was in Edinburgh with my girlfriend for the weekend. Unfortunately we discovered this pub on our last night there. By far the most charming and interesting pub we came across. Plays decent music if you're into rock/metal. There are many different rooms, some with their own bars, and spooky hallways to explore. They even have their own cinema and we watched a complete film there. 5/7, perfect rating, would highly recommend it!
A. S.
A great central alternative pub, trans and non-binary friendly. You will get outfit envy of the other customers, there are some awesome outfits there.
E.
By horror lovers and geeks for horror lovers and geeks! Several rooms to sit and chat, good music, two bars - and the absolute BEST part: a small cinema that shows nerdy, horror movies every night! For FREE! The perfect way to spend a night if you're tired of the pub hang. I love this place.
A. C.
Quirky place, a must visit if in edinburgh.
D. M.
Been here many times. Much more than just a bar. Staff friendly they are the best. The themed cinema nights are the best thing. Whether you want a chill night, a crazy techno night, live music, etc, you can find it here depending on the day. Very Special place
k. o. (. K.
Great atmosphere savage drinks
B. T.
Love this place, even if you wanting a few drinks with friends or out on a night out. This is the place to go
I. B.
Can never make up my mind about this place. It's open late, lots of weird spaces at various bars/cinema nooks and crannies. Alternative 'rock' crowd. But it's never felt right. Weird. And weirdos.
J. J. M.
Such a fun experience if you love old horror and want a cheap good lunch with fun drinks!
H. M.
Fantastic place for a quiet drink (especially the cinema). There's always something on be it a gig or a drag show (Which I would highly reccomend). Good range of whiskys, spirits and cocktails. And their new gender neutral toilets!
E. W.
Well what can I say about this pub, you have got to visit the banshee labyrinth to experience it and make your own mind up. I personally love it, spooky dark tunnels with a creepy atmosphere, lovely clean toilets, nice staff
R. A.
I love this place! They have a free cinema almost every day, lots of seats to sit at and talk with friends, a huge range of drinks, and the Chamber Room which frequently has live music or karaoke or some other event! If you like rock music and a spooky/gothic aesthetic then you should definitely pay it a visit!
M. U.
Fabulous multi floor/multi room late night bar with a rock/goth vibe. Lovely staff too
C. W.
Really cool horror themed bar. All flavours of Dead man's fingers Rum available!
N. K.
Love this place I've been going for year I came to this place when it was Nicole Edwards bar. Would recommend to anyone. Great staff and friendly vibe
L. A.
A nice, gritty, dark pub. Very interesting venue for science festival talks. The staff are upbeat, friendly and serve cheap drinks quickly.
There's also a theatre room that shows movies. Great fun.
S.
Stylish place with a soul.
We went there on Thursday, had some beer and went downstairs for the drag show. Very cheap only £2 to see it, but it was great and is worth much more, so do not forget to leave the tips!
Enjoyed my time there.
C. G.
A surprising and excellent bar near central Edinburgh. Great music, lots of rooms to discover with jukeboxes, a pool table, downstairs gig room and a cinema screening random programmes and movies (Red Dwarf night was happening when we were in).
Fairly decent prices, a good selection of beers and spirits, and friendly staff. Highly recommended.
A. B. (. B.
Excellent theme! Low-priced, pre-made cocktails served cheaply in a fun bar. Impressive decor extends underground into their private dungeons and cinema.
A. C.
A really cool bar / fringe venue! The staff are some of the friendliest in Edinburgh, will definitely come again next time I'm in the city xx
T. F.
Great venue, loved being able to sit down and drink with my mates while watching a movie or move to another room and chill there
S. F.
This place is awesome!! The most haunted pub in Scotland and it has plenty of nooks and crannies for the ghosts to hide. Throw in a cinema room showing free films and a live music room and you can't go wrong. Absolutely brilliant!
O. E. H. F.
I absolutely love it here. The staff are so friendly and very helpful especially with me being disabled and having issues with the stairs. The venue itself is very welcoming and drinks are very reasonable.
Definitely recommend this place to friends and family
P. B.
Brilliant venue lots a crazy tunnels. Sat watching Jay and silent Bob with a pint of cider . Sureal experience like nothing I've ever seen in a venue before
D. C.
Brilliant bar, easy to get lost in but worth wandering around! Lovely themed cocktails and a cinema!
P. V.
Great venue, especially during the Edinburgh Festival. Labyrinth by name and nature, this pub is made up of many small rooms on multiple levels. Regular live music (usually rock/metal) also makes this a great go-to venue.

Loved it! Great place. Good beers. Good entertainment most days of the week. Free cinema. One of the last truly GREAT bars out there. Top class!!!
m. s.
This is one of my favourite rock bars in Edinburgh. It's an absolute...well... labyrinth!
There's a pool table room, a pole room... all sorts! The music is rock, but there is a jukebox as well so you can put anything you like on. It's open late.
a.
One of the few unique drinking holes left in Edinburgh (RIP Jekyll and Hyde, we still miss you). It really is a labyrinth. Lots of rooms, with different styles and uses, including a dim and medieval feeling "banquet" room, a pool room, and a cinema! Horror and scifi movies are the main staple in the cinema. On any given night you might also find poetry, album release parties, magic, some nerdy quizzes and panel shows, stand up, drag acts, burlesque... It's also the main home of the Edinburgh Horror Festival. Beers on tap are limited to the likes of Tennent's, though there's usually a guest ale, and local bottled beers. Spirits are a bit better if you're a whisky fan. Cocktail menu is phenomenal. Accessibility wise there are a lot of steps, as it's set in the "underground" vaults of South Bridge. The toilets are ALL mixed gender. The music can be quite loud, so sensory folk may have trouble with conversations in some rooms.
H. E.
The cinema is a great place for society events and lounging around in, I always come here for a nice fun time with friends.
c.
An absolutely phenomenal bar. Definitely a hidden gem, especially as it's directly on the beaten path!
Awesome prices, lovely staff and wonderful music. I can't wait to be back to catch a late night horror
C. B.
Great place to be. Freaky pub, very good selection of drinks.
G. E.
After moving from Edinburgh to Glasgow, this is the place I miss most.
K. d.
was okay staff were very friendly and prices very reasonable
M. D.
Great for nigh out or gig of a local band ( although you can get international artists here as well). Banshee has at least three bars, a cinema and dance floor as well as pool table and plenty tables. They do take reservations.
Also it's on the list of the most hunted places in Edinburgh which is pretty cool. Must visit!
M. S.
One of my favourite alternative bars in Edinburgh! Lots of wee bars (rooms inside), great music and a nice selection of drinks! The music is generally not too loud so it is great to meet friends and have nice conversations!
S. S.
The coolest pub. A real labyrinth with some creepy history. I recommend taking the underground walking tour of the southbridge, then going here for a drink to calm your nerves. They don't serve food, but they have free movies, and pool. The wifi is a bit spotty in some "rooms" but the place is made of stone, what do you expect?
C. K.
Lovely vibe, welcoming staff and so many cool events. Genuinely glad to live close by the Banshee.
J. M.
Great Atmosphere, great drink. Good prices, always busy.
C. O.
Fantastic venue. The theme is a bit gothic, but it's a venue for everybody who likes it quirky. 4 different bars, a dance floor and a free (!!) cinema, which plays horror classics late in the evening.
J. W.
Great venue with a really unique vibe, the small tunnels and caves really add to the great atmosphere. Staff are super friendly but drinks were very expensive, i'll put that down to it being during the fringe festival.
R. S.
Love it.No ghosts but top rooms.Karaoke in some days and decent choice of drinks
D. M.
Great themed bar, heaps of room and options for things to do inside. From a cinema to pool, there's something to keep everyone occupied.
Friendly staff with good prices.
b. h.
Amazing venue, just like being in a dungeon.
Great for small intimate shows, also it has a cinema that always shows classic movies.
Nothing beats watching a movie with a cold beer.
R. G.
Great place, amazing vibes.
p. d.
What can you say about THE most haunted pub in Scotland...? It did feel a bit odd of an atmosphere,if the walls had eyes and ears I'm pretty sure they could tell a story or two... Run by really nice folk, and some good beers..Well worth a visit when you are next in Edinburgh 👌
c. p.
Always been an interesting place with little alcoves and a free cinema, however doing the underground lost city walk explains alot about how this place came about and is very intriguing
P. D.
Came in here to watch a comedian from the fringe. Very old building with lots of history. And apparently haunted . All this is very spookingly interesting. Great place with lots of rooms. And good drinks and staff. Worth a visit .
N. S.
Awesome bar and cinema screen
Z. S.
Visit on Tuesdays n Sundays for amazing Karaoke nights.
P. P.
Great venue, friendly bar staff & good Fringe comedy show! We'll need to go back for the live music sometime.
D. Y.
After wandering for a while with a friend from abroad that wanted some pub-grub haggis, we popped in here. The haggis was brilliant.
Great music, nice atmosphere and -unfortunately- we never saw a ghost!
I'll come back again, possibly bringing my tourist friends as well!
J. s.
It's a decent club with a variety of events on during the week. Open mic night is on a Wednesday, don't be afraid to give it a shot there's guitars and drums and the availability of backing tracks.
J. K.
Edinburgh's most haunted pub. Apparently. Has several floors, a small-ish stage area for live gigs, and a cinema. Is usually busy and loud, and a good choice for a Halloween night out. The cinema plays an odd mixture of 70's/80s horror classics, comedy and mainstream (though never current) releases.
Good fun, but a bit grimy (which is either a good or a bad thing, depending on what you're after), and service can sometimes struggle when it's busy.
S. W.
An amazing venue. Dark, gothic and historic, with its little vaults, nooks and crannies. It literally feels like a maze at times! Love the decoration of skulls and skeletons dotted around the bars too. Definitely one for the goths, metalheads and rockers
L. K.
A rather unique style of bar. Seems like a down scale drinking pub on the outside, but is actually a Labyrinth of bars, cinema rooms, seating areas and more. Great atmosphere, good beer.
T. K.
Not your regular kind of bar. Offbeat, freaky, queerish - absolutely a "must visit" place in Edinburgh! Went in for a drink and ended up watching RoboCop in a cozy mini theater, then wandered in their labyrinths straight into the Freakeasy show 😍😍😍 One of the best nights ever!
R. P.
This is my go to place. Lovely staff, lots of nooks and crannies and it's a very comfortable place to me.
I. L.
The quintessential place for a late night drink on one of those nights when you don't know you've had too much but wan to party on. A labyrinth of wee alcoves and vaults you'll be bound to find the kinda of spot that suits your style or company. Check out the free cinema in the early evening too. Very Edinburgh!
S. G.
Really a labyrinth! Great alternative pub with entertainment. Free cinema or mini theatre plays. Cocktails are pre-mixed, don't expect cherry on top stuff, but it doesn't cost a fortune. The whole thing looks damn interesting. If I would be a local, this would be my bar.
S. V.
Absolutely love this place, many rooms, dark and gothic, good selection of drinks, cheerful service and there is even a cinema! Had a lot of fun and will definitely come back next time we visit Edinburgh!
A. M.
One of the best bars in Edinburgh. Great music, good drinks and love all the little nooks and crannies. Even though we live in Leith, Banshee's is our "local"
G. A. C.
Great pub with lots of nooks and crannies. Plus a pool table!
M. S.
Cool wee place but by Christ I remember why I never visit Edinburgh. It's like London: everything is extortionate! Went on a Saturday night and the place was empty which I found weird but appreciated it as I had expectations everywhere would be mobbed.
R. E.
Our favourite spot to grab a drink in Edinburgh. Really unique and very welcoming crowd
M.
Rock bar open till 3 with lovely staff and built into Embra's underground caverns. Various nights have anything from karaoke, open mic, and sometimes nights of cheese, classic rock, and even trance! Gem of a bar
G. W.
Visited here for a friends birthday and never got to see much of it bar the room that I was in but I loved it.
Friendly staff, drinks weren't too expensive, music was good and more importantly, loud.
C. D.
What a great place for a gig or even a drink or film
U. C.
Just loved loved it! It was a movie night and friends were watching Godzilla part I, the English dubbed one! Great fun..made all the more memorable as I was with friends :)
V. P.
The bar plays pretty good music and has a good crowd. Thoroughly enjoyed my time there the couple of times I went. Will be coming back
J.
Love this place. Favorite bar in Edinburgh. Incredibly nice staff who have helped out when in uncomfortable situations from rowdy drunk men. Great cocktails.
L. A.
very unique place to drink and a great escape. Could literally spend the whole day there. Cinema room is an excellent touch and the frequent gigs are great to see.
D. S. P.
I always enjoy coming to this bar whenever in the Burgh, great staff and I love all the separate rooms in the venue. If you have never been, just go out of devilment as you never know, you just may get hooked on the place.
M. N.
Went for a "free" fringe comedy night on a sunday night. Was best free comedy event in a long while, the obnoxious heckler who was "forced" out just added to the performance experience. This pathetic heckler with no heckle patter other than this is rubbish was hounded out not by the performers but the unity an kick back of the audience who rounded and isolated him by emptying one whole side of the venue leaving him isolated except for his girlfriend who also described his actions as those of a lady part.
D. B.
Amazing bar! Can't wait to get back to it.
P. A.
Nice place to go for a pint, a live concert or a free movie! All in the same place. It is a must if you are new to the place, the only drawback is that it is small and a bit touristy so you might get bored of it eventually.
R. M.
Fantastic place, we asked the doorman what's it like and he said it's very random but you will enjoy it. And we did! Plenty of rooms and a secret cinama.
Great fun!
C. D.
It's so cool in here. Even though the bar is small the staff are friendly and made me feel welcome. Downstairs is creepy which I love.
L. R.
There's a free cinema and you can take good beer with you there. Do you need more to love this place? Nice atmosphere, a cd jukebox, live music...
C. A.
This pub is a must see in Edinburgh. Good selection of beers and a unique atmosphere for horror movie lovers. They also have pool tables, cinema and concerts.
W. P.
Very atmospheric good place
F. C.
Great food, amazing views, would have given 5 stars if not for OliverPaul found it mildly condescending. We would have had a lot more fun if only Oliver wasn't there
S. T.
Amazing as always staff so friendly and cocktails are awesome 👌
A. L.
Awesome place, karaoke downstairs and a cinema upstairs
M. v.
The Banshee is a literal underground bar, with a lot to explore. tunnels shaping into caves/rooms and specific attractions (one of them holds a second bar, the other a pool table and downstairs you get a wee venue for gigs and performances of the varied kind). They also have a cinema that runs daily showings for free. definitely an unusual must see place if you are in Edinburgh.
P. G.
Dark rock bar / club with lots of rooms that turn into venues during the Fringe as part of the Free Fringe. Well managed events which is not easy given the huge success of Richard Gadd in 2015 and 2016. Decent clean taps for draft.
A. A. R.
This place is extraordinary. It has a singular creepy atmosphere (it is Halloween everyday). This place has a cinema room. You can watch film for free and it can be hire for private event.
S. C.
One of my favourite places in Edinburgh. Bit expensive but great atmosphere, great crowd, tonnes of variety and always something good on in the cinema. Highly recommended.
F. D.
Very nice and suggestive pub. With free cinema and live music. Lights, in some corners of the pub, could be a bit brighter. For the rest I'll highly suggest you to go!
S. K.
Varied social spaces, free cinema, and drinks. Great way to spend your time with friends :) I like to pop into the cinema with a drink if I'm in the city in the evening waiting for someone.
D. T.
Nice place. Really dig the theme. The only reason for a four star review is that the music in the pub is too low. Crank it up a notch and it'll be magic!
D. M.
Just what we needed, music and drink!
C. F.
Very cool place for people who like rock and metal music. Lots of options of bars and different rooms. Live music as well keeping that gig vibe alive.
a. b.
awesome bar! don't know how I feel about the sign regarding the young girl who went missing - it was maybe a but cutesy for a dead kid?- but the place is absolutely brilliant!
J. M.
Banshee Labyrinth is a good wee alternative pub with a cinema room and often has gigs and events on.
G. A.
Saw Obie the comedian at the Edinburgh fringe loved the venue loved. The show. Would come back. \m/etal fan.
C. D.
Very cool pub with a cinema in the back. Staff at down to earth and the decor is excellent. Drinks are extortionate however at upwards of £5 for Lager.
H. M.
Always a great night! Keep discovering hidden rooms and the fact you can just go to the cinema and watch a horror movie whenever you feel like it is always a treat!
D. D.
Braw place. Fine choice of drinks and a weird and wonderful bunch of people to chat to whether.
9/10, would visit again. Would achieve 10/10 if i was provided free buckfast upon bar visits
R. D.
This could be my favourite bar on the planet! With its great vibe, awesome staff, cheap (and delicious) drinks, awesome and varied music, and best of all, a cinema room!
T. Y.
Really had a nice time here.
Bouncer didn't need to be so loud when leaving though
A. M.
A bar well worth checking out when separating the wheat from the chaff of the plethora of pubs in the city centre, atmospheric& lives up to it's name
B. B. D. C.
I went there last Halloween, my expectation was very high about the place. However it couldn't be get. Honestly I didn't like the place . Drinks are ok, and price is good .
J. S.
Hilarious night out great for beers, people watching and movies. Went on the Friday night and then again Saturday and Sunday! Loved the cinema and good selection of movies!
R. T.
I'd go back, but I'm not in a hurry.
U. B.
Great nrvue for the fringe. Loved Joe Rowntree, Harman leon's show and the Skeptics Society Lecture. Many more good shoes were on the list that we just didn't have time to seem good dark ale too.
J. H.
One of the best bars in Edinburgh. Said to be haunted, it also comes with its own cinema and dance floor. All bases for a night out are covered!
H. T.
My favourite rock bar in Edinburgh. Live bands in the basement, cinema room on the top, and 3 pub rooms in between. Must visit!
H. A.
Loved the venue only thing that let's it down is the fact gender neutral toilets means both toilets just smell like the gents now🤷♀️there is a disabled toilet, saving grace👌✌️
N. B.
It's not the fanciest place in town, but if you like rock music, labyrinthine corridors, cult movies, the odd gig/club night, and even late-opening places with corners quiet enough to have a chat, this place is ideal. It's reasonably cheap too.
A. D.
Great looking place if you're looking for a somewhere out of the ordinary. Lots of little rooms with an urban gothic feel and even a free small cinema!
J. M.
Nice place. Cheap drinks and good staff
S. P.
Lots of rooms showing various gigs. Nice selection of drinks. The bar is small and can get busy
B. M.

W. M.
Open till 3 am, always some "interesting" customers but most importantly it sells beer, lets face it - you're not coming here for the conversation!
K. B.
I get why this place is called a labyrinth, it just seems to go on and on around tiny corners. It's full of character, busy and has the usual selection of drinks on offer.
