Reviews of The Black Bull
r. m.
Great place. Food is good, staff are fantastic although sometimes seem understaffed.
Pub atmosphere and ideal location next to decent shops and the castle. Been back here a few times on my visit just for a beer and relax with a book and a pint before I ordered food.
I’d recommend this place. 👍
S. M.
Extra peppery haggis was very good 😁 also the haggis loaded fries (dirty scottish loaded fries). Fish & chips were also good, but the hagfis with extra pepper was really something else.
L. G.
We sat outside for afternoon drinks in the sunshine. It was very busy in the area generally so we were lucky to get a table for 8 of us. The lovely staff took our orders from the table and then bought them out to us and this was really efficient. Didn't see inside the pub!
M. W.
Best pub meal Ive had in Scotland. Meat was so tender in my pie. very helpful servers.
K. B.
Warm sunny evening - tables outside were Covid friendly and even though we had to 'queue' for a table in the sun - it was worth the wait.
L. P.
Friendly staff, lots of tv's for sport, outside seating and lovely food. Pic is outside the pub looking at the other side of the street.
H. d. W.
Good food, nice environment. We were at Sunday evening and a really nice live artist was performing. Nice place to sit!
M. V.
Nice place with good food and local atmosphere. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great value for money.
E. H.
Very classic Scottish pub! The food was good, not spectacular. The service was great and there is a ton of space for larger groups.
L. C.
Nice and spacious bar friendly service and drinks reasonably priced couldn't fault it
N. C.
Great choice of beers, like a lot of businesses, they seem to struggle with staff recruitment. They were unable to do food so missed out on a lot of trade, excellent service however.
B. F.
A classic Edinburgh pub, right round the corner from the castle. I was surprised to see pork schnitzel on the menu, but was delighted with how it tasted. The sauce was good, but the portion of chips was served in the wee hipster bucket which reduced the quantity provided. Good for some people, but not for someone that craves a good potato intake. Haggis fritters were of an excellent quality too.
P. B.
Dog friendly.
Huge bar off of Grassmarket that sell awesome ‘True Scotsman Fries’ fries covered in haggis, melted Monterey Jack cheese and whisky peppercorn sauce.
Lots of Cold Town beers available on draught lager, New England IPA, peach summer ale and pale ale.
Cornish Orchards cider too.
D.
Only thing that harms a 5star rating is that you have to order at the Bar and be your own waiter.
P. M.
Fantastic jerk chicken burger & my wife had the Sunday roast which was cooked well.
We wanted to watch a specific football game & staff member was accommodating.
G. W. S.
Good ambience, good service lots of seating and a large bar area. Good food available all day. What's not to like???
C. A.
Perfect on rugby days, albeit a bit crowded. Lots of TVs and very good burgers. Would definitely recommend, the walk is worth it if Platform 5 is full!
f.
Decent Guinness pour. Very busy and they are severely understaffed. Down in Grassmarket, about 7 minutes to Edinburgh Castle.
k. M.
It was really nice. The waitress that served us was lovely and the food was amazing. Everything was bought out fast and the portions are a good size. Thank you very much.
L. T.
Me and my partner came here today for food having walked a lot around Edinburgh trying to find somewhere decent. I can not recommend this place enough. My partner had fish and chips and I had the cheese and bacon bull burger and I can honestly say it's the best burger I have tasted in a long time coming from someone who is very fussy! Thanks Black Bull 👍😁
G. W.
Excellent haggis food was great service very good recommended. Family friendly.
F.
Awesome bar staff and the food was absolutely outstanding. Would definitely go back.
C. R.
Great pub with plenty of large screen TV's showing different sports, good food which arrived quickly.
B. M.
Good place to be, big pub big screens all over to watch sports.
D. R.
OK food (bit greasy) but nice staff and good pints.
R. M.
Came here NYE for a few drinks and food. Very polite and efficient table service, food was yummy! Will definitely come back 👍
M. H. H. H.
Good deco food smells great (didn't eat anything) beer was an acquired taste.
D. W.
Great pub to watch rugby in. Good selection of beers. Recommend the nachos too.
S. C.
Very enjoyable afternoon there, pleasant staff.
M. B.
Only popped in here for a quick drink before a Fringe show at a close venue, but the staff were really accomodating. My husband wanted to watch a specific football game and they were more than happy to switch TV channels for him. Good range of beers on tap.
M. P.
Atmospheric, very authentic and friendly staff. Great historic pub!
C. S.
Fantastic food!! Steak Pie was amazing the meat was tender with just enough vegetables and potatoes the waiting time for food was quick and when the food arrived it was hot would go back....
A. R.
A decent Grassmarket pub, with oodles of space within as it goes *all the way back*. By patience and "circling vulture" tactics, we managed to secure a table for the 3 of us after about 1/2hr of getting in on a busy Festival Saturday night. V.Busy, with a concentration of Hen and Stag Do's, but that's probably the case for most of these venues. And because of the size, it didn't feel over crowded.
Reasonable selection of beers, although could do with a few more Ales.
Bar staff were alert, so you didn't have to do handstands to catch their attention and get served at the Counter.
Probably not the most atmospheric Pub in Grassmarket, but a decent pint at a decent price, does exactly what it says on the tin. And given it was the only locale that let us in (all the prior Pubs were chock a block), that makes it a winner in my books.
K. K.
Great service. Very helpful and attentive staff. Good beer selection. Great music. Would wholeheartedly recommend. One of the best pubs on Grass Market hands down.
M. G.
No major complaints here, but nothing to stand out either. Food was tasty with decent portion sizes; can particularly recommend the dirty Scotsman topped fries, though the banoffee pie was uninspiring. Staff were very friendly and courteous, though given how few customers they had the few minor service errors were a little disappointing. It cost about as much as you'd expect for a pub in this part of town. I'd certainly go back for a drink and some of their bar scran if I was in the area, but am in no particular rush.
c. m.
Good relaxed atmosphere in the front, sports bar and partying in the back.
P. P.
It was ok, nothing special. We felt the service was quite poor as we were informed that the kitchen were no longer serving food (just before 8pm on a summer's night during the Fringe), but could do us a portion of chips each. Noticed as we were leaving that people who had arrived after us seemed to have food. Quite strange. Considering the choice of places in Edinburgh, wouldn't bother going back.
A. M.
Over priced. Incredibly difficult to get served, couldn't order at bar and took 15-20 minutes to get attention of staff at times. Messed up our booking even though confirmed on the phone that we had the table for the night, although this did get resolved.
P. W.
Was lovely, hopefully the huns get beat tonight!!
S. I.
Great location of the outside terrace and good food. I’d recommend trying haggis here.
Why one star down: We arrived before the place opened at 12, and took a table with a view to the castle. Staff tried to move us to another table due to a booking at 13:30 for that specific table even though we were the only people at the place (and also had a booking). That was a bit weird.
C. M.
Great night, staff really friendly and good choice of drinks
I.
I been there on many occasions when visiting Edinburgh and always found its a nice place to get some pub grub and drinks....
S. G.
Always friendly staff, good drinks and a nice atmosphere. Doormen are always polite and accommodating
J. B.
Pleasant place for a drink and lunch. Lovely, historic building, friendly staff and better than average pub fare.
J. F.
Great food, great environment. Perfect location in Edinburgh--a must go if you are in the city. Graeme Pearson is an absolute talent and was a lot of fun.
M. P.
Tried to add 10% tip for table service which was put on us by government legislation not by choice.. Mmm don't think so
T. B.
Good local pub and children are welcome also offers student discount up to 20%. Its the sort pub if your in Edinburgh and have kids you can pop in here for meal. It serves good range food and drinks its clean tidy and staff freindly. well worth visit in Edinburgh.
E. E.
Lovely atmosphere, lovely food, reasonably priced x
D. W.
The black bull was my favourite pub in Edinburgh. This sports bar is great for anyone who loves sports and may want to watch live football matches. The staff are incredibly friendly to the point were we offered them a tip. The drink selection is brilliant and you can order it my the bucket load which is exactly what you need when watching sports.
H. M.
Food was amazing and the place was really clean. Only down side was I felt the staff don't have the best customer service could be down to lack of training. Other than that it was a nice experience.
T. T.
Delicious food& cocktails.Great staff & atmosphere.
B. F.
Brilliant. Wonderful pint of Guinness, if a little expensive. Food was superb, service very good, staff very well mannered and helpful. Shame about the sea gulls dive bombing outside.
L. W.
Fantastic pint here and service and staff were brilliant 👏
E. V.
Only popped in for a couple of pints, I did enjoy myself. Staff were friendly and helpful 🙂.
F. D. M.
The staff at The Black Bull is very welcoming and open to find a solution to accomodate the customers' requests and needs.
We arrived a few minutes before the kick off of the football match and they managed to find a table for us, even if we didn't have the chance to book in advance.
The service and food were excellent!
It is a very nice venue right underneath the Edinburgh Castle, so highly recommended!
H. F.
Food was very nice and the young fellow who served us was very pleasant. Would recommend for pub food and chat with friends
W. f.
Cool spot. Sound staff and great Guinness 👍
C. D.
OMG. food here was amazing, ordered CBLT ciabatta with the fresh tomato soup with a side of dirty Scotsman chips(chips covered in haggis and cheddar cheese). Bar good service great. 100% go back.
M. “.
Nice pub, Good prices, Good variety of beer and Whisky. Live music after 9.30pm
J. M.
Excellently positioned in Edinburgh's Grassmarket. We were sitting outside, great for people watching and soaking up the atmosphere. Reasonable prices and friendly staff...
E. S. D.
Great atmosphere ! Best bar staff
V. A.
We've been served right away as soon we've approached the entrance, although there's no more serving outside after 8pm. Regarding covid19 regulations they check your temperature🌡at the door and you will be reminded to wear the mask 😷. All in all nice traditional Scottish pub at the heart of Edinburgh with great staff, lovely food and drinks 🍸
A. O.
Excellent pub,great for watching football!
K. C.
Very nice had a good night there
J. M.
Had lunch hear yesterday. Food was amazing. Staff were 100% sticking to covid. Makes you feel so much safer and happier to stay.
S. W.
Great pub, lovely staff, great GF options
A. “. D.
Great pub location for people watching, appeared to be short of staff, long wait for drinks was table service but had to go bar waited so long.
S. R.
Fab ambience, food ,& drinks, love coming back to this little gem of a pub.
N. Q.
It was a fun pub, with lively people and music.
S. W.

This cheerful pub has good food, extensive whiskies and a friendly vibe.
G. T.
One of the best meat and ale pie ever.
E. M.
Great pub, clean, covid not an issue temp taken on way in best way to drink in edinburgh
A.
Food was great although they pulled the old- if you have kids in here you'll have to order a meal. Truely they can't say that, but I was too hungry to argue.
D. L.
One of the best live music venues in the UK, been twice, would go a million times more, and also amazing bonus, real ale, just yasss
M.
Friendly staff and great drink selection. We didn't eat there, but wouldn't hesitate if we were looking for eatery. The decor was quirky and funny. I would recommend.
L.
Good atmosphere, with very friendly staff! Enjoyed some good food, drinks and sports here 👌🏼
P. S.
Booked the place for the Euros final. The place itself was ok, however, the seats given were not the best. The food was all right but not great. The service was overall was good.
郭.
Great live music. A great way to experience Scottish pub culture.
B. B.
Fantastic service, great traditional Scottish pub food, excellent selection of drinks. Big TVs showing the sports inside, and a large outside area in central grassmarket.
J. L.
Lovely meal great staff

They serve very tasty burgers!
J. M.
Excellent food and friendly staff
E. C.
Quality spot and very helpful staff who went to no end to get the Liverpool game on with sound despite some technical issues.
Nice interior and good music on a weekday night!
Makers mark around £3.50 is unbeatable. Will be back again when in Edinburgh
B. S.
Superb we pub defo o back
m. w.
Great atmosphere, service and staff, friendly. Good food 😁
G. W.
Quick service. Friendly and good food. However the front of house staff was slightly rude and not very welcoming.
J. P.
Good beers. Delicious food - we had nachos and fries. We had fun here. Please fix the left hot water tap on mens toilets, it gets stuck and is constantly pouring hot water :D 4,5/5
J. A.
Great atmosphere when watching the f1
R. A.
Nice large pub based in a pleasant square at the foot of the castle.
L.
Friendly staff and delicious food
L. E.
Lively bar with friendly staff. Food is fantastic, recommend the house haggis 😋
J. W.
Great pub. Had a lovely meal too
J. T.
Great old fashioned pub just round the corner from the castle in the Grassmarket area. Highly recommended.
R. G.
Decent pub clean toilet and friendly staff
P. M.
Great place to watch live sport, plenty of TV,s,friendly staff and a lovely pint of Guinness
N. G.
Very slow service need more waiting staff friendly welcome and a good pint just a bit of a wait for the food.
F. C. H.
Great bar for watching sports and to have some drinks. Very friendly staff and prices are fair.
M. B.
Popped in for a pint and some food. Was a good decision. Great food, fantastic service, friendly staff and just a nice feel to it. Cheers guys.
K. B.
Very nice bar with good music a lot of beer choices and sports on TVs around the bar. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Large groups are welcome as long as they behave themselves. We were glad we could enter as a group.
j. w.
Great place to sit outside and have a drink and meal one if my husband favourite places (watch out for the seagulls)
M. G.
Really great couple of hours spent outside. Weather great, staff very friendly and helpful and drinks went down a treat.
D.
What set this pub apart from the rest would have to be how busy it was yet it didn't feel cramped. Quick friendly service and reasonable prices for an area highly trafficked by tourists. Which was another point, it did not feel like it catered to tourists with tacky promotions.
R.
Not a traditional pub, fast paced and a dynamic menu with American undertones and a sports bar at the back. Loud but not too loud to have a conversation. Staff were friendly and efficient. Very organised with drink and food service.
A. M.
We went for the pub quiz, and found a decent bar with good food. We went out of term-time though the ambiance still verged towards the students, with a raucous group of boys as the front, but when they moved we settled into it for the evening and felt quite at home. (We won the quiz, which helped!)
k. H.
Great bar! Great music thou seam to have the same play list for Friday and Saturday!
C. D.
Went early evening on a weekday for food and drinks. Drink selection and price was good for somewhere so central. Although I did not eat my friend's food all looked very good.
My only gripe was that as the pub got busier the music was ramped up from a pleasant background noise to a noise that had to be shouted over to be heard.
Other than this it was a nice large pub with plenty room and many televisions showing all the current sport.
K. A.
Great place, lovely people very friendly. The food is amazing! Definitely a good place to eat if you enjoy traditional pub food. They also offer 20% off for students.
Y. B.
The food was delicious and the beer really cold. So, perfect 🥰
A. A.
What a fantastic place; one of many to be found in Grassmarket but was my number one choice from the beginning and was glad they could accommodate us.
d. d.
Always have a good time here, the staff are very attentive, great pint of guiness
P. F.
Not to bad even though I don't particularly enjoy pubs with sports TV.
G. E.
Outstanding hosts and service staff who were committed to COVID precautions while ensuring that the experience was amazing. Great sense of humour and service with a masked smile.
E. H.
A nice pub with a large choice of drinks and food. My only downside is the ambiance. It was really quite because of Covid restrictions I would be back after Everything to have a better experience.
L. 2.
Nice food and staff
T. T.
Found this to be an OK pub and no more than that . Tables were quite dirty and no one seems to clean them at all. The staff are friendly enough and they have a good selection of beers and spirit's. You can buy food here but we didn't have any on our visit. Bathrooms are not the best on cleanliness but average for the grass market area of the city
D. M.
Spent a very pleasant Friday lunchtime here. It was pretty quiet. The drinks were reasonably-priced and there are tables in the window where you can watch the people passing in the street. The bar is much larger inside than it looks from the outside.
C. 0.
Great range of drinks, lovely friendly staff. A great atmosphere
J. Q.
Nice pub. But no atmosphere and the ale is awful.
J. S.
Came here for quiz night! 4th place!!
I didn't get anything to drink or eat so I'll just review the quiz organization.
There was one man with a computer reading out the questions with a microphone and after every round, each time had to and in their paper to be graded. There were 6 categories: Movies, Music, Geography, General Knowledge, Science, and Art? (I forgot the last category).
It went really great! It was fast and the questions were a good mix. All teams were located in the back of the pub. My team had a lot of trouble finding a name though: Name of the song Harry and Meghan will dance to on their first dance at their wedding.
Send me your best ones!
The best one, in my opinion, hands down, was a team that picked: Now, I ain't sayin' she a gold digger. But she ain't messin' with no broke Ginger
R. R.
Really comfortable and welcoming bar. Great facilities, well kept beer and friendly staff. Didn't eat but the food looked good
N. V. d. B.
Got here by accident this week but really enjoyed it. There was some live music by Graeme E Pearson but we arrived a bit late to see the whole performance. Good to know for when I return to Edinburgh!
S. W.
A classic old-school Edinburgh pub. Looks small from the outside but quite spacious inside with plenty of tables/seats. Great whisky and beer selection too. Will definitely come back again soon
S. V.
Love this place. Real pub feel with lots of choice and enough seating place for everyone. Live music every night and a good atmosphere makes this pub your first stop in Edinburgh night life!
E. K.
This was my go to pub after a day adventuring as it was right around the corner from my hostel. Great location and great atmosphere. Always sports on TV at night with live music at the front of the bar. The staff was fantastic and made me feel at home.
G. D.
Good food, fair price, friendly staff
D. H.
It's great till they add a 10% discretionary payment to your bill without telling you for table service when you were happy to go to the bar
A. A.
Lovely pub in Haymarket, with good food and live sports.
Very friendly staff.
R. F.
A great trad bar in the Grass market. Fab food & service. 😀🏴🚲🛵
a. d.
I go here once every two years to meet friends before the Scotland v England rugby match. Always packed with a good atmosphere and you never have to wait too long.
S. A.
Good location and even better service. Erin looked after us all afternoon and was a superb! Thanks
P. R.
A touch of the Blarney, in Edinburgh...
I visited today along with my wife, on our first ever "leisure trip" away by train, up from Newcastle, since Covid-19.
Whilst Auld Reekie was more Auld Leaky in Edinburgh today, with rain, despite it being warm, we therefore thought liquid refreshment was appropriate.
We were met at the door by Ricky, who took our details and temperature, took us to a good table, and explained all the current procedures to us easily and friendly.
With my name obviously being Patrick, added to Ricky's soft Irish burr, and finding it leaping off the page to me on the downloadable menu too, I was compelled to go for the Guinness, which was spot on when it arrived.
My wife went for the Cornish Orchards Cider, and advised me that it was "cracking" when it came.
Ricky then answered the various questions I had about how things were since re-opening after Covid-19, from an appropriate safe social distance of course, and with us being in no particular rush whatsoever, another two of the same were duly ordered!
A cracking visit, safe, friendly, and well managed, and as we are in need of weekend night out again soon, now that some measure of normality has returned, albeit subject to safe distancing measures etc rightly in place, we will surely be back again ASAP...
Thank you to all the staff, and especially Ricky, for being a great, welcoming host, and keeping us right.
D. B.
Always been a great pub and service was good in these Covid times
B.
Good Scottish pub. Proces are good not too expensive. Good food.
M. J.
Average basic food and drinks, great location so a great shame
E. G.
Steak burger was amazing, and sitting outside watching the world go by just added to evening
C. M.
Great tasty food, the soup and steak were excellent. Staff nice and helpful would go again and recommend.
D. H.
Food not too bad but service very slow both on food and drinks
s. c.
Good atmosphere nice beer
v. s.
Erin was a great server!! attentive, super friendly and left great impression! ❤️
M. B.
Good atmosphere typical town centre pub
I. P.
Nice drinks,decent loaded fried.
P. B.
The food was good, but the fish was already sold out at 20:30. Also they advertise with live music every Sunday till Thursday, but no live music when we got there on a Wednesday.
J. Y.
Totally recommend this place for food, found the prices very reasonable at lunch time. The food was tasty and served quickly, the staff were friendly and helpful. Thourghly enjoyable experience.
K. H.
We hadn't booked a table but staff were very accomadating and we were given a table. Service was very friendly and very efficient. Would definitely recommend 👌
A. L.
Nice bar. Great area. Good people
R. W.
Lots of fun everywhere in this crowd. Friendly crowd beer and Scotch to suit your tastes buds. dance floor will definitely have its characters which means you will be doing a bit of smiling while your finishing your pint.
T. M.
Quick service and lovely spot in Grass Market to have a drink outside and watch time go by.
J. W.
Traditional boozer in the heart of grassmarket. Great time to spend a wet Saturday afternoon in Edinburgh
A. B.
Yaaaaamy food, great beer
R. D. J.
I was in search of haggis and this place has wonderful real haggis served the typical way. Yea! Nice outdoor seating. Good bar. Good service.
P. L.
Nice place. We 've been here with our children, served before 8 p.m. iris a pub. Rules are rules!we 've just be refused in other restaurant. Thank you.the Edimburg burger is delicious!!!!.
G. M.
The gentleman on the door is a legend. Great place, atmosphere and of course great staff. Scotland could have played better but we had a great time.
B.
Nice big pub and good size of beer pitch out front
K. K.
Nice place to have something nice to eat and drink, lovely stuff !
N. M.
Good atmosphere, good beer, good staff. What else do you need
G. K.
Taylor was our bar tender and Claire was our waitress they both provided exceptional service and are a credit to the black bull . Jamie served us later and was witty and very professional
K. K.
Quick service, the staff were really nice! We stopped in for a beer before catching our flight home, it was a nice place for a send off. Warm atmosphere, and ample seating.
B. S.
Brilliant atmosphere lovely pub .
C.
Nice place, nice music and sport broadcast
M. H.
Nice friendly place to stop by but pricey. The food menu is small and comprises of deep-fat-fried chips, wings and chicken sticks etc. Expensive pints. Tennants was the cheapest at £3.90, the next cheapest lager was Stuarts at £4.50 and Heineken at £4.60. There is a big projector screen to watch sporting events, but the sound is very boomy. All in all a friendly place with nice folk, but due to its location on Grassmarket, it's a bit expensive unless you like Tennants.
s.
Really nice and spacy pub, at 2pm no crowd and relaxing athmosphere.
Had a very good large nachos-plate to share, and a few good pints.
C. M.
The Bull is a fantastic bar great atmosphere and Friendly staff excellent for watching sports.
Drinks are reasonable and the bar have a great selection of beers wines and spirits.
A. M.
Good selection of beers, clean nice atmosphere
鄭.
Nice atmosphere! Good student discount
M. S.
Very tasty Haggies, real ale and whiskey! I recommend that place!
J. x.
OK for a quick drink
L. G.
Very good food. Reasonable prices. Nice staff. We went as a family of four and kids (young teens) liked it too.
D. C.
Food nice. Belhaven beers. Sun shining what more can you ask for
A. L.
Good atmosphere, really nice staff. Even though there were not a lot of vegetarian options they did their best to accomodate us and our requests.
P. B.
Great bar. Wonderful music. People of all countries coming together in Scottish friendship. Getting hammered and dancing together. Fantastic.
J. M.
A colourful pub with rock music on the jukebox and a hearty selection of rums on the back bar. The drinks offering is relatively basic but works for the crowd it caters to.
C. W.
Fabulous pub with great staff and atmosphere. Quality of food very disappointing for price charged and toilets disappointingly not maintained on a very busy Rugby Saturday. Don't sit towards front of pub ...you freeze every time the door opens!
t. m.
Lovely pub inside, nice to watch the world go by.
G. V.
On a Saturday evening, it is hot, uncomfortable and overcrowded. I've been to this pub occasionally over many years, and it's nowhere near as good as it used to be... though that can be said about most pubs!
Z. N.
Just had drinks here. Relaxed atmosphere. Place was clean. You have to order your drinks and food at the bar though.
G. P.
A large bar at one side of the grassmarket. Plenty staff serving so quick to get drinks. Serves a good pint of Guinness. Excellent
K. H.
Lovely place but a poor choice of real ales
R. A.
Staff was attentive despite being really busy and late, food was reasonably cheap and atmosphere is fine until midnight when a swarm of disco-ready 50yo+ invaded the pitch.
W. R.
Only half the beers on tap were working when I visited. It's brew dog so all good but not the best setting as pubs go..
A. M.
Great boozer and great food loved the 6 pint lager dispenser
m. m.
Lovley service and very clean and covid safe, meet and greet lady very nice and helpful.
S. M.
Always enjoy my time here. Good food, good beer and good atmosphere. Staff are friendly as well. Always one of my go to places in Edinburgh whenever I am there.
M.
Nice place and kind staff. Not to expensive. I advise to drink something with a good music.
J. E.
Really great venue, good selection of drinks, good atmosphere with the music and lighting, they have the football on and live music to boot, there's nothing not to like about it
A. C.
it was our first time in Edinburgh. we all really enjoyed the great atmosphere good .music lovely friendly staff
M. G.
Good range of drinks at good prices
P. G.
Large pub in the main drinking area (especially for tourists) with several TVs showing sports and a regular quiz. Decent draft selection but often hard to find a seat / table.
C. B.
Good food and spacious setting. Staff quite rude and very slow service. Not even on a game day either
L. M.
Music was too loud, Staff could be a bit more friendly, beer was good, meals okay. Thumbs up for the 20% student discount from sunday to thursday.
P. A.
Good pub and very helpful staff members
M.
Large pub. Lots of choices for both food and ale.
D. M.
It was ok. Nothing too special. Go to the last drop further up the street
S. K.
Attentive staff, nice atmosphere and pleasant toilets.
K. M.
Great pub, great drinks. Amazing atmosphere. But packed on the weekends. Can hardly move
T. G.
Still have no idea why we were the chosen ones to get table service. But it was great! Staff, guests, everything perfect :)
B. G.
tried the haggis pakoras and the stovies. Very interesting - not something I'd want to have everyday but a relatively unique taste! friendly atmosphere and good service
M. M.
Yes
Yes
And yes
Fully agreed with the amount of TVs

Only niggle toilets do need upgrading
J. C.

Nice pub with good food menu
N. B. P. l. (.
Had drinks and bar snack with friends. Not to expensive for its location. Could do with a few more staff when busy (the rugby was on ) .

Girl on her own behind the bar but service was incredible. Great drinks and all boosted by England beating the All Blacks!
K. M.

P. V.
Great place to visit! One of the oldest pubs. Good options for food and drinks...
D. B.
Took a while to get served but not really the bar guys fault because his colleague seemed to stop serving at our bit of the bar even though he was nowhere near as busy
G. L.
Good friendly service great place to watch sports
S. S.
All of Edinburgh were having staff shortages so this could be why the service was slow.
Ł. D.
Even though the food and drink are great the staff feels a great need to block any sound with their music as the volume is gradually pumped up through the night to an undesirable level.
M. S.
Great food, service and drinks.
J. a. K. M.
Fantastic food in a quaint setting. If you like pilsners try the cold town. Dessert mugs are also quite good
D. T.
Bouncers need to chill a bit. I believe their job is to stop fights and escort troublemakers out, not throwing punches. Other than that just your usual Edinburgh, loud, expensive pub
G. M.
Enjoyed pints. Had look their menu, look good and good price. Might have meal there next time I visit to Edinburgh.

Food is always fresh considering it's an all you can eat banquet & it's very good value for money.

Sound boozer but poorly managed on big occasions. Guinness was good, chap serving it needs bar training or anger management counselling.
