Simply amazing experience! I came in there in search for an interesting whisky to taste and oh boy, did I get what I was hoping for (and more!) Wide range of single malts, plenty of limited editions and independent bottlings, very very reasonable prices. Gentlemen behind the bar knew a lot about it as well, so we had a great chat! Atmosphere was great and cozy, we were quite lucky to come on Sunday evening right before the covid restrictions were lifted, so it was very quiet (which I love:).
Thank you for amazing evening and I will definitely come back when I'm back in Edinburgh!;) And will recommend this place to my friends as well.

Great little pub with excellent service, food and drinks. Ham and cheese and BLT sandwiches were delicious. Servers are very nice and helpful 👍

Great place! Really cozy, with live music, nice waiters, and an incredible whisky selection. 6 pages full of different whiskies, including a short description that allows you understand the difference between the options. Not expensive at all

Lovely bar, great service. Both of the Bar men working when I was in were very nice and helpful. Got a great whiskey recommendation and haven't stopped thinking about it since. Didn't get any photos of the bar itself but here's the whiskey 😊

Famous old pub on the Royal Mile just near the castle.Small friendly atmosphere.Artisan History and popular pub food available can get busy.

Our second visit here because we loved it the first time we visited Edinburgh! Last time we did the whiskey samples and had a total laugh in there, lovely staff and had pizza which was delicious!
This time we had to stay off the drink cos it was home time for us but we popped in for lunch, thankfully we booked because it was super busy. It's well organised in there, well handled during the current COVID nonsense, food comes out quick and the staff are super friendly and welcoming.
I went for soup of the day and a sandwich and he had a pizza he fancied after enjoying them last time. All fast out the kitchen, nice and hot and must have been just as tasty cos our plates were locked clean!!

We wanted a light lunch plus drink. Pizza, toasted sandwiches with delicious fillings were spot on. Couldn't resist their glorious selection of unusual whiskies. Staff were friendly and helpful. Prices were very reasonable and might have been higher given how close we were to the castle

We called in here for lunch on a recent trip and came back again the next evening as it was so lovely. Food was great and there was live music in the evening, young girl playing violin and young man plating accordion. The music was absolutely great, loved it! And the bar staff were very friendly and welcoming 😁

We popped in for a couple of hours and loved the place. The three guys working were really friendly and very attentive. Pizzas were very nice. Based on this experience, I'd certainly recommend this cozy little pub next to Edinburgh Castle.

Great little pub. A group of 9 of us were on the Royal Mile, some wanted to shop, 4 wanted to go to a pub, so we went in and got a table and put in our order. One by one the others in our group joined us, the staff were super accomodating, kept taking our additional orders and did so happily, so great customer service.
The pub itself looks great and for whisky fans they have quite a few special bottles.
Highly recommend all round.

Love coming in here when I'm in Edinburgh. Small friendly pub. Good food and great atmosphere. It's just down from the castle. Good selection of local gins. Military connection hence the name. Worth a visit.

Having spent around three hours at the castle I needed some liquid refreshment and this place caught me eye.
There is a great selection of whisky behind the bar to meet all budgets and the staff are knowledgable are friendly.
Their scotch egg and salad lunch is great too. If I didn't have other things planned I could have easily spent all day here!

We went for lunch at this cozy and traditional pub. We ordered a soup of the day, garlic bread with cheese and scotch egg sandwich. The staff were very warm and friendly and suggested to us a local blonde beer. Everything was delicious with the soup standing out! Definitely one of the best pubs in Edinburgh!

Best single malt bar… need a new liver

Loved this place. Cozy and atmospheric, it was the ideal spot after almost freezing outside. We went a little bit early and there happened to be a table for us, available for the next 3 hours until live music. We stayed and had a swell time, had mulled wine for 4 euro and decently priced pizzas. Staff were very friendly and attentive, can't fault this place.

What a tremendous place. Acoustic music, well priced drinks and friendly staff with great knowledge of whisky. Very nice indeed. The band are awesome.

Excellent selection of whiskey with knowledgable staff, also even though it is located right in the heart of the touristy area of Old Town it is often fairly quiet in the evening. This place also has very limited food and is really just to have a drinks.

Amazing little pub near the castle! We absolutely loved it. They have some really nice beers on draught, the service is nice and the local is clean. I will be definitely coming back

Really nice, cosy pub with a good selection of beers, wines and most importantly Whisky! Knocked a mark off as there were no allergy warnings on the online menu so we didn't know the "Chilli Rice Crackers" had shrimp in them until they arrived after we'd ordered them

Great music, great service and amazing food and beers!
Totally recommended ✨

A lovely old fashioned pub down the road from the castle. It's dark, dingy, expensive with decent ales and gorgeous scotch eggs. Service was slow (all table service when we were there last week of April 2022, possibly due to Covid).

A great wee find walking up the Royal Mile. Quaint little pub. Great food amazing cocktails. A must to visit. Drink is Hairy Mary, 🌶 🌶 vodka, tomato juice, Worcester sauce and black pepper.

Dog friendly.
Awesome bar at the top of the Royal Mile, small and cozy place with super friendly and attentive staff.
Half price pizzas on Wednesday too make them such good value and well worth a stop to sample.

Best pizza I've had in many a year. Tried both their cask ales as well - delicious. Was at the Waterloo bicentennial in June 2015 so this pub was on my bucket list.. highly recommended.

Good service. Great food. Comfortable pub atmosphere. Server recommended excellent gin & tonic combo. My husband and I split the soup and sandwich lunch because we are not big eaters. Table of 6, and everyone was very happy!

Proper pub with good beer on tap and a nice whisky list.
