Reviews of The Merlin
T. F.
The Merlin exceeded all of our expectations. On the 5th April 2022 we hosted an event in the Merlin’s function room upstairs ‘The Green Room.’ This event was part of our event management module at university so it was very important that it went well.
Without the help of all the staff working that day/night, Thomas, Annalise, Sarah and Jake we could not have achieved such a successful event.
Justin in particular made this event special, from the planning stage to the end result. He allowed us to visit the venue over a month before the event itself, which allowed us to carefully plan our night way ahead of schedule. He helped us with the tech and other jobs, and on the day of the event was always around when we needed an extra hand.
We cannot recommend the Merlin enough, they have amazing staff and their attention to detail and working with others outside their own roles is outstanding. We won’t hesitate to use your space again or even just to come in for some good food and great service!
Thank you so much for everything !
All of us at LMT Events,
Tamsin, Melony, Lucy and Mia.

Annalise was exceptional! She was very friendly and attentive and had great knowledge of the beers when I wasn't sure what to get! Thomas took my food order and he really helped me find stuff that suited my vegan diet! Lovely place 10/10 would recommend
T. E.
Using the app to order was super convenient. Every food item we ordered was cooked well and tasted great. The staff was helpful and kind. The abundant outdoor seating was perfect on a sunny summer day. We are in the area every Friday, and now plan to be regulars.
G. W.
A fairly generic bar - big screen sports, modern building, clean and spacious. It does have a decent selection of whiskies, and some local beers on rotation. Large function room upstairs, and lots of outdoor seating (for Edinburgh!). Beers are cheap too - less than £3 for a pint.
E. H.
Had a great time, the staff really made my day, especially Cameron! He was very chatty and charmed me into getting his favourite - the burger sliders, which were delicious! If I could give 6/5 I would :)
G. R.
The Merlin offers 2 pint cups for your beer. Definitely ideal for the rugby. But then again they could’ve just looked like 2 pinters cause my server Mark was holding it. Great service as always.
F. A.
This place is such a good find! Sooooo much space inside and outside, amazing seating and shelter, and big tables! Drinks were amazing (we highly recommend the bramble gin). Food was 9/10. Brilliant, large menu and very efficient ordering.

What Merlin ya wantin'?
Class food, staff are attentive. Great place and not too far from city centre. Shout out to Mark who was and is an excellent host. Upholds the Merlins standards and the experience he provided makes you want to visit again!
D. B.
Great pub we had a table booked for the Scottish cup final but Jason had not put it in the schedule the manager was so good and managed to accommodate us even though most tables were reserved, that guy deserves a bonus
F. S.
Nice outside area when it's sunny .Good selection of beers wines and spirits . Staff could be a bit more welcoming, a smile costs nothing 😀
M. B.
In our world of Covid, we were greeted and looked after very safely and responsibly, with clear instructions and guidance. Good training and input to staff leads to clear outcomes with customers, well done and thank you.

Popped in for a couple of drinks, on Thursday night. As per previous times we have been in, good service and friendly staff.

Had a lovely afternoon here.
Food was good.
The staff were great, going above and beyond to help regulars with bags and out to taxis etc. It was just uplifting to see.
Definitely going back for another visit.
b.
Fantastic bar and such friendly bar staff. In particular thomas. He had great knowledge of the ales and whiskies and such a welcoming polite young man. Will def be back

I sat next to a man named Gilbert. He was an absolute delight. He was a little down as his wife had just left him. On the upside he had, that very night, found a fiver around the back on the bins outside. We had a rare laugh about it. Earlier that evening on my way to the merlin a light breeze crimsoned my cheeks with its frosty kiss, the gentle laughter of a young couple filled my heart to capacity with a warmth that battled the brisk winter evening with a hell like fury. Upon entering the premises I was greeted with a glow of friendly faces, leaving me tantalisingly close to hugging the man who greeted me at the door. Mark Carvel approached. A handsome chap with a heavenly demeanour. We danced our way to the bar and he poured me a golden pint of nectar. Five minutes later I was speaking to Gilbert and that was that. Wonderfull times. I shall be visiting again, you can take my word for that of a gentleman. Good day to you all.
Sincerely
Ali Gow

A lovely local pub. Had some food here excellent quality. Would recommend if you are pushing.
A. G.
The greatest pub in the lovely Morningside. Annalise is a great server! Drinks come in nice glasses. 5/5 will come again
N. L.
Popped in for some food which was delicious, service was great, we were served by annalise and Jake and they were very friendly and accommodating. Will definitely be back soon!
1. B.
In for some food, and a chat this afternoon. Great place, great team, great manager and a great atmosphere. Will definitely be back
L. G.
We were part of a very large group brilliant service, staff were fantastic, food was piping hot and delicious. We will defo be back. Thank you to everyone that was working on Sat you could not have done anymore for us.
G. R.
Named after his magical namesake this place is magic and that guy mark is the master magician. Pints appear lickity split, none of your faffing about. Shazam, here's a smirnoff. Need some scran? Abracadabra, here's yer tea. The merlin is the place to be
S. B.
Had an amazing time at the merlin would recommend to friends and family will be coming again your bar staff are extremely pleasant and helpful especially Thomas outstanding customer service
E. C.
Extremely welcoming pub, especially the bar staff like Cameron who was so helpful. 10/10 would visit again.
R. T.
Friendly staff, wide space, self order at the till, reasonable prices, not too busy, near city centre
C. W.
Good service good food good prices could do with a good clean in the ladies toilet but other than that it's a good experience
D. W.
Visited yesterday afternoon which was pretty busy but this made no difference to service. Plenty of staff that managed to cope with everyone's needs very capably indeed. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will certainly be back 😀
S. C.
Staff are super as always, Cameron helped deliver drinks to our table, enabling us to behave as idiots 😂 Lovely place 👌
M. J.
Not much to really say its a decent enough pub, the food is mediocre, the drinks are fine if not slightly overpriced and the layout/atmosphere is okay. It's always been busy so I guess they're doing something right!
I personally found the staff (or at least the staff I dealt with) a little rude, but it's not much different from any other cheap-ish pub- you get what you pay for more or less. The worst part was the toilets though so be warned if you are going to give the place a go! It's fine for a drink but don't expect much.
A. S.
Good well run pub with efficient polite staff in a central location. We will certainly be back.
S. F.
A great pub in a great spot with a decent variety of drinks and pub food to suit most anyone. Lots and lots of seating space and the "Secret Garden" area is great for larger groups or if the weather is nice too.
Despite the pandemic I've felt reasonably relaxed and safe enough dining/drinking indoors as well thanks to the efforts of the staff who are really helpful and pleasant as well.
Definitely one of my favourite spots for meeting with friends or a relax on a Sunday!
P.
Good pub food. Their fish and chips are lovely, fresh and crispy. Not frozen. Fresh fish everyday. Cooked to order so the wait is worth it
J. W.
Went for coffee ended up having a bite of lunch. Staff very pleasant .
S. A.
It was lovely good food & good background music will be going back 👍😁
R. L.
Good friendly service. Managed to fit us in on a Friday night despite being fully booked by finding us a table not taken by a no show. Good visibility of sports on screens throughout. Only issue would be my curry was seemed just warm rather than hot when it arrived.
萱.
Cozy atmosphere- a great place to chill out.
S.
Big shout out to the young barman working in the pub last night who ran half way down Morningside Road to give me back my scarf that I had left behind. 5 star customer service. Thanks again.
B. N.
Staff were great especially Thomas. Good food. Will return.
M. M.
Absolutely amazing food and service! Best place I've been to in such a long time! Date night with my boyfriend and we couldn't have asked for a better time. Shout out to our wee server Megan! Very polite and honestly made our experience better with her good attitude!
B. C.
First time visiting, was great! Staff were getting abuse from some party that weren’t following the rules. The member of staff with the ponytail held it together so well, informing us of our table etc whilst this party were yelling at the staff and himself, thought I had it bad working in a supermarket but wow. Also great nachos n super fast service when ordering via the app 👍
A. R.
Great experience, especially with staff member Thomas. Very helpful and chatty. Will be coming back for sure! 😄
S. B.
I visited once for Mark Carvel
At his Tennents pints I'd quite marvel
He charged three fifty
But coz I'm quite shifty
Said "just leave a review, but impartial"
G. R.
As previously when we visited, there were a few items unavailable from an already very limited (Seniors) menu.
To be fair entirely fair though, the fish and chips main course was top quality and excellent value. And a kind word also for the friendly and approachable staff on duty. (16/07/21).
T. P.
Service depends on which member of staff you get, as some are great, others make you feel like you're a nuisance rather than a customer. As far as the food goes, it was ok, a little disappointed with certain aspects (e.g. sliced processed cheese on pizza) but the platters/finger food was what you'd expect. So, good for a snack, not great for a meal. The place it self has a nice atmosphere at least and the garden at the back is great for a warm evening!
S. F.
I really enjoyed my freshly cooked fish and chips washed down with a pint of London Pride yesterday evening. The new beer garden has a great atmosphere. The service was top notch, very friendly and welcoming!
C. M.
Terrific food, nice atmosphere. Had a few complications trying to order drinks (a lot wasn't available) but that may just be an off night. Would still go back if I was in the area though.
J.
Cameron and Thomas did a great job ! Made our stay lovely !
J. H.
Booked a table for food and drink. Good covered seating outside. Ordered food online after 30 minutes still no food asked and apologies came its not been cooked. 60 minutes later food came, 1 hour 15 minutes into our booking time. We just finished and were about to leave when we were asked to vacate our table as our time was up. Food was OK but after the apologies not pleased to be asked to leave 15 minutes after getting our food.
A. P.
I enjoy this place, unpretentious, good selection, good pub quiz on Mondays!
R. S.
Great local pub, and Morningside is lucky to have you. Super friendly staff. Great service in comfortable surroundings. Will return again on our regular visits to Edinburgh.
M.
Love it. Nice, bright, spacious, good bar staff, tvs, big menu (great food!) Beer garden, parking. One of Edinburgh's best!
G. C.
Good pub grub, pleasant staff. Nice interlude!
R. E.
Absolute gem of a pub, passed by accident and how pleased we are. First class staff couldn't do enough to help and make sure we had a Safe covid drink. The best beer garden I have been in for a while, all drinkers having a safe and pleasant time.
Y. P.
Good pints, served promptly. Typical prices for Edinburgh. Nice covered outdoor seating area. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
A. L.
Nice big pub, food really nice & reasonably priced ,, nice cold lager 👍🍺
S. A.
Nice staff. Inexplicably loud music - clearly not what the middle-aged customers wanted. And they left.
d. e.
Went there on spontaneous impulse, looked nice from the outside. Staff were friendly and gave excellent service, we only had drinks but they were tasty and refreshing, we saw people eating and the meals looks quite large and worth the money
M. N.
Big place. Well spaced out tables. Beer is well kept and a good selection. A little too big to have a good atmosphere.
J. T.
Great venue for a PBH Free Fringe
C. W.
Had a great time. Great service from Thomas. Thanks for the great hospitality, will be back!
V.
Big up to Martin who was SO friendly from when we first got there and was so accommodating to any of our needs. This guy was the embodiment of EXCELLENT customer service. Friendly face and memorable. Thanks for making my Birthday a night to remember. :)
H. S.
Nice location, fab the fact they have parking, show matches on the tv, pretty clean and friendly, fab for average price drinks! Aweful food ordered a tuna melt came with cheap bread cold tuna cold cheese ended up taking the tuna out the bread and eating with chips never eat here again
w. B.
Had a meal there last week Great would recommend
L. G.
Was in with the girls from work to celebrate winning an award, the service was pretty slow (it wasn't busy) and none of the signature meals were available because they were short staffed. The food was hot when served but I wouldn't rush back.
A. R.
Had a great afternoon/evening at the merlin! Thanks to Cameron our service x
A. R. (.
Fair selection in the menu, nice environment and good service
M. C.
Delicious curries. They’ve got a nice range of gins at a not bad price, plus student discount, even cheaper ;)
m. m. e.
Great food and service, large range of drinks to pick from, excellent all round
K. D.
A wonderful end to our evening. From start to finish our experience was great. We were met at the door and walked through the contact tracing protocol, and were greeted with such a warm welcome. Martin was brilliant. We enjoyed lovely conversation with him and he made our experience one we will remember. Thanks for everything! We will be back.
S. S.
Great food with an extensive vegan-vegetarian menu. Two Pub Deal meals for 11.99 Sunday thru Thursday and a decent selection of choices in the Pub Deal. The bar had a huge selection of beverage choices. Clean and crisp decor. Big but silent tellies for watching sports. Would definitely eat here again when I'm in the area.
d. b.
Glad to see a menu with gluten free options.
F. P.
Fantastic great value food. And friendly staff.
J. B.
Easy to use app makes ordering a breeze. Extension menu of pub classics and all the usual drinks. Nice outdoor area.
J. M.
Good selection of real ales and other beers. New sports bar upstairs with pool, darts and shuffle board as well as a separate bar. Decent food menu although shortage of staff meant it wasn't available when we visited. Tables outside, just back far enough from the main road. Paid parking round the back. Overall a decent pub which has recently been refurbished so in good condition.
m. f.
Very good place to have a good time
N. D.
I like this place, the fish is good but the last few times I've visited the other food selections have been cooked poorly, or old ingredients used, very worn looking salads for instance or really, over cooked meat. On the last occasion before 5pm I walked into the well kept loos to find a guy washing his hair, the second time, before 6pm there was a guy going a bit crazy and kicking the bin around the room. Don't think I will go back with guests for a while.
R. G.
Nice pub and good reasonably priced food.
C. M. R.
Great atmosphere and nice decor. You need to arrive early if you are looking for a seat or planning on having a meal. There is a private car park around back that charges a small fee, or there is a bus route that stops more or less outside the front door.
S. M.
Good place, we were outside this time for the Scotland England game, good set up with outside screens, just could have done with some patio heaters etc as pretty chilly as the evening went on, though good inside.
S. D.
Had lunch here today. Mixed grill was good with all you'd reasonably expect included. Had a coffee which was nice. Warm and cheerful pub. Not massive fan of having to pay to park round the back though.
M. B.
had an amazing time, great service from Thomas :)
N. V.
Great pub, affordable price
J. G.
Great boozer and added bonus they have the greene room with pool tables and electronic darts
j. S.
Staff were great guy with ponytail red haired girl and young lad very friendly and welcoming dog friendly so was a bonus and offered water for the dog food was decent for the price would definitely go back
A. s.
Enjoyed the food wonderful surroundings
W. L.
I really enjoyed for a chain! Great bartenders. Menu a little confusing and a few items out of stock.
M. B.
Really nice modern bar with so much potential. Staff seem to work really hard but dont see much pressence of management. Toilets had no soap and a lot of tables were left full of dirty glasses and plates for a good while. I was happy to see they had a lot of TVs which meant good sport but strangely the TVs were left repeating adds for Sky TV. But one thing I can say is front of house staff seemed super friendly and tried really hard to keep standards high just a shame no support seemed present for them.
N. D.
Really good variety of drinks, something for everyone, food is exactly what you need, prices are more than reasonable and the staff are very friendly, make you feel at home every time.
R. C.
Friendly staff and atmosphere. There is spacious seating, a nice mixture of booths and tables, several large screen televisions and outdoor seating available too. Prices are reasonable and portion sizes are your typical Wetherspoons size.
J. H.
I think it was mostly because we were there on the 2nd of January and there were only 2 staff on the floor, but our food took forever to arrive as someone had apparently accidently knocked the cooker switch off. There was also no hot chocolate even though it was on the menu. One of our group ordered the Yorkie wrap but could not eat the pastry wrap as it was heavy and very doughy. The chicken burgers were fine, the chilli jacket potato didn't come with any cheese, but was also fine. I reckon on a normal business day, things may be a lot better.
A. F.
Awesome place with good drinks and great meals.
S. M.
Nice food this time (and most other times). Reasonable prices and a deal for two 'Pub Classics' - £11.99. Also, in the morning, they do a HUGE fry up (Full Scottish Breakfast) for under £6.
Spacious & pleasant surroundings with comfy seats and several TVs.
C. F.
A spacious pub suitable for children to enjoy the meals in the afternoon. There's slot machines. The business varies, which goes along with the faster you're served.
I'd advise to check if there's football on before coming here. It shows some football matches and the place is VERY busy and unsuitable for a lot of people wanting a quiet drink or pub lunch.
There's a veranda outside the back, sort of beer garden idea. Few tables and an area to smoke.
e. f.
Lovely friendly pub.
P. P.
Chain brewery food pub with a more community feel in the suburbs. Had a makeover late in 2018 so is modern, clean and comfortable. Plenty of large, good quality televisions for match day sports or alternatively Sky Sports News. Open and roomy, bright with large windows all down the front, which people love to sit by. Some work was done at the front to put a beer garden in, but it’s somewhat short of its potential, as well as an underwhelming outside decked terrace at the back. All in all, a nice pub to visit.
A. M.
Good service. Friendly atmosphere
E. B.
Great service and drinks prices.
Good outside seating area too.
E. D.
Nice place . Staff friendly , ran out of vodka though around 7pm. We were offered grey goose but so expensive . Not good when we had a party of over 20 people and great majority were vodka drinkers . They did get more in later .
M. S.
Friendly staff and grate food good atmosphere
A. L. G.
Not like the Merlin of the past.
In the days of the lounge and a separate bar !
Good times then.
Changes happened and it was a mega trendy place, with the raised bar in the middle.
Lots of good looking people and fashionable trends.
Now, it's just a glorified Wetherspoons ( there's plenty of them about )
Sad really !
Just my opinion, but going out to the Merlin a few years back then a taxi to the Rutland and off to Buster Brown's was "thee " night out !!!
R. M.
Nice pub for either a meal or a drink any time of the day, plenty of televisions to watch your sports good meal deals with a drink
J. C.
The Merlin has lots of space and is a nice bright place for a drink in Morningside. The prices are a bit steep for what you get on both the food and drink but its a comfortable spot and sunny out the back on the seats.
They have the best selection of draught beers in the area that also comes with comfortable seating so on that front it's doing well. Its also nice if you can get a seat out the back on the picnic benches as it's a real sun trap and there is hardly any wind. Unfortunately its also a car park so not the nicest setting for a drink.
If you are in during an evening at the weekend it can be quite busy but they always have lots of staff on so you don't have to wait too long to be served. A good place to meet people who live up this end of town but not the best value place in the area by a long shot.
J. J.
Had a work night out here. Staff very friendly and buffet very nice, but the beer (belhaven) wasn't great and I had to go and ask for toilet paper for the ladies. This was a function that was booked months ago so they could have been better prepared.
L. C.
Went for lunch, very pleasant. Nice surroundings .
M. R.
Good service and decent grub. Also had a great time in the beer garden out back.
t.
One of the best places for a good steak I have been to in Edinburgh. It's incredibly rare in my experience that restaurants cook something simple like calamari rings correctly, but The Merlin nails them spot on, they weren't at all chewy and perfectly seasoned.
S. R.
Nice place let down by gents toilets messy and smelly
J. B.
Food was ok but staff were a bit slow in serving us considering they weren't very busy. I would go back but hope for a but better service next time
R. M.
The Merlin is a decent boozer without being anything particularly special. The staff are friendly enough, the prices aren't too bad by Edinburgh standards and the food is perfectly serviceable. In other words "it gets the job done". It's difficult to pinpoint exactly why I feel it's average, but I'd certainly say it lacks anything that makes it feels unique and it has the feel of a chain pub. The choice of beer/ales on offer are pretty standard and whilst the pub is clean and safe enough it doesn't do anything to stand out. You'll drink in much worse places, but don't expect the Merlin to be particularly memorable.
F. C.
Great Covid secure experience, staff were friendly while maintaining a social distance, ordering app was easy to use and the pints were delicious. Can't wait to book again!
J. S.
Great wee place food and drinks excellent service exactly what you would expect, XXX.J
P. D.
Great place in a lovely part of Edinburgh
J. S.
We had our Wedding reception at the Merlin on 29th April. We had a fantastic time, the buffet was amazing the hot food all piping hot, great DJ and the function room has its own bar and toilets.
Prices are very very reasonable and Chris the manager really bent over backwards to help us get everything organised in time for the big day.
A. J.
Clean with nice open seating area. I had melted camembert that was overcooked and all the cheese had flowed out. It was not good. Such a simple thing to do but messed up.
R. E. S. S.
Airy, wasn't busy which I liked, on a Sunday evening. As a vegetarian, went for the halloumi wraps. Could have better alternative to salsa and the cream salada but I still liked it. Who doesn't like greasy fried halloumi :) definitely recommend for pub food, and I will most likely come back.
I. M.
Longtime pub and restaurant on Morningside that offers a Weatherspoons like environment. On the upside there lots of space a beer garden and the staff are all friendly.
Not my first choice watering hole in the area but definitely not the worst either.
j. a.
Large modern pub restaurant. Sports shown on multiple large tv's. Food typical bar food served quickly and hot , steaks cooked correctly. Fairly disabled friendly , staff could not have been more helpful. Only slight negative a belhaven pub selling Guinness instead of belhaven black
G. T.
We were well looked after. Tables cleaned between customers and table service quick and efficient. Enjoyable evening.
A. R.
Home to the morningside markets which is brilliant and happens one sunday a month. Its a great pub for meeting friends here as it has a car park. The pub serves food and has a good drink selection. Its one of the pubs to go into if you are in Mornigside and on the same level as the waiting room or hermitage bar.
D. S.
Good freindly atmosphere. The place is light and airy with a fast, friendly and efficient service. The food was good and they had a decent selection on beers and wines.
P. M.
Warm and cozy and the food is good and the drinks are wet and cold x
A.
Went here to watch champions league, lots of TVs but most of them were really grainy and not showing it in HD. Bizarrely, on the largest poshest looking TV the colours just seemed all wrong; the grass was too bright and luminescent green- it looked like a game of FIFA. I recommend that the staff have a play around with the settings on the TVs, particularly the largest one because it's being wasted at the moment!
Other than that, lots of drinks and a standard pub grub food menu- but really pricey! Felt like I was in London again and that's not a good thing.
S. B.
Lovely venue lovely atmosphere
B. H.
Food fine, service good, just what we needed.
J. S.
Lasagne was excellent. there is one fast happy server. The second time I went there was more help but the server wasn't a happy camper. she never smiled. It saddened me a bit.
c. m. b. d.
Fine for a beer and watching sport
They serve food but I haven't eaten hear
C. M.
Best greene King pub.
Food was fantastic.
Staff very attentive
G. V.
Place will benefit further from a bit of a good scrub and tidying. Fish comes with a very small portion of cheeps. Hence, remember to ask extra cheeps. Reasonable prices and friendly staff.
R. S.
Food is very nice, staff are polite, price of drinks a bit steep.
H.
A brilliant wee pub.!
D. M.
Great beer garden
I. F.
Good pub/restaurant small on outside large inside ample seating with an array of T.V's. to be viewed from all angles good choice of beers.
A. W.
Nice place. Large. Takes groups. Football matches on. Tables outside for sunny weather. Has pub grub and restaurant food. Reasonably drinks. Wetherspoon decor
A. F.
Is, and has always been, a fabulous place to visit! Great on a Friday after work; a nice meal during the week, or a great place to finish off a memorable Saturday evening!
B. S.
Lovely,, and great food
E. R.
Comfy place for drink and food.

It's OK. Went on a Friday night and it was dead. 18th party upstairs but bar quiet. Distinct lack of females. Bit too many guys. OK bar.
T. R.
Nice pub in Morningside. Friendly staff. Decent prices. Food menu looked reasonable and appealing. Plenty of seating and outside area to front and rear.
G. B.
Friendly staff and nice big seating area. We are here and it's typical pub grub fare, but it's a handy spot to meet for a cinema trip to the Dominion!
D. F. P.
Nice place for a drink in Morningside. Check the new beer garden!
J. M.
My wife and her friends enjoy a drink some food and conversation here, ive also had a few libations there also, very nice
D. K.
Good pint of Punk IPA here, and a great beer garden when the suns out. Loads of space, sports bar style pub, bu its missing a pool table and a quiz machine!
B. V.
Went to see the monthly comedy show in the upstairs. Great acts and had a really good laugh. Would definitely recommend, and will definitely be back!
K. R.
Nice pub, clean and tidy. Food was hit and miss but it was Xmas Day meal so not sure if it was the normal chef.
J. H.
Please try the fish and chips excellent the portion is so filling but if your feeling really hungry try the large portion you certainly wont need any else to eat all day.
M. D.
Friendly staff food was great the only complain was that the beer we ordered tasted weird but they were happy to give us new pints
N. F.
Friendly staff, good atmosphere

J. M.
Good value pub food. Staff very helpful and cheery. Sports on live every day. Highly recommended.

As far as my memory serves me the Merlin has always had a place in Morningside. It has seen quite a few changes over the years but the mainstay is the staff are always friendly and helpful and the food is very good.
R. C.
Ok, one of those pubs that smells a bit inside like the floor is rotting. Not a big fan of the place and I wasn't very impressed with the prices or selection or the decor or anything really about it. It's ok, better than a two star but hardly worth a 4, three from me.
G. W.
Lovely place. Passed many times over the decades but first time in
G.
Always enjoy the Merlin, very relaxing place
C. C.
Very nice and friendly staff. Very spacious with lots of screens to watch sports but also tables to have a quiet chat or to have a quiet meal

G. S.

Another excellent night of ceilidh dancing on Frdiay 3rd October with Canongate Cadjers. This has turned into a real land mark in Edinburgh in the past few years, on the first Friday of the month. Over 400 members on Edinburgh's Ceilidh " Meetup" use the event on a regular basis. Serious ceilidh dancers cannot drink & birl safely , so, not a massive amount of alcohol is taken, this does not detract from the atmosphere of this regular night. It would be a great shame to see it disbanded, for whatever reason.
J. J.
