Reviews of The Standing Order
Z. H.
Pub looks amazing. Very spacious, main problem was that the app was crashing for everyone inside the pub and people kept going to the bar. Later the order on the app goes though.
A. S.
I visited on a very busy Saturday afternoon. We found a table in one of the many areas of the pub. We were sat near the old safe and wondered about it's contents!!! Lol We ordered drinks via the app and they came quickly enough considering how busy it was. We then decided on ordering some food again via the app and it came very quickly. It was hot fresh and very enjoyable. The toilets are a lovely mystery tour in the basement. They were clean and no concerns. As we exited, we saw there was a queue to get in. Overall it was a good place to get a drink and a meal.
M. R.
Amazing place, everybody know what a Wetherspoon is, but this building is stunning! So take a cheap pint and enjoy the place!
I. K.
Great atmosphere in a former bank, many rooms with places, incredibly tasty!
V. S.
Friendly staff and a nice place. It was sort of hidden to be honest.
l. k.
It's always quick friendly service. Good value .easy to access and get served. Been popping over between trains rather that queue at Queen Street for coffee from kiosk I have time to cross road get served and return , can also pop to toilet without it costing me the 50p charged at station
G. T.
I didn't know initially, of The Standing Order in Rose Street, but I was in Edinburgh on a day out and thought I'd try there as somewhere different for a meal. The menu choices and the portion sizes are very generous. The meals give you the option of a soft drink or tea/coffee instead of an alcoholic drink.
The staff are very helpful and the speed of bringing your order is second to none. This was my second visit and I will certainly have meals there again.
A. E.
We went back twice today:breakfast and lunch. Amazing building great architecture, friendly staff. Loved it
J. M.
Great selection of beers and wines as always. Food not the best, chicken burger a bit tough and the chicken plonked on top of the pasta was cold. Both removed after pointing out to staff.
Staff great and very polite 👍
S. L.
Busy pub, nice venue, not to experience, and they serve a good selection on pub food. Love the easy table oder service and bar staff always friendly even been so busy. A lot of things to see with in the building
F. E. A.
We had the traditional breakfast today was it was OK. The bacon was cold and not well cooked as we ordered. The sausage was dry and the baked beans was also OK. I ordered for well cooked eggs, but it was overcooked and rubbery. I guess they were very busy today.
j. s.
Beautiful for a wetherspoons and brilliant price's for drinks compared to other bars in the area. I would definitely recommend a visit 😀
s. c.
Friendly staff , app worked well and what an amazing room to have lunch in, high ceilings and history all around . Food came out quickly and hot and was tasty . Mixed grill for me , steak for the Mrs , 11 inch pizza for oldest and grown up ham,egg n chips for youngest. Only complaint is the Mrs steak wasn't a medium rare more like well done bit on the hole very nice and if back in the area again would make sure to call in. No pictures as we was hungry 😂.
D. S.
Warm and friendly welcoming place. The staff are so friendly and helpful, and best of all - service is quick. Food was warm and tasted good. I even went back here instead of eating at the Christmas Market, so I could eat in warmth and comfort. The refillable coffee cup finished off the food perfectly.
C. A.
Good large central bar area. Good breakfasts. Good cheap coffee (from machine). Good cask beer. Sirloin steak not recommended. Gristly and tough. No mustard (of any type) in place. Narrow stairs to toilets.
M. F.
A very nice Wetherspoon,if you like the well designed ones that have kept the old features . ( there is one about 5 minutes walk away on same road that I avoided to come to this much nicer one).
T. K.
Very nice and clean pub very reasonably priced food served very efficiently 9 out of 10 for our experience
J.
Spoons! Cheap food, cheap beer, nice and open plan, beautiful ceiling in the main bar. Ordered off the website, worked flawlessly, beer was decent, nachos were decent.
T. w. I.
A good wetherspoon cafe which you need definitely to visit. Its on the george street and its really clean. It more looks like a book store from inside. Like every weterhspoon its cheap and you can also order as much coffee as you want. Compared to other restaurants prices are moderate and cheap. It was just a bit crowded but this is OK. Staff was also friendly and the nachos the fries the organge juice and coffee were tasty. Somewhere else we would have paid much more. I also liked the option that we can order via app. I will come back soon
W. T.
Usual Witherspoons no music, relaxed atmosphere. Staff were friendly behind the bar.
B. G.
What a surprise coming here we where really forced into coming here because everywhere else we tried was full was expecting the usual wetherspoons food ok but nothing special but I was wrong me and my wife both got a burger chips and onion rings was the best burger I've had for a long time the onion rings where tasty and crunchy chips where spot on excellent service extremely speedy definitely would recommend a visit here 👍
C. M.
Good food and beverage selection, friendly staff. Reasonable prices and quick service. The usual trek involving stairs to the toilets...
R. M.
Ordered a steak. Just a pity I didn't get a chainsaw to cut it up. Half of it was fat. But that's wetherspoons for you I suppose. Most of the time its fine.
I. T. P.
Located in the city center. My first time having a traditional breakfast, it was tasty. A bit busy in the morning. Refill option for coffee was great.
S. M.
On 13th May, my wife and I visited to this PuB for our lunch. We took a sit in table. There is very infection prevention measures for customers. All staffs are very good and very friendly. And foods are also very good. We are very looking forward to waiting for 17th May!
K. B.
Fast service and good food/drink for a cheap price. Whether, ordering through the app; or ordering at the bar, the staff are lovely and will accommodate your every need.
The building inside is stunningly beautiful. It has this ecclesiastic aura that cannot be matched anywhere else.
You can't go wrong with Wetherspoons, really. It is the same across most stores. Go here if you're looking for a nice night with friends or family, that won't break the bank.
M. F.
The standing order is one of the most beautiful buildings in Edinburgh with massive marble columns and an amazing acid etched glass arched roof. The building having been previously a bank has a massive walk in safe that is a popular snap for visiting tourists. Many people criticise weatherspoon pubs because they believe them to be cheap and not sophisticated enough for Edinburgh which makes me laugh. This building takes you back to a period of time when chic and style meant something and conversation was the norm instead of online socialising. The customer service is good. Alcohol prices are very competitive at a time when household budgets are being squeezed. You get a good mixture of customers from here in the UK and all over the world. The pub has extensive seating areas for families and it is wonderful to see happy children enjoying the scenery. I would implore all visitors to Edinburgh to have at least one drink in the standing order as I have been going there for the last seventeen years on an infrequent basis and how I love the beauty of such an impressive building.
S.
Nice breakfast no problems. Very quite at 8-15am.
M. A.
Really good vibe. Prices good and nice atmosphere. Our table ordered nibbles which got sent to wrong table and by the time we realised it, half the food was gone and rest was cold. Girl dealing with it was almost argumentative about it but we did get our money back. Apart from that was a decent place
L. R.
Beautiful architecture and history. Loved the addition of a vault. Food arrived within 4 minutes. Friendly service
m. p.
Old bank building, beautiful. A nice surprise for our drinks break .
D. S. (. S.
I've been to a fair few Wetherspoons and this is one of my favorites, especially for the atmosphere! It's a relaxing environment and spacious. I found the timing of food being delivered to be slightly slower than other wetherspoons, but this doesn't change much as the products delivered are still high quality and easily enjoyed. I'll be coming here for my future Edinburgh trips!
S. C.
A very great typical place. Low prices and great quantities. We tried the burgers (served with onion rings and fries), the break fast and the vegetarian breakfast. We also tried some good beers. The atmosphere is friendly, just what we needed as tourists. I would recommend it to any of my friends visiting Edinburgh, for sure !
L. S.
Came Saturday 11th had to wait outside a short while due to it being extremely busy, managed to get a table in a quiet part, ordered drinks and food from the table, food came quicker than drinks but like I said it was extremely busy so a bit of patience was needed but that wasn't a problem as we had been walking round the Xmas markets and souvenir shops. Will go again when we go back to Edinburgh as its in a good location
K. H.
Cheap food if after something easy to keep you going for the day. Lots to choose from the menu. Choice on where to sit as it's a large building.
a. g.
5 steps to get up and the lift out of order. Certainly not for the disabled. A very busy Wetherspoons pub boasting friendly staff and good service.
K. T.
A nice place to go to but it seemed a bit under staffed. I wanted a while to be served at the bar and tables took ages to be cleared
F. J. A. C.
Enjoyed the experience. Food is correct but the building is worth a visit. Good beer selection.
Interesting to know that you must sit at the table make you choice and remember your table number, then go to the «desk» to place your order. You will get your drinks and go back to your table; food will be served by a waiter.
I. L.
Nice place, good pub food, drinks for sensible prices, iconic atmosphere.
D. D.
Such a cool spoons based in an old bank, with towering ceilings and the old chubb vault in one of the back rooms. A very long bar with plenty of staff meant I didn't have to wait to be served which was great.
S. T.
This austere building offers the usual fare of the Whetherspoon Brand. I don't know if it should be called Standing Room Only rather than Standing Order.
But we were able to get a table and I ordered using the app.
Prompt service after an acceptable time period. Drinks arrived then food not five minutes later. Only complaint and I noticed this with other orders. None of us were asked if we'd like condiments!
Chips with out Ketchup, Really!
I'll give the place a thumbs up👍
I'd like to visit it when it's a little quieter.
G. M.
Very busy place on rose street but service very slow waited for them to put cider back on as it went off after about ten minutes decided to have something else bar staff need to quicken up as for waiting staff very good always on top tables cleaned as soon as emptied bar staff could take a lesson from them and again poor bar staff
G. A.
Decent pub with good cheap beer. Food is good, nothing special but at a decent price
r. m.
Wonderful place to have beers and a proper delicious steak ! ❤️
J. M.
Excellent service, very busy pub but loads working behind the bar to service everyone.
A.
Food was very good. Drinks were excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful
R. A. W.
Standard wetherspoons experience, fabulous listed building with one of the most decorative ceilings you'll ever see whilst getting soused 🍺🙂. I was particularly disappointed on the 2 occasions I visited they had no brewdog punk ipa on tap nor a Caledonian burger. . Living in England we only get those during burns week so I was a disappointed tourist lol, however, that takes nothing away from this fab location.
R. F.
Easily the most beautiful wetherspoon I've ever been in. You get all the usual great wetherspoon treats in an incredible setting.
S. L.
It's a lovely building but the food is of lower weatherspoons quality and the table delivery really slow. Not the staffs fault. The rugby was on and they were just over run.
A. D.
Good service, good prices and a really nice building. It used to be a bank. Different dietary options (vegan, etc). You also have a decent variety of drinks and cocktails. The Scottisch breakfast is pretty cheap as well. Recommended!
S. O.
Is a Wetherspoons so prices are reasonable and food and beer pretty good. Spectacular old banking hall and other smaller rooms. Staff cheery.
A. J.
I hate Wetherspoon sometimes because of its greedy owner. But they have such a nice places everywhere in the UK.
This pub is huge and glass ceiling was stunning in the main hall.
Staff is young and helpful, really nice people.
Food was good, capuccino was lovely
D. F.
bar staff were friendly, service was quick, tables were clean, not crowded or loud... no complaints!
C. S.
I love this place, it’s by far my favorite restaurant in Edinburgh. It’s an old bank so the interiors are amazing. The staff is super nice and the food is great and not pricey. Every time someone I know is going to Edinburgh I recommend them to come here.
X.
“Biggest Wetherspoons I’ve ever seen”
Great central location, and interior of the old bank building is amazing, with plenty of seating areas. Most of the staff leave a good impression.
Unfortunately, after ordering a variety of food items on the menu, came a great disappointment from all.
Would recommend to visit for drinks and to watch football, not to eat, not at all.
Bathroom is in the basement, kept in decent condition.
M. C.
Same Wetherspoon like all the others in the UK, grand interior.
J. G.
Lovely setting, nice service and amazing building but would be great to see more local beer represented (especially on cask).
m. p.
Well not happy..service to begin was no problem young lady very nice..waited half hour for food looked delicious...untill we tasted it and it was cold..i dont or did not ask for a refund but the nice lady whom we told we could not wait for meal to be re done as we had train to catch said she would ask for a refund for us...another lady came to our table with a right attitude..told us the meal could be replaced immidiately..we mentioned about the train..she said ill get you a refund and stormed off...ive recieved a refund..ok..but this young lady should not hold the position she has as her customer relations was abominable...sorry for the bad review..the money really did not matter..☹☹☹
S. P.
Great place to meet up. Reasonable food at an excellent price. Rooms at front family / baby friendly.
I. H.
Had a pint of worthingtons (as a business meeting 😉 whilst doing orders for my work. Crisp, cold and refreshing. Pleasant members of staff who were knowledgeable about products. 5*
D. B.
Its a 'Spoons. What more can you say? If you want a cheap pint/meal in a nice old building its great. If you want a refined experience go elsewhere.
G. M.
A bit busy so hard to find a seat. Kitchen was closed too but, good service with drinks ordered by using the app. Thumbs 👍
K. P.
Always busy but cheap and cheerful. Good location also. Food is decent enough pub grub.
Ó. P. T.
I am Spanish and I thought it was a great place, both for the place that was a bank and those of the movies made bar, pub, restaurant It was an all in one. Also good value for money. En definitiva un lugar genial para tomarse unas pintas y tomar y comer algo
G. B.
As a traveler, I generally like all the Wetherspoons, this one is not different either.
Great pub atmosphere, good selection of beer and other drinks, tasty pub foods, fast and nice service.
I specially like the order and payment method provided by the company's mobile application.
A. B.
Compared to the last Wetherspoons we visited, this was completely different class. Ordered via the app and within minutes had our breakfasts.
E. P.
Great service, food was out very quickly and delicious. Given the price is so reasonable you don't expect much but it was great!
A. W.
The Standing Order is a Wotherspoons pub with access from either George Street or Rose Street in Edinburgh. I believe there are other bars called The Standing Order in Wotherspoons chain not sure why? This one has an excellent ceiling , which is synonymous with many pubs in the Weatherspoons chain. The upside of this chain is their decent prices, their excellent wide variety of drinks and the lateness they are willing to serve food. The downside is their eponymous menus and their very poor service, which I have to say has only creeped in recently.
S. M.
Stopped of for a couple pints while the wives went shopping, not to buzzy for city centre. lovely interior of this former bank, people where still having breakfast's which looked good. The beers where great and the prices too 👍
J.
Nice place descent selection of real ales larger, wine and shorts.
Nice food reasonable prices.
P. D.
Massive Wetherspoons pub in central Edinburgh, it's always busy, and crowded. Good value for city centre. It's an impressive historical building but now tired inside and desperately in need of refurbishment. There's so much space inside to be used, I would add a mezzanine level in the main hall. Worth visiting for standard JD Wetherspoon experience and so forth.
G. W.
Staff friendly and polite one of the best weatherspoons I have been too
S. J. (.
Nice building and the food is as good as any other Wetherspoon's
m. h.
Food OK but where we sat very dim..lots of bulbs not working in overhead light..maybe saving energy!!
Typical Weatherspoons average food at a below average price. Recommend that you pay a bit more and have better food.
D. M.
Typical Weatherspoons fare. Toilets are in narnia, lots of drink options, microwave food. Ultimately, you know what you're getting and it won't break the bank.
Beware though, it's not very disabled friendly. Lots of stairs to get in the rear (there's a lift but cobbles and terrible street, to get to the door of the lift). Front is stair access only.
Inside its crowded and can be difficult to navigate even on a weekday, tends to be very busy and as such accessible tables are in short supply (some are accessible by stairs only).
D.
For a wethers this is a great choice.
Sure it's a little scruffy inside ( dirty tables etc ) but the building is fantastic.
Definitely go if in Edinburgh...
P. H.
A pub that's made a classic 19th century former Bank relavant today. Great selection of beers and food as presented by Wetherspoons.
L. S.
Cheap prices. Fast service despite being busy. Found a table in an area just off the main bar. Returned again October 2019, can't review again, but still cheap pub and quick service.
M. J.
A large Wetherspoons, plenty of choice, good selection of beers and foods. You always know where you stand with Wetherspoons!
G.
Spoons breakfast, not bad but not the best we have had. Need to work on frying eggs and benighted to keep them soft
P. R.
Pub for undergrads. Come here if you are looking for cheap food and drinks. Of course they have a good ambience and everyone is very friendly. Cleanness and display of the tables could be better, but as I say this is more like a place to grab your pre-drinks or your after party meal among younglings.
T. V.
Wasn't so busy today. Had a great lunch. Haddock and chips. Was lovely. Plate nice and hot too. Had 2 bottles of prosecco. Needless to say, left there a little merry, but thoroughly enjoyed our lunch
S. B.
Exactly what you expect from a wetherspoons. Cheap drinks and food which is just on par with what you could potentially make at home. Like all wetherspoons the lack of music really takes away from the atmosphere and all you hear is the blended conversations of the other 20+ people in the room. Cheapest drinks in town though...
G.
Its been very busy recently, most likely down to the time of year. Orders times can be a bit hit or miss. Tables not really being cleared until anything is brought to the table.
k.
The most favourable chain of pubs. Great choice of food (fish and chips wow) plus drinks, new cider great, nice staff, pub busy with great atmosphere and additionally the old books on shelves - FANTASTIC.
C. R.
Good food, good service, really busy, not easy to find a table, pure luck to get one as someone is leaving before someone else snaps it up
G. G.
Great beer and food. I ate fish&chips and it was delicious. Good prices. I will come back for sure :)
K. B.
Nice spoons - toilets are down a lot of stairs so maybe not wheel accessible. Beautiful venue however.
M. N.
Always busy on a weekend, but bar service is probably quicker than table service. Usually wetherspoons fodder. Pre covid was great for the rugby.
M. R.
Very nice atmosphere, reasonable prices and huge beer and Gin selection.
e. b.
Typical weatherspoon pub not brilliant food. The building is an old bank and so is listed and beautiful.
P. W.
Busy place but managed to get table for four. Staff friendly and helpful
G. W.
Exactly what you would expect, good food and drink at great prices, heart of Edinburgh just off Rose street. We had breakfast with a great pint of ale.
L. T.
Big venue but feels super cramped. Crazy short staffed, was in twice and didn't see one table cleared, order took 40minutes to come both times and the que for the bar was massive. Not sure I would return after this experience
A. W.
Went there with some friends to watch the nationals with Liverpool. We walked in and the place was packed, ther crowd was roaring... such an amazing vibe. Self seating, at least for that event as we were watching the game. Good food, all around good experience.
P. J.
Beautiful build and interior. Busy so app usage was slower than going to bar.
J. B.
A busy place but spoons always is, food came fast beer was cheap for Edinburgh. Came back for breakfast had to wait nearly 30 min then it came out cold . They did reheat it but eggs were rockk hard.
M. M.
Really lovely pub, pleasant staff, clean tables and seating area's would definitely go back, but was only on a week's holiday from Kent.
J. H.
Lovely place and the bar tenter Courtney was lovely helpfully friendly and a credit to the pub .
L. C.
This is the usual 'you know what you're going to get' wetherspoons except that the staff are exceptional. We went at around 6.30pm on a Saturday with older children/young teens to get something to eat whilst we were visiting Edinburgh. The door staff asked us to wait whilst they checked there was a table in the family area. They went inside, came back after a couple of minutes and walked us to the table they had checked for us. They could easily have told us where the family area was at the door and left us to wander down corridors to try and find it and hope there was a table. Really appreciate them going to the effort to check and take us to the table.
D. B.
The usual Weatherspoons but amazing building. Very good select of drinks at good prices.
K. B.
On a crowded Saturday night we still managed to get decent app service and a table, door staff were excellent too!
J. M.
Great place, Always visit here whenever I am in Edinburgh.food is good atmosphere is always brilliant would reccomend going..
T. a. l. i. F.
Very quiet today (May bank holiday) but the service was good and the hygiene excellent. Be good to see the sun come out and the restrictions lifted.
J. Y.
The food and service was good but it was very crowded and the tables were far too close together.
E. P.
Lovely building that's been converted . As with all these pubs it was very busy
D. R.
Cheap drinks good service very busy but the tables could have been a bit more cleaner
U.
Great Spoons, love the figure that looms over the pub, wish it were a bit bigger since it gets quite packed on a night out.
M. M.
Enjoyed the pub was busy but that's to be expected. Food was decent good Guinness.
l. a. s.
Usual great value food/ drink, just off the " beaten track" so less busy than others,
J.
I would of give it a 5,but needs to get tenants lager glasses back ,other wetherspoons have them in Scotland
J. Y. (. Y.
Great prices for a drink , gets noisy when busy but we'll worth a visit
C. M.
Very busy but managed to get a seat and
Service was fine 👍
F. G.
Nice environment with fair prices
N. L.
Great place! A former bank transferred into an easy but classy beer place. You can just between a bunch of beers!
S. J.
Nice big place with the usual underground mystery tour that is a spoons pub. For a Scottish pub the beer selection was limited and there must have been a staff shortage as not only was the table service lengthy there was a million dirty glasses on the counter. Really felt for the staff who were clearly run off their feet. Would defo go back when restrictions are lifted, as I'm sure it will be a lot more enjoyable.
C.
Good pub with lots of drinks to choose from at reasonable prices
T. C.
Good size pub staff very efficient and fast great location
S. M.
Quality witherspoon chain pub. Big fancy old building decent beer, cheap food, good service, no silly loud music and toilets a few staircases away. Quintessential British pub!
J. M.
Surrounds comfortable for me. As I'm slightly older
Affordable drink
J. W.
Great selection of drinks including Leffe blonde on tap!
j. a.
we share a real good time there ... good fish'n chips, cider and six nations
B. C.
Live sport on a big screen food was very good and well priced very busy place perfect for someone on a budget or who likes a bargain
R. C.
The original Wetherspoons to open in Edinburgh. Still popular with decent real ales.
S. W.
Huge place. Very large menu plenty to choose from. Food was ok great value. It was just such a large space it was not very warm I had to keep my coat on.
A. D.
Great pub with very friendly staff. Couldn't to help us during a very busy festive weekend
A. L.
Macaroni bite arrived burnt and no glasses for the cocktail jug until I queued up and requested them
A. L.
Meal reasonable. Service not too bad. No cleaning of tables after use
D.
Overall: If you are in Edinburgh visiting you must go to stading order. The pub is beautifull and has a really nice environment.
Food: Nice quality and presentation. They have vegan options (not many, 1 or 2 options I think).
Other: Go early if you want to sit in, because it gets croweded very fast, specially at weekends.
M.
A very beautiful place with great food and drinks
D. S. S. J.
Ordered for pickup, quick service, cool staff, amazing food!
W. f.
Had the eggs bennedict and the eggs were like hard boiled eggs, told and showed one of the servers and was told I quote ' I can tell someone if you like?' The traditional English breakfast was much better. Free refills on the coffee and all reasonably priced...just a typical weatherspoons, great prices, average or sometimes below average food depending on your luck....
V. R.
Great building with lots of character and history with the usual Wetherspoons value for money Friendly staff.
J. L.
Love this place and have to go whenever I visit Edinburgh. A wetherspoons in an old bank, with bags of character, very popular and busy on a weekend. Would definitely recommend 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
B. B.
Needed somewhere to eat on the first night of a three day stay in Edinburgh.
Very nice place, food served in less than 10 mins, friendly & helpful staff who even recommended a good Indian restaurant to book whilst on our stay.
Well done
T. G.
You have to give Wetherspoons their due they do take on some beautiful buildings
B. S.
Door staff were very helpful and courteous particularly with one of our party who was in a wheelchair. Social distancing and track and trace strictly adhered to. Drinks good value, food was ok, steaks were a bit tough and one in particular was inedible but was replaced without fuss by a member of staff. Could do with more staff I think as they all seemed to be rushed off their feet but were still friendly and professional.
d. “.
Stunning exterior and interior, great service good prices. Food always arrived hot (except the breakfast tomatoes...it's a wetherspoon thing!?) Well worth a visit
G.
Always clean, good beer and great value. Some really cosy rooms...
D. F.
A great place to meet pre rugby lots of tables and chairs and a good selection of drinks
K. H.
Quick service, lovely food and very well priced.
F. B. (.
Well...just a great place! You just need to go to the counter and order! Then, is a few minutes you eat wonderful food, also very convenient prices and good value. There are lots of drinks, Scottish specialities, ect...
So, let's go guys!!!
A. B.
A huge pub with multiple rooms. The first Wetherspoons in Edinburgh. Very much a student haunt these days, so you might feel old, but no real harm in that. Proves it's good value! A limited selection with a few beers missing. Maybe the Chairman was wrong about brexit?!
M. L.
Nice wetherspoons pub. Polite staff... Toilets, as always with this company are a bit of a trek. Cheap real ale.. Highly recommended.
J. S.
Wetherspoons. They're the same country-wide. This one is no different. The pizza I had was edible without being memorable. But you get what you pay for and the prices are cheap. Could be lots better, but could be lots worse.
R. M.
Great place for drinks and in my case a lovely breakfast
P. S.
I love this place, it very big inside and the staff are always great.
You can walk in for a table here and there usually is one available.
The toilets are located down a very long and narrow (tow people can squeeze past at a push) staircase.
Parking near this place is expensive, if you want to you can park at the train station car park and take the 15 min walk.
S. T.
Very good food, friendly staff, would be a 5 star but let down by speed of orders and cleanliness.
S. L.
Guinness good long ques for service but 3.75 for a pint very good
P. S.
Standing you will be. But nice beer good selection and architecture.
p. a.
Always come here for lunch on our days out in Edinburgh. Roomy & well laid out with good food & good selection of ales & very at Weatherspoon's great prices.
C. W.
Good Weatherspoons pub, fantastic history of the building within.
n. S.
Not a lot of seating available staff were really nice though
C. S. B.
Interesting place. It is an old bank which was converted into a restaurant. You can order directly from your table using a mobile app. Affordable prices
T. M.
It is a wetherspoon so chain food and some local beer but that means you know what you're getting and it isn't half bad. I haven't been in a wetherspoon yet that wasn't located in a very interesting building and last order is no exception. Very beautiful building with amazingly high ceilings. Looks like some place from another century and probably is. Don't come here looking for a typical sports bar but definitely come if you want a meal and a drink in a very exciting place.
A. G.
I got the Scottish breakfast for less than £4. That’s a really good price. The decor and feel of this place is excellent.
G. B.
Eat there once food ok. Table could of been cleaner
J. C.
Another superb Wetherspoon. Tim, Mr Wetherspoon, has again knocked it out of the park with the fabulous and sympathetic conversion of a traditional bank building. There is a tranquil atmosphere if you're looking for that in the adjacent roomed seating areas or there is the buzz and atmosphere of the main area with a large vaulted glass domed roof and trendy mezzanine. I love this pub! Oh, and the food is really good too.
C. M.
Food was good, but the service was not the best. It took 20 minutes to get 2 glasses of coke and when the food came, the waiter pretty much ran off and never asked if we wanted any condiments, etc. No one came to check up on us either. Not the best service this time.
B. S.
Not your standard wetherspoons powdery chips. They were actually amazing chips.
M. S.
Great bar friendly staff very comfortable space
P. P.
This place is a beer drinkers paradise!!!! They had a massive collection of beers from all over the world. Their prices are extremely reasonable. The building and decorations inside are stunning. This is a place you must stop by when in Edinburgh.
M. C.
This is a Weatherspoon eaterie very busy good menu I can recommend the Mediteranean Lasagne . The Caledonian Burger I was told is very tasty.
We were served very quickly and the food was hot and freshly made.
It is not wheelchair friendly many stairs at the entrance
If you have not been before.....you go to a table you will see a number on the corner of the table . Go to the bar area give your table number when you order and the meal is brought to your table. You will get empty coffee mugs ....get your own coffee and if required you can go back and get a refill
C. H.
Very busy but central wetherspoons in Edinburgh. Great choice of drinks & the building is interesting
d. d.
Food came out quickly, short queue at the bat, textbook wetherspoons
D. G. P.
Table orders only by Q CODE scanning.
A beautiful Italian waitress delivered our order with a wonderful smile.
The old bank building has been converted into this pub without losing the inate inheritance of its archetecture.
A very beautiful place to enjoy your meal.
P. S.
Awesome 3 scrambled eggs on Toast £3.25...*. Awesome Menu Well worth trying Good polite staff Good food ,clean & tidy & quick service 🏴
W. B.
Typical wetherspoons pub. Great choice of ales. Cheap and quite busy. Worth a visit
A. B.
Typical wetherspoons. Just good food and drink ... especially the white Villa Maria wine .... at very good prices.
M. G.
Looks tired, but it's a Spoons. You go there for the drink, not the manky carpet
N. M.
Nice place, but extremely busy by day.
N. D.
Top food and drink keep up the good work guys and gals
S. B.
Lovely pub standard wetherspoons affair. Ordered on the apps and waited 25 mins.
A. H.
Great location in George Street.Fantastic prices for food and drink in Central Edinburgh.Breakfast superb value
J. W.
Great as usual, quiet but good for a drink before shopping 🛍
A. E.
An excellent breakfast, served by friendly, helpful staff.
J. S.
Cheap and cheerful pub. Lovely building with some great features.
W. W.
Beautiful old building. Usual weatherspoons food and drink.
J. C.
Went for breakfast, not very busy beans were cold.In the current situation we understand that it's only table service which is fine but you're giving a card, red on one side saying you don't need service, green on other side saying please serve us. It was on green for 10 minutes, 4 members of staff walked by and ignored the card, I had to stand up to attract attention, obviously they came straight over as you not allowed to wander around. It's the first time we have had bad service though as we always go here. We will go back thoug
J. M.
Beautiful place, great location
B. F.
Better service than our last visit but in all fairness was a lot quiter
D. W.
Very busy but the service was good.food very good also door staff very helpful.when in Edinburgh always like to use this venue.
T. H.
Weatherspoons pub, probably the largest I've ever seen..
Bouncers on the door..never seen that in a spoons 😮..toilets the usual 3 miles away..food is always cheap and cheerful 😊
Staff very friendly although at one point the young lady bringing drinks around got lost herself..so did worry if I would find my way back from loo...but went in pairs with sat nav...all good 👍
J. B.
Always busy, quickly served typical Witherspoon
a. r.
Was very busy, staff looked stressed, my partner ordered mixed grill which was lovely, i ordered steak and chips which consisted of chips and a piece of inedible gristle that looked like it had only been in the pan for 10 seconds each side. Very disappointed as i was starving
I. A. G.
Delicious burgers at good price. The place is big and really nice. We have been many times and always love it.
M. (.
As any other wetherspoons, great beers, prices and pub food
R. S.
As usual pretty busy today, food excellent, drinks too. Waiting 35 mins for a drink though on one occasion.
L. D.
Food was cold but was a chilled atmosphere and staff were lovely
I. B.
This a great 'spoons, great range of brilliantly priced beer. Ceiling in the main bar is impressive.
j. M.
Decent pint of 80 bob decent food friendly staff what more could you ask for.
P. W.
Thoroughly enjoyed visiting The Standing Order, it was full but very orderly without any issues.
I. M.
i used to like this place food is good and good service but its needing a sproused up back bit and were you can sit with children is very bleak
陳.
Great food with nice staff. The place is located in an interesting building with high ceiling, which creates great atmosphere.
K. M.
Lovely decor, no gluten free options.
a. o.
Nice food and cheap price. Fab as usual in a Witherspoon pub
C. B.
It was very busy but was still be able to go to the bar and get a drink great atmosphere
L. H.
Standard wetherspoons cheap food, really busy but slow service, seems really understaffed
G. N.
Beautiful building inside out, good food reasonably priced
A. H.
Quite unusual for a whetherspoons. The building is interesting. Nice spot.
C. O.
Safe. Easy. And highly recommend. This beautiful westherspoons with cheap, refreshing, drinks and delicious meals. Staff don't talk much bur they're all very polite and friendly.
R.
Typical weatherspoons in the heart of Edinburgh. We went for breakfast and it was top notch. Went up to the bar to query my order and the barman was looking at me if I was alien I understand covid rules but I had a mask and only wanted to check my order. Only downside.
R. O.
Both the drinks and the food that were ordered via the app came very quickly. A very busy pub with a good atmosphere. 👍
J. D.
As all wetherspoons very reliable and plenty of seating.
S. M.
One of the best Wetherspoons I have been into in a long time loads of space and very clean and tidy. Food was excellent. Need a Sat Nav to find the loo's.
L. L.
Drinks are in very good price. Nice place to drink tho
O. H.
Our local place when feeling naughty! The staff are amazing and the booze is cheap!
R. K. M.
Staff excellent, food was warm and inviting, small pizzas worth a try. Keir
A. 1.
Place situated in central of city
Many people there but you can also find space for you and spend good time for eating and drinking .
High recommend.
P. P.
Cheap booze and food. A little bit soulless but interesting.
Z. V.
Good prices, friendly staff, fast service, great food! And the whole place looks stunning!
J. M.
Lovely little bar. Tables sanitised between customers.
M. G.
Interesting building. An old bank with many original features
P. o. t. r.
Great, busy place with food and beer! It is definitely an experience not to be missed while in Edinburgh.
T. W.
A typical Wetherspoons pub. Plenty staff on duty providing good service. The place itself is quite vast spread over several areas. Toilets are down stairs which may not suite some people. Same type of menus as is the norm with Wetherspoons. More expensive than some of the other " spoons " probably due to its location. Well run as far as track and trace is concerned. Appeared busy serving a variety of food. Wetherspoon app I think is a bonus. A bit on the drab side.
P. H.
I just find it under staffed. The staff that were there were friendly and helpful
C. N.
Been in some weatherspoons pubs but never seen one with a great big safe in it
J. G.
Very busy but good value for money.
A. T.
Good service but can't get a table half the time
A. S.
It's a Wetherspoons. Close to a station. what more do you need to know :-)
M. N.
Weather spoons in grand building, curry was nice.
L. B.
Weatherspoons, it was heaving the rugby was on food and drink cheap good service
Z.
Food and drink are more than decent prices are OK considering its city centre location just watch when you go coz it fills up fast and stupidity noisy and as bog as it is it can feel real real fast and seating becomes a premium
R. C. R.
Beautiful place and atmosphere. Food is correct. Nice staff.
L. J.
Highly recommend the pimm’s there!Reasonable price, good service, wonderful atmosphere, wide range of food and drinks
M. D.
Another fantastic old building that Spoons' have managed to convert into a bar and keep the flavour of the old building. Always call in here for breakfast when we are in Edinburgh.
N. P.
Great big pub, decent prices as always.
E. G.
Lovely building food was very good. I recommend the pizzas such a reasonable cost with a drink included.
M. S.
Good food, good choice of ales. Cozy, always crowded, daily deals, great prices. A great place.
K. T.
Ok cheap drinks very bisy
M. H.
Nice calm atmosphere with mainly couples and usual value for money
D. M.
Busy bar quick service desent food....
M. W.
Historical pub..nice atmosphere
M. R.
Great prices!!! Easy ordering with the Wetherspoon app and table selection. Not all dishes were available during our visit, but we ended up paying £11 for a burger and a pint per person. Fair pricing, fast service, nice atmosphere. Tables weren't that clean though and the availability of dishes are improvement areas. Staff is friendly as well.
C. L.
Great place to enjoy local food and beer. Overall very noisy, but also very entertaining. The food is fast and good and the beer selection is outstanding.
The value for money is great and the ambience is also fun.
You can have a good time here.
D. W.
Typical weatherspoons pub but with some great features. The bank vault is still in there . Good prices and decent food
S. L.
Beautiful building and very cheap drinks
s. c.
It's an OK place to get a quick drink
K. T.
The building is nice inside. It has a great range of drinks and food at a very reasonable price.
R. G.
Good food and service in nice surroundings
M. N.
Strict rules adhered to re virus. No difficulty at all re ordering on app. Service and food first class as usual. Never had a bad Wetherspoon meal yet. Consistently good and prices very reasonable.
D. 0.
Even the local people think well of this 'pub'. Large traditional interior and plenty of tables, but still gets very busy. Extra staff appear to be drafted in on expected busy times which definitely helps to keep what looks like endless queues at the bar to move quite swiftly.
Good food. Great location. Great value for money
P. R.
It's a bloody wetherspoons, you get what you pay for! Cheap beer and zero class 😂
A. A.
Cheap and cheerful for drinks and food. Was stifling hot that day, shame our food wasn't so hot when it arrived though. Love the old building and staff are great.
A. K.
What a lovely day nice meal with an excellent guy makes all the food was amazing thanks weatherspoons
N. R.
Good pub at a happening place in the city !
G. W. (.
It's a Wetherspoons so you know exactly what's on the menu. Decent venue which was absolutely packed when we arrived. Still, found a table which was promptly cleared by the staff. Ordered using the app and food arrived very quickly considering how busy the place was. Filling meal, friendly staff despite how busy they were and for a decent price. Can't complain about a thing
M. H.
Big pub in an old bank building, lots of different beers, whiskey etc. Great for watching sport on the big screen or just to admire the details of the ceiling.
b. q.
Good service lovely place to eat
A. A.
Very busy but still good service. Food lovely and very reasonable.
J. A.
Nice place for family good food and good service
E. M.
Great bar, Claire our bar person was very helpful , Great range of drinks and food available, good value for money had a lovely time...
D. H.
Great spoons, nice interior and friendly staff
S. R.
Fantastic big wetherspoons pub,so many interesting rooms to enjoy, make sure you find the big safe.Service the same as most wetherspoons, easy to order on the app, good food and drink.Nice central location as well.
T. L.
Busy Saturday afternoon, but app purchases for drinks and snacks came quickly... Decent pints of punk ipa at spoons prices!!
D. W.
I still remember my first time here, and the noise from the ceiling from the echoes of all the conversations. Great long bar plenty staff to get served if you don't get stuck behind someone after a huge round. Bathrooms a maze to get to down lots of stairs. The safe door still there is a fun feature. Quieter side rooms great for family meals.
G. K.
Very busy establishment in the heart of George Street in a grand old building.
Not the sort of place you want to frequent if you are looking for a quiet pint... we were fortunate enough to find a table for 4 at 5pm on a Saturday night. We downloaded and used the App to order and pay for our meals and drinks which worked a treat. We only waited 15 minutes for our meals, which we thought was pretty good considering how busy it was.. No-one complained about their meal and all the playes were empty.. would go back
I. B.
Food was good, nevertheless getting a place to sit is hard. Theres no order or any hostest helping to the sitting
T. L.
Edinburgh's finest. Haggis pizza wins every time
b. t. k.
Lovely environment and delicious food. Don't miss the cider fest. 🍷🍺🍸
S. 7.
A very busy Wetherspoons pub with a great atmosphere and decor. The staff do a brilliant job of keeping up with all the orders
a. J.
So busy... I don't know how the staff cope! Enjoyed.
j. b.
Very nice place, different, original and cheaper than other places. The food was very tasty. I really recommend it.
t. w. j. f.
Brilliant food great place love the decor
N. B.
Large wetherspoons pub in Central Edinburgh, friendly enough staff but its a pretty standard spoons. Architecture is lovely!
A. S.
What more can you say. Great food cheap drinks weatherspoons rule !
M. O.
Beautiful place but food not warm
G. S.
Great pub fantastic decor reasonable prices. I love Edinburgh I visit as many times as I can and with pubs like that I'll be back time and again.
A. S.
Excellent panini eaten in a historic building and free coffee refills at a great price.
I. W.
It's a city centre spoons. Does what it says on the tin. Quick service tho 👍
S. L.
Nice mac'n'cheese with crunchy garlic bread. Delicious!
D. A.
Very fast and friendly service. Food was usual good standard expected from a Wetherspoon's. Sat outside in the sun away from the crowded bars on the main streets.
c. w.
good location. stunning surroundings. cheap as chips
J. A.
Gorgeous building, very busy but well organised and enjoyable food.
H. P. N.
Beautiful building with plenty of seats inside! Staff could've been a lot friendlier, but the affordability of Wetherspoons' menu makes up for it
A. S.
Even in lock-down enjoyed my visit, a basic menu but nice to be out in a safe environment . The Manager of the day was so very helpful with my order !
Look forward to getting back when Virus free !
D. H.
Too less seats, we were a group of 10 people, it took us about an hour to get an seat for all of us. The prices are very fair, the beer is (mostly) very good. Over all, i recommend going there. Only a little bit of music in the background would be great.
j. r.
Such grand surroundings, being the old bank headquarters, to have a few beers! Big pillars, ornate floor & ceiling designs, gilt- edged. It was extremely busy when we arrived at 5p.m. & remained so throughout the night. The relatively cheap prices for food & drinks will always draw a crowd... Mixed crowd - locals, tourists, young & old. Upbeat, relaxed atmosphere. Child-friendly too.
S.
Fabulous building, very busy... alittle slow clearing tables. Good drink choice, basic food, but served hot and is presented well. The interior is stunning, the ceiling is amazing. Ladies loos clean and no nasty smells.
d. R.
Lovely staff. Lovely building. Meal took a bit longer than expected. But very nice when we got it.
J. C.
This is always busy, it is a big place with a few rooms. The bar area is a good size with lots of tables and a raised area with booths. It is a place for people in transit I would say. Its handy when coming from or going to the train station. The back entrance is just behind primark front on George street. There can be a bit of a wait at the bar at times but it is worth the wait. The toilets are downstairs so plan ahead.
S. p.
Lovely food, cheapish beers and great surroundings!
C. C.
One of my favourite pub that I feel different than others due to the unique atmosphere...
R. R.
Open very late, nice, comfort food
D. R.
Visited this pub very close to Christmas on a day of a football match and it was very busy. The staff were very accommodating and found us a table.
We each had a burger which we really enjoyed. The food was well made and tasted lovely.
The toilets are down the stairs, it is quite a walk. However there is a disabled toilet on the main floor.
Very clean and very warm.
D. D.
Just had drinks so can't comment on the food, but didn't see anyone complaining. Well laid out with plenty of small dining rooms. They have used the space available very wisely, as it was once an old Bank. Ordered drinks via the app, arrived very quickly.
F. S.
Brilliant place, you can order from your phone at the table! Nice and cheap 😁
G. P.
Wetherspoons are always good value and this was no exception but we were concerned about social distancing. We were put in a side room which we found quite cramped. Although we were sitting with dividers between us and the next tables, there were two tables placed in the middle of the room which the waiters were finding difficult to manoeuvre past, as did people wanting to go to the toilets. At one stage I counted 28 people in this room and it was quite hot. We felt a little vulnerable as we are both over seventy and the majority of the customers were youngsters. We keep our fingers crossed that we remain safe from the Coronavirus!
A. G.
Decent spoons. Cheap drink and the food smelled great, however we never ate.
c. h.
Sorry to say food was cold when it arrived . Spoke to assistant got a replacement
T. J.
Fabulous make over Ceiling is stunning
R. S.
Bloody awesome pub.Like going to the bank but getting beer instead of money.Yeah bro
D. F.
Service was good meal not so bad n the prices were really good. Definitely worth a visit.....
P. Ł.
Nice place!! Stuff little bit dizzy. Funny situations with order:)
F. M.
One of the best Wetherspoons I have been in. Plenty of seating areas, usual good value food and drink
R. H.
Good beer and quick service
D. D.
This pub is part of the Wetherspoon group so serves cheap alcohol in a relaxed environment. The food isn't great but is cheap and edible for a quick bite. It does get quite crowded on the weekends and so table aren't always available. Lovely place to have a few drinks before a night out and keep it pocket friendly. The variety of beers spirits and wines on offer is excellent. They serve breakfast lunch and dinner. They also have different events running through the year. Service is pleasant and courteous.
a. r.
Nice clean place, very busy but friendly service.
J. P.
A lovely place to just relax and enjoy.
P. E.
Really nice place to visit. The interior is one of the most beautiful in Edinburgh. It used to be an old bank, that was magically turned into a pub, but retaining most of the original features. Staff is nice and helpful, great selection of beers, and food at amazing prices. Great place both for locals and tourists.
A. C.
Crowded, but good Covid precautions. Food mediocre but fast. They will not make note whether you want ice or not if you order through app (asked for ice for whiskey didn't get it). For some reason you can't choose tap water as a mixer for your spirit (which is free) and the app does not have option for no mixer.
S. B.
What the tin says good prices and food nice
M. K.
You'll find a great atmosphere, delicious burgers or haggis too. A drink is including a main course. There are a lot of people you can talk to or get in touch with. The prices are really moderate, as well I definitly have come back. Highly recommended!
A. R.
Lovely place, good food.
A. R.
Very busy .waited a bit at the bar food was ok
C. N.
Too many tables crammed in close together, not a comfortable experience with Covid cases going up.
D. J.
No food, no information on entrance. Drinks only. Friendly staff anyway.
C. m. Z.
Nice busy pub with friendly atmosphere
D. M.
Popped into the Standing Order for lunch. Managed to get a nice booth seat opposite the bar. Ordered our food and drinks at the bar. Waitress was very friendly and helpful. Food came very quickly, it was hot and very tasty. Very nice atmosphere. Highly recommend a visit. Deekster
L. W.
Super busy place but quick service
h. h.
Decent food and a good selection of on tap beers to enjoy after a long time locked down
S. C.
Usual wetherspoons experience, cheap and cheerful, app is brilliant, good selection of beers 🍻
M. B.
Yet another great Weatherspoons public house, good atmosphere, good food.
P. G.
Great pub has a number of side dinning rooms where families are welcome up to 9pm week nights and 7pm Friday and Saturday which is great when you are visiting on holiday with the family. Seemed to be very busy between 5pm and 7pm so if you can time your visit after 7pm when there is seating available. Food and drink to the usual spoons standards. Well worth a visit.
K. E.
Lovely atmosphere and great service well done all of you, had a fab afternoon !
D. C.
Views outside the door food fab staff could be more helpful
L. D.
Beautiful building, standard wetherspoons food and drinks, definitely worth a visit.
C. M.
What you see is what you get. Good food and drink and reasonably priced. Great for people who like real ales and good conversation because there is no background music or juke box. Only drawback is when things get busy there is no orderly queue so a wait at the bar can take longer than you would like or wish for. A good idea would also be to have a separate till for food as this would maybe speed things up 🤔
T. W.
Very spacious and clean pub. Always busy but plenty of staff
D. “. H.
Nice pub. Amazing building. A bit imposing, not very cosy. Getting drinks was hard work
F. A.
I love the place. Every time I visit Edinburgh I pop in and order a pint or two :)
Food is very good. Could be better, though, but it's very good value for money.
There is a huge offer of local ales at a very affordable price.
M. T.
I had a Tuna Cheese Melt. Could've done with more cheese, portion size was ample. Food was served hot, fast service. Really enjoyed the scenary and atmosphere. Amazing building inside and outside. Very central for everybody. I would recommend for families
A. E.
Very interesting place and well maintained not at all shabby like the one in herne Bay
J. C.
Food served HOT on HOT plates. Lovely.
B. G.
Usual witherspoon very busy and drinks at affordable price service at bar was a little slow
D. J. M.
Big problem for the older Generation with the use of apps to order beers.. This penchant for technology.. Takes forever.... I was standing on my young.. Having walked from the Haymarket.... Forms to fill,..... Made to stand at the door for some time... Then... Downloading of the app... (After finding the Internet)...... I was screaming for a pint..... Can't life be a little easier..... I just want to relax, socialise... And have a drink...... Howay Man....
J. O.
Beautiful building in one of Edinburgh's finest streets, George St. Was the main branch of a bank. Sensitively restored and decorated with a good menu and great prices for such a major location. Gets very busy though at lunchtime so best to avoid the peak hour of one pm to two pm.
P. H.
What to say. A typical Wetherspoons. Spotless toilets, a spectacular building and a vast range of cheap food and drink. Quick service on the app. Brilliant city centre location. Feels crowded to comply with covid 19 restrictions.
r. s.
Friendly staff and a great venue with remarkable decor
P. W.
Great range of food and drink
Good value for money
Staff provided excellent service
Highly recommended
G. T.
Cool atmosphere due to fact it is a pub based around an old bank building. The good points were the price of meals and quality of them. The negative aspect was that the table we ended up sitting at was dirty and no one came to clean the glasses etc away.
I. L.
Reasonably priced and you can order from your table via the app. That saves a long wait in the queue at busy times. It is pot luck as to whether or not you get a table as the volume of people all wanting one is incredible during busy spells. The toilets are down a narrow set of stairs so beware of that.
l. s.
Very clear guidelines, app works great & great breakfast
R. R.
Good food ... Good beer .. great prices...
t. k.
Very good service pleasent staff value for money
K. S.
Food for lunch was VERY reasonably priced and really good! Thankfully I went in on a Thursday, Curry Day or something, and the Chicken Tikka Massala was fantastic. The Bar staff were all friendly too. Sat for several hours and worked from my computer with no issues or complaints. Free WiFi too! Beautiful facility that I believe was previously a bank. Highly recommend.
S. T.
Nice atmosphere and good beer selection.... But the food is absolute rubbish. Overcooked reheated Wetherspoon food. My steak pie was mostly inedible. Half of the gravy was dried to the inside of the rock hard shell. Nice place to enjoy a pint, but eat down the road somewhere else
D. J.
We enjoyed great service and a lovely brunch here. The full Scottish and pancake breakfasts were delicious. Despite it being so busy with lots of rugby fans the service was great.
