Reviews of Scotia Bar
D. M.
We had the best time at The Scotia when we visited in April! The Scottish Ale was fantastic and we even learned how and what whisky to drink! We will definitely return the next time we’re in Glasgow!
N. C.
I have to mention that Scotia Bar was a great surprise during my stay in Glasgow! You can really feel the vibe of Scotland in this pub, that is apparently the oldest in town.
I specifically really enjoyed the Whiskey I got to try. They have a decent selection with really reasonable prices (around 3.50£ a glass). What I really enjoyed was the kindness of the staff, they were extremely polite and open to answer all the doubts I had. I ended up trying a couple of Scotch suggested and they were just great! I would definitely come back again.
A. A. M.
A really Scottish pub, amazing atmosphere and a great variety of beers.

Lovely old pub, oldest in Glasgow. Has a warm relaxing atmosphere, occasional music nights add to the blend. Great choice of ales. Friendly staff.

My first time in Scotia bar(,but not the last).Friendly quick service from the bar staff a Tasty Cold Guinness while listening to a great variety of songs from *Sad Ida* band. The toilets were spotlessly clean which makes this a Pub I would certainly recommend.

A lovely place with wonderful warm people and bright music.

Great beer in this friendly old pub. Or any other drinks if you want. More tourists than locals judging by the accents.

I love a pub with atmosphere and the Scotia has it in spades. The real ale was well served and good value.
A. R.
Traditional pub with very friendly staff, a wide range of well kept real beers and regular live music. The prices were very reasonable.
This is a traditional old pub with lots of little rooms half hidden away which gives a lot of privacy. When I visited it was spotlessly clean.
I'll definitely be going back.

What a stunning wee bar! A gem in Glasgow's pub crown, I think. Went in not long ago and found the place to be welcoming, warm, and wonderfully affordable. The staff were on top form (special thanks to Ryan, with the red hair! Good man, helped me pick out the perfect whisky) and I didn't want to leave when closing time came. Will definitely be back in the near future.
L. R.

Brilliant bar which is apparently the oldest pub in Glasgow. Went here after attending TRNSMT festival and met some fellow music lovers and like minded people which was fantastic. Lots of old world charm to the place, highly recommend a wee visit here if you get the chance.

The Scotia is a traditional Scottish pub that's true to its roots and one of the oldest pubs in Scotland dating back to the 1700s.
Kind friendly staff are always on hand to serve clean fresh lagers and a wide range of spirits.
Sports and live music are always available and the patrons are some of the nicest people you will meet.
If you get the chance to pop in when big John is on guitar accompanied by Fingers on harmonica your in for something special.
Theres not much I can add without using superlatives like fantastic amazing and great.
S.
Only managed to catch the last hour in this pub on a Saturday night but wish I'd been there sooner. Great atmosphere, people, music and beer. Definitely my 'must go to' pub next time I'm in Glasgow 🙂
W. A.
Pub looks rough from the outside but impressive inside - real character!!!!
C. S.
One of Glasgows oldest pubs, was here on a Thursday for locals playing live music which was special.
Would highly recommend dropping in, just make sure you don't go to the upstairs "pool house", it's a different bar.
G. C.
Classic pub, great atmosphere and music.
R. F.
Great trad Glasgow pub, live music good beer.

Was given this pub as a recommendation for our family (ages 23-78) who hail from Canada - was one of the best nights I've had. Amazing musicians, great drinks, friendly patrons and staff -- a real gem in for the city. We would all love to come back again and again!
F. E.
It has a very cosy and authentic atmosphere and a big selection of Gin and Whisky. Dogs are welcome.

A. E.
Amazing wee pub, lovely staff, great beer, awesome music!

My wife and I popped in for a session while visiting from Canada. We had a blast hanging with the locals that have been going to this pub for 30+ years. A proper Scottish pub with some of the nicest folk you'll ever meet. I'll be sure to return next time I find myself back in Glasgow.
A. D.

But they no your waiting an will get served. Great pint of t. Is a bit pricey but that is Glasgow for you. Rock music is played n the background. No sky sports
D. H.
Great old pub.
A. W.
Great pub. Very busy with a wide range of wines, beers and spirits. Nice relaxed atmosphere and quite a traditional style pub. Friendly staff make it a great experience. No food. It's just a great hangout bar.
A. G.
Decent enough. No beers on the handpumps when I was in. Still had decent choice on the high fonts.
If music is the food of love then this is the place to come. If you're looking for actual food don't bother!
G. B.
Great beer, great band and a pub full of character. What's not to like?
T. A.
Felt like we were in a 17th century ship. Really friendly, local pub
K. M. G.
Went in on a Thursday night and a group came in singing old folk songs. Had a really good night only went in for one drink and stayed until band had finished. Bar staff all friendly also will be back again :)
G. M.
Good staff, good people there, good music nothing else required.
j. t.
Fantastic and staff were welcome
J. V.
This was a fantastic visit! Came in as a tourist as I read it was one of the older taverns in town. I talked to a local for about an hour, then he pulled a guitar from behind the bar and started signing folk songs. It was a great experience.
j. c.
Visited because of reviews regarding friendly locals and live music. Unfortunately two large parties of noisy tourists filled the place. Not a local in sight. Bar staff was rushed off her feet. No food being served day I visited. Looked like a nice place to sit late at night and have a drink. Think I might have liked it another time.
R. M.
Great Public House, real public house in the heart of Glasgow.
Fabulous and welcoming staff .
Will use even more often than we have!
P. S. (.
Characterful and popular. I enjoyed visiting and the Guiness. On the Saturday evening I was there the place was full of people and live music was playing.
Love the foreign bank notes hung from the ceiling (above the bar) and the intimate size of the venue.
G. P.
Great place!
C. W.
Loved the bar. Shame about the dour barman x
J. M.
The Scotia Bar is the place to be if you a stranger in the place ia the best way to make new friends and the beer is great and the staff are great as qell
c. c.
Haven't been here for thirty plus year's glad to see it hasn't changed
I. M.
Oldest Pub in Glasgow ,and still got the uneven floor beams etc,an exceptionally good old traditional Glasgow pub with character and history and always popular with tourists good traditional music and live bands before and hopefully after Covid 19 . I would thoroughly recommend anyone visiting Glasgow to pay a visit for all the Beers and Ales and wide selection of Malt whiskies and other spirits including multiple Find🍺🍸
I. C.
Tremendous traditional pub. Bands at the week end and, if you're lucky, you'll catch an impromptu folk session of local musicians.
Relaxed atmosphere and general and all round good time with decent folks.
J. K.
Great bartenders and solid drink selection. Hannah and Ryan gave us some great whisky suggestions based on other whiskies that we enjoyed. Got invited to jam session with Dennis and Glasgow Jimmy, a real treat for a visitor from another country to be invited in like family!
M. D.
brilliant pub, always was. unfortunately i had to make an exit because my mate and my partner made me feel like a fool. no accounting for certain folks but still an excellent inn. i would recommend to all and sundry. keep up the good work, mick
A. K.
Proper old pub, great atmosphere.
B. S.
Lovely local bar with very friendly helpful staff. We were there mid-afternoon but they advertised live music most if not all evenings. We'll worth a visit.
J. K.
Great venue, good atmosphere friendly staff and regulars, live music amazing
A. S.
Great little pub. Craft beer and life music. Usually packed on the weekends. Well recommended to experience local going out and Scottish pub culture. Parking on the street or a street away parking lot available. They have different bank notes currencies hanging above the bar, if you are a foreigner grab a note from your country.
J. M.
Really nice traditional really old pub with nice antique wood features. A smallish but good selection of fresh pints, Williams Brothers Joker IPA, Kelburn Goldihops, 8 Degrees Citra IPA. Nice leather seating and atmosphere with music Thu-Sun.
M. T.
One of the oldest pubs in Glasgow and my local for many years. Great if you like folk music (ask behind the bar for an instrument of you want to join in). Ambiance is great, but the decor is a little rough around the edges.
K. R.
Friendly staff. Old and quirky also a bit spooky
D. M.
This is the oldest pub in Glasgow and it is simply unique. It's low ceilings, severely sloping floors, ancient wooden and glass fixtures and past-centuries atmosphere is as much a wee museum as a pub. There is music on most evenings and often during the daytime, including impromptu jam sessions among regular folk music lovers. You can't visit Glasgow and claim to have seen our pubs without visiting the Scotia. The range of ales is always excellent and it changes regularly. Staff are brilliant. What more can I say. TRY it.
J. J.
Love this bar, very friendly & great when a band is on
P. H.
First visit here, a proper boozer, from the selection of beer to the uneven floor, you don't find many pubs like this in any city. Next time in Glasgow I'll be adding this to my list of pubs I'll visit along with the Clutha across the road from it.
p. c.
After the reopen of the lock down the service received as been spot on. The staff freidlylist is so welcome..the table service as been brilliant.thr lack of atmosphere is not ideal but when talking it helps...well done to all staff. An see you all soon. Take care
A. W.
Really liked this wee bar. Girl behind the bar was very friendly and efficient.
H. B.
What a wonderful pub. I would highly recommend visiting this fine establishment for a pint or two. Fantastic music and friendly staff. A real gem of a place. We will be back to Glasgow again and we shall be hitting this pubeen...
B. S.
Great old school Scottish pub. Packed to the gills, most everyone already well on their way to a night of live punk/Americana/Scot. standards by 9pm...
They welcomed and toasted to this American..thank you! Love Glasgow....
A. H.
Great pub in the center of Glasgow
A. S.
Great old fashioned pub, bar staff very friendly as are clientele. Music can be a little loud but that may just be my age. 4*
L. M.
Great pub for live music and friendly banter. Always something on
D. T.
Great selection of beer, gin and whisky served by very pleasant staff. Must be one of the nicest pubs in Glasgow.
Folk music on a Thursday evening.
p.
Probably one of Glasgow's most famous bar, frequented by many famous musicians, comedians and artists over its history. Good sized pool room upstairs too. Always worth a visit.
A. L.
Def one of the best pubs in Glasgow. Great atmosphere - live music ranging from folk to rock. Also one of the oldest pubs in Glasgow with lots of character and many of its original features.
L. B.
I've never met more friendly stuff in my life.
J. M.
Great bar fantastic atmosphere, friendly staff.
L. P.
Lovely wee pub, friendly staff good atmosphere.
J. M.
Catrina number 1 loved this bar
S. M.
One of glasgow's oldest pubs and you can tell it's steeped in history. A lot of old features retained which makes for a good atmosphere. Good Glasgow pub! Just maybe not all the flashy features more modern pubs have
C. D.
Great bar for music and the banter bar staff friendly
J. G.
Great Ambience great service and great prices
J. O.
Great music. Friendly locals. Great place.
T. C.
It's yer archetypal "auld Glaswegian pub" - and it's no bad thing.
The music can be amazing, especially on jam nights, the Guinness is probably the best pint in Glasgow, if not Scotland. The punters are a proper mix, and the bar itself has tons of nooks and crannys to hide yourself in if you just want to sit with your thoughts, or the paper, or your beer.
Pretty damned cheap for a city centre pub, and free wifi to boot. This is often my place to start off a busy night of pub wandering.
It's well known for a reason, folks. There's pool tables upstairs, but I must admit, I've never tried them.
Easily one of the most welcoming city centre pubs I've been in, with a touch of character that many miss out on these days. Highly recommended.
L. M.
Nice beers with a lot of choice. Kind bar keepers!
R. B.
Cheap pints, good music, good pool tables. What more can you ask for. Been to better pubs, hense the the 4 starts, but if your after a chill place and cheap drinks, this is your place.
B. R.
Great place. Oldest bar in Glasgow. Good scotch selections and helpful servers. A bargain and they often have musicians playing traditional tunes.
a. v.

B. L.
I live in dublin but holiday in the highlands every year and always pay a visit to the great city of glasgow. This my favourite bar.Affable staff.Edwardian decor.Few tourists and lots of friendly locals as off the central area.Good malt whisky selection
S.
Like this bar. Has live music often. Bar staff are polite and knowledgeable. Only thing is just a wee bit pricey for 25ml spirits...
K.
The oldest pub in Glasgow made in 1792!If you wanna breath the air of the past i suggest to visit it , it's a must of the city where you can find traditional drinks and good music a lot of time during the week
a. h.
3rd visit cosy and friendly
E. Z.
Seriously we went into this pub after it claimed that it was the oldest pub in Glasgow and truly it does have a vintage feel into it but the bar tender doesn't do/know any alcoholic cocktail and can only pour one type of liquor at a time is disappointing... prices are very low btw...
J. L.
It's a (very) old school bar, decent beer and you meet a wide variety of people here though it's better if there some music on.
S. T.
I've been to this pub off and on for years and traditional wee pub at the side of the street.
B. R.
Great selection of drinks, even better atmosphere
S. M.
Friendly staff, great fresh beer .
J. C.
Thursday night at the Scotia is a must do if you are in Glasgow. . The songs, led by Tommy and Jimmy are wonderful. . Just do it's a favour..... Shut up when they are singing... It's just good manners.

Cool bar okay beer selection, I went with a big group which I wouldn't recommend, they didn't really have the space for it. But a cool place if you only have a few friends with you.
S. D.
Stopped here as it was the first pub next to our hotel (holiday Inn express) nice cosy pub with a god charm and good service too
S. H.

As I was told and felt it is "an old men's boozer". Just an old pub for old folk, smells old a bit too. Wouldn't be my first choice in terms on pubs, but does the jobs and drinks are relatively cheap
