Reviews of The Griffin

FABULOUS REOPENING OF ICONIC PUB.
Wandered in for a drink with friends after great show at the nearby King's Theatre.
The pub is in great shape, the staff really friendly and the atmosphere vibrant as ever. It is SO nice to see The Griiffin open again. Theatre goers and office workers alike will be delighted. Well done to The Isle of Skye Brewing Company - Lang may yer lum reek!
t.
Iconic city centre bar. I’m biased as I’ve been drinking here forever but it’s a great place for a drink. Typical offerings for draught and spirits but it’s cosy and cool with some colourful characters
R. W.
Stopped by today while in Glasgow for some food and a couple of drinks now it’s back open. Food was superb. They have a great chef who I heard brought his own team with him. Very high standard. Pints lovely and cold and staff lovely and warm. What’s not to like.
J. F.
Now open again after being taken over by the Isle of Skye, this Glasgow establishment located opposite the King's Theatre has a fresh feel but retaining its character. With a great selection of beers and other drinks, it also offers a good choice of food. The staff are friendly and helpful too. It deserves a visit and should become a firm favourite and is recommended.
M. S.
Great place, very clean and staff are friendly and accommodating. Busy times I think would be before and after the theatre.
The food was fantastic Isle of Skye beer braised steak and beef cheek pie with cheddar mash, the best I've ever tasted
D. M. D.
Amazing little pub! Gorgeous! We tried the Scottish haggis small plate, I've had haggis a few times since. Thank you guys! Check this place out!
J. M.
Fab day at the Griffin with 7 friends on Saturday. Food and drink amazing. Special thanks to Jenny, Linda and kiera and all the other staff who were just lovely even though it was very busy
f. p.
Myself and mum had tickets for a show in the Kings and were so excited that the Griffin was back open. It didn't disappoint. The staff, namely Jen and Shona were just fabulous. Customer service was crazy good. So so sweet and genuinely engaging! The food was lovely. The Chef's tartare sauce made me a bit silly it was that good ooooft, chunky yummy 😍 please give this place a go it's awesome 😁
N. G.
Food was lovely but the staff were a bit all over the place and had different tables foods all over the place, received wrong food twice and waited a while
For the full tables food. For 2 adults and 3 kids to receive £5 off an £80 bill was a bit disappointing
D. C.
Pre- night drinks for our night out. Managed to secure a corner a d the staff were excellent. Great atmosphere in the bar.
S. I.
Brilliant to see the pub reopened. We ate here and prices very reasonable and we all enjoyed everything we ate. We will be back.
S. B.
A large half and half pub. Food in one half of the venue and drinks in the other. Staff absolutely lovely. What a great bar!
S. H.
A group of us had lunch here before going to the panto...Oh! Yes we did!!
After the panto we returned for dinner.
Food was good, staff were lovely.
S. D.
A beautiful looking bar. A bit cold, understandably due to the current climate, but most definitely worth a drop in.
M. M.
Had lunch and drinks , lunch was lovely ,only one criticism the fish batter was a bit soggy , but was replaced right away with new ones but wasn't any better to be honest , drinks expensive £7 for a glass of wine , rest of the groups meal was really good .
M. P.
Opening night was festive with welcoming friendly people. Class place for anyone who wants a good pint and cheer.
G. M.
Used to go here years ago and it's still one of the best. Great atmosphere. M&G🏴
c. c.
Great pub drank in here many many years ago glad to see it has not changed that much and brought back some good memories as I walked in. A good pint of Guinness served by friendly and welcoming bar staff and only hope it will not be that long before I am back
C. E.
Nice pub, excellent Skye beer and good food. Can't wait to come back!
C. B.
Yeah, nice to see you open again, great bar atmosphere for the after working workerforce, bit pricey, but also good clientele so pleased overall
B.
This is a very good pub with great decor and atmosphere. However, in the six months since I last visited, it has declined as it has tried to accommodate the hipster crowd (unsuccessfully, I'd say).
On my last visit, the staff were nice but not attentive and the young lady behind the bar seemed to be working at her own pace, even though the bar was quiet.
Six months ago, I gave The Griffin five stars.
It's four now.
I'm also not convinced by the quality of some of their new beers.
But the hash with black pudding and pulled pork was nice.
B. A.
Really nice old pub. Been refurbished.
Friendly staff. Nice atmosphere.
p. c.
Nice pub with good food, well worth a visit.
I. K.
Any pub which sells Skye Red must be worth a visit... Especially when they know how to handle real ales! 😉
S. J.
Great to have our work's local open again!
C. F.
Lovely pub across the road from a theatre. Friendly staff 😁
L. A.
Fantastic pub. The Skye beer is top notch too.
G. T.
Lovely pub, perfect services and cozy atmosphere
J. D. (.
Great pub, love what they have done with the kitchen
V. B.
Can't remember much too drunk. Beer was good though I can remember that.
N. A.
Left steamboat. What a night. Staff were nice
L. “. M.
Lovely gin menu good food and nice friendly staff x
G. T.
Been coming here for 30yrs, worked there too. Great nights had there
d. b.
Lovely pint in a nice big pub 👍
A. C.
Top boozer! Staff are lovely and there's always tunes playing.
S. S.
Good food plenty of spaces to enjoy company
P. R. (.
Glasgow Defcon #DC44141 meet here first Tuesday of every month in the stage door from 7:30pm.
The staff are great and the selection of beer is good.
P. M.
Traditional style pub with plenty of character which is getting harder to come by these days. Tends to be busy Friday and Saturday and not the easiest place to find a seat but there's a big bar area and seats outside. Nice mix of ages with good prices and staff are friendly.
S.
I have been here many times over the last 30 odd years and have no complaints.. The food is decent and the staff are very nice. It is a traditional pub with beautiful glass inside and out. This pub is a Glasgow landmark well worth a visit. The mince and potatoes are my favourite dish.
R. C.
Amazing place, old-style like pubs should be! Quite quiet when I visited but plenty of staff. Only one real ale on but that was good. A shame it doesn't offer more as I'm sure it would bring others in (but I was told it is rammed when theatre is open!).
Definitely worth a visit, if only to view the place!
L. R.
Just good. Right opposite the Kings Theatre and popular. Good ales too.
F. B.
I've been here a few times and always had great service. Nice pub to hang out in with friends and have a chat. They also have a decent function room. Very well located for pre/post theatre drinks as it is just across the road
M.
Great traditional pub with a lovely, friendly atmosphere and cheerful, helpful staff. The menu offers a selection of typical bar meals. Food is well cooked and service in the restaurant is well managed. Prices are very reasonable and it's just across the road from the Kings Theatre so an ideal place for meals and/or drinks before a show.
K. H.
This is an almost forgotten gem of a bar, I'm almost reluctant to tell you all about it in case you come and spoil it! 😂 Staff are great and food is tasty and quick to the table. Fantastic range of ales, whisky, gins etc. Groovy little table booths that enables a bit of privacy. Top notch.
K. B.
Great pub to eat in before show directly across road at Kings Theatre. Nice booths for small or large groups offering privacy if that's what you wish also. Great reasonably priced menu wth good selection so something for all. Drink reasonably priced, 3 pints for just under £15.00 which is great for uptown these days in my experience. Staff quick and helpful. Toilets clean. Good pub no complaints at all. Try it x
i. H.
This pub was across the street from our appartment, which means if we wanted a quick pint we would go here. The staff is nice, the venue looks good and well taken care off. Prices are a wee bit on the higher side. Its mostly a pub for people over 20-25 I'd say so we felt a little out of place.
G. S.
Nice cozy place, variety of beers and whiskies, try a John's Smith
F. G.
I was in a couple of years ago for the first time in 40 years. It was thankfully largely unchanged. I was however astonished at the asking price for a scotch pie and beans (an old student staple), £8.The Kings cafe round the corner does this for £3.
I went in again last week and wanted to show an incredulous friend the menu but the place had changed hands. The menu was very interesting and reasonable and good cocktail menu and friendly staff.Great that its still got its original decor.
J.
Fun atmosphere, great service
M. M. 4.
We stopped in for a quick drink before heading out for a night out. We ended up staying until closing. It was a Thursday night and they had two musicians on. They were the best and the music was great !!!! I couldn't of asked for a better night. If anyone wants to hear quality music by the most down to earth guys, you have to stop in, on a Thursday! We well make the Griffin, our destination every time we are in town.
L. B.
Great food, service couldn't have been better. Good portion sizes and excellect quality. I had Beer battered haddock, large piece of fish in a very taste batter. Perfect for a Pre-theatre for the Kings, just across the road.
T. Q.
A quality bar in Glasgow city centre (near the King's Theatre and Sauchiehall Street area). Nice range of beers. Booths in one part of the bar, stools in another section by the bar, and a gin bar at the back. A nice mix of crowd. Not many students. There's always good banter. The bar staff are nice. I visit every once in a while and every visit is positive. Would recommend.
S.
Beautiful listed interior. Lots of wood panelling. Very laid back atmosphere. As it was Wednesday it was pretty quiet.
Due to its close proximity to the kings theatre I know that it is really busy at Weekends.
E. S.
I have very poor mobility but every member of staff and customers were very helpful and courteous. The French Martinis were some of the best I've had. The disabled toilet was roomy and easily accessible. Great night all in!
D. H.
Authentic atmosphere and friendly staff.
V. M.
First time in this bar, we had tickets to go to the theatre and as it's across the road from the kings we thought it was ideal to grab a bite to eat and a drink before the show. The food was delicious and the service was first class. Definitely be back.
K.
Famous, traditional, old school city centre pub. Plenty of beers, booth style seating. Lunch menu reasonably priced. Staff very friendly. Wide age range.
R. M.
Lovely sweet potato tacos. Unfortunately, £9.50 for 3 pieces of chicken and 3 tacos with an underwhelming side salad seems a bit much. Also waiter was waiting over us while still eating trying to take the plates away. Rude. Lovely gin as always.
J. N.
Clientele seemed a bit .... Entitled? Which is weird but the staff were nice and the actual place itself was nice. Wasn't sure if it was the comedy gig that was attracting the crowd but it didn't feel particularly welcoming or friendly
J. F.
Great atmosphere, as well as live music. They had a wide selections of beer, wine, cocktails, ciders and more. Really enjoyed the overall vibe of the place - great way to catch up with friends.
T. S.
Nice wee pub, good atmosphere. Never had any food but it looked good. It's not a fancy place but it's good pit stop before going to the Kings theatre, directly across the road.
I. T.
Good range of drinks and food is not to expensive. Big oval bar in the centre of the pub which gives it that proper old fashioned pub feel about it. There are a few cubicles for seating as well as tables/chairs and there is seating outside
S.
Good selection of beer and ales. Great night out.
M. J.
One of Glasgow oldest.Pub with great atmosphere, good food and friendly stuff.
G. G.
Glasgow pub situated across the road from the Kings theatre which has been there for years.
It serves pub grub, a great selection of drinks and has quite a mixed crowd in at weekends. A lot of theatre goers use it before and after shows due to its close proximity.
Recommended.
K. D.
Very popular . Close to Kings. Good food and ambience. Great atmosphere.
L. B.
Brilliant service and absolutely delicious food. Not just good or very good - excellent! Looked for a pre-theatre menu before family night at the theatre and was lucky enough to find the Griffin - and right across the road😁. Had high hopes given the reviews but still exceeded my expectations. House speciality herb and parmesan coated chicken goujons, dips and sweet potato fries were fantastic. My BBQ aubergine - I have no idea how they managed to cook it so perfectly. Even the small kids menu was great. And dessert? A crumble to die for and bananabockerglory me and my son literally fought over. Thanks for the perfect start to our evening!
F. M.
Another great traditional Glasgow bar. The staff member who was on that day could have been a tad more friendly. It was Sunday afternoon. Maybe she had a late one the night before?
J. W.
My daughter and I were there yesterday for an afternoon tea and a cocktail. The food and drink was delicious. The staff were outstanding. They could not do enough for you and were very polite and made you feel special.
R. L.
Good food. Slightly limited menu. Friendly staff and a beautifully maintaned traditional pub. Always come back here, especially for the beer.
A. L.
Good food, good beer and a nice atmosphere
G. F.
Great wee place for a drink and a bite to eat. Easy to find, but mind there are two extra rooms running down the length of Elmbank street. Both with doors onto the street and both seemingly called the Gin Palace heh. Makes for fun finding people. Had two Christmas work meet ups here and will be back for a third.
R. A.
Good Glasgow pub - decent range of beers and now a gin palace as well. Had a refurb and a new menu. Food always been good and well priced and glad to say it still is.
S. M.
Saw a number of shows at the Glasgow International comedy festival here. Great little venue around the back. Decent beer selection too. Decor is a little dated
A. F.
Been coming here occasionally for 40 years now, including last night before going to the King's to see Roy Wood in concert, and who did I meet in the Griffin? Yep, the man himself! Great pub, great atmosphere!
A. B.
Nipped in before going to a gig. Had a really nice gin. Friendly staff. Great selection for gin lovers. If i was a local, think it might be my 'local'.
V. S.
What an amazing find! Traditional Glasgow pub in West end of Bath Street - lunch food was Mac ‘n Cheese with Chorizo & Jalapino and home made Chicken Gougons with a choice of coatings (we chose Herb & Parmesan. Both these wonderful meals included good side salad & chips or tacos & ALL for only £12!
M. M.
Great old Glasgow pub serving good food and variety of drinks. They have a Gin Palace and they occasionally have screenings of old movies as part of a dinner package. Highly recommended.
p.
Always liked the Griffin and delighted that Jason and Tommy have produced an open mic night for it...played there a couple of weeks ago and it couldn't have gone better...friendly and relaxed atmosphere and Tommy was sounding great...very nice vocals and a top player...Will defo be back
C. W.
Good selection of drams; attentive and helpful bar staff; traditional furnishings and decor; good feel about the place. The menu looked interesting so I'll be back.
I. U.
Local. Nice pint.
E. D.
Nice place with great selections of gin, cool staff and music in the background. Only disadvantage is that before and after theater shows it's always packed.
M. R.
The staff is great and friendly and that's the only thing that makes this pub great. Was with my colleagues last week, the pub is not up to date but can do better with interior refreshment.
J. C.
Great staff, good atmosphere, one of bestand oldest bars in Glasgow, the traditional interior is pretty stunning , really handy for theatre too
M. M.
Brilliant bar, always has been. If your in Glasgow you must drop in here for a beer. Few different bars within it each with its own character.
J. R.
We were a big group of guys, warm welcome with great beer and good food. Staff were superb as well as the music 👌
s. c.
Returned to one of my old student haunts which amazingly hasn't changed during the intertwining years . Pleasant atmosphere in a historically preserved decor offering good traditional vitals and an extensive range of libations .
S.
Had a couple of starters as a light lunch. We thought the food was great. Squid nice and crispy and the bean and chorizo stew delicious
B. K.
Good, average drinking and eating spot with an very good range of beers and spirits and a very knowledgeable barman. Traditional wooden interior. Authentic.
E. M.
Just stopped by for a couple of drinks before heading to a friends. Nice options and nice staff. The atmosphere is really nice too
m. s.
Thnx griffin great food
V. E.
Very kind and friendly staff. Fast service. Good and tasty food. Good price: 13.5 pounds for 2 courses!
F. H.
On Saturday 4th Aug., Myself and 2 friends enjoyed cocktails and we had the Griffin's homemade burgers which were very good 😊
A. O.
This place was SUPER cute! The bartender was very nice and the Fish and Chips were great!! The Rhubarb and Ginger Gin was AWESOME!
G. Q.
Food very good and service excellent despite pub being very busy with theatregoers to Kings when we went in - liked idea of cocktails being topical to current show - was various characters and situations in Legally Blonde that week !!
G. M.
Great classic Glasgow bar... I hadnt been there fr years and it didnt disappoint my nostalgic memories. Everyone was friendly and very funny! Proper night out!
s. b.
Never been, just know Primal Scream and Jesus and Mary Chain used to drink there so 5 stars in my books
A. B.
Excellent menu, I opted for a traditional mince'n'tatties and thoroughly enjoyed it. Joker IPA good too.
J. M. N.
It has and always will be a special place in Glasgow. Not for fancy panters! Just down to brass tacks basics, but really captures the spirit of the city
L. J. A.
Long established. Great for pre drinks and night caps when in town. A proper pub with snug booths and cosy feel. Good gin options 😀🍸🌛
E. L.
Fab pre-theatre meal and a great atmosphere! Even played the soundtrack to the show we were about to see at that King's, nice touch.
O. D.
Cracking traditional pub. Very ornate and atmospheric. Great crowd of unpretentious folk dressed up for a good evening out.
A. G.
Glasgow city pub, great food, beers and gins, good atmosphere and decent prices. Handy for Kings theatre and Sauchiehall st area.
A. C.
Good traditional Glasgow pub. One of my favourites when I'm up the West End of Sauchiehall St. Good choice of drinks, good music, good staff, good decor.
P. W.
Decent beer, close to premier inn where we stayed. Was quiet on the saturday we visited, around 6pm.
I. G.
Great pub handy for the theatre. Food delicious good value. Staff very friendly.
G. W.
Was there for a friend's 50th - catering was top notch and the bar staff were great. Highly recommended
S. B.
Food cud have been better ,no chicken ,no lasagna ,no roast beef or steak pie ,chips were over cooked ,the desserts were just ok ,think the menu needs looking at
A. C.
Good old fashioned Glasgow bar with attentive staff, well kept beer and a convivial atmosphere.
R. H.
Little corner pub with an alright selection of beer. Apparently I he kitchen is closed, don't know if that is permanent. Just can't really be a pub without food and it most certainly not a hip or trendy gin joint.
p.
Really good old man pub in town, great choice of drinks. One of my favourite stops from the shiny pop up bars.
A. A.
The perfect place for a pre/mid/post theatre drink. Great location, chatty staff, and a great selection of drinks!
K. M.

Bar staff are so friendly. Meal was amazing. I would highly recommend.
P. R.
Good all round pub meals, can be very crowded if near the theatre time as lots of theater patrons go in before show.
C. M.
Good to see it back
S. B.
Best burger I have had in some time!, friendly staff, warm bar, lovely drinks 👍👍👍
G. D.
Great pre theatre pub. Don't go 15 mins before the show though or you won't get a drink before you need to go in.
H. C.
Wonderful pub, service and atmosphere, is now and always has been the best pub in Glasgow
N. N.

M. H.
Really busy at times however the service was still good. Nice food and even nicer desserts
R. T.
Make sure you turn off location on your phone before entering. They spam you to death until you write something. I've had constant messages for the last 6 days asking me to write something.
Other than that, it's a good little pub.
R. S.
Food was awesome, gin was amazing it was very busy but the service was pretty slow.
