Wow, what a restaurant by far my firm favourite now. Great staff who cannot do enough for you. A great easy to choose menu….. I went with the Salt An Pepper Calamari for Starters and for my Main the Duo of Lamb. My son had Pizza and chips and may I add was absolutely lovely. My other half had the Sirloin Steak which was melt in the mouth good. Both were absolutely fantastic. Great place I will be back.

Not our first time and the food is always delicious. We had the seabass and the chicken pie both with spring onion mash which is amazingly tasty. Our dog had treats and fresh water from the station and it is a very relaxing stop for all of us. The staff were very friendly and it was very easy to book online.

Been here a few times recently. The food is pretty good. The drinks are okay. Service is great, especially Danny. My only gripe is that they're out of all sorts of things all the time. Food, beer, drinks - tons of stuff out of stock. Simplify the menu or reduce the drinks on offer.

Been here twice in the last two weeks and not a fault to be found in the service of the food! I don’t think I’ve ever had such attentive waiting staff. Great selection of food on offer which is on the table nice and quick. Highly recommend Red Deer - Granite City Canoe Club will be back!

The Red Deer was fantastic. Lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff on arrival. Shown to our table straight away and drinks with us in no time . The food was delicious and again I must mention the staff friendliness and as on a few occasions we were asked if everything was fine. Great place to stop for lunch on our journey back home. The staff were very helpful and especially accommodating of our somewhat bouncy dog. Food was tasty and well prepared, good menu choices and reasonably priced. Thoroughly recommended, especially if you are looking for somewhere to eat and have a dog with you.

Isn't somewhere I'd normally think of going, but decided to give it a go on Friday night. Booked ahead, but was plenty of space anyway. Service was friendly and decent. Food was good. I had the pate and then the pork special, my wife had the calamari and then the house burger, which looked incredible (she's 8 months pregnant and doesn't share food now lol). I also had the banoofee pie. The food couldn't be faulted. The only gripe was no one came to ask if we wanted another drink.

Our visit was very pleasant, helped particularly by the staff (Rachel, Danny & Alan). There was a slight issue with one of our starters being a bit cold, but other than that the food was fine. We ordered a starter & couple of side dishes to make up a vegetarian meal, which was no issue, and served as a complete meal, which was appreciated.

Nice pub. Awesome food - homemade/everything made in the pub kitchen. Good menu. Visited twice. First time on Friday 7th we couldn't fault anything. On Sunday 9th the front of house service wasn't as good. But on both visits the food was awesome. 10 out of 10 for the kitchen team. Next time we're in the area we'll visit again.

Lovely, cosy, frendltly pub. The Red Deer is next to Cumbernauld Travelodge, so very handy for travellers. It looks very traditional & cosy from the outside & really is on the inside! They serve the normal drinks you would expect, including a guest draft ale which I always welcome. The food was lovely, well prepared, piping hot and quickly served. It was a little expensive for what it was, as are the also rather nice breakfasts, but given the pub ambience, all in in I would say it was worth it!

We stopped by to meet a friend on our way further north back in Oct 21 and had our dog with us. We were made to feel SO welcome which isn't always a given when you have a dog with you, and the staff were especially friendly and made a real fuss of her! The Red Deer has a lovely cosy, welcoming atmosphere with its two fires, yummy food and friendly / helpful staff. The staff are so kind and accommodating, especially with our toddler. The bar is also dog friendly for well behaved dogs and there's nice outdoor seating for sunny days too.

A wonderful place to visit at any time of year it's free to enter not signed from main road so can be tricky to find car park please note there is a short walk from there to castle itself you may find it closed at times I don't know why but it's managed by historic Scotland please stick to the paths as the castle is a ruin so might be danger of falling stones enjoy it we do every time we visit so much so we had our handfest ceremony there but you need to seek permissions from land owner

We had dinner in the Cumbernauld Red Deer restaurant last night 29th April. It was a family meal for our granddaughters birthday. The three guys running the restaurant that night were just fantastic. The table was perfect, they took care of the great cake reveal, service was great as was the food and everyone enjoyed the evening, even our three dogs. Well done guys, you made us feel special and we’re just lovely.

Went down last night for our 1st post lockdown drink and it was so uplifting to be greeted by the wonderful Ben who is always so cheery and attentive. His colleague who unfortunately I didn't ask his name was equally attentive. The staff in the red deer make this place so please don't change

The food was excellent in quality. The amount of soup provided was considerably less than I would have expected, the amount of the main course was adequate as long as you are not too hungry. I am diabetic and therefore the amount I can eat is limited by the carbohydrate content, had it not been for that, I could have eaten half as much again. Others may not find this of course, perhaps I am greedy. The service was first class. The waitress was extremely pleasant and helpful. I liked the ambience of the place because it reminded me of establishments where l had eaten many pleasant meals over many years. If you like good food that you can enjoy in peace and quiet (as it was when we were there) then l recommend The Red Deer.

We went on our way to Aberdeen from Cambridge. We called before we got to the pub and asked if they could have food ready for us when we arrive as wanted to continue driving. When we arrived, staff knew about the booking, food was superb, nothing was too much trouble. Exceptional customer service!

Friendly welcoming staff, typical of old Inn style decor, has seating outside as well in nice surroundings. Food was good and decent portions for set price lunch menu, service was really good as well. Well worth stopping by for a lunch break, haven't been for evening meal yet but menu does look good for that as well.

Warm and cosy just like an inn. Relaxed bar area with a choice of seating, comprising of sofas, armchairs and dining tables and chairs and is dog friendly. I was there for Easter Sunday lunch with a party of 12 and couldn't fault the service and food. 4 of us had the Sunday Roast platter which was delicious and plentiful. Everyone else had various different selections from the menu, which all looked lovely and they all said their meal was great. The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars was because the toilets weren't up to a good standard and were quite smelly. Would definitely go back.

This is one of my favourite places to go for a bite to eat/lunch. Their food is absolutely delicious and it's always presented beautifully. You have a choice to either sit at the "dining area" or you can sit next to the bar which I find more relaxing. The staff are always very friendly and they serve beautiful coffee too. Dogs are welcome here. They have a jar full of dog biscuits and water bowls. Highly recommend.

Generally, the food is very good. However, on our last visit, the soup was pretty tasteless and warm - but not hot. Also, a thing to watch out for is that if you are ever asked if you want cauliflower cheese with your roast dinner, if you say yes, instead of merely getting some on your plate, you'll get a dish on the side with a massive 'meal size' helping.

Visited 27/04/19 to celebrate my 50th. We were a group of 18. The whole visit was excellent from start to finish. Honestly can not find one fault. Food was lovely and despite the group size everything was served in a timely manner. Our server Ben was absolutely outstanding. He was funny and very attentive very good at his job and obviously a people person. He was cracking jokes and looked after us faultlessly. Glasses were never empty as drinks kept flowing. Can't thank the Red Deer enough for giving me a fantastic 50th and looking after the whole party without fuss. To the manager, Ben is not only a credit to you're establishment he's a credit to himself. Please pass on my thanks to him. Looking forward to our next visit. Once again MANY MANY THANKS...

Unfortunately there was a miscommunication and it was assumed we were being served and we therefore had a slightly longer wait than we would have but it was a lovely place to sit and relax. We haven't been here before and had friends staying with us and wanted somewhere close to Kilsyth. Staff were friendly and accommodating. A nice atmosphere. The food was good and good valuve for money. We had a child with us and the children's fish and chip meal was very good. There was nothing on the children's desert menue that he wanted and asked for strawberries so they brought him a dish. We were very satisfied and will go again.

Been in twice now recently as we only found the restaurant before christmas.. meal was lovely its a cosy little place, but a little drafty due to big extractor fans on the walls and the fire places pull in a lot of draft. I've had the gammon egg and chips which was beautiful my partner had the vegitarian dishes which i was assured were very nice too! the wine has a good collection, one simple mistake on the dessert order and we had it corrected almost immediatly the manager was very obliging staff are wonderful and polite. Can recommend full heartedly as we will ne going back more often although i would lovw it if the chef would put a mac and cheese on the menu i had always thought it was a pub staple 😁

Wasn't terribly impressed with this eatery. Trying to be posh nosh but sadly lacking. Service on the day we visited was painfully slow. Staff weren't happy when we went up to the bar for drinks having been seated 15mins before. We weren't tucked away in a corner and it wasn't busy. Food was just ok for price in my opinion. Positives were it was nicely decorated and clean. Lots of parking available.

Gave bad review three years ago but went back with friends last week and found food and atmosphere to be very good only downfall was the £50 fine I had to pay for parking in their car park

More a miss than a hit, steak pie was a huge dome of pastry over the filling, sides were OK mash and a nasty over cooked leek (I think) and carrot oily and mush. Scampi was fine. Decent soup but the fried brie lacked something maybe needs breaded in 2 pieces not 1 but crisp and melted respectively, I've have some great meals at the Michells and Buttler chain but this wasn't one of them, they scratch make a lot so it's down to the kitchen I guess, place was quiet for a Saturday, so maybe the locals have moved on.

Comfy and cosy, in keeping with the Vintage Inns brand, furnished to good standard, and two open fires in winter. Poor entrance signage, and car park layout, and can be difficult to get a space in the evenings if the adjacent Travelodge is busy.
