Reviews of The Stables
J. C.
Absolutely would come back for a drink, seems perfect on a warm day and especially after a walk along the canal. The food unfortunately wasn't the greatest, but it was fairly priced and I've had worse. Next time I come back will just be for a drink.
H. M.
Visited on the 27th April with our 2 dogs and sat outside in the sun. Food was perfect and the server even noticed we had bought food for the dogs and brought out a little dog bowl. Service was second to none. Would like to give a commendation to all 3 servers absolutely brilliant.
P. B.
Beautiful experience with my brother Robert and most definitely would go back staff super fast and friendly and food was very reasonable as well as absolutely delicious 😋 beautiful scenery outside so we sat at table outside it was perfect and I love that next time I can take my dog 🐕as they also provide bowls snacks and fresh drinking water for them 💞
L. W.
Took a wrong turning coming out of Glasgow and stumbled across this absolutely amazing restaurant. Excellent food, lovely friendly staff and very helpful. Mum asked for a very small portion and that's exactly what she got, just perfect size. Mum choked on her pudding and Sophie was very attentive and ready to step in with first aid if required, thankfully not needed though. Highly recommend this lovely place for a meal and will certainly go again.
M. M.
Foods even better (amazing)than last time friendly relaxed atmosphere. Sophie and the team treat everyone as family including dogs.
Great job everyone definitely worth a visit. I've added pics of the desserts totally amazing great presentation.
M. F.
Such lovely staff, definitely make you feel welcome too. The food is amazing. Everything about The Stables is great. I could've ordered the full stock they had of that duck parfait it was that good!! Thank you so much
L. G.
Food was great, really tasty and freshly prepared.
Service could have been better. We had to ask for another drink and then for the bill. Although there were a few staff around, no one checked in on us to see if we needed anything. That being said, they were polite and helpful when we asked.
A. H.
The pub is beautiful & the atmosphere is lovely. Highly recommend for a drink & chat.
Service was lovely & staff very friendly.
The food looks nice but sadly our experience wasn’t great. Went for a Sunday roast & wasn’t impressed. However, seeing the fish & chips……that looked decent.
Pros:
Pork belly was spot on with taste and time cooked.
Gravy was thick enough and nice
Carrot was nice enough & cooked well
Cons:
Cold……only hot thing was the gravy
They Stack the meat on top of the roast potatoes to make it look bigger than is.
Yorkshire pudding was frozen and not homemade……not what I expected.
“Honey glazed parsnips” were tasteless, undercooked.
Potatoes are frozen, stodgy, zero crisp, zero taste and not cooked in “beef dripping” pretty sure I got the same ones from Lidl.
Cauliflower & cheese was again, undercooked, tasteless and lacked cheese (zero seasoning)
Portion of meat was not great until questioned and rectified (appreciated that, thank you)
Cabbage was browning, tasteless
Broccoli (all of two stems) undercooked and tasteless
For £45 for two people, not one first choice for a roast but would enjoy a walk to & pint here with friends.
C. V.
Excellent location and views. The Sunday roast was very good and a very large portion. The staff was very nice too. When it started raining, they immediately came to offer us a table indoors as they saw we had a small baby with us. We will definitely come back soon!
B. M.
First time I had been for a long time due to lockdown, etc. Food and service so much better than it had been for a while. Really good menu selection too.
Definitely recommend it and will be going back again soon.
R. B.
Great food, very comfortable. Good view of the canal nearby. Disabled toilet requires a radar key held at the bar. Service was a tad slow, however it was extremely busy. Thank you
G. R.
We all enjoyed our visit to The Stables, and it was made so much more relaxing by Suzie our waitress.
A member of our party had an allergy and with the professionalism along with great humour, Suzie put us at ease and explained the whole procedure but not in a frightening, overpowering way and with her level of knowledge in relation to allergies it made our visit a special experience.
H. M.
We had a family visit ranging from age 7 to 94!!! Everyone was well catered for and happy with their meals. Gary and Beth were so friendly and attentive and we will certainly be back.
t.
Great canal side location. Real fire and cosy interior
C. E.
Nice warm fire and beautiful Christmas decorations. Very poor choice from festive menu and when we asked for the turkey pie was told they had run out of dish even though it was only 18.30pm . No other Christmas dishes available from menu which was extremely poor. Meals were ok although portions quite small and any extras had to be paid for and quite expensive. Had to ask for bill from two separate servers . The car park was extremely icy and no attempt to put down salt or sand to help patrons walk from car to entrance.
L. C.
Great place for lunch and a drink. The food was tasty and reasonably priced and the staff were really friendly - top service ! The wood fire is a nice touch - it was crackling away making the place feel cosy - definitely worth a visit !
b. b.
First visit and we’ll definitely be back- really nice atmosphere- great brunch menu and a wood fire. Can’t beat that on a Sunday morning! Thank you!
R. M.
A great place for cyclists and dog walkers to go for coffee . In fact a nice place for anyone to go to. It’s a lovely place situated on the canal and just off main road . The stables is dog and cyclist friendly and even has a dog menu and a place for dogs to get a drink. There are parking places for bikes but not many and it could lead to bikes being placed on paths when it is busy and sunny . When it’s sunny it’s always busy and you might struggle to get a seat outside . Well worth a visit if your out on canal and on way to Glasgow . Pity they don’t do biscuits or cake to go with coffee sometimes your lucky when there are cakes but mostly there aren’t . Still a great place to visit old but clean and staff are all very friendly
A. C.
Amazing service as always, the stables is local to us and your are welcomed with smile, we love to bring our dog here too. Great drinks and lovely food.
J. D.
The Stables is a large classic country pub. It has a great location on the canal with outdoor seating. The service was friendly and helpful. The food was upscale pub grub. I had a game pudding that I found OK, but lacking in flavor. There was no marmalade taste in the marmalade jus. Service was a bit slow; waited for about 30+ min for food, and the price is a a wee bit high. A more focused menu with reasonable prices and faster service would make it a five. Overall, I'd come back -- a pleasant stop for a pint and snack.
A. S.
Lovely food in lovely surroundings. And such friendly service.
K. C.
Lovely pub next to a canal beef dinner was gorgeous cold fizzy pint. Really friendly staff felt welcome from start to finish. Even the sun poked its head out
S. M.
Went here for the first time with my partner and father for a birthday lunch and so glad we did. Had the Sunday lunch and quite simply, it was one of the best meals I have had in my fiftysummat years eating my way around this planet. Decent prices, really, REALLY good food, brilliant atmosphere and a cracking location. Really worth a visit
B. D.
Lovely location on the canal. Warm friendly welcome from staff. Our food was piping hot, extremely tasty and nicely presented. We've been a few times and will definitely be back.
C. M.
Food was delicious, service friendly but a bit slow and the restaurant could have done with being a bit warmer, overall a good experience
C. M.
Went for walk along the canal and stopped here for some lunch. Had camembert and chips. They are really dog friendly they made a fuss of our dog and gave her treats. Staff really friendly will definitely be back
J. R.
Met some friends here yesterday and had a lovely lunch. The staff were great and made a fuss of our dog.
I was last here in the mid nineties and it was great to see the place again.
O.
It was very crowded but quick in service, They expect you to order online pay online then wait at your table. 🍟 was small, order two 🤓 …
n. R.
We came for my husband birthday but are frequent customers.
It was short staffed but didn't alter the high quality of food and service. All staff were very friendly and attentive.
We love tge stables
S. W.
We met a group of friends here today so there was 8 in our group. Our food was served at the same time and everyone enjoyed their food. Beer was served nice and cold too. What a great pub and such lovely surroundings. I believe there are boat trips along the canel so worth checking that out if you have time to spare.
D. M.
Everything was good. Made to feel very welcome. Very accommodating
Very friendly. Food was delicious. Excellent service
S. H.
Fabulous. From host to table service the staff were friendly and professional. Top notch food, faultless drinks selection and unbeatable canal-side location. Well worth a detour for.
b. b.
The food was excellent and the service was friendly, even on a busy evening.
S. W.
We really enjoyed our Sunday lunch here last weekend. Had a lovely walk along the canal after, so we could burn off the desert!
m. m.
Lovely place inside and out. Really friendly staff. Dog friendly. Only thing would be improve the menu as limited.
j. m.
We had a fantastic time here, it would have been our Grans 104th birthday but sadly she passed away in May, we had a meal here every year on her birthday so we wanted to keep up tradition and have a wee meal on Birthday to celebrate her life and to our satisfaction it did not let us down, the food, staff and service was spot on so thanks for making it memorable
C. M.
Beautiful setting, right beside the canal. Big seating area with plenty tables outdoors for when the weather is good. Lovely cosy, cottagey, family-friendly, country pub feel inside with open fireplaces. Feels small and intimate but is actually pretty big with lots of tables inside. The menu is good, typical for Vintage Inns, with a few vegetarian and vegan options too.
J. B.
Great quality of food and a very pleasant atmosphere. Staff are very friendly.
C. k.
Delightful meal with a fantastic atmosphere, service was extremely good and the staff are all amazing. Well done all.
R. A.
Great food and service. Nice atmosphere and covid restrictions were pretty good as well.
P. K.
Good Sunday roast , friendly , nice atmosphere, clean tidy good service and ( dogs welcome too ) great range of beers on tap 👍🏻 …
S. N.
I have memories over the years in Stables and all of them are predominant great! I used to come with my Grandpa, I’ve came on dates and most recently I stopped in for a pint with my Mum - this is after 2 years living abroad. Every staff member I’ve encountered is friendly and polite, the decor is lovely and the drinks are reasonably priced (in my opinion). Will definitely visit again soon.
A.
Almost reluctant to give a give review so it doesn't get too busy!
Pub and restaurant with no loud music and excellent service.
Can be used for an evening out in traditional settings and surroundings as a pub or for a meal with friends and family.
In particular the staff are helpful, friendly and efficient.
Highly recommended.
A. H.
Absolutely brilliant Sunday lunch service was excellent can't wait to go back
R. P.
Enjoyed the ever friendly and very efficient staff. Excellent menu choices. But one choice, beef rib, was not enjoyed, Meat was tender and tasty but not much of it and far too much fat
G. W.
Had a decent enough soup. There are not many vegan options. Staff are friendly enough. They toasted the bread which I hate with soup. No idea why someone would do that..it was nice to sit outside and eat in the sun. Service was reasonably fast.
S. F.
Absolutely amazing food top class service and beautiful ambiance x
a. f.
A nice place with pleasant staff but very slow service & food was cold when it arrived.
E. B.
Staff incredibly helpful. Advised to book if sun is out as it can get very busy. Very dog friendly.
J. G.
The first sunny day in Scotland was bound to have some issues, I felt like they were potentially under-staffed. However, everyone was friendly, the sun was shining, and it's a lovely spot.
E. R.
Nice cozy place with a beautiful interior! With delicious food and drinks. We were very satisfied!
j. s.
The Stables is in an excellent location and the staff are pleasant quick and helpful they have a good menu all be it a little expensive compared to other similar establishments in the area, the price of soft drinks and alcohol is rather more expensive when you buy 1 alcohol drink and soft drink for £8.10 but can buy 1 alcohol drink and 2 soft drinks for £6 along the Canal which sadly otherwise spoils a great venue
a. i.
Thanks for a great lunch, even under covid restrictions, the staff and atmosphere was really pleasent. Good was amazing and our dog, Alfie, loved his roast chicken. first time visit but not the last.
E. C.
I have been coming to the Stables for years now and there is no place quite like it. The food is divine and the service impeccable. Whether you like to sit out in the sun, take a walk down the Canal or sit indoors and enjoy the beautifully intimate setting it's a place to be adored by all. And even more so now that I have become a dog owner knowing that my pup is welcome and can enjoy being social too it is just perfect and I would highly recommend it.
J. B.
Stopped for a hot chocolate when out for a walk with sister and her dog
L. B.
It was a lovely day, we had some delicious food and stayed for a few hours for drinks after.
I cant fault the stables
C. H.
Cosy place. I found it to be a little expensive but everyones food did look lovely and plenty of it. Around 13 pounds for fish and chips and it took a long time to wait to pay at the bar although it wasnt really busy. The customers and staff here were very pleasant and we enjoyed meeting tge friendly horses outside
W. S.
Nice food, great & friendly service and the location on the canal bank is ideal for walks (with or without a dog). The menu for dogs is a nice touch too 👏 …
Y. M.
Friendly and helpful staff, nice, clean surroundings and a varied menu.
H. E.
Pleasant visit so lunch. Set menu
Had pizza then coffee with mini pudding which is a great idea. Just enough for a decent lunch. Staff lovely
K. G.
Really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere in The Stables. Food was really nice. Service was excellent. Accommodated for a wide range of food requirements. All staff were just lovely and so helpful. Highly recommend
A. H.
Nice friendly staff, meal was great will be back
B. S.
Great lunch, good prices and wonderful views. It is self service, but that was not an issue for us
R. H. (.
Excellent service and delicious food! Great decor and ambience ... we'll be back!
D.
Amazing choice in menu, Mac n cheese was delightful and iron bru float was divine.
G. L.
Have a lovely lunch with my sister today. Staff friendly and helpful.
J. H.
Was a mix up with the e mail
But the manager went above and beyond to ensure we were seated
Staff were excellent
Food was so tasty
Staff fell over backwards to meet a particular dietary requirement
A wonderful experience
M. T.
Great service, lovely food and drink, fantastic "wee" place.
J. C.
Great meal, kids loved the food and especially the ice cream. Steak was delicious and well cooked. Restaurant had a lovely homely feel, typical of mist Vintage Inns properties like the Tickled Trout, Red Deer and the Snow Goose. Will be back again soon!
R. P.
Lunch last week utilising 50%off food offer - nice menu good food and option of outside seating but as it was a typical Scottish summers day we stayed inside - well worth a visit
C. M.
Food and service great. Coffee not very warm
J. B.
I absolutely adore the stables! Literally my #1 place to go! Went for Father’s Day meal today and it didn’t disappoint. We took our 2 Westies and sat in the garden area. Food was amazing but for me the service is what makes it! Special mention to Sophie who is the nicest person ever and adores dogs. Great place for doggies!
L. 1.
Average pub in all aspects.
Fantastic location and nice cosy interior however that's the only real good part
S. J.
Lovely pub, great food, very pleasant staff, will definitely be returning again soon.
M. S.
Very attentive staff. Food was lovely.. fish and chips... gammon steak.. freshly cooked.
First time there. Will certainly be back.
S. Y.
Food was good, a welcoming place. Service was fast and friendly. Ordered margherita pizza, it was huge. Only thing is that it is difficult to find the turning for the place when it's dark. The entrance from the main road needs to be lit up better.
C. M.
Good friendly pub. Lots of space inside and out. Food was amazing especially the Roast lamb. Plus nice that allows dogs in especially after a walk along the canal. Would recommend. Sarah was a good server
N. H.
Lovely place to eat and dog friendly.
There was a menu for my dog and we ordered her a chicken breast which was big and cooked perfectly 🥰 …
P. H.
Beautiful setting, an excellent pint and delicious food made for a lovely afternoon out by the canal.
Will definitely be back.
B. C.
Lovely day staff so helpfull and pleasant definitely be back👍 …
R. T.
Always a pleasure going here. We had a bowl of chips between us, a fruit scone and a slice of Victoria sponge which has a massive amount of fresh cream. They were all delicious. The staff were very friendly and attentive.
A wee note, the entrance to the Stables for food is to the left for the moment and not through the main shop.
C. L.
What great service from lovely staff. We were at table 1, walk ins on 3rd July 2022 at 2pm-ish. Thanks so much, will be back!
A. H.
Food excellent, staff lovely. Best of all, great dog area inside (as well as many outside tables for when it's dry). Only problem is sometimes a long wait when it's very busy. I don't mind that too much, given the convenience of always having my dog with me, and rarely being pressed for time, but others might. I stress this is normally only at exceptionally busy times - like warm weekends when it seems the entire population of East Dunbartonshire turns up.
D. Q.
Brilliant dog friendly pub, right on the canal. Great food, even has its own dog menu. Followed by a long walk along the canal. Staff were very friendly. I would highly recommend.
D. D.
Got to the Stables Saturday mid-afternoon expecting service to be run off its feet. What I found was a very busy restaurant but the staff were calm and active dealing with all tables effortlessly, needless to say the food was amazing as usual and staff are always amazing, so thanks again Stables, you have won a customer for life, see you soon 😊
S. M.
Visited here yesterday on a whim when passing and was greeted professionally and welcoming from start to finish. The staff were attentive and not too overwhelming. The restaurant was clean an tastefully decorated whilst adhering to the covid rules . The menu was small but perfectly put together. Definitely hats off to the chef especially his fish cakes that were the best I've EVER tasted. Great place and definitely worth a second visit in the future. Highly recommended. Thankyou ALL. X
A. M.
Great Vintage Inns venue. Doggy menu is s nice touch. Pity Vintage Inns don't think about including regional meals along side the regular meals on the menu.
J. C.
Started from here with a trip on the forth canal a lovely day then had a coffee here to finish the Day off. I a beautiful place
j. m.
Great food , friendly staff
G. S.
Great food and atmosphere! Good kids options too.
N. B.
The food was lovely. The service was great, and friendly staff. Enjoyed a lovely evening with friends.
D.
Food was good. Really busy though and the young girls don't clean the tables.
A. B.
My sister and I visited the Stables for lunch yesterday and we had an amazing experience. The surroundings and the quality of good and service were superb, however, this was only the beginning of our positive experience at the Stables. My car broke down and I had to call out an emergency company who took over 3.5 hours to arrive, blaming it on COP 26! The manager Michael and Sarah could not have been more accommodating and helpful. Particular thanks to them both for looking after my sister who is blind while I was on the phone trying to sort out the situation. This was truly a safe haven and port in the storm of yesterday. Thank you so much!
S. A. I.
Beautiful location and extremely friendly service ALSO SO MANY DOGS 💕💕💕 …
C. M.
Lovely food and great portions sizes, well stuffed after our visit. Staff were friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back :)
S. T.
Nice place in a nice location. Friendly staff and great food
A. D.
I usually like this place but the portions were just massive, I ordered fish &chips & couldn't even finish half of it. And there wasn't much of a menu choice, could have done with a light salad or something. Although the pub & surrounding area is lovely.
C. B.
Stopped for a few drinks on a really warm day, had to use the app to order drinks and choice of refreshments were limited. Great effort by all the staff and the fella who was managing had it running like clockwork. What a delightful place to watch the world go by - keep up the fantastic work
P. C.
Visited this restaurant whilst their kitchen was temporarily closed for the night. Sorry nothing to report. Staff friendly and coffee lovely . An idea 💡 maybe Free coffee ☕ and soft drink for the inconvenience caused ......its the small gestures that help make the decision to return to a venue . …
L. N.
The location of this pub is brilliant next to the canal with options of sitting by the canal or in their beautifully decorated pub. Dogs are welcome. Friendly and helpful staff. Food was abit of a let down. The steak was so fatty and undercooked even though I had ordered well done. Other than that I'll be going back and ordering something else.
l. k.
Went in for Lunch today just as they opened. Quite busy but food was out within 15 minutes. Staff were lovely, very helpful and attentive.
G. Q.
The staff are a credit to this company. Very knowledgeable, efficient and friendly
I. C.
Ambiance lovely. Situated on the canal side. We didn't try the food but the but ordering drinks and crisps to our outside table on the app was very easy. Nice place. Good pit stop if walking from cadder wharf.
M. M.
Ate here a few times now.
.Went out for father's day, with family, and yet again, a lovely meal.
Waitress. Sarah, very pleasant, and cheery. Easy to chat and interact with.
I like how you are not rushed, and they allow a bit of time between courses.
Definitely recommend The Stables.
K. P.
The Stables is tastefully decorated and the menu is good standard pub food. It would be great to have a few more options for GF, veg and vegan diners. The staff is well-trained, personable and polite.
c. c.
Great wee pub and restaurant with friendly attentive staff
S. T.
Lovely food, nice peaceful and relaxed atmosphere and staff were amazing! Would highly recommend.
P. D.
First class welcome, made to feel most invited, almost like going to an old pals. Ambience was perfect, my mum enjoyed her the 74th birthday brunch, food was as always excellent, saving room for that all important dessert. So glad to be back and supporting the team here. Don't go changing, I will be back and look forward to doing so. Support Local business and let's get moving forward, always remembering to tip the guys and gals that have been made to suffer through all the restrictions and multiple closures of their trade.
j. s.
We were having a family meal and were very pleasantly surprised to be offered an excellent promotional meal. It was very good value for both the good and drink. We were attended at table by Rachel who went out of her way to make our visit a great success. She was very knowledgeable about the promotion and made the children very welcome. I would give a rating of 10/10 for quality of good and service, ambience and value.
J. K.
Lovely pub on the canal bank.
The garden area could do with a bit of maintenance and some investment but the internals, service and food quality are excellent.
Q. R.
Absolutely fantastic place for a pub lunch, just had to book a table for it reopening. My lovely Mrs and I stop by here for our lunch at least once a month as a little treat to each other. The staff are always very friendly & professional with the food alway tasting great (compliment to the chef). I would strongly recommend this place to both locals & visitors alike with fantastic scenic views right on its door step.
J. A.

Great service and the food is generally really good.
They do a great Sunday lunch.
I did have a stake once which wasn't cooked how I asked, and they made up for it with good service and free desert!
J. H.
Very nice food, staff & ambience
K. M.
Great atmosphere lovely food.
C. D.
First visit here a few weeks ago. Fabulous food and friendly service, the lasagne was one of the best I've had. The desserts were also amazing. Lovely big fire made it easy to want to sit here all afternoon. Will absolutely be back.
c. g.
Amazing food. Staff is friendly and if you are a dog owner, that is the place to go. they have a little dog menu as well
N. M.
Just had coffee but service was good
A. B.
While this place seemed busy outside, we had booked a table and we're able to go inside where it was much quieter.
Despite the booking however there was still a queue at the door which included people who hadn't booked and which didn't comply with social distancing.
Once started we did not feel welcome. We waited a long time to be spoken to and the staff seemed very nervous.
The food was very nice. I had the gammon steak with chips and egg, orange juice and lemonade and the crumble.
Each was nice.
I would recommend this place with a booking.
C. M.
Love this place! Cozy, clean and tasteful decor. We enjoyed a late Sunday afternoon lunch here. The food was good, with great sized portions and friendly service. I loved seeing all the wee dogs in the restaurant too. There are a few horses in the field next to the restaurant which was nice to see if you’re an animal lover.
L. B.
Lovely bar and setting, friendly and helpful staff. Food is good.
C. F.
Great food very reasonable prices
G. R.
First time here for a very belated 70th Birthday treat. Beautiful food, lovely staff. Hopefully be back soon.
G. P.
Had a lovely lunch here. Food was great and a relaxing atmosphere.
D. E.
Good food if a little pricey, lovely location and service was great. I would recommend for a nice afternoon.
G. M.
Nice location, good food, however 4 cokes costing over10 for small bottles spoilt my meal, had these been cans of coke it might mot have bothered me as much £2.40 for a small bottle is way ott imho
J. A.
Great place. Clean and tidy. Follows covid rules well. Great service. Great banter. Great food. Cant tell you how good the place is. Been before and will be going back again.
J. M.
Great place! We went mid week and sat outside and had lunch. You had to order via the app but it was simple enough to do. Food was delicious! Highly recommended!
L. M.
I am part of the table booked under Russell on 26/07/2020. Had a lovely afternoon lunch/dinner. The restaurant is clearly adhering to social distancing guidelines and gave clear instructions to us on arrival. Meal was lovely, we all enjoyed our food (table of 7) the lady serving our table was lovely, the staff are busier than they anticipated but nothing was a problem. Tbh I hadn't been in The stables for many years but will definitely return after today. Well done x
T. R.
1st visit on visit from England
Lunch was amazing and excellent service.
Where our table was situated were a little cold.
But overall experience excellent.
G. F.
Great experience. Visited and booked via the app for 6.30. (phone option 1- less than 6, is exactly the same). Arrived at 6.15 and it was ok to come into the table. Was told option 2 allows you to speak to the staff so can also book that way too if times are too soon for the app. Result!
Staff are friendly and helpful all the way through the meal.
Meal was delicious, vegetarian burger was great as was the fish and chips. Children devoured the kids meals. Desserts were really tasty.
COVID restriction level 2: COVID system (from arrival, ordering and movement inside) is well set out and is as solid as October last year. Easy to follow and staff helpful to gently remind patrons as required ( wasn't needed much - folks very considerate).
E. W.
Great place at the canal path in a lovely location. I usually cycle past it and I finally managed to arrange a coffee with a friend there. We were served by a helpful (and hilarious!) waiter and the food was good. Will definitely go back at some point.
J. E.
Lovely location, generous portion sizes and great service. We were a party of 7, with 2 dogs and staff were very attentive. Will be back!
J. S.
Love the location, service was great, food was delicious.
Not sure why for a cask beer / beer bar none of the casks were available?
M. G.
Very welcoming took our Westie with us food was excellent brought bowl of water and biscuits for our westie in fact the staff couldnt have been nicer we'll be back
L. Y.
In a lovely setting by the canal, only had a drink there, but the food looked delicious. Seating outside available
D. L.
Late evening visit so it was very quiet sitting outside. You need to order on the app when outside but the staff were happy to help iron out any issues with the ordering. Always a lovely place to visit.
J. M.
A very unexpected and delightful place. I had no idea from my arrival through winding farmlands that at the rear was a lovely garden area and canal view. The food was excellent and the service warm and inviting. My new to go place and to top it all off it is dog friendly.😍 …
I. K.
A firm favourite. Always a warm welcome, great service and tasty food. Good value for money too. Lots of choice for all the family. Dogs welcome too.
C. M.
Beautiful setting and rustic decor which compliments this lovely restaurant. Staff are very pleasant and polite. Sadly the lunch was disappointing. I ordered the ham and cheddar toasted sandwich and triple baked chips. After removing all the fat from the ham there was very little left. The bread was very dry and the chips were not too my liking. However I spotted the waitresses serving hot meals which looked delicious. I will return and perhaps order something different. Beautiful welcoming restaurant though.
D. B.
Back again, same as last time, highly recommended.
Great meal in fantastic surroundings.
Service also top notch
M. F.
Very pleasant restaurant and bar close to the canal. It was a busy Saturday but the atmosphere was great and the staff were incredible and very helpful. I would recommend booking a table as it filled up very quickly
The food was excellent and not too expensive, our group all thoroughly enjoyed it.
(I hope I get her name right) Rachel was fantastic and made us feel very welcome despite having a lot of customers. She even sang happy birthday to another table, was great with the kids (replacing an icecream that had sauce added accidentally - making for a very happy wee girl) and was just a genuinely great server.
D. M.
I would give this place 2.5 stars if I could, it’s very middle of the road. Not bad, not good. However, I rounded up as 2 felt a little harsh. I would probably go again for a drink and a snack. In the summer the out door area would be good.
Having said that, the service was slow but the staff were pleasant. The food was mediocre and generally sounded better than it turned out - maybe trying to be too fancy? The pizza wasn’t great, I wouldn’t have that again.
It’s part of a chain, and I guess that feels very obvious.
H. K.
Came here for my mum and dads 50th wedding anniversary and we were given a separate room and the staff were so helpful and friendly. Food was great, service was exemplary and we’ve been back since.
A great place to stop if you walk along the canal for a fuel stop and there’s even an area where you can take your dog! Fab olace
A. K. (. G.
Definitely place to visit, nice little pub away from Glasgow. Not too crowded with very attentive service always to help and come out with solution if faced with supply issue due to Covid. Definitely book and enjoy your stay. Its close to a canal aswell if you wish to sit outside
B. C.
A great place to go. Still functioning despite Covid and able to offer table service. No dog station any more, but dogs are still welcome and they have their doggy menu available.
A great evening, and a special thanks to Sarah and Sophie for making our evening comfortable.
P. M.
Great place to walk along the canal on a lovely day and get something for lunch and a nice cold drink of juice, also serves alcohol.
C. G.
Food great, love the place. Took over 20 minutes to get our drink order taken, eventually had to go to the bar to get someone to come over, disappointing
P. S.
Nicely laid out for social distancing without feeling forced. The setting on the canal is pleasant. The menu is good with fairly wide choice and the service is effective and competent and friendly. A nice place for an enjoyable meal.
M. C.
First visit and won't be our last. Lovely setting, sat outside and watched all the comings, and goings on the canal. Quick and friendly service, food excellent.
K. C.
Love the Stables, I take my dad on a Friday for lunch, the girls are all fantastic with him ! He has cognitive impairment and can some times be a bit vocal.
He always enjoys his lunch and the kitchen never has a problem providing him with seasonal veg.
My Grandson Rory loves Suzanne, or Soosoo...
Suzanne is amazing !
The protocol in place atm due to covid is spot on, we feel very safe when we visit, staff have taken every step very seriously, very much appreciated! Thankyou
s. n.
Rustic surroundings for eating set high in the Peak district with awesome views over Monsal dale and surrounding area. There is indoor seating in the converted stalls with roaring log fires when the weather requires. There is outdoor seating to allows the smokers to dine and all areas are dog and walker welcome.
The food is to a very high standard and there is a wide variety catering to all tastes.
The polite and efficient staff are welcoming and helpful.
N. N.
Indoor and outdoor seating, weather permitting, booking not always necessary. Good food, very helpful staff, reasonably priced for area. Recommended.
w. f.
Great location. Attentive staff. Well laid out for covid restrictions
L. D. (. D.
Pork belly was delish. Our waitress was fab. Very welcoming and great with my little toddler too.
W. P.
Nice place with nice beers. Great beer garden too. Can't wait until the warmer weather to get a few pints in.
M. M.
Great wee stop off on the cycle route. Very cosy for such a large place. The food is often very good but sometimes disappointing. The steak pie looks huge but has hardly any meat in it and tastes bland. The sharing platters are excellent. Great range of beers. Also good for wine and gin lovers.
C. B.
Yet again another fabulous meal in warm and comfortable surroundings also friendly staff. However on this occasion the cleanliness of the toilets was not up to standard. Will definitely return because it is worth the visit but need to address broken toilet seat, blocked sink and empty soap and toilet roll dispensers.
A. T.
Warm friendly atmosphere and great food.
A. D.
It is a nice location for a quiet meal for two. There are real fires and good service
K. R.
We enjoyed a lovely meal here last weekend. My husband had the lamb shank and said it was delicious. The waitress, Rachel, couldn't have been more helpful. Will definitely be back.
W. S.
Good food, friendly service.
J.
One of the best authentic pubs I have found in Scotland. After moving from Kent in early 2000s its a home from home.
M. R.
Very glad to say it has much improved. I have allwats enjoyed the site but had felt it had gone down in standard tonight was the first time back for a meal for ages.
It has been re decorated very tastefully choice of menu was good and service excellent. Very dog friendly for well behaved dogs and the three dogs there tonight were very well behaved. Look forward to my next visit
H. B.
We sat outside for dinner and drinks. The staff were so helpful and friendly and there was a lovely atmosphere. Would recommend. 😁 …
F. J.
Had a great lunch here today. Food was lovely & staff really friendly & helpful. Will definitely visit again!
S. N.
Bit busy, good for people with dogs as there is big walk at the rear and garden area with lots of benches. Alcohol collection is fine, had few pints of beer they were ok and regular ones with one or two rare ales. Food quality is good. Only suggestion is to increase the staff.
J. W.
Went a week ago, had a lovely birthday meal for four, sat just away from the log fire.My wife and I had steak's,the others had chosen and fish and chicken, all the food was lovely and tasty cooked to prefection.
All made very welcome by the waitress Mandy, we had not been to this venue for a a number of years as we moved to another area, but certainly will return in the near future, well worth the visit.
L. R.
Great food but due to advise given during the festive season from the government was really quite but I will definitely return
S. E.
Really lovely country pub by the canal. Food great, service great. Can't wait to go back!!
l. a.
I love this place. It's very welcoming - cosy and relaxed atmosphere. We have had a family Xmas meal there for over 15 people, for the past 2 years and it's been great. The staff couldn't be more helpful and obliging and the food is lovely. All in all, a very good experience. I would thoroughly recommend it.
J. C.
Very friendly staff. The menu and food is what you would expect from a chain pub/restaurant. I had Hunter's Chicken which was meh, but my wife enjoyed her burger. Would be interested to try their Sunday roast.
J. D. L.
We had a table booked on a sunny Good Friday. Unfortunately no staff greeted us on arrival. When I eventually found someone we were shown to a table which was reserved but not laid. After we had sat down we were told there would be an hour wait for our food. The food arrived 1hr 15mins later, but was worth the wait. Card payments have to be made at the bar and had another 15 mins wait to get through the queue of people waiting to pay. It was a good job we weren't in a hurry! The food was good but service was really slow. They should have had more staff on, knowing it was going to be good weather.
G. C.
Lovely location beside the Forth & Clyde canal, an olde worlde restaurant with a number of rooms, log fires and beams. It prepares and serves excellent traditional food with some interestingly different twists. Good views of the Campsie hills and great walking all around. Very friendly and helpful staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday lunch!
M. J.
Decent pub food and drink in a pleasant, clean and friendly place. Sunday lunch was well presented and decent for the price point if not piping hot. A few more staff needed though. Team were overwhelmed.
R. M.
Very rustic atmosphere and great food. Amanda's service was excellent.
K. S.
Great food. Made to feel welcomed by staff and just a wonderful place to eat.
A. K.
Nice for a drink outside but pretty expensive for what is just really just ' pub grub'.
H. M.
My friends and i visited on Sunday!! Service was amazing from minute we walked in. All staff were welcoming and friendly! Impeccable! Serving staff were soo lovely and accomodating even to our 4 furry friends!! Food was delicious!! Will defos be back asap!!
T. S.
Lovely atmosphere and food to match.
Polite staff, the lunch/dinner menus have a good selection of choices depending on the time of day.
Easily accessed by bike or car along the canal or from the main road.
Gets quite busy as the night goes on, but during weeknights its usually alright.
A. M.
Limited menu but very tasty friendly and helpful staff. Good safe distancing and the staff were always cleaning as soon as the table was vacated. You can eat here and feel safe.
L. R.
Nice friendly atmosphere, pleasant staff. Dropped in for coffee after walking dogs at the canal. Dog friendly outdoors and restricted indoor area. Should be a notice for dog owners to keep their dogs on the lead, although should be obvious, as two dogs roaming around, friendly enough, but sniffing constantly at our dogs and making them unsettled.
s. k.
Went in with my pregnant dog. Sat by the fire and enjoyed a nice bar meal.
Bella went into the first stages of labour that night
Unfortunately she had primary inertia and gave birth by an almost emergency c section on Friday morning
Both her the 4 boys and one girl are doing well
D. C.
Was cycling by on my way back from Falkirk wheel with my brother and we popped in for a quick pint. I worked in there in the early eighties as an apprentice painter when it was getting refurbished but it is completely different now to the way I remember back then. It looks lovely and I would go there for a meal if I was ever in the area.
P. M.
Fantastic place for a nice bar lunch, especially on nice sunny day out in the garden 👌🏻 …
J. M.
Food was ok however ordered a steak and it was so fatty it couldnt even be eaten, even the waitress commented
B. F.
Love it here for Sunday lunch
G. C.
Nice place, decent food but poor service.
The drinks didn't come until we asked for them when our first courses were served, and we had to go looking for someone to pay the bill. Hopefully just an off day, but I will try again if in the area.
e. m.
Had lovely Sunday evening meal in bar area with dog in attendance. Food was great and staff friendly and efficient.
J. M.
Found this place by chance. Excellent pub food, friendly staff, comfortable restaurant...and dog friendly too. I'll be back soon
j. b.
First visit will certainly return felt very safe all covid restrictions in place although place was busy there was plenty staff so did not wait long for orders to be taken food was excellent good portions and staff were very friendly also reasonable prices
M. V.
Food was really good but a wee bit expensive for starters and desserts. Only problem was it was pitch dark (no lighting) when we came out to walk to the carpark.
B. A.
Great place after a walk or cycle. For a drink, or something to eat, and staff are friendly and welcoming.
S. T.
Great service, warm and attentive. Lovely building and cosy atmosphere, with a roaring log fire. The food was of excellent quality and the wait wasn't too long. Only negative would be the lack of lighting at night around the building, particularly on the approach road.
T. J.
My daughter had communion there & 26 years later it is still a great spot.
S. L.
Lovely lunch. Good tasty and good value for money. Waitress Sarah was excellent and helpful .
M. L.
Lovely meal & excellent service from Kayleigh who, despite an extremely busy period, remained pleasant & helpful.
Covid precautions were very strictly adhered to & well explained on arrival.
Will definitely be back. Thank you
Y. D.
Came in for a few drinks with friends on boxing day and staff were amazing. Great atmosphere and fab service. Thanks to Cara, Sarah , Susie and Sophie for their great service 😊 …
p. r.
This is the 1st time I've visited the Stables. Really good food, friendly and helpful staff. A very quick and efficient service. I'll definitely visit again.
Thank you.
S. M.
Discovered this pub quite by chance but what a find. Situated on the banks of the Canals beautiful setting. Food excellent with a very upmarket menu. Not your usual pub fare. Slightly more pricey than usual for pub grub but worth the money.
T. W.
Great location next to the canal. Lovely old pub with wood fire, great food, good bar, and great prices. Has beer garden too. Friendly service. Great for Sunday roast. A rare find.
I. G.
Nice food but it's a dog "friendly" pub and the serving staff were being rather too friendly with the dogs. Not always certain hands got washed afterwards. Shan't be going again. A pity.
J. M.
Always enjoy lunches at the Stables. The staff are great. The meals never disappoint.
M. N.
Lovely to sit outside on a sunny day. Excellent food, quick service. A good place to stop if you are cycling or for a family meal. Suitable for a drink with friends as well. Dog friendly.
M. S.
Lovely day, staff working hard to stick to the covid restrictions, all staff welcoming and inviting. Great food for everyone and the service was excellent.
P. S.
Super friendly and welcoming.
Great food and fast interested staff.
I am looking forward to returning to this gem.
I. W.
Great food and fabulous food.
L.
Food and service usually good but can vary. But do check your receipt for charges as have been over charged a couple of times. Sure it was a mistake. Lovely surroundings which give the places a great feel.
M. A. (.
The food here is absolutely amazing, only surpassed in quality by the staff who managed, despite clearly being busy and having disasters to deal with, to be above and beyond friendly and professional. Cannot recommend highly enough!
A. S.
Service excellent. Very nice meal. Lovely old stone building on canal bank.
m. k.
Had a great meal this lunch time. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Top marks
L. B.
Had lunch yesterday was quite nice but spoiled slightly by the attitude of the member of staff serving the drinks.
I asked for two drinks but didn't hear the barmaid say i will bring them over so stood for a wee while to be told by a cheeky attitude i told you i woukd bring the drinks ovrr. So this spoiled our visit slightly.
N. W. C.
Nice place for food and drink. Our service was dreadfully slow. Had to go back up to the bar twice to remind them. They forgot our order and then brought the wrong order to our table. They were quite busy so maybe just a one-off. Would try again to see.
D. M.
Very nice for food and drinks staff helpful you can eat outside if you like and order from app track and trace in operation, food was very nice would recommend for famly and friends price was good
G. W.
Great location. Warm fire. Good food. Marked it down as the service is variable. Sometimes staff aren't best trained or most efficient. Most are very friendly though.
A. B.
Staff good and food tast
A. K. J.
We made a reservation for a small lunch. Both meals were ok apart from the chips not being hot enough. Good range of drinks (alcohol and non) along with the usual hot drinks. Free car park and O2 WIFI. Outdoor seating on the banks of the Forth & Clyde can and, infrequently, barges pass by.
p. p.
Always great good friendly staff always made feel welcome 10 out of 10 every time will be back
G. H.
Lovely & cosy with 3 log fires (fabulous especially as my boiler has broken!), friendly staff, love that it's so dog friendly, had hot drinks, then lunch followed by more hot drinks & a mini pudding each! Lovely chilled place for a catch up 😊 …
K. B.
Food was lovely, staff were very friendly
M. W.
Lovely experience. I had played in an International tennis tournament at Scotstoun and needed to relax. I asked if it was OK for my cross Greyhound to come in the bar with me on her beanbag. The Staff were all outstanding,so friendly, nothing too much trouble. The building has real character and is partly candle lit. The cask bitter was excellent . i ill definitely visit every time I play the ITF tennis tournament. If my dog Mia is with me she will come too.Thank You, Michael
C. J.
Been here a few times now, and the service has always been amazing! Mandy (I think her name is) and Briony were extremely helpful in finding me and letting me borrow a phone charger. I'd hired a bike, and the pin code to unlock it was on my phone which had died. If it wasn't for their help I would have struggled to get the bike back to Glasgow. Thanks again!
C. M.
Staff were rude and took ages for us to get seated. Food was OK if not a bit greasy!
G. O.
This is a lovely place. The shell of the old stable building on the Forth and Clyde Canal between Kirkintilloch and Bishopbriggs has been sympathetically treated to create a good combination of lush comfort with nods towards the rustic. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and the staff are very attentive. The food is good and there is a fair selection of drinks. Nice to see that it is dog friendly too. Probably a good business decision as it's location on the canal walkway will attract many folk out for a pleasant stroll. Certainly a huge change from the days when it was a crowded pub back in the eighties...
L. D.
Very good for bike trip, nice garden *****
R. H.
Decent pub at the side of canal. Busy on hot days. Food is pub grub better than average. Service varies quite a bit depending on staff levels, they don't always seem to have enough.
V. P.
Had a lovely lunch here. Staff were very welcoming especially towards the dog tbat we took in with us. Water, treats and blankets provided for him
Y.
We love going a walk along the canal to The Stables for food and or drinks. The thing that always spoils it is the bar service. Even today.... Easter Sunday and sunny, lots of people out for walk, lunch and drinks and only one person serving at the bar. We queued for at least 15mins and there were only 5 people in front of us. On past experience we ordered a bottle of wine when eventually served so we didn't need to go up again. Whilst sitting outside we witnessed a few large parties come , go in and see the size or the queue and leave without ordering anything. Poor management in anticipating staffing levels yet again.
E. H.
Main course was great but everything else was very slow. Guy said the kitchen would be ok stay open for a dessert (at 9.30pm on a friday night). Asked for 1 drink 3 times before getting it. Extremely quitet for a friday night
L. D.
Two out of three meals were okay. Third meal, lamb shank, was disappointng and cold. Strangely, two puddings apple crumble and custard were piping hot. But the sticky toffee pud was barely warm. Service OK.
m. g.
Great pub. Allows dogs to bar area and is great to sit in after a walk down the canal. Vegetarian options a bit slim and food a bit basic but great for a meetup place and catch up.
B.
Really cosy vibe and the staff are super friendly. The room with the fireplace is so nice to sit in. Food is tasty too!
H. N.
Great walk and back to the Stables along the canal banking. Although closed we were among a good few people who were on the path to the Stables. Good old habits never die I guess👍 …
L. A. W.
Love rhe stables. So cosy and friendly and always a warm welcome for us and our dogs. Staff are fab.
M. P.
Great place to go if you want to grab some food and a drink with your pooch.
Y. G.
Best Sunday dinner I've had and super dog friendly! Thank you.
J. M.
Love it setting and food. Don't know if they were let down for staff but very busy Easter Sunday and had to queue for ten mins to order food and drink. That apart. Excellent
S. D.
the staff are great are cater to my kids who have a milk allergy so nice, and the food is amazing. love their puddings. x
B. W.
Regretfully I have been three times first was great. The second was poor in terms of service and standard of food. Came third time as I felt the poor experience on previous occasion may have been an off day. Unfortunately the meal was rotten won't be back.
A. L.
Super welcoming, in a great location and I really appreciated the sunshine they laid on especially for our lunch outside!
D. M.
Ok but food was hot and cold, pie hot veg cold cheap and cheerful but cant see me visiting often. To be fair the service was excellent with lovely attentive staff. Just a shame the grub was a bit off.
D. L.
Love this place for its location (and style) as a perfect pitstop for a stroll/run/cycle along the canal! However, the wait time for food, quality of the food and the usability of the toilets can be a massive hit or miss.
J. M.
Good food. Great service
A. H.
Great food, nice staff, nice ambience
M. A.
Shhhh , best kept secret in the area . Nice food , nice staff and a section where dogs are welcome after a leisurely stroll along the canal path .
A. M.
It's well located on the canal and a nice walk but the food is hit or miss. My wife and I had, at best, a mediocre sandwich and cod finger sandwich but my brother and wife enjoyed their burgers....
L. M.
Fantastic Christmas meal and we were well looked after by Ryan. We were able to bring the dog and he enjoyed his turkey too! Thank you!
K. R.
Nice pub next to the Forth & Clyde canal. It is cosy and vibrant with a couple of fire places for the cold days and a garden for the warmer ones. Food is good and generous for relatively low prices.
T. M.
Was amazing
Good food 🥳 …
C. M.
Staff are very attentive and are making the best of a bad lockdown situation, the covid measures are more than adequate and we felt safe while theyre, the food was outstanding and usually for me a had the alcohol free cider which was that good I couldn't taste the difference, only two downsides I could think of was the long walk to the toilets but it is a very old building so not much can be done about it, also the one way system for the covid restrictions brings you out on opposite side of the building and if its dark its a little confusing which way back to the carpark, will be back as soon as they re-open
f. w.
Great first visit with puppy thanks to Sara and Sophie on Sunday. Hope to now make visits with Indy a regular event.
L. P.
The stables is in a lovely location right on the canal which makes it ideal for a wee break as you are out for a walk or cycle. It has plenty of seating options. You can sit outside under heaters (although this is really busy in the summer) and there is a variety of different spaces inside. Lots of nice food and drink options too.
S. K.
Excellent service and food! Stuart had wonderful knowledge around the local area. We have seen much improvement over the past couple of months, keep up the great work!
t. r.
Service was good, make sure you have downloaded the app when visiting. The only way you can order. Food okay
G. P.
Just finished a lovely meal at the Stables, been in for food several times over the years, the food is always great and the prices are reasonable. The service is top notch, friendly, attentive and incredibly helpful.
J. Y.
Really nice day and we all could eat inside. The meal was lovely also the staff.
E. J.
Staff were very friendly. I got the house burger. OMG this was enormous. Beautiful and enjoyed every bit
R. B.
This great Gastro pub is in the banks of the Forth and Clyde Canal.
The food is good and reasonably priced, there is a selection of beers and wines. The staff are friendly. What's not to like?

J. B.
Amazing service and yummy food. The customer service is outstanding. They were so welcoming to our puppy as well. Highly recommend!
C. M.
Excellent country pub with good value food and a friendly team
l. k.
Food really nice and staff lovely but dogs allowed in bar which is fine if owners sitting next to me didn't allow thier medium sized dog to walk about on the lovely couches till it settled down on a seat
M.
You don't need a horse to visit The Stables! Get on yer bike, join the canal at Murano Street and enjoy the most beautiful (and flat) cycle along to a well-earned pint in their beer garden. I highly recommend the Sunday Roasts, but you might not enjoy the ride home as much!!
E.
In my opinion.... A great place to visit... Always welcoming... Staff first class. Food good... And a gorgeous wood burning fire. What's not to like..
d. a. m.
20hr sitting for mothers day meal.
Quite a few things had run out in the kitchen.
Hayho staff we're friendly food was OK
Still no stake pie on the menu 😕 …

Love this place. Super Dog friendly.
G. M.
Reasonable food but very slow service. Had to go up to the bar to ask for drinks for the table and to order desserts and that was on a quiet night.
R. M.
Food good, starter of lamb koftas was yum but sandwiches were slightly toasted so made them dry, could do with a wee bit of salad with a dressing
S. D.
Very good food. Large portion though. Felt safe spacing between tables.
B. M. M. D.

Not quite impromptu lunch ...but we'll chosen as food still as good as previous and with cask beer just perfect for that midweek afternoon treat

👍 …
J. G.
Great food and great service. Would definitely recommend.
B.
Good food, lovely place apart from the really busy main road right outside it, and the bench tables in the outside dining area really need some major tlc or replaced. And the outside tables need to be cleared and cleaned better.
M. W.
Weekend in kirkintilock to visit friends.
We arrived slightly late but still got such a lovley welcome .the staff couldnt do enough for us .food was exceptional and so was the log fire .great pub, lovley location and well worth a visit
J. R.
A nice place for both food and drinks indoors or out. Particularly nice beer garden.
G. J.
Excellent service, great choice of meals, and friendly efficient service. Very welcoming and comfortable eatery, highly recommended.
T. C.
Bland standard fare pub food. More expensive than it should be. Nothing special. Dated pub interior. On a sunny day nice location by canal but not much else to reccomening it.
A. G.
Love it ...Simply said ! 🙌😍 …
R. K.
Really good customer service and simple but tasty lunch menu.
G. P.
A beautiful country pub on a famous walking path and canal journey. Inside it didn't disappoint with a roaring log fire and warm hospitality.

Right by the water, busy but understaffed and also staff not really having a clue, food going to wrong tables glasses everywhere and not being collected when returning to the bar meaning having to wait a long time in the Q to get served by one person looking for fresh glasses.
