A. M.We were the only customers, seeking food before a trip to the theatre. The chilli containing meals all included sweet peppers, which I cannot eat, so I opted for a cheeseburger. It was nicely cooked and very tasty. The rest of the party enjoyed their chilli based meals as well. The staff were friendly and very helpful, and the pub was clean and comfortable. I heartily recommend a visit.

The nicest landlord I've ever met, a great selection of local ales, and delicious unpretentious homecooked food (cannot recommend the "legendary" beer, beef and bacon chili enough)!

M. i. a. C.I visited on a quiet Wednesday night, which is normal for Hull I'm told and was reflected in virtually all pubs in the area that night. However, the place was clean and had a nice pub atmosphere. Good selection of ales on, tried 3 I'd never heard of and they were great.
The real star is the food. The landlord is called Ian and creates his own curry and chilli sauces. I had the beef, beer and bacon chilli which was rated as 2/5 on the heat scale. It was really really good! The food was piping hot and full of flavour. Beef cooking always exquisite and the bowl size was hearty.
A word of caution: I like chilli and this was on the spicy end, so be careful if you choose a dish rated 4 or 5. You've been warned!

J. l.Love this place. Not yet had food but it looks and smells amazing. The owners Paul and Ian are so welcoming, as is Kelly the manager. Although I’m not an ale drinker, they have plenty of choices of drinks. Small in size but huge in heart and atmosphere. It feels more like home than a pub. Definitely try it....you won’t be disappointed.

J. B. R.First time we've been here since it re-opened about a month ago. The 3 of us had brilliant food and large potions as well. Mine was a large Yorkshire pudding with a meat pie and mash in it. Plus 3 different vegetables. It was excellent and filling. My Mother had a small turkey roast which was still too much for her, and my wife had a small Gluten Free roast beef which she enjoyed as well. Allen the landlord was very pleasant and helpful. I would recommend the pub to anybody wanting some lovely food. Also there was a good selection of beers and drinks available.

I was recommended by Tony from the Hop & Vine and a good recommendation it was. 8 cask taps available. 5 on at the moment but the host (Jamie) is dedicated to the ale cause and will get more on soon. The beers are very well kept with a wide range of styles. This place is going to be a major destination for ale lovers and they are doing food from mid November. As it is new, everything is spotless and feels very welcoming. Going to look forward to coming back in, in 4 weeks time.

C. C.I'm just back from a few days in 'ull and stayed in the hotel right next to this place. I actually went in on the first night of opening since it was taken over as I fancied a quick pint and it was literally spitting distance from my hotel room. I was made to feel so welcome by Colin & Sarah and it was refreshing to meet publicans that know how to run a pub. The place is spotless and has all the qualities that a good pub should have, Inviting, cosy, friendly decent beer and hosts that actually care and show a genuine interest in their customers. These qualities can't be faked, especially to someone like myself who has spent much time in the local. I always think that the yardstick for any pub is the standards of the toilets and theirs are spotless. My time in 'ull was made all the better for meeting these two and spending some time here and I will certainly be back to see them both sometime in the future when they will also be serving food and if it's anything like the rest of the place then it will be excellent.
