P. D.A very friendly local pub, very close to the Hull New Theatre. A short walk from the city centre. Great friendly staff and a regular local crowd. Usually several hand pull ales and 3 choices of lager. Highly recommended.

P. W.I remember this pub from 1980 and 1983, when I was doing my 2nd Mate (FG) and 1st Mate (FG) tickets at Hull Nautical College, which used to be on George Street. Great beers and a neat old-fashioned local pub.

J. K.Celebrating a wedding here was lovely. The food and service were extremely good and the pub itself has always had character.
The lack of much outside space next to the pub meant the kids had to take advantage of the History Centre to be able to play. It also didn’t help that a car was parked there too.
This aside, Old English Gentlemen is a great place to hold an event.
I. H.This is a fantastic Pub. Great atmosphere and near Hull New Theatre, so a great place to have your evening meal before going to Theatre and after to share a bottle of wine or beer with feiwnds/ family. I've been visiting this great pub for years going back to the 70's. Can't beat it.

H. B. &. K. S.Having missed my boat to Amsterdam I was left stranded in Hull for the evening. Stumbled across this establishment by pure chance. Great service, amazing decor inside and really friendly landlord who was happy to offer me an overnight stay until I could set sail again the next day. A real gem of a place!
A. -.It doesn't have TVs so it's not rowdy, staff are friendly and it's just a nice place to be in general :)

A. W.A fantastic quirky little pub. Reminds me of home. Only thing missing is an open fireplace. Awesome staff. Very friendly and chatty. Great choice of drinks all round. Don't even get me started on the food...... again AMAZING.
The pub is out of the way of busy streets and the hassle and bussle of the the high streets, which is only a ten minute walk away if your interested.
I've not stayed in the rooms just yet but I'll update as I go along. I'm sure they will meet my requirements.

E. C.Myself & my husband attended a wedding in Hull earlier this year. We stayed at the Theatre Hotel & had dinner at the Old English Gentleman pub just five minutes walk away.
It was a true northern experience! The pub itself was both quirky & comfortable, the food was wholesome, staff were accommodating & friendly & punters were friendly & chatty.
Altogether a pleasant experience! And in case the landlord can't remember us, he told me to sign myself in as The Posh Lady! Haha! Hi! Thanks for a lovely evening!

A. M.A traditional pub with great decor and a nice atmosphere, throw in some great food, and friendly staff. We picked the pub because it was listed as dog friendly. They welcomed the dog and even brought food over for her. Would definitely recommend visiting.

R. H.The atmosphere was lovely the staff was amazing and the food was unbelievable we highly recommend this place so much. We went for a family Christmas lunch it was superb just like the table on christmas day and the food was so nice and a lot of it we couldn't finish it all the kids portions were as big as the adults and the staff couldn't do enough for us
j. l.Michael and the OEG hosted a wake for us yesterday. Staff helpful without being intrusive. Lovely fresh buffet, including home made vol-au-vents as a special request. Constantly topping up the sandwiches, lovely home made Victoria Sponge Cake and free flowing tea and coffee. Couldn’t have gone anywhere better for this emotional occasion.
F. D. S.In the pub right now, with my wife and dog. Wonderful place. Wife had lasagne, and I had the sweet potato and butternut squash soup which came with warm bread and butter. Both tasted home made. Marstons and Jennings ales at the bar. Shame we are only here for 1 night. Landlord and landlady are both friendly and helpful. If we are ever come back to Hull, we will definitely return.
