Reviews of Toby Carvery Horsforth

Good pub, good food. It's your standard Toby Carvery, and has been consistently good for the past few years.
Booking on a Sunday is a must, but mid week you can turn up and get a table.
There's a decent amount of parking for a standard day, but maybe not a Sunday lunch time.

Food was delicious just some vegetables was hard especially the cauliflower cheese. They had no veg fingers for 2 of my kids so they ended up with just a meat free carvery. The lady that served us was very rushy and didn't speak overly nice to us however we heard her serve a different family which was treat different to us.

The young man who was carving was very entertaining - asking everyone to guess the weight of the new Turkey Breast - he had everyone chatting and guessing whilst they waited which I thought was fun at what was a busy time. On the minus side there needed to be more help keeping the veg topped up and looking fresh. More than one of the tureens were empty, dry or close to being empty.

I had a carvery and although the meat was excellent (I had a bit of everything) I was disappointed with the Yorkshire pudding - it was very hard, rather than crispy, and even after being soaked in gravy it was impossible to cut. I know that they are put out and kept warm under the lights but isn't there a time limit as to how long they can be left out? This felt like it had been there for more than an hour! I was also disappointed in the poor selection of vegetables on the day.

Kath was our lovely waitress, she was very friendly and welcoming. She took us straight to a table and asked if we’d like to have drinks with our meal. The food, as always was tasty and hot.
We had visited your Chapel Allerton pub recently and can honestly say the food, staff and atmosphere doesn’t have a scratch on Horsforth. Well done everyone you’re the best!

The service was fantastic; Kathleen and another waitress were so attentive and friendly. The chefs serving the food were very accommodating and happy. Lots of joy in this establishment by the staff spreading harmony and goodwill to all!!

We have visited several Toby’s over the years , but this was the 1st time to Horsforth - we were very impressed! Food as usual was great, but the staff was exceptional. They made us feel so welcome. Will definitely go back .

On this occasion there was no vegetarian pie available (which the server checked and verified at the start) - he did come back with the options they did have, which was nice; alternatively he suggested a vegetarian carvery. After asking what this was we were told that it consisted of just the vegetable options (i.e. a plate of various veg and veg sides) - this was nice and my wife enjoyed it very much.
The issue was the price (which we only really checked when the bill came) - I had a meat option (which was VERY generous) and paid £11.99 which I thought great value for money, the vegetarian carvery was billed at £10.49 which meant that the meat I was given was effectively only £1.50 more than the vegetables we both had. This price differential seems inconsistent given the quantity and cost of the meat (which I assume is a sizable part of the cost of the meal). It would seem fairer to charge a lower amount for the vegetarian carvery (what amounted to a plate of very nice vegetables). I would suggest £8.99
I would point out that this did not spoil a very enjoyable meal - it just seems odd that the veggie option is nearly the same cost as the same option plus meat.
I would like to say that the staff were all very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the products. I would not let this stop me from coming again.
