A great choice for some quality sushi in Leicester. Sushi prepared fresh in their open kitchen and worth the wait! Staff happy to make adjustments to sushi fillings as required. A relaxed atmosphere inside made it a enjoyable spot for Saturday evening dinner with a few drinks.

This restaurant is lovely, food is amazingly good, but recently they change management and the prices change as we’ll. That means on online website you have different prices than in restaurants. I had to pay £7 differences in restaurants besides with this small quantity of wasabi for 3 people set I ask for extra and they charge me £1. I recommend to check the price before your order.

Best Japanese food in Leicester! I love coming to this place, the food is superb, big congrats to the chef. I'd eat every day here if I could! The sashimi is generously cut, the rock shrimp tempura and spicy squid is superb. My fave of all time is the prawn and veg udon noodle soup. Cannot beat this! Thanks and see you again!

Enjoyed out sushi here. It was spot on, just like the Bonzai in Nottingham. The only thing i will say is that the service struggles a bit when they’re busy and take cash if you want to give a tip.

I came here with some friends, I’m new to Leicester and I was happy to find a new place to eat; I love sushi! First we got seated down and welcome very warmly, then given some time to think about the order and given some drinks. Our waiter YY was really sweet and attentive, as well as giving us a memorable dine out. The food didn’t take much time considering we ordered a big sushi boat for the four of us. I’ve never had good sushi here in England and was impressed! I paired the sushi with an Asahi beer, nice and tasty together. Finally, we decided to pass on dessert and YY gave us some Hello Panda treats, he was a sweetheart. Very kind and happy, I will definitely come again just for the customer service. We were all more than happy to leave a tip! Would definitely recommend if you are in Leicester

First time here, spent less than at other sushi places and the portions were very generous. Food was very fresh, very tasty. They took extra care to cater for my child, making sure nothing is too spicy. The sushi was absolutely gorgeous, one of the best I had so far. This sushi bar is a beautiful place to eat, the service was by far the best I've ever experienced, all staff were genuinely kind, friendly and down to earth and went above and beyond in their service for you. The food tasted and looked amazing, especially the bento boxes that allowed you to try a few different things at once, and made for a delicious filling meal. I would absolutely go here again and would recommend to others to try this restaurant :)

Went for my Birthday yesterday and absolutely loved it. Originally from Canada and its hard to find good quality sushi restaurants in the UK. I had the pad thai, prawn tempura and various sushi dishes. The food is 10/10. The service from the staff and waiters/waitress was really good and friendly. Hats off to the chef and whole staff at Bonzai Sushi Bar Leicester. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

This is my first time in the restaurant. I did check the reviews before I decide. At first, I felt unsure but went there anyway. Please make sure you make a booking before turning up. Food is awesome. Highly recommended. Waitress are always doing their best to keep all customer happy. So be kind even if you need to wait.

The staff is very very kind, almost to the point of being OTT, the food was good and like the service, the decor was a bit OTT. Dont be swayed by the lack of consistency with the themeing of their interior though, the sushi will more than make up for it. =)

Had a wonderful experience, super warm and friendly hospitality, the sumo sushi+sashimi boat was amazing. Really really recommend this restaurant. Great service and great good, I would highly recommend the Singapore iced tea and salt and chilli prawn. It was easily one of the best dishes I've ever had. Will definitely be returning!!

I must say the food is great, crispy tempura, good portion sizes, tastes good too. I've had better sashimi elsewhere but this was still a good place to eat. We had the godzilla sushi role which was delicious, however the rice seemed a bit too compact perhaps? Like it had been pressed and smashed together really hard just so it would stick. However the price for this roll was reasonable, at around 12 quid for 8 pieces. Elsewhere non city prices can sometimes range from 14-20 quid for the same amount. Only real issue was the service. Speed was very slow, albeit a busy night but I mean let's just say the floor staff could've been a bit more focused as to what needs doing- leaving customers waiting about an hr to be seated when there are clearly tables and they seem somewhat negligent to the fact empty tables can be wiped in less than 5 minutes...

my friends and I went to this place today and it was absolutely brilliant!!! I can not recommend bonzai enough! All the staff are friendly especially the girl and the manager YY, he made us feel so welcome and was very accommodating as our diets include halal food, he was extremely understanding and respectful. We went on Wednesday night with the "Eat out to help out" deal and didn't book a table so the place was very busy so long waiting time was understandable. The restaurant follows the Covid-19 regulations with hand sanitiser, under shoes spray and asking you for telephone number and postcode. The seats are spread out and has barrier so you feel safely distant from the other customers. The food was amazing! We ordered takoyaki, miso soup and Sumo sushi platter. Takoyaki - taste good. Nice and crispy outside. Ok amount of octopus Miso soup - perfect. Not too salty like some places, loads of seaweed and tofu. Sumo sushi platter - 10/10 for presentation! Sashimi was fresh. The sushi rice was soft yet firm (it didn't just collapsed when you pick it up). I enjoyed every single piece! Hard to pick a favourite! The toilet wasn't the best. There is only one to share but they kept it clean. Nothing much else to say about it. The decoration. Lively but not too cluttered. Really nice to look around. It was really hot outside and the restaurant has open kitchen but they manage to keep it nice and breezy when you're inside. Overall it was enjoyable dinner. The down side was that they didn't accept card. Not sure if they usually don't accept card or there's a problem with the card reader. I love this restaurant and it's my first visit. I don't think I've been treated so well at an establishment. The ice teas we ordered we beyond excellent - Singapore lemon ice tea, can't go wrong. Best sushi place in Leicester! First time visiting and the experience outdoes any dining experience I've had. Tasty food with a good variety of Sushi, rice and Noodle dishes. The ambience is great and the staff are friendly and helpful. Things to note: Teppanyaki Set was not available on Sunday evening. Not an issue as there's plenty of other choice, but only found out after ordering. Likewise, the restaurant is cash-only, but it's useful to know going in. Would likely visit again.

Fantastic. Busy Saturday night. Was advised that I could be accomodated but was to be aware that they were very busy. I was accepting of the wait. The tastiest mango roll. Delicious! We had a reservation tonight for 2 people and they accommodated another 2 friends last minute. We ordered and was around 25 minutes before receiving any food to the table, which is slightly slow for my liking but not ridiculous, however the food came to our table rather sporadically and sort of at different times, for about 15 minutes one person was eating a warm dish without anyone else eating anything just because we hadn't got anything else delivered to the table. The food sure made the wait of 1hr20mins less of a blow after the food came out wrong once (an hour and 5 minutes in) and we had started to become increasingly frustrated with the wait, we were told that the girl that had served us was new which us fair enough but this wasn't any excuse for the initial wait of the order. Overall I'd rate the food a 6/5 for sushi but around a 2 or 3/5 for service and speed. If you have nowhere to be this is a great little pla e to grab some good food! The supervisor did try to put everything right and apologised for the long delays.

Food was beautiful. Wasn't really a fan of sushi before however, this place absolutely changed my mind. A number of great starters too, love the crispy chicken skewers. Prices are really good for the quality of food you get. Service is the only inconsistency, some days it's great, other days it's a little slow. The service staff are always super nice though. One of my favourite regular spots in Leicester.

Great restaurant with a fantastic selection of sushi and traditional dishes. The manager (yy) goes above and beyond to make sure your visit is a pleasant one, with the warmest welcome and attentive, caring service thoughout. On arrival he asked my Japanese girlfriend (who loves the food!) where she was from and adjusted the playlist to include songs from her country. Between the food and the service, this is a restaurant I will continue to return to in the future!

AMAZING customer service! I have never felt so welcomed and accommodated for as a muslim in an east asian restaurant. The meat is halal and you are made aware of which sauces have alcohol too! On top of that the sushi is delicious! The matcha ice tea is cooling and comforting and the Singaporean ice tea is divine (I believe it's not on the menu but a chef special). Would give more than 5 stars if I could!

I've been a regular at bonzai for years to be honest. Today I went down and there was a new manager (I haven't been in a little while due to covid) welcomed us nicely and gave us a table. Towards the end of the meal an Uber delivery man came in and as he was waiting for the food went to use the toilet, the manager practically grabbed him and said "no you can't use, only for customer" the man felt embarrased and was then told to wait outside! Baring in mind there was about 4 customers in the store at the time! Then I was told the card machine doesn't work so went to the cashpoint to cash out, came back and paid and was just taking a couple moments before leaving and I hear the manager speaking to one of the waitresses in his native tongue but I made out him saying "are they not leaving yet" looking in my direction. I then got angry at this and asked him to repeat it to which he started saying "no no you heard wrong" and started to try hold my arms. I was so angry and told him what he did was rude and he said "on bye and just told us to leave. Honestly really upset with this as we loved the food! I have no time for rude people and will not be returning!

Tried sushi for the first time at this place and was very satisfied. Good was excellent and they had a great choice to choose from. The good was presented very elegantly in a plate the shape of a boat. The customer service was okay only as the staff could barely speak English a little strange for a place in the heart of Leicester City centre. I think the vibe of this place is more for couples and would recommend this place to couples who like their sushi. The prices are a bit on the higher end but nothing unreasonable and the overall experience is very good.

The food here was great, very tasty but the experience was let down by a number of mistakes. We order vegetable tempura which had bits of prawn tempura in it by accident. Despite asking several times our noodles did not arrive, neither did our water. Booking a table beforehand was also really difficult. Disappointing as the food was really good, big portions and at a fair price. But the customer service and desire to make amends were not existant.

Like other reviews mention the service isn't that great but there's a young woman and a bald guy who are very nice. Sushi was great but I wouldn't go for any of the noodle dishes as I saw the chef get the noodles from a packet in the microwave!

It's a good place if you are looking to find some iconic Japanese food, served in a very unique composition. I especially enjoyed to see the sushi plate to be served on a wooden mini boat. The decor is original and let's you ponder over the culture for a bit longer. The staff is native Japanese which ads to the experience. They may not speak the greatest English but that is just on of the things you kind of feel good about in a place like this. You will be quickly spotted at the entrance, however the manager always seems to be worried on how to organise your sitting and food delivery time. He will inform you if certain food will take longer to prepare, considering that some of the food you or your friends ordered could arrive faster. It gets you to feel a bit uneasy when you are in front of him trying to make the right decision on what to order, but ultimately the whole experience is unique anyway. I would give five stars if the music was more of a Japanese feel as well, instead it's some sort of random radio station. I truly recommend you give this place a try. You may not return straight away but it will definitely stay in your mind.

I have only ever had delivery from this place, so I cannot comment on customer service which seems to be a bone of contention. Their sushi is fresh and delicious, the tempura crisp and oil free. Their udon in the ramen still have a chewiness which is rarely found. They have a huge vegetarian selection, so I don't think I will be eating anywhere else for a while!

Whilst they advertise "open till 11pm" on entering at 10.05pm one of the "chefs" was angry with the waitress for agreeing to take our order. They stated the kitchen closed at 10.30pm, I pointed out it was only 5 past, so what was the problem? Atmosphere was so uncomfortable my 2 companions left, rather than stay and get food. Very bizarre behaviour. Food was nice, though way too much wasabi was put on my meal, so some of the sushi was ruined as it was literally caked in wasabi.
