Reviews of Hope & Anchor
A. 2.
Pleasantly suprised on my first visit to this pub tonight. We walked in to a valentines quiz, hosted by the DJ who played some good music. He also did a guess the artist /song/actor quiz afterwards, which I found was a nice little entertainment. The food was good, my partner enjoyed his steak and I enjoyed my chicken skewers. The coleslaw needs abit of work though, it didn't have much taste to it and was very dry. The staff were very friendly and attentive. I would go back in the summer, I should imagine it's a beautiful setting outdoors with the river that runs alongside.

Atmosphere fab. Staff were very friendly. But steak was extremely poor. Full of veins and inedible. Such a shame but the dog will be happy if we are able to have a doggie bag to take it home. They kindly gave my dad his money back when we mentioned it. Thank you
N. H.
Food and service was great, good portion sizes, good to know they accept clubcard converted vouchers and also blue light card discount. Eating out is a bit more affordable 🙂
K. M.
Amazing service! Great pub food! Ethan on the bar was a great help with seating us and attending to anything we needed. Will definitely be back again, shame about the kids play area hopefully see it return soon.

The staff were very welcoming when we arrived and the food was really good, the whole party really enjoyed it.

Lovely friendly staff very helpful. Bit dark in there, management get better lights and please sort out the provider of the rump steaks as very grisly, had to keep taking out of my mouth the grisle I couldn't swallow, a bit embarrasing in front of Customers around. Other than that lovely place. Will come again if a new meat provider is sort out.
l. C.
Food was lovely. We all thoroughly enjoyed it. Only down fall was noone cleared the plates. we had to ask and the desert took a while to come out.

Had a wonderful meal and josh was an absolutely brilliant server. His personality lit up the room. I will be recommending to all my friends.
J. E.
Quite busy but we arrived at 12:00, and was shocked to learn that most of the dishes had already apparently sold out. The food was ok, the service was a little lacking ... We stayed for about 2 hours and it slowly got busier and busier ... So very cramped when we left.
P. R.
Good food, polite and helpful staff, and clean Eaten there many times and if I eat out anywhere it's got to be good
J. W.
Basic family pub. We just had a drink with friends. Not our kind of menu to eat at. Nothing healthy, pile it up on the plate. Suits many. Not our style
c. r.
Enjoyed a Sunday a roast was really nice. My partner had a large mixed grill which he also said was really nice.
p. f.
My daughters invited me for a fathers day meal.we all enjoyed the varied menu and the children were all catered for.

Have been today with 12 adults including adults with disabilities. Can't say how well the staff treated us. Definitely recommend it to anyone who passes by
D. M.
This pub is by the canal and in an excellent position with a play area for kids. The food is nice, very cheaply priced and often with offers. Service warm and friendly.
Update: Breakfast in the sun this time, very 👍

I came into the hope recently for something to eat, I can say the rustic atmosphere of the place is incredible, the food was lovely and the service was even better, a lot of prompts go to the cheeky chap on the bar Ethan!!!!
C. W.
Had a lovely meal last Friday at the hope and anchor pub in syston. I often go most Fridays and I’m always fully satisfied when I leave. Food is delicious and very good for the money, you get so much it’s always a challenge trying to finish it. The staff are always so lovely and friendly. They couldn’t make you feel any more welcome, especially Liberty the bar manager and Emma the manager who runs the pub. I wouldn’t go anywhere els if I want a meal out, I always look forward to going again when I leave. 100% recommend to couples, families and friends who just want a casual meet up.!
D. D.

The food was decent and good value for money, service and waiting time was spot on. The only problems were a slight bad smell in there and the doors were open letting the cold in. Would definitely go again though
P. D.

not best impression
J. B.
Pop up to do some canal fishing. Was delighted to be able to park in the car park after asking manager. Decided to have a breakfast, what a lovely meal food was fresh and properly cooked. Totally recommend this establishment
K. P.
What a quaint little pub this is! Hope & Anchor is a hidden-away gen located at the canalside. You'll find plenty of parking and and a small outside area for food and drinks.
Hope & Anchor has become our favourite for pub dinners and pub breakfast (haven't quite managed to squeeze in a pub lunch yet...) The portions are decent sized and the prices are not bad at all!
Top this off with always-smiling staff and a family friendly atmosphere and you've got yourself a winner here!
R. R.
I was torn between a 3 and 4 star rating. The staff were friendly and the main course arrived promptly and was nice. Puddings were a bit disappointing, the car park could do with litter picking, there were quite a few tables outside that needed clearing and a wipe and the toilets were a bit grubby (I decided not to give a 3 star rating as it was very busy and perhaps these points were a result of this). Overall a good experience and lovely to walk along the canal and around the country park.
J. E.
Nice food. Come out at a reasonable time. Plesant staff. Could do with a referb' though, looking a bit tired now. Would visit again.
N. N.
Great food. Great customer service and the new management is great.

Lovely family meal. Menu caters for all needs. Prices fair. Food well cooked.
Staff friendly and helpful. Speed of food very good. We was all very happy with our meals.
Very cosy. Only downfall was the tables very tacky/sticky.
We will return
C. W.
Nice little pub, decent food, nice staff, small boat canal for the kids to see.
P. H.
This is part of the Hungry horse group. We stopped for lunch. It is located next to the canal. Lunch was tasty my son had a pie and they do two meals for 8.,99 which is very good value. Nice stop, good food.

Nice place, loads of outside space, staff were very friendly. Didn't eat there so can't comment on the food.
H. a. A.
Very friendly welcome. The gentleman we met outside who was helpful and friendly also took our order to save us waiting any longer for the waiting staff. He was very helpful and advised us of the wine by the bottle offer which was exceptional value.
J. M.
Very friendly bar staff. The beer garden is close to the canal, and there are a couple of tables seated right by it too.
M. V.
Great place to grab a good value, filling breakfast after parkrun.

The staff were fantastic as we were support staff and had 3 services users with us they took the time to get to know them by there names and made them feel very welcomed.the new covid rules had just came in and the staff were dealing with it brilliantly. The food was great and was presented beautifully. We had a great time and would come back.
K. T.

Cosy countryside pub, ample parking, fantastic quality of food, service is very polite. Located next to the canal with countryside walks les than two mins away.
A. C.
Really nice traditional pub with a great food and drink selection.
Z. Z.
Cheap and cheerful. Good value breakfast.
j. a.
Great food lovely staff just had to queue to order food and drinks only had 1 till working
R. H.
As the name suggests, situated next to the Soar Navigation.
Although part of the Hungry Horse outlets this one still oozed the idea of a traditional pub and dining. Really friendly and helpful staff and for a Wednesday lunch time had a very steady flow of customers.
A good choice on the menu and food was served in good time and piping hot.
Well done to one and all. Will definitely drop in again when next in that area.
d. l.
I went with 2 friends ,had a mini mixed grill which was lovely ,it was also quiz night which we joined in turned out to be a great night out

6 of us went to have a meal to celebrate a Birthday.
A pub quiz was on, which we did not join in with, but we did not mind.
The staff were pleasant enough, but we did have to change an order after it went to the kitchen, then we had to remind them of drinks we ordered with the food.
The food was generally good and plentiful, with the only slight negative being the batter on the cod, which was somewhat thick, well done on the outside and stodgy and undercooked on the inside.
Overall we left full and happy.
L. C. (.
Interesting place right on the canal side with lovely walks in either direction. There are ample tables inside & out. Great play area though younger children need supervision. We went for lunch & the food was good & plentiful.
Ordering was a bit strange- if you order via the website you save 20%, however we saved more than that. We wondered how staff would know but they did + the food came well within the 15 minutes stated online. Staff were pleasant and helpful & nobody objected to our baby eating food brought from home. Toilet facilities are fine. Only criticism the table tops were about sticky and it's quite dark inside but cool on a very hot day.
M. L.
Good service .. food good.my mistake 5stars
z. s.
Wonderful pub, excellent service and great food. The portions are quite large and they do excellent deals for each day of the week. Love coming here, especially on an evening in the summer as it has a really lovely long canal walk right in front.
E. M.
Lovely food at a good price for the portions, but a bit busy at times
A. H.
My wife and I do like the Hope and Anchor. Otherwise we wouldn't keep going, but last Sunday, after a long walk we wanted a latte. They had no milk! So we could only have black coffee or black tea. A cold drink it was. We ordered food and once we received it we noticed two vegatables missing on the plate. Even carrots. We do wish we were told before ordering. It's just polite. Anyway we made our way through our beef dinners and finished the plates. So it was still worth having. I enjoyed it anyway.
Please H & A make sure you at least have milk. Customers want warming up on cold winter days as well as maybe a beer etc.
See you soon!
m. a. (.
Nice pub overlooking the canal beautiful in the summer and right across the road from watermead country park
A. B.
Friendly service and great food.
W. B.
Great food, went for dinner then lunch a few days later. Dog friendly which is a huge plus point for us.
P. B.
Great food Sunday menu 2 for 11.99 which includes a Sunday roast if you wanted absolutely lovely food highly recommended
J. S.
Great food at very reasonable prices. Friendly staff especially Charlotte who always goes above and beyond. Kid & dog friendly too!
D. J.
Amazing service. Special shout out to Billy and Carla on the bar last night, amazing service and really quick considering the Father’s Day rushes. Food was absolutely amazing too, hubby was impressed and it’s really hard to impress him. Please pass these comments onto the chefs, who I’m sure will be pleased that their work did not go unnoticed. We will be coming back soon. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
J. E.
Beautiful scenic views in summer, great tasting food that is VERY affordable and good value for money with the portion sizes. Lovely drinks, delightful staff, good atmosphere overall as well as being a great place to stop by on a dog walk along the river.
P. F.
Nice place near the river, not as good as it use to be, attitude by the young staff when serving. Not tried the food yet but looked busy on a Sunday.
c. p.
Lovely food. Next to the canal to walk off the food. Will be back again
D. D.
Brilliant hadn't been for a long time but will defiantly be going back great service fabulous food great value, lovely walk by the canal
A. B.
Wow loads of food types very competitive prices me and the wife both had meals and a drink each or less than £18.00
What a bargain and what lovely cooking
K. J.
came in this morning 17/08/19 with my friend for some drinks and some food. was a bit busy with the weather being nice an all, but we got served quite quickly. Will on bar was friendly and had banter with us, and the manager Billy was always around helping out where he could. You've got to give the staff credit at this place. Been a few times and always seem short of staff when its busy so must be hard for them. Speak to billy, he's always ready to help
J. D.
Popped in for tea last night , staff very welcoming one even took water out for our dog without being asked food came not a too ling wait for food came out very tasty
C. B.
It's alovely country pub lots of choice from the menu to suit everyone.
Out door area so you can eat outside also children's play area you can walk along the river next to the pub.
Nice area inside the pub plenty of space for groups or family's.
Also disabled toilets and wheelchair access.
We had a great meal today.
O.
Absolutely wonderful staff, punctual with orders and drinks. Fantastic place to take my parents out for their anniversary. Couldn't have asked for better service. 10/10 would go again and recommend to a friend.
G. C.
Good access to nice walks lovely atmosphere staff are approachability and friendly recommend a visit
E. G.
Staff pleasant and friendly. Good service. Good food (steak sizzlers good). Prices reasonable. Good location next to the canal - great on days of good weather. Minus points; 1) The smoking area should be at the side, away from the doors, as the smoke drifts in. 2) The tables could do with a good scrubbing as ours was a little sticky.
T. B.
Bought 2 pints Coors and 2 meals. Delicious!
Lovely location next to the canal, especially on a sunny day, that allows dogs. Good food at reasonable prices with a welcoming atmosphere.
J. B.
Food well cooked and served. Pub very tired needs total revamp. Nice location under used.
L. I.
Nice pub, decent food and drink. Good atmosphere.
S. B.
Tables and menus always sticky with the uncleaned feel, food is average, but for the price ok. The location of the pub is lovely along the canal, so nice for a summers day to have a drink and there's a play area for children.
C. G.
Friendly staff, good breakfast
M. H.
So accommodating, service was spot on as per....
L. L.
Food was really nice. Service was good and was a very good price too. Children's meals were more than enough for them and there is some healthy choices too. Would definitely recommend. Also there is children's play area and seating outside so perfect for keeping the little ones entertained while you wait for food. The waiting time wasn't too bad either especially for a busy Sunday, it all came out in good time. Would visit again.
S. S.
Nice friendly pub. Nice atmosphere. Good choice of well cooked food. Good choice of beers, lagers and ciders as well as other alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Kiddies welcome. Good kids menu choice. Quizes and entertainment on through out the week. Outside seating and play area for the summer. Keep kids under supervision as only a few minutes opposite the canal.
C. W.
Absolutely love this pub. It's so cozy & it can feel romantic too. Staff are lovely, happy to help. Menu is full of pub favs that everyone loves, the food is always fresh & cooked to order. The food tastes really good 😋🤩 It's a regular place for our Date Night. Outside there's a park for the kids. Able to sit out with drinks. Disabled access with loo. There's a few kids lucky dip claw games also offer colouring pages with little quizzes & a couple of adult gambling machines. Go....go try this family pub out, you'll love it too 😍
S. H.
Friendly staff, food was hot and fresh and really quick to come out. Perfect!
R. T.
Lovely littel pub right next to the river good food at reasonable prices
P. G.
Best eat out I've had for ages and the burger I had ,nearly asked for a ladder to get to the top it was huge under 15 pound as well
c. s.
Enjoyed the meal. Nice fish and chips
P. C. M.
Stopped by here on way back from twin lakes theme park with the family. Wide range of food choice from steak, burgers and chicken. Daily meal deals too. Food was served hot and fast with good presentation. All staff were super helpful and friendly. Price was cheap, portion sizes large. Also has a little outdoor play area for kids and many outside tables, some back onto a canal and cycle path. Great experience for inexpensive family dinning.
G. B.
Stopped drinking alcoholic drinks about 3 years ago but still come here with work friends as they do great meals, snacks etc, staff is really friendly and quick on their feet.
Everything is very reasonably priced, decent car park, plenty of outdoor and indoor seating, play area for kids. Would definitely recommend.
V. C.
First pub I ever went to in the UK and loved it. Staff are really friendly and helpful and I found the food to be great. Went there with some friends once and they even allowed us to play a trivia game - even though we obviously had no idea we had fun and they seemed to enjoy our lack of knowledge as well lol. Would definitely recommend !
C. S.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff and tasty food! 100% recommend :)
J. P. R.
Our first but not last visit at midday today. Lovely clean family pub on the river bank with seating inside and out. Food was very tasty and well presented and the service was excellent. Definitely worth a visit.
G. L.
Amazing food at amazing prices
E. K.
Another very reasonable place to eat especially at off peak times. Prices are good, very family friendly with a good play area for all ages fenced off so the kids can't wonder down to the canal, which is another reason to go you can eat and drink and watch the narrow boat drift by, take a walk down the toe path or on the other side of the road you can walk around waterpark beautiful for fishing and sporting wildlife. Remember to take some for for the ducks, geese and swans.
P. J.
Busy enough pub knocking out cheap and cheerful grub. Nice staff, nice location.
H. K.
Friendly , honest staff but dissatisfied with the food. Chose simple British fare from the menu...not a great advert for a country park pub . Tough beef..tougher Yorkshire pud ! ?! ..and a steak pie which was mostly pastry. I know it's not expensive but standard food should be standard..
D. G.
Been here a few times, the staff can't do enough for you. This Friday I had a family meal for my sons 21st birthday. They had set a table up in the small room behind the bar as there was 10 of us. The room was reserved from 4pm so I could go and put decorations up. Ordered the food and it all came out at the same time, not a massive wait time either. Food was great. They brought the cake out we had brought with us, they didn't rush us or make us feel like we had to hurry and go like some places do. Was a really good night.
A. M.
Head here whenever we go to see relatives, staff are all super friendly (local to the father-in-law) good selection of food and good portion size so be prepared to eat.
Only minor downside is it’s looking a little tired inside and out, general maintenance seems to be an issue (last time of visit the park for the kids had some parts Broken which poses a hazard to the little ones run around like loonies)
Generally good and always nice to see the camel boats passing.
R. F.
Good selection of decent pub food and wide variety of drinks. Also useful to have the Green King app.
B. O.
In the end everyone ordered fish and chips (either real fish or vegan fish). The fish was ok, and the chips were mostly left which is never a good sign. The mushy peas were nearly cold, and peas quite hard. The vegan fish came with non-vegan tartar sauce which was naughty. The only real complaint was there was some burnt stuff all over the non-vegan fish and chips. Was it from the grill? Not sure?
Anyway, although not terrible we will not go back in a hurry.
A. H.
quiz was really fun, and the food and drink is always amazing and cheap. service never disappoints, especially if you speak to Billy, always going out of his way to help everyone. everyone else is also amazing, including Sam H, who looks after everyone on the night.
A. B.
Cheap nice food friendly staff but I always find the tables to feel very sticky maybe they should change there cleaning products
P. T.
Food OK and swift service considering it was busy. Beer garden looks neglected so could do with some attention
V. B.
Staff was friendly and helpful. I've had a couple of drinks and we sat outside as the weather was nice. It is so sad that the outside of this pub was so dirty. All of the bins where overflowing, litter and rubbish everywhere and the floor was covered with cigarette ends. There was smashed glass under the tables. What a shame! This place could be so much more. My guess is that the place is understaffed as I saw only two ladies working.
D. T.
Lovely food & good prices. You can sit inside or out & theres also a canal next to it so you can go for a lovely walk after. Ample parking. Very clean.
R. B.
Lovely atmosphere great service brilliant food could not fault it, will be back
A. S.
Slow service at the bar, staff doing their best but not enough of them working. Fish & chips ok and beer ok but no napkins.
The whole experience felt a bit shoddy compared to what you experience at other pubs in the area at the same time of day.
S. S.
Lovely place to relax inside or out on a nice day.
Food was excellent and we did not have to wait long even though it was busy.
Great place for groups couples families, disabled etc.
Large car park.
Reasonable prices and friendly staff.
C. H.
Great food and value for money also friendly staff
B. T.
Have always loved this place. The staff are always friendly and professional. Food is excellent and never have to wait long. My favourite place for pub grub
S. C.
Food and service very good will go again

My family and I have been going to the Hope And Anchor for many years and it's always good value for money. It can get very busy at certain times but you can book tables. And if you download the Green King app you can choose and pay for your food and drink from your table and get table service plus first time you use the app you get 20% off the total bill!
L. W.
Breakfasts are fab! Cheap and cheerful,
C. B.
Great place for a family meal
J. K.
brought the kids and sat outside. shame this place hasn't been redone lately because always love outside especially for kids play area. can't beat koppabarg in the sun ;) spoke to manager, billy about food and suggested we go for family deal for £15. not bad considering you get 2 adults 2 kids and sharing sundae. thinking of coming back bank holiday
M. N.
Wow! Great meal, great atmosphere, love the vibe of the canal just seconds away. Me and the dog shall be back again
H. B.
Great love to eat there ! it's very local and is great for kids, as it has sandpit to enjoy, play areas. the queue is not long, food is very enjoyable, with a wide range to choose from. Very clean and provides a amazing day out for all the family.
K. W.
Good stop off for walking around the lakes
w. h.
Love this pub, especially in the summer as it's location is on the canal, family friendly with a childrens play area and very friendly all round with lovely food at a very reasonable price. Great place to have a relaxing drink /meal or party if you're feeling a bit lively.. Excellent service and hospitality, can't fault it.
A.
Good food cheap price say no more
C. R.
We have been coming here for a few years and always had no need to complain. But since you have put on the new menu for the over sixties. We have tried twice to order the three courses of a soup..cottage pie..and chocolate brownie. Both times out of stock.VERY DISAPPOINTED Will try once more next week. If still out of stock will go elsewhere.
D. D.
The food is excellent, the chicken is faultless, the best I've tasted anywhere, staff brilliant and price's won't be beaten.well worth a visit.
A. A.
The staff and manager are so kind and helpful the food was excellent didn't have to wait long
J. W.
When I put petrol into my diesel engine, I ended up in the Hope and Anchor car park. The staff were exceptionally kind and helpful - lending me a phone and allowing us to stay till the AA got us going again. The staff were very friendly and chatty and they looked after us very well. We've eaten there quite often and always had good meals, quickly served even when they were busy.
M. G.
Very good meal at a decent price, very helpful staff would go again
P. A.
My wife and I went for a meal on Tuesday about 6 pm. we found a table outside. I am disabled and use a wheelchair, access was great no probs, the place was very busy, we placed our order and got our meal about 30 mins later. 2 meals for £8.45. I could not fault it. I read all the bad reports but as I live 200 yards away I thought We should give it a go, don't believe all you read see for yourself, top marks.
G. m.
Food is nice here staff are lovely . but the the place is untidy .needs a clean around .gardan is messy and untidy
A. H.
Was went to sample the new menu but all three of our first choices were unavailable which for a menu that only launched yesterday was a poor show.
I settled for a southern fried chicken burger which I doubled up but when it came out the small dry bun with a little bit of iceberg lettuce and a tomato slice and two small battered chicken breasts, accompanied. By a small conical tin with French fries looked lost on the plate.
My daughter had a sizzling steak which was very chewy on a bed of fried onions and peppers, whether chunky chips and a corn cob eye, and my mother had fish and chips but the batter was soggy and quite greasy, so not the best meal which is a shame as we eat there regularly
J. C.
Good location next to the canal. Lovely on a sunny day to sit outside and watch the world go by. Food is ok and reasonably priced. Unfortunately tables are often full of plates and glasses, could be cleaned sooner.
D. M.
Very good. First time for 3 years
S. H.
Good food. Quiet pub. Pleasant surrounding.
C. W.
Food was ok could have been a hell of alot better. Garlic breaded mushroom was almost tasteless and could have been cooked better. Wont be going back anytime soon very disappointed good job it was cheap pub grub!
J. I.
Kids were happy, cute by the canal nice stop off
K. R.
Lovely food great value for money. And this pub made us feel very very covid safe so thank you for taking all the precautions into account.
C. E.
Your local pub, huge portion sizes from the menu :) nice staff
J. A.
Food was nice and plenty of it the staff were friendly and even though it was snowing there were quite a few people. The big plate meals are just that. I had the chicken tikka masala and it was nice it says it comes with chips rice naan popadom and 3 onion bhaji so I expected some thing a little more like an asda meal deal bit I was wrong. The onion bhajis were big and flavorful and the other portions were just as big. Would definitely go again
J. S.
Tasty well presented food, very efficient service.
T. M.
It's rather worn and dated. It's in a nice location, and has an outdoor children's play area, and is right next to the canal. But inside is rather drab and there's a poor selection of drinks. Overall nothing special, and there's better pubs locally.
U. K.
Just wanna say, after taking my dad there, we had San Miguel and both myself and my dad enjoyed it. Dad especially saying it was the best beer he had in a long time. Well done Hope & Anchor. Will be returning.
C. D.
Good food. Great offers. Excellent value for money. Clean and happy friendly helpful staff.
S.
I would love to give more stars the staff are very friendly and the place is full of atmosphere. Unfortunately the some of the food was very poor. Just because we had a later booking we couldn't get most of what we originally wanted as run out then what we did get was very mediocre
M. S.
The food was good, large portions and prepared quickly. Very reasonably priced, just lacked a little something--the lovely fireplace was lost next to the bar, instead of being a focal point
c. c.
Went for family meal - 12 of us, excellent service, lovely food. Really nice place, and had nice play area outside for kids too
E. S.
Great food and service. Excellent price. It also makes it easy that you can order using your phone!
D. W.
Had a lovely meal very nice staff really welcoming thank you
B. W.
Love this place, scenery and staff 5 stars
S. M.
A good cheap and cheerful restaurant.
A. W.
Very nice on a sunny day or evening by the water service good foods good
L. B.
Great place and lovely food. Will was welcoming behind the bar. Enjoyed our visit.
C. S.
Any american struggling to find portions they're accustomed to must check this place out. You can get enough food in one serving to last the entire day and it's hardly any more pricey than your typical gastro-pub.
P. G.
Cheap and cheerful, bit run down, excellent staff
R. A.
Nice friendly pub great food
P. D.
OK ish on service
But hadn't any salt or vinegar for chips and 1 meal was wrong and had to go back to be changed.
C. C.
Nice food...fair prices and friendly staff
L. B.
Really lovely Service extremely good
Food delicious. Will go again.
G. S.
My mixed grill was really nice a steak cooked perfectly. Unfortunately my partner's food was returned twice as it was cremated but overall a good meal.
V. L.

C. C.
Nice place good food
M. B.
Friendly atmosphere and helpful staff. The food tasted ok and was served quickly but portions were very poor and not presented very well.
V. N.
Lovely little local by the canal!
P. B.
Just popped in for a coffee after Parkrun.
M. P.
Lovely family pub, on the river bank, great place to enjoy a meal with the family
b. i.
Very good but the ceiling was a little to low in some places where I was sitting I hit my head several times. Food was perfect. I would definitely recommend this place
P. A.
For us it was a good place to stop for a drink whilst cruising on a narrow boat. Moored up right outside. Gets busy though, seems very popular.
C. B.
Good service, good food, portions very good.
All round lovely place to visit .
Play area for kiddies seating inside and out.
k. B. S.
A nice pub with great staff but seriously lacking in the number of vegetarian options, can be very busy at times too... outdoor seating is available but occasionally smells of sewage from the disgustingly managed Severn Trent sewage works nearby...
A. C. M.
Poor cooking skills and lack of training in the kitchen resulted in a dissappointing meal. Our waiter, Adam, was superb with exemplary complaint-management skills and without his extraordinary efforts this would have been a score of 1.
I think a lot of the problems lay in the cook's lack of understanding of what was expected of them. A new item on the menu required stirfried vegetables, pulled pork and shredded spring onion. We got sweetened pulled pork in a white cob and that was it. No stirfried vegetables and no spring onion. I complained and the kitchen sent out bowl full of raw blackened, mildewed, tough red cabbage. Completely inedible. No spring onions. Clearly they didn't know it was supposed to be stirfried.
Main course disastrous. Steak overcooked and returned. Dried out, old macaroni cheese. Again supposed fried veg on a skillet were raw.
Basically the kitchen staff do not understand the menu. Perhaps they should read one?
If the Hungry Horse chain has catering trainers or managers, they are 'missing an opportunity' here.
I would avoid this one if you can help it. If you are forced to eat there, ask for Adam!
A. W.
Food served fast, prepared as we had ordered. The place could do with a make over, especially the toilets. Staff very pleasant.
S. H.
Friendly staff nice and clean food was lovely had a nice time will be going back
B. L. V. 1.
Very nice pint
L. B.
Food was lovely + there was a 50% off the food, staff was very polite (apart from one young woman, who was very rude) allowed dogs outside and social distancing is in place !
S. S.
Had a great time there
L. H.
Excellent Friendly Service all round.
Lovely food couldn't fault it, booked again.
N. G.
👍
H. M.
The food is always spot on, queues were not bad considering covid restrictions and we didn't have to book first
G. R. U.
The food is really good. understaffed. services are really poor. But the location in viewing it's wonderful too bad for the personal and actually for the lack of manners
M. R.
Another hungry horse pub. Standard food & standard pricing. Nothing exceptional but nothing to complain about apart from cleaning products used make tables feel sticky.
T. O.
We took our granddaughter for a meal ! She ordered pizza !! Which turned out to be a wrap spread with tomato and a small amount of grated cheese slightly melted on top !! The tables were sticky ! Needless to say the night was ruined. We shall not be returning !
A. P.
Good service and great food, felt safe in restaurant
N. W.
I always have a great time here, the food is great and reasonably priced. Decent selection of drinks, can't go wrong. :)
J. G.
Fantastic customer service off the female behind the bar and NOTHING was to much trouble (bee knees take note!) Food excellent 8 out 10 will be back!!!
F. V.
Decent pub on the canal. On a nice day (which for us it was) sit out side and enjoy a beer. Took ages to get served. Looks a little dated but does what it says on the tin. Food, drinks.
N. K.
Very nice meals
L.
Unusual pub food choices at sensible prices. Decor a bit drab but so typically the traditional British pub look! Nice and clean and very friendly, helpful staff.
J. H.
Friendly atmosphere.
Have to book online
Chicken wrap was lovely
S. N.
Went their with the family had a good meal nice children bit cold for playing outside food was very good and the service was also will be going back .
L. H.
Enjoyed this visit to a hungry horse. Lovely situation by the canal. Not so big that it can't cope. Food was quick and hot and actually tasty!
R. L.
Nice little Pub set in a decent location next to the canal. Reasonable selection of beers and food, service could do with being at little quicker but overall worth a visit.
J. L.
Meals were quick staff friendly lovely meal
C. w.
A hungry horse menu..had a voucher offer to use so took the family out for lunch..friendly bar staff and good choice of food..the day we visited was after christmas and they were short of food we wanted but offered alternatives that we chose..
G. M.
Quick service, good beer and very friendly staff 👍👌😀
B. N.
A great place for breakfast and an alcoholic apple juice, after kayaking.
G. O.
Nice food with a great kids play area. Only have been here for lunch so don't know what the night atmosphere is like.
A. K.
Lovely meal here staff very friendly extremely relaxing place to eat
M. C.
Menu was due to be changed so disappointingly the management felt it appropriate to close the pub at 8oclock in the evening for a bit of staff training.
So you now know the customer don't come first.
P. B.
We went there on christmas day for dinner the food was lovely and hot and tasted delicious. The staff were all really cheerful and dressed very smart.a completely relaxing atmosphere thanks to all at the hope and anchor xxc
S. R.
We really enjoyed our meals there and went back again the next day. And so cosy...drinks a bit pricey xx
K. C.
Was nice food but portion sizes seem a bit small compared to other hungry horse pubs. Was much better value for money at the charnwood arms.
P. B.
I like it here. Good food at great prices. Nice location and a very good pint of real ale.
K. H.
Food was lovely and the pub is in an ideal location however it really could do with being renovated it's absolutely awful inside.
A. W.
Always love coming here, been coming since i was a kid and still is very good, its a small pub but its a good pub, especially after a nice walk round watermead and down the canals
J. T.
Great food, good size portions. Great staff. Lovely canal side pub. Great prices and offers.
S. C.
Family breakfast was brill great value and great service
B. C.
Food was mediocre, Had tikka masala, frozen chicken, dry rice, and nigh on burnt onion barges, my son had sausage which were obviously cooked same way as my onion barges, Brother in law ordered a apple juice which had mould floating in bottom of the glass, And place could do with a deep clean, even the toilets were filthy, Only plus is lovely location by the canal.
H. J.
Lovely place, great food and good lager served by very pleasant staff
We visit regular. Thanks
J. W.
Great food. Good table service. 👌
M. 1.
Great place to eat with great food, nice view of the canal opposite. Only problem is that sometimes it's so busy the wait for food is ridiculous.

B. D.
It's a very friendly pub, restaurant, come here often, food yummy nice environment, and staff are very friendly and helpful 👍
D. B.
This pub could do with a make over, the service is ok,the food in general is average except for the grill section -don't bother with the sirloin steak unless you bring your own liquidiser - it's tough!
D. T.
Food fantastic service is fantastic great value for money lovely family pub. Would definitely recommend it to anyone.
J. B.
