Reviews of The Griffin Inn

Stopped off for Sunday Lunch and a pint during a walk. Food was lovely. Servers were extremely friendly and attentive. Food arrived very promptly. A nice atmosphere. Took a while to pay, drinks were missing from the bill and had to ask for these to be added. Would definitely return.
N. D.
Attended a wedding there. The venue room was very nice and well presented, ideal for a relatively small wedding. The staff were all very attentive and polite. Nice bar too, not a massive choice of beers but enough. Not too expensive either !
M. C.
My family had a really very nice Meal here on Saturday. We have a wide range of preferences but all of us found multiple things we would enjoyed & all enjoyed what we decided on. Extremely well prepared and presented. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. We will definitely be visiting again.
D. E.
Only popped in as we were visiting the Deli, bit were greeted with a warm welcome. Ended up having a cheeky pint and a bite to eat. All of which were yummy. We'll definitely be back for a proper meal soon. 👍🏻

It is a beautiful place, food was served quickly, portions were large and it was very tasty, customer service was A*, waiters/waiteresses are very polite and attentive.
Plenty of tables available inside and outside, and all tables are cleaned and sanitised after people leave to make it ready for next customers.
They serve a good and tasty selection of warm drinks, e.g. hot chocolate, cappuccino, latte, mocha.
J. P.
Close to my heart. Both my kids had there christening party there. Beer's good and reasonable priced. John and all the staff are professional and polite.
My favourite drinking hole around the Loughborough area.

I love this pub it has a great ambiance, food is always really nice and portion size is great also. Service is always very good. This pub is really nice in the spring summer with its conservatory

First time and not our last!
Booked for Easter lunch after a walk after Swithland woods.
The old Gentlemen welcomed us when walking in.
We ate outside the court yard. Food was good kids felt at home.
We will be back soon!
J. H.
The place is old and traditional, with a nice atmosphere.
Good inside and outside seating available.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
The food was really nice with a good selection on the menu.
They have a good drink selection although a few more ales might be nice.
I'd go again.
C. W.
Very popular pub with outdoor seating and restaurant. The men's toilet was immaculate.
L. H.
We booked 25 people for lunch and the meals were enjoyed by all. Staff very friendly and helpful
J. S.
Absolutely fantastic. Great staff, very professional and the meals are simply outstanding. Thoroughly recommended!!
M. W. H.
Went for a Sunday lunch, it was quite busy so worth booking if you can. The service was great, very friendly & professional staff. Food was delicious, some really nice beef (slightly pink which was perfect) with all the trimmings. Wine we had was lovely also. Large covered outside area too. Dogs are allowed in the bar or outside area, they gave us some water for the dog & even some dig biscuits. Would highly recommend & we will be going back.
L. C.
Nice ambiance, great staff. Menu was limited, portions are too small, the food itself was tasty and well cooked.
S. B.
Good village pub with a modest bar area. Cozy, traditional food and reasonable selection of beers, gin etc. Great outside covered area after a walk with the dog you can see out under patio heaters and enjoy your favourite tipple without worrying about the rain or the lack of tables inside.
a. b.
Lovely venue with beautiful tranquil views.
Staff made us feel very welcome.
Thank you.
R. T.
This is a very nice pub that is an excellent place for parties or a meal or just a drink in a pleasant atmosphere, the staff are very friendly and helpful, thank you.
v. s.
Lovely atmosphere, good food _ only one criticism - pork belly beautifully tender but far too much salt on crackling, lots of water needed!
J. P.
Fantastic old pub. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Great food and drink.
L. G.
The staffs was very friendly, clean and neat place. Foods was fantastic! P.S. I love how they put chips in a tray that looks like a little trolley, classic. Put a smile on my face :-D
M. A.
Nice pub. Always a pleasure to visit. Car show first Monday of the month is nice
N. A.
Brilliant atmosphere, friendly staff and most of all delicious food 👍
M. C.
The Stables.... Beautiful venue for a wedding ❤️
Huge area at the back for kids to run and play
Lovely happy, friendly staff also
J. P.
First time visiting this beautiful place and it wont be the last. Sunday lunch was absolutely devine 😍
A. M.
Beautiful pub, really busy with the Morris Men on Boxing Day, so quite a festive atmosphere. Plenty of people keeping old traditions alive.
R. A.
I’ve been to the Griffin Inn a few times over the last 10+ years.
The staff are lovely and I had The Big One burger.
It was one of the best burgers I’ve had, I was stuffed at the end, and would recommend it 100%.
c. s.
Had the most amazing evening, food was so nice, and the waiter was lovely.
B. C.
Never fails us. Sunday dinner today was absolutely delicious, staff were wonderful as always. Really lovely and our go-to place for a special meal out.
J. H.
Service wasn't very antentive despite not being busy.
I had the tandoori chicken burger. It was a little bland.
The online menu seemed very different to what was available on the day. We went to the restaurant based on the online menu which was a shame.
Having said all this, it wasn't bad and I'd return again. The pub has a lovely setting and we sat outdoors in a covered area. Very picturesque.
Just some minor improvements would have made this 4*
S. H.
Have been here 3 times over a couple of years. Excellent service from all. For fresh good home cooked Sunday lunches it's a great place to dine out at. Make sure you go in hungry as the portions are huge!
L. R.
Called in for a drink and a snack, very busy but good quick service...
A. B.
Lovely local pub with Everards beer and a few guest ale, plus classic pub food
C. G.
Surprised and pleased. Great meal with very good staff. Will definitely return.
S.
Popped in for a pint on the way through the village. The outside seating area is gorgeous, the ale and Guinness were well kept, ans the staff were friendly and helpful.
Hopefully well get the chance to go for a meal and check out the food because the dishes served on the adjoining tables looked and smelt lovely
C.
Its run by nice people and therefore is an easy going country pub with good food
D.
Beautiful old world pub in a lovely picturesque village let down by two main issues which are; 1. it's extremely expensive and 2. some of the staff either ignore you or treat you with utter disdain. Having said that, the older gentleman that served us at the rear of the pub could not have been more friendly and helpful, it's because of him that I've given 3 stars instead of 1. If the other staff (especially the young guy in the front bar) had the same attitude as the gent who served and chatted to us, we'd definitely return. However, when you're paying in excess of £10 for 2 pints and being ignored by the majority we certainly can't justify coming back.
D. A.
Wonderfully rustic country pub and delicious grub to boot.
D. A.
Lovely atmosphere. Open fires. I said open fires. Traditional old country pub but at the same time very modern. Always a great welcome and great service and great selection of beers. Food dam good aswell.
r.
Me and the wife Went for a meal and it was spot on. Food was delicious. Wife had a pasta dish and I had slow pulled pork with a side of chips. Chips never came after asking 3 times. Other than the chipsgate the food was delicious and will definitely return.
C. C.
Lovely evening with fabulous food and great service
R. S.
Generally ok, but ignored when we got there, the tiger was served too warm, but it was a very hot day, when it was served the young waiter held the glass at the top so his fingers were where my lips would be, such an easy thing not to do, but so often done, especially in a pandemic. Food was very good, desert from the special board was awesome.
D. K.
Great food and nice beer in a lovely atmosphere.
A. “. D.
The old stables are amazing. Such a lovely place to good a wedding
D. P.
Food was lovely and staff were friendly and helpful. It was a very busy night, and service was good but the pub needs to think of a better way to take food orders on busy nights as people were queuing in amongst the tables and normally this would not of bothered me in the slightest and I probably wouldn't have noticed, but during these really odd times when we are supposed to be distancing it felt a bit unnerving. Other than that, great food and perfect location.
E. L.
Some dishes were nice, but a bit of a disappointment for the price...
S. S.
Staff were very friendly and attentive, sad to see some of them not being treated well by customers complaining about social distancing systems at the pub, we all need to be a bit more patient! Vegan fish and chips and vegetarian paella were tasty. Nice atmosphere for outdoor seating, would certainly recommend Griffin Inn.
R. K.
Excellent food in general and good, unobtrusive service.
R. P.
Beer garden is quaint with lots of greenery, portion sizes were large.
E. L.
Lovely food and lovely beer, however the lack of COVID precautions just made me feel uncomfortable unfortunately. None of the staff followed any social distancing or wore masks. When eating outside to be safe you have to go inside to order which just increases the risk... sorry guys, will be back when everything has calmed down a bit!
L. G.
Amazing place!
Came here for a well-deserved meal after a long walk through Swithland Wood.
Fantastic food, service with a smile - very courteous, professional and attentive. Loved the scenery, the décor and even the dinnerware.
Will definitely come here again, hopefully soon.
P. B.
Great evening good food had to gee them up for service slow on waiting for order but music and band should do this each year well done Ron and his band very informative talk as well.
J. C.
Service was amazing - all staff very attentive and food was good but would've liked a little more beef (with less grissle).
S. F.
We went there for new years eve with a party of 8 . The buffet was excellent.everyone rated this
The dj and music all night was just brilliant we could not fault it. The dance floor had ample dancing space and the stables venue at the griffin was really festive and spacious. Mixed age group was the right balance. What a great night for £20 per person. Highly recommend for next year
E. L.
Lovely meal served by very pleasant staff all covid regulations in place . Ate outside under a lovely spacious canopy.word of advice be early if you want the fish ...
G. J.
This pub has been very variable over the years, but currently the management are switched onto the kind of clientele that drink and eat here. The current menus, while not expensive, are providing excellent food at very reasonable prices. The range of beer on tap is equally very good and not too pricey. I plan on visiting this pub regularly and would recommend others to do likewise
A. M.
Lovely place, nice staff who couldn't do enough
C. B.
The food is incredible. The most amazing Sunday lunch out we have had in years. Staff were amazing for my husbands birthday. Went above and beyond. Lovely atmosphere and can't wait to come here again. Blew us away. The prices are very reasonable some choices more expensive than others but the food is cooked to perfection and absolutely worth it! Children's meals were very generous portions and my children thoroughly enjoyed it.
T. H.
We had an excellent meal and great service. I would have given it five stars but there was an issue with my son's pizza, it was only a child's margarita and it was really spicy. If you like spicy it was a great homemade pizza. I can't fault the service and the apology from the chef and we would definitely go back.
G. B.
Lovely pub, excellent food, recommend the ploughman's if your hungry!!
J. H.
We had a wonderful afternoon, and the afternoon tea was delicious,a birthday treat from my Granddaughter and her husband.
G. J.
My game pie was OK but nothing special. For my taste it was a bit fatty and wasn't gamey and no gravey! But the rest of my party's meals were lovely and the level of service excellent. Puddings were also very nice. So, a lovely pub in a lovely area with good service and food....will go back :-)
M. S.
Lovely country pub. Lovely location, great beer garden you can also hear the steam trains sometimes from the great central line. I've not eaten here but looks nice, they have a dinning area overlooking the fields behind. I go for a drink once a month in the summer. Nice selection of ciders, I have different guest ciders every time I go.
H. A.
Lovely staff, amazing food and great service
Would definitely recommend eating here
R. W.
My family were invited to a wedding reception here last weekend. The room was large enough for the 70 guests to all be seated. In fairness the weather was awful when we first got there so we couldn't take advantage of the excellently kept grounds. The hor d'ouevres were very good and served well. The room is airy with a great view and is very clean. Decor is tasteful and impressive throughout. The sit down three course meal was really top quality. There were photos taken outside after, as the weather brightened up. The garden is really nice and would be an massive asset if the weather was better. Later, the buffet was also excellent. The staff were courtious, friendly and professional throughout and seemed to be the same few who looked after us all day. Drinks choice was extensive and although the bar was small there wasn't much waiting time as the staff were rotating to suit needs. I thought the Griffin was an excellent venue and would have no reservations in recommending to others.
I. W.
Pleasant, comfortable and good choices.
C. K.
I am all for showing gratitude for groups of people who we appreciate and offer a discount. However, why not start with the lowest paid ? Teachers have suffered zero financial losses during Coronavirus, some have not even worked (myself included whilst on full pay) and start off on over £25K a year. Sorry but so many groups are on minimum wage in shops, care homes? refuse collection, cleaners and yet teachers are seen as needing a discount? Nice gesture but PROFESSIONALS EARN ENOUGH. Perhaps you feel the groups mentioned are not wanted in your venue ?? RE Reply. I say again your credibility would be higher if you'd started with lower paid less professional workers. I am absolutely serious, our society is bursting with public sector workers paid to do nothing. I KNOW I AM 1.
O. R.
Food really good, service really good but got 2 lager and lime and was charged 80p extra for cordial which is a bit out of order
R. H.
Fantastic Sunday lunch & a great portion
T. T. (.
My short stop is not enough to judge, but suffice to say,I will be going back.👍🏻
C. B.
We came here after a long walk in Bradgate Park on a cold November day as we wanted to find somewhere nearby for an early dinner.
After looking at a couple of nearby pub menu's we found the griffin inn to be the most interesting and diverse, with a mixture of English classics as well as the more exotic.
When we arrived ,the place was nice and warm and the staff were also warm and welcoming.
The dinner menu starts at 5:30pm but we arrived at about 4:40pm, however the staff were brilliant in cooking the main menu meals for us early.
I had the lambs liver , mash and veg doused in a rich gravy which was very delicious!
The wine was good and fairly priced too.
2 main meals, 2 medium wines and a hot chocolate came to £34 which I thought was very reasonable.
The place can be quiet if you prefer somewhere with more atmosphere but I was happy with the quiet and the background music.
All in all , I'd definitely go back and try out the other meals after another long afternoon walk in the country park .👌🏽
A. B.
Lovely place, had a nice meal, dog friendly. Highly recommend.
P. P.
Absolutely fantastic visit to this pub.
Looks beautiful, staff are warm and friendly with a good selection of ales.
Food was great, lunch for two with really good vegan options.
Highly recommend. 6*
D. J.
The food was beautifully cooked with generous servings. Not a vast choice for New Years Eve but enough for the fussiest diner. The staff were lovely. Nothing was too much trouble for them and our two grandsons were treated like royalty. Will definitely go to the Griffin again.
I. R.
Had an event here last month. Everyone had a fantastic time. Food was fantastic, notably the soup starter. Everything was hot and fresh, even for 60+ guests. Lovely outside area and they were very accomodating for our needs. Massive thank you to all the staff.
J. L.
We hired their large function room and garden at the rear for a client event. The function room is fantastic, beautifully designed and spacious and leads onto the large rear lawn where we had pre lunch drinks. The lunch buffet was very very good with well prepared and served food.
T. D.
Not sure I want to mention this pub, otherwise everyone will want to use it. This is a traditional English pub with a warm welcoming atmosphere. Set in the historic area of Woodhouse Eaves and Swithland. On a wet and cold winters day there are log fires burning in different rooms. There is beer of all types ready to be sampled, nicely kept and conditioned. The menu provides variety enough for all. It can cater for parties down to couples. The staff are friendly and welcoming.
M. C.
I had a fabulous time here at a friends 70th surprise Birthday Party. The staff were wonderful. They were helpful, polite and very professional without being over bearing. I would highly recommend this venue not only because of the excellent staff but the beautiful building and the welcoming atmosphere both inside and out.
D. B.
Very 'ok' beautiful setting and lovely period bar and lounge area. Restaurant in the back was a little bit underwhelming. Food was decent but nothing exciting. Based on price and other reviews I was expecting better. But that's not to say anything was 'wrong' with anything. Staff were great. Very friendly.
K. W.
What a lovely Valentine's evening we had. Delicious food, lovely staff. The entertainment from singer Polly and guitarist was superb. It created the right ambience for the evening. Well done to all the staff at The Griffin, particularly those who where working in the stables on Valentine's night.
r. c.
1st time visiting this establishment and it was so pleasant. Lovely staff and well explained with the new system. A very nice garden too. I look forward to visiting again.
P. K.
A warm welcome any time of year, there is the restaurant, cafe or food in the bar. A roaring fire in the winter and wonderful setting for weddings or events. The staff are amazing, very helpful and always happy to greet you.
A. E.
Lovely Lunch.
Went here for a quick Lunch on a warm day and pleasantly pleased.
This is a very quiet and nice place to have a bite or a drink or two.
The Menu offers a variety of foods (but not over cumbersome), all at a reasonable price.
Recommended to anyone!
A. C.
Had lunch on a midweek day. Good efficient service, found the menu very limited and overly complicated. Table was sticky too.
B. T.
Lovely pup with a great atmosphere. Nice food and a great selection of beers and ale. This is a countryside pub with open fires and a historic feeling, in an area full of beautiful buildings and cottages.
A. P.
The Griffin is situated in the lovely village of Swithland in the Charnwood forest. The gastro-pub has a nice old-world feel to it, and a welcoming atmosphere. There is an excellent, well visited restaurant in the pub which is spacious and serves a wide range of English food to meet most tastes. There is also a beautiful and spacious function room at the rear of the property, which caters for all kinds of events, and has ready access to the rest of the pub and bar areas. The staff are attentive and keen to please, with good service and a warm welcome. The pricing is what you would expect for an excellent place with good food. Well worth checking out their web site, which has full details of their menus and facilities. Highly recommended!
D. B.
Nice setting ,great outdoor dining .only complaint ordered starter and main plus drinks
Starter and drinks came quickly. But after 50 min main had not arrived had to go and check .apparently main order had been missed .very tasty when it finally came after 1 hour wait
G. M.
Food was very nice. I had the bbq wings for starter and bbq burger for main. The only thing I'd say is the food is slightly overpriced, they try to make the price justified by great service but I'd rather the food just be slightly better. Chips were nothing special, neither was the presentation. Nice place to eat but for 12.50 for a burger and chips I'd expect better.
G. S.
A very tasty and enjoyable lunch. The brisket and gorgonzola baguettes were delicious. The roaring log fire and friendly staff added to the welcoming ambience. We shall return!
m. f.
Great food ,a warm friendly atmosphere and great surroundings .
M. A. P.
Fantastic place, service, staff food and drink would highly recommend and will definitely be returning in future
B. B.
Food was incredible and the totty second to none
J. S.
We had our wedding at The Old Stables last month and I cannot say thank you enough to Naomi and the team-you really did help make our day perfect :) The help and advice when planning was so appreciated, the venue looked amazing, the food was all so delicious (our guests have all been commenting on it), and we were all so well looked after! I would definitely recommend The Old Stables to anyone considering it for their wedding reception venue!
A. &. J. S.
Lovely place to eat. The staff are very professional and helpful. We've eaten there on a few occasions now and have never been disappointed. Highly recommended.
L. R.
Delicious food, excellent service. Mugs were also a highlight of the experience, very pretty.
R. P.
Great venue, nice food, friendly and professional staff
Highly recommended
H. O.
Nice country pub which serves traditional British food mainly. Pub set out in a number of small cosy rooms and larger restaurant/event room when busy. Courtyard at rear of pub provides suntrap in summer and sheltered seating in winter. Large car park at rear of pub.
M. F.
Lovely homely pub with tasty food and a roaring fire.
A. D.
Great location for a wedding reception
S. C.
Lovely outdoor dining area. Good food including vegan option.
A. M.
Very pleasant outdoor seating area. Good food. Excellent chips.
F. W.
Nice food and place. We've booked our wedding there. Just needs better communication at times
A. S.
Been visiting the Griffin for years, my favourite pub. It's not perfect, largely because they are a victim of their own success in my opinion. Very busy on occasions, but lovely atmosphere every time.
J. C.
Early Thursday lunchtime for a shandy and a sandwich. Food not particularly cheap but excelent. Sat outside as it was a mild day. Very pleasant. Inside is cosy in the bar areas. Great if you get a seat but does get busy .
Expanding with a large function room, restaurant and garden but still works well as a country pub.
Think black labrador rather than jack Russell though either is possible.
M. W.
Great food and great environment. Staff are always helpful.
R. F.
I attended a work event here. I'm vegan and had a mushroom risotto. I'm not sure if this is on their menu as we pre-ordered. Best risotto I ever tasted was well seasoned and tasty. Highly recommend
E. T.
A must go to pub after a long walk in Swithland woods.
H. V.
Went to a birthday lunch in the function room on saturday . Food was excellent and really good service throughout the meal . Staff were helpful and polite . Would definitely reccomend for any celebration .
c. o.
The food was very nice. Great dinners. The bar entrance, kitchen and exit where all a bit close to each other and a bit of bump zone though.
S. H.
Food was absolutely amazing here. The Bradgate venison is highly recommend!! Great atmosphere and everything came out on time. Had come with the thought of not having a dessert....that soon changed when we saw the menu!
S. C.
First time we've been back since our daughters wedding reception here in December '19. Food was lovely again.
J. D.
Great traditional British pub.
s. r.
Popped in for a catch up and a bar snack with family , never been before but found the staff friendly and welcoming, the food we had was great and a good selection of ales(everards). Was a windy winters day so the fire was on and all was well. will visit again
R. A.
Friendly staff, quick service, good food. Baby changing facilities were nice and clean!
G. H.

Friendly staff and tasty French Dip baguette - the gravy was delicious and very moreish. (Tip: large enough portion to share between 2)
R. B.
Very nice, stout excellent. I had the sausage trio. They specially made a vegan risotto! Top marks
L. J.
Nice place, great setting but the drinks are very over priced and served poorly. £5.30 for a pint which was served in a warm glass and quite flat.
A. J.
Lovely place to go for a meal with the family, or just have a drink. Very nice surroundings, and environment.
N. J.
Very good service, quality food and a lovely old pub in a wonderful setting, well worth a visit.

Food was good but service not quite right. Place was empty and the beams gave a fake look - not sure it would be a good pub for just a drink
A. P.
Good place for small parties
S. C.
Drinks bit on pricey side but very cosy and food was good. Staff were excellent.
M. K.

Lovely food, great takeaway service, nice NHS discount, will be using again.
J. B.
I really like the Griffin. It's a good walking distance from my house, the food is good and the staff are friendly. It's not cheap, but its charnwood; nowhere is cheap.
K. K.
Wonderfull traditional English restaurant with lots of typical English dishes on the menu in a very old cottage full of character. Definitely give it a try.
N. S.
Delightful Inn serving a range of good ales and fab food! Great outside space for the summer. Warm and cosy in winter.
a. p.

L. H.
Good "country" pub with food, specialising in roasts etc. Good choice for Sunday lunch. Large function room available.
F. I.
An excellent spot for lunch, the baguettes are excellent! Service could be a bit better in terms of speed but staff are friendly.
