Reviews of The Salmon
M. B.
Friendly locals, extensive variety of ales, beautiful beer garden and plenty of decent screens to watch the game. By all accounts, The Salmon is what most pubs, anywhere in the U.K, should aspire to be. And I can see how it got there. The pub’s landlord, Alex, is incredibly sharp and witty person, he has a great bit of patter with the patrons and has an in depth knowledge on footy or cricket; in addition to that, it’s clear to see that he (and all the staff) are extremely hardworking people (and they make a mean hot pork bap n’all). We had a grand time. I’ll certainly be back, thank you very much for the warm hospitality and cheers to The Salmon!

Just 'bumped' into The Salmon whilst waiting for my coach (station is literally around the corner) - this place is the Dogs B - fantastic welcome, beers and regulars. After an hour felt like i knew most people in the pub. Alex is a brilliant host - one of the best pubs i have visited for a long time.
G. P.
Wonderful place, an unique Real Ale pub in Leicester, which offer the most unique and tasty local beers you can find!
Nice and chilled environment, where talking to your mates while enjoying a good beer is still possible...Highly recommended.. PS: I love it!

First came across this gem of a pub after we played a gig there, but made sure I returned a few days later as I'd enjoyed it so much. Cracking beer, friendly atmosphere and a lovely team behind the bar. Proper pub!
M. M.
As a tourist i look to get away from the normal tourist venues. This is a good no gimmicks good drink at fair prices pub- that's not code for basic or rough it's neither of those things. Friendly staff and regulars
J. H.
Not been here for a few years as moved out of the city. Popped into to watch the Tigers. Had a great selection of stouts, & light beers, that were kept in first class condition. I will always return for a cheeky one when in Leicester.
A. H.
Great real ale pub. Really good selection of ales and very friendly service
B. D.
Great drinkers pub, choice of good beers. Clean tidy, Great staff.
P. B.
If you want a good quality real ale and an authentic pub experience, this is the only place to go in the city
K. E.
A great tradition black country real ale pub. Quite small with 2 moderate size TVs, it gets very busy on match days. Usually around 10 different ales on tap plus a couple of real ciders. Cold cobs available most days and hot ones on weekends. Small courtyard outside too.
C. C.
A proper pub, well managed with a range of good beers and some original features from when it was built. Worth a visit. Sandwiches/rolls available.
L. R.
My favourite friendly local pub, first time back for 2 years and a great afternoon spent practising darts and drinking good beer with work mates.
c. m.
This was my first visit to this pub and I'll definitely be coming back. A cosy homely feeling to the bar, great selection of ales and super friendly staff.
D. T.
Always a great range of beers in this historic pub full of decorative fittings from its Banks's days. Sometimes very busy!
V. A.
Not a place I wouldn't normally go to pubs like this but it isn't a bad hangout. Decent ale pub, friendly people and the bar staff are friendly. I've been here a few times with my dad.
J. M.
Decent pub here. Had a few beers here and enjoyed the garden
n. m.
A gem, a rarity, a proper town pub which has escaped the 'one size fits all' interior designers of the greedy pub companies. This proper ale house operates as a free house and is committed to keeping it as it should be with all emphasis on the ales, of which there were 12 when I visited. The beer I sampled was great, and the perfect compliment to the cheese and onion cob I purchased with it. A fantastic old pub, I shall be back, well done to all the staff, you were great also.
R. L.
Old fashioned pub with a great selection of well kept beers. Friendly staff. Well worth a visit
j. d.
Nice 'local' style of pub in the city centre, although tucked away in a secluded spot.
A very good selection of continuously changing beers.
G. W.
Totally A1+++. Superbly run by Alex and his team. Cracking 12 ale selection. Fair prices.
A MUST visit.
O. B.
Beesst pub in Leicester. Great lamidlord, great beer top drawer

Lovely atmosphere, a good old fashioned pub with a great selection of ales and cider with fresh cobs behind the bar.

What a oasis in a desert. Fantastic real ales pub. Plenty of ale to go at, a nice friendly atmosphere. My must visit place in Leicester.

Great pub , excellent beers and a warm welcome.
R. S.
Cosy hidden gem - lovely pub with a seated outdoor area. Excellent and friendly staff and Covid secure. Had a fab evening and hope to visit again soon. Spoiled for choice with such a wide range of drinks, and knowledgeable bar staff on hand to advise.
M. H.
Always a nice friendly atmosphere in this pub, friendly staff too, with a fantastic choice of real ales and ciders, I love it.
J. F.
A traditional Victorian corner pub with modern customer service. Plenty of great beer, gin and whiskey to choose from and an excellent selection for vegans too. Expect a friendly welcome and a chilled out atmosphere. The beer garden is a beautiful hidden gem. 5 minutes walk from the bus station or the highcross shopping centre.
A. P.
Lovely, chilled vibe. Great selection of beers.
B. M. H.
Good pub with a nice range of beers and plenty of space. I visited on a Friday night and there were people on one side of the bar watching football whilst the other side of the bar were enjoying chats at each table. Great atmosphere and conveniently located near the bus station for a swift half. Also, there cobs looked decent for £2. Looking forward to visiting again!
M. T. D.

Nostalgia, we used to hang out here to watch rugby and enjoy boerewors rolls.. that was 10-15 years ago. The new owner is a vibrant bloke who's game on to host similar future events again. The Salmon is an old place filled with long memories & I'm glad to be a part of it's history. Long may it serve the community and it's well worth a visit and a seat in the summer garden sunshine or cosied up inside..
K. C.
Alex, Mitch, Phil, Kane, Ollie and his pub are a credit to the Leicester pub scene .. ✊🍺

S. M.
Great array of beers in a great cosy pub
C. S.
A real gem of a pub hidden away from the business and the idiots of town.
A real ale drinkers paradise with something for every pallett. Not eaten yet but menu looks simple and tempting
Also Scotch eggs cobs and sausage rolls available at the bar.
Big rugby pub too
Very family friendly, I would love to have it as my local
t. s.
Little traditional pub in an area of Leicester that's improving. Some good ciders to try but not really the place to go to impress someone. Great to go with mates etc for a cheeky pint. Or a game of darts etc
M. P.
More of a village pub in the town. Great range of traditional ales and ciders, pork pies, scotch eggs, various cobs, sunny beer garden, under cover smoking room, everything you need. Staff very attentive and friendly.
T. L.
Welcoming cosy public house located just off the City centre. Excellent selection of beers - both Black Country brewery's own and guest real beers. Not disabled accessible as steps at both entrances. No disabled toilet. Good selection of pub grub - pork pies and filled cobs as well as hot meals. Welcoming and friendly bar staff.
No CAMRA discount but has own discounts on certain Black Country brewery beers at certain times (displayed in pub).
No car park but on-street parking available locally.
L. H.
First time out since Feb 2020, felt very strange but it was very well organised and friendly. Sat outside in the garden which was lovely x

Has the usual beers (BFG, Fireside etc) plus several guests.
Bee seems to be kept well so well worth a visit!
L. M.
Very friendly welcoming pub set in a busy city centre but without the horrid rowdy busy city centre feel! Lovely home cooked food and a nice cosy partly covered outdoor garden seating area.
M. W.
This is an absolute gem of a pub! Fabulous choice of nice ales & ciders, friendly landlord, great pork pies or rolls, nice atmosphere: should be on everyone's pub crawl list, or even just a place to head to!
Cheers!
M. C.
Very nice clean pub, beer great, lovely cheese and onion cob,, toilets beautiful and clean, bar man very welcoming and pleasant, will definitely be going there again,
😀
B. R.
If you used to go to the Swan And Rushes for its ale selection, then try a visit to the good old Swan. Much less spit 'n sawdust than in the bad old years, it now has decent furnishings, a mixed clientèle and a wide range of great beers. Shame it's on the other side of town, but it's still convenient for buses.
G. B.
A proper pub in the middle of town, definitely worth a visit. Nice atmosphere friendly staff, and close to the bus station if you've just missed your bus!
R. T.
An excellent place for a wide variety of ales, ciders or if you want a quick pint that doesn't leave you skint. Close to the Highcross Shopping Centre and St Margarets Bus Station
