Reviews of Anchor Bankside
N. Y.
One of my favourite pubs I’ll always come here once a while really fantastic place to come. The pub have good food and drinks just perfect place to stay with family or friends.
W. o.
Great place for beer and delicious food near to the river! Recommend for everyone when who stay in London! 👌
A.
One of the best located pubs around, short walk from a few stations, Borough Market, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, The Tate Modern, and the list goes on.
So if you are visiting the area, and fancy a drink in a pub with a bit of history, The Anchor is probably the place for you. William Shakespeare and Samuel Pepys are supposed to have drank here, and is it really surprising given the view is probably as good, if not better than it was hundreds of years ago!
Outside seating is available but given its winter at the time of this review and the blisteringly cold wind rattles down the Thames we sat inside in the warm. Seating can be a bit tough for choice in these conditions as everyone had the same idea as us.
A pre-booking elsewhere prevented us from eating, however catching a glimpse of the pies they were serving surely means I'll be back for a visit when I'm in the area next.

Stopped in here after ac long walk from Hammersmiths, to Westminster, back down the south bank. Delicious steak, and the people were the friendliest.
Definitely coming back here! They deserve more than 5 stars

Super fun Monday night pub quiz with Joe!
Delicious food, too! Had the fried chicken burger with a few onion rings ( light, crispy perfection) and chips. Portion size was just right. Staff are friendly and professional. Overall, another great experience at the Anchor Bankside.

Booked out a table for the afternoon to play board games with some friends. The staff was lovely and accommodating.
Really nice for space and the atmosphere. There are lots of different rooms each with a small bar so while it's easy to get lost- you can go with a group of any size and feel like you're tucked away in a cozy pub or get a view of the river. Never had to wait long to eat served even when it got busy. Will definitely go back

Lovely staff and quick service but uncertain about quality of food and drink...
I ordered battered halloumi which came out of the kitchen within 5 minutes! It was soggy and undercooked and I could not finish the dish.
I also ordered a £4 glass of lemonade which was flat and tasted cheap. Funnily enough, this arrived 5 minutes after my food.

Very pleasant Riverside pub. Decent in size with outside bar. Prices as expected for the area. Food was good. Tom cruise filmed mission impossible at this pub.
I. B.
Food is good, nice atmosphere and fast service. Quite empty on a Tuesday night. The beer...not so nice, according to my bf
L. H.
Wonderful pub located on the Bankside of the Thames, a stones through away from London Bridge Station, a quick walk from Borough Market with St Paul’s in the foreground. Very busy inside when we visited (on a Saturday afternoon) so we had drinks on the terrace overlooking the river (next door to Nando’s).. Good atmosphere (with a live band) and plenty of chatter and buzz in the air.. Little pop up bar on the terrace. Drink choice ok. Think I paid £6.50 for a plastic pint cup of lager - but that’s quite typical pricing for London, so all in all a great visit. They had free Wi-Fi and reportedly clean toilets on our visit as well. They may have also served food, but we didn’t have any. The one staff we did come into contact with was friendly enough and service was quick. Would return in the not-so-distant future!!
D. W.
...classic pub atmosphere inside a well-maintained and beautiful old building dating back to the early 1600s.
M. L.
This review is for Michael and the staff who were excellent. I say this because we had a bad experience on our final visit to the pub which was nothing to do with the general team. Michael is exemplary in his focus on customer service and is a credit to Green King. He made us feel so welcome and made an effort every time we came into the pub. Disappointed with our last experience of this pub but don’t want this to detract from the general staff who were very good.
Thanks Mick & Shelagh

Came here for my graduation and brought my family of 9 for a meal and a drink. The staff was perfect with both my nans and grandads and really helped them when ordering, the food was one of the best we’ve had in London (big statement I know) and the location was outstanding. Would give this place more stars if I could.
N. V.
Food was very good. We all had the burgers. That was what we really enjoyed.
But the way things are set up is very strange- at least for us being Americans, we'd not seen this before. We had no idea that you had to order at the small bar. To get there were stairs & no actual servers. To order you need to stand in line- drinks, food, etc. Was not thrilled with that especially since there's no way to know that unless you've been there before. No signs at all. We guessed after sitting a while and seeing people go back to their table with drinks. I was glad I noticed a table number too. Need that to order. They at least bring you your food. But if you run out of drink you'll need to get that yourself. It was different.
Also add that the workers there were very nice, but also very busy. Which is understandable because the food was worth going. SO I do recommend going but be aware of how you need to order and the info you need. I hope The Anchor decides to figure out a way to make ordering easier- even if it's electronically at the table, which would have been a good option even if you still needed to get drinks or pick up your drinks at the bar. I do think it could have helped things.
B. P.
We got the traditional fish&chips + pie and I think it was a great English experience. Also, the place is great!
B. B.
Lovely Greene King venue in a beautiful historic building with terraced nooks and crannies for small parties and lovers. Easy to fond a quiet space.. Near to the river with a roof top terrace for cracking sunny days, there is lots to like about this place. Service can be a bit slow, but as they say good things come to those who wait.
N. K.
Always like to visit here at any opportunity when in Central London. Lovely food as always, good menu choice. Staff very friendly and chatty.
T. D.
Great atmosphere, the pale ale was so refreshing, the G&Ts sublime. Inside looked great, but the thames side benches were the best, especially on a summer's day.
T. B.
Remarkably good Sunday roast. Would definitely recommend this place. Friendly staff and not too busy. Give it a try if you're visiting the Tate Modern or HMS Belfast!
s. J.
After ordering our food. Took a very long time to arrive. After checking a couple of times finally arrived. They did supply a round of drinks as an apology. I thought that was a good gesture. All said and done the food was very good we all enjoyed the generous potions. Thank you
S. J.
Fantastic place I really enjoy it here and the drinks are fantastic. The staff are exceptionally great and super friendly. The whole establishment is well kept and very clean including the toilets. The drinks aren't overly expensive and after sitting a while time can soon fly. Worth a visit for sure!
M.
Arrived Hungry in London Late New Year's Day, luckily The Anchor was still serving food till 9p.m. Traditional Pub with Good pub menu.
Ordered on the App, 86'd items up to date on there, Good food, couple of pints outside on the Riverside after.
L. W.
Fantastic spot for a cosy pint on a Friday evening. It’s fun and loud and busy in the main bar. But you can go find a snuggly little spot in the snug for a quiet conversation too.
I also stupidly left my phone on the table and a wonderful stranger handed it in and staff held on it. So thanks very much!!
J. C.
Nice pub with friendly staff. Located near to the Tate modern and Shakespeare's globe.
A.
Nice pub along the riverside, great location as you can head of from there to multiple different locations.
It is unfortunately a bit pricy but that's because of the location I guess.
One thing that made it lose the 5 stars, the outside area is most of the times a bit of a mess, plastic glasses all over and even tho the waiters come and give you the drinks they don't pick up anything on their way back when the security guard did.
Overall yes, great place to go, worth giving it a try
P. C.
They are following the social distancing rules. It's a big pub in a very cool location. The staffs were polite. I ordered a hamburger and it was well done. They didn't ask me how I would like to be cooked. I like it medium. But it was good. Onion rings were fresh and it's a big meal. Its not the best burguer of my life, but it's good.
D. “. B. Y. C.
Fish in chips so good I came back in 2 days. Great staff, clean beer, and all by the river. Can't go wrong. You have a new patron!!!
l. b.
Good little spot by the river, with indoor seating arranged over 2 floors, a nice terrace on the 1st floor overlooking the river, and a separate outdoor seating area right next to the river. Good selection of drinks and bar snacks / pub grub.
J. L.
Great puz quiz hosted by Joe every Monday night. The food is good but often my first choice on the menu is unavailable. They haven't had the super green salad for 3 weeks in a row, so am taking a star off for that.
T. F.
Drinks and food by the river Thames in the heart of London. You pay for the view and location. Food is well priced and valued for the location. Great staff and good customer service 👍🏼
l. r.
Really beautiful pub overlooking the Thames. A tad expensive, but worth the experience
S. R.
Really nice pub for friends and family to visit. Friendly staff and with a good variety off foods and drinks. Beautiful location on the bank side(SE1) Worth the visit
J. G.
Lovely pub close to London Bridge and Borough Market, and overlooking the river. As welcoming in the summer as it is on a cold winter’s evening. Visit at Christmas for a festive ale or a glass of mulled wine. Busy and inviting in the evenings, full of atmosphere.
P. C.
We had an office Christmas dinner and were very well looked after. We all had a great time!
A huge thank you to Elmand and to Christa who found my mobile and kept it safe for me until I was able to go back and pick it up.
Thank you!
C. H.
Definitely catering to.more of a tourist crowd, I'll always happily call In for a pint if I'm walking past but it's not one of those pubs you just have to get to.
It looks brilliant and they have plenty of outside seating but this place can be very busy due to its Riverside location.
Definitely worth popping in for a pint if it's a little quieter and you're walking past.
A. E.
The Anchor is a great pub, which is or has become a popular tourist destination, but luckily it still retains its great character. We have visited this pub many times over the years and my family have stayed in the hotel which is part of it. The location is great, beers and other drinks are good and the food is lovely. If you can find yourself a seat there you will enjoy yourself. In terms of the food, I liked the deep fried Halloumi cheese as a vegetarian option for fish and chips
T. F. W.
One of the best spots in Southbank!! You can grab take away drinks and stay on the riverbank if you don't find a seat
R. W.
Fish and chips were good and a large portion. The sticky toffee pudding was amazing, option to have it with ice cream or with custard, and the custard was really great.
W.
The food was excellent. I came here yesterday with my girlfriend and we enjoyed the food. Food is a very reasonable price. The service was excellent and friendly. 10/10 I really look forward to coming back again when in the area.
D. L.
A cute pub with river views. They took a lot of care into making sure everything was sanitary and the young waiter offered us the table with the loveliest view. The food was whatever but the house wine was alright and it was an all around nice experience.
J. R.
Nice pub, food is good and the staff are friendly. £6.85 for a pint of icebreaker seems a lot to me considering its their own beer but i suppose it is London.
R. P.
Good for seating at happy hours, after a walk in the south bank of the river and have some drinks (only). You have great views of the city.
We ordered some Nachos in the external part, that were delivered in a paper box cold and without cutlery or napkins and it was not that good.
j. s.
Fabulous service, great food. Will definitely return our next visit to London.
R. R.
Had the christmas day lunch here. The place was very cozy and warm. Although we booked much in advance we got the table in the mezzanine floor and not the main area of the pub where all the christmassy decorations were there. Food was OK. Service was friendly.
V. G.
A nice Riverside pub by the river Thames. Visited for dinner on Sunday evening. Unfortunately limited dishes available. Food very good. Next time we go we will go upstairs tends to be less crowded
A. G.
Handy location to have a quick pint. It's not bad, there is an outdoor area as well. Lots of tourists, which isn't a bad thing plus often buskers outside. So a decent place but not much character.
P. S.
Lovely lively pub on the south bank, plenty of choices with food and drink, also different rooms to choose from, lively to quiet. Recommend if popping in for a drink or food
R. B. H.
The Anchor Bankside is a one of the favorite pubs south of the Thames. The present pub dates from the 1660s and 1770s, but a pub has been at this location since medieval times.
This is where Shakespeare got sloshed, Dickens Drank, and Samuel Pepys sat and watched the Great Fire of 1666 consume the City of London across the river (and wrote about it in his famous diary).
H. R.
Shakespeare used to write his plays and frequent here unfortunately nothing showing at the pub to reflect this. Its now a green king. Nice atmosphere; bit rowdy on a Saturday night, but good fun. Nice views from garden and they do food and Sunday lunch - advisable to book beforehand but didn't eat, so cannot comment on the food.
C.
Excellent service, very friendly staff and delicious Sunday roast served traditionally and well presented. Would recommend. Inside has a nice atmosphere, and good views from the upstairs part of the pub.
M. L.
Green King pub behind this great view. Really comfy pub, nice staff. Outside seating area with iconic views. Great pub.
d.
Nice pub, friendly welcoming staff, the chicken Sunday roast was lovely
L. M.
A fun pub right on the banks of the Thames. Luca, the manager, and Michael at the bar were delightful and attentive. The burger reminded me of backyard barbecue fare, the onion rings had a light, crispy coating, the macaroni cheese was gooey goodness. We enjoyed it thoroughly.
A. F.
Great place, nice food and decent prices. Nice to find a good old pub which isn't trying to be something it is not
K.
Great service. Busy but staff were still friendly and helpful. Drinks are reasonably priced too. A great stop off with amazing views.
T. P.
So glad we found this pub. Was some of the best traditional English food I've had. Love the history of the place which adds to the atmosphere. They make a great vegan mushroom and ale pie with amazing gravy.
k. C.
We just were passing by and we decided to go for drinks! The staff welcome us, and give us a table, then Explain the covid rules. The food was good, super hamburgers, the waited was friendly. Sitting outside we get a good view from the river and the bridge. For sure we recommend this place.
s. h.
We had a great evening, food was spot on ( gormet burger for my partner, fried chicken and bacon burger for myself) very reasonably priced! atmosphere was lovely, all staff very attentive and to top it off was a fire eating show..What's not to love! 👍🏼
K. S.
Very unique pub on the river. The many many rooms and levels give it a magical ship like feel and the balcony and outdoor area have great views of the river. I would highly recommend for anyone looking for an atmospheric pint in the area
S. M.
Only had coffee, but can refill your cup 👍, lovely location and lovely atmosphere. Can imagine it's a buzzing place to be later in the day.
R. M.
This was quite a surprise. Massive place! With a cool old harbour vibe, great view of the London and Millenium bridges from the balcony. Food is quite well served and have sitting on a beer garden. Great to stop during a walk by the Thames.
D. T.
A very pleasant riverside pub with brick and dark wood interior. A Greene-King pub with a lively selection of beers, both cask and keg. Good selection of English pub food at a good price. The building has plenty of "crooks and nannies" to explore. Nice place for a stop if you are on the south bank of the river. Also, reputed to be a haunt of Samuel Pepyes in times past, no doubt the building will have had many incarnations since those days.
A. S.
Best pies in London! Thank you!!!! Was a great pleasure to visit you again. See you in April!
G. J.
It's ok. Only been in there for drinks. Staff affable but the bar service when a bit busy rather shambolic- with one of the staff seemingly completely untrained. Quite noisy but with good atmosphere for the younger drinkers.
A. B. (.
My parents love it , every time they come visit from Italy we have to go there and I have to admit is one of my favourite pubs on the river too. Easy to get to, food is good and fairly priced with the portions they serve. Good selection of beer and plenty of seating area on 3 levels inside plus a rouf garden and a river veranda. This time I have to admit I was slightly dispainted by the burger size I got.. Good quality, tasty, well cooked and presented .. Just one negative point for me it was a Bit small to be rated ad priced as the biggest burger they serve. Just saying it cos if you hungry u might want to get 2!!
L. Z.
Lovely typical cosy London pub with good selection of pub grub at reasonable prices and a great view across the Thames to St Paul's.
A. L.
Fantastic location! It's right next to the Thames River. This pub is ancient and you will realise that before you even step foot inside. Also it's a big place with multiple floors and very traditional decor. Food, drink, desert it's all in here. It can get busy sometimes but there is so much space you can always find a spot. It's one of those pubs where you order food at the bar. I ordered a falafal burger with chips as that seemed like a good veggie option, but apart from that they had alot of traditional dishes like fish and chips etc. at Fair prices (for London). There is also a beer Garden, WiFi, Sky/BT sports, disabled facilities. There is alot going on in the immediate surroundings also, so I would recommend visiting.
N. P.
I went today at Lunch and was served by a lovely genuine lady on the terrace by the River Thames. The fish and Chips was excellent. The lasagne however looked nice but was salty too soft and was something I could imagine Gordon Ramsey having a nightmare with. Revise the squishy salty Lasagne please. Everything else was excellent.
B. E.
One of the oldest pubs in London, almost 4 centuries old! The food is good and the beer is great. The service is also quite good, although you have to order at the bar. They have plenty of room and tables, and a terrace too.
N. M. (.
Nice location and food was good (FYI no children's menu or portions available here) but disappointed at how much plastic waste there was. Everything was throwaway plastic when eating outside - boxes (don't get plates), cups and cutlery and with a large outside area that's a lot of waste.
E. W.
Have been here a few times now and it’s been great each time. My latest visit I was served by Alex, who was lovely and couldn’t do enough for us! I would highly recommend this pub.
S. h.
2 half pints of beer for £6.90. Completely OTT! Yes a pleasant view and a lovly setting but not a place to drink. I guess it's aimed at tourists and people with more money than sense.
S. B.
Traditional English pub tucked away in the heart of tourist London, a very pleasant surprise. Quaint interior and decent food at reasonable prices. The staff were very courteous and helpful. Very good indeed.
M. S.
Food was of good quality, although portion size was not the best. Service and wait time was pretty good. Worth going in. Nice place both in and outside.
l. o.
Lovely out, roof bar is really cool ,good river views, nice selection of beers, whether it's craft or more regular beers, great decor, not too bright , attentive staff
K. M.
Really nice nook to have a pint and watch the boats go down the Thames.
O. S.
Many tables, ordering through the app, tables are quiet close to each other, definitely not 2m probably even less than 1.5m. Service was quick and its possible to have some food too like hallumi cheese and chips
O. D.
Lovely pub next to the Thames and hood for a quick lunch and drink. Plus dog friendly
G. T.
Great place and menu.
S. S.
Great atmosphere, went there for quiz night and really enjoyed it, we're made to feel really welcome for people who were not local
I. P.
You can really feel the proper atmosphere of an old school english pub. It's in a brilliant location and the garden couldn't be in a better place, georgous views. Food tastes really good and comes in generous portions. Been there several times and never got disappointed.
F. C.
It's a beautiful pub in a stunning location. The rooftop garden is nice! But it's a pity a pub with such history has a service that is just not adequate. Scarce attention to clients, nobody cared about us even if we had a reservation to dine in. And it was hard to grab the attention of anyone of the staff to take a seat. Terrible and not recommended. If you want to go in to just take pictures and dine elsewhere, nobody will mind.
UPDATE
The staff and management of the Anchor contacted me after I left my poor (1 star) review. They will try to avoid other consumers to face the same tricky experience that I had there. I therefore add a couple of stars for their goodwill and will visit again to secret shop their improvements.
V.
Fish and chips is the must in this very place, I had some of the most stunning beers in this pub and my wife enjoyed a lot their cherry cider.
I would say the location is very convenient, near the Tower Bridge, Tate Museum and some other attractions in the area.
The atmosphere is very nice and the view to the river is the best in their terrace.
I would definitely visit again in our next trip to London.
M. P.
Beautiful old style pub with many rooms. Good location. Ive tried classic fish & chips and it was OK. Service can be improved. We had to sit between many dirty tables around for a long time.
L. K.
The plant based burger and chips was delicious! So happy to find a place with good vegetarian/vegan options at a decent price
M. K.
A good tradition historic pub on river Thames and among top pubs and bar in city of London. You can have variety of craft beer and wines with elegant ambience. Public restroom there . You can drink in the street. Good various kind of foods. Watch sports here and can drink . Pub games to play. The place is quite popular among travellers and office People who can have few drinks after work.
S. W.
So much history in the area, with this fine pub being a part of it, still serving a great selection of food and drink right by the Thames. Can get busy, but lots of bars in the building.
M. S.
A beautiful place outside and inside, at Thames Bankside. Prices are not so high for this location and meals are tasty. I ordered fish&chips (with sides peas and chips) and my husband ordered half roasted chicken (it's sides were chips and coleslaw salad). You have to place your order at the bar and pay for it, then you get your drinks and take them to your table and finally a few minutes later they will serve your meals to your table.
D. S.
Great views of the Thames and a traditional feel inside as well. Fast service another bonus with an outside bar now serving those wishing to enjoy the late summer sunshine.
P. R.
I proposed to my girlfriend here and they were very nice and gave us a complimentary prosecco bottle. Love you guys forever for the memories you helped create. Love from Ireland.
S. M.
Huge pub on the banks of the river with lovely views of the city and a large outside service area. Food was good and service was friendly. Toilets were disgusting!!
G. N.
Fish and chips Always the best in this very amazing place, I had some of the most stunning drinks in this pub and my friends enjoyed a lot, it is a good tourist strap !
I would say the location is very convenient, near the Tower Bridge, Tate Museum and some other attractions in the area such as Shakespear globe.
The atmosphere is very nice and the view to the river is the best in their terrace and summer created ambient.
You can even admire st Pauls Cathedral!
I would definitely visit again the roof terrace as I live in London.
B. G.
Fish and chips was huge! Well worth the visit
F. D. G.
Lovely super afordeble place by the river . I suggest to book as tend to be very busy
D. C.
Spacious, wide choice of beer, tasty snacks. There is a good view from the roof top as well.
b.
Brilliant and polite staff lovely venue and nice drinks, atmosphere is amazing would definitely recommend
A. K.
Happening pub with delicious fish and chips. Nice ambience and service.
W. B.
Very nice pub, friendly and efficient staff, nice selection of real ales, very old, well worth a visit. Will try the food next time and give it a 5.
T. S.
Nice old style pub. Cold beer which was great on a hot day. Have outside seating by the river and a upstairs terrace. Inside lots of seating an tv's for watching sport.
L. B.
Ordered through the app which was quick and easy. Food arrived within 20mins of ordering however it arrived at least 20 mins before our first drinks arrived. Seemed very understaffed by the frantic run around of one guy on the floor
F. K.
The pub is in one of the more touristy places of London, but inside it's actually a nice traditional pub. It's not cheap, but ok for this area of London. Might be packed, so it's always a bit of a gamble.
J. C.
Nice spot along the Thames for a pint. Didn't eat anything but food looked good. Imagine this would be a great summer spot!
B.
I really love this place. Every year when i'm on vacation in london this is one of our stops. It's really big and has a friendly staff. I ordered a steak and it was delicious. The chocolate fudge cake is one off the best cakes i've ever tasted. I really recommend this place for the tourists and the locals. Overall an great experience
T. T.
The food was great. The place was very busy so we had to wait for our food approximately 40 min. When they brought u as the food, one of the dishes was wrong (missing a few things). We asked several different people about the missing items, but no one ever brought us anything. The second beer that I had was very diluted. The service is mediocre.
J. W.
Had walked past this place for years as it is always incredibly busy as it sits right next to the Thames. However, there's lots of space inside and its the space outside that's often full on a nice day. We went late one Saturday when quiet and the staff were nice, just a little slow so I worry if it were much busier. Decent prices, especially for a central pub on the Thames, would happily go back.
C. D.
We ordered fish & chips and it was very delicious. Oh and had some Pimms also very good. Atmosphere was great as well. We sat upstairs so it was quieter than downstairs.
D. N. T.
A truly wonderful and unique old English pub atmosphere. Excellent care and efficiency was shown and delivered. Thank you.
Dr Noël Tredinnick
j. k.
Good pub, nice spot bring plenty of money though.
M. C.
Nice pub on the south side of the Thames. Good food and friendly staff. The atmosphere is very nice as well.
T. M.
Good little pub we sat in the outside terrace with a view if the river. Reasonably priced bar and great views.
R. K.
Nice old pub, they serve delicious traditional meal, staff very friendly and helpful, cosy atmosphere.
D. C. (. W. D.
As best as I could tell, there is NO table service here. Eventually I went to the downstairs to the secondary bar and stood there for close to a minute while the bar tender ignored me. Eventually I asked him if I could order a drink and without preamble asked, "what do you want?". I was pretty thrown off by this, but I ordered my drink, he told me the total and handed me a receipt without another word... So though the location and the age of this pub is AMAZING, the staff made it a dismal experience.
K.
Great pub with lot of outside space to seat by the great river view. Good selection of drinks.only downside is getting drinks served when busy in nice sunny day
B. C.
Nice to enjoy a pub with a good atmosphere over the Christmas/New Year break. Good range of beers.
J. G.
Great pints of guinness, rooftop seating with views of London by the thames
D. H. (.
Had a couple of beers before dinner, music too loud for conversation.
Pub has lost its old fashioned charm
A. M.
Lovely pub right on the Thames, very cozy and great seating area outside
G. G.
A classic English pub by the River Thames, next to Shakespeare globe. Nice location and atmosphere inside the pub
R. P.
Located on the bank of the River Thames, does have character and definitely worth a visit. Had some good snacks there too.
D. T.
Visited the place after a friend recommended going there for fish and chips and it was worth it. In case you are a fan of ciders the Recorderlig with strawberry and lime taste is what I would suggest you try.
I. H.
Terrific London pub, not cheap but good selection or drinks and food.
T. B.
Nice big pub, food and beer were good and reasonably priced, staff are very nice, loos need some TLC
J.
Love taking photos of this iconic pub but we weren’t able to come In without reservation
I. w.
Good venue for first team get together in nearly 2 years, good beers, no hassle, good food. Staff professional and quick.
W. L.
Situated in an idyllic, historical village we were welcomed warmly.
M. F.
I had a great time in this lovely little place after ducking in out of the rain for a drink in the afternoon and ended up staying till late into the night. The staff were very friendly and attentive which created a very welcoming atmosphere, I will definitely go back again.
D.
Lovely location. Staff is friendly as most GK pubs are. Prices are a bit tourist rates which are to be expected. I was very disappointed with them doing away with the fever tree tonics. If you are going to have premier gin, at premier prices, don't give me bottom rate tonic.
G. B.
Heard about Sunday Roasts in London so was excited to try it. Meat was dry and hard to cut. Potatoes and veggies were ok. Wish it tasted as good as it looked. Staff was friendly.
S. C.
Great place. Full of history and a symbol in the city of London. Good to have a snack, dinner or even just for a drink. A must go...
C. V.
Had a lovely lunch here in the rooftop garden. Wonderful view of the river and people walking by! The food was very good as well. Low key place - you seat yourself and order at the bar.
J. J. M.
Great place to go for a drink and some food, staff are friendly and helpful, in the nicer weather the outside area is a good place to go.
O. T.
Nice pub by the river. Great london views.
Good food.
Great atmosphere and plenty of seating inside and outside..
N. G.
Absolute classic. Such a vintage pub with awesome seating for groups or great to stand by the bar. The outdoor terrace is just great. It is tourist central but never feels crushed. I would put it on any tourist to do list. No I don't work for them.
C. S.
Fantastic seats upstairs just near the beer garden.
Food wasn't bad
Good pub would go again.
r. c.
Good pub with great food, quick service even when busy. Staff are very nice
M. W.
Excellent pies and fairly good beer selection, along with a great location with a decent view over the Thames.
There's plenty of outdoor seating, above the main pub and in a separate outdoor area
M. A.
Good pub, well priced for area, on the river. Made a mistake on our food order but so quick to rectify. Can't fault the friendly service
R. S.
Avoid ordering via the app, it took over 30 min to get chips and a pint that way. The staff was very nice though and apologetic about the wait
S. B.
Really tasty, not sure what I expected before I came here. The steak pie though was great and the prices were reasonable. Will come back if in the area
J. S.
Great pub. Small side rooms for a quiet drink.
T. F.
Beautiful pub by the Thames, can't go wrong really 👌
F.
Excellent pub, ample seating with stunning views. The rosemary chips were excellent and the staff are incredibly friendly, would advise to book tables in advance on busy days but it is worth it for a delicious drink on a warm day.
K. H.
Had drinks here, they do food here and other peoples food looked nice
J. W.
Good sized pub just round the corner from Borough Market. Great food - well executed fish and chips, pies and a wonderful array of beers, wines and spirits for the thirsty. Lots of outside seating available for sunny days. Recommended.
P. M.
Good old fashioned pub, great staff and good selection of beer, traditional home cooked food well worth a visit
J. Z.
Lovely pub...atmosphere was nice and staff were very friendly and helpful
K. F.
Decent if slightly touristy boozer on the river. Massive inside space but also an outside patio. Drinks selection solid if unspectacular.
T. F.
Friendly , seating outside & in , dj outside , lovely views overlooking the Thames. Although price of drinks definitely gone up !
G. P.
Decent affordable food. A few ales. Great location and and a few ales.
S. A.
ExceExcellent river side pub good food and service, very popular in the summer.
D. M.
Nice Riverside pub with great views of the Thames and St. Paul's Cathedral.
w. d.
Great pub overlooking the Thames. Gorgeous fish and chips.
c. p.
Great pub with lots of different areas to sit. Great food
D. R.
Great bar. Great beers. Beer garden also great but not the best at acknowledging who's next in the queue 😀
I. B.
Beer ok but food menu not, everything i wanted to order they didn't have so had to eat elsewhere .
J. B.
Great pub , love seating outside by the river.
S. M.
Staff were lovely and funny, location is amazing. The GK app is a little tricky to use (and this is coming from an ex GK employee!) but oveeal a great spot on the south bank.
D. H.
The food is pretty good, but the ambiance is the real winner. Each floor has its own energy and layout while maintaining an inviting pub feel. Plus they say the original spot housed the pub Shakespeare and crew used as a changing house and watering hole.
J. L.
Spread out but a fun walk along the river with great places to have a drink and listen to street music with friends or make some new ones!
L. P.
Been here many times for drinks only. It's OK, nothing special for the area. Never had any food here, so can't comment on that.
M. B.
I liked this pub.
Old fashioned vibe but with TV's showing the Olympics .
Friendly staff.
Good choice of beer.
Lots of space to sit down.
K. J.
Sat outside next to the river and enjoyed a welcome rest and pint. Great spot, great beer and always features on my places to go when in London.
R. C.
Fantastic place and amazing ambience. Their Chicken platter is perfect along with Guinness pint!
J. K.
More painful than it needed to be. Everything was app-based including the ordering payment process, however the order wouldn't go through even after numerous attempts both as a guest and then after registering an account. Eventually the bar staff agreed to let us order/pay the normal way but it really interrupted the flow of the date every time we wanted some drinks. The staff were very sweet about it and the range of beers was great, just a shame the app was so glitchy because it took quite a lot away from the overall experience.
N. H.
Lovely pub right by the Thames, food is very reasonable and comes out nice and quick, staff are lovely and being in a pub with such a long history is a nice experience!
D. N.
Not a happy bunny, been so looking forward for works Xmas Dinner, where we were seated disappointing, table setting disappointing, just hope our meal is OK, staff 1st class
S. S.
Apparently the dictionary was written here, and some guy named Shakespeare got a pint here once. Not sure how long the lotto game near the toilets has been here, but if you're in the neighborhood. Stop by and make your mark at this old pub. Just be prepared for a sore stomach after some oily fish and chips.
S. H.
The pub is beautiful and spacious. Outdoor seatimgs are great. Good is not bad but a bit pricy. Great pies.
K. N.
One of London's oldest and best riverside pubs. Inside, low ceilings, stone walls and a fireplace indicates hints at the age of this pub and in the summer, the pub really comes into it's own with a large balcony on the top floor overlooking the street below and an outdoor terrace by the river to watch the ebb and flow of the river Thames. As a pub, the usual British classics are on the menu such as Fish & Chips (delicious) as well a decent selection of beers on tap. The Anchor is a great place to tuck into your pre-theatre lunch/dinner before a show at the The Globe Theatre which is only 10 minutes walk-away.
G. s.
The staff were so helpful and the food was so tasty and came out so quick
R. S.
Great location, very good fish and chips in huge portions. Nice and cold beer to.Had a good time. Should have better routines filling salt, pepper and toiletpaper. Nice happy staff . We are coming back for sure. Br Ronny.(Norway)
J. P.
Situated on one of the most historical reaches of the Thames, the Anchor Bankside lays claim to fascinating, and somewhat gruesome historical associations. The Anchor offers a very warming and friendly environment perfect for any occasion. Join us at any time for some great traditional British classics! If you are feeling peckish we also have a great selection of delicious dishes to tantalise your taste-buds. Take in the delightful riverside views of the Thames with a drink at the Anchor Bankside!
T. B.
Tired interior decor but great building and location
D. M.
One of the nicest pub in the area, literally on the river, with warm nice and professional waiting staff. From the terrace you can enjoy a quite good pub food, nice and cold drinks and an amazing view. Whatever do you looking for, if you are nearby give to "the Anchor " a chance ... 0 regrets XD
S. W.
Ran out of food but we'll priced and good selection of drinks
S. N.
Great location, great staff. Food and drink lovely
G. J.
This is one of the oldest pubs on banks side. Great location, has an old London charm to the interior ambience.
You can choose to sit outside on sunny days or sit inside for that cosy feeling.
S. S.
Fantastic atmosphere. Vibrant and lively. Did not try the food. Location is just great right on the river.
C. G.
Good food good ambience. The place is located just beside the Thames. The view is amazing and the drinks are reasonably priced. The food isn't that great but once you are drunk who really cares. A definate visit.
B. K.
We had a lovely dinner at this restaurant. Shoutout to micheal, awesome bartender!
E. S. P.
Great location and remarkable interiors. Worth a visit when walking around Bankside for a drink and some nibbles. Be aware that the place can get pretty crowded and noisy, which is a drawback for me. Other than that, I would recommend for a quick stop!
R. H.
Cool old pub with good food that is not expensive. It was neat to think that we were eating in a place that Shakespeare frequented and that has been serving ale since before America was the US of A.
V. R.
Excellent pub.
Great food and drink.
Fairly priced for London.
Fantastic bar staff x
D. C.
Had lunch, food OK, and reasonably well price considering the location.
Frindly staff and good service
B. P.
Proper tourist pub done properly. Large patio by the river complimented by snug inside spaces.
Tourist prices are tempered by good quality food and drink, supported by access to the Greene King standard offer well adapted to the location.
G. H.
Always reliable in terms of food and service, and a lovely old building.
R. T.
Nice place, we walked from London Eye over to Anchor Bankside. It was a nice stroll along the River Thames, and the Southwark Bridge looked pretty cool lighted in the blue purple light. Once we got to Anchor we drank some great Ale. Next time I should try to get there sooner, that way I can try their food.
M.
Incredible food (especially burgers) at reasonable prices. Great atmosphere and attentive staff. Worth a visit!
C. D.
Great bar with loads of different room's and good food. Excellent river views.
S. M.
Sat on their roof terrace, not an amazing view from every table obviously but nice ambience and the service was friendly
M. D.
Beautiful pub on the thames Riverside a few steps from the tate gallery. Good selection of beers and spirits, good service, amazing views
A. D. M.
We had a delicious meal here before we went to the Globe Theatre. The service was quick (despite just one poor man on the bar) and the quality of the food was exceptional . A lovely spot by the Thames.
m. l.
The Anchor is a traditional pub with a beautiful atmosphere close to the banks of the River Thames.
E. R.
Really nice pub, especially on a sunny day. Would recommend to book inadvance as extremely busy
S. F. L.
We went there around lunchtime on a Saturday and as expected it was very busy with only tables outside available. The atmosphere was great inside, a very cosy vibe, and a mix of tourists and locals. We ordered food which was fish and chips and a BBQ pork burrito. Fish and chips was quite bland with a strange acidic taste to the ketchup (side point) The fish was quiet nice however especially considering it's a touristy venue. In terms of the BBQ pork burrito, it was heavily weighted to the rice with minimal pork and clearly had been in the heat in the kitchen for some time as the foil had stuck to the wrap in some places and couldn't come off. Bit annoying as had to spend time peeling it off the food. Also the nachos you get are pretty pointless. Clearly they were in the heat for ages as the cheese was glued to the nachos. Also they only came with cheese and peppers. Overall the food is edible to ok given the location. However in terms of atmosphere - great.
J. U.
Wonderful historic pub on the south bank of the River Thames. Numerous bars and great service.
T. S.
Lovely setting Lovely pub. I arrived and was 2nd in the queue 4 the bar ( outside section). Barman v friendly and i took a seat whilst waiting for my partner to turn up.
80s music was playing and this place has a lovely vibe to it.
Was nice to chill and people watch.
All in all a great pub and the pizzas from what i saw looked very appetising as the two guys next to me demolished theirs!!
D. M.
This is a great pub. Has nice views over the river, with a terrace and outside seating. Lots of places to sit, and also multiple bars so there isn't too much waiting around.
P.
Only went to the pub part on the ground floor and the garden. Fast service at the bar and a nice crowd of people.
It's located in st Katherine's dock which also has other restaurants and bars
K. T.
Good atmosphere. Reasonable price for London. Food is reasonable.
C. B.
Nice place for an after-work drink and something to eat. I suggest eating upstairs or outdoors. The area upon entry is super noisy and crowded. My lasagna was very creamy and delicious.
A. S.
Great location. Reasonable choice of beers. Great outside seating area.
K. L.
Very friendly Staff . Gorgeous food ànd beer
M. W.
Great watering hole. Friendly staff and good mulled wine
E. W.
Brilliant vibe good drinks we had nachos they were lovely not amazing but what we expected from a green king. It was very busy but the staff still managed to find us a table outside
S. R.
An attractive bar in a great location. Bar staff were slow when preparing drinks.
S. T.
Beautiful place by the river with a fantastic atmosphere which is made even more enjoyable by people like Michael serving your drinks! I can't wait to come back again. Thank you Michael 🙏🏽
J. P. W.
Great pub for tourists (which I am). Boasts a long history and river views.
A. H.
One of the best pub in the area. Amazing view on the terrace!
J. B.
We had a lovely lunch.Very good price.
s. d.
I wouldn’t recommend the nachos unfortunately
O. L.
Really, that's such a good pub. Unfortunately overcrowded but the food and the beer are still good. I can definitely recommend the Sunday Roast. It was my first one I've ever eaten outside my home. After a church service in the Southwark Cathedral it is even more attractive to go there. I love the look inside the pub, staff is friendly.
C. L.
Fabulous location. It could have been a really lovely early evening drink. But, the lady who served me was grumpy and unhelpful
c. n.
Great pub, ace location and friendly staff.
G. T.
Very nice place.food was great.easy access for wheelchair ♿. Only problem thevtoilets on our floor were not working
M.
Stopped for pub snacks, nice and clean
C. G.
Bit pricey but then again the location is very central. Great beers on draught! Gangly Ghoul caught my eye immediately 😁
K. P.
Busy pub on Friday afternoon/evening. Was lucky to have a table outside next to the river.
S. E.
Great place for some drinks on a weekend, you stand or sit out by the Thames and get free entertainment from the great buskers along the Southbank
A. H.
Nice vybe, could do with a bit more "House Music"
T. N.
Cool pub with a lot of Shakespeare history good fish&chips and drinks
A. C.
Quick service with ok selection of beers. Good outside area.
J. P. W.
Great pub for tourists (which I am). Boasts a long history and river views.
p.
Great pub with river views!
M. L.
Great situation.
P. M.
Good old fashioned pub, great staff and good selection of beer, traditional home cooked food well worth a visit
J. G.
Great location to people watch. Food isn't bad either and service is pretty good.
D. C.
Nice Plate to have a Beer witt Fish and Chips.
r. j.
Very charming place. Shakespeare himself frequented it. Quirky layout and a great time had here.
R. W.
Great location, big range of beers and fun beer garden area
N. D.
Great place to enjoy a nice beer outside on the river. Very basic service but it's all you really need.
J. G.
Great place for a decent pint with superb views of the River.
T. G.
Great service good food and a brilliant location
Y. B. R. M.
Riverside seating with a view of St. Paul's, why not? The only downside is the price which is quite a bit expensive.
J. R.
Great place, nice selection of drinks, AWESOME surroundings!
F. R.
Location is really good and outside space improved so much over the last couple of years.
I. H.
Good sized outside seating area overlooking the Thames. Pleasant and efficient staff
T. 8.
Nice atmosphere and not overpriced (unlike so many other puns nearby)
V. O.
My first visit to a true British pub. Was amazing innit. Fish and chips are truly legendary
M. S.
Excellent pub, London glory on tap
N.
Probably one of my favourite places to drink when visiting this side of London, I love the quirky levels inside the building, drinks are pretty standard but if you like beer and wine, this is the place for you!
Z. H.
Flowers are always beautiful outside plus a pub near the river is always a bonus, but it's a touristy pub not many locals which I turns lack of atmosphere. But is a beautiful setting and a beautiful pub. Ps lights outside make a lovely sight.
C.
Great beer garden any time of day overlooking the Thames. Decent priced beers, lovely helpful staff.
A. A.
So nice to have a pub meal indoors again. Apparently I was their first customer today, staff were friendly & attentive as usual. 👍🏻😊
J. C.
Stylish, warm, very good quality craft beer, proper british atmosphere not that expensive duppy share rum place
l. l.
Really nice, welcoming good choice of beverages
J. M.
Nice but not exceptional. A slightly awkwardly shaped space is comfortably outfitted, but for me, didn't quite work. I enjoyed my visit, but didn't see any compelling reason to return.
B. S.
Lovely old fashioned pub by the river. Very clean and nice atmosphere
M. V.
Nice vibe by the river. Outdoors part, spacious inside. Good wine selection, decent pub food.
O. B.
Lovely pub and pub garden alongside the river. Well priced drinsk and food. Great service too..
G. H.
Busy friendly very old building fine beer.
D. W.
Loved this place, bit of history behind it, nice food, nice drinks and pretty friendly staff.
What more would you want
D. M. (.
Great place. Lots of history, opened in 1615. Cheap drinks and food and a fantastic view of the Thames and London.
S. G. C.
A little overpriced but great location and good selection of drinks!!
T. M. G.
This is a great old pub with lots of nooks to tuck yourself away for an intimate pint. There's decent food on offer and a large seating area by the Thames, that currently has it own little bar.
C. B.
Cant count the amount of times I've been here while walking along the south bank, great service and food is also good ish, cheap cheerful and great location if on the roof terrace, I'm sure will be back again and again
C. A.
Outside seating is nice, even though it had rained all day. There were some areas under cover and there are heaters throughout.
Wine was entertainingly brought in a plastic jug because you can have glass bottles outside.
They offer both the NHS/Serco Track&Trace app check in and their own for customers whose phones aren't compatible with the app. You have to download the Greene King app to order but time between ordering and delivery is very short.
Steak pie was very tasty although the autumn veggies that came with it was mostly just kale.
S. M.
Amazing historical pub with decent food and drink
r. j.
Very charming place. Shakespeare himself frequented it. Quirky layout and a great time had here.
S. P.
Lots of character. Staff friendly. Good food and reasonably priced especially for this part of London.
B. J.
Nice venue, great location and quick service.
J. R.
It's in a great situation, right by the river, and quirky with its three levels. A pint here was £1.60 more than one across the river at Embankment. It wasn't awfully busy, but the service in the top bar was really slow. Food was okay, not hot enough, to be honest. I'd like to come back in the summer, see how it is, then.
J. L.
My fav burger place. Great beer selection, perfect location and friendly staff.
A. M.
It's OK. Food outside comes in a box with plastic cutlery but it's good quality.
M. H.
Good vegetarian fish and chips, but the place really is crowded
j. s.
Smashing service. Lovely staff. Great grub ❤
S. C.
Situated at the Thames riverbank classic pub with tasty food and nice selection of beer and wide variety of other liquors. Helpful staff. Marvellous place if you want to go for Sunday Roast as well as if you're willing to paint the town red.
K. L.
My favourite place to hang out when visiting London.
Love the lasagne.
C. O.
Great pub, despite being filled with tourists at any given time and a bit on the pricey side for pints. But the quality is decent, and it's roomy enough to get a seat even for an impromptu pint at 6pm on a Wednesday. Food is delicious too.
D. M.
Despite being in a super touristy area, this pub is one of my favourites. The staff are extremely professional and friendly ( Christula upstairs is a great hostess and very efficient ) and Peter couldn’t have been more helpful when one of our group had lost their keys.
Good beers, decent food, lots of space.
Will come back and can definitely recommend.
J. M.
Nice pub by the river. Food expensive but served quickly and nicely cooked. Staff were very helpful. Well set up for people in wheelchairs. Use the side entrance. Acceptable toilets available. Music was a bit loud for easy conversation.
N. S.
Always a great pub to visit with its history and Riverside location. A little difficulty initially with the Green King app. but easier as you use it.
R. N.
Great place in a great building! We had authentic British pub food and it was delicious!
The guy serving us was a bit unfriendly but the rest of the people working there were nice. They also serve awesome gin!
B. e.
Great pub. Good selection of beers. Outside bar too for the summer time. Great views as well over the Thames and St Paul's and surrounding bridges. Easy and convenient to get to. Always busy during the summer months and whenever there's a bit of sun. Even if it's not its busy inside just because of the location. Big place inside too plenty of seating and the food isn't bad too.
L. M. D. N.
Loved the vibe and the atmosphere in this historic pub next to the Globe theatre.
The beer selection is great and there are plenty of seats and tables so grab your pint and make your way around the pub to make yourself comfortable.
The food menu is vast and includes all the pub classics.
They also have sitting outside to enjoy the view when the weather allows for it.
If you are in the area stop by for a pint and you'll be sure to enjoy it.
m.
It's a fantastic place to sit down for a pint. Lovely view and loads of character. Been there many times and always loved it. Had to mark it down as we were not happiest today, we got a pint glass with a lipstick on it (it happens in busy pubs and we are OK with it) and when pointed out to bartender she just poured the beer into another glass instead pouring new pint. Its a bit gross
E. A.
A bit noisy but definitely a joyful place
A. K.
Great English pub with riverside seating with the view of st. Paul . It has lots of food choices for vegetarians as well as non-vegetarian .its good for groups
I. T.
Classic English pub on the Thames waterfront. Caters to tourists more than locals. The Sunday roast was dry, and the gravy was forgotten. Service was not great, had to wait for 45 minutes to receive a small serving of horseradish (which was also forgotten from the dish originally). I would recommend this place more for casual drinks after walking the south bank.
M. B.
Great atmosphere on a Thursday evening
A. P.
According to the local legend, this is where Shakespeare grabbed an occasional beer or two. The pub is spacious with plenty of seating options across three levels. There are big screens to watch a cricket or a football game while enjoying your favorite beer. The food is decent. I tried the steak and wine pie- it met the pub food standard. The service was exceptionally quick, which made me wonder if the food was already made even before I placed the order.
I. S.
Lovely old pub with multiple floors indoors and pretty terrace outdoors by the river. They have a good selection of drinks and food at reasonable cost. Loved the mushroom pie and chips, but not the tasteless veg that came with it.
Lots of screens inside the pub for those who like watching sports.
Dogs friendly. Toilets were upstairs, so might not be suitable for those with accessibility needs.
P. M.
Great Place & Great Food & Good Prices Will Be Going Back To Here When Im Back In London
A. S.
Nice pub good selection of drinks 🍸 👌 👍
G. B.
Went in for pit stop whilst walking along Thames, service quick even though was busy and price good, nice not to get ripped off
J. P.
Great pub with a good selection of beers. There is an up stairs beer garden (patio) with a television, making it great to catch a game on.
Second floor interior is nice with dark wooden walls and cushioned chairs. The main floor has two bars with a decent amount of seating.
There is a rather large seating area outside right by the river which is nice on a warm day.
L. H.
A super place to do, yesterday. Seats outdoors (for now) and delicious drinks. Good friendly and excellent staff. Cheers!
M. M.
A nice pub by the river. Drink selection isn't great. But reasonably priced.
Food seems cooked from frozen, but when a few drinks in doesn't matter so much.
A bit annoyance is the lack of heaters and umbrellas for the outside area. Really should be a lot more.
Z. B.
Was lovely and a great atmosphere even with social distancing
J. S.
Just went for drinks before dinner to celebrate our final day in London. We had an hour before the reservation, so we wanted to spend it with a drink or two.
Great location and well decorated inside. The staff seem very nice, including the bartender who was downright jovial.
But the bar was out of, 1) Guinness and, 2) all ales. It was crazy. They were out of a lot of their tap beers. But they’re a pub! They have 1 job in life:
Make sure there is beer.
I was disappointed and would probably chose another pub next time.
L. L.
Great outside area, good, friendly efficient staff, loses a star for cost of beer in plastic but for SE1 on the Thames Central London to be expected I suppose.
G. R.
Reasonable prices and very friendly manager
M. S.
Delicious fish & chips. Excellent service.
S. V.
Amazing Traditional Pub on the Thames River.
C. T.
Beautiful cosy pub on the River Thames. Delicious food, decent selection of beer and no shortage of places to sit! Service was excellent, always very friendly and happy to explain the menu without being asked! Have been here twice now on our visits to London and safe to say we will be back very soon!
J. B.
Nice coffee and staff. Lovely by the canal
D. S.
Great 👍 pub for drinks &food 🍸
B. S.
Fantastic pub in a great and hip location.
A. O.
Ordering was a little slow at the bar, but it was busy so not a big deal. Food came out quick and was very good (fish/chips and scampi/chips). The smashed peas were very good! And we enjoyed the Old Mont Ciders on tap.
J. H. U.
Marvellous location. Doesn't matter what season.
Beer is decent, with the familiar few as well as a reasonable IPA offering.
Clientele is quite upmarket, lots of tourists because of the location.
If you're there for a beer or two it's rather nice. But the menu is rather pedestrian, and the food itself even less remarkable.
S. S.
This is where we have our leaving drinks all the time. The prices are fair for the area. A decent pint. The food is ok too not a bad menu. There’s smoking area outside on the roof bit. And they have no issues reserving a table.
T. C.
It may seem just like a regular pub but there is nothing regular when you're having a drink by the Thames.
Although often busy, bar staff are great and drinks are just as you would like.
Haven't tried the food yet but do let me know.
A. C.
Exelent view, nice place, good craft beer
T. R.
Nice little pub with a bit of history to it, nice selection of beers
A. I.
Loved sitting outside good pub
N. D. H.
After waiting for our food for 40 minutes, it turned out that they had "dropped our ticket".
Food was good.
It would have been nice if staff would tell entering guests where they could be seated. Now every new guest had to scout the entire restaurant and back again in search of an open spot. There was constant and annoying traffic of walking guests past our table, because no one knew if there was any vacant table left ahead of us.
H. I.
The place was absolutely amazing and the staff was extremely nice and friendly. The outside sitting area is right next to the river and the view at night is incredible. I would definitely recommend the place to everybody who is looking for a peaceful place to have a drink and enjoy the evening away from the hustle of the busy streets but still want to spend time in central London. Really great place.
R. M.
Very good pub!! Had a little do here for an Xmas party. We had a room booked which had a bar and plenty of room for people. Only small issue was there didn’t seem to be any heating. But didn’t bother me. Would recommend to others though!
V. C.
Amazing pub for our first day and fish n chips! My friend loved it too
M. J.
They were very kind to us here, even when we did get a little over excited by the football. Great pub and experience :)
A.
Been here twice in 2 weeks!! Had to come back because of the authentic English Pub atmosphere. They have 3 floors including a spacious rooftop area which overlooks the Thames. It's a beautiful view day and night!! I definitely recommend this pub to any visitor or local alike
p.
Great pub with river views!
C. B.
Good London pub. Nice food, drinks and ambiance
J. G.
Great location to people watch. Food isn't bad either and service is pretty good.
C. H.
Sat outside had a few drinks staff friendly food looked OK.
R. L.
First of all, the location is great. Riverside views, a stone's throw from Shakespeare's Globe and the Tate Modern.
Inside, there's lots of space across two floors with an additional roof terrace which is small but crams in a decent amount of tables.
Having queued at the bar for quite a while to order food and drinks, the staff member suddenly closed down the till and asked me and an another customer to use the other bar in the main room. Instead of just agreeing to serve me after I told her I'd been waiting for ages, she made me requeue at the adjoining bar. Not a biggie, but considering there was only one other person waiting to be served after me, she could have just taken our orders instead of closing the till.
Anyway, the menu is classic pub fare, intended to draw in tourist crowds looking to sample "traditional" Brit dishes like fish n chips and pies.
I had the chicken and mushroom pie with mash. The pie was decent but the mash and veggies were woefully dry.
Nice place but maybe one for the tourists...

Sorry for the that. That wasn't something I meant to leave. I must've clicked it by accident. I will however leave an intended review now saying that I loved your pub! It's a lovely place in a gorgeous locarion and I cannot wait to come back once we're able to. Sorry for the accidental review first time round.

Very welcoming and accomodating. Easy fast and beautiful setting to have a drink in the summer evening.

Good atmosphere, correct quality food, nothing outstanding, little personality lacking as its quite busy.

Nice enough pub on the waterfront. Would’ve been given a higher rating, however, I was charged £7.30 for a pint of orange and lemonade. Obviously questioned this, to be told that orange was x amount and lemonade was x amount, totalling £7.30. Never have I seen a soft drink more expensive than a pint of beer. Definitely won’t be returning on that basis. Who charges two separate drinks that are in one glass?

Great location, great old, but sanitizer pub. Food a bit basic, uninspired. Service good.

Easy to find on the banks of the Thames. It's long history drew me to it and I wasn't disappointed by the decor or the food. Sister had the fish, chips, and peas and unlike another reviewer, her's was hot and she had to take it apart a bit so she could get started.. .I had the sausage, mashed potatoes, peas and gravy and it did not disappoint me.I choose The Anchor cask bitter and it was excellent. There are booths and tables. Good to go to if your in the area.

Nice pub on the river not far from the Globe Theatre. Usual Covid rules apply. Outside it was v nice, they now have an external bar where you can get served.

Nice outside. Cosy inside. Plenty of space and good-looking vegan options on the food menu. The service I received was good. I'd happily return. 5 stars when animals are no longer used for food - or anything.

A lovely riverside pub with outdoor eating and drinking space for punters. There is a small bar next to the river too. The fish and chips were great and the atmosphere was busy and buzzing. One of the toilet doors was broken so there was a long queue for the ladies. Little dog was welcomed outdoors.

A great choice of different places to sit, inside, next to the river or on the veranda. Cosy inside.

Great location, good food.
