🚇 Westbourne Park
🍺 £4.00 Pravha
❤️ I took the tube to Westbourne Park and then a five minute walk from the station to get here. Just before you get to the pub you walk over a bridge across the Grand Union Canal then you hang a right into a cobbled backstreet which acts as a great backdrop to arriving at Angies Free House. I visited on a bank holiday Monday at the end of August and the atmosphere here was one of calm. I counted at least five tables all with one occupant who were all nursing a pint of Guinness and were more than happy in their own company. Around the bar was a different affair as there was a bit of ribbing going on and a few legs being pulled, the craic was live and well. The pub is dimly lit and has a sort of mock tudor feel to it. The walls are covered with sporting memorabilia and there were a few TV’s showing the horse racing, a hallmark of any good Irish pub. This pub is an institution of all things Ireland in the local and wider Irish community which is great but I have a concern. I see the Irish community in London ageing and dwindling, in fact since brexit some younger Irish have decided to return home to Ireland. So with this is mind, my fear is that overtime we may lose pubs like Angie’s and the charm of the community that frequent them. I’ve recently heard on the grapevine that London’s first Irish pub The Tipperary in Fleet Street is closed and may not reopen.
.
The Irish pub and people have played a massive part of London pub culture. I left Angie’s with mixed emotions as I really enjoyed my visit here and taking in the atmosphere and the surroundings but worry about the long term future of proper Irish pubs in London and who will carry on the traditions. For now, get yourself down here and sample a little slice of Ireland.

Decent 'traditional' pub with a vaguely Irish feel. Superb prices (£1.90 for a half pint of Cider) and friendly atmosphere with friendly, professional, staff.
Set back a bit from the main road but easy to find and definitely worth the effort if you're in the local area.

Unexpected discovery that ended up being a great pub with a distinctive old school atmosphere. Great Guinness and prices you would struggle to find in London these days!
