Reviews of Antidote Wine Bar & Wine Shop
A. V.
Perfect place for after work drinks and nibbles. We sat at the bar. Amazing wine selection and they do nibbles like olives, cheese, charcuterie.
E. C.
Spectacular spot for wine and charcuterie. Would HIGHLY recommend the pictured wine — a chilled red that was incredibly juicy and refreshing — chef’s kiss, the Burrata with peaches, and a board to split. The atmosphere was hopping, yet quaint for a weekend night. Loved every minute here. Will be coming back!
A. S.
Stopped in here after dinner nearby with our sprocker pup. Care free, distinctly French and lovely wine nestled in a quiet alley. You get what you pay for.
A. M. R.
Lovely wine bar in Carnaby. Super friendly staff and lots of options, including a great variety of organic wines. We tried the alchemyst and the Catalan wines (both big glass). Will come back to taste other wines and their cheese and cold meats platters.
G. W.
Great value and lovely servers. Small and cosy venue that feels really genuine in a quiet area of central london.
L. D.
One of my ultimate favourite wine bars in London! Tasty wine list with natural wines and always a great service. Love the vibes there!
C. M.
A wonderful atmosphere with a phenomenal selection of good quality natural wines provided with great service and care.
R. S.
(semi) legendary selection of organic/biodynamic wines, albeit priced accordingly. A great place to while away an hour or two over a charcuterie platter and some cheeses and watch the world go by.
v.
Nice place, good wine selection, French food, amazing taste, delicious 😋
Small plates. Wine list starts from £40 and up, starters from £7-£10, and main £16-£20
L. W.
Delicious skin contact wine. Nice place, great window seat. Chilled atmosphere.
m. m.
What a great place with excellent wine. We had an amazing service and good recommendations last Friday. Thanks!
S. B.
Lovely wine bar on a quiet street off busy Carnaby
L. K.
French speaking staff, very friendly and approachable
Quality of service could have been better (e
G. Had to get up to get the bill and also to get the attention of someone to place the order)
But in most instances surprisingly good (accomodating on moving tables, payment arrangement to offer it as present to rest of the table)
Good selection of wine. Mostly restricted menu which makes choice easier. Soho prices.
Food available to purchase there
Outdoor seating available
Fairly busy
Good adress to have
j. l.
My favourite spot for a bit of wine & cheese after shopping. Excellent wine list and they're open until 11pm. except Sundays when they're closed.
M. B.
Always enjoy a lovely glass or two of wine in here
J. B.
Great small spot for a midweek drink. With a large range of wines ranging in prices, there is sure to be one to suit, but selling quality wine is clearly at the forefront of the owner's mind. We had a delicious Pinot Noir and our waitor was happy to answer our questions and explain the flavours of that particular wine. Cannot fault the experience. There was an unfortunate incident outside where another customer had her bag snatched by a group of men, would just be aware that the location is in a tourist spot, so be aware of your personal possessions while sat out in the open space, however that is no reflection of the establishment and will definitely be back for another glass!
T. M. S.
Love the atmosphere! Perfect for wine and cheese. Has a couple of types of beer for someone like me as well. Crowded and quite small, but very friendly staff.
S. K.
Outdoor seating available in a quiet side street. Nice wine by the glass selection and delicious little plates. Perfect for a light lunch.
m. R.
Lovely place, great wine selection. Even if the wine by the glass offer is really limited. But if you want a bottle there's everything you need.
A little pricey but great products overall.
S. T.
Limited menu, but delicious food. It's all about trying something new... if you can afford it.
R. M. M.
Learn French! Cause as soon as you step into this place, you might as well be in Paris!
Amazing, in so many ways. Run by truly passionate French ex-pats who KNOW good wine and know all the people in France to get it from! The chef makes literally everything from scratch (even the butter)! The food is just as amazing as the wine and the prices are truly reasonable. We toured the wine list over a matter of hours and it was one of the best experiences we had on our vacation.
Go! GO NOW!
M. C.
What to say , my favorite wine list in London
. It's a lovely place where you can enjoy a glass of wine in between shopping in carnaby
C. P.
Expensive plus they add 12.5 % service charge even if you just have a drink.
m. c.
Nice selection of unconventional and classic wines, good looking settings but food and bottles are really expensive. Don't recommend it if you are on a budget
L. B.
My favourite wine bar in central, super yummy wine, lovely ambience, really great location, it's always my first port of call after a long day.
K. W.
Stopped in for a quick drink and the waitress was absolutely lovely! The place was so cozy, am excited to come back and spend some more time here
J. H.
Great place with a good selection of wines, staff were great and super friendly. efficient service and food was excellent
J. M.
Amazing wine bar. Absolutely great selection of wines. Literally nothing I tasted was anything short of wonderful. Helpful and friendly staff.
S.
Great wine by the glass and bottle and lively cheese. Small and intimate. Get there early for a seat. Looking forward to another visit. Staff are super helpful. Can easily lose hours here!
T.
Wonderful wine bar & food!
T. F.
Great wine bar tucked away in this busy part of the West End. Perfect place for a glass of wine and small plates if you want to escape the crowds.
S. M.
Highly recommend!!! Not snobbish, good food, great variety of natural wines served by knowledgeable staff
M. L.
Great wine selection, but expensive
S. G.
Having a nice and good quality of wine is all here. I really like their place because you can actually feel the comfort of the atmosphere. The food are good also and the service.
C. R.
Cozy wine bar. Will come back again.
E. G.
Very relaxed atmosphere and incredible wine
M. H.
Excellent wine! and it was not very expensive.
French food with a good service, extensive wine list and several artisans beers.
P. B.
Beautiful little wine bar. Nice atmosphere, lots of light. Just grab a stool at the bar. It's not cheap but the wine is great
K. W.
Fantastic service and a huge selection of wine available. Wine by glass priced very reasonably.
A. G.
Great place!! Very Good Wine list. Food did Surprise me. Delicious!!! I loved this place. Burrata and Kale. The best!
R.
I love this wine bar. Perfect for a nice wine and something tasty to nibble on. They also do very good teas! Great atmosphere for a catch up with friends.
H. M.
Genuinely lovely wine bar. Fantastic food, wine and service.
S. C.
Great place for cheese/meats and a glass of wine. Fantastic selection and helpful staff.
B. B.
Great wines, food was great also. Portion slightly too small for the price but overall a good experience.
C. “. C.
They have a great selection of natural wine and are not ashamed of sharing their vaste knowledge about the subject ;) they made us feel at home from the very first minute. Well done guys!
L. F.
Great selection of wines and the cheese and meats are delicious. Very overpriced and busy so you need to be prepared for that.
K. M.
Lovely menu well executed. Excellent choice of wine. Friendly service. Good value.
D. M.
Food and wine was excellent. Service was even better. Recommended
S.
Great food, great service for a great price! Don't believe me? See for yourself (:
J. S. N. (.
Really nice cozy wine bar with good after work crowd.
D. M.
Friendly atmosphere, good wine selection and quite a find for the middle of Soho!
S. P.
Great wine. Nice interior. Delicious food. Service is fine.
E. S.
Nice little place, good choice of wines but very expensive in comparison to other spots nearby
G. A.
Great little organic wine bar with a with assortment of old world wine - with excellent charcuterie to nibble on while sipping
J. C.
I had their rump steak and it was divine! Their wine selection is good too. Service was good. Staffs were attentivw
L.
Pleasant staff, fairly knowledgable, decent wine list. On the pricey side given what they are actually selling. Boring layout / decor which isn’t functional which was frustrating. Worth a punt as a wine bar.
A. K.
A lovely hidden away wine bar with a focus on a French wines. The food was lovingly prepared and tasty but it was outclassed by the wine.
A great place for a first date though! Slightly off the beaten track so not so busy.
J. E.
Nice wine and nice food. Service was good and not overbearing.
z. m.
Lovely location off Carnaby street with an interesting range of bio wines, but the food was the surprise of this place. Simply exceptional with great service.
S. D.
WOW! Amazing place, seriously, I couldn't believe how good this place is. Fantastic food, amazing wines and great service.
L. P.
Had a pre-dinner wine here one Saturday evening, and was able to sit outside in the sun. Really nice wine list, and the staff are friendly too. A bit expensive but you get what you're paying for in terms of quality.
S. C.
Very cute place with nice atmosphere, amazing wine and food, perfect service! Strongly suggest the burrata and the Parma ham, top quality!
T. G.
nice vinebar with a small terrace. very nice wine and food, altough it is quite pricey.
P.
Does the job - it's a wine bar with great choice of wines and lovely food to go with it
P. B.
Our fav place in London. Go early to escape some crowds as it gets full! The waiters are very knowledgeable.
L. M.
I have only been here once and could not get through the wine list, but it makes for intriguing reading and great tasting. Their wines are certainly worth tasting and the snacks were delicious. They were also really happy to share their knowledge of the wines all from organic and small producers. Intimate but not squashed. Once I have tasted more wines I will be able to add the extra star!
R. M.
Lovely wine bar, nice ambience - only complaint is substandard olives but wouldn’t drop a star for that!
I. V.
Good service, nice bartenders, great wine (yes, you can actually get a good wine in London!)
B. G.
Absolutely cozy, eclectic wine bar serving organic wines, excellent cheeses, in a locals type ambiance. Service is nice, hands off, just right for us. We visit every June from USA.
E. Z.
The place to wine and dine when you are in Carnaby/SoHo. All organic wine, but really tasty wine. We prefer to dine at the bar. Small but a good selection to choose from.
J. C.
The service, the food, the wine and the ambiance all came together and mixed with the crowd to create a really epic party experience! So much so, that we're seriously considering hosting another party here when we come back to the area to visit!
S. K.
This was my first ever visit to a wine-tasting bar, and as a non-drinker I was pleasantly surprised. Although I ordered a soft drink (meh) the atmosphere was very chilled and very laid-back. The decor was unusual: cool light shades made up of empty coloured bottles and interesting artwork. Service was great and the staff were very friendly.
A. W.
Great help selecting wines. Amazing atmosphere.
S. E.
Delicious wines and relaxed atmosphere. The nibbles of meats and cheeses looked delicious - we were sitting at the bar and watched it being prepared, including with an amazing old hand-driven meat slicer - though I think the food is less good value than the wine, judging by the portions.
D. K.
Nice location thats quiet just off busy Carnaby street. Fine food, average in price, not very large portion sizes.
A. I.
Quaint and charming. Nice wines
P.
Great selection of wines.
L. L.
Nice food and warm relaxing atmosphere but very small portions for the price
M. M.
Staff was not so friendly and so rude at the same time - more like a neutral. Cheese platter was average and quite pricey. Wine selection is good. They use measuring glasses to pour wines into your glass and do not wash them before the next wine, which might affect the taste. All of that combined with 12.5% service charge makes the place not so attractive.
R. H.
We arrived on Friday night with a group of six people (because I'm a moron I'd actually booked the wrong day) but were found a table despite the restaurant being busy. The food was great, everyone agreed. An extensive wine list, the bottle we drank was very good value, great ambience, great location, really nice staff for whom nothing was too much trouble, can't fault this place.
H. A.
An extensive list of organic wines, great staff and nice to be just off the super crowded carnaby street. Chairs were a bit uncomfortable after a while...
O. V.
Beautiful selection of wines and snacks. Lovely and friendly staff as well.
C. D.
Nice selection of wine with friendly staff :)
M. H.
Quite a fine stop for a bit of wine and a bite. Wines are drift towards "natural" but stay clear of funky weird stuff and the French owners know their stuff.
m. r.
We just discover it yesterday. A place to appreciate wine and nibbles
D. B.
Very good wine and great service. I didn't have the food so I can't comment on it
A. F. G.
Great wine selection, lovely location and some helpful staff.
I come here a few times a year; it's quirky and has a lovely secluded location. This time I went with some french speaking friends. They live-translated the incredibly rude conversation between two french waiters who spent 30 minutes insulting guests in a foreign language, including us and our wine selction. Awkward.
We were given stale bread to boot...
Maybe things will change: this is otherwise a great spot and previously I have enjoyed a good time here.
A. B.
A true French restaurant, the staff were wonderful and happy to talk us through the menu. It is a cosy two storey building, the lower being the wine bar while upstairs is the restaurant seating. I had a reservation though there was seating available at 9pm on New Year's Eve so I wouldn't expect there to be problems finding a table. I hope to be back soon, if not for the incredible food (the sirloin steak was absolutely delicious), then for the friendly staff!
J. C.
Went there last night with my wife to celebrate our anniversary. It was a special occasion so I decided to order some fine expensive wine. My wife loves red wine and I decided to surprise her with her favourite - Terre Inconnue (a little bit expensive but totally worth it). We had a great unforgettable night and I would really like to thank everyone.
J. Z.
I discovered organic wines here. Nice experience and you can buy the bottles at retail price too.
S. M.
Good wine and food, well worth a visit
T. B.
Slow service, warm wine, good food
I. D.
Superb little French Bistro. Was introduced by a colleague for lunch. Amazing wine list and cellar. Reasonable prices for this area.
L. G.
Great place and an amazing selection of natural wines.
M. M.
A modern and airy wine bar with out the a stuffy nature.
Plenty of wine choices, and food too.
upstairs has a more of a bar vibe.
well worth an after work drink as an antidote to the pub.
C. M.
Not every deceived once in many years visiting. Fantastic food and staff.
A. C.
Great wine bar, friendly and welcoming atmosphere just off the bustle of Carnaby street. Specialising in off the beaten track wine producers who have adopted organic and biodynamic practises. Really enjoyable wines.
M. O. L.
one of the best Italians restaurants I have been in ages, food is delicious:)
J. P.
Take a nice bite of the cheese with a swig of the wine and trust me, it's divine. For the main we had both the pear salad and the crab appetizer. Their salad was great, the blue cheese and poached pair were the perfect combination. Overall, I like it! We like it!
T. C.
Well chosen wines, but has a sharp focus on modern styles leaving those with other preferences behind.
J. H.
Decent natural-wine bar; uncomfortable seats but a good selection of wines
S. W.
Cosy place, nice selection of wine
L. R.
Love this place but it is so unreliable as the Chef has changed every time I have eaten there, meaning a mixed bag of experiences that has landed in the middle with a three. Should be much better. The bar downstairs is busy and well thought out the dining room is a lovely spot especially at lunch with all the natural light. The only consistent part the bread baked at Hedone as there is some connection between the sites.
M. S.
Good but unmemorable food, easygoing service, relaxed vibe
J. L.
The place is really nice and they are very knowledgeable about wine but I am unsure about their waiting skills. We had ordered olives and a cheese platter and they brought two servings of olives with bread and butter. Not thinking about it we started eating the olives. We asked the waiter if this was included and he said that actually it was a mistake. He then took the 2nd plate of olives with the pits we had left on the side of it and brought it to the table next to us where a couple had ordered the items. Yes. He brought the half eaten plate of olives with pits on the side.
W. B.
One of my favorite spots in London. Wonderful wine list.
E. W.
Excellent prix fixe lunch menu. Great food and superb value.
M. F.
Very good wine and the bar is always buzzing with live
M. M.
Nice wine bar, was here two times for recommended Spanish and French whit wine. Together with Boquerones, Ham and Salami a nice combination.
L. O. (. O. S.
Love this little bar in Soho. Great organic wine list
N. C.
I love this place, it has the best bread in London (from Hedone) and wonderfully crafted dishes with quality ingredients. I had suckling pig here which sticks in the memory and also a superb venison dish. If you just fancy a glass of wine, that also works!
L. G.
Always has great wines on offer
K. P.
Amazing bistro in the heart of soho. Great list of wines.:-)
L. M.
Simply fantastic. The tasting menu is magnificent, my favorite place in London!
K. W.
Visiting here on a night out being paid, there was no question about money, so I went for a nice orange wine. Which was a mistake. One of my companions had a cider which was lovely and fresh, and another had a red wine.
I suspect if we asked the server a little more about the wines we might have been better off with our choices, however the wines were good quality.
So long as we ensure that next time we choose our wines more carefully, I would defiantly go back, but defiantly ask for a description of the wines for the less adept.
P. Y.
Great food, wine and atmosphere
D. W.
Rather pricey but good wine
h. l.
Best wine and cheese in London and fantastic staff!
S. E. I.
Favourite spot for a glass of wine and nice chat with friends!
J. M.
Nicely calm winebar—restful atmosphere and cosy without being twee and a a good change from the usual subterranean-type cellars with knowledgeable and helpful staff. As well as having an excellent range of wines, they do have some very good cider and more unusual offerings, like orange wine, that aren't easily found.
C. C.
Wine was lovely but when there are mice (yes plural) scurrying around and unphased by people is a bit worrying in regards to hygiene.
J. T.
Had wine & 3 cheeses. Nice but could do with more bread (which was awesome)
R. H.
Fun hole in the wine bar for a drink or a bite to eat.
A. M.
If I was naming a wine bar (and I hope to one day), Antidote would not be high on my list of choices. What is it the antidote for, other than perhaps a parching thirst? Or are they perhaps foreshadowing a bit of doom, in that you may need an antidote after partaking in their wines?
Contemplation behind the name aside, Antidote is a pretty good spot to meet for a drink and catch up with friends (or in this particular case some extended family). We had intended to go to Bob Bob Ricard's bar only to find out it has been closed down while they turn the space into "something exciting and cool" as we were informed by the tuxedoed hosts.
The restaurant has a scattering of tables and seats at the bar with easily twice as much space outside (although, quite reasonably, there was no one willing to brave the cold wintry weather outside - and here I thought we might actually get some spring sunshine). The décor is a bit rustic French in keeping with the wait staff whose accents may cause a bit of trouble when asking for a recommendation but in general add to the charm.
Our particular waiter/sommelier had a particularly heavy brogue but was not put off by our clueless expressions. He went so far as to offer us tastes prior to pouring a glass (an excellent idea that I think all wine bars should copy) to ensure we would enjoy our drink. And enjoy we did as every suggestion was spot on. For a bit of substance, my cousin asked for a light refreshing red and was offered a young wine a tad drier than it's age would suggest that tickled the tongue with tastes of strawberries and a red fruits. I opted for the older darker sibling made from 100% malbec grapes with a bolder full bodied flavour with deep notes of ripe plums and woody spices. No idea what either were called but I'd happily try them again. I'd suggest getting a bottle if you share similar tastes with friends as glasses range from £6-11 for 175ml (large glass).
We had a cheese platter with four cheeses providing a wide range from a smooth creamy brie-type to mild and sharp cheddar and finishing with a medium blue. Again, no idea what said cheeses were despite a long explanation by our sommelier turned affineur (apparently that's the correct term of a cheese expert - not a fromagier as I originally though). Tasty options at a very reasonable price.
Before we left, I noticed our guy tasting a cloudy slightly orange wine from a crystal decanter. Intrigued, I asked about it and learned it was a new Italian wine made with (or potentially from) oranges. Even better, he offered me a taste which I couldn't refuse. I have to say it was delicious with light citrus notes and a bit of sweetness from the orange but dry enough to make for a very easy to drink option. I could see that being served chilled as a perfect beverage for a warm summer day. Assuming we ever get said days in London...
P. W.
Nice and cosy wine bar. Good selection of wines
G. B.
Lovely ambience. Not loud. Lovely little pheasant pie.
R. L.
Interesting selection of wines. Staff could have been more interested and engaged.
H. P.
Has real potential to be an amazing hidden gem, but was slightly let down by the atmosphere and food. There was no music playing upstairs in the dinning room, so there was quite an awkward atmosphere upstairs, as you could hear everybody’s conversations. The food was presented very well, however was let down by the taste as each dish could have a lot more seasoning and lacked in punchy flavours.
Overall, we had a nice evening but I’m not sure I would go back again.
M. P.
Great choice of with es and very central..for after shopping hours.
A. J.
Super expensive wine bar that will leave your overdraft sobbing but your palate happy.
M. P.
Great wine list after shopping in central London!
L. G.
Food staff all very good
L. B.
good placed to try wine.
N. R.
One of the best places to eat in London right now
B. F.
Fantastic food, fresh and full of flavour
K. P. (.
Antidote is, by far, the most posh wine bar I've ever visited. The decor is the perfect mix of kitsch (thing stage lights on the ceiling and vintage items on display) so that it didn't feel Shoreditch hipster, but rather upscale eclectic. We sat upstairs where our table was a crate-upon-a-crate (which made it nice to look at and the perfect low-table height!), though there were other higher tables around. I had a glass of their special orange wine, which had a lovely bitter taste to it - but not so bitter you didn’t want to drink it. It had a great, deep aroma, which I really enjoyed. The toilets are all the way downstairs, so they are a bit of a treck (think ahead!) though you will get to climb a gorgeous wooden staircase with lots of great vintage items to look at.
G. D.
Nice place for an after dinner drink
K. O.
Great wine. Great food.
E. P.
had a great rose, very busy and very friendly place
K. C.
Wine prices are a bit on the high side when you add the service charge
A. M.
Of all the wines the house white is the best
A. S.
I've always stuck to subterranean wine bars lit only by candlelight. Antidote is pretty much the opposite, but I still thought it was wonderful. It's cosy with really interesting decor that most of our group stopped to snap (vintage and retro without being old-fashioned).
The menu is diverse and reasonably priced - glasses of wine start from £4, but they have interesting cider options too. Staff are also happy to make recommendations if you don't have a clue where to start. Provided you miss the 6-8pm weekday office crowd, this is a really pleasant place to sit for a few hours.

Great service, had a really nice time
