I went today & the service was great & efficient. Also the owner was very jovle & funny, cracking quite a few jokes making me feel really comfortable & at home. One of the regulars suggested that I try the chillie bites, which I did & wasn't disappointed to the point that I bought 2 more bags as takeaways for my daughter to try. All I can say is from my first impression & visit, I will definitely be returning with family & friends in tow too plus I've got a feeling that this might be my new home away from home, watering hole.

Hidden gem in plain sight! John and the team go out of their way to connect with everyone. I had a wonderful evening with great guinness and some great cocktails. Highly recommend you stop by and you will be hooked.

Tiny place but super cosy. Very “local” vibe and the team were all so friendly and hospitable. Only had beers and biltong this time - both fresh and delicious. It’s also super dog friendly - they even gave me a pack of dog biltong to take out.

The best place for Biltong and beer in London. Big John is an awesome host, as well as the amazing Biltong at a great price (£3.50 gets you loads!), we tried as a group the ribs and the buffalo wings with blue cheese sauce - would recommend to anyone! Lager, ale and cider on tap, plus plenty of bottles. Cash only, but plenty of cash machines nearby. Cosy place and well worth a visit!!

Came in on a whim looking for a bite to eat. The ribs were amazing, great beers, John & Zoe were great hosts and met some great folks. Worth popping in for sure and solidifies Deptford as a place to wonder.

By far my favourite bar in South East London. This place is very real, very fun and above all run by a legend. It's local bar, it's where strangers become friends and it's where you laugh until your sides hurt. The biltong is delicious 💜

Exceptional beer at very reasonable prices, but the real star of the show is the biltong and the jerk bites / chilli bites. Simply the best available in the UK (and much better than ordering from any website). Very friendly pub that makes you feel very welcome - John and Zoe do everything they can to make you feel welcome and at home. Very rare to find such a kind and friendly pub in London. Big John, Big bad John! Zoe is lovely and chats to everyone with a beaming smile! Try the different biltong with a cold beer! Love the sitting outside the high tables inside or roosting in the gloom of the back! John, you might want to try a wooden toilet seat as gaffer tape on thin plastic aint going to do it for anyone sitting down..... Eat, drink and talk the night away.... All good thing happen at Big John's Enjoy!

Swung by Big John's on the off chance it was doing some sort of business at these strange times , and glad to say he is well set up from the front of his bar with take out beer, (bring a receptical or lucky for me they had a jar). Food and of course lovely Biltong. Great to see this place is doing well despite the lockdown with people supporting it. Hope to visit again soon and when the pubs open for real . 🍺 Cheers

If you love biltong you won't get tastier or fresher. The owner makes the biltong himself (garlic, spicy etc), and it comes with lots of different spices to try on the board. And if you don't like biltong, try out the cocktails (we had a ginger beer one... Had real lovely bits of ginger in it. My new favourite place! Quirky and very friendly. Going to have to stop myself from going in every day...
