Reviews of Canton Arms
R. W.
Fabulous Sunday roast, we went for a Christmas party on Sunday 5th . Staff could not have been more helpful, from accommodating 11 people, giving us plenty of time at the table (2hr45) the selection of dishes was amazing, the beef shin stew and mash sharer was melt in the mouth. The rare roast beef Sunday roast was the best beef I have had in a while , with super tangy horseradish. Lamb shank was also a winner. Special note on the smoked eel starter - delicious . Trudy our waitress was on the ball, super quick at replenishing those wine bottles. Will definitely be back again .
S. B.
Really high quality food, good ingredients, and a menu that changes regularly. The Sunday roast is excellent, as is the foie gras.
P. B.
Delicious menu - every menu item looked and sounded amazing and I was only sad that I couldn't eat them all! Great pub, lovely food, very friendly staff, excellent value. A real treasure. Eat here, you won't be disappointed.
I. L.
Great food served with lots of larger sharing dishes like pies, lasagna, slow cooked lamb etc. We had the rabbit and smoked ham pie and it was delicious. Their chips were better than McDonald’s and we mean it as a compliment. Service was fast and friendly overall great experience we would definitely return. Pub is busy as usual but there is enough social distancing between tables.
T.
One of my favourite pubs in London. You can tell the landlord really loves this pub. Great food and a great vibe. Would really recommend
B. K.
Great staff, super fast and helpful. I unfortunately haven't got the opportunity to eat here yet but have only heard fabulous things. The beer and vibe is great for any day of the week! Recommended for a local!
B. N.
Great food and service, decent atmosphere and a good wine list. Not cheap, mind.. £38 for a pie (to share) is asking a lot. Half a star knocked off for the pie crust bring over-salted, another half for the dreadful state of the gents toilets. Worth a visit, though.
E. T.
Can’t say enough good things about this place! Yes we did wait almost two hours to be seated for Sunday roast on a packed Sunday afternoon and yes it was crazy busy...but the older woman who works here kept everything under control and always checked in on us to make sure we were alright up until the moment we left. The roast was phenomenal!
L. L.
Lucky enough to find this place for a fabulous Sunday roast during our trip to London. Our party of four had drinks, appetizers and dessert. Everything was delicious and service was very good. Wish we could fly over for Sunday roast every week!
B. B.
Lovely lunch at the Canton arms. The wait for a table was long but we sat at the bar and had a couple of drinks. The food was good but the dessert was unimpressive and disappointing.
P. S.
Excellent chicken and smoked ham pie for 2. Wines not expensive and good service. An oasis in its area.
W. M.
High quality food. Densely packed, but we'll worked out place. Certainly a bit of an upper class pub.
L. C.
Decent selection of wines by the glass, food quite underwhelming. Staff snooty and smug. Ordered a lasagne which came out like steamed mince and pasta sheets and waaaayyyy too much water instead of a rich tomato based sauce...told the waiter only to be told that’s how lasagne is meant to be ... wouldn’t come again.
l. r.
enjoyed sunday roast, my favourite dish with my family. the waiter was very helpful
C. C.
Great atmosphere. Attentive service. Time to browse menu. Food beyond delicious. Staff wearing masks, doors open tables spaced out
A. G.
Geat meals and friendly service, came here for dinner with wife and child, wife had best hake she has had in a long time! Quail was not over cooked despite having alot of places to visit london to eat we made time to come back here a second time.
W. C.
We had the short rib on the Sunday roast. Roast was fantastic. The bread was amazing, but we were disappointed to find out that we couldn’t order any more on top of the first order as they had to ration for the rest of the day. Service was timely, but please make more bread!
Á. M.
Good drinks, fairly priced. Before they hand you the menu make sure they let you know what dishes they're out of as everything is fresh and unfortunately popular dishes on daily menu will sell out.
O.
Excellent food and service. Particularly good for speciality meat dishes to share, but at the same time providing delicious and interesting selection of vegetarian dishes. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves each of the many times I have met friends here for supper.
M. M.
Ticks both boxes ☑️quality food and ☑️ classic boozer. If you can get a table for Sunday lunch check the. You will not be disapointed. If you just need a snack then I recommend the haggis toastie.
M. B.
Worth venturing to this part of London for if you're not local. Really enjoyed my food and wine (great recommendations from the waitress), service was great as was the atmosphere.
J. C.
Delicious food that is worth the wait!! Was about an hours wait on Sunday at 1pm but the food was simply divine!!
P. L.
Looks really nice inside. Good selection of ales and beer.
J. w.
Amazing food! Incredibly fresh! Great atmosphere and terrific service!
J. V.
We love this place - the ambience, the sensational food, excellent staff. We are never disappointed. It's our local - all season.
Our kids are pretty well behaved & eat well (experiment with new tastes & flavours) thing that would be great is one or two kiddie friendly plates for the non-adventurist types. I totally get it that a foodie place does not to downgrade to sausage & chips - but there could be a compromise?
T. T.
Our party of four had a very enjoyable meal last Friday evening. The staff were welcoming, helpful and professional but the atmosphere was very relaxed. The lasagne for two was delicious and our friends were very impressed with the vegetarian dishes. Another great dining experience at the Canton Arms is the reason we keep coming back.
P. P.
Incredible eatery for foodies.Lunches and dinners are an experience in culinary delights for all taste.I highly recommend it, it has an unpretentious dining room as the emphasis is on the exceptional food they serve.Professional venture with very friendly staff, it will not disappoint.
M. M.
Very disappointed with both service and quality of the food. Staff was friendly but they let me sit there for ages not asking whether I wanted to eat or see the menu. Had to go to the bar myself - which is even more confusing in Covid times, some guidance and welcoming words when you come in would be nice.
The food was pretty ordinary. A huge portion of meat though. But just on tasteless overcooked vegetables. I think it was spinach mixed with some beans. Nothing of the expected coriander and spices as per the menu to make it a bit more creative. Also glancing on to other people's tables it didn't look like they were making foodie style efforts. Most other guests where only there to have a pint anyway.
S. M.
I visited with a group after attending a nearby event fairly late on a weekday evening. Some of our group wanted to eat but you can't go into the dining area unless everyone in a group is eating, and you can't take food through from there to the bar area, which is a shame. We ended up eating bar snacks for dinner.
The beer selection was more traditional than craft. It's worth being aware that there is a minimum spend of £5 on cards.
T.
It has long been a bit of an institution in the area and the food never disappoints . It comes as no surprise that trying to book a table can be difficult. Book early to secure a good night out with amazing food.
L. P.
Good quality food, not your average pub faire. Have been eating here for at least five years. Never had any reason to complain.
A. D.
Great local pub. Have not tried the food but I will do so soon. I am excited as their menu looks delicious.
C. H.
Love this pub! Such a lovely atmosphere and great choice of beers and wines. The only negative is their red wine glasses are too small and cheap.
Considering how much a glass of red is here and how delicious it is, I’d love it to be served in a proper large red wine glass.
R. B.
We had a fantastic meal here - 7 hour salt marsh lamb (for “5 ish”) it was perfectly cooked and served and a great meal to share.
It’s a fantastic pub - the staff are friendly, helpful and attentive - but the food is just a step beyond.
M. W.
How I wish we have a pub like this in Notting Hill! Very good seasonal food, pleasant service and wonderful ambience.
K. T.
Very tiny venue quite ok I think , but I think there's more people located in a dessert than this pub. Quite peculiar.
h. n.
Just had probably the best meal of 2020- short rib of Dexter beef .Wonderfully tender and tasty. For two but would easily have gone round three. Also a lovely fruity Beaujolais. If I could give this meal 7 stars I would.Good warm lively atmosphere but a bit noisy.
N. M.
Great food, I had Persian meatballs and chips which were very good but maybe could have done with another accompaniment. But what I had was faultless.
d.
Food was pretty tasty throughout, but starters and desserts were rather overpriced for the portion size. Would return just for the main course however, and the sharing dishes looked particularly impressive.
Service speed seemed to be at the diner's discretion; unless you asked for something to be cleared away, or asked to order you were left to your own devices (Friday night visit).
Good range of beers available on tap
C. S.
Top quality ales, equally top food. Brilliant service. Absolutely nothing not to enjoy....
A. B.
Great little pub with great wine choices and a great looking menu, offering toasties as a bar snack is genius, only thing stopping them from getting a 5th star is you can not just order a bowl of chips as a bar snack. Didn't want to sit down down for a full meal so slightly disappointing.
Dog friendly which always adds to the ambiance in my opinion too :) Will 100% return
N. N.
Fabulous little joint in Stockwell serving up some of the most amazing pub grub with seasonal ingredients. Friendly staff who are passionate about quality food and drinks; very dog friendly too. Love Canton Arms!
A. C.
First time coming back here in 3 years. Used to be a bit of a Sunday regular for me , but had moved away from the area.
Food was excellent as was the lovely lady who was serving myself and my husband. Had been really looking forward to showing my husband what has been one of my favourite little Sunday lunch gem's.
Unfortunately really let down by the obnoxious man serving at the bar. For some unknown reason took and instant dislike to us.
Made what I think was the worst unloved bloody mary I had seen .then seemed to just grunt and roll his eyes when we ordered a drink and slam the glasses down. If it wasn't for the fact I was putting on a brave face to show my husband somewhere I have wanted to take him for the past 2 and half years I would of said something .
But anyway great food as always and great team just let down by one very rude barman .
M. S.
Great service, great menu, great local pub. Even let us stay longer at our table than expected 👌🏼
B. L.
Really good food and a pleasant atmosphere.
N. P.
I had foie gras and lamb shank. The meal was fine but not great.
F. W.
Really great roast, on the smaller side and very delicious. Staff were accommodating in finding us a table and recommending drinks and starters too. Good atmosphere.
P. H.
Last night we all agreed that chef was on top form and we had best meals we had ever eaten at the Canton Arms - Dexter beef Lasagna was definitely the high spot! The staff were very busy as it was totally packed but they still found time for a smile and a jolly comment - Incredulous at the amount we ate!
D. F.
An absolutely wonderful pub - beautiful, lovely staff, great bar snacks, good wine list and the best food I will ever have in a pub. I say that with confidence. If I could afford to I'd probably never eat anywhere else.
H. H.
A great local pub with a relaxed atmosphere. A good choice of wine (love the house rose) and ale and staff that are knowledgeable about what they are serving. The highlight of this place though is the restaurant, which serves an ever changing seasonal menu, focused on British food. Expect to pay restaurant rather than pub prices, but that's to be expected when the food is of this quality.
I run a local Airbnb and often send my guests to Canton Arms. They almost always have very positive feedback and some have reported that it was the best food they've tasted during their visit to London.
The only reason I am not giving it five stars is because of one visit where unfortunately the waitress was exceptionally rude (unusual, as the staff are normally great). It's a shame to let one incident cloud an otherwise positive view, but on that particular occasion, it was possibly the worst service I've ever experienced! I was shocked also at the manager's complete refusal to accept that we had any right to complain about it.
M. C.
Great pub off the beaten track in Stockwell. Has a nice selection of beers and a very relaxed atmosphere. There is also a restaurant around the back behind the bar which has some great food. Highly recommended for a Sunday roast. You can't book in advance so make sure to get there in plenty of time.
L. E.
Really nice, hard-working staff. Great beers and cocktails available (the canton pimms is delicious.) Best pub food I've ever eaten. We all really enjoyed it. I'm a chef and used to work in a chain pub where the food wasn't as good due to all the limitations set by the ownership. But this is how it should be and what I'd aim for were I to run my own pub. Well done The Canton arms
L. C.
Always popular! It's actually a very tidy, fresh definitely 'upmarket' from the regular spit and saw dust pubs you'd probably expect in around that area. Great service, amazing drink choices and inviting atmosphere explains why this place is often busy.
S. M.
Drink are pricey for the area. But the food is bloody phenomenal, if you're looking for a roast with a the family or group of friends this the place to come too. They also have a good collection of books and board games, an outside smoking area which is great in the summer.
S.
Great food and drinks, service friendly and welcoming.
The only downside is the silly policy of not being allowed to take your table until the whole party is present. It would be understandable if once you could all tables were taken but on this occasion there were quite a few still free and they remained free until our party left.
Would however definitely return and look forward to doing so.
J. C.
I'm a regular and therefore biased, but I really like the Canton. There has been a pub here for at least 120 years - my wife's great-granfparents met here. The front is a traditional pub & the back a dining room, however unless they are really busy it is fine to eat the (Michelin mentioned) menu in either setting. Friendly staff (although that may be because I'm a regular - I've heard from friends that they have been made to feel unwelcome, especially if they are deemed to be insufficiently middle-class).
Beer is fine, food is excellent and it's very dog and child-friendly (which may be a plus or minus depending on your views). Not cheap though.
M. A.
We went there because of a recommendation by our host. The atmosphere is cosy. They have a daily changing menu and the food is awesome. It is a little on the pricey side but worth the money. Also the staff is great, friendly and attentive. All thumbs up
S. R.
Nice pub. Good food. Popular.
K. G.
By far the best local pub with seriously good (and often innovative food) near Stockwell. Proper ciders, unusual spirits (some flavoured by the chef).and artisan and independent beers. Food is always interesting.- seasonal and at times unconventional combinations of flavours and textures. Modern European in style, grounded in British. Tables are small and there are sharing tables to accommodate small parties and late arrivals. Can be noisy but is always enjoyable.
C. S.
I went here last week with a friend's suggestion. I like the location of the place. It wasn't too far from my house. The beer varieties were pretty much, but I only ate food. The food was nice and fresh. Overall I was satisfied.
J. C.
Such a great menu- totally refreshing for a pub! Lovely staff, good prices and great outdoor seating with heat lamps
C. C. U.
Not too impressed unfortunately. Came as the reviews said there were big portions and friendly staff. Instead we found staff abrupt and the portions small. Beef was, in their defence, good for the Sunday Roast. Not happy that they automatically added a service charge to the bill at the end. We don't feel it was deserved.
J. C.
I have been to this pub a couple times and the food has both times been excellent. I had the slow cooked lamb a few days ago and it was really special. The only reason I am giving 3 stars is because our waiter was really rude. He was very short with us and seemed entirely uninterested with serving us. He was always half walking off while I was still ordering from him. I think maybe because he wanted to finish his shift. He did at one point say something rude which I reacted to, he then apologised but then carried on in completely the same vain for the rest of the meal. One of the bar team was a bit short with my girlfriend at one point when she tried to order something but was then really nice 10 minutes later so a bit strange. The service is the only thing that is preventing a 4 star rating. Although the decor could probs do with a bit of an upgrade actually.
A. O.
Haven't eaten there yet but a nice friendly pub. Open plan pub with a dining section at the rear. The bar only has 4 real ales on tap, one tasted a little off but great service and was replaced. Prices approx £4 per pint in November 2016
O. D.
Seriously amazing food. I now come here all the time! Menu changes every night, so the quality requires even more skill.
Not quite enough sophistication for a Michelin star meal though some dishes come close.
If you don't live in the area, I would recommend a detour. Any home cook would really enjoy the food!
My suggestion - order something outside your comfort zone - and if you don't know what some of the menu items are then ask a waiter to take you through it. They all seem to love working here and I can see why!
J. H.
Meh. Food was good but nothing remarkable, not much choice on the menu for veggies, quite overpriced for what is generally small portions. Service wasn’t amazing either. Wouldn’t return.
M. C. Z.
A hidden gem in Stockwell. They don't take bookings but you can have a drink in the pub while waiting to be seated. The menu a la carte is good, but the daily meat specials made with unsual cuts (e.g. lamb neck) are unbeatable, make sure you ask the waiter about them. Pretty good wine list, and excellent service. Only small problem: it can get extremely loud at peak time and you'll have to shout across the table to have a conversation - it's not the music, rather the way ambient noise bounces off the walls.
B. S.
Absolutely fantastic. Delightful, hardworking staff - and the food was utterly delicious. The chefs here really know what they’re doing; the care for the food they make came out in every dish we ordered.
J. L.
The food here is reasonable but a bit overpriced, it's not a place I'd go for a special occasion. One thing that really gets on my nerves is butter that is rock hard straight out of the fridge. Our waiter told us that it is not 'that kind of place' in respect of serving burgers or fish & chips, which I thought was a little snooty in the context of such poor attention to detail.
M. M.
Really hearty food, nice atmosphere. Sadly the service wasn’t great, waiters were a bit arrogant and aggressive at times (eg when I asked why we had been charged for two portions of veg for £7 when we got a small bowl they just shrugged and said that’s what we gave you).
I. H.
The best place to eat in the area. Not strictly speaking cheap but excellent value for money. Interesting decor inside, beer terrace out front. Constantly changing menus catering for all tastes. Make sure to check out the specials boards too, with some hearty dishes made for three, four or five people to share, but they seem to go quickly. Great food
A. G.
A pub with real classical character. All the usual cask ales, food, etc although on this visit I did not eat anything. Plenty of space to hv a relaxing drink. Paradoxically this location is in the middle of a v active Portuguese community. You can buy almost anything Portuguese in the local shops. No need to speak Portuguese, not even in the Caxton, but if yr English is not v strong Portuguese wld be a good alternative.
O. O.
Excellent food, homely menu using local ingredients. You will be encouraged to get adventurous with the ever changing menu, but never disappointed. The sharing dishes are especially excellent. The bar itself is cosy and welcoming and the staff excellent. A well deserved Bib Gourmand to boot.
S. M.
Consistently very high quality food, top grade cooking, interesting menus, attentive staff, great wine list, lovely beers, fabulous value for money. I only wish they’d cater better to vegetarians.
M. L.
Called up to ask a genuine question about whether they thought they would be full in a few hours time and got a bit of a sarcastic reply. Went anyway as had read that the food was pretty good.
Choice of food was great, looked like I just ordered the wrong thing. Ordered a beef roast which came with a good quantity of meat, but that was about it. a few peas and roast potatoes doesn't really warrant the £17 price tag. Was expecting at least some roast parsnips, carrots or in all honesty, just a bit of variety to the plate.
The beef was good quality though so can't complain on that front!
G. W.
Roast beef was amazing! Everything cooked to perfection. Arrived at 2 and had to wait just over an hour for a table but it was worth the wait! A little expensive but I don't mind when the food is that good.
G. G.
I’ve dined and sipped here for a few years. The food is good but not cheap and the wine selection is always good.
The restaurant staff are great but at the bar the staff can be short, goodness knows why, we’re customers after all.
N. S.
A real tradition style 'boozer' with a great restaurant out the back. Fast, efficient, no nonsense staff, a great selection of changing ales (but always including that Cornish favourite Betty Stogs), and some seating outside overlooking the road - probably it's only negative. It gets very busy on a Sunday, so arrive early as they don't take bookings.
P. R.
Nice pint outside and with great track and trace and cleanliness but was going to go an eat, menu just wasn't to my taste. Nothing reasonable for lunch, little over priced
F. O.
Lovely meal with friends and a lovely waitress
S. K.
The Canton Arms serves gastropub standard food prepared with authentically sourced ingredients (meat, vegetables, bread etc.) at reasonable prices. The menu is changed every day. The actual pub has a wide selection of lagers and beers including some "real ales" & there is seating inside & outside the pub (on the pavement). The bar staff are always friendly and efficient..
F. i. h. w.
Disapointing. We had a look at the ratings here and were pretty excited. Excitement was still on when we pushed the door and entered the place : it's exactly how an old pub should be. And it was crowded, which is usually a very good sign.
Sadly diapointment started when we sat down: very sticky table & barely cleaned cutlery. Then came the service : polite but not really into it.The wine I picked was awful (£6 for a glass... wow). And then the food. We have a mixed experience here as my fish was really well cooked and delicious but my gf had the ham and it was way too salty. How bad : this place looked so promising!
S. H.
Celebrated my birthday here yesterday with a lovely meal. Great service, tasty food and nice to have a bit of 'normality' after months of lockdown.
R. W.
A nice pub with a friendly feel even in the middle of the afternoon. Decent selection of cask beer on 4 handpumps, although a bit expensive @ £4.70 A pint.
B. A.
Favourite pub in this area. Lovely character, friendly staff and good atmosphere. Bar snacks available and they have a dining area in the back but I've yet to try the food.
A. A.
Good choice of beer and amazing playlist!
G. M.
You wouldn't expect much from this pub, because of its location 10 minutes' walk from Stockwell. However The Canton Arms is a real gem!
I had lunch at this Michelin-starred gastropub on a very special day and I really needed the lunch to be perfect! It didn't let me down: the food and service were top quality. We arrived around 2pm on a Saturday (there's a no booking policy) and while we easily found a table for 7 people, a few items on the menu of the day were already sold out. So my suggestion is to go there early.
Ask the waiters for recommendations on what to order and which wine to pair the dish with. They are very helpful and knowledgeable.
S. F.
Lovely stop along a long walk from Mayfair to Brixton. Gorgeous looking Sunday menu - just had a glass of wine, but the place was classic and in wanted to stay for more. Loved it!
E. D.
Probably the best pub in London. It really is a hidden gem. Have one of the sharing 7 hours slow cooked plates (e.g. neck or shoulder of lamb), enjoy the many ales and some of their home made aperitifs and try the desserts even if they dont sound exciting because they will be!
G. H.
One of London's best gastropubs. Have been many times over the last few years. Great ale. Good bar staff. Fantastic kitchen. Yummy food. 😎
s. b.
We sat at the bar and upon arrival I made an enquiry regarding a bottle of wine that I could see in the fridge . The first member of staff I asked wasn't sure what it was as they were new, he asked his colleague who also wasn't too sure about the wine other than it cost £50. We ordered beer. Speaking of beer they have a very limited and poor selection consisting of mostly macro lagers and Timothy Taylor's Golden best on cask. Surely the only reason for them carrying this beer is that they're tied ? So onto the food, I was recommended the plaice which I promptly ordered and my friend went for the lamb. The starter of burrata was gorgeous, the texture was spot on, firm on the outside and creamy on the inside, not entirely sure about the sliced courgette but I guess it was there to provide a contrast of texture and perhaps a little acidity as it had been gently pickled I believe. The mains took absolutely ages to arrive. I immediately regretted ordering the fish as I remembered how litle meat there is on the bone, it was covered in sauce with peas , samphire and cherry tomatoes. Simple but in no way did it elevate the dish. Thankfully my friend gifted me a piece of his lamb which was beautifully cooked and seasoned. I begrudgingly watched him finish his dish with a look of triumph and glee on his face. The bill came to a total of £71 including service and I couldn't help feeling that it genuinely wasn't worth it. Perhaps if I'd ordered the lamb I would have forgiven them for not being able to sell wine and being perveyors of bland industrial beer.
M. O.
Nice pub with a good selection of ales. Food is good but a bit overpriced for what you get. When the restaurant is busy the service can be very slow.
A. S.
10/10 beef will definitely be back
T. D.
Superb food and service - this is the sort of place that both 1) sources good British produce 2) nails the execution of cooking it 3) serves it simply and with a smile.
An excellent, excellent informal dining space with impeccable food and service.
O. T.
Love this pub....superb food
R. S.
Fantastic food especially if dining in groups. We had the beef rib and goat neck. It was delicious. Unfortunately range of beers nothing to write home about. Service was friendly.
J. I.
Gruff unenthusiastic service. Food always excellent - well seasoned and balanced and varies daily. Arrive, once they run out of Leave Creuset pots or baking dishes it's over.
G. S.
Lived next door and always wondered why we didn’t spend more time there - their food is fantastic, cosy atmosphere and general all rounder. Tip: they use to make their own Damson and Sloe gin (small supply).
H. M.
Went here because a friend of mine said the food was excellent, I had the Lamb and it was very good but a little pricier then I was expecting. The coffee was good as well. However, I was disappointed with the staff, they were not very friendly or helpful which brought the experience down a bit.
K. A.
Awesome food! Very friendly and patient staff definitely heading there again soon for that lamb! 🤤
H. B.
This is an atmospheric pub with very well-kept Betty Stoggs and great bar snacks, as you'd expect from a gastropub.
If you're heading here for dinner you're best off sticking to the big sharing meals (usually whole shin of beef or shoulder of lamb) which are delicious and not badly priced. You need a minimum of three people for these as they are big. The other dishes are a bit of a gamble - I suspect there are a few different chefs working different days, so quality varies quite a bit. Good wine list too.
In terms of bar snacks the haggis toastie is well worth a go and good value. Cheese and beans is also available if you don't fancy haggis.
Service is perfectly ok, not unusually friendly but efficient and polite.
C. H.
London's best kept secret. Don't let the exterior fool you; the beer is on-point and the restaurant produces food your nan would be proud of. All that for an honest price.
V. I.
Great pub with huge collection of wine and beer!
Very nice and warm atmosphere with quality service and reasonable prices!
Food is delicious and portions are quite big.
C. S.
Great warm atmosphere. Old boozer mixed with essential country dining. Great game meats on the menu with amazingly, friendly and knowledgeable staff! Will be back for more!
G. K.
Absolutely fantastic service and food on a busy evening. Highly recommend.
T. J.
Absolutely *perfect* slow cooked lamb, very friendly service and great drinks selection. Everything you need.
S. L.
Really nice local pub. Menu changes daily so make sure you check before you go. They don't take bookings so get early gets busy
M. B.
Charming pub. Very good food. Nice people.
A. G.
The wait is quite long (approximately 40 minutes). We ordered the Sunday roast, and it was definitely worth it. They don't take reservation, and the whole Sunday roast is good for 5 people.
S. M.
Nice pub to come across, got a dated, vintage look inside, quite a lot of character, didn't try the food but drinks were average price-£5.60 a pint.
H. S.
Great pub, good selection of beers, good cocktails, which are reasonably priced...a joy in London. Food is strong as well, and the bar staff are always pretty friendly.
m. h.
Foodwise, the large casserole based dishes (for groups) are more appetising vs. single plates, that are not executed as well. Overall, you get better VFM at more established restaurants. As a pub /bar its quite nice though.
G.
What can I say...This pub always delivers. One of the best roast dinners in London and not too pricy. King may it continue to be best in class :)
R. H.
Love this pub, food is excellent and great selections of beers. If the sun is out the front tables are great disputes being next to a main Rd.
D. P.
Lively pub with a very diverse clientele, loved the craft beers and will come back.
N. S.
A real tradition style 'boozer' with a great restaurant out the back. Fast, efficient, no nonsense staff, a great selection of changing ales (but always including that Cornish favourite Betty Stogs), and some seating outside overlooking the …
Z. C.
Only had drinks but the food around us looked and smelt amazing. Family place, good service and constantly busy.
A. C.
First time coming back here in 3 years. Used to be a bit of a Sunday regular for me , but had moved away from the area.
Food was excellent as was the lovely lady who was serving myself and my husband. …
R. W.
A nice pub with a friendly feel even in the middle of the afternoon. Decent selection of cask beer on 4 handpumps, although a bit expensive @ £4.70 A pint.
J. S.
Delightful atmosphere, with a stunning selection of nuts, crisps and other savoury snacks !!1!
O. L.
Best pub in Stockwell area. Try the cheese toasties for the full experience
E.
£30 for one person three course meal, with a glass of water and complimentary bread. Service charge was automatically added to the bill. Staff were pleasant.
D. M.
Great little pub. Friendly staff and good selection of beers.
J. H.
A very nice pub.
T. C.
A warm traditional style pub which sits on the busy road between Vauxhall and Stockwell. There's a decent selection of beers and ales on offer and the fold from the restaurant behind the bar is very popular.
T. S.
Food and service was nice but it’s expensive for what it is. Cheddar and Mushroom Pie with greens translates to a wedge of cold quiche with lettuce.
J. S.
Great local pub with constantly changing hearty food. Typically one or two big sharers like the 7hr slow cooked lamb.
M. S.
Small traditional pub. Dining area at the back gets priority over the drinking area. Felt a bit squashed in, but the restaurant seats fill quickly.
R. A.
Delicious food and did well with a happy 2 yr old too.
K.
Great food, good service, shame you can't book a table but, when you have the 7 hour lamb shoulder, you'll instantly forget you waited.
J. F.
Service was quick and friendly. Quite a selection of ales, beers, wines, etc. Food was quite tasty. A bit on the expensive side though.
L. M.
Broccoli to die for, I am actually going to hang myself after this meal because similarly to the inmates on death row, I want the best meal as my last. Farewell and thank you.
C. C.
Nice friendly and popular pub. Very much a 'local' - unpretentious and fairly priced
J. F.
This is the way to do a pub with food. Focus on flavour. Separate drinking and eating area. No bookings. Sometimes a little disappointed by the wine.
M. W.
I love the Canton. Last visit my sea trout was slightly over cooked, my partner's slightly under. Still very good.
M. Š.
Was looking for a place to go with friends after dinner in the area and this place was the best choice- nice lighting (not to dark but still dark enough to make the atmosphere) quick service and big terrace if you wanna sit outside.
I. P.
Amazing food! So unexpected and wonderfully made. My husband and I had no idea the food would be so good!
N. M. E.
Good pub. Food looks good but not tried it. It's become quite trendy (i.e. full of hipsters).
G. H.
The Lamb stew is one of the best things I've ever eaten that my Mam didn't cook. A great place with a group of mates
E. J.

N. G.
This fantastic pub has one of the best restaurants in Britain in the back. Outstanding food.
T. I.
Beautiful, traditional pub with excellent real ales and toasted sandwiches!
S. G.
Still good gastro fare, but I sense a slide in quality. It's not quite as rich, delicious and careful as it used to be.
P. H.
It’s a nice place the food is okay some of the stuff needs slight bit more training apart from that its fine
K. V.
Classic pub. Cosy place with great menu options for a Sunday lunch.
W. S.
Top notch london pub spot. I really like the fact they do large cuts for 3-4 people. Shoulder of lamb etc. And rabbit!!

(Translated) If you go for lunch on Mondays except Mondays, you can taste the bistro. It is a delicious English meal that is hard to taste in the UK. It's far from the city center, so it's worth a visit, as it is registered several times in the Bibgurmang.
