Reviews of Crooked Billet
D. M.
Crooked Billet has this country side feeling when you enter the pub, I love it.
It quite spacious, clean and great seating has large open fire in the panty area. It's a dog friendly zone.
The food is freshly made and tasty. The only downfall why it was given 3* The service is very slow.
The staff we're friendly and helpful.
We ordered drinks, it took a good 20 to 25 minute we had to go and call someone to take our food order.
After ordering our food we wait a good while for the food to come and to pay the bill we had to call someone again. It's a lovely pub but the staff need to pay attention to the area we're they are working.
Parking available in the side roads.
P. L. R.
Good comfy pub with a log fire. Plenty of dining space and room for drinkers around the bar. Good place for a pint after a refreshing walk on the common.

This is a lovely pub and I come here often for a drink. Great atmosphere and friendly service, and it is superbly furnished and decorated, I feel more relaxed every time I come here to unwind.
I’m giving it 3 stars because I haven’t enjoyed my dining experiences here. I had food here once 2 years ago, where my father in law had a meal which he threw up later on during the night, then recently for our anniversary break I had a £38 steak which was mostly chewy fat, which I was very disappointed with. I won’t be dining here again but sad I said it’s a great place for a drink

Nice pub, and I like the fact that the front area is first come first served and turns over quickly, so don't lose heart of you haven't made a reservation. There is also a dining room behind for reservations.
We had Sunday Roast, came very quickly, was a bit school foody, but still hit the spot - but I find opinions on roasts so subjective.
Very happy overall.

We reserved the restaurant for 26 people for our post wedding ceremony meal. The crooked billet were amazing, exceptional food, accounting for a variety of food intolerances. The service was really relaxed and they were happy to be flexible with the timings of the courses. Wonderful end to our day thank you!!
R. B.
Epic pub. Country feel with great food and beer
D. F.
Another deceptively large tradional pub on the edge of Wimbledon Village. Food is very good, staff upbeat and helpful and, when I was there the other night, a lovely friendly atmosphere. First came here in the late 70's but it's better than ever today.
C. W.
Great cosy village pub, full of dogs & families.
C. G.
Excellent food. Big portions. Great service, lovely friendly staff who looked after us brilliantly
J. G.
Such a lovely evening meal had here! The food was great, hearty & tasty. The crumble was a MUST!!
The service was also fantastic, all of the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive!
Loved all the personal touches also, with the table coasters being photos of regular customers dogs 😍 highly recommend!
J. K.
Warm welcome with friendly, informative staff. Measures are in place for safety, but the atmosphere still felt like a regular night out at the pub. All the food was delicious and presented beautifully. We finished our meal with some lovely Irish coffees, which looked fantastic as well
J. R.
Food was very good but, the drink prices were very over the top. GBP11.70 for 250ml of so, so, Sauvignon Blanc.

The Angus beef Sunday roast tastes Fabulous! The only thing to improve is add more gravy. I ran out of gravy half way through. So I have to steal gravy from my partner's plate.
My partner's roast pork is not as tender as the one we had in hand in hand. If I want to have pork roast on Sunday. I might give it a second thought.
The sticky pudding is right on the point. I love the pudding sitting on top of pool of sauces. YUMmmm.
S. C.
Never yet had a bad meal and experience here. Very relaxed family pub and dog-friendly.
C. P.
Great local pub and restaurant. Great Sunday lunch , very tasty and good choice of drinks.
Expensive but you get what you pay for.
D. J.
Great venue.
Fantastic staff.
BUT
Food very overpriced with tiny portions and very basic qauilty. Avoid the burgers.
We decided to forget about desert as they wanted £8 per desert and judging by the rest of our meal we decided it wasn't worth it. Shame really.
S. F.
Came here because of the name. Clearly a family place. Menu interesting but not long, food was well prepared and served promptly. Staff seem good. Comfortable seating. I'd have liked somewhere better to lock up my bike than the pub signpost outside.
M. C.
Lovely friendly pub dog friendly food good can fully recommend.
K. D.
Charming pub on the edge of Wimbledon common. Lovely selection of Sunday roasts. Child friendly.
j. n.
Brilliant pub. Nicely refurbished. Friendly staff, quick service and good food. Would go back definitely.
T. M.
Lovely pub. More expensive than central London. Bit posh and full of dog walkers. Otherwise lovely range of beers. And has the best beer on earth on tap. So that's a plus.
L. T.
Lovely pub by Wimbledon common. Great selection of beers including my favourite Neck Oil. Inside is very cosy style old school pub. Perfect for winter beers. Outside has deckchairs on the green for summer drinks. Food is good and caters for vegans.
This is a legendary pub. I have been going here for last 15years. Strongly recommend it ...enjoy.

Visited yesterday after a funeral and the staff were wonderful. The food was delicious and the overall experience was really good.
T. K.
Very good Sunday roast, big portions! Crumble was OK but the topping was like gravel which was a shame
G. M.
The young fella who served us was super friendly and efficient. A really great pub in a good location, handy for the Common.
T. W.
A very nice relaxed place. Friendly staff.
A very good experience overall.
N. P.
Extremely Good, but not as good as the hand in hand which is the single greatest pub ever.
N. S.
The green patch out the front is huge so a safe bet for a sunny day, if you don't mind lots of kids dashing about. Service is slow in the pub though and staff leave the bar even if there's a lot of people waiting. When we did get our drinks, the £8 aperol spritz was actually an £8 pint of soda water. Much better pubs in the area.
S. C.
Nice quiet pub in a lesser known part of the Wimbledon area.
Tried to use their app to order though, and after jumping through hoops to sign up, register my card (which charged me!) And figuring it out, the app said it wasn't taking orders!
C.
The food here is brilliant. 🍔✨ Just down the road from Wimbledon Village, this little gem boasts a hearty menu with some fun vegetarian options too (which actually aren't boring, amazing stuff). 🥗🎉 Their puddings are delectable; I'd recommend saving room for them. The sticky toffee pudding was 👌
Drinks are on the expensive side and my friends really didn't enjoy the mulled wine. I had pineapple juice though which I really liked.
Service was friendly, helpful, and efficient. We stayed until closing and were never bothered at all. It has a cosy atmosphere; you'll feel very snug, tucked into your table with friends, the lull of conversation in the background, and warm food in front of you.
M. C.
Great service, excellent menu, great atmosphere.
Friendly staff made us very welcome.
M. R.
Such a great find. Good selection of beer, staff really great, restaurant, bar food, and great decor
c. w.
Pretty decent pub on the green. Wasn't actually sitting inside but enjoyed the seemingly new deck chairs available for free use out front,. When i did go inside to the bar staff were friendly and atmosphere was warm and sociable. Will visit again
K. J.
Delicious roast beef with giant Yorkshire pudding!
J. K.
Very frendly staff.
Nice drinks.
Near by free parking space after 3PM.
M. R.
Very nice pub, a good selection of drinks on tap. Plenty of space/tables inside. Food was really good, service was quick and staff were very friendly.
A. c.
Dog friendly, lovely deck chaors on the grass out the front, a bit pricey but relatively standard for Wimbledon... definitely worth checking out (particularly with your pup/dog as just by Wimbledon Common)
A. I.
Quaint pub with lots of outside seating on deck chairs. Very efficient and friendly service. Decent selection of larger/ ales. Food tasty and reasonably priced.
J. B.
This is a nice place to visit. Lovely building on the edge of Wimbledon common. It is a Young's pub so they have decent beer but it is now a good dining experience. The staff are great . They managed responsible Covid behaviour and still managed to keep things pleasant and relaxed. The food was nice. It maybe did not quite match the 'Gastro" menu descriptions but was good. Generally a pleasant family group evening.
P. D.
Had a wonderful meal here last Wednesday, food was exceptional. Highly recommend the cottage pie! Staff were friendly and attentive and made a mean Irish coffee to go with our desserts. Beautiful pub and very comfy experience all in all. Will definitely be back.
G.
Fantastic place to have a quick drink at. We managed to find some deck chairs, but there is plenty of space to sit around outside (if it's sunny).
Service was super quick when we went on Sunday. The place was very COVID secure which was lovely to see.
N. B.
Lovely pub, better prices on pints than most on the area..fantastic front and back beer garden. Excellent gluten free and vegan menu. Highly recommended. Great little outdoor pods you can book.
K. H.
We came with our fairly nervous dog since we havnt been able to take her to a pub in so long and all the staff were very welcoming and we had a great seat with a lovely dog bed next to it! Fantastic friendly and fast service, still our favourite pub 👍
B. S.
Food was OK a little expensive, no Gluton free options unless yoy had a burger without a bun or a roast without a Yorkshire or gravy. Service was poor we asked for a desert menu, it never came. I had to find staff to place my order and pay my bill
D. B. (.
Great, cosy and friendly local pub. Good range of beers and ciders, and quick and efficient food service.
A. v. P.
Lovely pub which feels very homey. Dog friendly despite my puppy still not being 100% pub trained they were still friendly and welcoming. The food was nice and service was friendly.
S. M.
Great idea to have ' beach ' chairs available on the grass outside to relax as a family and kids have space.
P. F.
Excellent pub, great food and service. (Sunday lunch)
V. B.
Staff were lovely. Ambience flat as mainly empty. Decor a bit failed retro 70s with dried flowers and pottery platters which didn't do much for food presentation. Food ok, quite nice mainly if a bit pricey. But would not recommend the veggie Sharma. It was a hotch potch of misc elements mainly cold including a puddle of yoghourt and raw cauliflower florets and an overly acidic pomegranate balsamic type dressing. Not very nice at all and little cooking involved for the price.
g. p.
Good food and beer selection (sharp Atlantic, wimbledon ales, etc), friendly staff. Perfect place for a little break (on a transat outside) or a nice dinner / roast.
T. R.
Smartened up over the years. Good ales. Bit better than normal pub food but at restaurant prices. Crab salad at £16 was a bit ordinary.
D. D. B.
Very good atmosphere and good entertainment at the weekends
J. G.
A pub for all seasons really. Cosy in winter, sit outside on the grass in summer. Lovely food, reasonably priced. Good service.
M. C.
I had my birthday lunch here, the service was great and we were well looked after. The Sunday roast is one of the best. Looking forward to returning.
G. M.
Cozy, Friendly, Hearty Food, and warm. Delightful - highly recommended.
D. G.
Surprisingly beautiful on the inside, Sunday roasts looked 👌 we went there for a pint on the green and grabbed a couple of their deck chairs and sat and enjoyed the sunshine. Would recommend it! nicer, quieter and less busy than the neighboring hand and hand.
S. W.
This pub is a nice pub. It didn't get 5 stars as it quite expensive. I guess you paying for area you drinking in. 1 pint of larger and 2 single pink gins was just under £20 which works out to £6.50 a drink. This is the most I've paid for a drink in a while. The food looks tasty i there.
S. O.
It is the perfect pub. Their food is amazing, staff is efficient and helpful, environment is casual and cozy with a relaxing atmosphere. Great for families. On the weekends it can get very busy, so probably to be early is recommended. Thank you!
W. N.
Great vibe, great service, minor issue with one plate of food out of three, was seen too professionally and a generous offer to reconcile. In the current covid climate we were more than happy to be in a lovely setting with lovely company and pay the full rate. Excellent service, quality food and lovely drinks.
J. “. R.
Not just a boozer on the green. Fantastic food, a welcoming smile and a marvellous selection of drinks. Have a lovely little snack and a pint or stay for a slap-up meal. Two great evenings spent here recently both with superb meals. Great on a winter's day or a summer's evening. Enjoy the deckchairs on the green outside.
C. B.
Really nice friendly pub - especially compared to next door
S. N.
The pub was very very busy and the service quite slow but the food was great!
Definitely recommended just need some patience!
P.
Great atmosphere good service. Unfortunately one of the mains the Vg Shawarma was not very tasty so the lovely manager knocked it off the bill. Thank you for that. Will be returning for sure.

If you beat a path to the Crooked Billet you'll be rewarded by the discovery that, together with its nearby sister pub the Hand In Hand, it offers open space aplenty on the green in front, making social distancing much easier during this Covid-challenged period. This is where most customers opted to stay on the very warm summer's evening when I visited, allowing our party to sit inside without concern about crowding. It must be noted however that inclement weather conditions would make such health-protection measures more challenging, given the modest amount of internal space.
The staff were, without exception, friendly, helpful and accommodating. The Young's 'On Tap' app was simple to use, facilitating service at the table for both food and drinks without the need to approach the bar.
Just a few caveats. For someone who enjoys real ale, a visit to this tied (Young's) pub will leave you pretty underwhelmed. Furthermore, the unexciting menu is limited to standard pub fare, albeit well prepared.
My principle caveat, however, is cost. Having become accustomed to a modest outlay for food and drink under lockdown, this, my first outing to a pub since rules were relaxed, came as a genuine shock and made me question what added value the pub was providing for me. A space to sit down with friends to enjoy some food and drink, for sure; but was it better than I could do at home? As I cast my eyes across the socially isolated groups spread out over the green and on distanced tables inside, I lamented the absence of the pub community, that disparate group of people, coming together at random to enjoy an evening of conviviality, not just with friends, but with the others, thus far unknown. That was entirely absent, bringing the question of cost and value-for-money into sharp focus.
Of course, the same will be true of almost all hospitality venues at this time, not just the Crooked Billet.
E. N.
This very nice pub offers really great food and a good choice of beers with some local ones. It's a great pub for couples, groups of friends and families, especially during summer when they install sun loungers outside in the grass (parents can relax while children run around). Children are not allowed after 6pm on some parts of the pub.
L. M.
We love the Crooked Billet! We've been coming here for years with our dogs. It's one of those places that still feels like a family run pub rather than a chain. Great food & wonderful atmosphere. All the staff are great with the dogs, and the pub provides water bowls and dog biscuits. It's nice and close to the common so great for after a walk. there's a more relaxed section with sofas and chairs, and then plenty of tables further in for food or larger groups. There's free parking nearby on weekends, although it can be difficult to find a space sometimes.
B. N.
Was at the Crooked Billet at about 15h00 on a Sunday. The place was very busy but service was really very good.
Really appreciated the fact that you can take kids, babies and dogs into the pub area. Very unusual for us as South Africans!
Menu is medium sized but more than adequate for a pub. We had roast beef which was one of three roasts of the day, and followed it with a sticky toffee pudding dessert. Food was good, wholesome, not pretentious and plentiful. As I said, service was quick and by UK standards pricing was fair (read that as a bit much when converted to SA Rands 😊) - just over GBP 110 for 4 of us and a bottle of wine
Be advised you cannot book a table in the pub area so be prepared to wait if the place is busy.
Nice food, nice venue and very pleasant......... Well worth the visit!
D. W.
Food was fantastic, Sunday roast was very good and meat cooked well. Chicken wings were ok but not the best starter that our table had. Still gets 5 stars for atmosphere and mains
K. N.
Bank holiday Sunday, ordered roast, it arrived suspiciously quick, the veg was very dry (suspect sitting around for sometime) and not nice to eat, meat was ok. Service was generally pretty good! Parted with circa £150 for 2 on our visit, didn't feel worthwhile, probably won't go back.
M. B.
Was good
J. W.
Had a perfect Sunday roast yesterday with three generations of family. The food was excellent, the beer list fine, and the table service was outstanding. The ambiance was warm and inviting. Can't recommend it more highly. I'll be back, for sure.
J. P.
Came here for a Sunday lunch - pub was completely packed which is always a good sign. Nice atmosphere with comfy chairs. We waited about 10mins for a table and the service was slow throughout the meal however the staff were friendly and the roast dinner was very tasty. A great place to spend the afternoon.
S. S.
My favourite place. Doggy friendly pub with deck chairs and blankets ready for the summer so you can sit in the lawn outside. Warm with fireplace in the winter. Lovely Sunday roast.
E. S.
I'm so glad my friends and I went to this great pub. The bar staff really was superb, everyone I interacted with was patient, happy to give me information and samples, and very friendly. The atmosphere is very nice - plenty of charm, but very clean as well. Also, they had some interesting, great beers and ciders on draught, some of which were from local and or craft breweries. I'll definitely be returning and hopefully sooner than later.
C. Y.
Delicious food and great beer ! (bangers and mash with a pint of Camden the Pub was a treat!) Very friendly service in a warm atmosphere and cosy setting! Will be back again soon !
M. S.
Nice pub, great for the summer, with a lovely green space opposite + deckchairs! Rated 4 rather than 5 star as it's rather expensive. More like central London prices rather than Wimbledon prices.
L. B.
Booked a table at very short notice on a Friday night. Well spaced tables, lovely staff and good food.
P. B.
Really good pub.
Friendly staff.
Alright selection of beers.
Great to have a grassy area in front with deckchairs great on a sunny day!
Nice food but a little expensive (the only reason it's not 5 stars)
R. G.
Great place on the edge of Wimbledon Common and near to the village. Come in just for a pint or longer and you will enjoy this place. Good selection of pub food and a daily specials board won't leave you hungry. Good choice of beers wines and other drinks too. Prices typical for the area.
C. H.
Good beer, good food, cozy ambience, lovely position on the edge of the Common, but the service can be decidedly patchy. Always busy, especially at weekends, and you can't help thinking that they don't always try that hard because they know that they've a ready market. More kid friendly than the neighbouring Hand in Hand, but less of a pubby pub, too.
T. S.
Popped in for a lunchtime beer, whilst doing the Village London - Wimbledon walk! Very glad we did! Pleasant, friendly, helpful, staff, clearly enjoying their jobs, created a great atmosphere, and a nicely furbished pub, made us look at the lunch menu. Lots of choice. My friend enjoyed her liver and bacon, with a nice male. I enjoyed the fish pie, but would have preferred more veg, rather than the nice brown bread! I washed it down with a couple of pale ales! A quality establishment! Highly recommended!
H. M.
Nice small pub atmosphere despite the space. But too much smoke coming in from outside, even staff seemingly holding the door open, bad on a cold night and as non-smokers.
Food was really nice though, loved the slow-cooked rib-of-beef yesterday but service was slow. We ended up not being asked for desert before finding out the kitchen had closed (we had waited some time for plates to be cleared and before being told of closure). They sorted something out but not impressed after nearly 2.5 hours there.
C. C.
A cold January day so it was nice entering the cosy warm atmosphere of this lovely old pub. Fairly decent roast, considering how busy it was. Only downside was there were far to many dogs in there today. My friend joked there were more dogs than people and it did feel a bit like that. If you are not keen on lots of dogs around you whilst eating then it's not the place for you.
L. S.
Lovely pub with a great menu for a Sunday roast. The place is tucked away in a quiet spot on the green, right next to the common. It’s child friendly and the staff is welcoming and knowledgeable. In the summer they have deck chairs outside in the green; the best way to spend the afternoon in the sun while sipping an ice cold drink.
They have a good selection of craft beers on tap in addition to the usual Young’s ales. The wine list is fairly wide although the cheapest start at over £22 per bottle.
The food is delicious and the portions are generous. The Sunday roast is reasonably priced at £15-17 and totally worth it!
A. M.
A lovely Sunday lunch in the Crooked Billet. Not far from Wimbledon Common, this is a popular place! We were able to walk in and get a table for 2 without a wait but this is normally rare on a weekend So, book in advance if you can!
The prices are a bit on the high end but then again it is Wimbledon! The desserts were fab!
J. C.
Good beer, deck chairs to sit in the sun. A great way to spend an hour on a Saturday afternoon.
c. r.
Fantastic pub in Wimbledon Common area. I really enjoy this pub. Have had Sunday lunch here a number of times and the roasts are fantastic as are the fish and chips. Service is great and you can take your pint outside into the sun on a lounging chair. I think this is my favourite pub in Wimbledon for a lazy Sunday lunch but booking is required.
N. B.
Great pub- lovely green outside in the summer and cosy fire in winter. Decent selection and quality drinks; food also good (tho menu could change more frequently). Our local favourite.
N. D.
My first choice of pubs in the Wimbledon area by a mile. On the edge of Wimbledon Common with a good line-up of beers and, for me, the best gastropub food around, especially the roasts on Sunday when it can get crazily busy all day such is the popularity of this place - and for good reason. Child-friendly, buggy-friendly, dog-friendly. Staff are welcoming and the hosts are top of the shop.
J. P. (.
Lovely Christmas meal with friends. All our courses were perfect. Chose traditional turkey with pigs in blanket and slow cooked beef as mains. Suitably attentive staff and relaxed atmosphere chatting by the open fire.
A. M.
I've been there with a group of my friends. The place were cozy and good for gathering in groups. Their beers were a little bit pricy but good. They put their menu between pages of a book on the table. I really like the idea and wanna read that book later 😄
I ordered a billet burger. I suggest them to add more flavour and make it much better as it kind of represents their burger.
P. N.
Plenty of old charm and a good selection of beer and wine. Good friendly service makes this pub a good choice.
Can be quite pricey, but you get what you pay for these days.
Only issue is that there is no parking and all roads around the area are either metered or permit holders only. Shame.
E. L.
Lovely country style pub. Always busy with a great atmosphere and selection of drinks food is also always good. My favourite pub in Wimbledon in the summer when you can lounge on the deck chairs on the grass out front
C. O.
I’ve been to the crooked billet sporadically over the last couple of years as a favoured haunt for a quarterly catch up with friends and I have to say with sadness it has declined somewhat. On the whole it is still a lovely pub and deserve top marks for being a dog friendly establishment but the food is no where near what it used to be. The lamb roast whilst being a large portion was a soup of gravy. My Yorkshire pud soggy from the excess. The vegetables were tasty but could not be differentiated from each other other than through sight and had to be fished out carefully to not splatter my clothes. The roast potatoes appeared stale, as if made the day before and not even reheated properly. Other members of our group also complaining of the same. The only saving grace was a very good sticky toffee pudding and quick service at the bar. My friends who opted for the crumble were served it with what I can only describe as a decorative thimble of watery custard. Not a good dining experience at all.
A. G.
Good pub, great light. Food was good. We had to change tables as we were told the table were chose was going to be ised. But there was no reserved sign. Other than that food were good and staff very polite.
G. P.
Deck chairs available to sit out front on a lovely sunny day. Great meal - a bit pricey for pub food- (£15-21 for mains and £7 for dessert) compared to my local but prob not bad for the area.
J. C.
Met with friends for Saturday lunch. We were a little late for the 12 o clock booking due to a delay on our long journey. ( 20 mins) but our friends had ordered ahead.
The main course for us came before the starters. So our meal was kept warm whilst the starters were prepared . Other main courses were missed all together and had to be reordered.
Non the less it was nice food.
We were just contemplating dessert when the waitress came over, asked who had made the booking , and told us the next booking for 2pm had arrived so we needed to leave now. It was astonishingly rude and very embarrassing. We were meeting friends we hadn't seen in many years. We had all travelled considerable distances to be there. Such a poor reflection of British hospitality for our Austrian guests to be thrown out to wander in the rain to find somewhere to have coffee. We will not return .
L.
Lovely pub for all seasons. Although the last few times I have been here the bar counter has been wet and dirty and also food on the floor. Lots of staff "around" for an afternoon but having a laugh more than anything. With one female bar staff licking a lolly in a suggestive way to a fellow staff member?!
M. M.
Great pub. Been a while I visited the pub. First time I bought my puppy here. The chicken burger was great but beef salad was medium raw even after being requested to be made well done.
A. S.
Food was ok, nothing special - apart from the camembert sharer plate.
Service was a bit slow. We were a large group so understand those are difficult for staff. However there was definitely a lack of urgency! Didn't offer a second round of drinks or dessert. Missed out on some easy sales!
T. P.
This is one of my favourite pubs. A real country feel in Wimbledon. Lovely food, bigger than you’d think although still a cosy environment, and the food is very tasty. Really close to the common and Wimbledon village too.
P. P.
A beautiful pub, very old, spacious and fantastic inside with stone floors and wonderful on a sunny Friday evening like last night,. as there is a stretch of common outside where you can sit on deck chairs. We had a fantastic time and the food was excellent too.
K. W.
Great pub, service was really great, staff very friendly and helpful.
We were there on a Sunday. Would definitely go back, but the roasts were hit and miss - Yorkshire puddings didn't have the right texture (almost puffed/aerated, no fudgyness along with the crispiness of the best). Roast potatoes weren't crispy. The pork belly was excellent, but I (always?) wanted more crackling. The beef was a little overcooked.
One of the party had fish and chips which looked superb.
Dessert-wise, the Brownie was outstanding, incredible texture, lovely edge but fall apart fudgey inside. The sticky toffee pudding had an amazing caramel sauce, and whilst the pudding itself was more cakey than pudding, it was still superb.
Scotch egg was gristley, served cold, not runny yolk (though it is clearly sold as a bar snack rather than a starter)
R. C.
Busy pub. Dog friendly but not nursing mother friendly.
Thank you for your reply. To give more detail, a young nursing mum was asked by two of your staff together to move from a quiet corner of the pub whilst breast feeding, to a central area of the pub in full view of a group of males standing at the bar. Hope this helps you.
M. N.
Great pub.eaten here and food was of great standard. Good beer selection. Normally a local cask (Wimbledon common) , plus Young's beers. Also normally a couple of craft ales. Neck oil and hells today..

Gorgeous oldie worldie pub with flagstone and wood floors. I love that it's so dog friendly, spotlessly cleaning with excellent food and drink. Doesn't matter how busy it can sometimes get, you still are served quickly and there's invariably a cosy corner free in one of its nooks or crannies.
C. E. G.
Love the crooked Billet, good pub food, friendly staff and super family friendly
V. C.
Beautiful cosy pub situated right opposite the common, stepping in this building feels like be in the countryside. As always, Youngs have pulled all the stops with the decoration and furniture. The staff is very friendly, and we had a great table. We were amazed by the speed of the food coming to our tables! The roast was delicious, although I wish the Yorkshire pudding would be crispy, but the chicken and the veggies were cooked perfectly. Their sticky toffee pudding is to die for! I will definitely return there for food or just a drink. This place reaffirms how much I love pubs!
L.
A bit expensive. Dose not take cash. Ushered customers out.
K. M.
A really nice pub near Wimbledon Common. Great for a Sunday roast. The food is always very good and there is a large selection of drinks available.
S. H.
Great food and local beer, friendly staff
E. S.
Such a lovely pub! Last sunday was there for a delicious sunday roast, with the best Yorkshire puddings. Staff were really lovely and helpful. We definitely will be back.
S. H. R.
Wonderful pub! Always busy so great atmosphere but staff are attentive enough to make sure you’re being looked after! Will be back!
P. M.
Attended with partner for dinner... the ambiance of this place cannot be denied. It has two fireplaces and a lovely give with friendly, attentive staff.
What let's this place down is the food unfortunately.
I had the seared sea bass wit chorizo, potato and green beans. The fish was nicely done. The green beans cooked to death!
Partner had the fish pie with garden peas. Again, peas cooked to death. And although the fish pie was "ok", certainly wasn't anything to write home about. Once in the car, partner was feeling a bit sick, said fish pieces repeating on him. After he got home, said he felt completely wretched. I think the pie was the culprit!!
If being judged on just the pub alone, this place could easily score 4-5 stars. Throw the food in and that detracts.
I think this is a bit of a failing with youngs pubs in general. Because the one near my home, brilliant decor, venue, drinks and staff. The food never fails to disappoint though.
N. R.
Recently had dinner here with my wife and the food was excellent. We used to go to the Fox and Grapes pretty frequently, but since it's "upgrade" and it's no longer a traditional pub we've been trying out other spots around the Village. Crooked Billet has great food, good beer and still has that traditional pub feel about it, plus on nice days you can take your drinks outside and lie on the grass. Will be spending more time in the place over the coming months.
D. H.
Nice pub with good food and selection of beers and wines. Restaurant section as well as bar. Family friendly (though kids not allowed in bar area after 6pm). Popular and therefore crowded at weekends.
L. M.
They have a beautiful park opposite the pub that you can sit and enjoy food or drinks (limited food menu) on a nice sunny day. If it's winter time they have a quaint interior with a more formal dining area in the back. I'd highly recommend stopping here if you're a local or in the area visiting.
E. M.
Nice pub, we went for lunch. Food tasty, not too overpriced. But Wimbledon village doesn't come cheap.
Will take the dog another time as it's very dog friendly.
R. B.
Lovely pub, cool outside area with lounge chairs that can be used on the grass. Sunday roast is really tasty! Dog friendly.
J. L.
Lovely Pub. gr8 service and delicious food and wonderful atmosphere! Definitely a place for a drink and bit of fun if you are wanting a night out in Wimbledon.
D. J.
A solid meal in a great atmosphere... This was the first time we've done Sunday dinner rather than lunch and whilst the food was as good as it is usually, by being less busy the whole service was more relaxed. A hit with 3 generations.
K. L. d.
Really wonderful atmosphere and for someone who loves dogs, dofs very welcome here. Got a little table for the two of us on friday night, not too loud and food u expectedly fantastic. The chicken kiev with the celeriac dauphinoise and the chargrilled asparagus.. yummy! The aubergine stew as anhealthy portion and again really tasty with the bulgur wheat. Will definitely be coming again!
A. H.
Nice outdoor deckchairs on the green. Well kept beer, standard middle-of-the-road Young's food
A. R.
Good food, friendly staff, good ambiance.
R. W.
I love the Crooked Billet, it's my favourite pub in Wimbledon. You walk in and it's like stepping into a little country pub in Surrey. By the time you leave you'll want to buy a Great Dane and a pair of jodhpurs for the Mrs. Great crowd, good youngs beers, dog friendly and a nice area out back for food. A class act.
P. B.
Had a fantastic dinner here. The sticky pudding was particularly memorable. Very pleasant spot to sit outside with a beer on a summer evening.
C. R.
Excellent food, service and ambience. The fish and chips are to die for!! It's one of the few dog friendly pubs on Wimbledon Common - great for dog lovers and dog owners alike!
K. J.
This pub has a great atmosphere when the sun is shining, with everyone bringing their pints onto the grass outside and chilling on blankets. Great lunch menu too!
K. L. M.
Lovely interior and atmosphere. Not the best food I've had nor the best value. Could be more vegan options - only one vegan starter and main despite an extensive menu. Good selection of drinks.
E. T.
Nice location; friendly staff. I had the chicken Sunday roast which was very tasty. Good size portions too and good value for money. Would eat here again
J. K.
Definitely my favourite pub. Just the right feel and vibes, perfect selection of beers and wines. All the staff are great and top bants.
A. V.
Know it only from sitting outside in the summer on the deck chairs scatterred on the front lawn but will definetely come back to sit indoors as it seems very nice and temps with good food smells.
J. R.
Mixed quality on food. Haloumi salad was very good. Pork loin fatty and tough and Cumberland sausage bun and chips very greasy. Staff good. Atmosphere good.
C. P.
Lovely food, great service in a lovely pub.
F. M.
The deck chairs on the common outside are wonderful and the food is delicious. One of our favourite spots in London!
R. W.
Absolutely lovely little gastropub. Fires, great atmosphere, reasonable prices, very good bread, yummy appetizers. Loved it. Wish I lived near here so I could go often.
B. R.
Lovely pub but is more expensive than central London. However it is dog friendly and i love popping in on a Sunday for a drink after a long walk
F. G.
Fast becoming one of my favourite pubs. Dog friendly. Child friendly. Very relaxed atmosphere just beside Wimbledon Common!
S. L.
Great wee pub - food is fantastic and the service is really good and friendly. Ox Cheek Pie is unreal!
P. C.
Really nice place, very modern inside. Food arrived very quickly after ordering. Was very tasty. Would definitely recommend

J.
Called for coffee. Came served very nicely. Staff were nice and friendly.
R. H.
Good service, quite yummy (standard Youngs menu) bar food, relaxed atmosphere if a bit faux.
P. R.
Great pub set in a lovely area of Wimbledon near the common. Last time we went there is the sun was out and they provided free deck chairs for customers :-)
W. P.
Food was lovely and the service was fast but didn't make us feel like we were being rushed to leave.
T. G.
Really good range of beer and food, at reasonable prices as well. Nice atmosphere with good balance of pub vs restaurant. Friendly, helpful staff
C. W.
I can't believe we haven't been before. Lovely inviting pub with great food, it couldn't of been better. Very friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere.
c. g.
A little gem of a local pub near wimbledon common. As I walked into the pub to wait for someone I noticed the friendly, light hearted atmosphere. Great place to go to unwind from the working day!
G. (.
When you're expatriated from the countryside to pursue a career in the city it's easy to become jaded and 'owt right down in the mouth when you're surrounded by urban sprawl with no break for greenery, cows or cosy countryside drinking establishments that writers continue to romanticise over in the trash novels as they did in the great ones.
Imagine, then, if you will, the soul-nurturing uplift that my girlfriend and I felt when we happened upon this gem just off Wimbledon common. A welcome refuge from a classically hazy autumnal day, this place hit you with the familiar smell of woodsmoke soaked into oaken beams the second you walked through the door. Some jazzy licks fought their way over the chatter and - if you can forget the LARGE number of children in pushchairs - we felt like we'd gone home, if not for a little while.
the drink was good, the bar snacks were awesome, the atmosphere was addictive. We'll be back here before long, and will probably make a habit of visiting anytime we feel that longing for the clean air and bovine companions that any self respecting country bumpkin misses when trapped in the smoke.
Don't get me wrong, I love London, but my roots are out of the city, and this place feels like it's out of the city as well.
A. H.
The real British experience! I loved the food and pudding
P. B.
Tried our luck for Sunday lunch despite it being fully booked, CB managed to find a table, fantastic food thanks!
J. C.
Nice, family friendly gastropub. Staff in the restaurant section can be rude though, bar area do a great job. Specials are usually the best on offer.
L. T.
Good food and friendly staff - well organised with social distancing. Had a nice long relaxed lunch. Linda and Bernie
A. L.

C. B.
Great real style Pub with a good menu. Always a pleasure visit
B. R.
Always great food drink atmosphere and lovely staff. Great indoors in the bar, restaurant or outside on the green.
A. W.
A close-enough facsimile of a country pub, but within walking distance of a zone three station. Rather different crowd though... Very entertaining for people watching.
m. d.
Gorgeous beer garden, great food, super friendly staff
P. G.
Great dog friendly pub serving good food. Excellent location on the edge of the common and very very popular on sunny days.

Perfectly pleasant Sunday roast. Understandably busy (like all pubs on a Sunday) but service was still a little lacking. Family and Dog friendly.
A. W.
Excellent food and a beautiful pub. During the summer the garden out front is lovely to catch all of the sun.
S. C.
Great pub for a drink near to Wimbledon Common. When it's sunny they have deckchairs out on the grass in front to sit and have a drink.
b.
The food was amazing great portion sizes and the staff were helpful polite and very accommodating
R. B.
Disappointing ploughman's lunch today. Miserly portion of very average cheese, rock hard butter, slightly dry bread. Ham pretty average too.
A shame as they're usually better than this.
D. W.
Delicious food and great service
C. C.
Great local pub - good beers and good food; awesome outdoor area if its sunny and nice fireplace for winter evenings.
A. M.
Cosy. Everything was great (except the bread with my ploughman's, which was disappointingly tastless and a bit stale). Other people's dinners were all very well received, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt there.
N. H.
Lovely pub great if you have babies/kids or dogs. Lovely food, friendly service
