Reviews of East Dulwich Tavern
N. T.
A real warm and inviting archetyple London pub. In gallon loads, it has all the trimmings, all the atmosphere, all the facilities and yummy grub and booze you would ever wish for. I went for drinking spirits this time for a change: and was very impressed with their selection and knowledge. We cheer them on - loudly!!

Was welcomed by the lovely Eleanor and George and experienced tremendously splendid service, beer was lovely and food was delectable will definitely be visiting again.
E. C.
Love this pub, they recently changed menù and now have gluten free options which is great, had such a nice burger 🍔 highly recommended 👌
D.
Really nice pub with great tasting food. Was definitely a fan of the Korean Chicken Burger, probably one of the best I've had around London.
C. W.
Great pub, nice friendly atmosphere and good quality beers, ales and ciders on tap. Well worth a visit.
A. F.
Brilliant pub. By far the best in Lordship Lane. Great staff and decent selection of beer on cask and keg.
C. M.
Vegan roast was fabulous and came so quickly!
J. G.
Great little local.. excellent fish finger sandwich..good selection of beers.. characterful pub... friendly chatty staff
K. M.
This is a great pub and fantastic place for a event. The space upstairs is great. There is always a buzz and great local beers.
S. K.
This is a really lovely local. Met a friend for lunch and we thoroughly enjoyed their sandwich menu - both the steak and the chicken, avocado and bacon, served on on ciabatta were absolutely delicious. I don't like doorstep sandwiches and these were a decent portion and excellent value for money. The staff were friendly and they looked after our dog. Recommended!
M. G.
Popped in for a quiet pint, tried the Session which was pretty good. Nice place with quirky memorabilia decorating the walls.
J. M.
Big space, a unique offering. Decent selection of beers and lot's of wood. Lots of mum's and kids. Wheelchair toilet.
D. P.
Just a great pub. Staff were super helpful and service was top notch for a table of 8 despite the pub being exceptionally busy. Food was great and reasonably priced. Atmosphere was buzzy and friendly. No negatives!
A. K.
George Is an unreal barman, and the edt is my physical second home
D. G.
Great place to eat and have a drink at a reasonable price. Friendly staff and nice vibe.
J. W.
Best roast I've had in a long time, great beer selection, friendly staff, great vibe 🤙🏻
G. M.
Totally felt like normal times here. Staff were great actually. Haven't been to a pub in a year but would return here loved it
G. D.
Warm and cosy environment especially during the Friday's Folk session! Good selection of beers! Nice food, but portions too small for me
P. C.
Really busy pub on Sunday lunchtime, nice old building on a corner, nice beers and wines.
P. M.
Comfortable, friendly and cosy pub, with good food options including vegan. My dry January was enhanced by an excellent Virgin Mary
R. C.
Popped in for a mulled wine and curled up in one of the beautiful rooms. Great staff, warm friendly atmosphere, will return!
G. D.
Amazing burger and nice cold beer.
H. R.
Right at the East Dulwich round about. Great ambience. Food is equally good too. They screen live games on and off. Service is good too.
J. M.
Participated to a private party, beautiful building and interior, good service.
L. M.
A good selection of real ales in a quirky Antic pub. Areas by the bar floored with interesting tile patterns. Range of food options and snacks available. Lovely, helpful staff.
D. S.
Very busy pub that serves fantastic food and various different beers, wines, and spirits. Extremely friendly staff, and a great place for sitting outside watching the world go by.
d. r.
Good staff, relaxed vibe, dog friendly which was great for us
S. A. K.
Lovely food is great and atmosphere is old pub.
Love it
J. W.
great pub! Nice atmosphere. Love the decor. Had real fires in two areas gives the place a nice homely warm feel I the cold of winter! Great selection of real ale craft ale and main stream beers and cider. I had a mosaic pale ale and another I can't remember the name of. Both tasted great though. Good selection of all types of spirits on the back bar also.
Ive never eaten here but from what I could see the food looks great and they do a nice roast on Sundays.
For a Wednesday afternoon the place had a good amount of people in which suggests to me the locals like the place, not being a local myself this is always a good maker of a good pub.
Ill definitely come here again.
👍🏼👍🏼🥂

Good pub at the start of Lordship Lane in East Dulwich. Four cask ales on tap when I visited. A few tables outside.
M. H.
Describing a pub as “traditional” does not always constitute a compliment, but on this occasion it definitely is.
The extremely friendly nature displayed by the bar staff seems to somehow spill out into the clientele, meaning that this very child-friendly pub always has a remarkably welcoming atmosphere. Also nice to see a range of prices at the bar, where alongside top-end craft beers you can still get a pint for £4.
My only criticism would be that with all of the taps on display it would be nice to see the odd porter or wheat beer in there somewhere amongst the forest of pale-ales. However, that’s a moot point for a pub that does almost everything right.
C. L.
Lovely pub, friendly atmosphere, great selection of beers! My favourite in Dulwich hands down.
O. S.
Local pub, friendly crowd and friendly staff. Nice atmosphere and plenty of seating available.
c. s.
Great pub for all your needs
S. S.
Great pub with awesome atmosphere. Food is also really tasty and well worth trying.
m. m.
Eclectic pub with a great range of food and a large selection of beers. Shabby-chic decor suits the building, and gives the place an interesting look.
It's a popular place and shows the big games on a big screen. Lots of older locals and youngsters makes for a mixed crowd of punters.
Very friendly staff, always happy to help if they can.
All in all a great traditional boozer with something for everyone. Highly recommended.
s. s.
Really amazing roasts!! 🤤
D. B.
Lovely little gem! I went on St Patrick's day and they had a live band singing folk music. Very busy but not too packed so still able to enjoy yourself. They have outdoor space which would be lovely in the summer. Bar staff lovely, very friendly and knowledgeable about the drinks. I don't drink ales but there seemed to be a large selection of drinks. Would recommend.
M. L.
My daughter took me for a glass of red wine and we sat outside on a very warm evening. I was too inebriated to remember if the wine was any good but my daughter thought it was ok.
J. Z.
This is a wonderful little pub with a great selection of beers and wines. The food menu isn't extensive but features some delicious options. Would highly recommend checking this place out.
Although it can be difficult to get a table sometimes, there's a bookable area which fits a surprising amount of people.
Great vibes in general.
B. H.
Firstly if I could give 10 stars I would, in my opinion one of the best pubs in South London. Great beer, atmosphere, sausage rolls, staff. To top it off £3.30 for a tasty session ale is glorious.
W. H.
Good atmosphere. Worth a visit
D. L.
Amazing place that went so well with our vintage wedding theme. The staff were so chilled and helpful, nothing seemed a problem. A big shout to Gina that helped us make it all happen. The food was equally as good, our guests were very complimentary

Returned almost a year since the last visit - given how utterly awful that was. Very happy to say it has returned to what I remember and to the place I enjoyed visiting👍
This is the place you visit if you want to explore and taste different beers in this area - everywhere else is compared to EDT as this is the de facto standard.
Great selection of beers and wonderful atmosphere (a bit too much Thu and Fri evening but that’s most places I guess).
Update - 01-Sep-2020
Got a response from EDT. First thanks for your response. As indicated I have had many good times there but the treatment we received was particularly poor. First the staff in question implied that we were lying and we never placed the order, then the apathetic attitude when we asked him to check, and finally the terrible cold shoulder when we simply asked to settle the bill and leave (like some disgruntled teenager) left us in no doubt that we were not welcome. Perhaps he was just having a bad day, but he shouldn't take it out on the customers even if that were the case.
d. r.
This is a nice pub, with a great selection of tap beers, and good atmosphere; the only thing that stops it being even better is the bar staff; no criticism of the staff, just the lack of them behind the bar in sufficient numbers to be able to get a drink. Came in last night, 7 ish, waited a full 15 minutes to get served, eventually gave up, and went elsewhere. Two people behind the bar on a Saturday evening in a pub of this size is completely inadequate. GET SOME MORE BAR STAFF!
F. F.
We hired the upstairs room - The Lodge - for our wedding reception and couldn't have asked for a better venue. Staff were amazing, both on the night and during the planning. Venue was perfect for what we wanted plus had the added bonus of being free to hire (with a minimum spend). Food fantastic too! If you're looking for a venue to host a special occasion then this is a great choice!
J. B.
I must have been past this pub a dozen times without ever going in. I can see now why it's so popular! Great range of beers and really good food in a really nice atmosphere. On my list of locals.
P. T.
The best pub in East Dulwich, nice and relaxed with all sorts of people and usually a fantastic selection of beers! Food usually decent too. A great spot in summer when the doors are open.
Sport is usually on but doesn't take over the pub. There's plenty of staff and they're all nice and friendly. There is an upstairs function room but havnt been up there for anything yet.
S. H.
5 stars! We had our wedding reception at The EDT and we can't recommend it highly enough. Gina was always on hand to answer questions and help us along the way. Very accommodating. The hot buffet was amazing. Please can we get the recipe for the Chilli??! All guests remarked how good this was.
R. L.
Nice relaxed atmosphere. A busy pub, but we'll run by helpful staff. Surprisingly reasonable prices despite the area bring so sought after these days. Food looked hearty.
M. M.
Popped in here for a few pints after the Dulwich Hamlets vs Carlisle game. As you would imagine the pub was packed but service was quick. Pub had a good vibe and a real mix of people. I will be back for sure.
F. V.
Great spot, buzzing with commuters and people. Good selection of Pale Ales and IPA.
A. F.
Great location with easy-going charm.
At the heart of East Dulwich, the "EDT" offers relaxed drinking and dining, perfect for meeting friends (it's roomy !) before going on, or for the whole evening.
Excellent range of interesting ales and solid-value food means theres no need to venture out of SE22, as you'll be hard-pressed to find better.
C. S.
Very quiet for lunch on a Thursday. Interesting menu. The butternut Squash Risotto portion size could be bigger and had too much garlic but other menu items round the table were enjoyed. Wide range of beers.
N. R.
Large pub on the corner of East Dulwich's Lordship Lane, serving plenty of craft beers, drinks and spirits. Plenty of tables inside and out.
R. S.
A friendly pub with a good selection of drinks. It has cosy fireplaces in the colder months. Sports are on view but do not dominate the venue. The staff are helpful and the service is prompt. This place has a good vibe and plays a varied selection of music.
N. C.
Covid confident. Strong, simple menu. Excellent burger and chips. Not the best beer selection but made up for with the wine list. Have the picpoul. Note: they only serve desserts on Sunday.
P. A.
Really nice atmosphere, popular with students and sixth formers. Good value wine and beer. Food is good though slightly overpriced for fairly basic pub grub. Staff are friendly. Lots of space.
A. J.
My favourite pub in East Dulwich. Nice relaxed atmosphere, old fashioned but stylish interior with a mixture of sofas and dining tables, and friendly staff. Average London prices but food is delicious and well worth the money. Sunday lunch is a must - big portions of meat served! Perfect place in Dulwich for a quick drink or leisurely meal any time of the week.
E. C. D.
Great pub big choice of libation and fantastic jazz club😎🇿🇦🎺
A. M.
Super good service frm eleanore love that gal
K. G.
Nice pub, with plenty of space and TVs to watch sport, but food is a bit overpriced. £17 for a roast dinner is ridiculous - and it wasn't even good! Good pub for drinks though!
R. W.
Always one of my favourite pubs, the landmark pub in East Dulwich between my birthplace at King's College Hospital and my childhood home in Underhill Road, a stone's throw from my dad's birthplace in Ondine Road. Epicentre for victory celebrations of Dulwich Hamlet FC's promotion in 2018. Good service and good beer.
G. M.
Great local and I remember the best person working there - Jasmine. In charge of the customer service. Found my belongings after another customer left with them and she found them :-)
Don't know if she still works there but I imagine the team are just as good.
M. H.
Lots of really nice local beers (Peckham Rye brewery) at reasonably prices (£4.20+ a pint). We seemed to sample most of the starters, smoked aubergine dip (the winner, really smoky with the sweet pomegranate seeds providing texture), halloumi fried (cut thinner than normal which meant for crispier and therefore better fries), Welsh rarebit (I was expecting a thicker slice of bread but the flavours were great, heavy on the mustard), and the usual truffle and parmesan fries.
J. W.
Can't give this five stars as went on a quiet January Friday afternoon and didn't eat, but the pub was warm, and cosy for such a large space with a good selection of drinks. Staff were very friendly as well. Will stop by again when in the area.
A. D.
Spacious but busy, cosy corner pub at the bottom end of East Dulwich. Friendly and reasonably quick service at the bar.
Decent range of ale on cask including their own brew Volden.
Standard but tasty pub food at prices that won't break the bank.
Frequented by a nice variety of folk. No sign of children whenever I have visited which makes it a rare pub in these parts.
Recommended.
K. F.
Fabulous family pub. Old haunt of my partners and returned years later with the kids. Sat by the roaring fire with a glass of wine after a long day of shopping, what more could you want. Love this place 😊
B. U.
A great pub
I miss visiting here. It does everything you want from a traditional pub. Great food and selection of beers
e. m.
Favourite pub in east Dulwich, always busy but can usually find a seat. They have great beer and loads of event, big screens and you can take your kid and dogs along too.
M. B.
Busy local sports boozer. Busy with good vibe.
n. v.
This is usually one of our first pub stops when we are planning a night out on “the lane”, its cosy and has a relaxed atmosphere, but I have found the staff not to be the friendliest all the time. Price wise it’s the average London prices; they offer a good selection of drinks, there is seating outside in the front, perfect for a cold drink in the summer months.
C. G.
10 cask ale beer engines, 8 with ale but not 1 dark ale amongst them. Had a bottle of Railway Porter, very nice but far too cold being served straight from the fridge.
S. F. L.
From a watching sports perspective, it's not the best place to watch sports in Dulwich. The EDT screen is too small & in an awkward place. Cherry tree is better as it's bigger so more people can see & they've 2 screens.
Back to the EDT, one annoying happened. I phoned ahead to reserve a table for the Lions game, and the person answered told me that all was booked and he was looking forward to seeing me for the game. All very nice and welcoming. Next morning, no one had an idea about the booking. Pointless.
The beers are pretty good though. Interesting and broad range of ales and ciders alongside standard lagers. Worth a try.
E. T.
Not a bad place to pop for a drink, can get rather busy outside in the summer but if you are lucky enough ton grab a table you are set for the rest of the day. Staff are very helpful and kind. All seats are very comfortable inside and is quite cosy at christmas drinks are your usual fair not the cheapest around but you pay for atmosphere more than anything.
A. S.
The upstairs restaurant here is gorgeous - all dove grey walls, battered Penguin Classics on the shelves, squishy leather sofas and heavy curtains. At times it does feel like they overdid the shabby chic accessories but it's mostly a really lovely space. The food isn't bad either. I had the roast lamb which came with EVERYTHING - parsnips, potatoes, veg and yorkshire pudding. Unfortunately it was a bit bland (I couldn't actually taste any of the rosemary and garlic the lamb was supposedly cooked with) and that's what stops this place from getting five stars. I was too full for pudding but my friend's chocolate chip bread & butter pudding was amazing apparently (okay, I stole a bit and it was delicious).
R. J.
This place is exactly as you'd want a pub to be. It feels authentic and cosy while also being open and lively. It's understandably popular.
K. D.
Nice pub. Friendly people and great staff.
The local haunt for anyone living nearby. Food is pretty decent, but the wings are amazing.
A. B.
this was one of the first pubs on the lane to be refitted and modernised during the gentrification of the area. it's had many face lifts over the years but as the area fills with bars and pubs its not quite as full as it used to be for weekend drinks. this really is a blessing as it allows for a good pint and not too noisy for a chat aither.cThe pub has a great range of beers on keg and bottle and also the cask ales are generally well kept. food is generally ok but pricey, and they have a range of tasty bar snacks which go down well with the beers they have
M. U.
Don't know what's happened to the menu now, it's so...odd? There's three mains, 2 are salads and one is a burger, so salad or burger it is. Sides -roast potatoes ... and cabbage, that's it?? One starter is hummus with carrot and celery sticks, nice for a picnic I guess. Drinks are fine but I wouldn't go looking for a meal anymore. Can only imagine it's cost cutting gone rogue.
L.
Was ok, more reflective of the "new guard" of East Dulwich, but a good, friendly crowd. Food was fast, hit and tasty, if a little pricey (£8.00 fir sausage and mash). Yes, nice place
R. R.
A must visit if in the area, great crafts beers on tap, cosy in the winter and great outdoor atmo in summer
J. H.
Very welcoming staff and a great burger. Love the outside seating. Will be back
A.
Such a nice pub,
Good decoration
Excellent selection of ales and beers
Friendly and mostly competent bar staff.
Cheapest prices on lordship Lane best bar I'm the area by a long way
D. T.
Enjoyed a lunch and drinks at the EDT many times, it's bright, quaintly decorated and does food as well a wise selection of beers and wine. Situated at the end of a road full of restaurants and shops makes it a great mid shopping break, evening out, drinks before dinner etc.
A. S.
Lovely spot for a pint with a good selection of beers. Reliable food, friendly atmosphere and great staff. A favourite nightspot too.
D. K.
Good ambience. Great dish " crab fries". Must try.
H. R.
Eclectic pub with good value pints & a friendly vibe. Great place for Spurs' Champions League games if searching for an option.
J. S.
Great pub for watching sports. Good beer selection.
T. S.
Went here on a Friday evening, it gets quite busy however if eating you can call ahead and ask to reserve tables. Decent range of beer.
H. F.
Great pub, you don't feel like you're in London. They have the loft area above the pub which shows live sport on a huge projector
J. B.
Great local pub. Good burger for the price!
P. T.
Good local pub! Gets very busy😃
N. M.
Lovely grub, cool folk night upstairs, nice decor n that. Understaffed for years now though; mad waits at the bar. Fix up for five stars.
M. B.
A greatly range of drinks whatever your tipple and a nice atmosphere. I've always found it grubby; the tables are always sticky and the toilets slightly flooded and scattered with empty toilet rolls.
M. F.
Bar staff are welcoming and it provides the perfect environment for cards against humanity. Prices aren't unreasonable - most points fine in at a convenient £4😉
l. l.
I would have liked it if they had had more variety for Sunday dinner but gluten free options were available for my friend so I have given it a 3 star rating.
M. W.
Decent selection of beers, cheaper than average for Dulwich, solid food and pretty much the only pub in the area worth going to to watch sport... Probably the best you'll get in East Dulwich
H. D.
Beautiful pub with a good vibe and a lot of character. There is a good selection of beers. It is usually big enough to find a spot to sit
M. M.
Favourite pub in Peckham, with great function room above the pub.
D.
Nice staff, great drinks selection and a fantastic Sunday lunch. Will be back.
K. H.
Great local hangout. Great food - fresh and full of flavour. Place has a good busy vibe and a nice atmosphere to relax in.
A. A.
Super cozy, very spacious, friendly staff. Fireplace was much appreciated. Good liquor selection. Yummy comfort food
D. X.
The pub itself is very nice, good choice of beers, very spacious and cozy. The food was average and little pricey though.
A. M.
Lots of great pubs in the area, but this is the one I call my local
E. D. D. I.
I love the decore of this pub it's like a comfortable quirky reception room in someones cozy home in winter...Another great thing about this pub is the different types of seating areas available .. all very comfy for group catch ups or for just on your own..Seating outside too, great for long summer days watching people stroll by..
C. E.
Good pub
g.
Very popular pub at the end of Lordy Lane! Been there only a couple of times.. can't comment on food or drink prices!
M. B.
The pub at the heart of East Dulwich. Great beer selection. Generally good food. Busy when live sports are on. Lime and soda is free.
B. F.
Excellent local Beers, a superb seasonal menu. Staff are always welcoming & accommodatiing to individuals who are in need of help of limited physical ability.
S. G.
OK pub. Not bad, but not stand out good either. Lacks a fire place. But at least it's a proper pub, and hasn't gone gastro!
s. k.
Nice and spacious pub, interesting crowd, good selection of beer and food. Not that keen on the TV panels playing sports though
M. T. H.
Best pup on Lordship Lane in East Dulwich. Very good range of guest ales. Sitting areas outside on the street in the sun.

Reasonably priced beers, nice fire place for the winter, large windows make it just as good in the summer. Lots of character.

Great prices on their drinks. A fair amount cheaper than other local pubs and without losing quality.
S. L. K.
Lovely place, decent prices considering the area. (Chips are a very small portion but extremely yummy!)
R. H.
lovely pub nice price's 👌🏾
J. H.
Solid pub always good for a pint but the food is always questionable. Good chips but not a good main if you know what i mean.
P. S.

I've discovered some really great ales at the EDT. Bit more lively than some of the other pubs in the area too.
A. B.
Mediocre place to hang out now and then. Nothing special or untoward. Food above average for pub food so that is a bonus.
