Reviews of Eleanor Arms

Best East end pub!
This little gem is parked right next door to Victoria park!
It's run by the most loveliest people you will ever meet! Frankie & Lesley! they are such good hosts! This place is oozing with authentic East end vibes, has so much character, always has a great atmosphere, Frankie is quite famous for his music selection, he plays great music on the weekends, there is also selected jazz nights on a Sunday, a monthly quizz and they also have a great pool table!
I love this place!

I’m a northerner so an apparently typical east end pub was a first. Had a great Sunday night in here enjoying live music. Normally jazz I believe). Great atmosphere and good level of business.
All the locals were friendly and especially so the two ladies behind the bar. They knew their drinks and were welcoming and efficient. Good range of spirits especially whiskeys.
Smoking area out the back, toilets were fine, pool table.
Prices were very reasonable, comparable to a normal pub where I’m from (the grim north)

This place is a gem. Classic old man pub run by amazing landlords who are the most chatty and pleasant people you'll ever meet. On top of this, you get amazing jazz band playing on Sunday. It's probably the most authentic place around there. There are other amazing pubs of course but this one is just beyond amazing! I highly recommend you go there on Sunday if you like a bit of jazz.

Nice little pub .quiet on a Sunday afternoon .going selection of beers . But then again it's A CAMRA pub. Front door took some navigating not wheelchair friendly. Nor sure if there is another door. Serves food
T. M.
Arrived there for a Spanish exchange, however I was really impressed with the pub itself. Local IPAs and good music taste. Seems to be the place that some actors choose to hang out sometimes...

Celebrated a lovely evening at the Elenor Arms. Great selection of beverages alcoholic & non alcoholic alike. Nice environment.
A. M.
Friendly landlord & punters. Good real ale, clean & cosy pub. Would definitely recommend.
V. T.
Great local pub with live jazz on Sundays
P. B.
I hadn't been in here for 15 years (no I wasn't barred! Lol) and I was pleasantly surprised. A good range of Ales to choose from and a very pleasant atmosphere. The bar staff were very friendly and I understand it's also now a Jazz venue. So in the words of Paul Thompson's character from the Fast Show's Jazz Club.............Nice.
R. H.
Glad that this hospitable pub has managed to survive the lockdown. Good local Shepherd Neame pub with a choice of well kept ale. Has a beer garden and a pavement overflow area. In normal times the music loving landlord spins some tunes and I hope this returns. Landlord and staff very friendly.

First time back since the start of Covid. Great pub as always, with great selection of ale.
e.
Great pub / landlord!
Thanks for your hospitality

First visit last night, & what a warm, welcoming place to spend the evening. Friendly staff and chilled, bubbly atmosphere. I would highly recommend a visit, as a reminder of how much pubs such as this, have been so missed. Looking forward to going back.

Great pub. Often quiet in the week and then more busy at the weekends. But we always get a table. Bar area has a live DJ in the evenings playing a wide range of classics. Not too loud! Back bar has a pool table in the week. Outside yard is perfect for a quieter chat. Drinks are fairly priced for the area. Not sure about food but bar snack are good. This is a good PUB. If you are in Bow you should go.
E. D.
The best pub in London. Great beer, mini cheddars and a pool table. What more could you want?
M. M.
They do a lovely pint of real ale, and have some good jazz on a Sunday evening. Ho yes, and my wive don't know this place.
A nice little escape. Arrrr nice.
L. W.
A great east London boozer, with really decent beer and proper cask conditioned ales, as well as interesting ciders, scrumpies, and other choices that change regularly. The landlord and landlady treat everybody in the same welcoming and enthusiastic manner - a proper local, and I will miss it!
D. W.
I love the Eleanor Arms. Proper old school pub but with enough fun modern touches. Great jazz on a Sunday. Lovely cask ales and good whisky selection (get the Bruichladdich Islay barley). Always friendly staff.
E. D.
Hands down the best pub in the East End, if not the whole of London. I've been drinking here for years, since I was a student at the local uni, and every night spent here has been a pleasure. The cask ale is perfectly kept, the selection of bar snacks enormous, the pool table perfectly maintained, the staff are amazing and the beer garden is one of the most peaceful spots I know of in London.
T. M.
There's so much right about this pub: resolute old school vibes, excellently kept cask ales and friendly staff and locals. Main downside is that it's a Shepherd Neame pub so the core range of beers are mediocre, even if well kept. But there's always a guest ale on worth trying. Go if you don't like the way our local pubs are being gastroed - it's a bastion of a former era.
L. T.
Lovely East end Boozer with live music an absolute gem
P. B.
A proper traditional english pub with a good selection of ales
The staff very friendly, with a jazz sunday they are proud of
R. T.
I've lived across the road from the Eleanor Arms since I was a young lad however never went in there for whatever reason, what a mistake that was.
The Eleanor Arms is one of the last true boozers within the area, the atmosphere, decor and clientele are reminiscent of what made East End boozers so great, the Eleanor Arms still embodies this and because of that it makes the pub stand out amongst the rest.
The drinks are reasonably priced given how much of an uplift there's been on alcohol prices in the area.
The music is always on point and caters to a number of different genres to ensure that it always sounds fresh.
Bar staff are second to none, especially friendly and always polite.
Hats off to one of the most underatted and best boozers in the area.

This is, hands down, the BEST pub ever. Between the fresh, tasty and CAMRA approved range of beers, the awesome selection of whisky, the delicious ports and the great music you have the ingredients for a pub if greatness. This place however, is taken beyond that by the friendly, knowledgeable and musical encyclopedia of a landlord. They have charity quiz nights, specialist music nights and the Minestrone of Sound! Have a look at their Facebook page or pop in. You won't be disappointed! P.S.: this place is so awesome that I even had my wedding there.
N. B.
A great, proper, pub. Super landlord, landlady, and assistant. Excellent beers, expertly kept and fairly priced. Short but attractive wine list. Lots of interesting spirits to tickle one's fancy. Friendly locals. Great quiz. Quality jazz each Sunday. Well integrated into the local community. Real fire, board games, and a busy pool table at the back, by the patio. Regularly wins CAMRA and other awards.
J. V.
Amazing friendly staff, intimate beer garden
M. S.
Nice old east end pub. Watched an Ian dry tribute band , very good evening, nice atmosphere and a good selection of Real Ales
Do hope to visit again. Bar staff are friendly too.
R. S.
First rate East End pub with a good range of excellent real ales. Worth seeking out!
C. H.
One of my favourite pubs in London. A proper pub (not a gastro pub) with a great landlord. Sunday's have great free jazz nights and they let you bring in food. It's a shame more pubs aren't like this.
W. B.
Friendly welcoming local with the best kept beer around. Shepherd Neame pub, but always a guest on. Hard monthly quiz by the landlord, regular jazz and great people around the bar! Whisky and gin selection ain't nothing either.
C. D.
Rare gem, proper pub run by real people for real locals. Very welcoming, offering Shepherd Neame range of beers in good condition. Sunday jazz club is well worth a visit.
M. B. D.
So friendly. The last of the GENUINE EAST END PUB'S NO GASTRO, Just pork scratchings & a wonderful range of beers. Fantastic heated beer garden. Excellent JAZZ CLUB ON SUNDAY'S. Most weeks ther's a improvised session,so bring your INSTRUMENT and have a great time. Even if you are on your own, locals are a very friendly crowd. 10 out of 10
M. B.
We went to the traditional Irish music gig yesterday and loved it. Toes tapping all evening to the talented musicians led by Terence O'Flaherty. I must make a special mention of Terence's lovely voice and James playing the fiddle. The pub is a real East End gem - not easy to find one like it these days. Numerous interesting posters on the walls and really great beers. We will definitely be back.
J. M.
Excellent locals pub with a jazz night on Sunday. Highly recommended and great beers and ales off the hand pump, kept to top cellar standards.
G. H.
Great East End Pub. Top notch Beers from Kent Brewer Shepherd Neame +Guest Ales. All real Beers in superb condition Sunday night music jams and big screen in rear bar for main events. Do visit if you wish to see a great Pub.
K. A. (.
Have been there first time, a amazing neighborhood pub. Will go back on Sunday 8:00 got modern Jazz and keep you posted.
J. S.
Excellent pub with friendly owners that make you feel at home. Great music and pool table too. Favourite local pub by a mile.
A. B.
An exceptionally good community pub. Really well looked after. The landlord and landlady are very friendly and make a huge effort. The 'Minestrone of Sound' is always fun and the quality of the jazz nights are at a really high standard. Whilst the beer is mainly restricted to Shepherd Neame, it is impeccably cellared and the Spitfire is even dry-hopped on the premises.
K. O. B.
Lovely local, Frank always friendly and chatty. Going to miss it during the next lockdown. Good beers, gins and very reasonable prices.
J. L.
Local Pub, lovely character, friendly family staff. Some great Shepard's neame ales on tap. Recommend you go for a real pub experience.
T. H.
Really pretty little pub (outside has clearly been repainted since google picture) which sells a modest range of Shepherd Neame ales + 1 or 2 guest ales/ciders. A surviving East End Local that, whilst keeping its original feel, is starting to cater for the changing demographic of East London with some cool music and a slightly arty feel creeping in. This area needs this pub.
K. T.
Love this pub . Great staff, nice atmosphere. Live jazz on Sundays. Pool table. Clean toilets ,always have a lovely evening. Beer and cider is good.
S. M.
Watch it - they do not serve food - but they don't mind if you bring your own or have pizza delivered. Nice friendly atmosphere, with special events taking place evey week (went for a live jazz night for my only visit thus far). Parking may be difficult.
m. l.
Truly wonderful proper pub
J. F.
Great local pub, friendly landlord, good range of draft ales. Small beer garden and a pool table. Had a great couple of afternoons here last weekend.
A.
A pub with a truly neighbourhood feel. Some words that come to mind when walking through the doors: quaint, cozy, warm, welcoming, neighbours, beer, pub.
It seems a trait of even the slickest of gastro pubs in London to retain a vestige of their former selves within. Generally this entails a prevailing aroma of brews long past, mild griminess, or, in several cases, a lingering flavour of urinal cakes. Not so for The Eleanor Arms.
Instead, during the cooler months, at least, you'll find yourself exclaiming, "Is that woodsmoke I smell? Hmm...and perhaps a hint of spice?". I'm not sure how to characterise it other than saying that it smells like the festive season. I can't speak for the summer, but this is the atmosphere which greeted me in November, and I certainly can't complain.
The pub does fill up quickly, on popular nights, so definitely arrive early unless you don't mind standing.
m. s.
Smashing old-fashioned boozer, nice beers. Pool table and pizza oven too.
l. s.
Friendliest pub around, always a warm welcome. Very friendly staff and locals and great free jazz every Sunday.
T. S.
Could potentially be the best local pub (slightly partial, as I 9 meters from it) with superb staff and cozy atmosphere. Jazz on Sunday's is a must-do!
J. P.
While Bow gentrifies around it, this charming no-nonsense public house remains steadfast to a formula that has won for decades: quality ale on hand pump, open fire, pool, quizzes, live music. Well run, and genuinely old school.
C. E.
Great pub see you there every Tuesday 8pm
A. W.
Brilliant local boozer, and lots of friendly regulars. Good quiz and raffle on the first Thursday of every month to raise money for charity, with a buffet to boot!
T. K.
Nice Pub full of friendly People, good prices and lovely atmosphere. That Was what I expected from an local Pub. Will come back the next If I stay in London.
J. A.
What an amazing boozer. Full range of Shepherd Neame ales and just perfect after a walk along the canal. Treat yourself to a pint of oyster stout, I will be!
K. M.
A quiet early evening drink in the back courtyard/garden Very nice
M. A.
Excellent pub. Its the kind of pub where everyone knows everyone and everyone new is welcomed warmly. Jazz nights on Sundays are a specialty.
C. C.
Lively East End local, with well kept beer, mostly from Shepherd Neame, good music and an excellent landlord. Monthly quiz (first Thursday of each month) is legendary.
