Reviews of Lady Mildmay
D. J.
I wanted to give more stars to this place as they have a lovely staff and the food actually tasted good, but the stake was not tender enough! Well one could say, serves me right ordering a steak!! Anyhow the potatoes were excellent! And I would go back to try something else!
D. T.
An absolutely super pub with a bespoke food menu for the diners. Wonderful people behind the bar, eager to help out with all your drinking and eating needs. A good range of kegs on offer, also a couple of casks running with another one on the way! Open, airy and generally a really pleasant and special atmosphere. I thoroughly recommend a little journey to northish London for a super experience.

Food, Staff, Service, Drinks is ALWAYS AMAZING at the Mildmay. And so’s the vibe too. We’ve lived in Stokey for almost 10’yrs and Lady Mildmay keeps getting better and better.
Total treat to have around the corner. Thanks team!

Had a good experience here, ordered an octopus salad that came fairly quick, was fresh and tasty enough. Nice selection of lagers and ales on tap plus one or two ciders. The barman was nice, happily entertaining my request to try two of the ales before purchasing. The location was great for meeting friends as the roundabout had many different bus routes heading in different directions. Price was alright for the location. I would return to try some of their other dishes on the menu (I was told they sometimes change the meals, displayed on a large chalkboard)

I'm based out SE London nr Greenwich, but have been continually pestered by friends living more N London to come visit this venue for a meal.
I will admit that I should have made the trip a lot earlier! Fantastic menu with high-quality cooking and preparation in pleasant cozy surroundings. They had just changed the menu and we chose calves liver, rib-eye sandwich, and whole fillet of plaice. As you can see from the pics - generous-sized portions! (also - i think their lunch deals are even better...)
Service as well was spot-on, with v friendly staff. Will definitely be back here again!
F. P. (.
Very nice pub in Newington green, good food we had the artichoke soup and the meatballs and we were definitely positively surprised. We will be back!!
A. M.
Great local pub to have a drink and maybe a starter, perhaps not a main dish. I wanted to give more stars but unfortunately the dish I had was terrible, I had a Sicilian sardine pasta which was tasteless, the pasta was way too cooked and it felt as if I was eating a sardines graveyard 🪦.
K. H.
Lovely relaxed atmosphere in an airy friendly local pub. Enjoyable seasonal menu that changes regularly with varied wine list by the glass and bottle. Nice service.
G. G.
Good quality food at reasonable prices, friendly knowledgeable staff and well kept ales. Decent location right on Newingron Green. Lunchtime menu and a pint of Gun Brewery Pale Ale for £11 was excellent.
M. M.
A very good welcoming warm local pub with an incredibly talented chef, knowledgeable staff and prompt unfussy service.
Tapas menu and full dishes depending on hunger level ideal for groups. The chicken wings will buzz your lips from the heat, patatas bravas better than in Spain and the Steak is always done to perfection.
Really lovely ambience and such lovely staff, you'll leave feeling warm and fuzzy.
L. R.
They were very nice with my dog! Food is also nice! 100% recommend!
The fish was a little bit too chewy but didn't ruin because the sauce was amazing.
Will definitely come back. I want to try the roast!
C. G.
Nice food and lovely place. We were a little disappointed with the staff, as they could've been more helpful a couple of times.
s. d. s.
By far the best pub in the area. I eat here regularly and it never fails to disappoint. Excellent service, excellent food and a really cozy local pub. Love it.
L. O.
Absolutely delicious food at mid range prices. Lovely, lovely friendly staff and spacious location. Only reason why not 5 start is that passing traffic can make it hard to hear convos. However the inside/outside dining area is lovely for evening sunspot and breeze.
Would definitely go again cos love their Rhubarb cider too.
L. G.
Food is delicious and a bit different. Pub is super cosy with decent beer selecton and really friendly staff.
N. H.
Open and spacious pub. Feels like they have pulled out a lot of the old features of the original pub, which is sad. Though it feels fairly bland, the staff and location are good.
J. W.
Love this gastropub. Only downside is lack of outdoor space. However you'll always get good food and drinks here!
B. B.
Really great convivial atmosphere, excellent wine list, yummy menu and friendly bar staff make this a favourite "go to" place on Newington Green.
F. D.
This has to be te best pub in Newington Green and Hackney. The food is exquisite, thanks to the Fabulous Delphine. The staff is super nice and professional. I only wish they had continued the table service. Wonderful place and no annoying music
P. L.
A friendly welcome and a sample of 3 ciders to make my choice was a pleasing introduction to this lovely corner gastropub.
I'm seeing my disability we were upgraded on our pre-selected booked seating. Then with a friend who later joined us who ordered the chicken salad with mini water grapefruit, and a my partner ordered the lamb persilade and I got the Steak. They were generous portions as although we were deep in conversation a pleasant hush followed the the occasional ooh and mmmm. So
we shared samples of our individual plates with each other as we were all convinced that convinced that we had the best plate of the day. The persilade with the lamb was exquisite as the mini grapefruit and nuts with the fresh vegetables in the chicken salad was surprisingly good, a yet I delightful contend that med-rare steak, rocket and spuds with a delightful onion sauce was an award deserving concoction. Afterwards I found that we'd all gone separately to thank the chef.
Speaking to chef I found out that the menu changes every Tuesday and I'll definitely be going back to sample some more of The GOOD Lady Mildmay's delicacies.
D. H.
Really nice pub with friendly staff, good drink choice, and incredible food that gets better every time we go
C. L.
Great pub , amazing Food . Highly recommended
J. W.
Great local pub with always delicious food. Super cosy.
S. P.
Lady Mildmay do a lunchtime menu for £8 which is always fantastic food and fantastic value - Had the Pork and Borlotti Bean Stew today which was stunning - Really recommended you try this if you can.
M. &. F. B.
Cozy and friendly place where you feel home. The food is excellent with great products and various dishes.
S. W.
Best roast I've had in London. Friendly and helpful staff. Good price, lovely atmosphere 👌
K. D.
Lovely little local pub serving amazing food
K. F.
Very satisfying lunch rump steak oven braised potatoes with onion and olive, rocket, aioli. Rose meringue, strawberries and cream. Everything well prepared, hearty but not heavy. Tasty and we'll balanced. Good wine. All reasonably priced. A great local.
T. A.
Great pub, friendly staff and really good food. Decent selection of beers too, basically ticks most of the boxes!
T. H.
Good pub. It does solidIislington pub food and has a good range of drinks. You can get decent wine there as well. It is quite cavernous and the noise levels are such that your friends can hear you talking even if you're not shouting directly into their earflaps. Which always goes a long way.
S. K.
One of our locals. After changing names and management a few times over last 10 years, it seems to be settled (but we still miss the Nobody Inn!). Good beer. Tapas or larger meals. Good place for quiet drink or bigger party. Friendly staff.
N. B.
One of my local pubs with amazing food and super chip lunch during the work week (6.5 pounds). Good selection of beers and wines. The place is very spacious and they have a lot of tables.
Also OUTSTANDING cakes!
N. N.
An excellent lunch deal at a fabulous pub
M. R.
Really great beer selection, with excellent food. Perhaps slightly incongruous with putting a review on Google - buts it's also nice and quiet.
Perhaps more accurately, you've got a lot of space, and the pub has nice big tables spread out from each other. If you're after some weekend fun, go The Alma or Hunter S down the road. This is the place for chatting and scoffing the evening away
P. C.
Good beer selection. A trad pub that has been "gasto'd" in recent years. Nice, but somewhat expensive.
M. I.
I went there about three weeks ago to collect an order been placed online. But nothing found remarkable, therefore could not provide five star. I gave three star as the place looks okay and the business was clean and tidy.
C. C.
Go here about 5 times a month, mainly evenings some lunch. It's the best ever. Staff friendly and chatty. Lots of locals sit around the bar and chat on own or with mates.
Cosmopolitan.
Food to die for. I rave about it and those I take there agree. Reasonably priced, great selection and I congratulate the chef.
Clean, spacious, big windows. I love it
S. P.
The atmosphere in the pub is great and the staff are super friendly, however the Sunday Roast was somewhat lacklustre - the potatoes weren't at all crispy and the rest wasn't up to the same scratch as other roasts in the area. I'd definitely come back for a drink, but not for a roast.
L. C.
Pleasing to find a bar that conforms to its own ways - its relaxed and very calm in here allowing time to enjoy the beers on offer without the hooting noise you find in almost every other place nearby. A drink and a bench in the warm sun are very welcome indeed and a pleasure to see them return
M. M.
Great pub with delicious food for an impromptu dinner. Can not count how many times I have been here for a drink or. weeknight dinner. Really delicious food in a relaxed setting.
G. D.
This is an excellent gastropub.
The building has been lovingly restored, and is rather cavernous inside (it could perhaps do with a little more decoration, however) so one can usually count on simply turning up and finding a table. The staff are very friendly and the beers are top notch - an interesting selection and very well kept.
The real star, however, is the food. The menu is inventive and constantly changing, and the quality of the ingredients and the cooking is extremely high. Prices are a little higher than typical pub fare (around £15 for a main), but the food is better than at most restaurants in the area, and as there is no table service there is also no service charge, so what you see on the menu is what you pay.
Well worth a visit if you're looking for a casual dining experience with excellent food.
j. M.
I usually stay in the Newington Greens area when I go to London and always try to have at least one dinner at Lady Mildmay. It is a standard quiet pub with a nice selection of wines, and excellent, inexpensive (by London standards) food. This is a very nice pub to have dinner with friends in a relaxing atmosphere. I have been there several times and always enjoyed it.
G. H.
I went here with friends for a Sunday roast. It was a very busy afternoon and so we were waiting a good 40 minutes for food, but we weren't disappointed. The Sunday lunch was very tasty with the great addition of cauliflower cheese! Staff were friendly and everything was reasonably priced for central London!
B. C.
The only good time to go is for Sunday roast (Get there early @12 midday or book otherwise it gets busy - the vegetarian roast is good - nothing for Vegans though as all cooked in butter & honey).
Other times there isn't a good vibe - the evenings there are a strange feeling - very bright lighting and no ambiance. I'd recommend The Cellars pub down the road for any evening drinks.
m. s.
Couldn't fault anything. Nice comfortable pub. Particularly good for London breweries. Haven't tried the food but the menu is very interesting. Full meals plus tapas menu. Prices very reasonable
r. h.
Staff are great here, brilliant food,
I.
I live down the road, I've eaten there many times on week nights and I find the food brilliant, but the Sunday roast today was a massive disappointment. The meat was bland and not amazing, we got one slice per person only, and the veg was pretty much non existing: 2-3 runner beans per person, two potatoes and one (1, really) thin carrot each. For some reason everything was floating in A LOT of ridiculously watery gravy.
We were especially interested in trying it because like I already said, we do like the food there. Also, a few people have recommended the roast, and we had friends visiting so we thought it'd be a nice treat for them -but we ended up apologising to them. The place was full and it looked to us like they decided to cut the food by half and feed twice as many people instead of selling it out, also adding loads of water to the gravy to make more. Really really bad. I am giving 3 stars because of the quality of the rest of the food, but to be honest, the roast we have today deserves zero.
B. A. O.
Hearty tasty blokish vibes. Good food. British. Staff are congenial and work earnestly to keep on top but it has the feel of a long thoroughfare. Needs some soft furnishings to ease them acoustics.
T. K.
Good food, however I could have done with more lamb in my roast for £16.
Not sure I'll be back until they put more craft kegged beer on.
In 2017, there's no need to have four of your eight taps serving boring, mass-produced continental lager.
S. C.
Absolutely glorious food, good selection of beer and friendly staff. OK it's not cheap but if you want a microwaved burger for a fiver then go to Wetherspoons. Great pub, and for the quality, great value.
I. H.
5 star pub. 5 star service..!
T. B.
Came here to relax and had a good drink and a sit-down. bit quiet but they're all really decent sorts in there. Good for outdoors without the mobile phone crowd
D. S. R.
We booked the back room for our wedding lunch and it was perfect for 22 people. The food was excellent and Olivia and Gary were very effective and helpful all the time. Thank you Lady Mildmay!!!
W. G.
First of all, they installed disabled ramps (I am in a wheelchair). Nobody bothered until they took over.
Very friendly
And proper opening hours - 11:00 to 11:00. (None of this opening at 5 for the yuppies)
A proper pub
More later. Will be coming back
J.
A great pub with a menu that's almost too good for pub grub! Staff have always been very friendly and there's usually a decent selection of beers available.
M. G.
Had a great party here with friends and family.. about 30 of us! ( we booked the dining area ) Staff were lovely and food was fab. Highly recommended!!
K. D.
Great sunday roast, great presentation of food. Sadly no table service thus order from bar, no menu's on tables. Overall system both ordering and arriving to table is poorly managed. Good sidedoor access by request for wheelchair users. Good clientele.
J. C.
They recently opened and have been decorating and improving the place a lot. The food was great, a bit pricy for a pub meal, but great quality and flavours. The piri piri chicken and the Eaton mess were delicious.
K. H.
Busy, buzzing bar/restaurant on the corner of Newington Green. A wide selection of ales, lagers, wines and spirits. An excellent menu including regular specials and Sunday roast.
L. D.
Really lovely roast lunch. Took a fair while to arrive and perhaps the menu needs more vegetarian options to cater better for the local demographic.
J. W.
The food is pretty good if overpriced but this is a restaurant pretending to be a pub. Staff hovered around giving my girlfriend and I dirty looks as they didn't want us drinking in there at 10pm on a Friday night.
G. T.
A unique pub with unique people. Very clean with a great atmosphere for a drink or for lunch/dinner. Food was simply amazing!!
S.
Miles away from me, but so good I'd love to go again. Affordable but absolutely delicious, and a great atmosphere. Best restaurant I've been to in a long time.
E. S.
Good food, well prepared and nice ingredients. Highly recommend. This pub has a good vibe, chill and really nice on a sunny day. Thanks!
D. J.
Standard large pub with gastro ambition, probably the best option in the Newington Green area for food or drinking in a group.
There's a good selection of beer and some good food.
M. W.
We have eaten here before and enjoyed it but something was lacking this time. Maybe it was over crowded and the chef's were run off their feet. It was a very expensive meal that we did not really enjoy.
I. Y.
Nice pub with a friendly atmosphere. The food I tried was all great.
Closed at 11pm on a Friday, which was a shame.
B. P.
Fantastic food at this pub, I was with a LARGE party and all the food was super yummy, great big area out the back would be 5* if there was a beer garden.
M. B.
Eaten here 3 times in the last week. The menu and food is superb. Friendly staff. Good ales. Happy to have it on my doorstep.
M. M.
Nice local pub, spacious, good range of beers and food. Just stayed for a drink but food looked good - mid to high level pub food and gastro-snax
M. H.
Good foods reasonable prices
R. S.
The Mildmay is my local and one of the best pubs in the area. Friendly knowledgeable staff, great beer and wine list and fantastic food . A real treasure. 😊
A. K.
Nice vibes but the food could get a bit more love. The food does not fulfil the expectations given the price. Nice space and friendly staff.
J. R.
Good food. Good booze. But best of all, was the 6 foot something dark haired Australian dream boat working the bar.
L. C.
The best local you could wish for. Super friendly staff, the best pint of Sagres in London and delicious food (especially the Sunday roast)! Highly recommended!!!
F.
Really very good food, nice atmosphere.
E. W. M.
Excellent evening at the Lady Mildmay. The menu was out of this world, so different from the usual pub fare, great ambiance and the service was superb. Can't wait to return!

A much nicer pub than when it was the dissenting academy. Feels much more sure of itself. The bar had a good selection.
C. M.
thankfully open on a very quiet Monday afternoon - the perfect place for a serious deep and meaningful over a few pints of Birra Moretti.
