Reviews of Leyton Technical Pub
K. K.
Very unique pub with 5 or maybe 6 separate rooms. Interior is old-fashioned very cosy, you can find comfortable chairs or even a sofa to sit on and the atmosphere is relaxing. Definitely gonna visit again 😊
A. G.
Friendly staff members, however not great customer service at times. This place is huge and could do with some refurbishment( walls, seats are dent)App to order the food isnt working.Music could be more recent and lively too, especially on weekends. Overall good place to have a quick drink.
P. W.
Beer always nice here. Plenty of real ale choice which is stored and served well.
Very busy on football days, which can be a pain when getting a drink, but there are plenty of comfortable chairs and settees to sit.
Would thoroughly recommend having a real ale here, best ale in Leyton.
M. W.
Period grand old building. Pub is located within the old town hall. Quirky decor and nice high ceilings throughout with loads of space. Good range of drink and well kept beers. Service somewhat slow
P. P.
By far the best pub experience in Leyton!!! Great interior and very spacious with several rooms to choose from. Good selection of beers and nice wines. The food is also yummy with a small selection of tasty dishes around 10 quid per dish. Open till late on aFridays and Saturdays and good mix of regular events. I keep on coming back! The staff are friendly and overall vibe is really positive.
S. w.
My family hired one of the rooms out for my late dad's celebration wake.
We used the wide-screen TV to play a fantastic amount of photos celebrating dad and his family and life we had downloaded.
Food was good, atmosphere relaxed.
Close by to dad's final resting place and right round the corner to his beloved O's.
Grateful that it went as planned so thanks to all staff involved.
Ps. Dad would have been happy with a Guinness 💙
P. M.
Big quirky pub with mismatching furniture and a lovely chilled atmosphere. Beers well kept.
M. L.
Fantastic pub. Great prices. Superb service. Will definitely come back here again.
L. C.
Nice, chilled out local pub. Relaxed. Plenty of space for walk ins. Great service. Good roast dinner...Plenty of gravy and decent Yorkshire pudding. Only thing I'd say...could have had more meringue in the Eton mess. Wasn't much in there. Was mainly cream. Tasty still but just needed less cream/more meringue. Will go back!

Yes,another temple that cannot be mistaken with any other pub.Leyton's former townhall has turned into a public house, and yes,the deco is appropriate, old school, cared for,a few rooms to choose from in the same coherent style.A simple trip to the restrooms is an underground journey of it's own, same attention to the deco and "vintageness"... if such word ever existed.
E. C.
A great wine and craft beer selection, plenty of seating and lots of character.
G. P.
Amazing space and interior itself, decent food, maybe a bit overpriced having in mind quality and quantity, but still ok. A lot of thematic events makes it worth checking again.
A. C.
Lovely staff set Ina beautiful grandios older building filled with mid century furniture. We both had the burger, due to googlee Lawrence's rave reviews of it being the best burger he had ever had. It was underwhelming and they could have done with better burger meat (see photos attached)- the bun was good and so was the slaw which is why I have awarded 4 stars( the extra points came from the very nice staff)
D. C.
Ordinary pub where people order pizza’s. Not my style and the prices of drinks changed each time we order the same drink… kinda weird.
I. T. D.
Great afternoon of drinks, bar staff really helpful and nice.
R. F.
In need of a bit of TLC but I really like this pub. Good beer reasonably priced.
M. I.
We went here from the Olympic park about a15 min walk from the top of the park. Felt slightly disorganised and they had no bitters available. Sunday lunch was tasty and not bad value and the Yorkshire was massive. Staff were pleasent and not pushy also an interesting building being the old technical college.
m. s.
Very nice pub ... Good beer, good prices, great ambience, scary toilets ...
M. F.
Great building excellent pre match atmosphere, friendly locals, recommended especially as Crawley won!
J. L.
Great building that has seen better days, glad it's still used by the local community rather being abandoned.
C. B. (. L.
Popular local pub. Good atmosphere, good quality food.
*2022 update.
No kitchen at present. Pub has facilities for getting a pizza delivery.
S. C.
Nice comfy sofa's, great decor, good food & service. Very convenient from Leyton central line tube. Will defo be a regular
J. C. L.
Absolutely Nice pub to enjoy and drink
M. L.
Wonderful Oasis - great food and atmosphere. Staff are great - totally recommended.
S. S.
Fascinating venue with great beer and atmosphere. Ideal for a few afternoon or evening drinks
T. J.
Good choice of beers good atmosphere
l. E.
Staff are lovely, helpful and humorous. Food is delicious but quite pricey. Lots of good ale and cider to choose from, and the music is great! Would recommend. (Loooong walk to the toilets!! 😄 but lots of interesting things to look at on the way to the loos!)
E. T.
It's my local and I love it. The building is great and old, It's really spacious and have fancy vintage sofas and armchairs. Also serves dinner until 10pm and have an outside space with benches for smokers. Beers are average London prices and there's a good selection. It hosts many live performances from music to comedy and a Wednesday pub quiz as well. I like to go there and read a book in peace but it's a good place to meet new people as well. Staff is really friendly and available (:
S. S.
Went last night and the venue is great. From the decor, furniture, layout of mini rooms and variety of beers makes it 4 stars. However, for me what made it 5 stars was the staff. They really go the extra mile in service and the cute bar lady had the 5 star smile along with sufficient knowledge of her products. Probably the best pub I've been to for a while. Thanks keep it going and make Gamma Ray beer on tap forever!
S. J.
It's a big place on the outside but cosier on the inside. The have a small selection of guest beers and their food is slightly better than the average pub. There are a few tables across the bar area and a few nooks to hide in. They also have a dining area but I've not seen it in use. They hold various events each month one of which is an AV jam where electronic musicians and visual artists join up and improvise for a few hours. The transport links are good if it's not your local and it imposes on a vibrant east end high street.
G. G.
Great Pub. Limited opening but once it start it's fabulous. Lovely staff, very friendly & efficient. We booked a room for a birthday party gathering ordering food & drinks as we went along. Love the shabby chic but actually authentic surroundings. Just discovered my Father-in-law went here when it really was a Technical College & went on to be the Director of the Science Museum. Leyton rocks.
N. H.
Located in a beautiful old town hall, this was really the first "gentrified" pub in the Leyton area. Don't be put off by this though, it has become a key part of the community. The decor is vintage and comfortable. If you want to eat there is a separate area for food. The beer selection is really good particularly if you like craft beer.
H. L.
Good pub for a drink (nice and big), but I won’t go for food again. I took my family for Sunday lunch 10th Feb. Food came out lukewarm, and just wasn’t very tasty. The quality seems to have slipped very noticeably (I live locally and had a great roast last summer!). Staff were friendly & attentive but when we were asked how it was, and I said ‘not great actually’ and mum said ‘only okay’ (here having gone back for a microwaving once and still being lukewarm) there wasn’t any attempt to make that right.
K. W.
Nice atmosphere nice friendly staff
r.
This is a very large pub with a vast range of drinks. The pub was very busy with football fans but they didn't seem to have enough staff to keep up. Had to wait a good 10-15 minutes every time we went to the bar, Needs better organisation at busy times.
R. M.
Pretty spacious and trying to rock the shabby chic look. The vibes not too bad and the staff are friendly enough. A good shout if you're just looking for somewhere to stop for a quick pint or 2 with a friend but I cant imagine being there for a piss up or a night out
P. C.
Very impressive place for anyone who wants to have dinner with drinks at the venue. Very friendly place to meet the local people and those who live further away.
For the people who enjoy watching the World Cup in front of the giant screen, the place generate incredible atmosphere. Unforgettable experience watching England matches.
J. C.
This is a local pub with friendly staff and security. The plus side of this public house is that it's half way between a wine bar and a public house. The toilets are a bit similar to that of a third world looking countries. They are located in the cold, dump and rusty basement. However the atmosphere is great
M. D.
Old fashioned style pub with rooms that can be booked for functions. Situated conveniently on main road in Leyton.
A. K.
I loved this pub and will certainly be returning! It is inside the old Town Hall and the building is full of character! I loved the way it has been done up and the furnishings used. Drinks were reasonably priced and the food (I had the beef burger) was very good quality and delicious. Staff were very friendly and attentive!
S. P.
We're moving into the area and I'm super happy this pub is just up the road. The foyer & rooms of the old town hall makes for an impressive setting, with plenty of space to sit on couches or at dining tables. There's a decent selection of beer and nice wines and the menu was good pub fare. Service was friendly & helpful. Looking forward to being a repeat offender of the main size mac'n'cheese.
N. M.
Good ambiance when you walk in. Feels like you are transported back a hundred years! Whether that's what you like or not is another matter. Service was good and prices are competitive however the bar staff used their hands to touch my sugar cube which was a bit nasty. Otherwise a pleasant experience.
M. H.
Amazing looking pub. Great choice of beer and friendly helpful staff. After eating here a few times I can say the food is excellent. I'm surprised it's so honestly priced as well, such good value for London.
J. K.
Friendly atmosphere, good selection of craft beers and ales served in an interesting old building. Food is good too. Oh, and entertaining live acts. Would get 5 if they trained a cocktail maker.
A.
Nice enough pub in a historic building. Good beer selection (both real cask ale and craft lager). Both staff we dealt with seemed new and inexperienced. Food arrived lukewarm. Was good though.
I. R.
Loved this place! Staff were really friendly , the menu was great, varied and perfect for any vegetarians in our group. Pretty reasonable prices and the pub itself is really quirky and nice ! Deffinately recommend this place. Will become a regular I think!
T. K.
Really outstanding selection of real ales and some excellent food too. Stumbled across this quirky pub.
Been twice now. Beer excellently conditioned and second time I stayed for food. Very good, if a tad pricey.
O. P.
A great old sprawling pub, there's a fantastic collection of different rooms, some of which are available for hire, all full of character. That's a good selection of beers and drinks, and great meat and veggie roasts on a Sunday, the staff have been friendly and helpful whenever were visited.
N. B.
Fantastic pub with a wide selection of beers on tap and in bottles. Shows sports, great food menu and a really interesting interior in the old public library. Lively and friendly on match days (Orient) too.
p. h.
Great place to go for a drink. Family is welcome until 9pm. We had a great time. Staff are super friendly. The lager is superb. Studio lager is well worth a go. I love this place for a friendly family pre 9pm drink.
M. R.
Great beer good atmosphere
s. g.
Decent pre match boozer for away fans
R. v. V.
Quaint little pub with good food and friendly staff
A. G.
Went here on a match day, after a Leyton Orient game. It's really nice -- and not too busy, even at that time, on a Saturday. The inside is interesting; like an abandoned hotel. The decor isn't especially cohesive but that's fine. Interesting drinks — lots that I hadn't heard of, and looked local — and not too expensive. Everything feels a little thrown together, but that's not a problem. I didn't have food (and don't know whether they even do food)..
B. W.
I really like this place. I've only gone there alone for dinner when working in London and they were fine with giving me a table and the service was good. Great gourmet pub food and a nice atmosphere. They have live music often. Conveniently located for a stop on the home from the Leyton tube station.
D. S.
Cool bar, based in the old Leyton town hall. Quite trendy and popular with locals with big beards and man buns. The alcohol selection is good (with a beer menu!), as is the food served in the bar. What I don't understand however, is why the whole place smells of solvents? It's truly horrible...
B. C.
Amazing building & premises, and decor wise they’ve got shabby chic down to a T, good selection of drinks, great music & friendly bar staff.
Used to be my local for food on a Sunday, but no longer, since they’ve changed the menu and sadly removed most plantfood dishes.
The Northcote does vegan pizza, and Heathcoate has a decent vegan burger, and some other plant based stuff, so does the Star for those looking for plantfood.
L. L.
Beautiful decor. Shared a fantastic vegan burger here. The wine selection is great value for money. Intend to visit this pub much more in the future.
M. K.
Couple of different brews on offer and friendly staff. session beer 3.30 🤞👍
C. K.
Had an amazing veg Sunday roast where it was 100%freshly handmade.
Fantastic service and highly recommend anyone to try it out. Although the drinks were taf pricey for the area, but can't fault the food or service
E. R.
Warm, friendly and a cracking selection of local ales at a very reasonable price. Need to work on the pub menu as it's not to everyone's taste however it more than makes up for it with friendly staff, good booze and a beautiful surroundings.
M. “. O. K.
Another Antic pub so expect shabby chic decor, reasonably priced quality food and an extensive selection of beers. Just be aware they tend to price their keg beers as if they were in the city, so unless you really want to pay close to £7 a pint, stick to cask.
Big place with lots of side rooms, it used to be the Town Hall.
D. C.
From the outside it looks amazing, but when you go in things are totally different, and not in a good way.
Everything inside is old and not in a "old worth a lot of money way", but old in the "this is just old rubbish, you should throw it away" way, which is unpleasant. There are also some stairs on one side of the main room taking to a panel covering the wall which make you feel like the place is under construction/renovation, but open to the public anyway.
Average selection of beers you can find in most of the pubs in London.
Maybe it's ok If you're around and want to go for a quick pint, otherwise it's much better going somewhere else (which is valid in general when talking about Leyton).
R. S.
This is a long overdue and welcome addition to the area.
Its an unusual building for a pub seems quite hidden from the outside but this only adds to the charm.
Relaxed atmosphere, good food and great selection of Ales. Keep up the sterling work!
C. D.
Typical Antic stripped back conversion of the grand old college building. Pick any of 3 rooms in which to enjoy a decent range of beers in all formats. Friendly staff, regular music & other entertainment events take place.
H. 8.
I love the decor of this place. Worth coming to for that alone. Drinks are many and reasonable in price. I believe they serve good food too but I may be mistaken. Cool.
R. G.
Pretty good place. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff. Will definitely be back. Will definitely not buy whisky here again though! ££££!!
F. C.
Good popular pub in a Victorian building as I like it. Perfect for a pre match pint. Lively and not too crowded. Good choice of beers and great music.
I. M.
Great pub, real character and really huge, a lovely old building with amenable staff and reasonably priced drinks. A great find for those around the Leyton area, special mention to Glaswegian Sam who made our night most enjoyable x
D. P.
If you don't interpret eclectic as scruffy, old, smell, dusty, mismatched, uncomfortable, in need of a good clean, manky, labyrinthian, dark, chipped, musty, dim, noisy and just junk everywhere you will love this place. Food can be great or really weird and God help you if you have a lactose intolerance ...I crapped for 3 days. Staff are nice and kind, (a bit slow to clear up but who can tell for the clutter?) but as this can be a stop gap on their tour of England from another country you need to be very clear what you want as a ginger beer and lemonade nearly ended up in the same glass.
N. Z.
Went there for Sunday roast with a group of friends, we all had pork belly. The food was ok, but it wasn't amazing. Pork belly was fatter than usual - hard to find any meat on it. The dish was pretty dull, it was missing salt and pepper (and I don't normally use much salt). It's a nice pub and there isn't much alternative in Leyton, but the food was nothing special.
S. D.
I visited here over the weekend to sample their menu and generally check out the place. It's very rare that something with the potential to be nice opens in this part of London, and being a semi-regular at their other, established venue The Red Lion in Leytonstone I was expecting something relatively similar. The pub is inside the old town hall so the venue itself is quite impressive, but I found the layout inside a little strange and very separated. There's a main bar area with a few seats, and something similar to a dining room near the back of the pub which looked quite cosy. I was quite irritated to discover on arrival that they don't sell food (or apparently, have a kitchen) despite the fact that there is a very detailed menu on their site. A nice local spot for a quick drink, but I think this pub has a bit of work to do before it comes fully established and a real 'local'.
P. B.
Great pint and Staff, a very decent pint of Blue Moon.
R. S.
I visited this pub in 2014, as Brentford beat Orient to see off their League One challenge at the time. I had a few drinks and the place was a bit confusing, but I'll give it a cautious thumbs up
A. A.
Great ambience, with a good mixture of separate sitting sections and good selection of drinks. Tasty food, occasionally nice live music, which thanks to the seating set-up you can choose to be close to or not. All round winner.
P. C.
One of the best pubs I've ever been in, pity it ain't up north then the beer would be ace. Subtle lighting and chilled tunes create a great atmosphere in this fine building.
N. R.
Antic conversion of a grand old building, with the usual assortment of mismatched furniture and intriguing ephemera. A good few hand pumps (though fewer ales were on) and an uninspired choice of keg beers, but with craft bottles on offer to make up for it.
R. C.
Decent ales. Lovely old building. Rooms are great for lounging around supping ale. Does the music have to be so loud when there are only about 6 people in the place?
A. d. l. T.
Such a wonderful place to have a beer in an awesome atmosphere! You'll feel cozy and comfortable in its rooms, reminding of an old library!
B. B.
Had a really great time, the atmosphere was great with sweet tunes. But... the DJ just came on and the music changed and people left and it kinda dipped.
Good food too though.
W. O.
Lovely cosy place, with a friendly atmosphere. Also with various areas to reside with your food and drink.
Great customer service and friendly staff.
F. W.
Awesome place for a chill evening. If you are lucky you may get in during one of the event night and you may find some cool gig or a themed party. Good food and good beers
J. M.
Lovely rambling old site (Good luck finding the loos without thinking of old Scooby-doo episodes), staffed by a friendly gang. Good beer selection, decent wine list and the Sunday roast is delish.
S. K.
Good beer selection and food menu is also fair to good. Ex council building does not scream 'pub' and the raw/half finished state of the insides suggests a Shoreditch style place. Leyton needs some Shoreditch! Also no sport is shown and extra security on home games keeps out the scum. An overall positive experience.
C. B.
New to me, but I liked it, somewhere different. Comfy sofas, nice areas to meet and chat. And they had Campari? Not everywhere does, so it gets my vote. Will visit again.
A. M.
Shout out to the cheery chappy bar tender who asked me if I wanted gold or silver tequila, proceeded to sing 'Gold' by Spandau Ballet and when he gave me some lime slices and I asked where the song about them was, after a moment's contemplation broke into 'you put the lime in the coconut and mix it all up' 😂😂😂
M. A.
Decent modern pub.
T. M.
Something different for East London. Trendy place with lots of different beers. Shabby chic and a great atmosphere. Especially fun if you're going to an Orient match.
F. S.
Very nice pub and excellent service.
W. M.
I saw the world's cup final here. Although i came late and it was crowdy they managed to find me a place to seat. Good prices, not too big menu.
D.
Good beer and friendly service. Absolutely loved John Orchard the piano Man 'sing along a John'. Hope he comes back soon
P. P.
Honestly my favourite pub in London. Nice building, amazing decoration, great staff, delicious food, good music (every night is different) and comfortable atmosphere! Best pub so far!
S. G.
Decent pub with a good atmosphere. There were eight different hand pulled beers available along with lagers & the food was good & reasonably priced too.
D. H.
Went there after visiting a Leyton match. The pub was packed but it still had a great and friendly athmosphere. Prices were okay. Would come again if visiting a match there.
D. J. B.
Sound space, old town hall turned boozer. Food tries to be a tad radical and portions can be small. Good for a sophisticated booze.
L. H.
Beautiful old pub with great beer and lovely staff. Can even bring your own food in. Two pints costs £6.20...bargain!
M. L.
Nice place, good drink selection, but takes the hipster shabbiness a bit too far. Toilets are grim.
B. T.
In my opinion this is the best pub on Leyton, excellent place to drink a Blue Moon and to eat burguers, the pub is on an old building with a library and the music is always good classic rock'n'roll, perfect!
T. d. S.
Popped in for a beer after watching Orient. So busy it was hard to tell what it'd be like if there weren't a hundred football fans in. Good selection of beers though
P. B.
Great pub and great beer. The building adds to the charm and the foods been lovely each time I've eaten there.
s. n.
Favourite pub in Leyton! It is huge with a nice decor and a good selection of drinks and food. A true gem. Totally recommend .
O. V.
Nice pub with friendly staff, food has been good the two times we have eaten there.
M. G.
All round good performance! Some select beers and interesting vintage setup. Plenty of seating. Never empty. The Swedes would say lagom 👌
C. L.
I detect the influence of Budapest ruin bars in this pub. A strange multiroomed affair and a lot more casual and higgledy-piggledy old furniture and bric-a-brac.
An excellent range of ales on offer and a short walk from Brisbane Road. What more could a chap ask for?
Nut and fig (veggie) burger was a bit dry and cardboardy but Leyton High Road has gazillions of decent eateries.
L. M.
Always good to visit an Antic pub!
Y. T.
Good variety of beers, bit expensive though. Has many rooms if you want a more relaxed environment, and you can choose a board game, too.
P. H.
Friendly atmosphere interesting decor.
D. S.
Very good real ale pub 10 minuites from Leyton orient fc
Serves 7 hand pumped real ales from 3 local breweries well worth visit when in Leyton
N. M.
Class little pub, good food good music and impressive building. Perfect for the crowd that's moving into Leyton, can't wait until it's half as popular as it should be!
D. G.
Pre match beverage in here. Very nice pub. Quite a hike to the toilets but think of the exercise !!
Really good pub
L. H.
Great local pub, huge so we can always get a table. Good choice of beers and good value food!
W. P.
I really love this place - the food is just so good and reasonably priced. Forget about the decor and just decide whether you are going to eat in the pub or restaurant area and enjoy.
M. M.
Very big and cosy pub-bar which looks liked a disused library. Staff are charming... great food and u can ask for cocktails 😁😁😁
L. O. D.
Finally a decent pre-match pub to be proud of. Huge selection of top ales and craft beers on tap and just round the corner from Orient's ground
C. G.
The Leyton Technical is a local institution. Equally popular with working class locals, students on a night out or home and away fans visiting the nearby Leyton Orient Football Club. Be aware that it does get crowded on match days so a quick check to see if the Mighty Orient are at home would be a good idea before meeting here for a quiet pint.
M. A.
Beer was OK, although not the best. Prices not bad at all.
Great atmosphere tho, and welcoming by the locals and football fans.
a. n.
Great easy going pub. Good vibe , friendly staff and good selection of beers. A nice addition to the area.
T. D.
Great pub with lots of seating and good constantly changing menu with a huge range of beers and ales on tap.
E. R.
Amazing pub.
H. T.
4 stars would have been 5 but they ran out of prosecco on a Saturday night!! Great pub, lovely staff, nice place to hang out.
A. M.
Nice staff, fair prices for london but a distinctly average roast dinner, beef was overcooked and for some unholy reason they have decided nutmeg is okay to put in Yorkshire pudding.
J. R.
Fantastic!!! A much needed and long waited for addition to the Leyton scene with excellent atmosphere, a great selection of beers and a fantastic cuisine!!! It has become my local and will be for years to come!!!
G. E.
My favorite local pub in Leyton! Always enjoying coming here for a beer or two. Also the meals are nice, for a good price.
J. P.
Great selection of beers on tap. Comfy seating and enjoyable food. 👍👍
p. l.
Drank in here a couple of times. Unique set up and decor as its in the old town hall. Not a bad pub but just can't gel with it.
L. J.
Same owners as Leytonstone's Red Lion and Forest Gate's Forest Tavern. Nice place. Set up of rooms is odd as it's in the Town Hall building
J. Q. L.
Great pub quiz. Decent selection of beers! A bit pricey
S. L.
Even if I'm neither Gal Mc Arthur nor Terminator, just can say : I'll be back... God willing 😉
D. B.
I was on a pub crawl and what I remember of the Leyton technical was it had a high ceiling. I wasn't there long and it didn't seem very welcoming
I. K.
Lovely pub with a nice menu for beers. Quirky style and good location.
M. C.
Like this pub. It gets the shabby East London look just right, when some pubs just look plain ol’ shabby. Grand building. Good Sunday roast.
M. P.
Good range of craft beer and ales. Nice food that is reasonably priced.
J. W.
Good pub. gets busier on the weekend with DJs and music - good night out. Food served during the day and week and pub quiz.
D. S.
Loved it.great staff.
R. B.
Nice but expensive when it's a pub bar close to a football ground. We only had one pint,
M. S.
Gastro pub with a decent stock of beers on tap and from little local breweries. Service outstanding.
F. M.
Good music, big variety of beers and spirits. Too crowded at weekends! Love it!!
P.
The service, food, selection of beers and venue in general are outstanding.
The decor and furniture give the place a great atmosphere.
M. B.
Delicious food, good choice of drinks, interesting building, and the staff are friendly.
B. A.
A cool, reasonably-priced pub with lots of character, space and friendly staff (and bike racks outside).
E. B.
Came here for a lecture, really interesting venue. Good range of drinks and snacks behind the bar, but we didn't stay for food.
N. R.
Nice friendly atmosphere, decent food and good social activities/classes. Reasonably priced top boozer.
W. S.
Amazing place with exceptional decor. Good prices and lots of space. Would highly recommend this place!
P. N.
Very friendly and helpful staff, very good drinks and food, classic inside decoration and furniture. More than expected ...
D. S.
Love the atmosphere here.Food comes on the table pretty quick and staff is really nice
E. C.
