Reviews of Lord Clyde Southwark Bridge
D. C.
A proper London local
The are formulas you just don’t mess with. Lord Clyde Southwark Bridge’s variables are beer, bar food and benches. What does it equal? Comfort.
My colleague and I sat there chatting about the world. The horse racing aired on the TV. The barman stood focussed on the next potential customer approaching the entrance.
We ordered food, an easy choice given the limited menu. It arrived expediently. My Pieminister jackfruit and ale pie atop pie and mash was a thing of beauty. It tasted beautiful too.
My colleague finished his pint before popping to the kazi. I took a better look around, admiring the beauty of the elegant historical decor. They don’t make ‘em like this anymore.

Was lucky enough to find this little Gem last week, now this is what I call a proper traditional London pub.
Great selection of drinks and food was lovely too. It was all topped off with a great conversation with the landlord John at the bar.
People seem to have forgotten what it's about going in a pub and having a chat.
(Get your heads out of your phones people)
And go visit this pub and John and his team.
I will be back soon for sure.
Thanks again
C. H.
Favourite pub in SE1! Nice and cosy inside in the winter, but also a great spot to sit outside in the summer. Decent pint of Guinness as well.
M.
Great London pub serving excellent real ale. Both rooms were very busy on our visit which gave a really good pre Christmas vibe. A real classic pub.
L. L.
A fantastic traditional pub with great food and super friendly staff. Great little seating area out front as well for drinks on a sunny day. Highly recommend a visit if you haven’t already
S. P.
Old pub.. What a treat great welcome good beer and food.. Locals friendly.. I'll will be back
A.
A no frills, hidden gem of a boozer. If you've ever asked yourself where the London pubs that actually "feel" like London pubs are hiding, this is your answer. Friendly staff pour from a decent selection of taps in an atmosphere that feels both family-run and neighbourhood-centric. Great place to find Pieminister pies, to boot!
M. A.
A great traditional pub with a strong strong selection of cask ale. After showing London visitors around London we looked for a traditional boozer and here came the Lord Clyde. We were giving a selection of beers to sample and after chatting to their manager we had to try the pies and a 10/10 from all of us. We will return again the next time the Sheffield guys are back in town.
J. B.
One of London’s last remaining “proper boozers”
A real gem, a good pint, good pie and mash. A real London pub. Landlord was very friendly with a great knowledge of the area. Will definitely be coming back
w. w.
Had a great evening here, hadn't been in years and was worried it might have changed, glad to say it was as good as ever with fantastic traditional interior. Great atmosphere, good mix of locals and great food and drink. Pie and mash deal is a winner! Thanks and won't leave it as long next time!
Z. H.
Have walked past this pub many a time but chanced it this weekend and so glad we did. Great vibe, food was fab and fantastic service. Makes a change to be greeted by a great big smile.
R. S.
A bangin' pub all round!
Superb quality Guinness, proper wooden interior - and of course a dart board! Unable to play darts at the night time due to risk of hitting people. They do have darts behind the bar to play during the day time though. Very friendly bar staff. If you're wanting a quintessential English pub experience, look no further than this place!
P. S.
Comfortable pub, serving real ale in an un-mucked-about-with atmosphere.
No nasty plastic tables and chairs. Quite a bit of velour and knocked about tables.
All very nice and comfy.
Pint for £4.90. Well kept. Pleasant service.
Neat and tidy.
Used to come here quite often pre pandemic. Not been to a London pub since lockdown. The Lord Clyde was massively busy on a rugby Saturday…and no sign of any distancing (taking out tables etc).
Setting is in a south London council estate but this is not a grotty pub, by any means. Recommended.
S. G.
My husband and I came here based on a recommendation and we were not disappointed. We ordered Fish & Chips from the daily specials and a pie and mash from the main menu. Both meals were piping hot and tasted very good. The service was efficient and friendly and there was a good atmosphere in the pub.
R. F.
Always a good visit. Came at lunchtime.
Nice fires keeping you warm. Wine and beer were good. Wish we had eaten here, they have a good lunchtime deal.
S. A.
Great traditional pub, with a good range of drinks and a very welcoming landlord. Can't wait to go back and try one their amazing looking pies.
J. C.
A fantastic pub. Lovely beer and very tasty food at reasonable prices. Very friendly welcome. Highly recommended
J. J.
Been to many pubs in Borough but this one is a little gem. What a great find and the Landlord John is friendly and welcoming. Atmosphere was ace and the pies are to die for, will be back!
D. M.
If you're looking for an old style, cosy London pub in the London Bridge / Southwark area. Then your search is over. Great beer, great food (Pieminster franchise super yum) and friendly staff. They've even got a dart board. Hurrah for the Lord Clyde.
G. C.
Very nice traditional pub, friendly staff, good choice of drinks and one if the best burgers I've had.
Bonus is the outside seating area for when the Sun finally arrives.
P. M.
We’ve had a fantastic evening! Friendly staff, lovely atmosphere and delicious food. Can’t recommend enough!
G. P.
One of the best pubs in London. Authentically traditional as supposed to retro. Great atmosphere great service.

B. T.
Saw this poking out of a side street cycling down Southwark Bridge Road…daring me to come find it. Add it to your list of hidden London gems…a wonderful old school boozer
P. L. R.
The Lord Clyde in Borough is a great pub which I’m pleased to say has re-opened after a gentle refresh early 2020.
If you like a proper local, this is the pub for you. It’s a great place. Two rooms, a small bar, pies, interesting staff, good decor, good choice of ale and craft beer.

On Friday night myself and a few friends had staggered across the Lord Clyde.
On arrival we were welcomed by a pleasant member of staff named Miss Toya.
While ordering our drink we felt good being in the surroundings at that time.
Throughout the rest of the night the other staffs made us felt welcome also.
We had good atmosphere, good music, snacks and a magnificent service.
We will definitely return again to the Lord Clyde
K. F.
Came here for Karoke, what a great night. Quick service across the bar and friendly locals.

S. R.

A. W. (.
Nice old style bar with red curtains and friendly staff. Has a certain feel (sort of like an older gentleman's pub) but not exclusive in anyway.
E. C.
The best pub in Borough for sure. Great staff - especially Mags, Alex and Charlie. Be sure to order The Lord Clyde Bitter when you're there - it's always perfectly conditioned.
p. e.
Best service ever, best I've ever had.
Thank Mags.
The beer was good too, not as good as the service.
fantastic!!!!
M. M.
Always a very warm welcome from all of the staff. Great food and a great selection of drinks too. Nicely distanced given the current climate and lots of good measures in place too. Doesn’t detract from the lovely atmosphere and homely welcome. A true gem with brilliant staff and friendly customers.
J. G.
A truly fantastic opportunity to visit the great Lord Clyde Pub and sincere thanks to the staff who were very helpful and friendly ☺️
D. G.
Top quality pub with great guinness. Lots of coy corners.
J. B.
Can they serve pie AND chips? That photo on website looks epic but website menu only mentions pie, mash and crispy onions. What sort of anti-Northerner message is that sending out? Get some chips on t’menu.
P. B.
Cracking Guinness, which is hard to find in London. It's on my list! Put it on yours
G. M.
Lovely pub.Good selection of beers!!
M. L.
Great place for a Friday beer!
T. W.
I first stumbled across the Lord Clyde while looking for somewhere to watch Arsenal v Bayern Munich in 2015 and it's been one of my favourite pubs ever since. Great beer, great crowd, great staff, rarely too busy but always lively - you really don't get many pubs like this so close to the centre of town.
I've never had the food, but it's Pieminister so presumably excellent. An easy five stars.
M. E.
A proper pub with a magnificent ale selection, great atmosphere and superb staff
G. C.
Traditional local pub. Dark, friendly and not overly crowded on a Sunday afternoon.
D. B.

J. L.
My 30 year local opened today

This is a great pub. Well worth the 5 minutes walk from the main drag around Borough Market. It’s just a classic neighborhood pub with comfy seating, nice beer, friendly efficient staff and a really nice, friendly crowd of people. This is a pub for meeting mates and having a good chat over a drink or two.
M. W.
It's a good pub. Good beer, decent food and only the noise of interesting conversations. Marvellous.

J. F.
Great proper pub. With great simple British food.
A. M.
Great pub with a quintessential Edwardian/Victorian setting. One of the more authentic ones around - doesn't feel cheesy. Really good neighborhood spot tucked away on an angled street

Really nice local pub. As a visitor from the both it was nice to find a small cosy pub to have a few drinks in. Nice selection of ales on offer too. London prices as you'd expect, almost ten quid for two pints.
S. H.
It's a great pub run by great people. Sometimes it gets too busy though and when it does is best to move on as there are plenty of other pubs near by that are almost as good.
G. C.
Friendly pub, very welcoming. No ales when I last visited but normally a fair selection. Definitely worth a visit if you're around The Borough.
S. M.
A great pub with a nice selection of beers in an awesome quiet spot

M. R.
Great little local... We were from out of town and this pub has real history
S. P.
Good small pub that is a local boozer as they used to be. Excellent food, try the ham egg and chips! Good beer and friendly unhurried atmosphere. Popular with locals and nearby offices alike.

J. B.
Cosy old school pub with great ales & atmosphere
M. B.
Great pub. Excellent service from Alex and Mags! Strongly recommended.
R. M.
Great for a local pub. Beer could have a better selection, plays football, food is average but if you want to experience a true, real London Pub (historically) grab a pint here.
c.
Great traditional pub with excellent service and tasty pies. Be sure to say hello to Jenson the pub dog!
N. N.
Good food and beers
E. D.
Great beer. Good company last Friday. Had to catch the last rural train to Kent 🙁
P. B.
Very cosy with good beer. Food is good too and always fresh. Can be bit of a wait sometimes but it is worth it. Frequented by locals so that seals it's approval. Good old South London pub....
D. M.
Absolute gem in the area. Two fireplaces to dry off next to and really lovely staff. You can't imagine a cozier pub.
A. H.
Nice pub, a bit tricky to find if you don't know the area
E. C.
Fantastic pub, this is how London pubs should be, fantastic decor, clean and well maintained with a warm welcome and flagons of great ale. Pubs don't get better than this.
J. W.
This is a proper boozer. Walking in is like walking into what pubs used to be like but better. Lots of original fixtures and good selection of drinks. Staff are friendly and efficient. I didn't eat but saw that they have the excellent Pieminister's pies available. This to me is the perfect pub.
T. B.
This one of the best pubs in the area by miles. Charming, quaint, old school but nice, ales you've not seen often, fires and carpets, satin maroon curtains, indoor and outdoor. It's become my favourite post work jaunt.
N. S.
Quite cosy and friendly little pub, recommend.
D. Q.
Possibly the best boozer in central London. Proper pub atmosphere, good beer, great pies and welcoming staff.
A. W.
Nice little pub good near the heart of london
S. g.
Lovely little local pub in the shortest road in the country. Not a chain pub and owned by the same family for many years this is a local pub just outside central london and the city. Friendly staff, good food and good prices make this one to visit. See how pubs used to be before they all became gastro. Lovely open fire in the winter too
S. G.
Small pub with well priced drinks. A places locals will go
C. B.
Fantastic
Cosy
Old style pub
All it needs is a smoke filled bar and you would be teleported back to when pubs were great places to visit.
But hey, that's progress !
S. B.
Sincerely hope the new management don't touch the interior and I can continue to enjoy stepping back in time here. However have found the beer to be kept quite poorly.
W. W.
Good God this place is perfect. No music, comfortable and just incredibly civilised. Nearly didn't review as wouldn't want everyone to turn up!
R. W.
Nice pub bot far from Borough station, but not much room inside. Good during the summer when it’s warm enough to sit outside.
M. H.
Great authentic pub. Good beer.
S. E.
Brilliant little pub. Classic, clean, friendly, DECENT prices in London, lovely homely food of exceptional quality for the price. It's my favourite pub in ALL central.
R. M.
Its simply a nice pub nothing extraordinary, it's quite cosy
S. K.
Great heritage pub with a nice atmosphere
S. P.
Pretty decent experience. Old school vibe, traditional London pub atmosphere. The food was pretty good but forgettable because I can't seem to remember what I had. The beers were as you would expect. Fairly good outside area but doesn't get as much sun as you'd hope.
D. R.
A great little traditional pub hidden off the main road near Borough.
Outdoor space, traditional furnishings inside. Classic pub look. Friendly staff and pieminster pies on offer. What's not to like.
B. H.
Great pub with lots of traditional features
T. G.
The most fantastic traditional pub. Family run
S. W.
Lovely unfussy pub with traditional decor and outside seating.
A. W.
Authentic old London pub...we all enjoyed ourselves particularly when we first walked to a bar full of Morris dancers!
M. H.
Lovely locals boozer. Very fair prices, great team. Will be visiting again.
M. S.
Nice friendly pub. Lovely staff
M. H.
Classic tucked away 'proper' pub with great food and not-too-expensive drinks considering London prices. A regular for locals (and local workers who commute) with a really friendly atmosphere.
T. P.
Lovely old pub with welcoming service from behind the bar, unfortunately this appears to be a ‘men only’ pub. It’s full of sweary old men with no respect for women. I must if heard the c word about 50 odd times over the space of one drink. We’re a young couple who don’t get easily offended at all, but the atmosphere in here is horrific. Not a place to bring a lady or anyone with a bit of decency. Shame on them.
M. W.
Great pub. Well kept ales. Fairly priced. Carpet. A gem:)
S. E.
Busy place with outside seating, unfortunately staff not enough for the amount of people, May have got cought out with change of weather but will reserve judgment on that, clientele are some what up there on arse though
D. G.
Just visiting, Crowded in the right way (good atmosphere) Nice pub layout in a classic country style in the city setting. Beer in good condition, staff seem efficient. Seems popular judging by number of people. Long walk from southwalk tube but worth the trip
D. H.
A real pub, just far enough away from the Borough Market, to be uneffected by the influence of tourists ( I know, I'm one). They have a selection of 5 real ales and have a good menu of pub grub. Well worth a visit
S. P.
Traditional old style pub with good range of beer including Doom bar. Food is OK and well priced for a lunch time snack. Staff are friendly and the pub has a nice atmosphere. Its off the beaten track so not too busy.
L. H.
Lovely locals pub, tucked away from the main road. Fair prices for drinks and comfy seats. It's the kind of place where the same people have come by for years and the barmaid knows everyone's names but newcomers aren't made to feel unwelcome.
C. P.
Cosy pub, nice beer. Separate vault. Dog friendly, pleasant service. Side note to anyone who pays attention to detail - well polished brass, even in the gents!
w.
This is a rare treat, a pub in the heart of London still serving a large local community, and with all its original features intact and a public bar with a dart board. A proper Boozer
n. h.
great afternoon as usual with mags an co watching the gunners win also as usual
J. K.
An Olde pub just a short walk from Borough tube station .. A nice local with plenty of antiques on display , a delight to behold .. With a great selection of real ale available , what more could a ale drinker want !
S. D.
Nice old style pub in borough with ale and screens to watch the footy, it reminds me of a happier, less cynical time
c. h.
Proper pub. Close to the South Bank but the complete opposite of all the new chain restaurants and bars there.
D. M.
Great pub, everyone welcome, lovely family owned pub.
J. C.
Ham, Egg and Chips...... Exactly as advertised.
A. M.
Great pub. Somehow better in depths of winter.
S. L.
good pub staff were friendly, good covid measures in place including very notice in toilet- see photo
T. W.
What you would probably call a 'proper' pub. Maybe not one for the young and trendy, but nice enough for a pint.
N. H.
Came here for a few drinks and some food having played football in the nearby Park. Several well kept letters. The snacks we had were tasty. Friendly staff as well, in a pleasant old school English pub environment.
C. H.
Went to watch the football. Great atmosphere and well looked after by Toya and the team
J. C.
Pretty reasonable in price nice little seating Rea outside. Close Borough Station
A. R.
Lovely traditional london boozer. Reasonably priced beer and decent folks.
G. C.
Marvellous pub. Had a brilliant lunchtime drink there. Proper pub.
P. G. M.
Lovely London pub not yet over commercialized.
S. L.
Great family run pub with good selection of ales
R. C.
A lovely traditional pub interior with a sports screen, busy with customers, only problem first poured cask beers tasted like vinegar, they were replaced but it is not good to keep beers on too long.
P. D.
Unspoilt and unpretentious pub with reasonable prices be an outside area.
c. P.
A great find good priced beer relaxed atmosphere
M. P.
Great old-style boozer. Lovely people, good ales. What more is important in a pub?
D. N.
Love this boozer. Step back into time. If you are from out of town it’s a must experience. Don’t make em like this anymore. Ornate signs, a typographers dream! Local clientele, local agency trust fund kids, it has it all. Good selection of beverages. Ok. That’s all for now. Cheerio chaps!
a. M.

D. W.
great traditional family run london pub
D. H.
Decent boozer, will usually choose this one over all the pubs in the neighbourhood when I'm in the area.
T. G.
My favourite pub in London. Been using it since 1972 when I worked close by with GRE. Pub has been in the same family for 50 years. Grandad, father and now son.
Lovely food, good choice of beers and lovely 'real' pub atmosphere. Highly recommended.

If you want a proper old London pub,
Then this is one of a dying breed
Nothing at all fancy, never eaten here so can't comment on that.
But whenever I am home in London, always drop in for a few pints,
Try the Guinness extra cold.
J. W.
Standard pub with some good Ales, food is ok for a quick lunch
d. s.
Nice pub tucked away in SE1. Friendly staff and customers, in addition, the beers are priced okay for the location:-)
J. G.
A decent venue, and slightly off the beaten track so not as crowded as others pubs in the area.
T. P.
My local, one of the few family owned pubs left and the best boozer in London!
R. R.
great pub no dark ale when I visited but the place is great
L. S.
Simply the best. Perfect staff and great traditional pub.

Brilliant old school boozer

One of London's gems. Great atmospheric pub that's as perfect in the summer as it is in the winter. Always friendly helpful staff. Overall top pub
d.
Perfect pub. And I mean pub as in pub like they used to be.
T. D.
Watched the England game, cheap and they brought out free chips. Wings, sausage pieces and a range of sandwiches for everyone. Unexpected find! Lovely owners (and had a good number of tvs for the footy)
N. H.
Great interior design, outdoor seating, homemade food ( best scotch egg so far ), fantastic atmosphere , ... And not too busy ( except friday evening )
B. V.

T. R.
Nice local boozer, warm and welcoming in winter, plenty of space outside for summer.

Every Friday lunch time without fail. The sausage sandwich and chips is tip top. Best traditional pub I've been to in London .
T. H.
Old school buzzer, friendly staff, very atmospheric around Christmas time, knocked a star off though as the beer wasn't quite right
P. M.
Cracking pub. Absolute beauty! Real cask ale in a great cozy space
R. G.
Big lunch portions, but only go if you're in the mood for heavy English fare. That said, there were a few surprising salad options...
S. F.
Lovely pub to grab a pint

Found this piece of jewelry by accident while visiting London during vacation. A real English pub full of local folks, and the warmest environment to have a drink after a long day.
D. T.
Proper boozer, lovely lads having a bevvy. Great staff. Brilliant
I. E.
Excellent family run pub
P. W.
no real social distancing outside the pub and no masks except for staff but lots of atmosphere
T. M.
A short walk from the Tate Modern but worth seeking out. Although it was very busy, the service was great and the pork and apple pie was one of the best pies I've ever eaten.
C.
Great old school pub.

Great proper pub. Like they should be
W. G.
Disappointed that they had no food available, at around 3pm. Another would-be customer entered and asked if food was available. He left immediately when told there was none. Very poor.

A froendly pub in Southwark with two bars and fantastic original Truman, Hanbury & Buxton facade, ably run by landlady Mary. A reasonable choice of beers.

Best pub in the area by far
S. L.
If there is a genuine local London pub that deserves 6 stars this is the one! Hidden in a back street in the heart of Borough, it is well worth a visit. It has a beaufiful Edwardian interior, a lovely fire in the winter, and an outside area that is perfect to spend the long summer evenings. Great bar staff (Mary deserves a special mention) and friendly locals. Good beer and old fashioned pub grub. it has been in the same family for three generations. Love it, love it, love it!!!
K.
Lovely boozer and some proper characters in there. Quality staff, always good on covid too.
N. S.
Great pub, great beer, great staff.
J. N.
A beautifully presented classic English pub, with saloon and snug bar. Serving both hand pulled and draught beers, which are always well looked after, it's easy to see why this is a CAMRA favourite for the area!
A. B.
Lovely trad boozer, great ales. Slightly dubious amount of football on the TV but otherwise lovely.
D. P.

Nice experience for a chit-chat with friends. Traditional English food, like Cumberland sausages and mash and pie, together with a small selection of nice beers. If you're not into soccer, be aware that the place might get noisy.
D. C.
Lovely local pub

We discovered this Edwardian gem, at the heart of the Dickens famed Little Dorrit area of Borough. A thoroughly enjoyable place to visit. The bar is warm and seating very comfortable, staff and facilities are just great. We look forward to visiting again.

Great memories of this lovely little proper London pub. I was born in the back bedroom of the Council flats, Patterson House in 1955. Our living room and balcony overlooked the pub. I remember my dad used to go down there on a Sat night and bring myself and my brother crisps and lemonade home. He also used to go on a Sunday lunchtime and bring home our tea of shrimps and winkles which we had with salad and bread and butter. Went back just a few years ago, and its still the same! Excellent! Lovely old London pub, don't ever change eh!

recently started coming to the clyde every Wednesday evening, great to see a pub with so many locals. However, the selection of real ale is a bit dated. One of a kind staff, Mary and Charlie are... remarkable eccentrics! Would reco

I have known this pub for a good number of years and it had always been run by very efficient publicans the first being Dennis Fitzpatrick then by his son Michael Fitzpatrick and the last I heard Michaels son and his wife took over, this is a true English pub in every sense of the world nothing super fancy just good service, beer and food. I now live in Australia but whenever I am in London I always make the point of having a beer and lunch at The Lord Clyde.
