Reviews of Lord Palmerston
S. G.
The holidays were a bit strange for us this year as for many but it was so nice to treat ourselves to a gorgeous meal here on Christmas Day. The staff were so friendly and there was a really warm atmosphere among the clientele. For me, the star of the show was the duck. Absolutely gorgeous. Our other main the halibut was delicious too but could have done with crispier skin. Overall, we really enjoyed our food. I'll happily come back to scoff more of it 😋
E. C.
Absolutely fantastic pub! We had our sons christening, and my birthday at the Palmerston. The staff are friendly and accommodating, Nicola was superb, she and her colleagues looked after us all throughout - we will be back! (for my mums 70th)
K. D.
Had an amazing pork belly roast at the weekend, the crackling was the best I've had. Also highly recommended the beef cheek croquettes. 👌
R. D.
This is a beautifully decorated pub, with not one but two open fireplaces and a nice private back garden / courtyard with seating for smokers. The triple cooked chips are fantastic and the staff welcoming and friendly. Comfortable and cosy - recommended!
D. W.
Had a lovely night in the beer garden (Thurs evening). Pub was nice and busy. Drinks selection good. App easy to use. Staff friendly. Booked a table which I recommend because it was busy. Good covid measures in place. Its a great local pub with nice outside spaces. Door a teeny bit hard to get in and toilets upstairs being the only downside but they aren't deal breakers.
N. H.
I didn’t like my roast lamb - it was chewy, the roast potatoes were not crispy on the outside, the veg was not nice. However, the Yorkshire pudding was lovely. The staff were lovely and did well to attend to a large party that included young children. My friends seemed to like their meals.
A. K.
Lovely pub, good range of drinks and great food, should have been busier than it was!
S. V.
Came here to cool off in the shade after a long walk on the heath, the staff were very friendly and attentive, a friend and I both went for the burger, which was really nice and needed! All in all a really nice pub, fantastic loos, and the interior decor was really suave.
A. S.
Love this pub soooo much we used it for our wedding after-party. The staff went above and beyond and their food is amazing! Scotch eggs... hands down best in London
A. R.
Cozy! Beautiful Young's pub with a hidden gem: their beautiful secret garden.
The chef is brilliant! Great food, plated like a proper high end restaurant.
F. H.
Nice gastropub. Good food. The roast was ok, a bit overated for the price point. Meat portions a bit stingy. The Ox cheek was a winner, big Yorkshire puds. The desserts are better than the roast. Service felt a bit awkward. Would I go again. Yes sure.
A. H.
Had such a lovely eve here, great food and good wine selection. Vito was super friendly and also knew all about the red wines!
N. R.
Went here on Fri 15th Oct. Nice atmosphere and decor, very homely. Only issue was that there was a young large lady, with short hair and black glasses. She was belittling the children she assists at Torriano Primary School. I heard her saying that a lot of children there are horrible natured, nasty kids as she put it. People like her should not work with children. Yes there are children that are more behaved than others but they all have their personal issues and also may have special needs. Shame on you lady!
J. M.
Lovely boozer, great outside area. Good selection of beers and rosé. Nice area out back. Menu looks dece, although didn't try. If its cold outside ask for a hotwater-bottle 👌
J.
A nice pub in a residential area not far from the bustle of Tufnell Park. Nicely decorated, and has an open fire. Drinks a little expensive in comparison to other places in the area, but friendly staff and a great outside area (though we couldn't get the heaters to work!). Dogs welcome and humans (including small ones) are tolerated!
A. L.
We had a great time here and the atmosphere was lovely. The food was well cooked and while there was a problem with my plate it was fixed very quickly.
D. B.
Great bar, little quite on visiting however good food and decent beer, can't argue with that 😊
O. Y.
Great space with a nice Sunday roast. We had the veg wellington, fish cakes and smoked salmon and they were all perfectly executed. Worth a visit if you’re en route to Hampsted Heath.
J. C.
Absolutely the best Sunday roast I've ever had. The desserts are amazing too. My only complaint wound be the the side order of cauliflower cheese wasn't really cheesy.. but then I'm a glutton anyway . Beautiful food and great service.
A. V.
We've come few times in Lord Palmerston however the last time it was quite a disappointing experience. All of our food was over cooked, duck breast, burgers and chicken. Our sides were also cold.
We had 3 waitresses however one of them was quite unpleasant, maybe it was the language barrier but she acted that brining a bottle of water to our table was a real chore.
Shame because we love going to Lord Palmerston so hopefully this was a one off.
K.
Nice Youngs chain pub with good food menu and outside seating options. Service is friendly enough, as ever, dependent on who's tending bar at the time. Nice and quiet for an afternoon pint with a decent soundtrack on in the background too 🙏
c. g.
Lovely staff, Kitty was ultra accommodating and lovely, they moved us about a few times so we could stay longer and enjoy our evening, so thanks Kitty and staff!
Food was decent - atmosphere was lovely, especially the upstairs garden! gorgeous <3
L. J.
Had a terrific time at the Lord Palmerston! My first time there and I'll definetely be coming back. The food was fantastic, but the main reason I wanted to leave review was the service! OUTSTANDING. Especially during these difficult Covid times, all the staff especially Duran were accomodating, friendly, attentive and efficient, making sure we were comfortable with everything from where we sat, to our meals and drinks being served, all timely and brought with a smile! I don't usually write restaurant/ pub reviews but I ad to make an exception due to the exceptionally profession way Duran and the Lord Palmerston treated us.
Thank you so much and please keep up the gtreat work there- I'll be letting my friends know what a quality place this is!
Cheers
LA
R. K.
Using private function room for birthday party for a 1 year old. Staff were brilliant.
S. N. T. A.
Good pub. Only negative was a lack of attentiveness to allergens (gluten free). Visited on a Sunday and staff didn’t seem interested in accommodating me.
H. S.
I have just this picture but everything was delicious, pure pub food. easily the best hanger-onglet steak I've had! 👌🏼
R. M.
Cosy pub, has an outside sitting area, polite stuff, would come again
I. B.
The Lord Palmerston hosted our friends baby shower. It was such a special occasion at a great venue. All the staff were lovely especially Daniella.
I. L.
Simple: perfect, great food, great environment for friends and family time...
A. T.
Love this pub! Recently done up, great atmosphere, lots of space and really friendly staff.
D. U.
Lovely characterful building, pleasant shady beer garden. Food pricey for what it is.
R. E.
We had a lovely roast beef Sunday lunch.
c. g.
Pretty good roast but service was so slow.
C. D.
Visited for the first time the other day and was recommended the plant burger by the lovely waitress Kitty, was the best vegan burger i've had in a long time, really great service too and look forward to coming back
T. K.
They have decent burgers, the staff were exceptionally pleasant and the premises were in very good working order and of quality. Unfortunately we were served some quite poor sourdough with olive oil (the oil tasted like peanut shells) and we also had some very obviously reheated potatoes for the sausage and mash. I understand that certain foods need to be cooked and kept due to time limitations but ours were there just a little too long. The selection of beer is OK, not great but not horrendous.
M. |. T. S.
Recently visited the Lord Palmerston pub for a few beers, really nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Remember a particular staff member Emily who checked with our table to see if we’d like to have something to eat and went out of her way to offer us recommendations. We didn’t eat as had dinner plans at home, however plan to come back in the new year.
R. L.
Just off Dartmouth Road, and on the way to Hampstead Heath, you'll find the Lord Palmerston unassumingly waiting for you. The front and rear gardens are both lovely little suntraps, perfect for a pint or two on a sunny day. The food it classic pub fair complimented with some modern options. They cater to both vegan and veggitarians as well. We had the cheese burger this time around and Fabrio, the head chef didn't disappoint. Perfectly cooked! Great staff, cold drinks and delicious food. Make sure to pop in when you get a chance.
A.
Well presented pub, food looked excellent, usual upmarket beer range beavertown, etc... Good place to watch the rugby. Drinks prices above average for the area, but it's very nice in there. Crowd at the time... there was a lot of Ralph Lauren and other designer shirts, jean's and shoes. Not my style but it may be yours!
T. H.
The best pub food I have had in London! I will return very soon! My compliments to the chef !
T. J.
Food was tasty and service friendly and quick. My only criticism was that the cod goujons were full of bones, which is lethal in a sandwich!
P. J.
Very friendly and helpful staff, dog friendly too and they provide a bowl of water. They have a small selection of board games but I did not try them. Have a nice private area at the back. Some of the seats were a bit uncomfortable.
M. E.
Beautifully decorated with an excellent range of food and drinks. The Fish cake is absolutely delicious. The team are warm and welcoming, what's more they are dog friendly. Will be back once I'm in the area again.
R. M.
Cosy pub with great selection of drinks and a good menu. It’s a great place to meet as a large group if you reserve in advance. We organise our Christmas lunch for 10 people here every year. They serve traditional British pub food with some of the more traditional dishes probably tastier than others. I had a gamy pie which was good, not great but my friends really enjoined their choices. It’s always a good spot to meet, and nobody rushes you to finish your food to vacate tables.
H. M.
Good beer and food. But the pain of having to do everything through the useless Young’s app puts me off. App didn’t even have the full menu… waste of time.
J. “. B.
First off, the food is absolutely delicious and fairly reasonably priced for the area. The service is inattentive and overly casual.
The second time I visited The Lord Palmerston for dinner we arrived and ordered drinks. Once the drinks arrived we had to call someone over to let them know we were ready to order. We ordered bread which took an age to arrive. Our main courses were similarly delayed, by the time we were ready to order desert we had been there for two hours.
When we asked for the bill from the manager he got distracted when walking away from our table, sitting down with some other diners. Nothing resembling a bill came for a further 20 minutes. We stood up to leave, hoping that this would prompt some action, the manager raced over and helped one of the ladies in our party on with her coat! We then stood at the empty bar, waiting to pay and they seemed surprised when we said that was what we were waiting for.
It's a roller-coaster experience; the food takes ages, but it's worth it, getting anyone to take an order for food or drinks is a chore, but there is the possibility that you could leave without paying and they'd help you on with your coat.
I'll leave it up to you to decide if it's worth it or not really, I'm not sure I'm going back.
M. R.
I've just edited this review as the pub is now under new management. I've only been in once so far so I don't have a strong opinion about the place yet, I'm just giving 4 stars to try not to have too much affect on the overall rating. It re-opened on the 9th Nov 2017 I believe so any reviews prior to that should be ignored. My initial sense is that it's being run in a much more professional manner now. They've definitely restored the appearance and ambiance of the place, it's much better. The beer selection is pretty standard but decent and during my brief interactions with the staff they seem friendly and professional. It doesn't have the character or drink selection of the Dartmouth Arms just round the corner.
J. w.
Nice friendly place for food and a quite drink
I. H.
Excellent kitchen, lovely staff, particularly Kitty who made sure we were well looked after for the afternoon.
C. J.
Such a beautiful pub venue and great staff especially Kitty. Kitty greeted me with such love and happiness will definitely be coming back as soon as the restrictions calm down.
Kind regards, Chirag Jasud
A. B.
Cosy comfy pub a short walk from Tufnell Park station. Food was fresh and delicious as was my pint of Young's Original! If the sun is shining make sure you check out the secret garden. Love this place!
L. S.
I'm surprised that this pub is not far busier. Good Sunday roast, friendly staff and a great outdoor section. It's in a great location near Tufnell Park tube station too. Could do with an
improved wine list and better beers on tap. Recommended.
D. K.
Great pub, very frendly staff. Really nice food, bar well stocked good selection of beers and the wine list is great. I will be back
D. T.
Wonderful local pub. Comfortable, with a warm fire in winter and good food.
In spite of its popularity, I've never seen it be rowdy. Staff are friendly and there's usually a good selection of guest ales. The food (especially the burger!) is good, though a little rich to be called "comfort food". Be sure to book for Sunday lunch as it fills up fast.
Not the cheapest pub in Tufnell Park, but one of the best.
S. A.
Very, very nice pub, with lovely decoration and good selection of seating areas.
It has quite a soothing atmosphere, great for a nice conversation over some beers/wine and nibbles.
J. W.
Beautiful old Victorian pub with several rooms, the first features an open fireplace which is very welcome in the winter and the street terrace is a suntrap in the summer. A mix of straight up dining and squashy armchairs and a great range of bar snacks and full dinners are served. Fairly expensive but service is great, very family and dog friendly, and there is a very good quiz.
M. C.
A lovely pub with great atmosphere, stellar service and one of the best Sunday roasts around. The menu was quite varied without being too large, the food at our table was excellent and everything we saw going to other tables looked positively scrumptious as well.
R. N.
Straight off the bat, service was the best I've had in the recent past. As a traveller, I needed help choosing food. The gentleman waiting on the table helped me choose the dish and beers and everyone was great.
It helped that the food was spot on with taste. Will definitely go back there!
A. W.
Excellent service. Had the Lords Room all to ourselves and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Food was tasty (though vegan option a bit bland). Enjoyed hosting our birthday meal there.
N. E.
Here for a family function. Mark and the crew were absolutely wonderful. I can't fault the staff or the pub. A big thank you for taking care of us at such a difficult time
S. M.
Stopped off in here few months back - must have been one of the hottest days since records began, never been before but the staff were great, I must have smashed about 10 pints, it was so hot you just had to. The staff didn't even seem to mind that I took my shirt off. I was steaming, to be fair though.
D.
Very pleasant staff. Lovely decor & felt relaxed
R. P.
Great gastro pub, good well kept beers nice food. Small but perfectly formed place to eat with friends.
L.
We visited here today as a family. The service was exceptionally good, with particular attention being paid to everybody's wishes.. As a large group, we often feel cramped but this was not the case today. The food was superb, cooked to perfection. This is not a cheap venue to eat but very favours well with comparable places I've eaten in.
H. M.
Best nut roast in the area, lovely courtyard in the sunshine. Things to get 5 stars: better wine list and stronger management getting behind promotion to locals delivering amazing, consistent service - it's not anywhere near as busy as it deserves it's a lovely spot with a great chef
N. H.
Nice pub with excellent range of beers inc Camden Pale Ale & Hells Lager. They also serve a wonderful range of food (+ formal table service dining at the back), like the porchetta with bubble & squeak as well as their amazing brownies.
C. C.
Good did and beer, but very shaky service. 4 of us ordered venison and we were served beef. The waiter apologised for the mistake and we had a free drink each, but it's still unprofessional to mess up the orders like this.
D. S.
Had a great night in the beer garden. Thanks to Kitty who bought us hot water bottles when we got cold late in the evening!!
D. B.
This is our local pub and I love it! The food/garden/pub itself are great and the staff are so friendly. Would recommend to anyone in the area.
L. E.
A very pleasant pub, great food if of course Highgate / Hampstead prices.
One criticism is I have no idea why they think it good to put crystals of salt onto the fish? Even I who would probably sprinkle some on do not want great lumps sitting in the batter! I have no idea how people who wouldn't want any salt or have a requirement to cut down on salt for medical reasons would view it.
Get rid of the attitude you know better than your customers what condiments they want on their food for a better rating.
B. O.
Average meal last night. Had table in back garden which wasn't very well lit for eating dinner; service patchy/slow; fish and chips only ok. Others liked their Thai curry. Wouldn't hurry back.
N. V.
Delicious Sunday roast! And nice atmosphere. A small complaint - I was told a drink was juice and it turned out to be a bottled fizzy drink from juice concentrate, other than that staff was helpful
P. O.
This is a great place, I use it as my local as the staff are always welcoming and polite plus they always make my dog Sidney an English bull terrier very welcome with treats and a water bowl available, I would recommend this pub for anyone to try as it's a real gem to the area
J. S.
Great pub, ok vibe, shame how often this pub swaps hands. I think it was alot better when the pub doctor had control as they create a great atmosphere and pick great staff among their pubs. Still good for drink before a show or concert down at the Boston but not for food, food is not great.
T. R.
It was all very nice, especially the vegan cake and the halloumi fries.
D. B.
Classy tavern located a short walk up
Dartmouth Hill Road from Tufnell Park. Very well maintained light wooden interior decor with some old style touches.
While this place looks small from the outside it is surprisingly large inside with a lot of room for customers and an appealing looking smoking garden to the back.
A. S.
I was saddened by my visit to the Lord P. It has always had airs and graces but I feel this is getting just a little tired now. I found the staff to be a difficult to engage with, aloof might describe them well, it feels like there is culture to which they all subscribe, except Ms Bluehair who was wonderfully kind and charming, do they not enjoy working there? A smile wouldn't hurt - obviously a fish rots from the head down. too cool for school, lost its charm. Shame really considering the amount we spent on food and drink bringing our party there.
N. N.
Lovely place with and open fire. Nice Sunday roast and friendly people. We had a very nice time and food. We had our dog with us.
M. C.
Very friendly staff and good service. Beautiful secrete garden and the food was very good. Dog friendly. Will definitely go back.
z. S.
Best service! Best food !
Kid and dog friendly
Flavour and texture of stake is divine.
Highly recommended if you enjoy quality.
Will be dining there again.
J. M.
Great food and such beautiful décor – it's hard to imagine how they're going to improve it whilst they shut for renovation until the 2nd April. When it opens up again sign up for a free Geronimo Inns membership card and you'll get free snacks at the bar with every round. #Irishtini
S. “. b. B.
Lovely space, friendly staff. My fig tart wasn't amazing but my husband's sticky toffee pudding was delicious.
J. C.
Great pub with incredible food. One of the best fish and chips I've ever had. Also, surprisingly good ice cream!
A. O.
Excellent pub food, great service!
H. H.
👌
M. N.
Dog-friendly pub with cinema club! Rustic but comfortable interior serves this understated pub well, and it has a nice little terrace to boot!
J. C.
Great food and kind, considerate staff = Bonus!!!
M. T.
We enjoyed a quiet pint here on a Sunday afternoon. They also do food! It was comfortable and homely.
C. G.
I love pubs - such a bubbly atmosphere - but flee the heart of London. Too touristic, too commercial. I prefer jumping on a tube and find a quieter neighbourhood, listen to the locals who keep its memory alive, find a place with character. The Lord Palmerston is one of those: a cosy, welcoming gastropub, a natural joie de vivre. If i lived nearby, this probably would be my extended living room. A good book, a flass of wine or a craft beer, fire in the chimne: irresistible, right? It is the perfect transition coming back from work, the short pause that allows you to leave the files behind, get your zen feeling back.
M. A. G.
Great, love the easy going ambiance.
A. T.
Indifferent staff.. more interested in other staff than customers... Second time I've had to return the IPA.. Not kept well.. Nice interior could be so much better...
E. P.
Lovely pub and excellent roast! I have been looking for the best roast in North London and this is definitely in my top 3!
H. L.
Great Sunday roast. lovely staff and music. also reasonable price for foods and drinks. happy to spend few hours here on Sunday.

w. s.
Nice pub. Good food. Excellent scotch eggs
S. T.
Best local pub grub and excellent service

A lovely pub and eating place.
Sadly staff are more interested in chatting together than welcoming customers
A. D.

Cute pub, dog friendly, great food. Worth a visit for a Sunday roast.
S. B.
, Had my first Sunday roast here wasn't too bad 7/10 but the environment was solid
M. M.
Not as consistent or good as past visits. Decor has gotten less comfortable and they were out of many things on the menu.
T. P.
Amazing food at a reasonable price. I had the beer battered cod and chips and it was delicious.
M. C.
Moni and the team are fabulous easy going atmosphere and a fantastic secret garden
I. M.
