Reviews of Philomena's Irish Sports Bar & Kitchen
B.
Fine for a lively pub and to shout with friendly strangers. Not a quite relaxing pub. Just as well I wasn't in a quiet mood.
R. E.
A standard bar, with reasonably priced drinks.
Absolutely rammed on a weekend, so if you're into rubbing elbows with randoms then you'll probably enjoy this place!
Some kid challenged me to an arm wrestle while I was there, which was great! Not sure losing had the effect the he expected on the girls back at his table.
E. C.
Mixed opinions about this place. I have gone several times, some of them really spurred me to go back to that place whilst other times I really wanted to leave as soon as possible. Really good place if you want to watch a game with friends and if you love the noise and the English fanbase in any sport, less of a good place if you're looking for a British traditional pub (not sports). Oh yeah, and someone stole my jacket there but that is not their fault, at least in my opinion.
G. H.
I went to this pub, early to meet someone. The staff were very helpful and they looked after me all day. Great pub. Good food and I enjoyed my day. Great Queen Street, London is a great place to stay and enjoy. Greg Hall London Rank Met Almoner.
B. H.
Went there for Ireland v Wales six nations game. Busy when we got there but was thronged by kick off. This proved to be no problem though as the staff were superb and constantly patrolled the bar looking for people whose drinks were low and served them to where they were standing.
F. E.
Was pretty good here ! Lots of TVs to watcg the footy on and the guys who worked here were nice, tall italian man was nice to me and my mates. A few weeks ago this was now. But yeah , cool, would go back with my mates
N. B.
We stopped for a drink after the theatre, so no in-depth review because we simply stayed by the door for 15 minutes. Bar service was excellent, rapid and polite
V. D.
Had a number of televisions dotted about and was open till midnight which was the main reason we popped in. A lot of pubs in the area shut at 11.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Did not rush people out the door when the lights went up. Plenty of seating in the place. Mixed crowd. Relaxed atmosphere.
L. P.
I love this pub. It’s a great place to watch the football. Multiple screens to watch more than one match. The staff are amazing and very friendly.
A.
Love the vibe and the music, the guys behind the bar are absolutely fantastic. The Italian girl with dark curly hair is an absolute star! Nice fresh Guinness and great vibes. Definetly recommended!
T. G.
Very nice friendly place , sat outside with a nice cold drink after a long day 🥂
W. B.
Nice pub, we went for a drink with friends and met interesting people. Watched the football game together a laughed. Great experience and food looked ok. Staff very prompt and friendly
J. U.
Went for a quiet pint on a Wed night to catch up with 2 old friends. Guinness was on the money as usual, though I did find the music volume annoyingly loud. I mean you go to a pub like this to chat,..not to bust moves!
G. A.
Very elegant and accessible restaurant. They provide generous portions and for reasonable rates. We liked the meals a lot and the staff members were super attentive and chatty. Will definitely recommend this place.
J. B.
Nice pint, nothing special. 2 of us eating staff taking plates and cutlery away when I finished but my partner was still eating, did the same with drinks, all a bit rushed.
J. H.
Yanks, you need to order your food at the bar.
First English pub coming from Los Angeles.
Talk about Proper Fish and Chips! Loved the food. Loved the beer. Had a great time.
Service was friendly, food came out perfect. Locals were very friendly.
Absolutely loved my dinner here.
D. J.
Superb ambience and very personal service. The food was crisp and delicious. Will absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone. Convenient prices and large meals. Good job.
s. z.
Great sports bar/pub. Tasty beers, lots of TV screens everywhere and plenty of seats, so great for groups.
The service was friendly and quick.
D. G.
Very nice little bar, came here after a show. Staff were very welcoming and served our drinks to the table, only note was that the beer tasted bottom of the barrel. Not their fault though, as I was very British and stuck through it.
P. S.
I’ve been in this pub a few times and it’s a great sports bar
B. L.
The service here has always been super friendly. You do not have to wait to be served as they are one of the bars that know you're there! While still unable to drink inside, they are one of the lucky pubs to have an area outside where you can drink and eat. The food is very good, and you get served quickly. The prices for the food and drink are also very reasonable. Hope to see you down there one day!
D. T.
A lovely hospitable pub, great for watching the football or Rugby, along with many other sports no doubt. Great beer and great service.
R. H.
Great place to watch sport, good choice of drinks and great food. Highly recommended
I. K.
Always visit this place when I visit London. Proper old school rustic Irish bar. Love it 😉
F. M.
Nice palce, we have got table service what was nice and make me think to return when next time visiting city
D. D. (. H. C.
Great bar service and a good place to have a late night drink in town with friend's.
A. H. (.
Brilliant food, a nice range of beers to choose from. The staff are very friendly and helpful and also offer great table service!
b.
This place is awesome.
But don't go there.
Im keeping this place to myself.
M. G.
Popular bar and very polite bar staff. Never ate here so cannot comment.
N. B.
I regularly stop purchasing some food in this place. I enjoy the speedy customer service and well prepared dishes. Great work.
F. o.
Popped in on my way to the theatre and was blown away by the super friendly staff..Will definitely return
J. D.
Very friendly staff, nice atmosphere and great beers.
P. S.
Standard pub, nothing too bad, nothing too good.
They have nice Christmas decorations (a huge Christmas tree hanged on the exterior of the building, for example).
A. B.
Always a good meeting place, great pub brunch and a pint
C. O.
Cosy Irish pub with an authentic vine. many irish londoners are here for matches of gaelic football, rugby, footbal and all other sports. Prices are competitive and the bathrooms are spacious and clean. They have the typical pub kitchen, so you can grab some chips and burgers whilst downing ypur pints, laddy.
T. W.
It's at pub. It serves decent beer in central London. Perfect.
A. W.
Proper pub , brilliant for after show drinks. Guinness as it should be!
S. P.
Wonderful pub in a good location. Brilliant staff, the females working had great service and were attentive. The food is great, starters are tasty and the fish and chips are a wonderfully large portion. Pints are always good with a great selection. Think you can also get swift table service here to. Will definitely come back!
B. R. W.
No better or worse than you'd expect. Quite narrow inside, but a good location with plenty of space outside.
E. D.
Great staff, always a friendly welcome. Great selection of beers, and a recent spruce up has the place looking good :)
K. C.
Lovely atmosphere decent hosts, amazing beer and quality rum
S. P. O. D.
We were hired to photograph an event at Philomena's Irish Bar & Kitchen - really loved the atmosphere. Friendly staff, amazing food and drinks. Recommend this one!
D. M.
Went it on the Friday night..young lad behind the bar was so friendly and remembered us Saturday when he got us a seat for the England v Ukraine game..excellent service and Chris on the door..what a gentleman 👌😎
D. G.
Loved watching the gaelic football. Bar staff are great and professional just as in Ireland
S. D.
Good little bar with plenty of Atmosphere 👍
S. R.
Nice little pub with good service. The beer selection was good.
A. S.
Good pint of Guinness, food is OK but not the best. Atmosphere during big matches is unbelievable and service was quick.
L. G.
Good pub with nice food and lovely staff
C. G. D.
Great Guinness and nice staff but dispiriting when one of them calls you Madam as if you are in a shoe shop and is then reluctant to let you sit at an ordinary table rather than perch on a stool at a tall one (when the place is half empty). But the Guinness is worth it.
C. T.
Great pub, great pint of stout and tasty piece of gammon. Only place in the city to enjoy Irish games
R. S.
We had a group of 6 turn up. They gave us a great table but told us it was booked untill 6pm so got to move after. Which was fine untill it was 5:30 and they asked us to leave/move. They gave us another table which was suitible. Service was great, always checking if you're ok. Only problem was the bill. We were charged for 29 Jameson shots when we clearly didn't have 29 so not sure where they got his figure from. Really let the night down as I believe they overcharged us. Think everyone in the end tried to fight the bill but gave up as they were persistent. We had probably 12-15 shots at most. Probably won't go to this place again. Staff were friendly, food was average.
M. P.
Went in mid week and was lucky it was quite quiet. Foot was quick and a good standard. Reasonable range of drinks. Value for money especially as it is near theatre land was great. Staff even came over and were happy to provide a drinks table service. Will visit again.
J. E. (.
Great atmosphere & a superb pint of Guinness.
g. j.
Best fishcakes I've ever had! Light, crispy , tasty. Quick service despite being busy. Good price for this part of London. Switched over sports especially. Don't be put off with the crowd outside, plenty of free tables inside.
N. S.
Friendly welcoming staff
Standard fair food
g. t.
What's makes this place Irish? Who knows. Irish steak, soda bread, Guinness on tap? Does it matters?
S. s.
Friendly pub just outside Covent Garden with a good choice of Gins
S. R.
Nice little pub with good service. The beer selection was good.
D. M.
Great service and lovely atmosphere!
M. A.
Cool place in Covent garden
M. C.
Good choice of drinks, lovely attentive staff.
J. E. (.
Great atmosphere & a superb pint of Guinness.
b.
Good atmosphere and they show the Celtic game.
P. S.
Nice bar and selection of beers
M. S.
Fab spot, great Distanced service, and you can't beat the view!!!
S. F.
Great place for Guinness drinkers, the beer is always good. The staff are efficient. It's one of the few places I know in London where the staff will come to you and ask if you want a refill and then fetch it from the bar.
It's very traditional Irish theme pub décor and always has a nice atmosphere.
M. H.
I take my family to this great spot quite a bit! This is the best place to to have a good dinner. I go there many times. The cooking is great, the workers are helpful and the prices are affordable. I like being in this restaurant over a rich dinner.
R. B.
Great pub, good atmosphere, good food
S. H.
Great for watching the football. I didn't have any food, but it looked and smelt great! Quite small so did get a bit over crowded, but that did add to the atmosphere. Generally, it's a great place to meet your friends, service is quick and friendly. Check it out!
A. S.
Good Irish breakfast, the service was even better. Nice atmosphere.
M. J.
WOW. Just finished eating their take away chicken burger and chips. Amazing. Burger was massive. Can not complain. Drank here pre lockdown and always enjoyed too. If in area, get the take out. Half price mon/tue
O. W.
Great pub, reliable for amazing service
M. M.
Very friendly place with a nice atmosphere, specially if you are a sports fan. They also sell guest beers – they keep on changing from time to time and the selection is usually good. Average price is £5 for a pint. The down side is that there are not many places to sit during the matches, but I do recommend going to this pub.
G. W.
A really good pub with great staff👍🏻
Y. I.
Awesome food for a pub and a great selection of beer. Also the staff is very friendly. The best bar to watch NFL, at lest when the games are in London. (Haven't been there when they were not)
S. G.
It's ok. Not really a sports bar.
S. A.
Great atmosphere during Liverpool's 2018 champion's league semi-final match. Filled with an enthusiastic crowd. Staff were essential to being able to watch the match uninterrupted as drinks could be ordered and delivered directly to the table.
C. F.
It was our first visit this evening and I was meeting some friends from Ireland. From the moment I arrived I was treated with real kindness. Every member of staff, including a girl who was working her first ever day, were efficient and charming.
We had a marvellous time.
Thank you for everything.
Colum Fitzgerald
O. S.
Great wee pub. Plays alot of sport on tv. Usually a good atmosphere, worth getting early to get a seat with a decent view.
Food is quality, Guinness isnt the best but drinkable all the same.
They do table service too which is helpful for when its packed. Will definitely be returning
b.
Good atmosphere and they show the Celtic game.
J. B.
Wonderful for a drink after work. The bar staff come to your table too which is rare for a pub in London.
Can get busy around 5 o'clock, but still a great place for an after work pint.
N. F.
Fantastic staff, great food, excellent atmosphere
L. C.
Stopped over at this venue to check out a football match. A typical sports bar that is loud and with visitors coming to a watch a game. It has multiple TV screens though the entrance is quite compact, so it can become very tight for space very quickly.
The toilet facilities are upstairs and are in good shape. The prices are average for London and service seems reasonable. There seemed to be various order delays for other customers, but I never had an issue.
With big crowds expected for popular games, the staff routinely pester you to order more drinks. This becomes tiresome after a while and distracting. You do get a table service, but they often block the view of the screens. I understand they don't want you just watching sport for free, but a balance needs to be met.
The decor is quite dated and it could do with an update. However, this is very much a simple sports bar for watching a game.
K. H.
Great, went thimking"12" screens showing simultaneous sports but to my dismay every screen on cricket, which I wanted to see as well as nrl(manly v tigers),some people can be inflexible, surely you have more than one feed, but a great venue with lovely staff nonetheless.
D. R.
Had a special gathering to celebrate something worthy of lots of beer. Guinness was spot on. Table service to boot. Really friendly staff and rapid service. Not to be be beaton. Highly recommended. They show sports and play good music.
C. K.
Had a great time here. Staff were really on the ball. Good selection of drinks and enough TV screens to watch the sports if that's your thing. Would definitely recommend.
F. Q.
A fantastic bar if you want to watch sport. With plenty of TV's to watch the game and a bag load of atmosphere, this is my favorite sports bar in London. the service is quick considering the amount of people that are in there at any one time. They will take drink orders as well which is so convenient. The location is easy to get to from Covent Garden and Holborn stations. Have not had the food yet but would if I was looking for it
C. L.
Great little pub. Nice seating, laidback place for any age to enjoy strong drinks. Staff is great. Right downtown close to Covent Gardens. Lots of late night cafes and restaurants a block away.
J. B.
Great pints Sunday roast was excellent
G. M.
Nice food and GAA always on. Could do with some Irish music in the background
J.
The best thing about the whole place was the playlist, hit after hit and then out of nowhere they played Down in Mexico from the Death
Prood soundtrack. That and the friendly attentive bar tenders won me over. 5/5
J. A.
Great for sports and probably the only pub I've been to in London where you don't need to go to the bar to get a drink. Plenty of staff behind the bar also make it really easy to get a drink if you do find yourself at the bar.
S. B.
Lovely quaint pub. The staff are fantastic and quick. However would avoid if there's football on as the neandrathrals come out in full force. Men shouting and screeching at the top of their lungs, not pretty
P. S.
Nice bar and selection of beers
M. S.
Fab spot, great Distanced service, and you can't beat the view!!!
J. G.
I love this place. Personally, I like to grab a Guinness and stand out the front. Then I ask the freemasons as they shuffle in from the masonic lodge opposite what it is they actually do in there.
None of them who are young enough to still communicate give me straight answers but one bought me a drink once, so I think I’m in.
S. K.
Good we bar, friendly staff, plenty of screens for football/rugby if ireland are playing don't expect a seat but staff come to you save you going to the bar, can even see screen from smoking area
M. C.
Good choice of drinks, lovely attentive staff.
R. R.
Watched champions league game recently here. They do table service so no way you will miss any action........as long as you have a strong bladder! Worth a visit!
T. C.
Best Irish bar in Westminster. Best sports bar in Westminster. If the staff are free they do table service. Reasonably priced for the area.
D. M.
Great service and lovely atmosphere!
B. O. B.
Good pub. Generally very nice unless you piss them off.... Short tempers all round... However, some of my best nights watching football have been in this place...
P. L.
Our regular place to watch football. Very friendly staff, a giant screen, but usually very busy and hard to find a seat in front of the screen.
All together a great pub.
O. M.
This a fabulous pub . The food is very good as is the service and the staff are very friendly, just what you want. It's a brilliant lively pub that opens late. Sports galore. I would definitely recommend, stands out from the other pubs close by.
M. R.
Very busy, as expected on a Friday evening but we managed to get a table. Drinks were ordered at the table and arrived quickly as were the portions of chips that we ordered. Good service and reasonably priced.
R. W.
Went for the England v Ireland Six Nations clash. As an England supporter I was a tad nervous to wear my England top, especially as the entire pub was rammed full of Irish fans. Obviously I needn't have worried as the Irish are always the most welcoming fans. Decent Guinness. Was slow to get served after the match, but that may have been because of the game result! 😁
R. A.
Good Beers and great place to watch sports
S. H.
Good location for hotel
E. D.
Great bar, like everything from Ireland.
Good drink, great selection of sport coverage. Great bar staff
O. R.
Brilliant pub. Great beer. Excellent staff. Good for watching sport
A. F.
Great pub, with an excellent vibe for watching sport events!
P. M.
Good attentive table service... Friend had issue with good beer not tasting right...no fuss made immediately changed.
L. S.
Waiters were very very helpful and friendly! Probably one of the best sports bars I've been too!
C. M.
Decent priced drinks, great location 👍
G. M.
Been going to this pub for many years. Lots of screens showing the sport and the staff are always very good. Definitely recommend
L. T.
One of the best pints of Guinness I’ve had in London. Superb.
B. C.
The place to go for live sport in central London, especially rugby. Good beer and food at reasonable prices, and plenty of TV screens.
Don't go if you like half-time or post-match analysis though; they turn the sound off as soon as the ref blows his whistle and subject you to crap music while guessing pundits' hand movements on the TV.
T. R.
Lovely staff and a nice cold drink served on a hot day.
G. K.
Great spot. Shows the GAA and great service. Home away from home
G. G.
I spent most of my trip away to London in this bar. This bar felt like the local pub right around the corner from me. Probably one of the greatest atmospheres I've experienced in England in a pub.
K. S.
Omg they do veg roll !! I have not had it since i was like 3 me and my dad who is a Belfast man have been searching for this forr ages and now we have it 😂😂😂😂😂 xxxx i go here regularly for the northan irland matches you have to go quite early for the game as it gets packed out !! But generally i love it good beer tato crisps 😍😍😍😍 and good prices what more can you ask for all served with a great irish atmosphere so you carnt ask for more !!
J. F.
To many people. Considering the popularity, I think it needs a bouncer and limit the numbers. However, it is a fantastic pub with a great atmosphere to watch sports in. Good food to.
D. L.
Great Irish pub in the middle of the West End. I pooped in here to watch a few 6 Nation ruby matches - it was like being at the stadium yourself.
A good selection of beers and Irish Whiskys. I didn't order any food however the menu looked like typical pub fare.
The location is ideal for a post theatre show night cap and there are quite a few theatres only a stones throw away.
Of course being a big Dame Judi Dench fan I had to stop in here and take a photo of the name of the pub.
M. N.
Quite k pub, good positioning, nice personnel but there is one big flaw that is very important to me: they don't have a beer garden and the space in front of the pub is just not enough for all the party people to HV a smoke or have a breath of fresh air while drinking.
V. P.
Lovely pub, good atmosphere, always busy with outside space at the front of the pub which is a good place for after work drinks. Food looks good but maybe pricey for portion size.
M. H.
Great staff and atmosphere we sat outside really chilled vibe
J. S.
Great food and great atmosphere. The service is really fast. Crowd can be loud when the place is full but that's ok. Free wifi. I would definately recommend this pub for other tourists. 😊
K. P.
This place is jumping when a LFC game is on! Service great! Reasonable prices! Get here early if you are watching the footy! No table reservation on football match day
L. B. T.
It's an Irish pub: busy, loud and with Guinness. So if you like this environment it'll be a good option. If space and being able to have a conversation is important, you might want to try elsewhere.
T. W.
Very friendly and chatty crowd open late
M. L.
Quick friendly and efficient waitress service. Knowledgeable about gluten free beers. Busy place but not too noisy to interfere with conversation.
S. H.
Good pub food and good selection of drink served by efficient and friendly staff (as long as your not rude to them or being a twit)
Gets very busy on televised sports time particularly when a big game hence only 4 stars but if you like crowded venues for sport this is the pub to go to
I. F.
Fantastic pub to watch sports, but to the pub early to get a good viewing spot. Evey sport game I have watch at Pholomena's the atmosphere has been amazing.
M. M.
We went there to see Chelsea vs Barça. The atmosphere has been fantastic. Really enjoyed the match. Only problem I've seen is the price, too expensive.
A. V.
Food was lovely, Polish girl on the bar was helpful
g. o.
Friendly, attentive staff. The sports didn't get in the way of having a meal with friends. The food is the typical pub offering and it was good.
F. O.
It's a decent pub though I expected much more from sourdough steak sandwich. Meat was great, fries a bit less, bread so so, too much sauce
I. I. B.
Always friendly staff, good beer, and live sports. Not to forget the very reasonable prices, considering the area! Highly recommended!
n.
great staff!!! lovely pub chips and good vibe
D. K.
Fantastic Irish bar. Superb staff, Great food and great booze...Dont think about going; go you wont regret it xxx
O. P.
I admire this restaurant very much. there is a special ambiance. The kitcen is tasty. the service is dynamic and the team is polite. The pay is satisfactory. very much recommend.
P.
Left the Freemason's Arms for being so rude and inconsiderate and was directed to this bar for sports. Entered and asked if we could watch F1, not a problem in the slightest and organised for it to be on one of their many TV's along with Tennis, Tour de France and Gaelic Football. Accommodating, friendly atmosphere and great beer.
SHOULD HAVE GONE HERE FIRST! - we'll know next time.
A. D.
I really liked the environment. The atmosphere in the bar is just perfect for sports events. Fast service and a cold beer. What more can i say
J. H.
Great pub, fantastic staff loved it.
C. E.
Pretty good pub. Standard "Irish" type. If you want a Guiness get yourself in here. If you want a pina colada they'll give it a go, but you'll get some funny looks.
R. M.
A lovely pub, the staff were friendly! There were plenty of drinks to choose from and some nice craft beers. Highly recommended visit!
A. S.
Just brilliant. Homely Irish food and great atmosphere. What more can you ask for.
S. H.
Great for a bit of food or beer post or pre top secret comedy
E. R. F.
You can order drinks from the table which is rare for a London Pub. The staff is attentive and they're pretty quick serving
B. L.
Very friendly staff got us stools when our food arrived even though it was very busy. Would definitely go again
T. C.
We watched there the Heineken cup They were very nice with us,good service.
M. S.
Watched the rugby, good view, easy table service and clear Covid-19 routes and process.
A. A.
Nice pub in nice area. Crowded on football days (that's not bad)! Rafaelle, the manager, is very kind. Also the rest of the team.
N. J.
It was our first visit to the pub today. We felt relaxed, comfortable & welcomed. Staff were very pleasant. It's a Must go place....
C. D.
Great bar for watching sport, watched the rugby here and had 3 TVs in view. Even better was the fact they offered table service.
J. C.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff. If you are looking for somewhere to watch the world cup this summer you couldn't do better. 👍
P. R.
This is a first class bar friendly staff good atmosphere reasonably priced drinks a great place to meet don't miss out
A. C.
Good food, great staff. Fantastic place to watch sport. Expensive drinks, but it is in Covent Garden
M. S.
Ace venue for the rugby. Cheap for the location, food was reasonable and tasty, staff were coming round to tables for rounds which was appreciated during the game!
R. T.
Clean pub, friendly staff but requires better selection of food and drink from back home. Guinness was ok and shows GAA matches.
d. n.
Good sized pub quick friendly service. Lots of tv's for watching sport. Great pint of Guinness
G. K.
Always a fun hangout, and very impressed by the
friendly table service! Good quality food and beer on offer.
I. C.
I find this pub very cozy and great for watching sports, but it gets insanly busy, had to look for another place to watch the game last time.
J. R.
Very busy sports bar. Very narrow so appeared even more crowded and chaotic than it was. Good atmosphere and speed of service at the bar.
K. S.
Frequently go there when in the Metropllis.
Beer good as is the food and very friendly staff. Prices fair for the area too.
A. H.
Below average food quality. The only thing they have going for them are the large amounts of tv screens for showing different matches and the extra cold guinness.
S. J.
Fantastic service and very nice bar for sports. I would recommend it
I. M.
Plenty of screens for watching sport, good selection of drinks, usual prices for the area, so not cheap but worth it.
S. F.
Good selection of beers and the only place I know where you can watch Northern Ireland matches in central London and munch a bag of Tayto Cheese & Onion. Love it.
d. o.
Great music and fantastic atmosphere
S. S. (.
