Reviews of Shakespeare

Popped in for a pint before meeting friends at a restaurant round the corner! Lovely place will definitely pop back soon. Had a pint of Yardbird which I'd never had before, gorgeous! Then an old favourite Abbott mmmmm!
P. S.
Nice pub and it was buzzing even on a Wednesday night. Most tables were full. We didn’t feel rushed though. The drinks were great.

Spacious hall, fast service, a sufficient number of different types of German beer, delicious food. Great for large groups.

A Green king pub. The food was very nice & very generous I'd say too. Expect it to be absolutely heaving after 5 00pm even during weekdays

This is a pub with a great location, near to the Victoria station and the Apollo theatre.
The food was nice and the portions were good. However, the staff was very unfriendly, they actually ignored our presence unless we put ourselves in their faces and talked. We understood they had a lot of work, but still, the customers have no fault in that and they should make an effort.
Our table was dirty, and as you are expected to order at the bar, you are also the one taking your own beverage to your table. No one showed to take the dirty glasses nor clean and desinfect the table. It is important to say, we are in a world pandemic.
Once our food was ready the waitress brought it and took the dirty glasses. But still...

Wow!!! Long queue on the Sunday at 2.30 PM.... meaning food should be good and I can confirm that everything was fresh and tasty!!
Added to my favourite restaurant

Your standard classic English pub, named after William Shakespeare’s father John. Being directly opposite Victoria Station, it’s in a convenient location if you’ve got time to kill before a train or coach.
Allegedly the landlady here was murdered in the 1800s and dog-fighting use to happen in the basement, though the same could probably be said of most pubs from 200 years ago.
One last think to add, if you cause any trouble here they’ll have no choice than to say, “You’re bard!”
If you found my review interesting or helpful please leave a thumbs up 👍 Thanks!

Just passing by for another quick stop, a quick snack, a drink and a chat after a long shift at work. Nice atmosphere, cool space and nice staff.

Beautiful place around Victoria station. I come here everytime I'm in the area and everytime I leave with a good vibe. Strongly recommend it!

I wish I had taken a picture the chicken and wild mushroom pie it look amazing when it came to the the table. It tasted even better. My complements to the chief today, the food was fantastic and I will be returning for more when I'm back in London.
A great selection of drinks to suit everyone and right across from the Victoria Apollo Theater home of Wicked. Perfect for pre show meal and drinks highly recommend this venue.

My friend and I had a fab time whilst visiting the Shakespere Pub. Ricardo and Max were amazing and made us feel extremely welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Good quality food and would highly recommend

Very nice traditional pub! I've been going there for years.

Quick service, good pints, and tasty sharable food.

Capped a lovely, though rainy, day on the touring London by bus. The food and drink was delicious. Very busy place, obviously quite popular with locals and visitors. The only negative is the toilet facilities.... many not functioning, very foul smelling, and pretty dirty. Thankfully the bathrooms are on the basement level and the aroma didn't invade the dining/bar area.

Nice pub, and generally appeared to be very clean, including the toilets.
However the staff that served us were awful.
First was miserable, unfriendly and it appeared to be a huge effort.
Second female huffing and puffing, swearing and couldn't be bothered to move from the till to serve customers. Another chap waiting commented on the poor attitude.
Maybe the staff are over worked/knackered from the weekend. But doesn't reflect well on the business.
Beer was very good.
That's the important bit :)

This is my second visit and was as happy as the first time. A pub that offers table service is rare these days so it's a breath of fresh air.
Typical pub food which is good.
Busy place so service is a bit slow but we'll worth a visit.
Good selection of cider and beers.

Great pub with enough size and seating, wonderful position just outside the station, perfect meeting place to wait with a pint!

Food pub, staff a bit unconcerned about the customers. The food looked good. Beer was good.

Lovely convenient place, pop in when I'm awaiting a train!
Friendly environment, slick quick staff.

I was there last Friday... after work drinks with a friend she picked this place.
We ordered Sauvignon blanc, the guy in the counter did not said if was French, Californian or New Zealand... the wine was warm not chilled.
He did not say how much per glass but for 6 glasses of wine and a portion of garlic bread I paid £62
I did not get a receipt.
Food was average, tables were not clean.
Toilets were fairly clean

Nice staff, decent choices of beer, and the food is typical Greene King.

Pretty typical pub decor and menu. Prices are ok. I got fish and chips and both were quite tasty. Not the best ever, but still very good and it is a very generous portion of fish. I see comments from others regarding the slowness of staff and that is true, however we just called them over when needed and we got service when needed so it worked out fine for us.

The Steak and Kidney Pie was so good. Sit down at a table and order at the bar. Very relaxed. The cocktails are huge!
K. J.
Nice place for a pit stop!
Good pub food & decent selection of beers. Even made a good espresso.
M. M.
Nice relaxing bar. Reasonably priced drinks, especially for Victoria.

Nice place just next to Buckingham palace. Its a Greene King establishment and that for me is the standard for a good pub. There are better ones but this is convenient, reliable and friendly place with normal prices, not a tourist trap. Their fish n chips and sausages and mush are always great comfort food. It also has clean restrooms with more than one stall.

Superb atmosphere. Very ambient in the 'sparkly' but cosy lighting which accentuates the large selection of alcohol at the bar giving it that bistro style in that Shakespearean literary aura.
Nice soft music in the background for that pre-performance readiness that you'd expect with the Shakespeare Glove.
Very spacious and airy seating area giving it the bistro pub ambient that urges on your appetite for a reasonably priced ciabbata or their popular favourites like pie and mash; ham, egg and chios dish; Hunter's Chicken; Roasted Half Chicken and Chicken Tikka.
I got the cheapest on the menu: cheese and chutney ciabbata with salad and it is the freshest ciabbata and beautifully made salad! 👍
Overall a really impressive bistro pub with a good feel ambience.

A bit crowded, and quite pricey compared to the portion sizes. The pie was ok, but the crust was very hard, impossible to cut with a knife. Don't order the stake, as it's quite chewy.
T. K.
Perfect beer and monster big and very tasty fish and chips! Really amazing! 👍🤘Don’t forget to ORDER ON THE BAR! There is no waiters.

Stood in front of this place in 1991. on vacation from Chicago. I enjoy looking at the transformations on Google maps over the years. Wonder what it looked like in 1800? I'm guessing not much different.
J. B.
Great Fish and chips. Great location. Be warned, everything must be ordered at the bar and paid for immediately, this is very different than North American Restaurants. Make sure if you find a table to keep one person there at all times or it will be taken when you get back.
H. M.
Lovely meal and the staff very attentive and friendly will certainly go back again

A nice cosy bar. Went here after seeing Wicked. The staff was really nice and friendly. I would totally go there again.
L. W.
Pretty decent pub food. Lots of construction around the place making it hard to access. Awesome steak and ale pie. Have to go up to the bar to order, this is normal in a pub but heads up for anyone not from the UK.
A. L.
The pizza was tasty and fairly priced. The downstairs had these super cute little nooks for sitting in and chatting without too much disruption. The service was mediocre. We did not receive what we ordered and were finally told they didn't have the ingredients to make it. Typically I would expect to receive that information before completing the order. The toilets were quite odorific as well.

Does a job. Good fun. Next to Victoria. Door staff a bit rude. But worth a pint on the way home!
M. V.
Great selection of beers and the fish and chips were as good as advertised! Not greasy and the fries were awesome! Great authentic pub near Victoria Station!

Beautiful place to go for a pint, nice staff, especially Ricardo, he's funny and very professional. Love it.

I went for a pint and the staff was amazing, especially Ricardo. Funny guy and very professional.

It was good dish. The place is noisy but it's a good atmosphere. Toilets were dirty
B. H.
Excellent place to have a drink and a chat.
Friendly, efficient staff and reasonable prices for London.

Decent pub in good location. Food was nice and well priced and ample seating
M. R. A.
Delicious fish and chips, great service and atmosphere, just a few steps away from Victoria coach station
R. M.
The best was the staff.. I have never seen such a jovial staff to entertain. We stumbled upon this place but the atmosphere there is absolutely vibrant. The staff there was fantastic especially Alex (think that's his name)
Beautiful environment !!

Nice place for a bite of food before getting on the train. "properly English" or at least what a tourist would expect from an English pub.
Perhaps not a great place to bring children as there were quite a few who had a bit much to drink.
