Reviews of Simon The Tanner
E. R.
Great place! The beers are great, the staff is amazing, there is a lady that knows everything about beers and recommends always the one that is perfect for your taste, and the food is delicious. We had the nduja and the pepperoni pizzas and they were great! Highly recommend this place.
E. K.
Never over-crowded. Awesome choices on tap. Great music. Definitely try the pizza. The quiz needs night has been fun last I went. Not my local, but I wish it was.
F. L.
Fantastic beer selection, friendly staff, great energy. Love it here.
N. W.
Looks like your bog standard Irish pub from the outside but inside is a mix of friendly community pub and tap room. The selection of beers was really good, with offerings from local Orbit Brewery and The Kernel. It's always a treat to find a decent pub off the beaten track and this is certainly one of those. Get yourself down there pronto.
R. F.
Nice pub just don't be the first of the day to order the cask, as it will come out as room temperature (which despite what the barman says is not how ale should be served, around 11C is the optimum temperature) giving cask an incorrect reputation as warm beer. All they need to do is pull through the first pint or so of the day, after that the beer is a great temperature.
G. W.
Unexpected find and so glad I did. Fantastic Sunday roast. Truly engaging team behind the bar. Finally a London pub with multple Porters on draft plus so many other great beer selections.
R. R.
Nice little pub with good selection of craft beers including kernel. Good atmosphere, feels very homely
W. H.
Great beer selection and lovely staff to help guide you through it. Much better music than most pubs (Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Pulp, LCD Soundsystem) lovely place to spend an afternoon with friends
J. T.
Really nice spot for drinks with a good beer selection (haven’t eaten in here yet) - lady behind the bar (sounded very Bristol) was very friendly too!
E. O.
What's not to like? Good beer at less than £4 a pint, friendly enough bar staff and a nice atmosphere - both traditional and international. It's obviously a bit out of the way, but is a lovely little option if you're in the area, especially since the nearby Gladstone sadly closed down.
N. E.
A great selection of real ales and lagers. A bit off the beaten track but worth a visit.
R. C.
Fantastic pub, great selection of beers and a great atmosphere.
F. K.
Lovely neighbourhood pub, looks a bit like a pub might have looked 30 years ago, but the menu is quite modern. Lovely craft beers (real craft beers not what Heineken wants you to believe craft beers are), reasonably priced and very friendly staff.
C. K.
We were at a private event. Lovely service really nice pizza. Worth a visit
K. D.
Excellent pub with an interest range of real ales and keg craft beers.
K. B.
A great pub with a good selection of not-your-standard beers and ales at a cheap price. Cosy and friendly.
There's plenty of bar games and tables which is a big plus 👍.
A really enjoyable visit :).
J. M.
Visiting from US. You know it’s a great place when it’s packed with locals. Great pizza and beer! Great selection and friendly staff.
j. g.
Local pub which specialises in individual craft beers and real ales , all seem to be from individual brewery's , the choice is great and the guy behind the bar is very knowledgeable about the beers , they even do pizza too ,. Great place 👌
C. R.
Great staff, great beer, great pizza, great quiz. What’s not to like? :)
J. B.
Lovely staff and top beer selection! Food looked great but didn't have it. Good veggie options.
S. P.
Nice pub with decent selection of ales on offer. Went on a Sunday and had a lovely three meat roast dinner. Friendly staff. Will visit again next time I'm in the area.
S. C.
The beer blackboard says it all. This place has GOOD BEER. Undiscovered find! Will be back
A. G.
Great local boozer near London Bridge, Ndjuja Pizza was of a surprisingly high quality, will definitely return
G. R.
Ah this place is awesome!
Friendly and knowledgeable humans behind the bar, changing selection of the best brews the area has to offer and some old constants. Dog-friendly to a tee - pat some good boys - Overall a great and proper pub.
Check out the quiz on Tuesdays but book a table ahead.
Six out of five.
A. B.
Lovely little pub with local beers, reasonably priced. Glad we stumbled across this place, will be back soon.
A. D.
Great pub with an excellent choice of real ales. Also the sharing platters are great and very reasonably priced
K. A.
Great prices and great beer and without the usual London gastro pub snobbery.
Highly recommended!
D.
Decent boozer, sound staff, good beer and prices
S. M.
Awesome cosy little pub. Staff are really friendly and welcoming, can't recommend it highly enough. The Sunday roast is top notch as well. There are always a load of dogs in the pub which helps create a fun atmosphere. Toilets are a bit rank but it's a pub 🤷♂️
D. B.
Great pub, beer, food, service and atmosphere
S. M.
Brilliant. Sapphire knows her onions. Fantastic beers and great staff
J. C. (. a. J.
Very good Bermondsey free house. Two cask ales available when I visited, one of which was a porter. No outdoor seating.
R. B.
Great ale selection and expertly conditioned
P. V.
Nice selection of ales especially the "Tiny Rebel" Cwtch ale
L. W.
New favorite pub in Bermondsey, if not London.
C. H.
Interesting beers, sensibly priced and a lovely place for a drink. Decent food too.
M. W.
What a fantastic selection of beers. My friends spent the evening exploring the Germanic offerings whilst I explored the Anglicised craft beers on tap. Still 4 more beers on draught hand pull we didn't get a chance to sample. A sign of a fantastic range of beers. We'll just have to visit again to complete the sampling!
A. F.
Lovely, welcoming pub, with good, reasonably priced food. An excellent selection of ales and all set in a relaxing atmosphere. Come for the beer, the food, or just to relax on a "proper boozer" !
T.
friendly service. Good range on tap
K. M.
A good combination of cosy boozer and modern pub. An excellent range of mostly (very) local beers. Small food menu but tasty and generous. Bar staff knew their beers and were very friendly.
a. v. e.
Lovely local pub around the corner of Bermondsey street. Normally go in for one of the craft beers they serve but they serve food as well. Had delicious fries and chicken wings and it was just what I needed.
N. F.
Really friendly staff, excellent food and can always find a seat!
T. T.
Great atmosphere and very knowledgeable and welcoming staff. I am looking forward to eating there when the kitchen opens.
R. W.
Nice little boozer on the fringe of gentrified Bermondsey. More reasonable prices than some nearby alternatives. Usually 4 cask beers on handpump plus a range of craft keg beers of varying styles.
A. J.
Lovely pub bustling with character. They've got some lovely beers too! (You don't see Delirium Tremens in too many pubs). I go to the pub quiz every Tuesday and it's always good fun.
C. P.
Compact but friendly. Decent selection of rotating beers that are priced better than The Woolpack. Friendly staff. A great place to avoid the post-work 'shouty' crowd/day-trippers/posers that sadly blights Bermondsey Street these days.
B. L.
Have always liked the cosy quiet vibe this pub somehow manages to maintain despite its central location. Good beer too, although the burger was only so so I thought
M. W.
Great pub; a free house with resident & guest real ales, good wholesome food and a rather excellent Tuesday quiz night tradition. I was there tonight with 3 friends from Chennai, India; the reception was patient and friendly though we scored last place in the quiz! A good experience every time.
T. W.
Nice little pub tucked away on Long lane, 100 yards from Bermondsey St. They have a good range of beers on tap from a German pilsners to ciders and some good guest ales.
If you catch the right night there someone playing the piano in the corner, good place for a quite pint and catch up with a friend.
K. C.
From being one of the most notorious and nefarious bars in Bermondsey to this little gem the Simon the Tanner makes it's Mark. Ok gets a little crowded but the staff are young and hip and friendly and don't mind if like me you're in your 50s just out to have a great drink and a gossip with friends, or like the majority of Punters in your 20s shouting wildly and enthusiastically about everything under the sun.
Oh yes and they also do really good food and are extremely friendly towards dogs
A. M.
Really nice pub. Excellent selection of craft beers and ales. Friendly staff.
N. H.
Good beer. Some nice folk, dogs and all.
D. V.
Decent boozer with fab range if beer. Food is ok too. A great choice for a relaxed pint with friends in an otherwise pricey and overly swanky area.
C. P.
Great local with always very good beer options on tap. The quizz night is waaay to hard for me and the kitchen options are limited and only at lunch, but the sharing platters are pretty decent.
J. B.
I really like this pub. There isn't anything that special about it aside from the great beer selection (which changes frequently) but it has a nice feel to it and the staff are nice and friendly.
S. W.
Great selection of beer, and lovely atmosphere. One of my favourite pubs
J. L.
Great little pub with top quality beer. Not a bad place to head to after the Beer Mile... if you're still standing.
M. M.
It's a great little pub and the food is good and reasonably priced. I wouldn't make a trip across London but if in the area and looking for a non over swanked place for lunch it's a good shout.
W. L.
Cool experience, didn't realize that it was a dog friendly place. As we have been missing our dog while on vacation in Europe it was very comforting to have dogs about. Staff was friendly and very helpful to us clueless yanks
T. C.
Slightly pricey and cramped, but a great and always friendly local pub with a wide selection of beers. Would recommend the Tuesday night pub quiz, but wouldn't bother with the food.
C. G. B.
Nice and chilled independent pub with a great range of beers and lagers. Worth a vusit....
M. S.
Great selection of beers and ales. Love the Rothaus on the tap. Also plenty beers available on cask. Thumbs up.
A. J.
Great pub, really nice food an a super selection of beer too. Friendly staff was a nice surprise
I. S.
Excellent beer selection and a very pleasant space to enjoy them in. I wish this was my local.
B. Y.
Nice pub located on Long Lane which closer to Bermondsey Street. My family and I visited London from May to June 2013. We stayed in an apartment in Sadlers Court on Wild's Rent SE1. Simon The Tanner is the nearest local pub and popular with residents of Sadlers Court.
Pub has warm welcoming atmosphere. Very friendly staff (there were 2 medical students from King's College working in the evening). Good selection of beers and food is good. Most of the customers are young professionals living in apartments nearby.
I have 2 young kids and this is also a good place for family lunch/dinner.
S. G.
Great range of interesting quality beers, decent food and wine, good games stash, cheery staff, not too noisy, good vibe.
M. R.
Great craft beer pub, excellent Sunday roast.
Menu recently changed to sausages, not sure what the situation with the Sunday roast is now
M. T.
It's good, Tuesday nights are pub quiz so hard to get a seat. Good collection of beers though!
J. H.
Nice place. Pub quiz on Tueaday's The can do with a slightly better food menu and some more ventilation. Popular with the locals. Good to meet local people.
D. C.

D. X.

Nice little pub, good beer, lighting could have been better if I'm being picky, but don't let that put you off!
A. S.
Pretty solid neighborhood pub with interesting selection of beers, good food, helpful staff and cosy atmosphere.
J. S.
Reasonable selection off beers on tap and bottled. Bar snacks but not meals served. Pleasant staff
A. P.
Good unfussy bar in an overhyped location. Excellent beer range, frequent changing casks. Nice sausage rolls.
G. S.
Nice local pub, good choice of beers and friendly service.
D. C.
A brilliant pub - great beers, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The area, and London, needs more of this!
S. H. (.
Great pub and interesting beer on tap. Pub quiz on a Tuesday a must if you are a clever so and so.
m. s.
Much improved beer wise. Great unspoilt pub with good beer at cheap prices for the area
C.
Food options were quite limited when we got there (although we did get there after the kitchen closed), but the atmosphere is great and they also offer board games for the bored (get it). They also have an interesting selection of beers, that weren't particularly awesome, but we had some fun experimenting with.
N. R.
Decent, straightforward boozer in an area not well served for pubs. Good beer selection, with a balance of cask and keg
M. B.
One of my favourite pubs. Great food, guest taps, board games, friendly staff, visiting dogs
L. O.
