Reviews of Spread Eagle Pub, Wandsworth
D. S.
Great to see this lovely Victorian pub reopen, and even better to see how beautifully it has been refurbished. A Grade II listed building, sympathetically restored, and retaining all of its original features. Now a boutique hotel also; a great addition to the town centre.
Great selection of well kept real ales, and the food also looked good.
With so many traditional pubs either closing or being changed into wine bars, it’s great to see Young’s investing in this place.
N. R.
Stunning hotel! The room as are decorated beautifully and extremely comfortable. The staff are very helpful, attentive and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will not hesitate to book again.
W. k.
This recently renovated pub has a very comfortable atmosphere, still retaining a lot of the old wood furnishings as well as having lots of interesting decorations which catch the eye.
I took my partner here and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Good drinks, excellent food and superb staff.
Shout out to Alex for making us feel welcome

Absolutely lovely way to spend a
Sunday afternoon in this beautifully refurbished pub, enjoyed a perfectly chilled rosé and the most delicious pork roast, not to mention the jam roly poly just like ‘my mum used to make’- delicious! Attention to detail is fabulous, even down to the cutlery and crockery. Great service, couldn’t fault a thing and would thoroughly recommend- it’s also very dog friendly and the music playlist comfortably in the background was pretty good too! Well done and thanks to the team.

After a long time of refurbishment, lockdown, etc they are finally open with full strength and I can see the difference from before. Friendly staff, good menu, nice music and we can spend long Sunday hours with pleasure. Already one of my favourite places in Wandsworth.

We stay for 5 nights, the room was extremely comfortable and beautifully decorated. Also really nice and kind staff, and the pub below is also great, really nice environment and delicious food. Really good value for money as for the same price range you get regular/bad rooms in central London. Is really good connected via train and buses, and after a long day or night around London it’s the perfect place to come back and relax.
B. E.
What an amazing refurb! Been in a few times for drinks and some food and everytime it’s been perfect, check out their bar snacks
A. H.
The pub has recently been refurbished but that take nothing away from the character from this beautiful building, amazing cocktails I had 4/6 of their signature cocktails which were all fantastic, just us a few small plates of food which was impeccable the lamb scrumpets were amazing, omg the puddings, the sticky toffee profiteroles were so good I have no words to describe, all the staff were friendly and very attentive, Tom, Reece and Alex fantastic job, will see you all again soon
M. J.
Beautifully refurbished Victorian flagship pub for the Ram Brewery. Very friendly staff.
K. L.
The pub is lively and the renovations clearly improved the venue. Great selections of beers and other drinks including Young’s ales. Staff were friendly and helpful. An odd thing to mention but I was glad to see the toilets were clean and spacious. I had a super comfy armchair by the fireplace which was excellent. There were a few kids around so I believe it’s good for families too.
Only reason I’m taking a star off is because a table of drunks were shouting at each other and the staff didn’t seem bothered even though customers were put off.
L. J.
Truly a 5 star review
Excellent service, amazing team, fantastic food and a room which really made me feel at home. Every box ticked and I highly recommend this hotel- I’m already booking my next visit.
Perfect for working set up too with a 15£ lunch and all you can drink coffee/ tea. Fast, reliable wifi and a great space to work in (and never feels like you’re in the way)
Must try- asparagus salad and the less healthy but equally delicious, chip butty lunch!
Top class place and thanks to the team for making me feel so welcome 🤗
D. C.
Really beautifully refurbished pub - they've done a fabulous job. I've been here twice and James has been amazing both times, helping me navigate the menu and speaking to the chef about allergens. The food is always delicious too. A must visit!

We had a great stay at the Spread Eagle.
It has had a full refurbishment and the rooms are extremely comfortable. Everything is fresh and new.
We were only there for 3 nights but it was thoroughly enjoyable.
My only (constructive) criticism is the need for more hooks in the bathroom to hang clothes, etc. !!
Overall, a very pleasant experience and the staff are also very friendly and accomodating.
We will repeat at Christmas !
C. S.
We had a roast last Sunday lunchtime and it was absolutely fantastic! The pub has had a major refurb - it looks terrific, the staff are very helpful without being intrusive and the food is delicious. We are very much looking forward to going back - a very nice venue.

Great hotel, very quiet despite being on a main road. Lovely well appointed rooms. Would definitely stay again.
Nice pub next door with excellent selection of drinks and really good food.
S. L.
Fabulous Sunday roast! Magnificent Yorkshires, couldn't fault it.
Perhaps a side jug of extra gravy would have been nice, only because it was so tasty! Very freindly staff that left you to enjoy the meal, but available if required, subtle but an important touch.
C. B.
Have lived in the area for 12 years and ashamed to say this is the first time I’ve made it to the Spread Eagle, admittedly as was aware of the recent refurb and new chefs etc and I agree it’s a really beautiful pub with a real sun trap of an outside area too. Went there for Sunday lunch today and had the rib eye special. Great food and service. Will definitely be back
m. h.
The pub looks beautiful, the staff are very helpful and the food is tasty.
The only negative I could find, there is a table made out of pennies. I don’t think this fits in the pub. Why isn’t it made out of one pound coins?
J. A.
Such a beautiful refurb of an old pub, the interiors and particularly the chandeliers are stunning!
Also the BEST espresso martini I've ever had. We'll be back soon to eat.
J. W.
Excellent service, we was served by the amazing James. All staff are friendly and accommodating. Food was superb, you have to visit this pub! :D
T. N.
We had an evening meal at this recently reopened pub and were very impressed with the quality of the food. I would defo recommend the lamb cutlets and the sausage roll starter.
S. L.
Stunning old victorian pub & Hotel, its been restored to the highest standard , clean , cozy warm and friendly .
I had a lovely pint of cider and a black pudding scotch egg served warm, (delicious) the staff are very friendly, great pub ! Well done
M.
The food is amazing! I’d recommend the fig and apricot bread, the burrata starter and the sticky toffee profiteroles. Very accommodating and friendly staff and will definitely be heading back.
W. T.
Went on day 2 of the opening and food plus service was brilliant 👌🏼 We’re local and seem to have found a new spot for Sunday roasts which are great. Vestina was our host who matched the food & drink quality with great service. Thanks folks

SPREAD THE WORD!
Lovely olde worlde pub hotel. Almost perfect except parking and drop off are difficult and food bit expensive. Also no lift, but some ground floor rooms if booking in advance. Young and fit, go for it.
F. H.
Amazing Food, Roast Dinner sharing platter was enough for 2-3 people! Lovely day.
I would say good pricing on food but drinks over priced.
S. M.
The roast was just meh. The gravy was basically water, roast potatoes had no crunch and the greens were very hard and not pleasant. The baked camembert was nice but not enough onion marmalade.
B. S.
Beautiful hotel, with lovely rooms and very friendly staff. Even though the breakfast offer wasn't incredibly varied, they had the most tasty bread.
R. S.
First visit and was extremely impressed. The place looks stunning, the food is superb and the service was impeccable. Highly recommend checking it out
T. B.
Lovely pub. The roast dinner is unreal! Worth every penny.
A. S.
The staff are so nice and the cocktails are amazing, best espresso martini in wandsworth x
M. H.
Great food and drink, friendly helpful staff, and the refurbishment has been done brilliantly. 100% recommended.
B. K.
Fantastic pub. Great to see such a fantastic building refurnished. Undoubtedly the best Young's ale in Wandsworth
S. K.
Very nice evening, even on their second night after a complete rebuild with new Team the food was very good. Look forward to trying it again.
R. D.
Cozy pub, amazing food (try the Caesar)
A. S.
Great food, brilliant staff and a lovely relaxed atmosphere made for a perfect birthday lunch.
G. R.
Really nice staff.. but very expensive for no good reason. Staff would get 5stars... but obviously they don't control prices. A shame.
T. S.
Excellent food and service in this wonderful old (recently refurbished) pub in the heart of Wandsworth
J. H.
Wow what an interior, fantastic etched glass every where and good beers
C. B.
Nice beer. Good surroundings
G.
Friendy staff, Saturday not to Crowded.
K. S.
Perfect place to stay in. 100% Recommend!
A. R.
The local pub i was fortunate to call my own while I loved in Wandsworth, London UK. It's a place where everybody knows your name and will buy the next round. Loved to sit and have a nip and great conversation with people that were like family. The best!
J. R.
Beautiful old Victorian pub with character sends you straight back to 1900! Wish it would stay like this and of course it’s going to be refurbished next year they told is! Oh please don’t change this bored of the gastro pubs around London. This has charm and comfort.
N. D.
A fantastic pub, beautiful interior decorations, very old fashioned traditional London look. There is a pool table and darts. Pints are quite cheap, especiallt for an independent pub in London, starting at £3:40 for a Young's bitter with a good range of lagers. They do a lovely ram rod special, and tet land lady is a cracking character. The clientele are lovely and very friendly, just a shame that the pub isn't more busy. I suppose some people prefer paying too much to drink in the bland Alma.
A. K. l. G.
It is a small, quiet pub where you can have a nice lunch or dinner with family or friends. You can invite your friends or mates over for a game of pool or darts. Their outdoor space is really big and they also provide a a car park.
s. s.
Someone called this pub God's waiting room and that's a good reason to visit before it meets a fate similar to the Two Brewers/Brewers Inn up the road. This pub has ornate mirrors and glass giving the impression of a gin palace, so get down there have a cheap pint and savour the atmosphere.
L. B.
Good quiet pub with friendly staff lots of space for hiring. second bar usually empty so can hold meetings there with being over heard or prior booking. Bit pricey for drinks but food is very in expensive for meals out and decent quality.
f.
Old man boozer but the decor in here is amazing. All cut glass and mirrors, got the feel of a proper old gin Palace. Staff friendly. Got horse racing on a couple of tiny tellys if that's your thing and footie on a bigger telly round the back. There'll be just 1 or 2 interested in the footie so you'll definitely get a good view!
Q. M.
Fantastic pub, full of character, decent prices and top staff.
Pool and darts have a good space to themselves.
Really enjoy going there :)
J. H.
Impressive late Victorian interior with lots of etched glass and partitions separating this large pub into several separate sections - as is typical of many Victorian pubs. A Young's pub facing the former brewery, making it a little bittersweet perhaps. Seemed to attract a bit of a football crowd on the afternoon when we went, but it was a sufficiently big pub that you didn't need to be in the same section as where the TV screens were on.
B. H.
The Spread Eagle is a fantastic pub that is one of the few in the area that hasn't been gentrified and has a real traditional London pub atmosphere.
The staff are friendly, there are board games and a snooker table for those in a competitive mood but if it's just a quiet drink you want then there is a really nice quiet lounge area in the back where you can relax. Where else in central London can you go for a pint and feel your on the set of Eastenders and pay for drinks that you won't have to mortgage your soul to the Devil in order to afford.
I hope that The Spread Eagle will keep it's unique identity for many years to come.
P. C.
The saloon bar is massive in size and the decor is fantastic . The pub had a re-furb a few years ago but it looks a bit out of date now . It needs re-modernising to keep up with the other pubs in the area . I love the pub as iv been using it for years . Steve the landlord keeps a good pint and the bar staff are all friendly , which is nice .
D. Š.
Perfect ambient, perfect service, excelent beer
B. M.
Glad it's reopened will be going back in the future
S. B.
A well preserved gem, worth a visit just for the interior. Quiet local boozer. Sadly a Young's pub with just two cask options.
C. H.
Fabulous old pub just as it should be original lighting and etched glass. Good staff great for a quite drink
A. I.
Nice classic styled pub. Bi and airy, loads of seating. Has darts and pool table. Outside smoking area. Mainly a locals pub but friendly none the less.
G.
We visited for a quick drink. Fantastic location and staff. The building looks historic and the decor inside reiterates that. The place looks to be frequented by locals.
I. M.
Lovely refurbished hotel
J. E.
Nice and big and spacious with proper old Edwardian pub styling. Good pool table and good selection of beers.
R. B.
This place is now closed being refurbished as a hotel. I doubt it will be the same. They call it progress. It's not that I don't believe in progress I just wish they'd make some!
F. H.
Its like stepping back in time , the locals are the kray twins old pals or ww2 hard nose basteds , amazing old place , it's just missing some can can girls in that sitting room next to the bogs😏
t. a.
Nice pub in the center of Wandsworth not too busy but great if you want to talk and not listen to loud music or watch TV. Staff are very friendly and accomodating.
G. R.
Ace pub. Good prices. Good staff. Proper old coaching Inn.. smoked glass etc. Well worth a visit
K. B.
Historic pub with some very old features still in place, check three glass and the panels, good beer too
K. H.

A. H.
Beautiful pub. Proper old fashioned London pub. Cheapest compared to other surrounding pubs but still expensive.
J.
Fairly standard, traditional pub. TVs could use an update. Good service and selection of beers.
U. Z.
Very good prices and good beers. If you are looking for a pub with the style of the early 1900 the spread eagle is the right place.
n. s.
Nice bar with a decent pool table but the TV is tiny and fuzzy pretty much unwatchable do not come here for football

What a beautiful hotel . Recently restored and all has been done to an exceptionally high standard. Our room was absolutely gorgeous. The staff were very friendly and check in was seamless with all information needed provided. Will definitely return and have already recommended to friends and family as not only is it a beautiful hotel to stay at .. the transport links were only a few minutes walk away and a lovely pedestrianised area close by with lovely cafes and bistros. Thankyou for a lovely stay
