The bar has a fun magical vibe to it with a splash of the theatrical, especially the drinks. But the direction felt kind of confused - they do offer dining in but the music is played at such a loud volume that it’s stressful to have a conversation. The drinks were great but the food was kinda mediocre. It’s a good place to hang out if you’re looking for a fun bar but I wouldn’t go there for dinner again.

Brilliant fun and lovely food. The staff are friendly and helpful in navigating the cocktail menu. They are well trained and make the theatre of the drinks magical. The food was delicious and the menu has a good range. I will definitely be coming back!

Love the cocktails! Be warned some are lethal. The atmosphere in here is great, lovely mix of people from all ages etc. the foods pretty good too. Well worth a visit, especially as a group. Toilets are down some steep stairs so be aware of that before booking.

Came for a pre theatre lunch. Great location just a few minutes from either Leicester Square or Covent Garden tube station. Service was fast and the staff friendly. The range of cocktails is brilliant. Food was tasty and there's a wide variety on offer. Booking is essential during busy times.

Staff excellent as always and add to the whole theatre of going. Main courses are sizeable and best value I think. Seats are fairy close together especially the couples seats so just be aware you might not get lots of privacy on some tables. Ladies toilets were not in a great condition which was surprising.

Got quite crowded, and for good reason! Fun place with good drinks. Make a reservation if you want to sit, otherwise you can order a drink and stand at the bar. Good atmosphere for casual drinks and conversation. Bartenders extremely nice and entertaining performance.

Thoroughly recommend a visit - does get a bit busy so do book a table in advance for comfort or you can sit at the bar if there's space and you get to watch the show!

Oh wow! We had such an amazing time there. This place is a must visit. Amazing and yummy food, including plenty of vegan options! We enjoyed several drinks as well, which are just next level. This is not just a place to go for food, your visit is an experience, especially if you are having some cocktails. We will come back for a special occasion. We would also like to praise the staff! Excellent customer service skills and super friendly. We would recommend making a reservation well in advance. We tried to book a table a week ahead and there was no availability in any restaurants around london. We tried our luck as a walk in, with no high hopes, but a lovely staff member did some magic and we were super lucky to get a table.

It was fiiiiiiine. The cocktails were fun and the staff were super useful when it came to allergies with food. If you're looking for some novelty cocktails, then it's worth a visit. The food was underwhelming. I had chicken and waffles. The waffles were hard (the knife couldn't cut them smoothly) and the chicken was mostly bones and also not fried, which feels like a sin. Nice ambience though, so yeah... drinks = sure. Food = nah

Nice experience overall, however the cocktails are small for the price paid. But I guess the price compensate the shows made by the bartenders. They are all great, funny and professional. I went without reservation on a Saturday night so we needed to queue for 15 minutes. Other couple was leaving and they left us the table 👍. Most likely will return!

Just disappointing that at 1pm on a Saturday the 1st 2 choices of cocktail we ordered we couldn't have as they didn't have the stuff to make a Cherry Poppins or a bubble bath. Busy atmosphere for a Tuesday. Sat at the bar. Was served by a bar tender and a trainee. She made our drinks okay but who know whether they were supposed to taste like it did... negroni was half full. I feel I just paid for ice cubes. got drink spilt over us by the same trainee.. cocktails r pricey so be prepared if u want one of those fancy chemistry style drinks.

Fabulous time at the Alchemist yesterday, it was our Daughters 21st Bday, Ellie our waitress was fantastic, explained the cocktails to us, brought out a little extra Bday treat, it was a really fun and different experience to kick our afternoon off. A very warm and attentive team. Def recommend the Mad Hatter for 2, they're not cheap cocktails, and there are no 2-4-1 / happy hours, but for something different and fun its fab.

I am from Belgium and a huge fan and practicer of mixology. I am used to cocktails but here, something magical happens. I discovered new tastes and, I have no words to describe this place. You will be amazed by the choice you have, the quality of products, the theme which is EVERYWHERE and the amazing dynamic staff (I don't know what they eat for breakfast for having so much energy lmao). The food is so great too. So yes, I saw people complaining about the price, but quality and originality worthes it. I am sad to go back home, but I know for sure that I'll go there again as soon as I'll travel to London.

Great venue, staff and drinks but awful use of the walk ins bar area that could seat/ stand alot more people. There should be a ledge around the wall for people so stand by and put their drinks on. Could have tables against the windows aswell. People were just loitering around in the way waiting for a table to free up.

Amazing experience, great drinks and incredible energetic, funny and skilled people behind the bar. The person we were served by was also absolutely wonderful. The drinks were purely magical and served in a theatrical way. After our time slot for a table came to an end we went back to the bar to watch the bartender (the curly moustache guy) and honestly he’s so grate he definitely topped up our evening that was already great. On top of that I feel like we paid next to nothing for all the amazing stuff we’ve had AND I paid with Revolut and got a 20% cash back. We will be back for sure, maybe even tonight haha.

Gorgeous pub, brilliant service! Loved the ambience, they didn't try to blast me out with music so I could actually hear my friends. There's outdoor seating, bar seating, tiny pub table seating, gorgeous comfy dining seating. This place was a treat to visit.

Such a super fun and unique place for cocktails! If you ever want to try a cocktail that boils like a chemistry lab experiment or see a drink change colours like you were practicing potions in Hogwarts, this is the place! Only thing though, they did have a weird draft in one half of the room which is minor really but me and my date both felt it and kept changing seats to escape it lol

I was wandering up and down the lane looking for a place to eat - the theatres had just emptied and most places were quite busy with long waiting times. On the off-chance I popped in here to see if there was room. The place is quite dark inside (but that's part of its spooky appeal) and music was blaring but the waitress managed to find us a clear table off to the side where the music wasn't as loud. Got onto Wifi okay whilst we waited. I tried out their black fish (squid ink added to the batter) n chips, not a great deal on plate but I was hungry and it went down quickly - and wasn't bad value, along with a beer or two. As the service was pretty good (they kept checking back in to refresh drinks) we decided to try out some of their strange cocktails. I was recommended to try a bubbling one, tart with a fresh cut of lime, whereas my colleague tried a hip-flask one (which you get to keep, so the price includes the engraved flask too). Definitely a curio eclectic place, and I'll be returning again soon.

Wonderful cocktail experience in Central London! Despite being a chained store around the UK, each store has their own unique bartenders which makes the experience very unique. On top of the good tasting cocktails, the stunning part of the Alchemist is more of the making of the cocktails. It’s like a show where bartenders are really enjoying themselves. Price is very reasonable too costing less than £12 per cocktail in general. Pub food is also available to order and tasted good as well!

Have heard people mention how good this place was, so popped in while I had a spare hour to see what it was about. We had "The Biblical One" which is a two person cocktail, where they turn cocktail of yellow-ish liquors into a warm red drink. Most of the chemistry was done at the bar so if you're not standing there watching it you'll miss it. It was fun to watch it being made however. The drink itself was incredibly delicious, almost a sweet mulled wine. I can tell you I'll be back just for that. Would be good to come as a group of people and get a show, and if the cocktails were made at the table for show that would be awesome.

Very nice place, drinks are amazing and the food really tasty. My only feedback would be that we feel a little but rushed when the waiter said we have 30 min left and we were still eating our main. We didn't order dessert as we thought we would be over time. Otherwise, I recommend the place.

4.5 BUT minus 1 for the bad handling of the reservation ladies. —> 3.5 Food: 4.0 Service: 5.0+ (really exceptionally nice waitress) Drinks: 5.0 big minus: reservation was made two month ago, they didnt have it and gave us the worst table next to the cashiers desk. As we were starbing we didnt want to wait extra 20-30minutes for another one. Plus the ones from the reservations didn’t apologize or anything, eventhough I showed them the confirmation E-Mail. Usually you offer a drink and apologize in such situations. Therefore I was really disappointed but nevertheless I enjoyed good food (popcorn chicken and shrimp lollipops were amazing!) and spectacular drinks 😊

I liked this place and it’s definitely tick a box on London bucket list! Whilst awaiting to order the drink I was lucky enough that people ordered interesting cocktails in front of me so I could watch small show na the waiting time of 30 mins passed faster. Another issue was quite small sitting area. We came here at 5pm on Saturday and it was already packed, so we felt super lucky to get a table. Took my mum for her 70th birthday. Staff was lovely and gave us recommendation on food and drinks. Cocktails were fantastic, I particularly liked the butter beer. Staff were friendly. The fajitas didn't sizzle and they added spicy sauce to poke bowl (not on menu) which I found surprising. Personally I thought the rice was overcooked but perhaps I have only had poke bowl at one other restaurant so perhaps that's the texture it's meant to have. In any case, the cost of poke bowl was removed from the bill and the staff were kind so I gave the staff an additional £10 tip.

Went to the Alchemist with my friends after finishing my sem 1 exams and we enjoyed our night very much. The cocktails are so cool coming in cute chemistry equipment with cold steam coming out of them that you’ll keep wanting to order more! Loved the Bubblebath cocktail in particular! However it does get quite crowded towards the end of the night and you might not be able to get a proper seating area and end up standing up near the bar. It is very worth it though!

A magical experience, truly 😍 Could not recommend enough!! This place has the look, feel and overall experience down, five stars doesn't feel enough. The atmosphere on a cold and wintry Sunday was warm and inviting. The setting; mythical with Gothic flair, leaning into the Alchemist part of the name. With the every detail taken into account for the utmost credibility. Although very busy, there wasn't a wait for a table of two, and once seated it felt very intimate and cosy. The Cocktails were presented in one of the most interesting and creative ways I've seen, each one with a life of it's own and equal level of theatre and spectacle. All to be chosen from a leather bound Compendium (Potion book). They have a great selection of dishes to choose from, having had the Smoking fajitas and Lamb rump & Kofta I can honestly conclude that this place is the whole package.

What a fun place to visit. If you don't sit at the bar and watch the drinks being made, then you are really missing out. The bartender's like to showboat and it all adds to the fun. No spirit measures, all the drinks are free poured... And the staff are tested regulary to see how skillful they are. You will see bubbles, bongs, smoke and Bunsen burners all in use... Have fun!

Typically good Alchemist drinks, however... the service for our first round was slow and the bartender was juggling an unnecessary amount of orders leaving one of our drinks to sit on the side of the bar so when we got back to the table there was no special affect whosoever. Having been to 2 of the 3 Alchemists in Manchester this one in London is simply not a patch on them in terms of Service, aesthetics and authenticity that you feel in the ones in Manchester. The drinks was still delicious and the atmosphere was fabulous

Lovely place. Staff were attentitive and the Geordie lass who sat us down was incredibly polite. We visited last night (26.4.20) and had an amazing experience at the Alchemist. Milly (Millie? Sorry if my spelling is wrong!) sat us at our table and brought us food and drinks. She made our night - both my partner and I are extremely COVID conscious and she went out of her way to ensure that we would be comfortable, even helping us get a table where we'd be very distanced from the other clients. She even made sure she was aware of our comfort level in terms of how she could handle the food and drinks to make it absolutely certain that we'd be completely at ease. This wasn't even something we had asked for, but she was just extremely conscious of ensuring she didn't make us uncomfortable in any way - it was really sweet and made us feel we could just relax and enjoy our night. The drinks she recommended were delicious and we honestly just enjoyed chatting with her so much. It felt like talking to a friend. After our great experience, I think the Alchemist will become one of our go-to spots in London for after-work drinks. Can't wait to come back and try the other cocktails!

Poor service and attitude from the staff. We arrived 10 minutes into our 15 minute window of arrival for our booked table and was told by the doorman to wait in the entrance hall to be seated for social distancing reasons. We waited, as instructed, behind another couple who had also made a booking for a few minutes. Upon informing the front of house lady of our booking, we were told our table had been given to another party as we were over our 15 minute grace period to arrive. We indicated that we had arrived earlier, but had been waiting for a few minutes in the entrance hall as instructed (the welcoming of waiting patrons was somewhat slow due to the packed restaurant). What followed was a series of shrugs by both the front of house as well as the manager. No attempt was made to seat us elsewhere or accommodate us at the bar temporarily. Ultimately we were turned away. It was inconvenient. Worse was the lie of having given the table to another party because we were late. Not only was this problem caused by the poor communication between the doorman and front of house, but it was also not possible to have given it to someone else after we arrived, because no other party passed us in the entrance hall while we were waiting. Our table was clearly given to another party seconds after our booked time. Greed by the restaurant to turn over tables as fast as possible, perhaps? Needless to say, very disappointed - especially after the lockdown, having booked well in advance and looking forward to our first night out in a month. Reluctant to return to a place that makes no acknowledgement of their mistakes, lies to cover it up and makes no consolation gesture. Edit: having been in contact with the management at the Alchemist regarding the above issue and the easing of lockdown, we were able to re-try the Alchemist experience. Our waitress was lively, the cocktails were novel, the food was tasty and overall, we had a pleasant night out.

I ordered a cocktail and it came with a free metal flask which is cool. However the food, it’s very overpriced and very bland. (Add a little garlic powder and maybe some five spice or chilli powder, you will thank me later). It’s a shame I didn’t bring my Tabasco sauce that day. I carry that everyday with me. Mains were just as bland as well, I basically ordered overprice chicken and chips with a side of coleslaw and the best part of the meal was the coleslaw......the........coleslaw. The chicken was dry and I went through a lot of mayo and ketchup so I can swallow it and the chips were just potato. I would recommend you go to this place for drinks not food. However I think the scheme here is that you have dry overpriced food so it encourages you to drink more so if that’s the case well done but with me,nice try honey!

I visited yesterday for lunch for my 30th birthday with a party of 16 and a infant. I was a bit apprehensive to book in the beginning because there were some bad reviews for large parties. We like the others had to order off the set menu which was fine because there were a lot of options the food was nice and worked out good value for money, the only thing I would feedback is that for the nibbles and sharers we recieved 2 of each which really was not enough for 16 people and we had to ask for more but ideally it would have been better if more came out originally. Our waiter was Josh was amazing and personable and really took care of us. He managed to keep some order within a group so big and did an amazing job with recommendations and really went the extra mile when he entertained my niece with the dry ice. The drinks are on the expensive side but it's all about the drinks and it wouldn't deter me from going back. I would highly recommend to everyone as the drinks are so entertaining and delicious, not acidic as I generally find with cocktails. Thanks Josh for making our visit very memorable:)

As co-manager of « l’alchimiste cocktail bar » in Strasbourg, France, I found it funny to try the English version of our bar. So sure the price is a little bit high but clearly it worth it. Great cocktails and you see a performance when they make them which is great to see & it carries on at the table as most of them come with 2 separate parts which you add yourself from either bubbling zombie brains and prosseco with passion fruit caviar as a chaser in another ! I had a brandy/whiskey combo with a toffee disc over the glass that you smash over the with a spoon but it didn't work out lol had to hit it so hard half my drink went with it across the table! We tried 6 different versions all in assortments of flasks or bongs and they were small most I don't think they are really classed as a cocktail but the price wasn't bad & its about the theatre of it all here and most of them work well so if you want to try something fun then try here!

We had an absolutely amazing time at The Alchemist. We stayed in Covent Garden and were walking by one day, the atmosphere drew us in immediately. The food and drinks were totally worth the change in schedule! Our server, Emily G, was fantastic. She suggested all the perfect drinks and food and her bubbly, sweet personality made it all the more enjoyable! Between my husband and I, we tried 5 different drinks and could not even pick a favorite. (We tried "The Color Changing One", "3.5 oz of Happiness", "Solero", "Roses", and a barrel aged Negroni). For food, we ate the Pork Belly and the Chicken in a Basket. Seriously, never ever had better Chicken "nuggets". Get the Baked Alaska for desert, you will not regret it! The prices were reasonable, atmosphere enjoyable and trendy, and when you reserve a table you can eat away from the bar area so it's a little quieter. We loved it and have already recommended it (and sitting in Emily G's section!!) to many of our friends traveling to London.

The food was great, i had the whipped feta, chicken katsu and a bubblebath cocktail. Only thing, the chicken was a little dry, but the curry sauce made it allright. Le bf's nacho's and black fish and chips were really tasty and goodlooking ;)

One of the things I love about The Alchemist is that you don't have to choose between fancy-looking and great-tasting cocktails. The Colour-Changing One is always a firm favourite, but I'd suggest staying clear of She's Electric... the "thunder air" is definitely not for everyone!

There has been a lot of time and effort put into making the Alchemist an experience rather than just a bar. The atmosphere is extremely welcoming and relaxing with the perfect mood lighting and a great place to hide from the cold wet winters in London. There has been a meticulous attention to detail from the menus to the copper style interior and everything melds together magically like the name suggests. Perfect for a date or a classy night out with friends.

Expensive drinks, but they are very satisfying in terms of taste and aesthetics. Seating is difficult to find if you haven't booked due to its popularity, though, bookings cannot be made for only 2 people.

I like the alchemist and have been to a few different ones now. The only reason this gets 3 stars is that they definitely could have made better use of the space, there just aren't enough tables and there seems to be quite a bit of floor space that could be used. It's always busy anyway but I just think it could be better organised. Aside from that the drinks were of the usual standard on a busy Saturday evening.
