I lived in the local area for six years and this was the best pub in easy walking distance. It had a friendly bar staff, nice atmosphere and good snacks. Definitely worth a visit if you want to pop into an east London boozer.

I love this pub. Thought their beer was very reasonable and a great reason to go. Then I tried their food, which is excellent and turned this into one of my favourite places to go. The chips and gravy is great, and their pan-fried fish of the day was stunning. They have a load of outside space, which is great during Covid.

The black lion is my favourite east end pub & i have been going there for over 40 years as i now live near Southend airport only when i am in the area it has not changed much in all that time but people love the authenticity of it the beer is good the staff are friendly & efficient & Tom the owner will sometimes just sit down & have a chat with you Oh & the food is very good what more could you want from a pub it's puckka says Trevor my local is the Horse & Groom @ Rochford which i will review another time tricky hawk @ live .com

The place is always bright and clean. The staff are also always friendly and very helpful and the beer prices are very competitive!! A special shout out to the lady manager (I think her name is Maya), she always manages to create a great atmosphere during pub hours which is appreciated by new and returning customers. I will definitely go back there again!

This pub looks huge from the outside but it's actually quite small inside. They do have a decent size beer garden for warmer days in London. They usually have a limited selection of guest ales & only one stout on offer, which is good old Guinness. Still NO VEGETARIAN food on the menu (apart from chips) :( Lovely & helpful staff.

Excellent friendly pub. Good choice of drinks. They hosted a lovely wake for a good friend of mine who passed away recently. The staff were lovely, the food was also very good. If you are in the area you should visit.

Went there after Covid lockdown for first social outing. Was reassured by the facilities and staff upon entry. Cleaning facilities and directions at door. Pint of Guinness was lovely. Ordered lunch, Steak and Ale pie, cleaned the plate. Will go again for lunch during the week. Had another pint to round off visit. It lived up to the first one. Alot of TVs to watch sport and there is a beer garden aswell. Worth the walk from Stratford.

It's my bruva In laws local enjoy poping in there for a drink can be a bit dark top bar is brighter tho overall a good old fashion boozer in the east end. ( not many left ) football and horse racing atmosphere and always found very friendly lovely in the summer as nice beer garden

This is the cosy little pub where my husband and I first met in 1970 and it is also the pub my husband and his sister decided to invite family and friends back to reminisce following their mum's passing. The staff were great and very helpful and the knife and fork buffet of home cooked meats, savouries and cold salad dishes were plentiful and absolutely delicious. We certainly won't leave it another 40+ years til we return again

I've been to a lot of pubs in London, and this is firmly one of my top three. The staff are great, they know how to keep beer really well, there's a big selection of draught ales with regular guest beers, the pricing is very reasonable, you can pretty much always get a table, and there's stacks of outside seating.

One of the last great East-London Pubs. A legendary place that is hidden in plain sight. If you are ever in need of a refreshing beverage in Plaistow, don't hesitate to spend your well earned mu-lah in here. You will not be disappointed (except by the food menu - but its a proper pub, not a restaurant you silly billy).

I have come to this place most Thursdays for the past year for tabletop roleplaying games with the Phoenix Games Club, and I'm always happy to be at the Black Lion! It has a comfortable and friendly atmosphere, two separate main bars, a big garden out the back for when the weather's nice, a small covered area outside for when it's not, and the stable bar at back is the wonderful space where we hold our games! The location is great, but beyond that, the staff are a joy to see every week, and the food is very good value for money with generous portions. It's always worth asking for their specials!
