Reviews of The Captain Kidd
m.
Arrived early Monday evening approximately 5:20pm into dim lit quiet atmosphere. Traditional old Wapping pub, lots of history and memorabilia on walls. Bar staff engaged in small friendly conversation whilst taking drink and food order, informed us kitchen opens 6pm, suited us fine. Ordered 1x beef pie meal and 1x fish & chips with mushy peas meal. Sat outside in lovely outside space, enjoyed the Thames Riverside seating. Returned back inside to warm up. At 6pm we were told they were out of beef pie, to order something else. Ordered scampi meal with peas. Meals arrived hot accompanied with tartar sauce, asked for ketchup and hot sauce. Meals were lovely. We shared a sticky toffee pudding with hot custard, good portion. Meals were great quality, value for money ratio reasonable. Overall a pleasant quiet evening tradional meal.

One of the greatest pubs I ever been. Amazing atmosphere of old classic British pub. Very interesting history of that pub. It's not far from there where famous Captain Kidd was hanged. Also the pub is located near Execution dock, where pirates were hanged. Inside you can find a lot of interesting information about pub and captain Kidd. Interior is very classic and beautiful. And the best thing is the view for the Thame River. I will definitely return in summer to enjoy the Riverside garden.
N. N. O.
Ace place. Decent pub garden right next to the Thames, delightful to sit out in while the Sun shine. Fantastic inside with lots of wood and different levels. Had a tasty couple of pints of Samuel Smith's cask ale highly recommended.. Overall a great pub.
l. k.
Brilliant old English style pub! The food was fantastic along with the lager and you can’t beat the view 👍
I. M.
Atmospheric pub on the water in Wapping. There's a big garden Riverside that must be wonderful in Spring/Summer. Had lunch with friends with mixed results. My BLT sandwich was not very nice but my friends meals of fish gougins, and spicy prawns were delicious and plentiful. I will return but maybe have the hot options next time.
K. M. C.
Another fine Sam Smiths pub on the Riverside at Wapping. An old warehouse converted into a pub doing excellent ales ciders and their own wines and spirits. Also does food. Well worth a visit.
A. F.
Only had a coffee and tea here. Under a fiver for both so very reasonable. Looks a great spot and the windows are looking directly onto the Thames. Will be going back to sample the menu and their Cider.
F. P.
The size of the burger and portion of chips was very average, the quality of meet was good. The beer - organic lager was very flat, not sure if it always comes like that. The highlight of our visit there was a view. Overall it was an average experience and will try something different next time.
M. P.
This is a classic pub in the area of Wapping, in London. We only had drinks, so cannot tell you my opinion about food. There is a nice terrace just in front of the river that looks perfect for a sunny day (or, at least, not rainy day). The staff is not very friendly, though, which I thought was a shame.
M. M.
Pub for 4 stars but the 5th star is because it’s Samuel Smith’s pub. The best beer for me. I recommend Wheat beer and cider. Awesome. Very nice place with an outstanding view on Thames.
D. “. B.
Not bad place for a quiet gathering but I think because it's tucked away it doesn't get too busy.
Drinks are on the niche "our own brand is best" side but lovely rum. And for a decent round it's not the priciest place I've been to.
F. M.
Can’t get something more traditional!
Excellent terrace fantastic interior besttt local beer
G. G.
Nice pub at Wapping with a view of rivers Thames. Garden is spacious by the river with a view of Canary Wharf. Perfect for sunny weather. Great selection of beers, food is good. A pub classic.
R. H.
Great pub - lovely view over the Thames, decent beer, not cheap but not overpriced. Good food. Recommended
J. S.
Good bar downstairs with range of Sam Smith's beers. The upstairs restaurant is a missed opportunity - no atmosphere on a Saturday evening. Food was average and a bit disappointing compared to what it used to be.
T. B.
Had a wonderful Sunday lunch - first one in months in the lovely little gem tucked away in Wapping - The Captain Kidd.
Being the first customers of the day at the establishment we were lucky enough to bag the table with the best view (table 11) - served very kindly by a cool guy that was managing the crowd coming in.
Really enjoyed the Sunday lunch - they had 3 options: beef, chicken and vegetarian option (they usually have pork instead of chicken).
Drinks wise it’s not to my taste as there were not very many choices of drinks on the sweeter side, however my fiancé was perfectly happy with the range of lagers they had!
There’s also a lovely outdoor area with views of the river side of London!
D. T.
Another amazing riverside pub. Quieter than the nearby prospect of Whitby but very similar old times vibe. Super nice!
B. C.
I always loved this pub from years ago
The staff were wonderful and the food was delicious
The views are amazing its definitely worth a visit
P. H. (. F.
Had a great time. Prices creeping up.
B. F.
I love this pub. Nicely situated by the Thames. Staff could not be more friendly. Food is tasty and reasonably priced.
S. M.
This pub is not only very old but also has good beer and cider. And the best food in this area that we sampled.
n. a.
Came across this beautiful little pub whilst on a walk about. Beautiful views. Spend an hour or 2 just watching the world go by.
S. S.
An only very slightly tarnished jewel in Wapping’s wonky crown, The Captain Kid is a sensational venue - great views of the river, spacious outdoor seating area, quality ale and reasonably priced food.
The only downsides are the lager (it’s a Samuel Smith pub, so fantastic for bitter or pale ale fans, but dismal for lager drinkers).
It’s also a bit too child friendly (which is great if you have young ones with you but rather less so if you don’t).
These are but minor quibbles though, and all in all there are no finer pubs within miles of this place. Highly recommended.
J. S.
Good bar downstairs with range of Sam Smith's beers. The upstairs restaurant is a missed opportunity - no atmosphere on a Saturday evening. Food was average and a bit disappointing compared to what it used to be.
P. L.
My favourite pub in London. Great views, great food.
N. N.
Nice old pub on the river.Eat inside or out.
Have the Hunters chicken. :)
W. D.
A good pub on the river.. Always worth a visit and you can enjoy decent food with a pint. Beer is always theirs. It is reasonable beer and has the considerable advantage of not being D**m Bar.
R. J.
This is my favourite pub in London. Inside the decor is great and feels like you're inside an old timber ship, or habourside Inn. Outside there's a lovely view of the Thames. And it's a Sam Smiths which is an added bonus. Excellent place
W. W.
Great location for a pub by the Thames, the bay window looks out to the water and the outdoor riverside terrace is big. I had though this was a historic building by the look of the interior, but i think it’s built in the 80s, far more recent than I think.
Definitely a nice pub to return to when I’m in the area again!
W. S.
A typical wonderful English pub, excellent beers and delicious fish and chips! A wonderful view! I highly recommend taking a tour if you happen to wapping😍
R. Z.
Lovely Sam Smith pub with very friendly staff and amazing views of the river. Well priced. Food is not it’s forte, but 5 starts if you go for drinks.
F. H.
Nice pub and decent pint prices.
Sadly the bun of the burger was pretty bad and served cold. The patty was good which makes the whole thing more of a shame.
K. F.
One of my favourite pubs in London. Really beautiful building with a great atmosphere. Not a bad pint selection and friendly staff. Recommend
T. K.
Fantastic space with a great selection of draft beers (all local) and good selection of food and nibbles. I recommend the wheat beer and also the fruit beers if you like a sweeter one. Definitely would go back.
A. D.
Great pub with great view of Thames. Not the usual offering of beers and spirits only better. Pork pies with mustard as a bar snack is a great size dish to the drinks. Warm and friendly atmosphere.
K. W.
Absolutely great pub full of character and located in the idyllic wapping area which is steeped in history. Went here for cocktails on my birthday and wasn't disappointed with either the drinks or the views. Everywhere you look there is a story to be found and history to be uncovered. Bar staff are friendly and prices are fair considering the premium location.
S. C.
Lovely old pub on the river. Large beer garden looking over the Thames. Whenever we are in London we pay a visit 😁😁🍺🍺😁😁
C. '. H.
Beautiful riverside pub with bags of character.
As it is a Sam Smiths pub you will not see any fruit machines, TVs or juke boxes . . . . Just a pub, as it should be.
The only drawback is that if you are after a Fosters/Stella/Guinness or any other branded pint, you will be disappointed.
A Sam Smiths pub only sells Sam Smiths booze.
P. M.
Nice food. Beers really nice and a place to sit outside in front of the river 😍😍
J.
Nice pub, nice surroundings and it's in a lovely quiet part of London. Also nice to sit outside on a sunny day and watch the boats cruise up the Thames. However the beer & spirits are pretty limited & i personally found the only thing drinkable was the cider, though only a couple of them , as they aren't the best either! Prices here have also gone up considerably, since my last visit the year before! So loses two stars for providing inferior alcohol at premium alcohol prices!
A. F.
Hidden little gem in Wapping, that looks out onto the Thames.
It’s a chain, which means it loses a tiny bit of its charm, but it’s still a great spot for a pint and a feed.
Food is affordable and was pretty tasty. The bangers and mash were only £7 but a decent size and some of the better sausages I’ve had in London.
The bar area is massive, but it was surprisingly busy on a Wednesday night. Would be a great spot on a nice summer day with the outdoor seating.
J. D.
A good classic pub with great views across the Thames. This a quiet and chilled place to come on the weekend with getting a seat bring if great ease. The food is your general pub grub, not about to get a Michelin star but does do the job. As a bonus it is also dog friendly 🐕
D. W.
Well priced and well located pub. It's a traditional Sam Smiths so you know it represents good value for money and has a focus on beer, but it does also do a couple of cocktails. Inside it's a nice atmosphere, whilst outside there's plenty of benches with a nice view out over the Thames. Gets very busy when the weather's good, so worth getting there early if it's a sunny day!
V. Z.
Lovely ambience.. Great view. Amazing history... Long wait however worth the wait!!!
T. F.
brilliant pub with outdoor area overlooking the mighty thames river cheap drinks (for london )in the historic area of wapping -take it easy with the sam Smith's -you can easily fall in the river
M. H.
Reasonably priced beers for London in a traditional-styled pub right on the Thames' edge. Early evening it gets crowded with very noisy office people on an after work binge.
R.
Nice looking and cozy place to pop in on your Sunday ride. I liked the fact l could chain my bike and keep an eye on it while on the terrace, nice river view, . The only minus is the luck of no alcoholic lagers, instead I had low alcohol draft beer, 2.7% alc. ( but I broke my own rule of drink and ride) I especially liked the narrow entrance to the pub with the hung rope, must be for those who ask for beer without alcohol.... 😂 Lol
A. L. P.
Been here a few times now. Lovely place, great drinks, but our first few visits were dimmed by the staff. Not very friendly or helpful. Fast forward to our visit today, totally amazing! Our server Charlie was full of beans, super friendly and funny and had the whole garden under control, all by himself it seems! It goes to show how much difference on person can make! Give the boy a raise!
O. O.
> Please like helpful reviews < AMAZING!!! The food, drink, value, service, atmosphere, location, views... everything. Just go there, you won't be disappointed.
A. S.
I would recommend this pub for the nice environment as you have a great view to the river. The service was slightly slower than expected however the taste of the fish and chips was decent.
G. B.
Nice riverside pub. There is ample seating both indoors and outdoors by the river. There is a noose above the entrance to the pub .. apparently people were hanged to death back in the days when that was acceptable :) .. there is only 'house' hard liquor on offer .. so I did not get a JD coke .. but just a Bourbon with coke .. they had a single malt from the highlands ... drinks are inexpensive for the area .. definitely worth a visit
G. H.
Love this pub. Proper beer, proper decor, no fuss.
The pub is Sam Smiths, from Tadcaster in Yorkshire and owned by the same family as John Smiths. The only difference is this is better, and cheaper.
River views are a must, and if you can grab a seat in the sunshine it's all the better. Get a taddy lager and a packet of beefy crisps and spend every weekend here.
M. J.
Lovely pub by the river in Wapping. Great selection of beers
P. K.
Nice little pub for a quiet pint, fantastic views of the river.
V. S.
Lovely river pub, good selection of beers wine.
P. L.
My favourite pub in London. Great views, great food.
n. a.
Came across this beautiful little pub whilst on a walk about. Beautiful views. Spend an hour or 2 just watching the world go by.
S. B.
One of the best pub gardens in London! Although shame to see the Joe Lycett story about the chain owner
P. T.
Fabulous pub, lots of character and history. Didn't eat but food looked Fabulous. Lovely pint of draft pale ale.
V.
Great service and friendly atmosphere. Food was spot on and well worth the money. Looking forward to going back again.
N. D.
Fantastic old riverside pub with long history. Sam Smiths pub, so usual beer and wine offerings. All the favorites on the simple oub menu.
B. N.
A nice riverside pub out in Wapping. You can sit out in the courtyard with river views (the only place to sit during Covid). Staff are.friendly. I had sausage and mash which was a nice warm pub meal on a rather chilly day. With restricted seating the courtyard can get quite busy, so be prepared to queue.
D. P.
Been visiting the Captain Kidd since 2002. Great place to relax without the tourist crowd. Rover view terrace in the summer, cosy wood beam interior in the winter. Only negative point: they don’t serve Guinness :( only Murphy’s Irish Stout (not as good though!)
S. C.
Used to be a coffee warehouse but makes a brewpub...plenty of space with great views of the Thames. Only connection with Captain Kidd is that he was hung at execution dock just a bit further up the Thames.
B. S.
Nice pub on a great spot of the river. Ideal to watch it all go by. Food is pretty good too.
D. M.
Great roast dinner great pub next to the Riverside absoluteanywhere.com
S. M.
A super cool, proper and friendly pub. Loved it
D. D.
Best place on the river Thames, to chill.out and have a fine pint
A. R.
Nice, warm feeling, pub in London. Riverside beer garden and plenty of space inside to sit and drink. Liked it. Solid pub, solid prices (for London). Worth a visit
D.
Great friendly staff. Really nice food, beautiful building. Well worth trying.
L. D.
Great spot for a pint with and excellent view of the river. Reasonable prices too on both food and drink.
N. N.
Nice old pub on the river.Eat inside or out.
Have the Hunters chicken. :)
B. L.
Great pub but only sell one brand of beer. Sam Smith's. Fortunately a very good pint. and the pork pies with mustard were outstanding
J. M. F.
Great river side historic pub/eatery. On line order very swift and tasty and good choice of drinks. Perfect staff thanks. Very interesting area
J. W.
Scenic location on the Thames. Atmospheric with its age and being a Sam Smith's has a decent range of quality beer. Staff aren't overly friendly but it is London.
s. m.
Great visual pub and great location. Since the lockdown they are obviously needing to replenish financial lost. This is totally understandable. The beer price has gone up (now in line with other pubs). The problem is the food prices are the same, the just give you less... so you are left hungry. Much rather then be open and honest and increase the prices but give a full portion. Unless we got kids portions by mistakes (but looking at the other photos so does everyone).
E. L.
A fantastic pub, a personal favourite. Recommend to all.
M. P.
Beautiful pub on the river, plenty of indoor and outdoor space. Huge selection of beers as well
M. A.
This a lovely little pub, right on the water. At night they have fairy lights and the old fashioned design inside makes for a cosy place to have a drink and dinner.
Samuel Adams on tap is always a bonus in my books. Affordable and delicious beverages.
There was some confusion around food orders and bits missing here and there which was disappointing. But overall a nice pub and will return.
F. A.
The beer is Samuel Smith's, it's not bad it's not great. But it's definitely not worth £5/£6 a pint. But the food it's terrible. The burger is definitely a cheep frozen patty. Dry and tasteless. I have never regreted so much spending £10 in a burguer.
D. D.
Very nice pub , with view,to the river
A. T.
Liads of history. It's a Smiths pub so the beer is not your usual fare!!
d. S.
Lovely big pub food good staff were nice to my autistic son today
J. S.
Really nice view however don’t order the Nachos 🤣
M. F.
Great pub in an amazing location, I personally didn't have food but the people I was with enjoyed theirs.
H. L.
For me this place is probably more of a 3.5 but the view and the well abused post and beam framing give it a rugged charm. That, and the Samuel Smith Bitter which is all of 3£25 and delicious!
A. C.
First visit to a pub after lockdown. All seating is alfresco, with beautiful riverside views. Nice selection of ales on offer. Beautifully cooked pub food, served by friendly, knowledgeable staff. Most recommended.
M. K.
A old historical pub, good location but limited choice of beer and ales.
m. l.
I'm very pleased and delighted with the food and drinks served here❤️😋
J. G.
One of the historic Wapping’s pubs.
Tasty food in a lovely atmosphere facing the river Thames.
Always a pleasure to come back
J. W.
Very nice pub and well situated on the river
S. A.
Nice pub. Samuel Smith beers very good
A. L. G.
I love this local pub. The terrace is incredible. It's huge and there's a lot of places in the Riverside to enjoy the views, close to the river police station. Inside you have a range of Samuel Smith's beer and beverages. You cannot go wrong with a organic lager on a sunny day, or a stout on a winter day. Get some sweet chili crisps to match and enjoy the evening !
K.
Great place to sit out by the water. Good service and they've handled COVID restrictions very well. The food is fairly simple but reasonably priced and tasty. Bit of a limited selection of beers which I'd say is the only thing they could improve on but they're priced very cheaply so it's not such an issue.
A.
Awesome beer and view on the river, it’s a good place to escape London noise after a tough working day or on weekends.
J. F.
Lovely picturesque pub with outside seating over looking river. Nice food and friendly staff
T. G.
Lovely bustling pub on a saturday night. Great historical pub
O. M.
The best pub in Wapping!!
One of the few Samuel Smith pubs in London, this one sits right on the river front, with amazing views of the Thames.
It feels old inside as though little has changed since it opened which is incredibly rare for British pubs nowadays.
They only serve Samuel Smiths drinks but there's something for everyone; larger, cider, session beer, ale, soft drinks. With it being Samuel Smiths it's only around £3-4 a pint versus £5-6 everywhere else.
It also boasts a great restaurant upstairs and a big beer terrace outside.
A. F.
One of the best Samuel Smith pubs over looking the river
G. D.
Great pub, in fact one of my favourite ones in London. Always friendly and polite staff, amazing outside area to enjoy the river view and gets busy when sunny. It gathers great clouds, people of all ages, families and the odd tourist who wondered too far away from Tower Hill. Great selection of Samuel Smith beers to all tastes. It can be paired with some pork pie or more substantial food upstairs. Pub is dog friendly
S. M.
Friendly staff, decent prices, standard pub menu. Interior is characterful. Views of the Thames are always good at night though there are some waterside pubs that have slightly better vistas. Often boats obscure the view a bit. Still one of the best pubs on the north side.
M. D.
Perfect Riverside pub. Great food
r. m.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, fantastic views, oh and the beer is good. Trust me you won't be disappointed. Its a Samuel smiths brewery, so they will have their own ales, beers and spirits. Loads of space, wonderful restaurant upstairs and a huge garden overlooking the Thames
F. B.
Very well located traditional pub. Most hand pumped ales were off which was unfortunate. Nice views from beer garden
T. Y.
Great historic, Riverside pub. Nice outdoor area. Good selection of beers, ales. Recommend!
A. Z.
Lovely to sit outside on a sunny day. Staff weren't too happy to top up our water though, alcohol on the other hand they kept on pouring
S.
Very nice riverside pub. It's a very old pub that feels a bit like an old ship. They've got a nice selection of non mainstream beers and there prices are very cheap -a pint is approximately 4 quid. They've a great outside area, which is amazing on sunny days.
P. D.
Lovely traditional British pub steeped in history. Over looking the River Thames a great place for a drink...
D. P.
This friendly historic pub is a very short walk from Wapping overground station (turn left) and worth a visit just for the views across the wide expanses of the Thames at this section of the river (there’s a large outdoors area too). The staff can make good recommendations if you’re unfamiliar with the Samuel Smith’s range of drinks. Best reserve ahead if you’re aiming for a Sunday roast in the upstairs restaurant area as this appears to be a busy and popular spot.
T. t.
Excellent fish and chips! Good value for a large portion of really good quality fish. It's Sam Smith pub. Staff were a little icy but in the grand scheme of things it wasn't all that bad.
M. S.
Lovely pub inside and out, lots of lovely views of the river and a rich history to read about. Drinks are cheap (well, for London!) as it's a Sam Smiths. There's an outdoor area for the summer and a large dining room upstairs. Can usually find somewhere to sit or stand as it's pretty large inside.
Food is mediocre pub food at a slightly high price, but still a nice experience over all.
N. C.
Great place, great view. Food ok, nothing special but well priced for what it was. Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice clean toilets.
C. C.
Great drinks. Friendly staff, lovely atmosphere!! Followed all covid rules so you feel safe, without skimping on customer service. Will definitely be back!
R. F.
One of my favorite London pubs! Quite close to the thames, it has quite a view when warm outside. They also have a great selection of beers including great porters and stouts, which are not that easy to find around. Cozy setting, nice ambiance. They also have a restaurant but I didn't get the chance to try it yet.
R. K.
Great pub was the centre of the universe last night. Widest range of customers from workers of all types on their way home to sophisticates in dinner suits and fine frocks off to town with us in between. Fab history and decor, on the river close to Canary Wharf and Wapping station. Big range of Sam Smith's beers and other products good food, garden on the river, good efficient staff, clean toilets.not over evpensive either.
A. R.
Great pub and location just on Thames, great staff and superb range of beers, including organic. Very pleasurable!
J. M.
A nice riverside pub.
The food is decent and the establishment is lovely.
For beer they have the odd local organic beer which is a bit hard to come by but otherwise is what I would label as “fairly typical” (so not really my thing, I’m more a lover of craft beer).
A place with a lot of history and one of the nicer places in its neighbourhood for a decent but very casual meal requiring no pre-planning. Also family friendly.
Never thought of the staff as “warm and friendly” but perfectly nice and professional.
Been several times and will go several more, certainly.
M. S. (.
A big boozer with views of the Thames, but a limited range of food.
L. D.
Captain Kidd is one of my favourite places in London when the sun is shining. The outdoor seating overlooks the River Thames, with different table sizes to suit a variety of groups. As the bar is a Samuel Smiths, you won't get any big brand drinks here but their own brand beers and wines are great.
L. X.
Absolutely in love with this pub, such friendly owners always in the pub to greet you. We have just had a steak and ale pie and hunters chicken and as always, always deliver their great food. The fish and chips is what my partner always likes and is to die for however today we tried something different. They really deserve more reviews, what an atmosphere! The ales are so tasty and good proper beer! Five stars however deserve 10! Thank you guys!!!
C. M.
The captain kid is a great pub on price. The beers are good and it has a fantastic beer garden. Probably the second best in Wapping, I wouldn't go for food here as there are better options locally. Or a little further afield. The reason the kid only gets 3 stars is due to the frequency of rude encounters my parties have had with some of the staff. Though this isn't enough to deter us from going back.
N.
A super pub in a great neighborhood. We felt very welcome there and the lagers are great!! There were a lot of locals and it has a real neighborhood vibe. The price of the beer is reasonable as well. A real gem. The neighborhood is quiet and quaint. It is also close to an overground metro stop, so really easy to get there. Highly recommend it!!
A. E.
So nice to find a pub uncursed by piped music. If only other pubs would realise that this is what most people want.
I've been several times and will be back again this month. Friendly helpful landlord; competent cheerful staff; limited choice of ale but well kept; decent food as well.
All this with a great view of the River.
B. W.
Great pub with awesome views of the Thames!!
U. P.
Brilliant place by the Thames and amazing local brew. Prices are very affordable.
N. M.
Perfect location, perfect backstreet pub. London at its best.
A.
Very friendly local, non-chain pub with exceptional value for money and lovely waterside views. With mains for £9-11 at time of writing, I challenge anyone to find a similar pub in Central London which can beat their combination of service and price. Myself and 13 guests visited here after a guided walk and we will definitely be coming again if we have another walk or event in the area.
N. E.
A nice pint of Sam Smiths and the price was really good.
F. F. R.
5 star
Lucky to have this wonderful riverside pub near me. Favourite whatever the weather. The owners are friendly, always say hello and have a chat. Plus so are many of the locals who drink there.
Never gets crazy busy, great if you want to have a chat, drink and a seat on a weekend.
Love that they have updated the menu with loads of choices for all, reasonable prices, plus you can now have your food outside, as well as in the upstairs dining room.
I. S.
One of my favourite pubs in the whole of London! It's full of character, history and charm.
Beautiful outdoor terrace right by the river.
They sell their own brew, which is absolutely delicious and great variety! The food was pretty amazing too. Very helpful and welcoming staff.
The only issue, there was no where around the pub to lock the bike.
D. C.
Lovely pub right next to the Thames in Wapping. It's a Sam Smith's pub, so a beer drinkers delight, with lots of options on tap and in bottles. When I was there only one white and one red wine available so probably not so good for wine drinkers. A large outdoor seating area gives good views up and down the river.
R. A.
Great outdoors area facing the Thames. I have only been there for drinks so I haven't sampled the food will post again when I do. Their chips smell lovely (someone at another table had some) so I definitely need to try those. I hope they live up to their aroma 😁
A. A.
It's a good location right there on the wharf and the Thames your back garden view. Close to train network. The pub is an olde one. The Samuel Smith beers, ales, cider are the choice. So it leaves a bit to be desired for variety. It has a twist no electronics of any kind. In today's society it is refreshing but then narrows the clientele somewhat. If that's your tipple the the Captain is the place for you
V. M.
One of the best pubs in London, in my opinion, and absolutely worth the visit. In winter, the inside is cozy and warm, and in summer, it's worth going and fighting for a table outside. Great views of the river, chilled atmosphere, good staff, and good drinks selection
A. M.
Classic Sam Smiths pub. Beer was excellent as always. Reasonably priced. Food looked good, and reasonably priced. Recommended.
C. C.
Great atmosphere and view overlooking the Thames and Canary wharf. The outside terrace is beautiful. Reasonable prices for beers.
However, I wouldn't recommend for food. When I last tried the food a few years ago I want too impressed.
L. P.
Great location. Food not bad and v reasonably priced. There's no app for ordering food and the queue to order was v long with very few people wearing masks.
P. H. (. F.
Had a great time. Prices creeping up.
S. H.
fantastic old English pub with superb prices and great river views. Large terrace and two floors for dining and drinking
High quality food
They use common sense with covid restrictions, something lacking in other london establishments
L. R.
Visited as a group.in week. Was very taken by this pub - food, staff and venue all great.
R. F.
Amazing river views from the beer garden and good place for a pint or two
D. M.
Without doubt the best pub in Wapping. I would have given it 5 stars if the price of pints and G&Ts had actually stayed the same. It used to be an absolute steal but now given the pandemic and tight margins it's about the same price as everywhere else. Shame.
L. K.
Great service and you go for the rotherhithe view. Nothing special in term of food but it’s a great place to meet. Service was really nice and got attention, thx
R. B.
Lovely pub. Great views of the good side of the river. Locals can be a bit funny that your in their pub but dont let that put you off, get your drinks order decent grub then sit down and enjoy. Very nice place with some history and worth a visit, tick list pub pf London.
E.
GREAT VIEWS, decent beer too, best place to get a table last minute without a booking on the Thames
D. M.
Great pub with a very rich historic past dedicated to the notorious plunderer William Kids, who was hanged at the gallows Execution Dock.
Serves non-traditional beers like Sam Smith's beer and the food is fantastic in the pub. Didn't get a chance to try the restaurant food - definitely will do next time. Large outdoor beer garden that faces the riverside which is perfect on a summers day.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. They brought out water and snacks for the dogs we were walking that day.
The Captain Kidd was voted as one of the best in Limehouse and Wapping and is only a stone's throw from Tower Bridge and Wapping station.
M. C.
We had a good pie and mash in the restaurant upstairs. The view from the table was amazing. Beer was good. A good selection of bottled Sam Smith beers but only one ale on. I guess they have a bigger selection of real ales in the Summer. Friendly efficient staff. We will return next time we are in the East end. Thank you.
P. M. H. S.
Love the location of this pub, it's great for a lazy weekend afternoon drink. If the weather is good you can sit in the garden. If it's bad you can sit inside and watch the river. Plus the drinks are reasonably priced and are of nice quality as it is a Samuel Smith's franchise.
D. P.
I have lived in the area for over a year and always seemed to miss this pub as it is set back a little bit, I seemed to have been missing one of the best pubs in the area!
Firstly, it is a Sam Smiths, so that means you get cheap prices, random versions of your favourite drinks, get charged to use your card, with no minimum fee.
The actual pub, has an amazing entrance, as you walk through the massive doors, the bar area is straight ahead of you, the place is open and lots of light.
They have a nice big open area to look at the amazing view of the Thames and in the Summer you get a good bit of sunshine. There was a lot of cyclists there, I assuming having a drink after doing the Thames Path.
I am told the food is amazing, so I will be trying that on my next visit!
J. K.
Probably my second favorite sam smith pub. The barkeep could have been a little nicer. This pub is very nice, but not as old as you may think, built in 1980. I love the outdoor area with the riverfront views. Really nice spot. The kitchen is closed on Mondays (or Tuesday after a bank holiday).
O. S.
Large pub with a lot of space in their riverfront garden. They serve Samuel Smiths cider and weat beer which is a must try! Staff was ok, but not really welcoming.
R. S.
This is our works local, many happy Thursday evenings spent after work with the team, otherwise known as the Wapping Watch, love the beer especially the organic 🍺, staff friendly, and we even have our usual meeting point upstairs. Good place relaxing atmosphere or and the food ain't half bad for good measure.
P. F.
Good beer but lacks atmosphere
S. P.
Magnificent pub right on the north bank of the Thames at Wapping. An atmospheric location for a historic pub.
Plenty of room both indoors and outside if you want to watch the boats going by on the river.
Lots of 'stairs' down from the High Street, east and west of the pub, where you can get down onto the gravel beach of the Thames at low tide. You can pretend you're a convict about to be deported to Australia ... as they were, from around here.
Good menu of traditional pub fare, and a nice welcome. It's a Samuel Smith pub, so the beer is exceptionally good value by London's standards. Many people will visit this pub as part of a mini crawl also taking in the Prospect of Whitby and Town of Ramsgate pubs - one either side of the Capt. Kidd. The beer will be substantially cheaper here than in either of those other two.
Highly recommended for a visit.
L.
Wonderful Samual Smith establishment, with plenty of outdoor seating right by the Thames. Food looked good too!
M. L.
Great location, and many pirates ooo arrrr nice rum cocktail dark n stormy
J. R.
Really nice staff, very friendly with a great garden area backed onto the river. Reasonable prices
C. H.
Probably my favourite of the pubs along this section of the Thames in Wapping. The food is pretty good, service isn't too bad and it's got a nice big outdoor seating area with river views. My only gripes are that they charge a fee for all card transactions, and that the kitchen closes at 9pm even on Friday and Saturday. Otherwise, nice pub.
J. F.
Affordable food and drink in the heart of London is hard to come by. Food was great, large range of drinks that I enjoyed trying. The service was really nice. We visited twice over two days: one time for a late night drinks event and the other at midday for some lunch. Will definitely go here again!
S. W.
Nice interior and view. Sam Smith's pub, so the usual good selection. There are places to sit both inside and out. Upstairs is usually used for dining. Lunch stops serving at 2pm (June 2019)
W. B.
For covid you know have to wait at the entrance to the main bar to be welcomed by a member of staff. Soap dispensers are available to clean your hands.
Name and contact details weren't requested for NHS Test and Trace - is that being ignored now?
The route to the beer garden is through the centre side doors, and to order drinks at the bar you have to re-enter by the riverside doorway and wait to be called for your turn and, after getting your drinks, return to the garden through the centre doorway.
Leaving the pub garden you go to the exit near the street entrance.
J. C.
This pub is everything a good pub should be. Traditional decor, really top quality beer, amazing food and a great atmosphere. Throw in the Riverside view and the very reasonable pricing and you genuinely have my favourite pub anywhere. Just please don't go - I want to keep it to myself... 😂
M. C.
It's a nice Samuel smith pub on the waterfront. Foods and drinks are good value, they got Alpine lager, which I'm always happy to drink, however they do have other drinks.
Staff are friendly and a it has cosy atmosphere.
Give more chips with the burgers please, not a garnish of chips grrrrr.
R. P.
Nice Samuel Smith's pub. Great beer garden and some seats overlooking the thames. For a cold winters day I'd prefer the Prospect of Whitby but in summer it's great outdoors having a few beers overlooking the Thames.
J. D.
Great place with a river view. Perfect in warm summer days, with good beers and food.
J. W.
Decent hidden gem, not too pricey.
T. M.
What a great discovery this was... beautiful entrance that feels so Christmasy as they have lit up the trees. It's a quiet pub with beautiful original features and quirky props. Overlooking the river it's quite romantic also. Really nice place to drink relax and enjoy great food too.
J. H.
A great Sam Smith's pub and what a great location on the banks of the river looking towards canary wharf. The beer garden is massive for a London pub, with lots of tables outside. If it's a hot sunny day you need to get there early for the best tables and chairs.
F. M.
I have always loved this pub. It’s a great experience with a great riverside garden. I always chose to have this pub reserved for the place to meet up with friends who I haven’t seen in a while. The only downside I have is that the hours they serve their delicious food is not advertised. I can never remember the hours they serve food and wish it would be advertised on their website in google. I have wanted to come for food but have come too early or too late.
R. D.
A traditional British pub atmosphere with a nice backyard overlooking the river, this argument alone makes it worth going!
A friendly atmosphere, friendly and busy but not packed (which is a good thing!), this place is usually filled with locals (I was one of them).
Drink-wise, it's just a normal (and affordable) Samuel Smith pub, the drinks are cheap and quite good except the stout (I'm quite a Guinness fan but their stout isn't suited to my taste).
I have a soft spot for the organic lager or the fruity bottled beers :)
If the Cap Kidd reads this review: Can you please replace the hand-dryer in the men's room? I'm pretty sure it's been dead for a few years now.
m. s.
Lovely historic riverside pub with nice terrace overlooking the river. Sam Smiths owned, therefore only one cask ale, but at a good price, augmented by a large range of their own keg beers. cheap food. Well worth a visit
T. H.
Great old pub on the side of the Thames, plenty of outside seating for the summer, cosy for the winter. Samuel Smith's pub, so booze is cheap. They also make food, but I've never tried it myself. I've been coming here for 12 years.
A. m.
Beer of great value all their own brewery/brands, great location and views. It would be a 4 or 5 stars if their food was any good.
Visited on Sunday, told the kitchen was closing before 4 o'clock even tho it was advertised on signs that the kitchen closes at 4.30...
Upon ordering a pie from the menu, the pie arrived heated in a microwave which make the filling totally dry and the pastry dire and soggy why ruin a pie that way, the gravy was made from powder or granules, still like a yelly and with a horrible flavour, cooking the pie in 10/15m in an oven will have prevented this. I tried a burger instead, no sauce, beef overcooked served with Luke warm frozen chips. It's clear that the chef has lost of his love food and cooking a real shame.
a. B.
Quaint little Thames-side pub in Wapping. Good Food, and drinks. Its a Sam Smith's pub, so no branded items, but the organic beer was very nice.
M. A.
On the plus side it's a lovely pub, very nicely decorated, right on the Thames, nice garden - great for the summer. However, went for Sunday lunch it was very poor. Small stingy servings (wow, two whole small roast potatoes!) of very average grub. Probably best to stick to drinks.
R. T.
Sixth pub of the crawl.
Don't be put off by the alley way, it's not rape alley, it's Sam Smith alley! You won't find your regular beers here but you will find nice alternatives. Very much sophisticated, with lots of seating areas and a decent view of the river. Friendly bar staff and a warm environment, would visit again.
The river terrace is great, apparently. It's too cold for a venture outside so will have to take their word for it.
N. K.
Amazing quality food, great atmosphere and lovely staff members would definitely go again.
N. F.
This pub is lovely, with a friendly staff. Relaxing with rreat views. Unfortunately, Sunday lunch was served a little cold. Vegetables a little too soft but overall I didn't worry, as I was with good company.
S. A.
Huge pub with a big Thames-side terrace. For tradition and character, the other pubs further down the river are better, but this is one of the best for actually getting a river view. San Smith's, so cheap too
D. P.
Stunning pub, perfect for any sunny day you have off!
W. G.
Great pub and the guy behind the bar there with the top knot is a lad. Always gives fantastic customer service and can poor a good pint. Decent block behind a decent bar.
T. g.
Nice friendly pub with lovely river view
K. M.
Reasonably priced beer. But limited selection of 'real ales'. Good size river and south facing outdoor terrace - great in sunny summer months. Congenial ambience. Food offer more than acceptable and reasonably priced for this part of London. Workaday service. Easily accessible from Wapping Overground station.
Would I patronise again ? Yes.
M. D.
Wonderful real pub. Excellent beer as can be expected with Samuel Smith. And even better prices. The setting is fantastic. Right on the river in an excellent building. The entrance courtyard is my favourite.
D. W.
Great beers, great staff and a fantastic atmosphere. Absolutely love this pub
S. A.
Go there when it’s sunny and sit on their outside area !! It’s just so peaceful - thinking that I walked there from Watney Market in Shadwell where it’s just so hectic.
Great food as well :)
And a good selection of beers - even though I could not drink since it was my working hours.
Plus staff is very friendly and were okay with me Earing my own packed lunch.
The inside of the pub looks reminds me of a pirate ship and their toilets look like they will lead to a dungeon. I’m sure it is a very historical pub.
N. D.
This pub is very spacious with garden which has view over the river. It is ideal for sunny days. Their selection of drinks and beers is very good. It can get really but still worth a go!
J. H.
Amazing views over the Thames and very well priced beer.
J. B.
Roast dinner was good although there was pepper added to everything which may not be everyone's cup of tea. High chair and kids menu were good though steps mean better to leave pram at home. My sister enjoyed the Veggie Wellington but wished it had cheese. friendly staff and quick service.
V. P.
If it wasn't for the staff I would have given this 5 stars. The place is lovely but the staff were so moody! I tried to buy them a drink and got turned down numerous times! You genuinely felt that you were in their living room and getting in their way.
Such a shame as the place is beautiful and such a wonderful place to spend an evening. Sam Smith's again have gained a beautiful drinking spot. But they need to sort out their staff.
C. U.
Really nice old fashioned pub just outside of the square mile. Very oldie worldie, with a great beer garden overlooking the river. Although one thing to note is it's a Sam Smiths pub so although you can get pretty much any type of drink the selection on offer is limited to Sam Smiths. No Amstel or Peroni if you know what I mean.
m. s.
Wonderfully located little pub right next to the Thames. The ambience is great and the view of the river perfect. Good beers and they also have a little open area to have a smoke.
L. B.
Wonderful pub with great history and views on the Thames.
T. J.
A tranquil spot for a beer on the Thames and a completely different perspective on London. Also a Sam Smith's brewery pub, so serving good honest Yorkshire brews which are very reasonable. Try a nut brown ale if you're feeling prosperous.
T. N.
Lovely cosy pub on the thames
D. W.
Beautiful Sam Smith’s pub in Limehouse.
It’s right on the river so perfect for summer nights. It has a pretty good beer garden. Worth a visit.
D.
Good riverside pub, good service from friendly staff. Good choice of beers. Excellent terrace with views along the Thames. Can be dramatic scenes when the river police go into action.
R. F.
Great Sam Smiths pub with a garden on the Thames. The staff are friendly and the beers are lush. Gets busy after work on Friday and when the sun's out. But there's plenty of space inside.
R. H.
Lovely staff, burger was amazing, view was beautiful and the cider was lush! It’s a hidden gem!
D. A.
A beautiful pub sitting on the Thames in Wapping. The Captain Kidd is a Sam Smiths pub so drinks prices are fairly cheap. The beer garden on the river is fantastic for a sunny day and the inside of the pub also has window seats sitting over the river. The food is standard pub grub, nothing special but the location, cheap drinks and feel of this wonderful pub make up for it.
c. t.
My husband and I lunched here today. Really lovely British Sunday Roast Beef. My husband had the Steak and Kidney Pie which he thought very good. We shared a Sticky Toffee Pudding which we thought was delightful. We booked ahead and was given a table by the window with interesting view. Will be back. The service was warm and friendly.
One request would be for coat hooks to be fitted in the Ladies toilet cubicles. Nowhere to hang handbag or coat!
Cheryl.
A. B.
Very nice views of the Thames from the windows and from the terrace, beautifully restored period building with cool interior. Decent fish and chips and inexpensive drinks.
A. F.
Nice local pub with traditional ales.
D. F.
Staff seemed uninterested in any customer, beer tasted off
F. M.
Amazing views of Thames and the history of the surrounding area a d the pub itself priceless
M. D.
Really good Sam Smith's pub just by the river. Good atmosphere, and great view from upstairs onto the river Thames
K. P.
Awesome lockdown experience. They have a one way goin in/out system and a queueing to order system which is great. No crowd at the bar, super comfy ordering and its not that loud as usual so easier to talk. Super friendly staff :)
O. W.
Venue is great but the choices of beer are poor
C. B.
Pleasant lunch with friends. Excellent bitter and IPA, good BLT, beautiful sticky toffee pudding, smooth coffee. Thames at high tide, plenty of river traffic. Quality.
J. C.
This is a Sam Smith's pub so it has with all the usual drinks that come with that. It's a good size downstairs and upstairs with a lovely seating area right on the Thames. Lovely spot.
M. N.
Love this pub, been a few times and the beers are absolutely amazing and the food is decent. Atmosphere is cost and very inviting. Highly recommend.
L. W.
Brilliant!!! Staff amazing! Service great. Food delicious. Definitely returning.
S. B.
Nice location and Sam Smiths brewery so no major branded beers or spirits but lager is fine and great view up the Thames. Bar staff are (currently) great.
A. S.
Lovely day to look out over the Thames. Friendly staff and well kept beer.
S. S.
Another fantastic riverside pub in this area of London. Plus, being a Samuel Smith pub, you can look forward to some excellent prices. The Captain Kidd is quite a large pub, including a riverside terrace and a great atmosphere, so you're unlikely to be disappointed.
M. H.
Great food, decent prices and a brilliant view of the Thames. The selection of beer was really good too
B. M.
Nice view to the river, and tasty lager selection.
S. K.
Perfect riverside pub selling Sam Smiths larger. Organic beer was good as was the venison burger. Lovely views over Bermondsey and rotherhithe.
A. S.
Very nice pub in an amazing secluded location. One of the best places to have a quite drink on a weekday. Also offers food, pizza.
G. R.
Don't walk pass it, historical atmosphere, nice.
M. U.
Great location right on the river. Samuel Smith house so the beer is as slways 1st class. Relaxed atmosphere . Nice easy walk from Tower Bridge
J. H.
Sam Smith's pub by the side of the river in East London. A good pub to include on a crawl along the North bank here, although I think my favourite has to be the Grapes. That said, there's a lot more outside space here than the Grapes, and maybe even more than the Prospect of Whitby - so if you're hoping to sit out and enjoy being by the river this could be a safer bet. Some nice exposed beams inside, although it's unclear how old this place is - from the style of the beams I suspect a conversion from some other previous use - possibly even a small warehouse.
A. J.
Good food with nice views of the river, friendly staff
J. B.
Part of the long pub crawl between St Kats and Limehouse docks. Open space for drinks and snacks.
P. R.
Nice garden that overlooks the river Thames. They do food which looked good and had friendly bar staff. Good location also and the architecture round there is lovely
A. F.
One of londons hidden gems! Amazing organic largers and in house brew . Very reasonably priced at 4.50 a pint. Beautiful views of the thames from their outdoor area. I cannot recommend it enough.
P. T.
A great, spacious, dog friendly Sam Smith's pub with 2 extra floors for private parties. The pub offers nice views over the Thames. Serves the same ol' Sam Smith's drinks.
J. R.
A gorgeous looking public house in a wonderful location serving a good selection of food - with an even better selection of drinks!
I should add however that this brilliant establishment is totally letdown by the fact that the staff are not at all welcoming and as a couple visiting on a Sunday lunchtime, we felt that we were an inconvenience...
Now, granted it was very quiet at that time and I would of course understand if the staff were somewhat demotivated by this - that being said; perhaps there is a reason that such a remarkable public house such as the Kidd has a low level of customers at such an hour... The pub down the road was quite busy actually...
I will not be visiting again any time soon; which is a shame - because I feel the Kidd has lots of potential.
A. W.
Great pub in a great location, you can hear the waters lapping underneath as ships go by. Superb local and sundowner spot.
T. Y.
This pub isn't quite small enough to be called 'cosy', but also isn't big enough to be overwhelming either. Drinks are expensive but not more expensive than the London standard. Being located by the river gives it a huge bonus, especially in the summer!
R. A.
My partner and I visited for an evening meal and were bowled over with the service. Mike was an exemplary host, couldn't do enough to make us comfortable. We will certainly be back for a second and third helping! What a great night out it was! Ray.
J. D.
The Captain Kidd did us proud today serving 20 us many taking the Christmas lunch option. Food hot and good, enjoyed by all. Very good location and staff looked after us very well. Thank you.
L. C.
A beautiful pub located with views of the river and a spacious outdoor area for summer days. On the inside the brickwork creates a nice atmosphere and the prices are fairly reasonable.
C. r.
Despite initial delay getting served due to shift changes everything went smooth after, beer very good and subsequent service excellent. Did not eat. Busy but controlled re covid rules.
c.
Amazing views and beer garden. Really good Samuel Smiths pub with a good selection of beers. Food is pretty bland though but you wouldn't come here to eat.
M. P.
Good prices for booze, nice food (but the kitchen is very rarely open) and a lovely view.
If kitchen isnt open go round the corner and get fish and chips and they don't seem to mind.
V. W.
Really nice atmosphere and caring staff.
E. N.
Incredible pub! Bartender Charlie was so nice and had such great stories about the pub's property. Drinks delicious, atmosphere magical!
N. S.
One of my favourite pubs in the area. Plenty of room, a great selection of beers and a brilliant outdoor, riverside section with plenty of tables/seats
M. S.
This pub is great for a sunday drinks or any day of the week for that matter, fridays get busy but there is lot's of space and there is a beer garden that is right on the river. It is a Samuel Smiths Pub so beer is very cheap compared to anywhere else in London, cheapest being the bitter (£2.80) and cider being the most expensive (£3.90) you will pay a lot more for spirits!
This pub is ideal for meeting up with friends, pub crawl, or a quite pint.
Even better in the sun.
A. K.
Sam Smith's pub with a great feel and riverside views
N. H.
Loved the views. Beer = Sam Smiths and was well priced. Food was good for pub food but nothing inspiring. Would come again and book table to gain access to the restaurant window seats.
A. K.
One of the best pubs around Wapping, along the Thames. Try the chocolate stout or one of the fruity beers. You can sit outside or in the winter you can enjoy the river view by sitting in the windows above the Thames.
A. L.
First time in Wapping and first pub to visit right on the Thames. It's multi-storey pub with an observation deck (sadly closed when I was there). The ground floor is the main pub area, first floor is the restaurant with a varied menu that has a vegan & vegetarian section - yes please! My edamame & quinoa burger with fries wasn't bad but I would have preferred the buns toasted. The chips were ok, I finished it all. Most people had the pies, but I understand the gravy was too heavy in the flour department. Apart from that the pub is pure classic and well looked after with comfortable seating arrangement and lots of natural light with a good selection of drinks including port, stout, wines and a whole lotta beer.
Y. 4.
Great pub and always busy. Some of the punters are a little upper class drunk student types though.
By coincidence I visited another pub in the chain this weekend and beer was £2.02 a pint. Over double at the Kidd
N. W.
Sam Smiths pub right on the river with an appropriately nautical feel. You can enjoy the river scenes safe from the elements inside the pub or on the picnic tables outside if you don't mind eating your own hair.
K. H.
Samuel Smith's is a particular kind of chain pub. All drinks they do are their own, and their unique form of PR (in 2019 having the CEO ban all kinds of electronic devices, having earlier mandated a policy of no swearing) means that the combination of historic sites and the above results in something different from the norm.
If you are into your beers, the imperial stout in bottles is very much worth a try.
M. F.
Great location on the Riverside and lovely selection of unique larger, ale and beer.
J. J.
Nice and peaceful. A River Thames front pub. Craft beer pub sells fruit flavour beer that I didn't try. Met friends there easy to just sit and chat
S. M.
Great beer garden with beautiful river views. Interiors are amazing too - proper old English pub. Beers are great too. One of the best pubs in Wapping!
T. D.
Like many Samuel Smiths pubs, this place feels a little stark and somewhat tired. Affordable beers however, and good views across the Thames.
J. G.
Pretty views of the river, big terrace, lots of space inside too and cheap booze! Wapping is a beautiful area and this pub is my go to for chill drinks on a nice day.
B. F. K.
Love this pub by the Thames. Cute and cosy, in the winter with a lovely outdoor space in the summer. Recently ate there too and the food was great.
L. G.
Exceptional view of the river at the back of the pub with a sad heart wrenching story 💔 😞 of what happened to Captain Kidd
J. J.
A favourite spot to bring people for a real pub experience. I like the 'no device usage' policy they impose, taking pubs back to what they should be. A social environment!
P. C.
Fab Sam Smiths pub by the Thames. Good selection of drinks and nice staff. Fantastic terrace with unrivalled views over the river.
B. J.
If you like historic pubs then this definitely one for you. The Captain Kidd is a great little pub, and is one of the few places in central(ish) London where you can expect to get an outdoor spot by the river even on a warm summer's day.
Interesting fact: The Captain Kidd is one of the few pubs in Wapping which lay claim to being on the site of the old 'Execution Dock', where for centuries pirates were publicly hung.
R. N.
Great riverside pub. Very reasonable prices for drinks as it's a sam smith pub. Also had a fantastic fish and chips. Can't wait to be back!
Y. K.
Do not come here for food, drinks and riverside views only! I'm still not sure what the meat in my roast dinner was. 3 of us tasted it, 3 different guesses were offered... It was meant to be pork, but was entirely dissimilar to any I've ever had! Feeble roast potatoes, sad watery veg. The beef was good only insofar as the calories expanded cutting it seemed to balance the intake.
Stick to the beer.
X. E.
This pub has a nice menu with a reasonable price tag. Staff are nice and friendly and you can enjoy a nice river view while you eat. There is a pub on the main floor and a resturant on the 1st and second floors!
R. S.
Lovely pub with great history and great to add to a mini-crawl with the Mayflower, Prospect of Whitby, The Grapes and Town of Ramsgate. Sam Smiths pub and one of the cheapest rounds you'll ever buy in London.
K. H.
Nice pub with a fab location and relaxing feel. Unfortunately kitchen was closed when we were there and staff were a little too abrupt to feel completely relaxed. However i always like a samuel smiths for value so would return.
R. L.
I always enjoy my visit to this pub. Good selection of beer, nice surroundings and lovely people.
R. G.
Lovely pub, filled with friendly locals who told me about the pubs history of Captain Kidd and execution dock. Very cosy, didn’t try the food.
B. S.
Genuine Pirate Pub! Loads of history. It looks good inside and a good size patio outside but it's a Sam Smiths pub and it's just not my thing. If you are in Wapping it's a safe choice.
T. O.
The best of the three pubs along this stretch of the river - big outdoor space and good for locals and tourists alike. Oh, and it's Sam Smiths which means cheap beer!
K. B.
Pints good, location very good, food unpleasant (i had the mac and cheese). Would visit again if only going for drinks 🍸
t.
Relaxed atmosphere and even though it took a while to get our meals they were delicious.
D. G. M.
I was disappointed on my visit here, as much of the historical fabric of the building has been removed. The drinks selection was okay but the best thing were the views along the River Thames.
L. H.
Good location, decent price beer what with it being a Sam Smith's. Good outside area. Bar service was a bit slow and surly. Food was average but it's a pub so you get what you pay for
A. S.
Great pub with an outside seating with a view on the river (can get a bit windy there of course). Haven't spent much time inside but the atmosphere seems pretty cosy and the staff are very friendly.
M. F.
Real life 18th Century experience.... I.e. no TV during the World Cup, sticky seats and tables, and limited choice of food especially for kids
I can't believe I found what must have been the only pub in England not showing the last-16 game of the World cup vs Colombia. I was shocked.
Food tastes nice and thebTaddys pint was 5/5
S. G.
Sunday roasts are fantastic, beautiful views of the river and reasonably priced drinks. Close walking distance of Wapping Overground station, would highly recommend to all.
N. H.
Sammy smiths pub which isn't great for me as i don't like their beers but a great location, lovely pub and they do have nice wine! Very popular place due to riverside location
F. J.
Great views by the Thames, plus Sam Smith's beers
R. R.
Beautiful views of the Thames river. Very cosy. It's a Stan Smith so not too expensive. They have a large beer garden overlooking the river

Really cool place with a big outside space. Just by the river. The service however wasn't good, they served a flat beer and when I complained and asked to exchange for a new one they just said that's that way it is which I know it's not true because I always order the same...

Staff very nice and friendly, have us free milk for the little one which was lovely. Great view of the river but, food was average at best.
M. W.
Nice cosy pub with a great patio for the sunny days. Pints are pretty cheap if you know what to order, can get 3 for under a tenner and it's good stuff. Very nice!

Great big Pub Garden overlooking the Thames. Decent pub grub and the typical Sam Smiths drinks. Spacious and yet still quite cosy. Awesome.

Another great choice for a pub near the wapping area. The pub food here is one of the best I have had in ages. Simply delicious.
Must go if you are walking down the Thames.

Nice pub. Great view of the river. Only thing that was a down side was a group of guys shouting and swearing in the corner. Over powering anyone else talking.

Great food, great beer & friendly staff

Excellent meeting spot. We all love it. I'm from out of town and would not choose anywhere else. We had the best time this Easter, thanks to the marvellous staff.
We will be back.
Thanks so much

Good beer, reasonable price for a pub with a river view in London. Does not always do food which can be a bit of a let down.

Lovely riverside pub. Large outside area and good selection of Samual Smiths beers. One of my favourite spots in London.

Lovely historic riverside pub with nice terrace overlooking the river. Sam Smiths owned, therefore only one cask ale, but at a good price, augmented by a large range of their own keg beers. cheap food. Well worth a visit

This pub is lovely, with a friendly staff. Relaxing with rreat views. Unfortunately, Sunday lunch was served a little cold. Vegetables a little too soft but overall I didn't worry, as I was with good company.

Nice pub. Great view of the river. Only thing that was a down side was a group of guys shouting and swearing in the corner. Over powering anyone else talking.

Very nice views of the Thames from the windows and from the terrace, beautifully restored period building with cool interior. Decent fish and chips and inexpensive drinks.

If it wasn't for the staff I would have given this 5 stars. The place is lovely but the staff were so moody! I tried to buy them a drink and got turned down numerous times! You genuinely felt that you were in their living room and getting …
S. F.
Nice local pub. Giving this five stars especially because of the awesome terrace/patio looking out on the Thames

Great location, I visited in winter but it's probably incredible in summer. Nice cheap drinks for London and the location is nice. The food was nice but wasn't the main attraction.
S. A.
Huge pub with a big Thames-side terrace. For tradition and character, the other pubs further down the river are better, but this is one of the best for actually getting a river view. San Smith's, so cheap too

The bar is brilliantly placed by the river and the service is amazing. Everyone clearly likes working here and and seem to give it the personal touch. Well done!
M. F.
Nice pub, friendly staff, cheap prices. Right in front of the river which would make it the perfect summer outing!
T. K.
Amazing Thames views and a lovely old building. Staff seem to have fun working which tells you a lot. Gets very busy sometimes.
R. W.
Great riverside views from both bar and beer garden. Like all Sam Smith's pubs, fairly cheap.

We love this old pub, nice friendly staff and lovely meals. Going back there for our Christmas drinks and taking our daughter and her fiance.

Good spot with a nice view. Can get quite windy and chilly but that’s just London.

Great place to have a pint of beer and some pork pie!

Fantastic riverside pub. You can see that the staff are doing their absolute best with new restrictions in place.

Great pub right on the water front, it's a Sam smiths pub so you know the beer is going to be good and the food is great pub fare. The upstairs sofa area is really good if you can grab it!
A. C.
Nice beers, amazing place
R. A.
My partner and I visited for an evening meal and were bowled over with the service. Mike was an exemplary host, couldn't do enough to make us comfortable. We will certainly be back for a second and third helping! What a great night out it was! Ray.

Great beer garden with beautiful river views. Interiors are amazing too - proper old English pub. Beers are great too. One of the best pubs in Wapping!

Nice outside area. Staff could do with learning to smile though.

Good waterside location, only serves independent wine/beer/spirits

Really cool for a pint, anytime of the day or evening, with friendly staff, cheap beers and an awesome view on the Thames.

Great pub by the river and very reasonable prices, Samuel Smiths from tadcaster so really helps us in the pocket 👌
C. W.
Sam Smith's pub with the usual in house beer and wine selections. Views over the Thames and an outside patio area. Filled with local office workers shortly after 18.00 but then quietens down after 19.00.
G. B.
Lovely olde worlde Riverside pub.Enjoyed a beer, stayed for a meal on a very hot summers day (34C)overlooking the river with a cool breeze blowing through the window ... Perfect!
M. G.
Great pub with amazing riverside terrace. The drinks are relatively low price for the area as well.

Best pub around, beer garden overlooking Thames and it's never too busy. Good selection of beers too.
A. P.
Nice riverside pub with well priced beers. Less famous than Prospect of Whitby butn great place for a pint
J. R.
The staff are a bit cocky but the actual pub its self is fantastic, right by the river thames and the food isn't to bad either, i like it.
C. R.
This pub is great! their cider is outstanding! it has pretty good view of London as well.
D. N.
Part of the Wapping high street crawl. Quite big and modern inside, despite Olde Worlde image. Small terrace on to river with good views downstream. Lots of beer and food choices, probably a good bet for a pricey lunch.
L. N. (.
Spent an hour over a pint. Good atmosphere and historic. Its got two floors and outsidegarden-seating. Lovely setting - recommended.
S. M.

Hotspot for a cheeky after work pint/shot. Bang on the Thames so great view. The outdoor area was built when Dirty Den was still in the East End. Spruce it up Geez!
