Reviews of The Cat's Back
L. B.
Nice pub, decent interior, nice beer and food menu looked nice. A bit tucked away, so quieter than most in the area, but we'll worth seeking out.
N. B.
I went for a drink here and it's changed a lot recently. Used to be a charming old local. Now it's been revamped, and is more like a bar than a pub. Still decent, just not what I was expecting. For example, creaky wooden stools have been replaced with black leather swivels, lighting has been turned down etc.
A. P.
The leather chairs were comfortable, music in background, expensive pint unfortunately. Blonde Bartender is snappy, don't try to engage in conversation! I have to mark it down because food is only served in the evenings and we went in expecting pub lunch. If you find yourself in this situation, walk down the road to the Queen Adelaide, great seating by the fireplace and a delightful meal.
J. C.
New refurb looks top shelf! Kept the old local feel with a modern vibe. Brand new lounge area upstairs aptly named the lion's den provides intimate surroundings with comfy chesterfield sofas and can't wait for the fire to be lit in the winter nights.
Bar provides great range of Harvey's ales and Budweiser, Corona, Camden's and Guinness on tap.
Haven't sampled the extensive wine menus yet but will be back to try the roast and a large glass of red wine.

I love this pub! Their new collaboration with Streat Latin Arepas is a win-win for me. I usually go to eat at their other site in street cube Wandsworth. I had the best enchiladas with a Camden pale ale and churros for dessert. What else could you ask for!? The staff is super friendly and there’s always a great atmosphere. Highly recommended
A.
Amazing venue with great drinks selection to match the new menu from Streat Latin Arepas from Arepas, proper Mexican tacos, Empanadas, Tequeños, churros and Tres leches cake with Gluten Free, vegan and Halal available!! you must try the food it's absolutely delicious, also the mulled wine is spectacular 😋
A. N.
Cute little pub off the beaten track, good selection of ales and lagers on tap, quite a unique and cosy atmosphere with a little beer garden hidden at the back of the building, just a short walk to Wandsworth Park and the Thames River path. We'll worth a visit if one fancies a hussle free, pleasant visit down a quirky lovely little pub.
M. R.
Great pub and really fantastic food! This place is tucked away off the beaten track but is really worth finding!
D. S.
Very pleasant, nice pub, good staff and food was okay.
L.
A cosy out-of-the-way pub with a wood burning fire friendly staff great drinks and food
H. S.
What a refurb!! Great atmosphere, great people. Delicious food and lovely drinks.
C. D.
The best beer and one of the best pubs on a recent pub crawl around Wandsworth.
Nice relaxed pub set in back streets between the One Way System and the River Thames. One of very few (two?) pubs in London owned by Harveys Brewery from Sussex so the beer range focuses there - no bad thing. Beer was well kept with 4 cask ales and, from previous visits, food is good and there is a nice (small) garden alongside.
S. H.
Very cosy local pub with a lot of well behaved dogs on view
A. L. d. S.
Really nice pub to enjoy a chat and a beer. They organise poker nights, cinema and live music.
The Sunday roast is just DELICIOUS!
S. O.
Really cool small pub. Staff made the place. Some different beers to try as well
N. E.
A lovely little pub with board games, friendly staff and a poker night.
The Old Ale was particularly good.
D. B.
Great beer, good food and lovely community atmosphere. Loads of great events
S. M.
Best bar in Wandsworth, Dynamic staff with an always friendly crowd. 👌
C. M.
This is a great little pub - super friendly staff!
E. S.
Have only wonderful things to say about this place! We rented the top floor for a friends birthday; loved the open space (that they didn't mind us decorating), that we could play our own music and they let us keep a cake in the fridge until all the guests arrived. The staff is also incredibly friendly! Our party was ordering a lot of drinks and they did a great job keeping up with us and all the other patrons in the pub. Really enjoyed the lovely outdoor area. The food was good, but they also didn't mind that we ordered in pizzas for our guests.
I. R.
Fantastic local pub only 111 steps from the river Thames. Great atmosphere whatever the time of year. A great, plant-laden outdoor terrace for summer and cosy indoors seating and fireplace for the autumn and winter. Staff are fantastic and engage in a genuine and friendly manner. They have a good rotating menu delivered by skilled chefs... their chips and roasts are genuinely the best I’ve had in a while. 14/10 would recommend.
J. d. V.
What a gem of a pub! They've got everything - atmosphere, great staff, good food and good drink...all for a reasonable price!
Went here a few weeks back for a reunion with an old friend. Instantly had a good feeling when I told the cabbie where I was going and he said, "Good choice!".
Even on a dreary evening, the pub has got a great atmosphere. Buzzing, but not too loud, and with good background music. Lots of chatter and it's clear that they've got their regulars (which, personally, always indicates a good pub).
Georgia took great care of the two of us - our glasses were rarely empty, the food arrived in good time (and was delicious!), and it was refreshing to have someone behind the bar who was genuinely friendly and funny.
Was also thankful for her patience while grabbing a photo of me and my friend!
The plan is to go back tomorrow evening for the Film Club and to show the boyfriend that there are still definitely friendly little pubs around London.
D. C.
A lovely little pub with a nice selection of Harvey's ales and a couple of nice continental lagers. Very friendly staff and a cosy bar make this a favourite of mine. Good for a quiet pint in the afternoon, a fun night out AND a Roast on a Sunday. They've got it covered.
A. T.
A cosy old English pub by the river with friendly staff and a good choices of beers and wines. Popped in after a long river walk and had a nice pint of Harveys. The most comfortable place for me I feel home in the cat’s back for its beautiful friendly staff and the amazing food that made by a very talented chef the landlord himself plus
W. S.
What a pub!!
The confit duck is awesome and the bar is friendly. So unassuming on the outside, couldn’t be further from the truth when you walk in.
Jack behind the bar is exceptionally friendly, made us feel very welcome from the moment we got to the bar - make sure you ask him for a good local drink!!
We ordered the duck for dinner which was incredible, fell apart on the plate. Service was excellent, can’t fault it. Toby the chef came out to explain to us how he preps and cooks it.
Honestly, the complete package.
D. C.
Beautiful tucked away pub thats extremely dog friendly and has amazing food with a constantly changing menu focusing on freshly prepared ingredients. Regular nights on such as life drawing and live music it's more than just a local favourite.
H. W.
Great pub tucked away behind Wandsworth park. Well kept ales and extremely friendly and welcoming staff that were fantastic. Food was OK
S. B.
Quiet, cosy, out of the way pub. Harvey's tied, but with a reduced range, no mild. Food is good but the mains are slightly pricey. They play music but it's not obtrusive.
S. F.
Serious from scratch cookery off the beaten path. If you've got a hankering for a legit pie or fish and chips this is the place for you. Ample wine and brew selection that won't drain your pockets. Genial locals and staff. The music selection is always spot on. I'm so grateful for this gem which upholds the glory and atmosphere of the traditional English pub. Will be back again for the Sunday roast. Heard it cooks for ages overnight. That's that I'm talking about!
A. N.
A very traditional looking pub just outside of Wandsworth park. The lady who served us was very polite and easy going. It was quite when we went with not much happening. It does have a little beer garden out the back
S. M. K.
Fabulous pub, atmosphere so chilled, staff very welcoming and friendly. Love this place. My partner and son rave about the beer, wines good too.
A.
Nice little dog friendly pub with a welcoming environment and very friendly staff. Has both a lovely garden area for during the summer months and a cosy interior with a log fire and board games for the colder evenings. Very happy that it’s my local.
J.
This cute little local is a must if you're out Wandsworth way. Its major selling point is its friendly welcome and community feel, but they're also top of the ale game, with a rotating selection of Harveys and guest ales on tap. If you're not an ale fan, then they have a selection of wines, whiskeys and cocktails.
A. W.
KGreat pub. Lovely interior. Great outside garden area. Shame that there was a menu, but no food. This pub is let down massively. If it wasnt for the fablous young lady trying her hardest to keep everyone happy. I would have just walked straight back out. She was having to deal with people were there to play cards. And Which seems to happen every Wednesday. She was a credit to them
F. E.
A nice and intimate place to have a drink. They have a good selection of Ales also and the pub is close to the river so great on a summers day. Has a small smoking area in the back. Not too many seats in here but not often overcrowded. Recommended.
R. D.
What a lovely little traditional pub. Open fire, a selection of Harvey's ales on tap, a dozen tables and friendly bar staff. Looked like they did food but we didn't sample any this time, will go back.
S. K.
Had the best ever time here in this pub with my son and 3 of the local reprobates.
We haven't been made so welcome anywhere before. What a memorable day we had and we left there with wonderful memories and new friends.
We look forward to returning!!!
H. P.
We had 25th Wedding Anniversary drinks at The Cat's Back upstairs. Free rent of the Room for at least 50 people. House wines very tasty and well priced. food for 30 at £10 a head was delicious - old favourites including Haggis wrapped scotch egg, home made sausage rolls. Harveys on tap is always a bonus. A wonderful 'proper' pub, with two young blokes running the show. Top ambience and a treat to have the pub within walking distance. Simon and Jo
M. M.
Nice small local pub. Guys at the bar friendly and food was good. We were in group so took up the booth which made it an effort to get out for drinks (would have been nice if the staff just took drink orders as well in this situation)
C. G.
Nice local pub with real ales and great food. Also the games and film room upstairs with the free pool table was unexpected. All in all nice atmosphere without being poncey like some of the river bars.
t. m.
Beautiful pub with an almost romantic outside area. Some of locals were quite "eager" but mostly harmless. The space upstairs (which was a stage when I was there) is super charming
M. E.
A great quiet but friendly pub. The food is good and they serve Harveys beer which is a personal favorite of mine. There is a small theatre upstairs which is an additional bonus.
j. m.
Excellent pub with great staff, food and drinks!!!!!!!!!
M. M.
Lovely small pld fashioned pub near the Thames in Wandsworth. No loud music and lovely staff. Has a small theatre upstairs. About 15 mins walk from wandsworth town station. Lovely walk along Thames nearby. You can get The Thames riverboat to within 3 mins walk.
O. L.
A quintessential English pub with plenty of charm. The food is delicious but the service and weekly events even better! Perfect for any season.
A. S.
Amazing community pub, we went for the music evening and found everyone there very welcoming and fantastic performances. Will definitely be making this our local!
M.
Nice small pub. Beer selection really not the best, but good games/film room on first floor. Haven't tried the food.
J. G.
This is a cosy, well-decorated pub, with a fire that was going when we went. The staff and friendly and the drinks selection is good. Plus, they have Monster Munch and Freddos for snacks: perfect!
O. J.
A lovely little pub nestled secretly away. Log fire, nice beer, good booth, a few board games, unfortunately no cat to be seen, the owners should really get a pub cat given the pub's name.
M. C.
Lovely Edwardian pub just off the river, selling four different Harvey's beers. The food is tasty, try the knuckle sandwich then continue your walk along the Thames Path
N. F.
Great local pub, lovely range of beers, real ale well kept, the food is excellent (especially the Sunday roast) and the staff are second to none.
S. M.
The perfect pub to pop in to if you've just had a meeting that could have been an email in an office near by. Friendly and knowledgeable staff with excelent beer.
A. W.
The Cat's Back (Harvey's & Son (Lewes) Ltd.)
Recently undergone a refurbishment which has stripped some of the "character" (read: "tat") but has resulted in a cleaner, brighter, crisper pub.
Four beers on the pump plus a full range of Harvey's bottled beers.Thatcher's cider, standard lagers.
Good pub food menu. Decked beer garden and function room upstairs.
Beer: 4/5
Food: (untested)
Atmosphere: 4/5
D. S.
Friendly neighbourhood pub. Good selection of drinks and great service. The garden is quaint and quiet.
S. R.
Just back from seeing "An audience with Stuart Bagcliffe" starring Michael Parker upstairs at The Cat's Back. Proper London pub. Excellent , intimate details venue for this powerful and thought provoking one man play which we saw as part of the Wandsworth Fringe.
B. M.
The Cat's Back used to be a Putney institution. Live music, decent bar staff, quirky decor and always busy. Then in 2012 Harvey's took over as the landlord chose not to renew the lease. Since then it's been distinctly average, poor ale selection, no music and a sterile, soulless interior.
C. G.
Nice and cozy. Not on the level of some of the huge "super pubs". But it's not trying to be that. Staff are friendly and glasses were clean(haha. Look, it's a thing).
J. H.
A popular local pub close to the river. If you are looking for a typical London pub this is probably it. Good selection of beers. Not overpriced.
J. D.
Genuine and friendly staff, good food and an excellent selection of drinks, not to mention the fact that it is that rare treat: a Harvey's pub in London.
D. D.
Really friendly landlords, late night drinks, live music & great Sunday Lunch. Ecclectic decoration. Go treat yourself to a local in London, you won't be disappointed!
M. H.
Log fire, uber friendly welcome, super cosy, food is fine, great selection of cask ales. Only problem: it's in a very unatmospheric neighborhood. Check it out, it won't be a let down.
J. E.
Great Harvey's ales on tap. Food is excellent. Poker and film nights during the week are great.
P. W.
A great quirky, oldy worldy and cosy pub. V friendly staff. A reall hidden gem.
S. M.
Great pub!! Atmosphere is excellent. Not to loud but yet classy. Defo a destination to go with friends for a long evening!!
l. H.
Friendly and relaxed pub that always seems to have interesting events going on. A great crowd of people in the bar.
B. S.
Lovely little traditional pub with a yummy Sunday roast and a pleasant, if small, garden. Well worth a visit.
E. W.
Very nice and friendly, atmosphere chilled and quiet. Enjoy the sunset by the river and then pop over to the cats back for a drink. Perfect!
M. E.
A proper local that is very welcome to tourists, travellers or anyone alike. Well recommended as a watering hole if you are passing by or staying nearby.
j. s.

Nice little pub, food is nice but the waiting time was quite long...they were busy on a Sunday afternoon though!
L. D.
Great little pub with excellent food, decent pints, and a friendly vibe. Occasional live music and weekly film showings.
P. M.
Nice pub down near the river. Hidden gem. Real ale, quiz night, very good Sunday roast.
M. D.
Great beer and great atmosphere. One of the best pubs in London and fantastic Harvey's beer.
T. R.
Great local pub, good food, good beers. Lovely and friendly
C. B.
Service was a bit slow. For a group of 8 we waited over 40 mins. Food could also have been a bit warmer. Staff however were polite and friendly.
R. W.
This place used to be magic.. it's lost a lot of character but it's still worth a visit.. not least for the real fire.. The lighting is a bit wrong and the music needs attention before I'd give it 5 stars
S. T.
Great little pub. Reasonable prices, a proper "pub vibe" and friendly staff and patrons
H. P. &. V.

N. D.
Brilliant little pub that has film nights, great Sunday lunches and s good beer selection
J. H.
Very much a local's pub, and in a bit of an odd location - sort of on the edge of an industrial estate, in a bit of a non-descript part of Wandsworth. Despite that there's a strong sense of community here, and it reminded me a bit of the Wenlock Arms in N1.
S. S.
Great beer. Friendly staff. Good food. Lovely building. Great all round.
M. C.
My first time in this pub and it's a beautiful location with with high ceilings and a great history.

Very cosy pub - upstairs was very cool as well with a pool table and some comfortable chairs. Not only this but there was even an arcade machine downstairs!
Drinks a bit expensive, but reasonable for such a great setting.
