Reviews of The City Barge
M. Z.
We had friends visiting from the Midlands and took them to our favourite pub on the Strand on the Green end of the Thames! Great menu and lovely staff. Never had a bad meal or experience. Beautiful interiors and a few premium tables next to the river for outdoor weather. On this occasion had a Sunday roast but the fish and chips aren't to be missed! Best in W4!
L. B.
We had a wonderful time in the private dining room. The service was wonderful and Raf made sure we were all well looked after. The food was delicious and a good time was had by all! Thank you!
N.
Beautiful cosy place, super dog friendly. Mulled wine was really nice 👌
Would definitely go again.

Saw the reviews while in the area and told myself ‘why not?’
Went in and everything seemed all good. Seemed like the perfect place for me to relax.
I walked in expecting to wait a while but was served quite quickly, perfect waiting times.
I asked the lady who served me for a Peroni; her name was Marlena. She seemed like a lovely girl, put a smile on me face.
I got my drink and just sat down for a bit, had a cigarette and sat down on my laptop.
The same girl was around, so I decided to talk with her some more. She’s definitely a keeper. I didn’t see others there or maybe I just didn’t pay attention but I’d definitely come here again. People nice, place is nice. Maybe this time I’ll get some food too!

Beautiful local pub next to the Thames. The Sunday roast are amazing and the staff are friendly and makes you feel at home. We decided to eat at the bar area and I can only speak highly of eragona and Dani they made a big effort to make it even more special.

What a wonderful time it was today at The City Barge pub ,me and the pals sitting outside on the bench enjoying the sun,the food was super delicious!and what a top service by a top guy " Rafael " ! I definitely recommend the place and I'm definitely coming back ! 😌
V. J.
The service was great, the food was fresh and delicious. I advise you to book a table as the popularity of this place means it's busy. The atmosphere here is warm and inviting and a true reflection of all of the staff.
D. C.
Great pub! Extra friendly staff! Really enjoyed dining there! They have a private dining room Upstairs and it's own staff to look after you, they bring you your food and your drinks. They definitely go the extra mile.
D. R.
Great venue. Fantastic food.. great warm genuine service.. especially thanks to Eragona.. top bloke
Busy, friendly pub in a fabulous setting. Ext to the river. ALL staff welcoming and the food is fantastic especially for vegetarians as well as Sunday menu options. The Manager was fun too..
B. M.
The vegan roast option is the best I've had so far in London. And it's not easy to find a good vegan/veg roast option in West London, and especially not one that is a nut roast.
Vegan Wellington seemed to have been made with Beyond Meat and so was nice to have texture and protein! Also good to get a decent vegetarian gravy.
Rest of meal was good, particularly the glazed carrots.
Didn't have English Breakfast tea, which seemed unusual.
Service good, found table inside at last minute despite us booking outside. Was appreciated.
Gorgeous view as is right by the river.
C. G.
Nice posh pub by the Thames. Parking outside and on the side roads is free after midday (permit holders only 10-12 midday). They are coping well with the Covid restrictions and have some nice outdoor seating. There’s lots of seating at the back facing the road and a smaller number of tables at the front facing the river so ask for a river table. Food was good but a little on the expensive side.
m. k.
Went for a Sunday roast with the family and what a great decision it was the food was amazing big shout out to Marek (chef) and the service from Jo was first class from the moment we walked in till the time we left Jo made our experience that much better. Highly recommended.
K. F.
Raffaele was our host - came with our dog had the most amazing night - thank you City Barge!!
E. M.
We went to the City Barge for the first time
today, it was the perfect Sunday afternoon. Fab location (we were lucky enough to stay for the high tide), food great and we were well after by our host Raphael. 5 out of 5, we will be back!
d. M.
Nice pub on the river.
Food menu looked decent.
I had the baked camenbert. Unfortunately it was only half baked so if ordering ask for it to be fully cooked!
P. M.
Wonderful food and service for a large family birthday. Our waiter, Raphael, was attentive and polite. A great meal out! Thank you
B. J.
Best Sunday roast, the best place with an amazing riverside view, and a really friendly staff, Raphael is been simply amazing, looking after us for any of our needing. We’ll definitely come back!!!
A. S.
Tray was an amazing bartender, suited all our needs perfectly, will be coming again!
S. W.
Amazing place Raffaelo was a gent and looked after us so well.
Cant wait to come back.

It's a pub, it is nice, staff are well mannered and helpful. Very nice to sit next to Thames (when it is warm enough, so about 15 days a year :-)
J. P.
I had a very nice dinner with a starter of whitebait and calamari and a main course of fish and chips. The staff were very helpful and pointed out that not all items from the menu were available on the Sunday evening that I was there. Service was very efficient and the restaurant had a very pleasant atmosphere with river views.
H. W.
Can't fault the lovely smiley and accommodating young staff when visiting for a lunch on 30th October. They couldn't have done more but the food and menu are extremely disappointing. I chose the Chicken club sandwich and as hungry it hit the spot but it wasn't great my side of sweet potato chips were as soggy as they could possibly be. My friend's sharing platter was mean and lacking in any substance - the aubergine was tired and wilted, the portions stingy and a big disappointment. The stars are for the staff not the food. Sorry to say.. the menu needs revisiting, updating and more care for the kitchen required. Shame.
M. J.
Good pub, roast is getting better... Not back to its pre covid best. Bit expensive
A. A.
Great place, great food, great drinks, great people. Simple as. Thank you Marlena for the amazing service and the lovely chat.
E. V.
Had a great time here and an amazing riverview, thanks Marlena for a great service! The fish and chips were lovely as well
L. D. F.
We found this lovely riverside pub and we love it, Daniele the waiter suggest us the best food on the menu and we was more then satisfied
A. C.
The most beautiful and exquisite public house in Chiswick is definitely @thecitybarge
Romantically situated on the Thames riverside, they serve a wide range of drinks, including 7 rotating hand pull ales and an extensive wine list.
All the dishes are made using fresh & seasonal ingredients.
Our lovely waitress suggested to us only the best from starters to their desserts.
Starters - Pork cheek Eccles cake, celeriac slaw, burnt apple,
Poached duck egg, gnocchi, wild mushrooms, garlic
Main - Red wine short rib of beef, hispi cabbage, garlic parmesan mash.
Wine Negroamaro
Excellent service, atmosphere and wonderful food.
L. W.
Had a great Saturday lunch, we were a big party with a bunch of kids and the staff were amazing, especially Raffael who was just fantastic. Highly recommended.
J. C.
Great night at City Barge. Danny and Raf gave immense customer service. Loved the atmosphere. Definitely returning again soon
L. E.
RAF has been the best ever ! We have had the best time and its all thanks to Rafael :) love the pub, love Raf!
P. T.
Very helpful staff, a decent glass of picpoul de pinet served at the right temlerature and really nice sea bass / new potatoes / shredded cabbage dish. We did get there at 5.30, so it wasn't as crowded as it can get.
S. A.
Thank you Raphaële for excellent service at lunchtime and for your patience with the endless drinks orders! We had a fantastic time.
A. B.
Very good experience at City Barge.. service by Raphael was so good and helpful and a lovely sense of humour
M. D. C.
Amazing food and friendly staff, thanks Daniele for helping us to get the best choice from the menu!
I will definitely come back soon!

Lovely little pub on the Thames, indoor and outdoor seating
D. J.
Patrycja make the best Chocolate Brownie hot and soft. Sauce was amazing. Beautiful place!
A. C.
Good food charming and helpful host We had a table for 12 and food and drinks were served promptly Thanks Raphael
W. K.
Nice cosy pub by the village with some good non-alcoholic choices. Can be a bit busy after the football match days.
M. M.
Pub at Thames walk. Nice service , standard selection of beers. Food so so. Had IPA chicken for £12.99, was a Farage of a chicken. (big promise, small outcome) BUT great a sunny day. And again staff was very nice.
M.
Nice pub on the side of the River Thames. Not cheap but I wouldn't expect it to be! Very busy on sunny evenings. Popular with dog owners. Easy to get to.
Z. C.
Had a few pints and a great meal, Raff was an excellent bartender and a pleasure to chat with
A. A.
lovely experience, exceptional food and very friendly service from Jo and Natalia. thank you so much
I. B.
Really cool pub! We sat outside by the river and it was really nice. Staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive. We will definitely return!
R. K.
Best pub in SW London, let alone Chiswick. Excellent food, amazing drink choices and above all staff. Special mention to Theo. He and his incredible team make all customers feel valuable. Lovely pub all around.
G. C.
Went here last night when staying nearby at Novotel Brentford. Beautiful location on the river Thames. We took our dog after searching for "dog friendly" places. What a wonderful find. Could not have been happier with the food and staff and service. Had a great recommendation for SW19 Ale from one of the guys behind the bar and the lady managing the restaurant/food was so lovely and friendly and you could see she did her job just so perfectly. We had burgers which were one of the best burgers I have had in a long time. Kids menu was great and really reasonable. Kids had nuggets, burger and pizza and all were very tasty. Kids enjoyed all of it.
L. C.
Great view, lovely food and very dog friendly, thank you Raffaele!
R. F.
Very pleasant pub, good service at the bar and excellent food.
Good selection of draft beers and ales, also a wide range of spirits. As an example around 20 different gins.
Situated in Strand on the Green overlooking the Thames.
Press ‘like’ if my review is of benefit.

Lovely pub by the side of the river. Enquired about a table inside and got directed to a small one with little stools. 'What about the one in the window?' we asked. Apparently not available. We sat down and ordered. Two much younger and more beautiful people arrived and were immediately offered the window table with the nice chairs. We couldn't approach the bar to order our drinks but were still surprised to see there was a 12.5% service charge on our bill just to have drinks eventually brought to our little table. Presumed it was discretionary but that caused fun and games as the waiter/drinks dispenser/server insisted he'd have to go all the way back to the till station to re-issue the bill. 'That's fine, we'll wait', we said. Off he went audibly mumbling that he didn't earn very much.
Nice pub, nice setting, lager served in bitter glasses. Hopefully things will be better once we're through these strange times.
H. S.
I had an amazing time here, thanks Marlena for the excellent service we received. Definitely will be coming back
c. b.
Popped in and had a wonderful time while visiting the area, the service Marlena gave me was the best i’d received in a long time!!
H. C. S.
Nice pub and dining on the river. Food was delicious and service was great. It was enjoyable to be able to also listen to the locals enjoying the game.
D. S.
Nice place, and amazing stuff special thanks to Raffael best bartender!!!
D. G.
Great pub, good food and a lovely view of the river. The staff are always welcoming and helpful.
G. A.
Amazing service from Rafael, thanks for making us feel so welcome and for the awesome service. We will be back soon!
M. L.
Rafael is a lovely waiter, very helpful and cheery ! Great place overall
A. C.
Very large portions. We had a steak sandwich and a club sandwich. Presentationally a little clumsy maybe, but the staff were kind and helpful.
a.
Nice to have a response to my 4 star review so only polite for me to explain it. Overall a fabulous location, full of atmosphere and stunning views over the river Thames. Every staff member from entry to exit were polite, well informed and attentive and we were more than happy to pay the service charge. Entertaining chef loudly calling his orders to his team, just what you want in a well managed but noisy kitchen! The missing star.... the food was regular pub grub, no stand out flavours for us, nothing wrong with it, warm and tasty enough but just missing a sparkle. Fair enough but the pricing and location deserve a bit more skill in the kitchen. And also only fair for me to say I would revisit, perhaps for more drinks than eats though to take advantage of The City Barge's many plus points.
D. B.
Delicious lunch with the high tide. Rafael was a brilliant waiter
R. v. P.
Danny answer Raff are amazing and give the venue the most welcoming feel. Would highly recommend
G. T.
Great meal and excellent service from our waiter, Raffaele!
S. Y.
Another lovely pub right on the river which has brought about a debate on whether it beats last weeks roast!
The beef was nice and pink, not too fatty, top marks for veg and a stunning Yorkshire Pudding.
However it could have done with a touch more gravy and the roasts were just ok.
Make sure you book as it can be packed and is dog friendly.
S. R.
Fantastic pub, great food, friendly staff and a lovely spot in the river
E. M.
Great service, nice and cosy interior. A bit posh and overpriced. Food is just OK.
A. T.
Thanks to Raphael for great service. Really nice meal.
L. F.
Nice pub along the river. Slightly hard to get to from public transport but pleasant staff and nice food
M. J.
Still a great place for an amazing sunset riverside drink.
I had the flat iron chicken with smoked bacon and potatoes which I found was not to standard and therefore, at approx £16 very poor value for money.
P. M.
Best Sunday roast! We had such a lovely time over here. Beautiful place by the river, amazing food, friendly and polite staff, specially our waitress Eva. Definitely looking forward to visit again.
J. S.
Sunday lunch by the river, roast chicken, big old Yorkie, plentiful roast potatoes and a cold bottle of Trebbiano. What more could you ask for?
I know! A massive portion of one of the best sticky toffee puddings I’ve had. Love those pecans…
M. S.
Excellent food, top location on the river and great service from the staff.
Highly recommended when in the area
P.
Great roast pork 👍, nice decor and good range of drinks. Been a few times now and consistent with its food and service. Will visit again.
T. M.
This was our first dining experience in a pub/restaurant after 7 months since February 2020. We were very pleased with the service. Staff were very friendly, attentive and professional. We ordered fish and chips and sea bass and they were amazing and very fresh. Tables were distanced but the ambiance was not really affected. Will definitely come back. Thanks for a lovely evening.
N. D. M.
Staff are on point! Food was okay, but really doesn’t match to its pricing at all. £16.00 for a burger and chips. Just felt like I needed something else for that price. The space looks lovely.
S. S.
great food and a great pub along the river in chiswick. word of advice, book in advance for Sunday roast. gets extremely busy
C. M.
One of my favourite pubs on the river. Slightly different but very very tasty pub food. The service was never great from all the times I’ve been there but other than that great pub.
P. K.
Great meal with excellent service in particular Raffael!
S. S.
Always a great spot to visit. Good Food and great staff. Lovely to be beside the Thames to, a nice stroll down
K. M.
Great Service - Raffaele 🌟, great food and scenery :)
S. W.
It's not a city or a barge but it is a pub on the river with a nice view and great food
I. T.
Gary and Raffaele were amazing! Love this pub
J. B.
Great roast dinner on a Sunday, food was excellently prepared and arrived quickly.
A. M.
Lovely location and pub looks great and feels cosy however the food is pretty average and service is a bit slow.
S. C.
Relaxed atmosphere, helpful smiling staff which always helps. We had fish and steak and lamb, all enjoyed. Double cooked chips. Linguine was a little light. Great choice of cask ales. Can get busy so outside seating is a premium. Not cheap but good value.
L. M.
Our family had a very nice two course meal. Staff all relaxed and friendly. Good to see the pub busy with people eating. Good varied menu Sea bass very nice, Burger - proper steak, Chicken &ham pie full of meat. Look forward to visiting again soon.
D. S.
Wonderful experience. Great service and top roast!
A. F.
After not being in London for three years I was impressed by the quality of the food here. Not everything that came to the table would be ordered again but overall a good experience.
P. !.
Been here a few times and its good. It is a bit more pricy than the other pubs on the thames walk from kew but it isnt significant.
The oitdoor spaces are good, the staff are efficient and friendly. Will continue to drop in.
B. T.
A great place with great food and great service.
Rafael is a star
k. m.
Nice riverside location. Good variety of food on menu at reasonable prices. Staff very friendly and helpful. Outside seating available on river walk and more sheltered location at pub entrance. Good mix of table sizes from 2s to 6-8. Covid safety procedures look comprehensive. Great place for lunch.
s. j.
Beautiful ambience and good food (although a bit on expensive side). They have only few tables on riverside so when asking for outside table need to specify you need riverside rather than in the backside.
D. J.
Eragona made our night perfect at the City Barge. Thank you
N. H.
Great food and great service in a lovely location
M. L. S.
Beautiful location, with a chance to dip your toes in the river as you sip your pint.
Beautifully crafted food, at a premium price. Great soft-shell crab and avocado burger.
L. J.
Nice pub in a picturesque location. Doing a great job with Covid rules and social distancing. Good choice of beer. Food was just ok, which is why I'm giving it a 3. I had the vegan wellington - which had no description on the menu so I wasn't totally sure what was in it - it had some beetroot and a huge amount of (what I assume was) soya style fake meat. Too meat like for me personally and not enough veg for a well rounded roast. Partner had chicken, which was a huge portion, but again not much variety of veg. We asked for more gravy that never came. Saw some of the other plates coming from the kitchen that looked good so maybe other options are better than the roasts
L. P.
Great venue along the thames to spend a summer evening drinking outdoors
N. S.
A great Riverside pub with pleasant seating and good food
B. T.
The City Barge is well set up to cope with the current covid restrictions. The food is good although the range of beer was a little limited with only two ales available. Friendly, helpful staff.
M. Z.
Difficult to find a table but very nice food and ambiance.
G. D.
Brilliant, one of the best meals I've had! Great location, atmosphere and food. Service was personal and friendly; highly recommended 👍
B. O. H.
As visitors from the North this was a great place to have a pint
J. M.
If I’m not mistaken this riverside retreat was featured in the filming by Richard Lester of The Beatles film ‘Help!’ quite near where they do an about turn from Post Office Alley after being attacked by bagpipes wielding Scots Dragoon pipers.
S.
A nice pub (if a bit too crowded), with great food, even though it is a bit on the pricy side.
Includes service charge in the bill, giving it an automatic -1.
S. O.
Good food ,good beer ,good wine , excellent service.
J. C.
Great location - Nice food, friendly staff - not the cheapest but I guess that goes with a spot right on the banks of the river in Chiswick
J.
Recently I have visited twice for family meals which have both been very successful. On both occasions we had excellent service and good food and were made to feel very welcome despite presenting an extra challenge on each occasion (deaf wheelchair user / large group with small children). The sea bream was excellent and the sirloin roast and puddings very good. I wouldn't hesitate to visit again and feel grateful for being accommodated so gracefully on both visits.
F. T. G.
The service and food was great, and the pub itself quite nice, but they should provide extra gravy on the side for roasts!
S. H.
Nice setting, food good but service slow to non existent which was a shame.
O. M.
Superb, great location, dining with Riverside views, fab dessert, exceptional hospitality.
J. R.
Went there for lunch on a sunny Sunday in February. A few quite tables in the sun by the river. Inside, it’s a pretty big pub, quite busy and not very quite. Friendly atmosphere. Waiters were honest about the anticipated 40min wait and the food arrived just on time. Not an very large offer of beers. Good pork roast - not the classical pork belly but still quite tender. Would recommend.
L. S.
Fabulous food, nicely presented with no service delays or errors. A nod to Josh, he was very responsive without being intrusive and very knowledgeable, taking time to chat to us after our meal. The quiz night was on but didn't spoil our enjoyment and looked like great fun for a Wednesday night so will return for that.
The location is great, they have a fabulous menu and drink selection, also they are very accommodating for dogs in the bar area.
A. W.
Great place, great river views, and delicious food with attentive staff. What's not to love?!
.... Hard wooden benches...
C. C.
Pleasant location by the river. Afternoon lunch of mainly fish. Not large portions compared to the vegetarian burger and chicken but cooked just right. Chocolate cheesecake was filling but the ice cream was miniature. White wine was rather good. Staff were helpful.
J. D.
Lovely riverside pub. Most staff very nice, 1 efficient but distant. Had excellent lunch with beer and wine. Only tried 1 ale, good but choice limited. Going to give it another try.
Update: good second visit, food good, more cask ales available, and the previously distant staffer much friendlier.
I. W.
Great food. Great selection of drinks. Parking out front, although only around 6 spaces. We often use the meeting room upstairs which has a TV and flip chart. Room comfortably seats 10-16 people with great views of the Thames. Staff always friendly.
B. T.
One of the best pub food I know in London. Great outside seating in the summer next to the Thames. Consistent, amazing quality food, seasonally changing and very creative menu. Service is mostly good for the size of the place, although in the outside it can be very slow. Overall I'm happy to come back every time, and it never disappoints.
I. D.
Came here with 5 friends as a careful break from lockdown and to help with eat out premise. Masks and visors on the staff, with handwash easily available n tables sensibly distanced with extra dividers. Food was lovely, I enjoyed the pan chicken (excellent chips), and friends enjoyed std n vegan fish n chips, and their burger too. Ales were fresh n tasty. Will return for sure.
M. Y.
Absolutely wonderful. A gorgeous venue on the river with incredibly friendly staff. The decor was lovely and the pub allows dogs. Most importantly, the food was delicious all-round (with the pork belly being the best roast dinner I’ve had in London!).
Can’t wait to go again.
J. L.
A pleasant atmosphere with good food and decent pricing. Along with the scenery the local chatter was interesting.
E. G.
Nice pub by the river. Friendly, courteous staff.
Met a friend for a drink. They have outdoor seating by the river in the front and also round the back by the car park. It's a small car park for 8 cars. We sat outside as it was a nice day, but inside looked very nice.
I didn't eat, but food looked and smelt lovely. I would definitely go back.
Reason for 4 stars is because i didn't try the food, hopefully next time.
S. S. (.
Great location on the strand on the green Chiswick riverside waterfront.
Perfect for people watching on a sunny day. Expect to loiter for a table if you arrive at peak times. Do t be shy to ask people to move over & share tables if they’re hogging big ones!
Food service on weekends/busy days (Sunday roasts/events) can be slow and poorly managed. Kitchen gets overwhelmed orders take ages to come out (inside restaurant bookings takes priority to outdoors)
Food is good, however slightly overpriced for what it is, drinks also.. although there is a good choice of spirits, cider on tap would be a nice alternative to bottles.
B. J.
Best Sunday Roast I've had 👍🏻
M. O.
Visited here on Monday last. First day of a new lunch menu. 2 courses £13/3 courses £17, served between 12 noon and 4pm, Monday to Thursday. Good service, lovely setting. Fantastic value. Good quality and nicely presented food. 😊
M. F.
Lovely pub, good selection of booze, nice sunday roast and an amazing location
S. B.
Been here for dinner and brunch, both were exceptional. Food is fantastic, with a seasonal, interesting menu and the kitchen is open which is a nice touch. Beautiful location in the summer, sitting outside for a bottomless brunch on a hot Saturday is unrivalled in the area.
M. P.
Great pub with such tranquil views
R. G.
Great pub, great food!
T. B.
Best restaurant food on the Thames, really good quality and balance, not just relying on location by the river which is how most the pubs around there usually do. Exceptionally good. Also dog friendly. Can sit outside (parisols available if too hot), inside or on nice shaded patio area around the back. A nice private dining room available on the first floor overlooking the river. One particular must try for starters is the Japanese cured salmon with ginger, mirin, radish and coriander. Coffee also good. Service very good
P.
It’s a nice pub in a beautiful location. We ordered the sharing platter with 5 different bar snacks. Each for 4 pounds. It was disappointing. One slice of baguette with garlic butter for 4 pounds? And 6 peppers for 4 pounds? The rest was okay and the food tasted nice.
B. A.
Raffaele was brilliant and lovely food!
T. T.
Gorgeous views situated in a quiet and nice, yet not too indiscreet location. Drinks were served very attentively and I felt that the food portions were larger than the norm (on top of having no lackluster experiences with the three things I had tried since) which is always a plus for a local foodie like me.
Parking can be a bit limited, but the overall decor of the pub feels very cosy and even has a tranquil effect to it in the summer with the Thames being just a stone's throw away - always seems very busy during that time of the year outside.
S. R.
Beautiful Location, staff were super friendly (especially manager/owner). We ran an hour late for booking as we got a little lost in Kew Gardens. Staff were welcoming, allowed us to park there early as we had 4 kids & a baby. Food was very good & fresh. Lots of homemade elements (must try mac/cauli & cheese). Good kids menu selection, though pudding part could have been more extensive than just ice cream. Whole of the time there we were looked after and dealt with fast and efficiently. Even with the demands of each bossy person :) will definitely return.
P. W.
Good food, tho a bit pricey. Waiting staff obviously need to hone their skills! Attractive location. Covid measures in place.
A. B.
The City Barge has a brilliant location. The menu is brief and food is good. Service is slow on a busy day. The tables next to the river are always oversubscribed. Book in advance. The fish and chips were creditable, the tomato and red pepper soup was good, the vegetarian options were quite good. Worth a visit.
J. M. B.
The food quality was amazing. We all had the Vietnamese noodles, which were really good & exceeded expectations in terms of portion size, as they came with a separate dish of spring rolls and sauces. Great location, good cider, nice staff. A bit expensive, but overall would definitely recommend
A. S.
The pub is beautiful and is in a great location. Though sadly, I'd say it relies on those two things to charge high prices for very average food. A member of our party ordered the vegetarian ramen (which I tried), and it was completely tasteless, had no flavour at all.
It was sent back.
My bavette steak was a little more on the charred/burnt side than I would have liked, with a very weak peppercorn sauce, that again, just didn't really taste of anything.
I think the fries come from a bag too - or they look/taste as if they do.
I'd just really expect more from a pub charging restaurant prices.
But, I will say as a local, the bar does the best Bloody Mary around.
P. F.
Lovely pub by the river. A few tables outside overlooking the river but I prefer to sit inside actually because of the cosy and comfortable setting. There’s just a good vibe and you’re in no hurry to leave. Food wise we’re firmly in gastropub territory with proper food on offer (nothing overly fancy, just nicely prepared by proper chefs). Friendly staff too.
K. B.
This is a wonderfull pub next to the thames. They have a terrace on the road and on the river side. They have a lot of different beers on tap. There is also a menu available with a lot of great food seafood, meat and vegetarian choices. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
M. S.
Great experience, fabolous service by Raphael!
l. r.
Such a great spot. Awesome choice of drinks, a good selection of Ales and spectacular views. I'm not a fan of the food but have still given 5 stars. The vegetarian options are limited and not great, but I don't think that's the main aspect of the pub, and therefore unfair to remove a star based on just that.
E. F.
Great food and service, sitting outside along the river is a must. However if sitting outside you have to order food online which is no problem at all. The portions are large and I 100% recommend eating here!!!
D. H.
Cosy. Very friendly staff. Good service. Love the location
P. K.
Lovely food and in a great location, especially for social gatherings. Could be a bit pricey though but the quality of the food is amazing. They give you great portions so make sure you have some serious munchies before attending, you'll enjoy it!
R. G.
Beautiful pub with a great location on the river. Good selection of beers. The quality of the food is really good, although slightly on the expensive side (the portion sizes also vary somewhat). The staff are all very friendly too. A great place to spend a summer's afternoon having a drink by the river.
t. j.
I always loved the City Barge and their Crabacado burger (crab burger). The new management is on the ball. I came here on an extremely busy, sunny and warm Saturday afternoon. It was understaffed and our delicious food arrived without the drinks we ordered - frustrating - yet the manager came, apologised, got our drinks sorted and told us the dinner was on the house. I wish more restaurants and pubs were like this. They made a minor mistake because they were short of staff, but nevertheless with all their professionalism they fixed it right away and unexpectedly offered us dinner. Thank you guys! We’ll come back very soon!
S. E.
Been my favourite pub on the river for over 40 years and seen it transform from a few tables in back room around the old Victorian fireplace to today’s period chic establishment. Beers great as is the food. Hugely larger now having recently been expanded into the first floor.
D. K.
Very nice gastro pub with a modern twist on traditional dishes, accomplished by an extensive and very reasonably priced wine list. Beers (draught & bottled) also available. Prices neither cheap nor expensive. Rather normal for the menu it serves. Very nice views of the Thames and tables to sit outside if weather permits.
K. S.
Lovely outdoor and indoor space, staff were friendly! Great rosé and sweet potato fries.
U. S.
Staff friendly, but the food looked better on paper than it tasted on the plate. I had to return my Pork Ribeye becuase it was too dry and tough. Without a quibble they replaced it with a safe and sound fish and chips. Which came out crispy, light and delicious.
B. N.
One of our favourite pub to go!!! Best place to enjoy to view of the river while drinking the pint of beer!!!! The food is great as well!! Specially the pork belly roast!
H. B.
I went to the soft launch last Thursday for dinner with a group of girl mates and was blown away by the transformation of this historic riverside gastropub. The place has been completely renovated and now looks incredible. It's definitely a lot more female friendly, light and trendy compared to its previous state.
The food is very tasty (and beautifully presented), there's prosecco on tap and even the cheapest wine on their list is good quality (which is a novelty in many other pubs!). All this is topped off with friendly, knowledgeable staff. I couldn't recommend this lovely spot enough. I will be back again soon to sample their Sunday Lunch!!
L. S.
Food was good, however we ordered a few starters along with our mains which were brought out at the same time. Service from our waiter and bar staff were great though!
G. T.
Fantastic local pub along the river.
As this place is located a little out of the way it is a nice relaxed atmosphere compared to many others.
The food is great and staff are really friendly. Prices are really good too considering the typical standards in and around London...
L. W.
We went to City Barge for lunch on monday, first outing since the cv19 pandemic started Staff were very pleasant and efficient. Food was lovely and the atmosphere was ambient and relaxed. Would come back here again and will tell my friends to come here too
S. P.
Revisited after six months, obvious signs of dropping of basic standards. Absolutely filthy water glass on table showed to waitress and no
acknowledgment, ordered half pint of Peroni the glass was chipped , informed, quickly replaced. Food was adequate.
Being locals will give another try soon.
K. N.
Nice decor and they serve pretty amazing food here. The staff are super nice and friendly. We had a family function here and it was such wonderful service and food. Got nice river breeze and you can even take a stroll after the meal if you like.
J. C.
Lovely bar and food. Great location. Price is slightly higher than other pubs nearby. But quality is slightly higher so it’s justified. Grab a bench outside on a nice day and watch the river.
Z.
Great pub with lovely food and a beautiful view of the Thames, what more could you ask for.
J. H.
We had a party of 6 adults one child, all meals were superb. Lovely atmosphere and everyone on the ball ! Keep up your brilliant work.
M. H.
Excellent food all round from the main menu to the specials! The staff are very friendly and love to chat as well as being very attentive during service. They are dog friendly and allow them inside on the main floor as well as outside either facing the canal or the main entrance.
S. J.
Rafael looked after us very well.
p. h.
Food a bit on the pricy side, but good food! I booked a table for a busy Saturday night, and was glad to see a table with river views were waiting for us when we got there. Thank you!
N. W.
Food is very good, excellent selection of lagers/ipas on tap and a perfect location on the river with tables outside. On a sunny day not sure there is much more you can ask for from a pub.
C.
A pub with a more up-market menu. Have eaten here a few times and it's always been good. Worth a visit if you've been to all the other pubs near by or if you want something different to the standard pub grub.
P. O. (.
Great food watching sunset... Christmas dinner
M. H.
My favourite brasserie. Beautiful ambience and food is superb! The views of the river are gorgeous even on a rainy day. Definitely the place to stop for nourishment when on a river walk. Love it!
A. H.
Superb pub right on the banks of The Thames. Very nice decor and atmosphere, with friendly staff and a great manager Rob. Grab a pint and sit outside watching the sun set over Kew Bridge. Perfection. Treat yourself to beautiful food too because you're worth it.
R. M.
Beautiful view of Kew bridge from the tables outside.
Not the biggest fan of Amstel or Camden Hells so lost a star for that.
Although we didn't eat, the food coming out looked great. We will be back to try it soon.
A. R.
Always love this place. Great food, decent beer and wine and it's dog friendly in the bar area. Has lovely riverfront seating too. Be careful of high tide though.
B. R.
Went here for my dad's birthday. Drank some good beer and ate nice food. Was quite quiet for the time of the week. Overall a nice pub. Would probably be better when it's less empty.
B. P.
The newly remodeled City Barge is great! It used to be a hole in the wall with not so great food, but since the complete remodel, the space is beautiful, and the food is great! They are also very dog friendly and the new menu items are delicious! I really like the fish and chips and the sunday pork roast is so yummy, comes with veggies and a HUGE yorkshire pudding on the side! Prices are around 12-18 GBP for mains. Typical London pub food prices (maybe slightly more expensive, but the food's quality matches the pricing). Can get crowded on the weekends.
T. C.
Lovely pub beside the river - great service and delicious food - I had the roast dinner and enjoyed every mouthful. Highly recommended!
J. F.
Decent pub, a good food, but pricey for what it was but no complaints 👍
P. P.
This is a classic West London pub. Great atmosphere, right on the River, very spacious. Good food, good drinks, great staff.
D. P.
Situated right next to the Thames, this pub is best known for having outdoor seating that gets partially submerged during high tides; a brilliant experience. It is a must visit for people who love beaches and water bodies.
L. W.
Excellent menu, varied dishes at fair prices and good selection of beers and gins. The wine list isn't too bad either and the riverside location is ideal in summer.
L. D.
This is an exceptional pub with super friendly and efficient staff and superb food. A real riverside gem! Super clean and safe without being fussy.
M. A.
The best Fish n Chips I have ever had! Relaxing atmosphere and splendid staff. Loved it so much we booked our NYE reservation here.
T. D. J.
nice pub, good location and great staff. right on the water and has a bit of parking so a good spot to meet. food is good, especially like the sunday roast.
G. C.
Excellent food and friendly service. Ellie? managed to change our reservation time at the last minute by juggling some of their other bookings. Would highly recommend.
B. J.
Visit this place every week as my partner likes the decor location etc which I agree with but the last few weeks the lager choice is getting worse! Lagers are off ( not available) or removed and today only 1 lager choice, it's not great for a good pub along such a lovely stretch of river.
D. C.
I've only been here twice and both times were great. A 5 star pub with 6 star food and a 7 star location. Absolutely wish this was my local
D. S.
Really enjoyed this pub on the river. Great location, friendly staff, clean and cosy place. Had the Ribeye for lunch which I thought was great. Make sure you book as it does get quite packed.
J. W.
Gets very busy - slow service, average food. Top.prices. Do not have the steak - took over half an hour to arrive, chips hot, steak cold and fatty. Stick with the bar snacks menu for best value.
S. A.
The experience and the service have to be improved. It can be very lengthy. The chef is making great efforts to create interesting menus. The location is great. The atmosphere friendly.
J. S.
Really nice old pub (originally built in 1484 and called The Navigators Arms), in 1965 the Beatles filmed a scene with a tiger here and also down the Post Office Alley next-door to the pub. Serves really good food. Staff are friendly and approachable with good service. Lovely scenic views on the terrace overlooking the Thames. A short stroll away from Kew Bridge, Brentford, Grove Park and Chiswick. Popular with the locals.
V. R.
Good still had the crab burger avocado ok but pricy for WhAt IT was
M. B.
This is the closest I can come to replicating that "sundowner on the beach" feeling without having to really travel. The City Barge is more or less down the road from where we live and a great place to bask in the setting sun with a drink and a burger. At least it used to be - until they redid the place, making it more upmarket and moving it into a different price bracket entirely. Another reviewer called the previous place a "hole in the wall". I think it had character. Still a great location though and a pint's a pint, right?
T. F.
Food was decent, with a reasonable menu. The service was quite slow, we ordered drinks at the table when we arrived and it took 15 minutes for them to arrive, though the staff were friendly. Not worth the 12.5% auto added to your bill.
M. L.
I just love the city barge, in any hour of the day or any day of the year, any season or any weather condition.
So many great memories here.
Great bar food, good beers and wine selection
Location right on the river.
N.
Good food, great outdoor seating, nice and friendly staff.
S. B.
Great location and building.
They seem to still be working on the food aspect after the recent "upgrade".
Staff seemed overwhelmed and inexperienced and the service was slow. The quality of the food was passable at best and probably poor value for the money.
Would pop back by for a pint but not much else.
A. P.
Overpriced but fairly nice. Enjoyable view
S. G.
Excellent food Pat, thank you for the Atlantic Cod! That sauce was something else! And the Argy Bargy was ace too, especially the minty mushy peas. Great service from Antonio too, great place by the river. Thank you :o)
L. F.
Good for a pint on a summer evening
W. R.
I love this place...
D. M.
Looks like a nice reno inside but we sat along the river and enjoyed a number of good pints and wonderful steak sandwich specials for lunch. The sun shone and it was a great day to be there.
I. G.
Nice place at river side in West London, with a wide space for dining with AC. Cool to have a beer or glass of wine sitting down in front of Thames River.
K. T.
Great lamb rump in a chorizo sauce dish. Expensive but cooked to perfection. Great pit stop just off the beaten track on way back to South Wales after busy day shopping and sightseeing in central London.
a. k.
Nice place but most of the tables were dirty. No parking of its own. Had to park at nearby waitrose car park, which was free for 2 hours. Order arrived fairly quick.
L. G.
Lovely lunch with friends today. Food was delicious, genial atmosphere, friendly service. Great walk riverside afterwards, amazing location.
G. T.
The City Barge is primarily a gastro pub, with very good food at reasonable prices and a very good range of ales. Its location by the Thames at Strand on the Green is second to none.
A. T. S. L.
Best peppercorn steak sauce EVER, Great cheeseboard and really lively atmosphere in a great location by the river. My top pick for Riverside pub
T. R.
Nice food. Nice view. A bit pricey.
N. H.
Great welcome from the team plus acceptable pub grub catering for all tastes
C. M.
Theo & team are 10/10 can not recommend more
l.
Even though the menu always has great sounding items to choose from, I've never been able to order anything but the Crab-o-cado. It's to die for! I've had it at least 20 times! YUM!
J. W.
Great spot - more a restaurant with a bar than a pub with a restaurant. Amazing location by the Thames - you can sit by the river, food is good, great for Sunday lunch
F. H.
We had a very good meal. Great river view.
S. R.
Great venue beside the river. Served the best tasting fish and chips I've ever had by beautiful people.
I. V.
Lovely pub on the Thames path. Good place to go to chill or have a few drinks with friends.
J. P.

P. T.
Lovely pub and good menu.
V. V.
Great location, right on the river. A must if you have out of town visitors. Take the tube to Gunnersbury and walk, so you can drink and not worry about driving.
Y. C.
Staff very pleasant. I sat outside, seemed nice and clean. But very expensive.
O. A.
Consistently excellent food, very good service and extremely well managed by Rob. Outside tables by the Thames are a real treat for lunch on sunny weekends but make sure you get there early.
E. B.
Had a lovely dinner here. Food was super and the staff very friendly. Would definitely eat here again
D. G.
My birthday treat: their Thai Green Vegan Curry is to die for. An excellent lunchtime location overlooking the Thames.
m. t.
Comprehensive drinks selection. Attentive focused staff, great food, brilliant location. What's not to like? Go there.
A.
Great breakfast, with exceptional waiting staff. could have been a little cheaper, but the quality was good enough to justify the price.
B. G.
Good beer, good food.
Great service too from Theo and everyone else.
M. H.
Really nice place but it’s overpriced.
I essentially had a chicken breast and some vegetables and it was nearly £20..
But it is a nice location by the river.
T. G.
Great pub. They even made the car park look like a nice garden and seating area.
N. M.
Awesome service from Rafael.
A. D.
Great location and the food was very nice. It looks a little pricey but the location I guess warrants that. A great selection of beers too.
R. R.
Went with friends to eat. Cozy pub/restaurant with a great view over the Thames river. Good food.
P. R.
Lovely spot by the river. Had a private room which was excellent for catching up with a large group of friends. Food was great as well!
V. B.
Lovely location, interior recently refurbished, but mantained the original 14th century lay out. Food was carefully prepated and had a good selection of beer and whisky
R. S.
Lovely location, good food, friendly staff. During busy times service can be a bit slow, just enjoy your time while you wait :) Private room available
T. M.
A lovely riverside pub, family friendly with large dining area, outside seating to front and rear and limited parking as well. It is a bit pricey though.
P. R.
Good beer and friendly staff 👍
T. B.
Waiter was absolutely miserable, I felt really sorry for bothering him with my order. Food was good but that service needs a hell of a lot of work.
S. G.
Great food good service . Very polite mature crowd. Covid ready .. clean and welcoming
r. j.
One of the best pubs on or near the river brill ambience, superb staff, helpful , and friendly, it's a must in the summer ( or any time really)honest you will not be disappointed
P. L.
Great experience, as it's a dog friendly pub. Not all dogs were friendly, but you get that 🐕. The food was excellent especially the chicken kiev
H. L.
Good large pub, with above average food. With a small car park but some parking on street after noon.
M. H.
The food was good and they were accommodating with our kids and special requests. Beautiful location with windows looking out over the river.

Staff friendly and engaging.
Well worth a visit
B. F.
Really enjoyed the food, casual relaxed ambiance. Great burger and great overall experience, a must go to if you leave nearby..
D. S.
Lazy Thursday afternoon
Food quality was superb and range of choice extensive
Slightly dearer than traditional pub grub, but the quality of the meal justified it
Great service both at the bar and outside for lunch
Tables overlooking the Thames, less than six feet away
Toilets spotlessly clean
Staff incredibly friendly and helpful
Go for a stroll, call in, sit, eat, drink and you can't fail to enjoy.
a. s.
Excellent service by Raphael!
B. A.
On our way up to Kew Gardens we stopped in for a pint or two knowing from our Beatles trivia guide that this pub was used in the filming of "Help" we had to check it out. Boisterous locals made it all the better. Only the outside and areas just west along the towway were used in the film, still it is a must for any Beatle enthusiast. Stick to the beer as the food well.........needs a little Help.
A. B. K.
Perfect service from Raphael!
F.
A very elegant pub, lovely to visit in the summer and sit out by the river - the main meals are a little pricey though (although very very nice!)
M. H.
