Reviews of The Crown & Cushion
R. T.
Absolutely loved it, great staff, food is to die for, fresh standard quality food. Loved it & very filling. Loved the concept of a traditional pub on lower level & then a Thai restaurant layout upstairs. Hope to see a franchise in Leeds, U.K. 👍🏽😎🙏🏽
J. C.
Very relaxed/laid back atmosphere. But we did get there before they started serving food. Staff was very lovely and the drinks were good! What more could you ask for?
S. N.
Thank God this scruffy Irish bar with fantastic Guinness and with the best Laos and Thai food in the area has survived the Pandemic (26/5 & 15 /7/21 & 9/2/22). Good to see sports and with a cracking atmosphere. Try the mixed starters as a sharer and the raw salmon salad in hot weather. We try to pop by about once a month. New Menu wirh many more Laos items, tried Mok Pa Catfish cooked in a banana leaf with spices.- hot, sour and served with sticky rice (eat with fingers) absolutely delicious. The new duck larb (Laab Ped) was very tasty with ground roasted rice which adds a nutty flavour. . Seriously good food for reasonable price. Post Covid, furniture moves to make it safer are appreciated.
P. C.
Very nice neighborhood pub. Very local, but I can recommend it for tourists also, if you want to be with real londoners. Good food for reasonable prices.
C. H.
This was an amazing find! Having finished a Thames cruise we were hungry. With the help of TripAdvisor we walked to The Crown & Cushion.
With the feel of an Irish pub, the beer was well kept and tasty. This pub also provided a choice of Thai and Loos food. Both are fantastic! This pub is definitely worth a visit and given the choice, we'll go back.
D. H.
Great pub, many a good night there. Thai food is excellent and a bit quirky
..given this is an Irish pub. Charlene always has a smile...well mostly 😊
R. M.
Really lovely Irish pub. Real people, cool vibe and Lisa was super lovely, caring and attentive. I felt very safe in her pub. Will definitely make this a regular.

Frdiay 3/12/21

I could have stayed there all day.

We stumbled across this place on our walk back to our hotel and we ended up stopping in here, everyday of our stay in London. Cozy classic English Pub with great ambiance, a cool patio out back, affordable drinks and friendly staff! Cheers!
G. L.
What a combo. Down to earth irish bar with well kept beer, and awesome thai food at reasonable prices.
g. s.
Long standing fan of the classic British pub and the hidden gem of the Laos/Thai food on offer.
A. “. G. W.
Great tasting authentic Thai found in the most expected English pub in Waterloo. Prices are decent and my Thai friend was super impressed!
K.
The Lao food restaraunt upstairs is authentic AF. A must try!
Pub beers are also very fresh and well kept.
A. V.
Wonderful pub and upstairs very good lao food.
G. K.
Amazing place, lovely atmosphere and the thai food is to die for honestly. Been here a few times. The staff are lovely as ever, drinks keep flowing and food is exceptional!
G. C.
Lovely Irish bar in Waterloo, good choice of beers with professional and attentive staff.
M. T.
An English pub with a Thai restaurant upstairs. Good food and nice staff. They have many Thai options and always come here whenever I have a chance
R. G.
Brilliant pub friendly staff and beautiful food
A. E.
A typical English pub at times can be noisey and nowhere to sit. Friendly staff and has a relaxing atmosphere, but have never tried the food on offer. Drinks very reasonably priced.
T. L.
best pub I have ever been to in london, friendly staff good food and carling at £4.50, which in london is decent
R. R.
Nice friendly pub, nice interior, good beer and very decent thai and lao food. I really liked their lao sausage
R. M.
Food is good authentic Thai and reasonably priced for London, will now be my go to place for food in Westminster!
D. L.
Good old style pub. Good range of beers. Friendly staff
g. t.
Great food, good regulars pub with great staff
M. D.
Propper little pub not many left great value great stuff
D. N.
Proper crusty old pub, makes a change in London, reasonable Thai food. Cheap drinks for the area too.
C. F.
There's a thai restaurant pretty much hidden upstairs that is really, really good.
P. B.
A lovely old pub well worth a visit. the set menu is Thai, and traditional pub food ,nice and clean
R. R.
There's a nice pub and a restaurant upstairs. There's something about the atmosphere here that we like. It's not too big, there's an outside area with the brick seats if you smoke and it's all right in there. If I'm around Waterloo I'd check it out, it's a bit different without trying to be so, loads of signs from Ireland and all the counties. Also the food upstairs is good, I've had it a few times they do sticky rice nicely.
P. M.
Not sure I should share this but what a little gem! The Thai food, yes Thai food and Irish pub are seldom bedfellows but this is lovely. Don't expect great service but the food was delicious at an extremely attractive price. The bar service was a bit miserable but the beer was on form. Two course meal of good portions for under £15 in London!! The courses came in the correct order unlike Wagamama the night before!
G. S.
Cheap drinks , a great atmosphere, not just friendly staff but the regulars are welcoming too. If Charlene is serving, ask her for her specialist shot drink which involves baileys and snapps. ...it is soooo smooth . If open try the Thai restaurant upstairs.
s. p.
Another proper London Pub, run by the Irish..love that..Always good hospitalty in an Irish pub..Guiness well served..I remember it before it started the Chinese food .Not the biggest of Pubs but quite nice..Small yard out the back.
P. G.
Great old fashioned "Brown boozer" run by Irish couple and populated with locals and after work authentic drinkers. Great reasonably priced food. There's not many of these places left around here.
C. R.
Google showed The Crown & Cushion as the best pub in walking distance to us so we went there. Very glad we did. I asked the bartender about a famous drink in London that is apparently not on the menu. She made it special for me. I was thrilled. The other two people I was with got drinks as well and they said it was great. Cool environment watching sports as well.
G. L.
Great place. Friendly staff and good service. Toilets let the place down...badly
M. D.
We had just come off the Big Bus tour and river cruise and were looking for somewhere close to eat. Trip Advisor app suggested the Crown & Cushion less than 300 yards from the London Eye. We followed the navigation and after about a 5 minute walk we arrived at the location. Don't judge a book by it's cover (the outside needs a lick of paint) We went inside and found a table. There was plenty of room although there were a good number of people inside. We ordered some drinks and asked to see the menu. The food on offer was a really nice selection of pub classics, Thai, Vietnamese and Lao food. We both decided to try the Thai Pad Thai. Our food was brought out after a very short wait. The presentation and portion sizes were really good. The taste was authentic and absolutely delicious. Well flavored and spiced to perfection.
We had 2 rounds of beers and both meals came to less than £30 which is absolutely the best value for money lunch I have had in a long time.
Very well done and very highly recommended!!

Been stopping off here, on my way back from hospital, for a few months now. Proper Irish pub with cheap booze (for London) served by friendly staff in a great atmosphere. Excellent authentic Thai food available at very reasonable prices. I typically have a king prawn dish, washed down with a pint of cider for £12. I don't know where to get better value in Central London. Well worth a detour if you're near Waterloo, London Eye, Old Vic etc.
T. O.
I didn't eat here but was visiting London and came here to watch a football match. The atmosphere was friendly and it was a proper traditional pub with a small outside courtyard . The beer was good. I couldn't have asked for better to watch some sport over a good pint.
s.
Proper English boozer, surprisingly close to central. Hasn't been turned into some gastro pub nonsense.
C. B.
Great local pub close to the station. Good price for beer given the area you are in at less than £4 a pint for bitter. Friendly staff and quick service, although it was reasonably busy there on a Saturday at 4pm there was still plenty of seats. Definitely return here again when next passing.
C. W.
Stumbled upon this place while out walking, cheap beer , good mix of Thai food and pub food. Seemed like a lively places as there was some games on the tv!
J. S.
Best old school boozer in Waterloo by far. Football, pints, no frills - and they do good Thia food to soak it all up
B. J.
Cracking little pub, good little singalong with some locals, great fun
J. B.
One of my favorite pubs in London. I always find my way to this place each time I am in town. Drink prices are good and the crowd is decidedly local. I always meet interesting people when I am there. Everyone is very friendly. Lock in on a Saturday night is not to be missed but make sure you arrive by 2230.
S. N.
Traditional Irish pub with a twist...actually an Irish/Thai pub! Filled with friendly locals (many escaping thier wives for "a peaceful hour") ...and a Thai restaurant upstairs. The food is super authentic, tasty and well priced. Good beer selection to complement.
P. W.
A cosy pub perfect for Thursday evenings. Nice beer and chips. The Thai food comes in great portion and tastes good.
R. F.
It was the only place on the street that was showing the Campions League game. Pretty packed, basic pub. Decent prices.Stayed locally. Enjoyed our visit. Reasonable prices. Let down by one member of bar staff during the evening who was more interested in serving her friends / regulars whilst stuffing her face.
N. D.
Lovely quiet Irish pub . Friendly staff , good ales. Thai food is also on the menu.
T. D. T.
Great steak and chips. Plentiful beers on tap.
B.
Nice friendly pub, price is reasonable. Beer is £1.500 cheaper than most local pubs
P. M.
Re-review this scruffy Irish bar with first class Thai food upstairs. Beer is excellent served by barstaff that care. Again, didn't eat but it looked good. I took one star off due the blaring football, but barman turned it down without murmur on request. Liked the beer, liked the place. Turn the television volume to off. Cheers.
D. L.
Great place, pub and Thai food, odd combo but good service with good food.
J. W.
amazing decor! lots of delightful historical Guinness marketing material. old music - Sam Cooke and Aretha came on at some point. cheap beer. and Sky Sports despite the otherwise traditional feel. the food is very average, but for drinking in the area this is the place to go.
J. N.
We randomly popped into this pub while visiting London (we're from Canada) and it was great! The bartender was lovely and we loved how cosy the pub felt. There's a lot to look at, and the Strongbow from the tap was crisp and delicious!
The next time we come visit London, we'll definitely be back!
A. L. F.
Great pub / Thai restaurant combo you can either have your food brought you down in the pub or you can take your drinks up to the restaurant.... Drink wise its nothing special but lovely staff and reasonable prices. The food is fantastic definitely have mixed starter.
T. F. K.
Local pub feel in Waterloo.. + Thai bar food
L. G.
Strange pairing with the upstairs Thai restaurant but anyway both are good. Prices are low looking at the fact where you are in the city. Would visit again if possible. Stay alert that the pub area is almost always packed.
M. C.
Visited The Crown & Cushion a couple of times recently, this is a great traditional family friendly pub with great friendly staff as well as fantastic fairly priced English and Thai food.
I would definitely go here again if I'm in the lower marsh area and would highly recommend this pub to any and everyone.
S. M.
Most welcoming staff and great prices for drinks. Must try the Thai / Lao food that is served upstairs (will happily doing you for down in the pub area).
H. D.
Came here for the Thai food, but was pleasantly surprised by the Laotian food. Like other reviews, pricing was very reasonable. Service was great. The Lao grilled fish lettuce wrap was a hit, especially with the fresh greens - baby dill, peppermint, cherry tomatoes, diced cucumbers, sliced fresh garlics, cilantro, and lettuce. Killer was the dipping chili pineapple sauce. The Thai green curry was very aromatic with a balanced amount of heat & spices. The Lao stewed pork & egg reminded us of an identical Vietnamese dish. The stir fried shrimp dish wasn’t great, but the sauce & sautéed veggies made up for the shrimps. Topped it off with the finger licking good fried bananas & vanilla ice cream. Location was walking distance from our Marlin Waterloo hotel. Great find during our London visit. Cheers.
K. T.
Nice area and extreamly nice venue . Very plush staff very friendly atmosphere electric.
k. t.
Good beer. Great guinness. Thai food from upstairs restaurant is reasonably priced, ok portions and very tastey.
The restaurant upstairs is techinically a different business and will not supply beer from below. If you want a great pint with good food eat downstairs.
L.
Proper pub, okay service, good place to watch football.
H. W.
Irish pub with a good selection of beers and lagers. Slightly quirky with memorabilia. Only 3 stars as they had 3 different TVs on the go on different channels with the sound up on all of them.
L. C.
Great Guinness and nice cosy interior
G. S.
The upstairs restaurant hosted my retirement lunch. The food was excellent, and so was the service. Wonderfully freshly-cooked Thai dishes efficiently served. Good value too.
P. G.
Very helpful bar staff. A nice, old-fashioned hostelry that's managed to avoid the Farrow & Ball gastropub make-over typical of so many places in this part of London. Clearly some devoted regulars here.
G. W.
What a great pub, beer kept well, thai menu with interesting items, was showing the football but it didn't take over the pub
Didn't eat but will be back to try the food and when we do I expect it will be 5 stars
P. K.
I went last night for the first time in many years; it does not seem to have changed much. Due to this being the week before Xmas, the place was pretty full, noisy, and there was nowhere to sit, except outside. But the beer was good, and inexpensive by London standards, and for crisp (US "chip") aficionados, note that they have the Irish "Tayto" brand!
Z. D.
Quiet, amazing, Thai restaurant upstairs. One of the best pubs in southwark
S. D. C.
A cosy pub with a rather fantastic South-East Asian restaurant on the first floor. Great food, reasonably priced and friendly staff. The iced milk tea is delicious and they are one of the few places I know that serve Lao food. Portions are generous.
M. C.
Very traditional pub but looks very tired. Ales are good but not much choice. Restaurant upstairs has a lot of choice. Thai, Laoation and Pub grub. What we ordered was quick and very nice.
J. J.
We had a 'team meal' upstairs on the Thai menu. Atmosphere in the bar is good (London pub classic) food was good and pretty well priced. I would go back if in the area.
D. E. (.
Came here for christmas drinks and meal with friends was not disappointed at all. Decent selections of beers and other drinks. Food did seem out of place thai but I really enjoyed it all not too spicy and very generous portions as well at a not bad price defo recommend it even if you are not drinking there.
W. R.
Lovely little pub which serves deliclious Thai and Lao food.
A. S.
Had a beer and bar meal here during a few days away in London . Was surprised at the excellent Thai food on offer, the reasonable prices and the friendly service. Well worth a visit.
I. H.
A good local type pub (one's I like to find). The best thing about the Crown and cushion apart from its friendliness was the Lao food. Loved it, went back again before we left for more.
J. G.
Loth to publicise this place as it is a bit of a hidden gem in central London. Walking distance from Westminster, but not a tourist in sight. Thai food. Usually 3 real ales. Vaping friendly.
A. L.
Doesn't look too nice from the outside, but it's a good traditional London pub. Unfortunately there are Sports TV screens everywhere, which massively detract from the experience
T. O.
I didn't eat here but was visiting London and came here to watch a football match. The atmosphere was friendly and it was a proper traditional pub with a small outside courtyard . The beer was good. I couldn't have asked for better to watch some sport over a good pint.

Loved this place. Great service, great atmosphere and music. Definitely go back for sure

G. K.
Great Pub with a interesting twist! Staff is wonderfull and food is awesome, best of all prices are reasonable! We would recommend it to everyone!
A. M.
Asian food is pretty authentic, the wait times for food we experienced were really bad. They asked if ee are ok with 30 minutes wait on food, it then came after 1 hour 10 min. Staff was friendly.
D. C.
Proper Irish pub no gimmicks. Sport on TVs and great juke box. Also do food. Staff lovely.
J. F.
One of my favourite Irish pubs, great Laos and Thai food, very reasonable and the staff are great!... Guinness is not bad too!

Average Irish Pub w Smoking Garden. Beer is cheap, staff serves quick. Many workers and locals there. Could do with internal refurbishment.

Great local pub. We went for drinks and had a great time. Off the beaten path from the regular tourist sites.
J. W.
Great food , great Guinness, don’t need much else
S. R.
This is a great "old fashioned" boozer. Great service, interesting characters in the bar and a pint of Old Speckled Hen at £3. You could do some serious damage to your liver in here.... love it!
m. p.
Great tasting food and great prices. A family owned affair tucked above an irish pub in Waterloo. It all works! Say hello to Vicky!
T. J.

Very friendly bartenders, decent drinks, cozy atmosphere. There is very limited seating, but as a small Pub that is to be expected.

Great, cheap Thai food. Can be noisy downstairs in the pub area, but there is s quieter basic resto area upstairs.
F. M.
Delicious Thai food, good pub grub for the kids, and a great pint!

Don't let the outside deceive you! It may looks like an old geezers Irish pub on the inside but the Lao/Thai food served here is a hidden gem.
D.
Proper pub in an area where there are less and less.
One staff really friendly and efficient , other one so rude and unfriendly was almost comedy...
