Reviews of The Duke of Richmond

Staff here are so helpful! I was lost in the big city and these guys came to my rescue! Alberto and Kaci were wonderful and took the time to help me out in my time of need! The wine and whisky weren't half bad either. Honestly though I am so appreciative for the support. My phone was dead and I was lost and the they took the time to call me a taxi and make sure I was okay. Can't thank you enough! Will be back for dinner on my next visit to London. Cheers 🍻

Really excellent food. Service was a mixed bag: between extremely attentive and a bit slow... but it was new years eve so can be forgiven. Will definitely return for the food and happy hour.
S. M.
Top-notch food. The service was welcoming, with good advice on the menu and wine but not in-your-face; what's not to love? We all liked the uncluttered but still cosy ambience. The seasonal skrei cod was perfectly cooked; its bed of romescu sauce was flavoursome and a nice, contrasting texture to the firm fish. Friends had the oysters and steaks and were very happy customers. The Café liegeois to die for. Will go again.
V. O.
Not really a pub, more of a restaurant. But the food was delicious and the service is friendly. Everyone in our group had really good meals on a Thursday evening. Also the bernaise sauce and fries are out of control. YUM
H. T.
The food is delicious and the service is great. We both had a cauliflower roast - it was excellent. We just about made room for the lemon posset and we were very happy we did - it was delicious. Have been here a few times now and the food has always been really good and the staff are always friendly. Definitely recommend.

What a gorgeous little pub with an lovely inviting vibe. The owner is so easy to talk to and made me feel at ease the moment I turned up there. The food is delicious I'm not one for salads but i saw someone else get one so I ordered the same and wasn't disappointed. I liked the place so much I'm looking to host some events there. It is a short walk from Darlston station.
S. C.
Amazing food. Scallop starter with a mozzarella salad with peach, chunky tasty pork chop. Maybe some lighter dishes ok the menu too would be nice. Great service. Lovely ambience. A little expensive. But very very nice.
B. A.
The service was very good friendly staff.
The food was absolutely delicious cooked to perfection 🥰
C. S.
Consistently excellent. The menu is varied and every meal beautifully balanced and perfectly executed. The only drawback is getting there through Hackney's nightmare network of LTNs which have caused more problems than they have cured.

I went to the Duke of Richmond for New year's Eve. We had a fantastic night!!! Great staff and delicious food. 3 amazing courses for £ 55!!! Highly recommended!!!
j. i.
I had a Roastbeef dinner which although it was really good I thought £22:50 was a little bit steep considering starters and puddings were extra. Besides the cost I found that overall in was a nicely presented meal.
S. H.
Classy gastropub with high quality food and professional service. It’s a relatively new pub (opened in 2018) by Tom Oldroyd (previously chef-director of Polpo and also owner of Oldroyd restaurant in Islington). This cosy neighbourhood pub offers French food made from British ingredients, and a good selection of cocktails, beers and wine. There is also an outside area which catches the afternoon sun and is great for summer evening drinks and snacks. It’s not cheap to eat here but is probably a good value for the quality of food and service you receive.
J. A. C.
The staffs are really kind and warm welcome.
Food is good and I love this restaurant’s atmosphere.
Also highly recommend their beer!
E. M.
Fantastic lunch here - great menu and drinks selection. Good service. Worth booking.
N. C.
Friendly staff, good food and selection of drinks. Don't miss the happy hour
A. W.
I came here for the Crisps, and Tayto did not disappoint, also top Mulet by the bar tender
B. L.
Great restaurant/pub with some gorgeously rich food and drink at reasonable prices.
Went here recently for a friend's birthday dinner. Great atmosphere blending the pub and restaurant vibe nicely.
The food was great, had the fig and goats cheese tart to start with which was not only delicious but also light and crispy. I chased this up with a venison and pork fat burger which was just as good as it sounds. I even had room (just about) for the snickers ice cream for dessert, two scoops of that and I was comfortably plump with great food.
All the staff were attentive to our table and even with a mistaken order (which could have been anyone's mistake tbh as it was busy) couldn't have been more accommodating around the replacement dish. I was even comped a drink as an apology which was appreciated. (Apologies I can't mention you by name here as I didn't think to get it before we left).
All in all a great evening and great food so would recommend to anyone looking for the next ring above the typical gastro pub dining experience.
L. P.
Fabulous food last night for a birthday party. Would highly recommend a visit
J. C.
Lovely food and a great location. I highly recommend the chicken pie with chicken skin mash. It was absolutely delicious.
D. A. C.
I booked few tables in the garde for a leaving do, Chrissy was very kind and professional, we had a lovely time.
Great burgers!! The Duke Burger strongly recommended.
S. S.
good busy pub near London fields. Helpful staff and tasty food.
J. B.
Thought we'd give this a go being local - had to wait 30minutes for the table we'd booked, although other parties of the same size were going in after arriving later, which seemed a bit odd. Overcharged on the bill, but sorted in the end. Food-wise, mozzarella starter was good, burger was decent, but not incredible. A slightly more varied menu would've been appreciated. Overall good, but not amazing. Enjoyable candlelit ambience and interior.
A. C.
Wonderful as usual! Whether eating in during non-COVID times, or ordering pick up, the burgers are delicious as is the buttery vegetarian malfatti. When you can sit in, the cocktails are also definitely worth a tipple. Highly recommend local gastropub!!
S. P.
Great food, tasteful ambiance and attentive and friendly service. Really enjoyed the cocktails too, which were £5 a piece during happy hour - so good! Duke of Richmond is a neighborhood gem.
K. J.
Eeerrrr, why is this place and it’s chef/owner Tom not on more people’s radars???? We only had the small bites and starters this trip but, my goodness, they were terrific!!! Those that know will know that Raw Red Sicilian Prawns in rosemary and orange won’t appear on menu “Sunday lunch menus”!!! And they were Great as was the tomato tart and cheesy,shoux-y, oniony balls that I can’t pronounce... like a French onion soup in pastry form!! Delicious!! And I’ve not even mentioned the Crab and Chip Butty!!! No words left. Awesome service (despite what server thought :)) , great music, great drinks. Great place!! We’ll be back for the evening offers and Sunday lunch. Great vibe!! Awesome food (well done Tom!)
A. K.
This is a lovely place for a meal, we came on a Sunday and all had excellent roasts. On the slightly pricey side, but plenty of food and a bit fancier than your average roast. The setting is great as well and the staff are all incredibly friendly and attentive
J.
The food here is good but the service is really chaotic (although the staff are really friendly). Two floor staff tried to take our orders. We were given the mains before our entrees and we told them, they only returned with the right entree for one person. We were then asked if we wanted gravy with our Sunday roasts (there was a little gravy on our plates), we said yes and was charged extra £2 for the gravy without indicating they cost extra. This is likewise for Yorkshire puddings. Most pubs have gravy and Yorkshire puddings as standard and if they are considered as extras, the floor staff should mention to the guests. Just my two cents worth...
M. S. B.
The staff are the best in the world, My regards to Elly.. She is a wonderful person.
V. C.
What a lovely place. Friendly staff, good wine list and really excellent food. I had the roast cod, which was delicious, and my husband had the shoulder of pork, which was also excellent, moist and very tasty, and with fabulous cracking. Will definitely be going back.
G. P.
if you want to eat a good meal on a Sunday with your family , and your friends and in the week and have a good time this is the place to be
A. H.
I recently went for a Sunday roast here and was really impressed with the attentive and friendly service. The beef was cooked to perfection and the veggie roast was really tasty too. I would also recommend getting the cauliflower cheese on the side!
T. L.
Wow! What a hidden gem! We have been twice for Sunday lunch, it’s been such a high standard of food.
To start we had the Olive tart and summer strawberry salad with Jamon. They were both so light and fresh. The lamb main course was incredible and they make cheese Yorkshire pudding that are next level!
Sunday lunch in London isn’t normally very good, but I couldn’t recommend this place any more!
A. K.
Our first UK pub experience! Staff were friendly, a variety of beer on tap and chicken dinner had an incredible mustard sauce. Cozy pub experience with slightly upscale twist on food that doesn't break the bank. Really reminded us of Gastro Pubs back home in Canada. Travelers should check it out!
D. M.
Simply delicious food. A small menu but that is always a sign of care in the kitchen as far as I am concerned. I had the steak and chips. The chips did not get out of the kitchen as they were considered not up to scratch by chef. Soon sorted but I’d rather chef spotted a problem rather than me having to complain - again a plus. Reasonably value for this quality of food in London.

Lovely place, great staff, excellent food & drinks - nothing more to say
J. C.
Posting as the staff were really friendly and were helpful and welcoming to the point where I came back an hour later for a pint as they hadn’t opened when I initially stuck my head in. Seems like a good gaff.
M. H.
The crab bun is mighty tasty. The mains were fine (the burger was good). The service was pleasant but had two major failings. Firstly, we waited 20 minutes from ordering our drinks to being served them. Secondly, the mains arrived straight after our starters were cleared (I mean within a minute) which is a basic timing error by the kitchen.
g. p.
Had the most delicious lunch here today - was seriously impressed , I had two fish dishes that were outstanding. Definitely recommend
K. A.
Absolutely delicious food and great, friendly service. They “theme” many an occasion (e.g free Bloody Mary brunches on Saturday and a Mum and Dad lunch on Thursdays) -
worth checking out what is on before you go down there.
C. B.
Very nice for the oyster happy hour.
How ever outside the oyster the menu is expensive for what you get. Food is nice but without plus
B. F.
Food was excellent, service also. One criticism is the lack of a decent ale. Get in Youngs or Fullers and stop indulging at best average craft breweries
J. T.
Great Sunday roast and a pint of Guinness like bk home in donegal
a. b.
Super funky pub. Loved the feeling of being somewhere local and cosy after lockdown. The food is excellent, service impeccable and killer cocktails topped off a lazy evening
W. D.
Friendly, nice covered outside space- perfect for us as it started raining...and great wine selection!
K. A.
This place is amazing.
Sssssh, don't tell anyone otherwise I won't be able to get a table any more.
j. p.
Amazing oyster selection and drinks range.. Great french beers and wines too, been a few times and going back next week too
S. A.
Popped in for a pint and stay for dinner. Freindly knowlegdeable staff, great decor and atmosphere with lovely food and all very reasonably priced. Good selection of beers and good wine list. Great pub and will definately be back.
J. W.
Went with a large group of 7 people and ordered starters and mains to all share. All the food was really impressive with great quality and flavor and great for sharing, nothing disappointed. As mains we shared the Porterhouse steak and Longhorn short ribs which were excellent choices. Service was a bit hit and miss especially considering it was a quiet night. Would eat here again.
A. S.
Come here for the half price oysters; large variety and excellent. Food is also good but a bit overpriced.
R.
Went for a birthday party with a large group and few kids. Food delicious and staff really lovely and helpful.
I. O.
Nice place for a beer. Food looks good too but we didn't try it. Nice atmosphere, just not the most comfortable seating.
M. T.
Had a great Sunday afternoon there with 10 friends for lunch. Great food and good service
J. G.
Mothers Day lunch at the Richmond, was OK. Great quality food good size portions but, yet again a lot of the food on the menu was not available. Service was very good. But the whole restaurant lacks authenticity. I do think it is time for a restaurant that has great food but still is affordable. We supported LMT. What a great lose to the area.
C. D. G.
I've only been to their oyster happy hour. They have an interesting selection of oysters and a very good wine list, but the prices are fairly high.
M. A.
Best roast dinner in ages, lamb was delicious. Lack of chocolate on my cappuccino - still gets 5 stars though!
A. S.
Great and friendly pub outside of dalston crowded area. Food is excellent as well as reception.
L. E.
Love the cocktails and the food. Also staff are very friendly and helpful.
S. K.
Lovely attentive staff. Not a huge menu, but a lovely atmosphere. Only 4 stars because of the lack of choices on the menu.
J. G.
The food was all right. Quite pricey. Overall atmosphere is a bit fussy for Dalston.
S. D.
Good food, service and quiet atmosphere. Not a huge menu, which is refreshing, and good range of complementary wines.
A. L.
Lovely neighborhood pub, delicious food and great service. Family friendly and very accommodating. A real gem in the neighborhood.
D. C. (.
Local treasure. Great food, drinks selection and wonderfully knowledgable and friendly staff
P. P.
My first time here and I had an amazing time. The food is very good and the place is very cozy. Really recommend.
A. Y.
Great food and ambiance, with friendly staff.
A. C.
Impressive oyster selection, settle in and do a tasting at their £1 happy hour!
S. L.
Quality food and friendly service. Nothing else in the area quite like it!
L. D.
Amazing food. Great beer and super friendly staff
S. H.
Nice place and friendly staff - roast was good without being exceptional, although very generous portions of meat.
i. t.
Fantastic place to eat. Quite busy but it was a Sunday. Vegetarian soup was to die for
V. G.
Been here a lot and the food is always great, the atmosphere relaxed and the staff friendly. Love it!
R.
Portions are small but food was nice. Staff are lovely and give the place a nice atmosphere
G. T.
Lovely little spot with amazing food! And now that they're doing brunch too, it's going to be tough to stay away!
J. P.
Classy little neighbourhood spot. Food is almost four star. Nice fit out inside. A little expensive for what it is though. You can get more bang for your buck at Rotorino just down the road. Some inventive dishes - the Gorgonzola gratin was yum. Staff were faultless.
C. J.
Nice enough food and atmosphere. Just a bit disappointing for the price and the service was slow (although nice staff). Doesn't really live up to its reputation and my hopes.
G. B.
• nice atmosphere • great service • fresh flowers • nice natural light • great vibe • excellent food • rich • mond •
R. B.
Good food, the staff we ok but I found it a little over priced, clean over all
J. H.
Great burgers (for a special price on Mondays), beers, and atmosphere!
H. D.
It was nice but we only ordered drinks took a little long to come otherwise not bad
G. S.
THE best veggie gravey!!
D. M.
One of the best Sunday roasts I've had. Actually manner to get really crispy roast potatoes, which I've never had elsewhere
M. L.
Fantastic oyster happy hour - the entire selection is on offer at £1 per oyster and it is so nice to be able to taste the differences between different types of oysters and to see if you agree with the tasting notes. The sourdough bread basket is so fresh and mains are also very solid - perfectly cooked fish for our entire party of 5.
D. R.
Always delicious with great service. Highly recommend the crab butty
A. B.
Epic cheeseburger, lovely staff, good music.

Amazing service, amazing staff, delicious food and a relaxed atmosphere. Roast beef on a Sunday Yasssss 😍
C. C.
Love the mussels in deviled butter, and the beetroot, goat cheese and white peach salad. I usually dislike beef tartare, but the tartare prepared by this restaurant is gooooood. Total spend for 2 persons = GBP 50. Which is quite reasonable. Considering we had 1 main and 3 sharing plates.
B. K.
Incredible hidden gem - its really off the beaten track, but definitely should be visited if you love oysters.
They do an oyster happy hour (5-7pm on Saturdays, different times on weekdays). Their oyster selection is half price, so between £1.50 and £1.75 per oyster.
The other reviews were right - they have some of the best oysters I've ever had in London! My favourite was the Kumamoto, but you might prefer the rock or blackwater oysters if you like them a bit saltier and plumper. Fresh and tasty.
I'd just come from Wright Brothers that afternoon, where I also had happy hour oysters, and The Richmond was hands down the better choice. I'm definitely coming back here again for their oyster happy hour, but will also stay for dinner as their menu looked really interesting!
A. P.
Lovely! Great food, great service, great atmosphere! Will definitely return.

Nice decorations

Nice for a drink, especially in the seating area outside. Really chilled atmosphere inside and friendly staff. Didn't eat but the food looked amazing, only noticed there's not much of a selection for veggies, and zero vegan options. But epic choice for meat and seafood lovers.

Really good vibe about it, great beer and overall drinks options and the food we saw going past looked great.
Deffo somewhere we would go more if we lived a little closer!!
B. L.
Beyond excellent, this is not just pub good. Passionate and elevated, we come here alot!!!
C. T.
A truly excellent Sunday roast. Great selection and every dish was immaculately presented with great flavor. The vegan option of cauliflower was great. Prices are on the higher end for a pub roast but well worth it for the quality.
