Reviews of The Eagle Ale House
K. A.
Only good memories with this local. Simple selection of ales but they're all good and fresh. Friendly locals buzzing and there's usually always a canine friend somewhere so all good. Good to have this kind of a pub in the middle of Clapham. Will visit again next time I'm in the area.
M. B.
The Eagle is my favourite pub in South London. Their front door is actually a secret time machine. When you walk through it you are transported to exact time before all London pubs became gentrified and full of bellends. It's a real treasure. Long live the Eagle.
a. L.
Excellent local, traditional and friendly pub. Great ales and cider. A real authentic pub just off the northcote road.
A.
Long may these Indie pubs continue. Ask if the owner would check out Halletts or Devon Red ciders, like the Cidre Breton the punters would love them.
R. W.
A proper local and welcoming with it. London absolutely needs places like this to survive so I was surprised and pleased to see that gentrification and the relentless drive towards homogeneity has been repelled by the Eagle. Kudos. Go for the authentic feel and the characters.
T. C.
It's so great to have a real "local" in a gentrified area full of gastro pubs. My friend and I enjoyed a few hours of interesting ale and brilliant banter with the bar staff. Places like the Eagle and on the “use it or lose it” list so get yourself down there for an authentic boozer experience.
N. C.
Proper old boozer with a classic interior and well served ale. Pork pies on offer too!
C.
Very warm and welcoming staff and clients. Good quality Guinness and choice of whiskeys and rum. Great added bonus of a beer garden.
P. D.
Superb beer. I have never known one of their excellent locally brewed offerings, as they’re always served only beer from special local breweries but have always been offered a taste before buying. Have never ever been disappointed. Great pub. For aficionados of authentic great beer. A friendly small old school superb boozer.
L. C.
One of my favourite pubs in London. None of the nonsense of other establishments in the area - just good beer, great character and a friendly atmosphere. The garden out the back is covered so it's great come rain or shine. An old school country pub feel inside which is perfect for a cosy night in. Don't ever change!
D.
Best pub in South London. Focused on serving an interesting range of well kept beer at affordable prices which is what a good pub should be. A refreshing change from the chain pubs and food focused establishments that have began to dominate the area.
Always had a decent real ale selection and have now expanded into craft beers and the odd German beer on tap too. Local brewers like Belleville, Mondo and Wimbledon Brewery often feature which is good to see. Prices are reasonable, particularly considering the area. Garden has been renovated and is a lovely place for a pint in the sunshine.
Staff are friendly and service is prompt even when busy. Frequented by an array of unpretentious locals as well as beer enthusiasts from further afield.
J. M.
awesome place ! friendly knowledgeable staff and great beer. Top boozer would highly recommend
M. L.
A countrified locals pub just off Clapham High street. Dive in here if you want a cosy brown pub feel. Excellent professional staff offering fast table service.

T. B.
Old fashioned local pub, much loved by locals. Nothing ever changes, which is its appeal!
c. l.
Love this old school pub, and we were treated to an enthusiastic impromptu piano singsong while the fantastic teenage tennis star won.
S. M.
What can I say it is a hidden gem as 10 of us was out for a Christmas party and came across this pub to be welcome to two great barmaids Tony and Hali that showed us a great time, well the beer might have had something to do with it ha ha
Was great and would recommend it
A. M.
Ale pub with garden and outdoor seating. Lively cosy pub.
R. H.
Good old fashioned pub with proper ales. Outside spaces, front and back. A place to enjoy a beer, great conversation, and to watch some footie.
N. O.
An old school pub with a positive vibe. If you want to get away from what you'd usually find on/ off the northcote road this is a refreshing change
N. S.
Lovely local pub with great range of cask ales & local beers.
K. K.
Lovely old style pub with great ales. Friendly staff and regulars.
A. J.
Absolutely spot on pub. Delicious beers, great decor, awesome atmosphere. One of the very bests in London
T. v. d. D.
Excellent real Pub, one of the few in the area. Really friendly staff and atmosphere to it. A local treasure.
A. C.
Just moved round the corner and found this gem, not pretentious, classic pub, great atmosphere, great staff, great beer garden - very happy new locals!
N. d. J.
Great local pub! Best beer garden in the area and pour a very good Guinness.
K. G.
Nice pub with an old english charm and pints that wont cost you an arm and a leg
A. R.
The best kept real ales in west London. Cool cellar tempreture and a larger selection at the end of the week when trade is busier. Its the genuine local pub...regulars who welcome the occasional visitor (who soon become regulars). Friendly atmosphere and a place to chat, or read a book from the alcove bookshelves, looked after and curated by a regular. Just the place for a no frills pie and a pint. A rare London treasure of a place which is now celebrating escape from the restrictive 'beer tie' after 13 campaigning years. Next step is to ensure that Landlord Dave is able to renew his lease which comes up for renewal next year. We can't afford to lose this local treasure.
J. O.
Great selection of ales, good atmosphere and a beer garden too
P. B.
Nice pub.
Friendly punters and staff.
Perfect for a chat with a mate over a pint.
Seating could be a bit more comfortable.
Happy to have dogs.
No load music, I'm a drummer and like all sorts but you can't have a chat if the musics too load, other pubs should take note.
T. S.
Friendly staff.
Great beer garden at the rear.
Odd selection of bitters though.
G. S.
There’s a good reason the Good Pub Guide has the Eagle Ale House in its cover! This pub is run by two of the best publicans in the country and has a soul quite unlike any other pub I have ever been in.
Don’t expect frills, expect an honest, down to earth and very real House of Ale - this pub literally does what it says on the tin and even on a weeknight you can expect at least 6 guest ales.
If I had one grumble it would be that the fantastic events that Dave and Simon put on are too infrequent. My favourite has to be the Christmas Carol night with Dave conducting first one half of the pub and then the other in a riotous competition of song. Our nation’s finest carols have never been so enthusiastically sung.
One day this pub will change hands and we will lose something very special. I don’t go enough and I will forever lament. Cheers guys - don’t ever leave.
A. P.
Proper pub this, with good selection of independent ales; quiet back street; helpful staff and convivial atmosphere.
S. S.
The Eagle is a great asset to the area. Wide selection of beers, hand drawn and on tap, very relaxed atmosphere. Bar staff always very pleasant.Wide range of clientele from students to old guys, all looking like they feel at home.
P. K.
Perfect environment for a community ale house. The patrons and staff are friendly and welcoming to new humans and dogs alike. The beer selection is good, as are the whiskey choices. They appeared to have a small but reasonably good collection of gins and vodkas. I saw a few small food choices.
They have tables out front and a beer garden in back. I spotted a television inside and heard stories of a very full house during the world cup. They like cash but are happy to accept cards.
J. F.
Friendliest and most helpful bar staff in South London, a real hidden gem
A. W.
Awesome pub with great pork pies
P. D.
The very best in understanding how to find , keep and serve superb locally brewed beer. Really the Best I have every had in London. (40 years of intense research...) they seriously know what they are doing. Clearly something of a religion for them; and one that they have truly mastered. Great pub. Old school.
B. M.
The Eagle is the only pub you need. The gents behind the bar are the best and you cannot get a better pub than the Eagle. Spent the better part of 2 years frequenting the establishment. Family friendly and always fun to bring my son to watch football and rugby. Now that I have back home to the USA miss it everyday!
S. C.
Came here to watch my friend's band play - a terrific pub with friendly staff and locals. Will definitely return the next time I'm in the area. Oh, and the Guinness was in fine fettle.
J. L.
Good ales and beer garden. Barman was a bit surly for my liking so knocked it down one star. Will definitely return mind.
E. C.
Nice pub hidden way. Good atmosphere, great staff. Thank you guys
A. G.
It's a lovely pub, but tonight though beer in first class condition, choice bit limited. Would definitely return if beer choice expanded. Not inexpensive for all of that.
V. A.
Real local pub with good beers. Welcoming and comfortable, outside seating at the back. No need to dress up - just relax and enjoy the drinks, and the company if any. As it should be.
J. S.
My Dad runs the bar and it's a really nice London pub with a variety of beer a marquee and a cheerful environment to be in. As well as having friendly staff. A good place for sport lovers and people who like great real ale.
S. S.
Great selection of beers and ciders, friendly staff, TV but not obtrusive. Classic London pub. Doesn't do food, but I think they are ok with ordering in pizzas if you want to.
M. G.
This is my local as i live just around the corner. Introduced by my landlord who raved about it. I totally agree with him. Super relaxed pub. No hang ups or pretention, just good friendly people who are welcoming. Best beer garden in the Clapham area & a nice kind of busy on most days of the week. Try it.
A. E.
Great local pub, quiet but still a great atmosphere on a sunday early afternoon. Lovely friendly bar staff.
a. r.
Best pub in London, always try to visit when in UK and my mates are on board as well. Was alarmed to see the carpet had gone on my last visit, but hopefully the reply to a below review indicates this might be only temporary. It can't be understated how much a carpet lends to the overall cosiness of a boozer, both in terms of warmth and acoustics.
Never had a bad pint, chapeau cellarman. Staff lovely. A Northcote-proof oasis. See you soon!
O. C. G. -. P. A.
I was introduced to The Eagle in Chatham Road towards the end of my stay in Battersea four years ago by a friend who knew that I appreciate comfortable pubs with character and impeccably kept beer. From time to time I now travel c.90 minutes- some friends think I am mad to venture so far for a few pints but reaching The Eagle is always a joy for me on many levels.
B. K.
Lovely cute little pub. Fantastic interior and even better gardens
G. A.
A cracking little local pub, tucked away in the backstreets between Clapham Junction and Wandsworth Common. Don't be put off by the number of drinker who may stare at you when you enter, this is a very friendly, laid-back don't-make-em-like-this-anymore pub with nooks, crannies and an amazing selection of ales.
Yes, beer lovers will love this place. I rarely see the same ale twice and have rarely heard of some of the beers on tap. Cider drinkers can rejoice in a less-than-common permanent selection as well - the Pheasant Plucker cider is especially good.
Bar staff are chatty and friendly, and there's a very cosy beer garden as well. This place shows sport but it's not usually overly intrusive if you want a quiet drink in the corner. Sadly the don't serve food but, really, who needs it when the place is this cosy.
A. G.
Simple working man's local. No food, no nonsense. Great place to go read a book, play board games or just spend an afternoon with a few pints. Music was a mix of Hendrix and other classics. Worth a visit if you're in the area.
R. S.
One of the last (if not the last) traditional pub left in an area which has seen a huge change in recent years. A lovely, inviting place with decent, well served beer, pies on the counter and friendly staff.
K. S.
Lovely small traditional pub with a very local feel. Visited it for the first time in 20 years. Great to see it hadn't changed, long may it last.
J. M.
Good seating area and good social distancing. Decent choice of drinks and bar snacks. Staff are also really friendly
L. P.
A very good boozer - arguably the best Guinness I've had in London
O. G.
Classic old pub with good selection of beers and a cosy timeless atmosphere. Some interesting rugby memorabilia dotted around as well.
P. K.

W. B.

G. P.

A. C.
Best local pub in Clapham/ Balham. Great beers and ambient. Independently run, it is one of the few authentic places in the area!
R. B.
