A lovely pub for kids, dogs, vegans and all! I absolutely enjoyed seeing many happy families here and the food was good. I would definitely like to return when I’m in the area again.

Very beautiful pub run by cool crew. We went with friends and our two dogs, so we had an amazing time with our roasts and drinks. We just missed riding the tiny train even if we're in our 40s 😁

Lovel pub, with covered outside seating. On Sunday they have a roast menu with good portions. There is also a mini railway for the young ones which starts at 2pm. The pub is quite large so there is always places available.

We went to the Holly Tree for Sunday lunch. Good food, good choices and plenty of it. Good selection of wines... we went for a Malbec which we really enjoyed. We had the option to sit in adult only section, which we liked as I wanted to catch up with a dear friend without kids! However there are areas for families and clearly a venue popular with children Something here for everyone!

Interesting bar & decor. Hear good reviews & thought I would check it out. Ordered a Big Tom as I didn't feel like alcohol, which took awhile to be served. I wished the bar staff had checked the glass I received as there were salt marks on it. The outline Google review on the Holly Tree puts it down to £, when it fact it's anything but. Also adding 10% services charge on all orders retrospectively weather it's food or not is cheeky ( .36p on my Big Tom). I would go back just to try the Sunday Roast.

Great food and nice atmosphere. The lunch menu had a real range of tasty and interesting food, including small plates that are quite generous. Plenty of shaded outdoor seating. Excellent service. The mini steam train opens at 2pm!

The beer garden here is huge and the food is fantastic. Only negative I would say is that sometimes service is quite slow, once you get your food it is very difficult to get another drink as no staff tend to come past. Only an issue with recent table service requirements. But it still doesn’t stop us from coming here, food quality makes up for it!

Very nice vibe, they've kept some of the Pub feel but modernised it. There is alot of seating inside and out, food and drink is nice but unfortunately the price is quite dear. If you're not looking to spend too much I would advice another pub, The golden fleece is a little cheaper and even cheaper than that there is 2 weatherspoons not too far, the Walnut Tree and The George.

Nice pub & staff BUT £5.40 for a small glass of white wine. Its Dames road Forest Gate, not the west end + a service charge when you have no choice but table service, wasn't asked if I wanted to pay it. So only stayed for the one & went to the pub on top of cann hall rd which beer garden is equally as nice & normal prices. Shame.

Great pub with lots of lovely different sections - cosy inside, light filled conservatory, outside covered booths and fantastic big garden with an ACTUAL TRAIN YOU CAN RIDE! Food is good, beer selection is good, and staff are great. Covid table service is so attentive and friendly - Don't mind paying service charge when you compare it to ordering on apps and waiting half an hour like lots of places. Lucky to have as our local :)

Just had a meal and few drinks with family and despite the food and setting being lovely, the train was a hit with the little ones, the service was abysmal! Every order of drinks took over 30mins to arrive and on one occasion when we asked where they were one particular member of staff said "only one member of staff on the bar" then proceeded to stand around not doing a lot. To summarise, if you want a pub with good food and drink choice but want to wait a long time to be served and receive what you ordered, this is the pub for you. But if you want good food, good drink choices and good service don't go here.

Lovely local pub near Wanstead flats. Went for a drink with my partner the first week of reopening and it was a really reassuringly good experience - all the staff were wearing masks and there’s loads of outdoor space including some nice booths. Would highly recommend!

Small menu but I absolute love the beef burger and chips - the burger is genuinely one of the best burgers I’ve had. The staff are consistently friendly, sometime sat outside can be a bit slow but it’s understandable in these strange times. We’ve come here 5 or 6 times on a Friday and had a great experience every time. The consistency and quality of food gets the Holly Tree 5 stars - it’s the best food pub in Forest Gate for sure.

First time I've ever been here and I will certainly go back. The prices are quite high but the burger I had was fantastic and I would eat it again plus it has tempted me to into wanting to try the other dishes. The staff are friendly and the beers weren't the run of the mill which was nice to try something new. There is a mini railway that runs around the somewhat spacious garden area though I believe this only runs at lunchtimes. Park across the road and Wanstead flats.

Large upmarket pub selling a selection of drinks including craft beers. I didn't eat during my visit but there is also a varied menu. There is also a large outdoor area with seating and a miniature railway which runs at certain times. Good atmosphere and friendly staff. My only slight criticism is that the prices seem steep for the area. £4.80 for a pint of Guinness and other beers in excess of £5.

Went here on a whim for lunch on Christmas Eve, despite being busy and having tables reserved they were able to accommodate us. The food portions were a generous size, the sausage and mash had three sausages, which was an instant win in my book. If I was to raise any complaint it would be that the food was too salty for my pallet. One suggestion I would have is that they could do with offering child portions of their dishes. They may have had a separate menu for this but I didn't see it. Overall a good selection of beers and good food means I'll be back, not to mention we haven't been on the train that runs in the garden yet, a guaranteed win with the kids in the summer.

Food was four or five stars. Service was always four stars when they were busy. Hats off to them. On a personal note, In the past, the chips were terrible, but they have improved. Recently though, even when it’s not busy, they have a habit of serving the food in instalments, which is a real shame, as some of their main dishes look and smell amazing, but delivering main course dishes at the same time as the dessert, is a little disappointing. This place is almost worth four or five stars, but on a basis comparative to their local rivals, they’re lucky they don’t get two stars.

Whilst I went alone, the place has briliant atmosphere for bringing children. Food came very quickly and was of high standard. I discovered how much I like pickles in burgers, who knew? A newly refurbished pub which has been very nicely done. A nice place to take children in the summer has a very nice garden area with a small railway which the children can take a ride on. Strange being in a pub with physical distancing but The Holly Tree is a lovely place; the staff are friendly and helpful and the beer choices are great (Gravity Well on tap!)! Spent New Year's Eve here too and had a fantastic time.

Fantastic staff, heated outside booths are perfect for meeting people outside your household. The only reason not to give 5 stars is I think the food doesn't really warrant the price.

Great refurb, friendly staff, lots of room, and the little train is fantastic for kids (or otherwise)! The only room for improvement would be the roasts - some parts were hot whilst others were cold and not great value for money given the price.

A lot of money has been spent on refurbishing this pub and it shows. Good beer and good food, though if you just want a sandwich you are out of luck. Mind you, I felt a bit out of place as I didn't have a beard and am not a hipster.

The food and staff were excellent, but the owner is a dreadful man - despite having been shown to our table by a member of staff, he came over and claimed he was sitting there and effectively accused us of lying about having booked the table. (“But there’s not reservation sign here for 2:30pm” “yes they removed it when they seated us” etc). This went on for about ten minutes. Anyway, big shame because apparently his intention was just to “ensure the place was being well managed”, but instead he just made two paying customers feel very unwelcome, which probably isn’t a very clever way to run a pub.

Pub shows sports with two areas and three screens to view and includes pay for view events, for example boxing. A very good local pub.
